Seasoned Entrepreneur And Health Visionary Who Redefined The Wellness Industry With Her Functional Superfood Nutrition Company With Lisa Odenweller, Founder & CEO Of Kroma Wellness
Seasoned entrepreneur and health visionary Lisa Odenweller has redefined the wellness industry over the last decade. Lisa is Founder and CEO of Kroma Wellness, (https://kromawellness.com/) a functional superfood nutrition company. Kroma and her earlier venture, Beaming Wellness, are considered two of the most successful cult brands in the history of the industry. Lisa is known for her ability to design innovative health food concepts and build robust ecosystems of influential investors and loyal customers. Lisa’s wellness endeavors are rooted in her passion for superfoods, which she began championing long before they were mainstream. Lisa entered the wellness space in 2011 with the founding of Beaming Wellness, an organic superfood café concept with locations throughout Southern California. The brand quickly attracted a cult following that established it as a trailblazer in the culinary and wellness industries. After exiting Beaming in 2018, Lisa began developing a larger-scale project with more ambitious reach: a direct-to-consumer superfood program offering functional, delicious products that simplify nutritional wellness. Out of this vision, Kroma Wellness was born. Lisa launched Kroma in July 2021 after conducting one of the most impressive capital raises in the history of the wellness industry. The brand’s early angel investors, assembled by Lisa during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic consisted of celebrities, entrepreneurs, and notable public figures. Today, Kroma is 90% funded by women. Kroma offers delicious, high-quality on-the-go foods and beverages that deliver maximum nutrition and require minimal preparation. Kroma’s menu of just-add-water bone and veggie broths, adaptogen superlattes, elixirs, snacks, and teas incorporate nutrient-dense superfoods and are known for their incredible flavor. The brand’s hero product is the 5 Day Whole Body Reset that is revolutionizing the way people think about cleansing and detoxing. Focusing on nourishment over starvation, the Reset allows users to customize the program according to their needs and goals. Since its launch, Kroma has experienced astronomical growth and has become a go-to health optimization tool among celebrities and health-minded individuals worldwide. Customer retention is extraordinarily high and projected revenues continue to climb year-to-year. Beyond her reputation for architecting transformative wellness concepts, Lisa’s ability to grow brands from capital raise to consumer zeitgeist has landed her on MindBodyGreen’s list of “100 Women to Watch in Wellness.” She has also been profiled in Forbes, Vogue, Glamour, The Skinny Confidential, and The Art of Being Well, among other top publications and podcasts. With uncommon energy, perseverance, and conviction, Lisa continues to grow Kroma alongside her daughter Lexi. She also tours the country as a keynote speaker and mentors other female entrepreneurs. Radiant Roots: A Founders Journey From Homeopathic Wisdom To Beauty Revolution With Sasha Plavsic, Founder of ILIA Beauty
SASHA PLAVSIC, FOUNDER, ILIA BEAUTY (https://iliabeauty.com/) Topics: clean beauty industry, growing and scaling a business, sustainable production, minimalist beauty Born in Vancouver and raised in a rural, ocean-side setting just outside the city, Sasha has always been close to nature. Her younger brother and now business partner, Zac, suffered from acute asthma and allergies as a young child. Her mother, a true pioneer in health and wellness at that time, sought out homeopathic remedies to help heal her son. This included co-founding an organic food co-op with several families in the area, as organic food did not yet exist in the grocery stores. Through trial and error, Zac was healed primarily through diet, and went on to compete in sailing in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. This was an amazing accomplishment, especially after the doctors had predicted he would never be able to play sports. Sasha’s interests fell into design, studying Typography in London and New York. She found herself in Los Angeles in 2006 and spent several years working as a branding executive within the fashion and beauty industries. After moving home to Vancouver for a brief sabbatical, her mother encouraged her to read the ingredient list on her favorite lip balm. Sasha was shocked to discover many of the ingredients were not safe, and it’s something she used daily. The challenge was set –recreate her favorite lip balm so that it would be safe, effective and natural. And so the story of ILIA begins.

On Burnout, Eco-Inclusivity, Purpose, and Holistic Beauty with Lesley Thornton, Founder of KLUR.
Lesley Thornton is the founder of Klur - a holistic, purpose-driven, eco-inclusive, botanical skincare line. Before founding Klur, Lesley made her way across the beauty industry spectrum, beginning at Estee’ Lauder as a beauty trainer. She then transitioned to working as a freelance makeup artist specializing in editorial and advertising. From there Thornton was cast as an on-air beauty expert for the TLC network. After a decade in the beauty industry, she realized that there was little to no representation for people of color in the clean beauty space. In 2010 she obtained her esthetician’s license and started her own private practice. After years in the industry, she was equally frustrated by the harmful but hard-working conventional beauty products, but also the lack of rigorous R&D and science to back up green beauty products. She realized that the real issue lay in the lack of consideration for science and data, prioritization of Eurocentric beauty, and absence of education available to most consumers. So, she quietly built Klur, from top to bottom, with no team or funding, relying on her own relentless desire to build responsible products that deliver consistent results through elegant and luxurious formulations. Klur is a skin wellness brand cultivated to reflect the values of clean, ethical, and inclusive beauty. Based in Los Angeles Klur integrates the principles of high-performance technology and botanical sciences to create the most efficient, effective and eco-conscious line possible. Klur formulas are made by implementing low impact practices, advanced green chemistry, and are comprised of 100% biodegradable ingredients; as well as bio-identical and lab-derived materials when necessary to advocate for the preservation of the natural environment. Klur passionately and sustainably manufactures their entire range of goods in the United States, carefully choosing every component of their product offerings with significant consideration toward post-consumer recycled, and biodegradable materials which resonates greatly with their eco-conscious customers.

From Selling at the Farmer's Market to Recipient of “Best New Beverage,” this Shark Tank Entrepreneur is Pioneering the Healthy Soda Space with Allison Ellsworth, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer of Poppi
Allison Ellsworth is the Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer of poppi, a modern, fun(ctional) prebiotic soda designed for the next generation. Poppi was born from Allison’s relentless pursuit to build the perfect healthy soda — one with full flavor, real digestive health functionality, and clean ingredients that are good for you. In 2015, she started having a variety of health problems and discovered that Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) could reset and naturally detox her body, improving everything from her gut health and immunity to refining her complexion. She started drinking ACV every day, and within two weeks, all of her symptoms subsided. Since drinking ACV alone had a less appealing taste, Allison went to her kitchen and began experimenting, working around the clock to create a better tasting ACV beverage made with real fruit juice. The result was poppi, which first launched in 2017 and was later re-branded in Spring 2020. Allison is widely recognized as a pioneer in beverage product development, and she is the recipient of the prestigious “Best New Beverage” Award from the publishers of BevNet (2016). After gaining early traction at local Farmer’s Market, Allison and her husband Stephen took their vision to the next level and pitched their beverage on ABC’s Shark Tank. The pair secured a 6-figure investment from Rohan Oza and have since received additional investment and guidance from Rohan’s CAVU Venture Partners. I was blown away by the success of Poppi after hearing their numbers and have so much respect for how Allison started this company. I hope you find the inspiration you need in this chat; now let’s get on over to my conversation with Allison.

The founders have created a patented cold-process technique to create their plant-based products, skipping the traditional heat-based production, which can lessen the potency of seed oils. As Act+Acre products continue to evolve and expand, the potency of products and scalp-first approach will stay a priority. Helen Reavey knows a thing or two about the link between scalp health and hair vitality. As a veteran of hairstylist Sam McKnight’s backstage team and with over 15 years as the go-to stylist for the world’s leading fashion brands, celebrities, and media outlets, Helen wanted to create a new playbook for hair wellness. Having worked worldwide on all races, genders, nationalities, the one thing that Helen noted as being common across the board was poor scalp health. Her curiosity resulted in a realization that the industry was serving up a selection of sub-par products that do not serve to nourish, balance and stimulate the scalp… enter Act+Acre I hope you enjoy!

Hello my beautiful Woman Inc. listeners! My guest this week is Cheryl Burke, an emmy-nominated, professional dancer with twenty-five years of dancing experience and several championship titles under her belt. You may know her through the hit ABC tv show, Dancing with the Stars. What I loved about my conversation with Cheryl is how open she is about her story. We chat about being in the public eye, morning routines, mental health, and more. I hope you listen to this episode and leave knowing that everyone has a story to tell and many people we encounter in our day or our week are going through something or have gone through something that we know nothing of. It’s so important to be gentle on people and to extend as much kindness as possible. We are all a work in progress— even people on tv or on Instagram. I am so grateful to Cheryl for her vulnerability in this episode and for keeping it so real. Now, let’s get over to my conversation with Cheryl.
On Holding the Line, Knowing your Worth, and Advocating for Mothers with Former Uber Exec. and Current COO of Pietra, Tala Akhavan
On this week’s episode of Woman Inc., I sat down with Tala Akhavan, COO of Pietra, a platform that makes it possible to launch the brand you've always dreamt of. Tala, a former Uber executive, joined the creator economy platform with the mission to democratize access for female entrepreneurship via the platform’s capabilities. As a first time mother, Tala talked about the struggle of wanting to give her all to motherhood as well as her professional trajectory. While giving birth in the height of the pandemic, she made the uncharacteristic choice to not return to her secure job at Uber when her maternity leave ended. Leaving to become a full-time, stay-at-home mom, Tala experienced first hand that current workplace models and policies are not structured to support women who seek fulfillment in both areas. There has been a spike in female entrepreneurship coming out of the pandemic, but at present, there is little transparency across markets to launch a product in a financially feasible and time efficient manner. Tala discusses her role as a COO who followers a value-first philosophy and how she thinks through major decisions. After the recording stopped, Tala told me something that I believe is incredibly powerful. She told me that when she was offered the role at Pietra, she was actually offered the same role at a different company for double the salary. She turned it down because they weren’t as accommodating to her musts of being able to be a present mom. I share this, with her blessing, because I believe that is the definition of being in your worth, and as Tala mentions, holding the line. Make sure to tune in to hear the full story and subscribe to Woman Inc. so that you never miss an episode. Now, let's get over to my conversation with Tala. By: Jenna Todey, Host of Woman Inc.

Some call her the "teen whisperer" and the "queen of viral apps." She got this nickname because as a serial entrepreneur she has reached over 1 billion people with her mobile apps -- it's an incredible accomplishment which not many (esp. female founders of color) have accomplished. She is an open book, has so much wisdom to share, and is such an inspiration for young women everywhere. Hooked’s investors include Ashton Kutcher, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Joe Montana, and more. She is a woman who I am so proud to have on the show and who’s story I believe will absolutely inspire you to bet on yourself. Now, let’s get over to my conversation with Prerna.

My guest this week is wellness guru and New York Times bestselling author, Dr. Kellyann Petrucci, Dr. Kellyann is a naturopathic physician and certified nutrition consultant with over 20 years of clinical experience. She has been a concierge doctor for celebrities in New York and Los Angeles and is an expert in gut-health and natural anti-aging. Hailed for the creation of the bone broth revolution, Dr. Kellyann’s innovative programs have brought intermittent fasting (or mini-fasting as she calls it) to the masses by incorporating the secret weapon of bone broth to a balanced diet. The brilliance of using bone broth, along with its bounty of benefits, when fasting has made it an accessible health and weight loss tool for countless people. Dr. Kellyann came to realize the ancient power of collagen and bone broth to heal the gut and slow aging while studying biological medicine at the Marion Institute's Paracelsus Clinic in Switzerland. By focusing her practice on a lifestyle that reverses inflammation, Dr. Kellyann has helped thousands of individuals reduce belly fat and improve gut health to look and feel their best. The Woman who Created one of the Largest Food Communities on the Internet, with Julie Resnick, Co-Founder of The Feedfeed.
Hello beautiful Woman Inc. listeners! My guest this week is Julie Resnick, co-founder of The Feedfeed, a food & lifestyle media company. Julie started Feedfeed on Instagram, where she began posting pictures of her own food which her Co-Founder and husband, Dan, photographed. She then asked others to also share what they were making by tagging their images with #feedfeed. Since then, the company has become the largest crowd sourced food publication, community, and the source for what to cook, bake, eat and drink in today’s world across social media and the web. Feedfeed comes to life for its community through experiences it hosts all over the world, and in particular out of its Brooklyn and Los Angeles test kitchens, as well as virtual events and Instagram lives. Ep 17The Founder who Created a Consumer-Obsessed Snack Company with Ingredients you can Actually Pronounce with Beth Porter, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Sweet Nothings.
Hello beautiful Woman Inc. Listeners! My guest this week is Beth Porter, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Sweet Nothings, a plant-based, organic, no sugar added delicious snack. As a busy entrepreneur and parent, Beth was always looking for convenient snacks that were healthy, yet still delicious. Fruit and nuts are the obvious choice for health and convenience, but they get boring day after day. I can attest— I have bags in my kitchen that I haven’t opened for a little longer than I’m willing to admit in this moment. Smoothies were a tasty and popular option with her family, but the prep, mess and cleanup were far from convenient. There might be nothing I hate more than cleaning a blender. I will buy a $20 smoothie before I clean I blender, but that might be a bigger problem for another time. She started experimenting with how to make fruits, nuts, and seeds in a new format— a smoothie-like blend, frozen in a cup for later, while maintaining a texture that felt indulgent like ice cream. After mastering the product at home, she brought the product to her community and knew then that she needed to share it with the world. Her passion and care for the product she has created is so evident in this episode which is generally a theme amongst the most successful entrepreneurs I interview. If you haven’t tried Sweet Nothings I am completely obsessed. Beth brings so much knowledge and inspiration to this episode and I can’t wait for you guys to hear. Now, let’s get over to my conversation with Beth.

Hello my beautiful woman inc listeners. We are switching it up with a Wednesday episode and have some very exciting things happening on the Woman Inc. front that I can’t wait to share with you. Until then, I am beyond excited to introduce today’s guest. In this week’s episode I had the honor of speaking with Sunaina Sinha, one of the most powerful woman in finance, about how she built her empire. Only 5% of private equity leaders are women. Sunaina has managed to become a private equity star by founding Cebile Capital, a leading placement agent and secondary market advisor that oversees billions of dollars in deals per year. Moving to different countries growing up is what helped Sunaina build a thick skin every time she was the only woman in the room. Using different tactics to fit into a heavily male dominated industry, Sunaina has owned and managed her firm for over 10 years now. In addition, Cebile Capital recently got acquired by a major public company. Sunaina obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Management Science and Engineering, as well as a Masters of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, both from Stanford University. She then went on to receive her MBA from Harvard Business School. I could spend probably an hour just listing Sunaina’s accomplishments, but I think my favorite part of the episode is when she talk about how she stays centered and grounded. I hope you enjoy, and now, let’s get over to my conversation with Sunaina.
