S3 Ep 701Why Lowering Cholesterol Won’t Save You: A New Approach to Heart Health with Dr. Aseem Malhotra
"Focusing on cholesterol is a waste of time in preventing heart disease. The real issue is insulin resistance." – Dr. Aseem Malhotra In this eye-opening episode, I sit down with Dr. Aseem Malhotra, a cardiologist whose bold research is shaking up conventional wisdom on heart health. Dr. Malhotra reveals that much of what we’ve been told about preventing heart disease—especially the focus on lowering cholesterol—is not only outdated but dangerously misleading. For women in their 40s and beyond, this conversation is a game-changer. Dr. Malhotra’s research shows that insulin resistance, often driven by our modern lifestyle, is the true culprit behind heart disease, not cholesterol levels. His fresh, evidence-based perspective challenges everything from low-fat diets to the overprescription of statins. What makes Dr. Malhotra’s story so compelling is his fearless approach to medicine. He’s faced criticism from the medical establishment for daring to question the status quo, but his commitment to the truth—and helping patients find real solutions—keeps him going. He shares actionable strategies that every woman can implement right now, from dietary changes like cutting out refined carbohydrates to incorporating stress-reducing practices such as meditation. His advice is simple yet powerful: focus on lifestyle changes that address insulin resistance, and you can not only prevent but potentially reverse heart disease. Dr. Malhotra’s journey isn’t just about uncovering the science—it’s about empowering women to take control of their health. He emphasizes the importance of looking at heart health holistically, reminding us that the way we manage stress, what we eat, and how much we move can have profound impacts on our well-being. For women entering midlife, this approach is especially critical as hormonal changes and other age-related factors can increase heart disease risk. If you’ve ever felt confused or misled about what really matters when it comes to your heart health, this episode is a must-listen. Dr. Malhotra’s insights will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew and give you the tools to make better choices for your body. Don’t miss this transformative discussion. S3 Ep 699Reclaim Your Health Through the Carnivore Diet with Dr. Shawn Baker
"The moment I realized food could be the answer to autoimmune diseases, obesity, and even mental health issues, I knew I had to shift my focus from surgery to nutrition." — Dr. Shawn Baker In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Shawn Baker, an orthopedic surgeon turned advocate for the carnivore diet. Dr. Baker’s journey is a powerful example of how radically changing your approach to food can transform your health, especially for women in midlife. He’s spent years seeing patients improve conditions like autoimmune diseases, inflammation, and even mental health through what he calls “the ultimate elimination diet.” His no-nonsense approach to health challenges the traditional narratives we’ve been told about food, and he brings data and clinical experience to back it up. Dr. Baker shares how the carnivore diet helped him help others avoid surgeries and regain control over chronic health issues. For women in their 40s and beyond, many of whom have been conditioned to think they need to "eat less and move more," this conversation is a wake-up call. He explains why bloating, discomfort, and cravings aren’t just "part of life"—they’re signals that something is off, often rooted in what we eat. Women, especially, are taught to fear fat, but Dr. Baker debunks those myths, showing how a high-protein, animal-based diet can actually help you feel fuller, reduce cravings, and tackle stubborn issues like joint pain and weight gain. If you've ever felt frustrated with diet trends, this episode will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about nutrition. Dr. Baker offers practical advice on transitioning to a carnivore or low-carb diet and provides insight into how food interacts with our immune systems, gut health, and even our mental well-being. Tune in for a candid and transformative conversation with Dr. Shawn Baker that might just change your relationship with food and health for good! What you’ll learn in this episode: Why the carnivore diet might be the ultimate elimination diet for healing How meat consumption affects joint health and arthritis (you'll be surprised!) S3 Ep 697Unlocking the Secrets of Mitochondrial Health with Dr. Anurag Singh
"Mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells, and if we don’t keep them in check, we risk losing the energy, strength, and vitality that allow us to age powerfully." - Dr. Anurag Singh In this energizing episode of the Well Beyond 40 podcast, I sit down with Dr. Anurag Singh, a pioneering expert in mitochondrial health, to dive deep into the science that can help us all age with power. As the Chief Medical Officer at Timeline, Dr. Singh has spearheaded over 50 clinical trials, focusing on groundbreaking ways to keep our cellular engines—the mitochondria—running optimally well beyond our 40s. We explore the fascinating compound Urolithin A, which I call “exercise in a bottle.” Urolithin A is derived from foods like pomegranates and walnuts, and plays a critical role in maintaining muscle health, boosting energy levels, and even improving skin quality as we age. Dr. Singh sheds light on the alarming statistics of muscle loss starting in our 30s and how it accelerates into our 60s and 70s. He offers actionable strategies that go beyond just increasing protein intake and resistance training, emphasizing the importance of using every tool available, including Urolithin A, to combat the decline. For those navigating the world of GLP-1 agonists for weight loss, Dr. Singh provides essential insights into how these medications impact muscle mass and mitochondria. His advice is clear: while these drugs can be effective, they must be coupled with proper nutrition, exercise, and mitochondrial support to prevent long-term muscle loss and metabolic issues. Tune in to discover how you can harness the power of your mitochondria to not only live longer but to live stronger, with more energy and resilience, well into your later years. Magnesium is crucial for everything from energy production to overall health, and when your levels are low, it can lead to a cascade of issues—many of which we tend to overlook or blame on aging. Take muscle cramps, for example. Those painful, unexpected spasms are one of the most common signs of magnesium deficiency. And it doesn’t stop there. S3 Ep 691Hormones and Heart Disease: A Vital Conversation with Dr. Felice Gersh
"Estrogen isn’t just a 'sex hormone'—it’s the life hormone. It’s the key to keeping your heart, brain, and body healthy and vibrant for decades beyond menopause." – Dr. Felice Gersh In this eye-opening episode of the Well Beyond 40 podcast, I sit down with Dr. Felice Gersh, a leading expert in integrative medicine and a trailblazer in hormone therapy, to tackle one of the most critical yet overlooked health risks for women—heart disease. While breast cancer often dominates the conversation, heart disease remains the number one killer of women, particularly after menopause. Dr. Gersh sheds light on the powerful role that certain hormones play in protecting our bodies and why it’s essential to rethink how we approach hormone replacement therapy (HRT) as we age. Our discussion is not just groundbreaking—it's life-changing. We explore which hormone makes the most dramatic impact on our bodies as we age, leading to increased risks of heart disease, stroke, and even cognitive decline. But here's the silver lining: it's never too late to take action. Whether you’re 50, 60, or even 70, Dr. Gersh provides compelling evidence that starting hormone therapy later in life can still offer significant benefits, and what crucial steps you can take to support your hormone receptors. If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s safe to start HRT years after menopause, or if you’ve been told you’re too old to begin, this episode will give you hope and empower you with the knowledge to take control of your health. And for those who’ve battled breast cancer, Dr. Gersh also addresses the complexities of hormone therapy, discussing when it might be safe and effective, and when alternative approaches are necessary. Tune in to discover why Dr. Felice Gersh is my go-to expert on hormones and aging, and learn how to take proactive steps to protect your heart, your health, and your future. Don’t miss out—this episode is packed with pearls of wisdom that every woman needs to hear.
