Ep 104#104: Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone, with Stacy Tuschl
Stacy Tuschl is a speaker, business coach, and the owner of The Academy of Performing Arts in Wisconsin. She is the author of the book "Is Your Business Worth Saving?" where she reveals proven strategies for pulling entrepreneurs out of a rut and launching them toward business success. We all deal with self-doubt, or the imposter syndrome. You know the feeling — why would anyone listen to me? Often when I'm talking with coaching clients or friends that are starting in business, this comes up, and I deal with it myself. People always think I'm so confident and these questions don't' go through my mind. But believe me, oh my goodness, I can't tell you enough how often I think these same things over and over again. Every time I achieve something, another amazing opportunity comes my way but I get nervous about what will people think. So, today we're going to be talking about getting out of your comfort zone to push the imposter syndrome aside. Some highlights include: My first business ever was starting a dance studio, and I was incredibly nervous about what people would say, especially because I had only been a dancer for three years when I started to teach it. I sucked it up, and now that business grosses over a million dollars a year. (minute 1:00) I was also really nervous about writing my book. I was sure my friends and family would say"who is she to write a book?" In reality, they were really supportive, and now I'm an international bestseller. (minute 2:00) "Am I really worth this?" The more you raise your rates, the better clientele you get to work with. So, as much as you think you aren't worth the higher price — you are. (minute 3:00) It is really important to understand the value of hiring experts, like coaches, copywriters, and designers. I used to think that I could never spend $500/month on a coach. I thought that I had too much to invest in, and I just couldn't afford one. But what I realized — and thankfully at a young age — was I can't afford not to have a coach. At minute 2:00, Eric talks about the challenges of starting his solar energy business and why he ultimately pulled the plug on it. "I've gone through a lot of struggle in my life." At minute 7:00, Eric talks about why going through struggles has made him a better, stronger entrepreneur. You can do it, but you shouldn't. At minute 9:00, Eric talks about learning that he needs to delegate things away after learning his limitations. There's a reason we talk about work-life balance. At minute 12:00, Eric talks about why we have to look at work-life balance from a distance to truly see it in action. "I love talking to people." At minute 22:00, Eric talks about what he loves about his business right now as well as entrepreneurship in general. Ep 102#102: Eat the Banana!, with Derek Deprey
Derek Deprey delved into the world of personal growth and development shortly after becoming a General Manager for the Wisconsin Athletic Club. He couldn't get enough of what he was studying, learning and applying, so much so that he created his own business, Move Results, as an avenue to engage and impact others through motivational speaking and leadership skill-building facilitation. He feels that the best business to start is one that you need yourself. He just knew it was right because, still to this day, he goes to bed and wakes up every morning excited to pursue his business. It truly blends his day job and his dream job. His diverse career endeavors also include Wisconsin Lutheran College and the John Maxwell Team. With the former, he's an Adjunct Professor of Adult and Graduate Studies as well as an active member of the Alumni Board. With the latter, he partnered with the esteemed John Maxwell Team after years of being inspired by him. He personally uses his teachings to enhance my productivity, development and decision-making skills. Saying that he like to keep himself involved and professionally connected is an understatement. In this episode, Derek and Stacy discuss what he has been able to do while running his own business at the same time as having a more traditional job. Some highlights include: Do you have to completely quit your 9-to-5 job to pursue your own business? At minute 1:00, Derek talks about how he's been able to do both. Plan the FEW. At minute 3:00, Derek talks about why it's so important to have a plan when it comes to food, exercise, and water. Find your foundation. At minute 8:00, Derek talks about why he doesn't think work-life balance exists, but work-life fusion does. Eat the banana! At minute 9:00, Derek talks about why he believes you should start out your day by doing something you love, not something you hate. You can truly impact lives. At minute 16:00, Derek talks about what he loves about being an entrepreneur. I'm so excited for today's episode because it has been a little over a week and half since my book launched and I want to share a little bit of the behind the scenes with you. It did phenomenally well — better than I could have ever imagined. With over 12,200 downloads, we hit #1 in several categories. And not just in the US but in other countries as well which makes the book a #1 international bestseller. It feels so good to be on the other side of my first book launch, let me tell you. In today's episode, I'm going to dive into this book launch. Some highlights include: If you want your book to be a bestseller, you need to get ratings and reviews of your book. At minute 3:00, I talk about how I did this with my book. In June, I went to a conference and met someone from a company called Epic Launch. At minute 5:00, I talk about why I hired them to help me get my book launched. I'm not a writer or a designer, and I knew I needed help with my book. I hired what is called a collaborative writer, and at minute 6:00, I talk about how Amy Anderson, my writer, was able to get a lot out of me and help me create my book. I also talk about working with Erica Jennings, my designer. At minute 8:00, I talk about the very specific launch strategy that got my book to become a #1 international bestseller. This segment includes an explanation as to why I made my book free when it first launched. Resources: Ask me a question! Join our Level Up Community! Ep 98#98: How to Build Personal Relationships, with Stacy Tuschl
It has been a crazy week. My book launched on Tuesday, and I can't wait to share more results with you next week. Something that has played a huge role in my book launch is the relationships that I have built, so today we are going to talk about building relationships. Some highlights include: When my book launched, I created a list of over 100 people that I personally reached out to and asked for their support. I didn't send them a mass email. I sent them each a real email directly from me. At minute 1:00, I talk about why this is a good strategy. A way to save time with your email is what Gmail calls "canned responses." At minute 3:00, I explain exactly what these are and what you should do to utilize them to their fullest potential. When I hang up from a call with a potential coaching client, I immediately send them a follow-up email. This email contains a canned response with details that I send to every potential client, but I include specific things from our call to make this much more personal. (minute 5:00) Don't think that I am anti-email autoresponder. You absolutely have to have one. I send out something to my list every week and whenever I have something that I need my full list to know about. Take my book launch for example. At minute 7:00, I talk about how to use this kind of software effectively. Facebook has been one of my top sources for networking. At minute 8:00, I share several tips for how to use Facebook to build relationships. Resources: Ask me a question! Join our Level Up Community! Ep 95#95: How to Build Your Credibility, with Stacy Tuschl
Today we're going to be talking about credibility. Someone recently asked me whether or not they need to have a book published before they will have the opportunity to get on stage. This person doesn't necessarily want to be a speaker, but they do want to be seen as an expert in their industry. So, today we are going to cover the different levels of credibility, what you need to do before you get started, and then how to make sure you don't get overlooked. Some highlights include: We all need credibility, but it comes in different forms. For example, being an author is different from being a bestselling author. And they're both different from being a New York Times bestselling author. (minute 1:00) Your experience is what will build your credibility. At minute 2:00, I discuss how I got people to be on my podcast as well as how I've been able to make appearances on some high profile podcasts. Get ready to hear no from a lot of people. At minute 3:00, I talk about why 100 rejections for every acceptance is not a bad ratio at all. Change the story you tell about yourself. At minute 5:00, I talk about why the story that I was sharing to promote myself just didn't make an impact on other people and how I've changed it so people are always wowed. So, do you need to write a book to get speaking gigs? At minute 7:00, I answer this question. Resources: Ask me a question! She is the author of the book "Is Your Business Worth Saving?" where she reveals proven strategies for pulling entrepreneurs out of a rut and launching them toward business success. In this episode, we are going to talk about acquiring new customers and the value that is in your current customer base. It is so much more expensive to acquire a brand new customer than it is to keep our current customers happy. It is really easy to get caught up in the numbers game. We want more, more, more. And as we are so focused on trying to get more customers, we aren't keeping an eye on our current customers. So, let's talk about how do we keep our current customers happy and staying with us. Some highlights include: Are you delivering the high-quality product, program, or service? You need to think about what you advertised and what they received. (minute 2:00) A good thing you can do to attract customers is throw events. However, you should never exclude current customers from these events. (minute 3:00) Another way to really keep your customers happy is to give attention they weren't expecting. Try sending personal emails or phone calls or even welcome gifts. You should also try giving your customers unexpected free bonuses. (minute 5:00) What else can you try? I recommend paying attention to products and services that you use. Who is over delivering? Who is under delivering? (minute 7:00) Resources: Ask me a question! Ep 74#74: My Personal Story, with Stacy Tuschl
Last Friday I talked about the importance of sharing your story and it occurred to me some of you might not know my story or my background. I interview guest experts every Monday and Wednesday and you get to hear their stories but I don't really get the chance to share mine and today I want to share with you how I got started on this entrepreneurial journey. Some highlights include: I was definitely the bossy kid growing up. I always had to be in charge, it was my way or the highway. At minute 0:00, I talk about my early years. When I joined a new high school, I needed to make friends. I decided to join the dance team, and I absolutely fell in love with it. After four years, I knew I didn't want my dance career to be over, but I knew that I wasn't going to be a professional dancer, so I decided to start a middle school dance team in my parents' backyard. (minute 1:00) Three years later I had 100 dancers coming to me every Sunday to be on the dance team. Sunday was my only free day to offer it because I was a full-time college student and had a job bartending in the evenings. I was really busy to say the least and the parents of the dancers knew this and came up to me at year three and said we think you should be charging us. I had no idea what to charge and I had a mom say how about $30/month. All of a sudden I was bringing in $3000/month. (minute 3:00) I immediately found a space that was $1500/month and assumed that was more than enough to cover it, not realizing with a building there are bills, heat, water, phone, internet, property taxes and guess what, it adds up, and it added up to more than $3k and I knew I had to do something if I wanted to save this business. Immediately after I heard about a business conference for dance studio owners for $1000, and my mom and I attended it together. I learned incredible lessons there that changed my life. (minute 6:00) One of the major life lessons I learned was to not put all my eggs in one basket. So, at minute 7:00, I talk all about how I've diversified my income while growing my dance business. Ep 71#71: I Want to Interview You, with Stacy Tuschl
I recently got back from Podcast Movement in Chicago, and I would love to share a little bit about it and my biggest takeaways from the event as well as something that is going to involve you coming on the Business Rescue Road Map! I don't remember exactly how I found out about Podcast Movement, but when I saw that it had speakers like Pat Flynn and John Lee Dumas, my interest was definitely sparked. The event was around $500 and the cool thing about it was it had a bunch of different rooms, maybe eight or so different presentations going on from leading industry experts. What I really liked about it was they had different tracks that you could follow. There was a marketing track, a monetization track, one for the technical side, content, and so on. I stuck with a lot of the marketing and monetization mainly because that is my strong suit and what I enjoy doing. Overall it was a fabulous event and I will be adding this to my annual conferences. Next year it will be in Anaheim California in August. For me, The connections alone that I was able to make were so critical. Whether it was getting people on my show, or others inviting me to be a guest on theirs, was well worth the ticket. Here's some of what I learned: One of the things we learned about was why it's so important to share your story with your listeners. Listeners resonate with stories, so, in one of my future solocasts, I'm going to be sharing my story with you. Even if you have heard it before, I am going to go into detail of the ups and downs of running my own business and how I have gotten to this point in my life. (minute 2:00) Another thing I learned about was getting my community more involved. One of my biggest struggles for me as a podcaster is there is no interaction in the moment, unlike Periscope and Facebook live. One of the suggestions I received at Podcast Movement was to get listeners to ask questions by recording themselves and they can appear on the show. When I announced this in my private facebook community, I immediately got a great question from Celeste that I will be featuring in a show in a few weeks. (minute 3:00) I also learned about interviewing listeners. You have your own stories, and I'd love to talk to you about them. If you're interested, please let me know via the link in the resources section. (minute 7:00) Resources: Ask me a question! In today's episode, we're going to talk about when to drop a social media platform. As we all know, there are just so many different social media platforms out there, and that can be incredibly overwhelming. The experts always say to master one or two platforms before adding more, but that's often easier said than done because the pressure is so great to be everywhere. Some highlights include: Sometimes a social media platform isn't worth being on, and sometimes a big platform can take a nosedive. You need to know when to drop a platform so that you're not wasting money. (minute 1:00) Everybody always asks me why I'm still on Periscope, which many see as a dying platform. So why am I there? I don't care if a platform is dying because you can still use dying platforms to grow your email list. (minute 2:00) Everything you do has to have a return on investment, and you have to be tracking it. Don't just listen to what the gurus are saying. If it's working, keep using it. In today's episode, I'm going to be talking all about how to charge what you're worth. Of course, it's really easy for me to tell you to just raise your prices, and yes, I still get nervous when I raise mine. But it's absolutely a necessity in your business to charge what you're worth. Some highlights include: Pricing yourself too low can cost you your business. If you're on the low end, people will question if the quality is really there. (minute 0:00) Higher prices equal less work. When you charge higher prices, you don't as need as many customers to bring in the same income, and that's a great benefit for your customers. (minute 2:00) Your pricing says something about you. You need to be very careful when you're choosing your pricing because you could be turning away the big clients that are willing to pay a lot more for your services. (minute 3:00) Just go try it. You are worth every penny, and you'll never know if your prices are high enough unless you just raise them. (minute 4:00)

She is the author of the book "Is Your Business Worth Saving?" where she reveals proven strategies for pulling entrepreneurs out of a rut and launching them toward business success. In today's episode, I'm going to be addressing another question I got from a listener. I've talked before about how I keep a yearly calendar, and this reader wanted to know more about that. They said they are good at planning out a calendar for their week and sometimes their month, but it's hard for them to think about doing a quarterly calendar, much less a yearly one. Some highlights include: Step #1: Start with a brain dump. You need to get it all down on paper. At minute 1:00, I talk about everything you need to write down to get your yearly calendar started. Step #2: Color code it into separate categories. You need to have three different highlighters, and at minute 2:00, I tell you how to use them the way I do to break your events up into three distinct categories. Step #3: Go to Google and print out a free calendar. At minute 3:00, I talk about how to use this calendar with the categories from step #2. Step #4: It's now time to reevaluate your calendar. Is there a time where you aren't very busy? Maybe this is time for a launch. Some highlights include: Create an idea with a framework so you can explain it. Then get on a live broadcast like Periscope or Facebook Live (or both!) and start talking about your product. The feedback you receive from your audience will help you know what people want in the product, something that will make selling it much, much easier for you. (minute 1:00) As you're building your freemium, start to think about what mini-course you'll create to go along with it. It's so important to do this while creating the freemium because you may realize that too much of the meat is going into the freemium. You've got to be able to sell the mini-course. (minute 2:00) After you've created the freemium and mini-course, give away the freemium and go back on a live broadcast to tell your audience about the mini-course. You've already delivered them value, and it's time to tell them about the gap between the free and paid versions. (minute 3:00) Next, beta test your product, but don't give it away for free. If you do, people will just ignore it, and you won't get good feedback. What you need to do is give it away for a discount. This will keep them invested. (minute 4:00) How many people do you want to be beta testers? Enough for you to get great testimonials on your product. These are what you're going to use to actually sell your program.
