Elise also hosts the podcast Pulling the Thread. If you are into spirituality at all and are interested in hearing from spiritual elders and wise thinkers those are some really great conversations over there! Elise has co-written/ghost written 12 other books. In this conversation, we focus on raising emotionally healthy boys. This is hard to do because it’s a cultural thing not just something that happens inside our own homes! We talk about envy, something women tend to struggle with. Sarah Edmondson is on the podcast today! And wow, she has a story! She is a former member of NXIVM. She ended up leaving the group and came forward about things that were happening behind the scenes there. Sarah’s full story as a whistleblower is featured in the CBC podcast “Uncover: Escaping NXIVM” (downloaded over 25 million times) and “The Vow”, the critically acclaimed HBO documentary series on NXIVM. In 2019, Sarah published Scarred: The True Story of How I Escaped NXIVM, the Cult that Bound My Life, with Kristine Gasbarre. In this tell-all memoir, she shares her story from the moment she takes her first seminar to her harrowing fight to get out of NXIVM, collaborate with the FBI, help others, and heal. She has a podcast called “A Little Bit Culty” where she helps people understand, heal from, and avoid abusive situations, one little red flag at a time. Dr. Mariel Buqué is an Afro-Dominican psychologist. She received her doctorate in counseling psychology from Columbia University, where she also trained as a fellow in holistic mental health. She is a world-renowned intergenerational trauma expert and the author of the book Break the Cycle: A Guide to Healing Intergenerational Trauma. Her clinical framework is holistic and infuses ancient and indigenous healing practices into a modern, comprehensive therapeutic approach. She has utilized her training in holistic care to integrate holistic practices, like sound bath meditation and breathwork, into therapy, which has helped to deepen trauma healing for an entire generation of clients. She additionally provides healing workshops to Fortune 100 companies including Google, Capital One, and Meta and lectures within the psychology department at Columbia University. Dr. Buqué is widely sought out for her clinical expertise and trauma approach and has been featured on major media outlets including The Today Show, Good Morning America, and ABC News. She has been named as a School of Greatness’s 100 Greatest People Doing Good in 2022 and an inaugural Verywell Mind 25 Mental Health Champion. We get into so much in this episode! Episode 159: Dr. Cara Goodwin – When Gentle Parenting Doesn’t Work and How to Help an Anxious Kid
There was so much in this episode that I needed to hear and I hope that you all find the value in it, too! Dr. Cara Goodwin is a child psychologist. She runs the nonprofit Instagram account called the Parenting Translator. She also has a podcast and a substack page for that where she shares research. She translates recent scientific research into information that parents can actually use. This concept is SO cool because you know that all that she is sharing is ad-free and simply her dissection of the research. Cara is doing really great work over there! Cara is also the mom of four so she understands what it’s like implementing this research first hand with her own kids. We had a great conversation in this episode about just that – when gentle parenting and other parenting techniques simply don’t work with your kids! I loved talking about that because we all have great intentions to implement these strategies but each of our kids are unique and need something different. We also talked about how to help your anxious child, what anxiety looks like in children, school avoidance, and more! Episode 156: Dr. Jenny Nuccio – Building a Meaningful Life; Let it Be Wild
Dr. Jenny Nuccio is the founder and CEO of Imani Collective which exists to empower artisans through dignified work, opportunity, and community. She tells us all about that in this episode! Jenny went on a short-term mission trip when she was 18 and identified some problems with that model and ended up moving to Kenya and has lived there for years now!
