Hello everyone! I hope you had a fantastic festive period and feel energized to tackle 2024. A massive thank you to everyone who has followed and listened in 2023. One stat (which I didn't mention in the podcast) which surprised me was on my Spotify Podcaster's Wrapped, which said I had 91% new listeners in 2023. This shows we are going in the right direction. I share some facts and figures from 2023 and thank everyone who has followed.For 2024, I want to achieve some significant goals with the podcast, as well as other content and travel. Hello, and welcome to the 42nd episode of my trip! Today's episode is the 19th of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast in July. This is the seventh and last episode of the USA road trip as we enter the final state of Washington. We left Ocean City and went to Olympic Park before heading to Port Townsend. Then, we jump on the ferry across the mainland to head towards Bellingham before crossing the border into Vancouver and Canada. We had an unsavoury last night in the USA, forcing us to leave early, but it felt right.After 14,000+ miles (23,000+ km), we have our last night on Jericho Beach in Kitsilano in Vancouver. A full circle, and what a road trip!! Hello, and welcome to the 41st episode of my trip! Today's episode is the 18th of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast in July. This is the sixth episode of the USA road trip as we leave Harris Beach and go through Oregon. Highway 101 continues to impress with its stunning views from viewpoints off the side of the road. Then we made our way to Cannon Beach, one of the must-see places on the trip, and it turned into one of the trip's highlights! I just loved the place! When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast in July. This is the fifth episode of the USA road trip as we leave Christmas Valley and head west towards the coast. We get derailed by a forest fire on our journey in this and suffer our first flat tyre of the road trip at 13,000 miles in! Hello and welcome to the 39th episode of my trip! Today's episode is the 16th one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast in July. This is the fourth episode of the USA road trip as we make our way through South Dakota, Wyoming and Idaho. We had some recommendations to visit Deadwood and Devil's Tower on our way to Yellowstone so we did! We approached Yellowstone from the East Entrance and stayed at a very rustic campsite near the gate. I describe our magical two days through Yellowstone before finishing the episode in the desert in Oregon at Christmas Valley. Hello and welcome to the 37th episode of my trip! Today's episode is the 14th one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast in July.This is the second episode of the USA road trip as we enter some new states like Rhode Island and Connecticut as well as going to one of my previous states, New York. We planned a day trip to Providence which had an awesome historic feel to it like Boston. Then we changed our minds on this roadtrip to go to New York City, we just couldn't resist. So we decided to stay in Darien in CT then train it in to Grand Central Station for both days. Near the top of our list for this trip was going to Bethal Woods to see the farm and museum for the Woodstock Festival, I loved it! This is the final episode of the Canadian road trip as we wrap up Nova Scotia by checking out the bustling city of Halifax before heading down to Lunenberg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Peggy's Cover sandwiched between them. Hello and welcome to the 34th episode of my trip! Today's episode is the eleventh one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast in July. In this episode, we complete one of our main aims of this road trip which was to check out Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. Hello and welcome to the 33rd episode of my trip! Today's episode is the tenth one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast in July. In this episode, I am covering our amazing time on Prince Edward Island which is a province on an island. We kick off this episode with one of the best buys of all time, picking up some spuds for $5 from a local farm. Then we checked out the capital Charlottetown as we started to see those colourful houses. Naturally, we strayed over to a couple of National and Provincial Parks. Hello and welcome to the 32nd episode of my trip! Today's episode is the ninth one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast in July. In this episode, I am covering our time in Toronto checking out the CBD, Kensington Market area as well as Little Italy. I was lucky enough to get a tour around Erin Hyne's (host of the Curious Tourism Responsible Travel Podcast + previous guest) local area as she took us to three cafes as well as gave us a guided tour of the streets around Kensington Market. We met in person for the first time and it was great to chat about travel, life and podcasting. In the midst of Toronto was some drama with our Airbnb (more in the episode) and we thank Madz for letting us stay in her flat to get some home living again. A lot of walking, drinking coffee, hanging out with my friend Tom and checking out the city.The last two days were driving days as we made our way to Prince Edward Island but on the way, I got to meet Ted Cragg who is another travel podcast and previous guest on the episode. Hello and welcome to the 31st episode of my trip! Today's episode is the eighth one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the East Coast. In this episode, I am covering our time in Montreal + Niagara Falls. It was great to get some apartment living in as we stayed at a mutual friend's apartment in Montreal. We checked out all the main sites in Montreal including Mile End, The Old Town, Waterfront and Mont Royal Park. I finish the episode with an awesome day out at Niagara Falls with my friend Tom from Norwich who flew over to Canada for a wedding and holiday. This wasn't the initial plan but we changed our minds over coffee due to the ridiculous prices of staying in Canadian cities on the weekend. It turned out great however as I describe the amazing La Mauricie National Park, they had the best facilities for a campsite to date! Then we marvelled in the Old Town of Quebec City as we wandered around the cobbled streets and checked out the huge Fairmont Hotel on the hill overlooking the city. Hello and welcome to the 29th episode of my trip! Today's episode is the sixth one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the east coast. In this episode, I am covering our trip from Thunder Bay to Ottawa via Pukaskwa National Park. We had our first truck stop night (which was free) and now we are hooked so you get to hear about that experience as well as me getting stung by a wasp for the first time. Then we had a dreamy two nights in Pukaskwa National Park which ticked every box we were looking for in terms of nature and campsites. We hit a milestone by reaching the halfway point on the Canadian Highway 1 (a great achievement for us!). Then we finish this episode with Ottawa which is the beginning of the city break phase as we go into Ontario and Quebec. Hello and welcome to the 28th episode of my trip! Today's episode is the fifth one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, we always intended to return to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the east coast. In this episode, I am covering our trip from Regina to Riding National Park in Manitoba all the way to Thunder Bay in Ontario. A serious amount of ground is covered in this one as we smash past 1000 km. Riding National Park was a little dream of a place by Clear Lake, a must-visit in Manitoba. We then headed for our first big city break in Winnipeg where we rented out an Airbnb to have a day of doing nothing as well as discovering the city on either side of that break. We survived the awful roads of Winnipeg as we headed out East towards Thunder Bay via Kenora which was a 700 km day! A lot of driving in this one with great views. Hello and welcome to the 27th episode of my trip! Today's episode is the fourth one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. When leaving to backpack the world this year, our intention was always to come back to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the east coast. In this episode, I am covering our trip from Canmore to Calgary for our first visit to a big city. Of course, we had to stop off in Canmore as it is one of my favourite places on Earth! Then we make our way to Grasslands National Park in Saskatchewan whilst massacring crickets and moths along the way. We stop off in Medicine Hat too for a coffee. To finish the episode we finish with another city in Regina for a whistlestop tour of this small city. Hello and welcome to the 26th episode of my trip! Today's episode is the third one of our road trip across Canada and the USA. Our intention when leaving to backpack the world this year was always to come back to our campervan in Vancouver and drive to the east coast. In this episode I am covering our trip from Vancouver to Penticton and then onto Nelson before hitting Two Jacks Lake in The Rockies. We learnt a lot in these five days such as the heat making our van very sweaty to sleep in, how amazing the Naramata wine region is and why we haven't done it before! Nelson was a cute little town on our way to The Rockies and we found shade and coolness, sigh! We also checked out Canada's smallest city! Hello and welcome to number 117! This week I am joined by Nina and Q, also known as Travelling By Pedalling and these guys have just finished a two-year bikepacking trip! Today we talk about the lead-up to them quitting their jobs in the healthcare sector which took a toll on them during COVID. We then talk through their route from Holland to Iran. Not all plain sailing though as Nina broke her wrist in Austria so they had to postpone the trip during the winter. However, they were back on the road in the Spring and we talk through right up to Iran. Unfortunately, we didn't get time to dig into much of the South East Asia portion of their trip however, there is some excellent chat in there still. We finish in Japan as they took a break from biking due to a few more accidents and instead, they went on a 1000km in Japan. Hello and welcome to number 115! This week I am joined by Tor Midtboe who I met in Nepal when doing the Langtang Valley Trek. I first spotted Tor legging it past me as I was crawling up the trail toward Langtang Village then I managed to catch him in Kyanjin Gumpa. We met at a cafe and got chatting about travelling then five hours later we wandered back to our guesthouse. What really intrigued me was that Tor was trail-running the Langtang trek and then hiking back to Kathmandu afterwards. I wanted to hear firstly how was it combining both travel and trail-running and secondly in altitude like Nepal.A month later, we caught up on Zoom for this interview where we discuss his 7-month backpacking adventure in Asia then we delve into the trail-running portion of that trip. We talk about racing in Thailand, an amazing trail in Taiwan and of course, our time in Nepal in Langtang. Frank Paradis returns for another bumper episode this week and we are talking about his three-month trip hitchhiking across the Congo River Basin in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Frank's plan was to enter overland from Angola and make it across to Uganda via the DRC jungle in the southwest to the northeast. Frank wanted to avoid planes and see as much on the ground as possible and trust me, this episode has some epic stories.Frank talks us through some of his highs and lows such as running into rebels with machine guns, contracting Malaria with an almost devastating outcome, the amazing Congolese people who really helped him on his way, seeing the Bonobos in the wild whilst 'volunteering', having to wade through the jungle water in barefoot and so many more! Hello and welcome to the 20th episode of my trip! In today's episode, I will be covering my 9-day trek in Langtang Valley, Nepal. As of April 1st, 2023, the Nepalese government decided to pass a new law about needing a guide when trekking in Nepal so I cover that scenario from what I have seen on the ground and heard from other trekkers. I did end up having a guide so I cover the cost of the whole 9 days of the trek including transport, guide fees, food, water, accommodation and everything else in between!This was an amazing experience in the Himalayas but it came with some lessons learnt and an unfortunate story attached.
