Ep 21Writing Your First Book & How Down Syndrome Could Change Your Outlook W/ Tori Swillum
E21: Writing Your First Book & How Down Syndrome Could Change Your Outlook W/ Tori Swillum Today we take a look inside my family to introduce my sister Victoria Swillum. Tori is a dance major at Dean College who specializes in studio management and focuses on adaptive dance in the Down Syndrome community. Tori recently wrote her first book while at college on Down Syndrome awareness and how dance can play a role in the mental ability community. When Tori isn’t writing or doing her classes she works at the Boston Ballet and does adaptive dance courses at a local senior center for adults with a range of abilities. This episode dives into our mindset development from growing up with our brother Dylan who has Down Syndrome and what we’ve taken from the experience. Dylan has played an absolutely pivotal role in our mindset and outlook on life and we cannot be more passionate to share this feeling with people who haven’t had the chance to get involved with the community. Lastly we talk about writing your first book and some of the steps to take to make it happen. In this episode: Write a book! You can do it and distribute it for real! Self accountability Fighting procrastination or knowing how you work best Framing a book out, how to get started Technology gives you the access, distribution is ours now Dance in public if you want to, live like no one is watching Don’t let other people determine what you do as a person Creating friendships with the mental abilities community Stopping judgement, awareness of our own built in bias Progressing the disabled community with modern times Art is an unspoken language, how does this help non-verbal people? Quotes: “ For me procrastination isn’t bad because it’s when I actually do things” -Tori Swillum “ There’s nothing to lose, there’s no money to lose” - Tori Swillum “ Some people don’t know how to not care” - Tori Swillum Links: Tori’s Links Insta @tori_swillz Tori’s Book! Ep 19Using Art To Overcome Our Roadblocks & Break Through In The New Industry W/ Simon Pellett
E19: Our first joint podcast!!!! Welcome back peeps Welcome back to the podcast, sorry for failing on a release time last week! I’m finally settled in my new down sized place and getting back up to speed on life. This week we talk to Simon Pellett on our first ever joint podcast with another content creator. Simon started a podcast called “Music On Your Own Terms” where he discusses entrepreneur and business traits and habits with artists around the world to better support the music community with useful information from both fields. Simon and I met through Instagram when I started discussing ideas with him first on comments, then through DM, then on the phone until we had to get our ideas together on an episode! This episode we look at how having a side hobby or relaxed passion on the side of your side hustle and 9-5 can be beneficial to addressing depression, anxiety, and a full life. We delve into some behind the scenes of our times in bands and how business principles can be applied to your band or artist life. Simon’s Bio: Simon Pellett grew up the south of England, spending his teenage years becoming engrossed in art and music, and learning to play the guitar. At 20 he met a girl and left the UK, moving north of Boston in the US.and over the years contributed to several different musical projects, while working on his career as a graphic artist. From his early teens he suffered from anxiety and depression, which caused crippling self-doubt, virtually halting any confidence to join bands or play in public for fear of ridicule and not being good enough. It wasn’t until a childhood friend turned him on to motivational and leadership authors and speakers such as Tony Robbins, that he began to work on overcoming his fears and seeking to improve himself in all aspects of life. After working with various musicians in New England, Simon joined a band that opened for national touring acts, won a battle of the bands, and was interviewed on radio. The band ran its course, but the relationships in the scene and the experiences were invaluable. With the entrepreneurial and mindset knowledge gained from constantly seeking new books and podcasts, coupled with seeing first hand the stumbling blocks that bands run into when trying to build a career in music, he launched a podcast called Music On your Own Terms. This podcast aims to help musicians develop an entrepreneurial mindset, overcome the same self doubt, anxiety and depression and to build a community of musicians that work together to improve the scene with the mantra “A rising tide lifts all ships”. Simon’s family recently moved to Texas and he is now playing with a new band and applying those learned principles both to improve the band’s success and as a test for others to follow suit and find success for themselves. In this episode: - Self awareness, understanding what your productivity looks like - Going after depression/anxiety in your life - Empathy - Using a hobby or passion to help channel your thoughts/emotions - How creative or music can help with physical pain - Success time frame against instant gratification - How do you define yourself? Ep 18How To Stop Living Paycheck To Paycheck So You Can Make Your Own Financial Choices
Welcome to E18 The First Micro-Segment Today I wanted to mix it up a bit from the interviews we have been doing and try to provide value to specific groups of our audience. We usually go a bit longer so these will be shorter micro episodes that are based off of information I've gathered myself through my own experiences or from our guests on the show that weren't covered in the interviews! One of the BIGGEST reasons I told myself I could pursue my dreams was because I was living paycheck to paycheck doing exactly what I thought I was supposed to do. Get out of college, get a job, and get a house. We lucked out with the timing of our house purchase so I don't regret anything but at the end of the day I had to make a change in my spending habits and financial living so I could make the decisions I needed to make and take the risks I needed to take to move my life in the direction I want. In this episode I talk about some tips I have from getting out of living paycheck to paycheck based off of what works for me. If your not in this position or feel like my ways are not effective thats ok! Skip this one and I'll see you on my interview segments or on some other topics that may be more applicable to your status. In this episode: - My quick financial journey - Ways to see your cashflow - Personal financial planning techniques - Ways to save money - Ideas to make more money without making it at your day job - Ways to attack debt in a more manageable way - Ideas for your future growth in starting to pursue financial freedom Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Website www.wakingupfromwork.com Instagram/Twitter @davewakeup @ryancarrigan4 Facebook www.facebook.com/wakingupfromwork Email [email protected] Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber Dave’s audio business www.crawlspaceaudio.com

Ep 10Managing Your Energy & Changing Lives "The Goal Outweighs The Instant Gratification" W/ Jake Lospennato
Episode 10 Living in hustle city can be difficult to prioritize and make sure we are taking care to be balanced. Being balanced in physical and mental health, relationships, work, and passion is important to make us effective leaders in our field. Today we talk to a certified personal trainer, online coach, and creator Jake Lospennato. We hit two topics both in the entrepreneurial game of Jake’s transition and movement in his field as well as being physically active to help us have control on our energy when we need it. It’s not easy when we work 14 hour days to find time to work out and to get everything else we need done but I’ve found being active makes me more present and energized to pull off the work load. Jake went from not being confident or fit in his mental and physical habits through high school and turned to physical performance to create habits to lead him to success and a new business to work from. He try’s to use his coaching and physical programs to get people out of depression and back into the world to crush it. Jake went from working sales to being a personal trainer and hitting online and coaching services to build his income in the career pivot he took into entrepreneurship. Quotes: “ I can put in the 14 hour day and I go to bed like I just had a Saturday off” - Host Dave Swillum “ I don’t care how much I get paid, I just want to get paid to get people healthy and change lives” - Jake Lospennato “ Everything is an energy game flat out, everything is how you manage your energy and you have more energy when you exercise and eat right, if you don’t have energy all the tasks you have feel heavier and harder to do” - Host Dave Swillum “ The goal outweighs the instant gratification” - Jake Lospennato “ When your heart is in it and you truly love it, you find a way to make money” - Jake Lospennato Links: Social Media @jakelospennato Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Instagram @davewakeup @ryancarrigan4 Facebook www.facebook.com/wakingupfromwork Email [email protected] Dave's Audio Business www.crawlspaceaudio.com
Ep 9Can You Be A Parent & Entrepreneur? How Greg Creates Content and How It Can Help You Too
Episode 9 So I’m not a father yet, definitely someday. One thing I’ve heard from a lot of my listeners and friends has been a question of how we go after our dreams while we have a family at risk with our financial and time management. Gregory Schurman is a friend of mine that I used to work sales with and we have both been close in communication hustling to go after what we want. About 2 years ago Greg had his first kid and is still busting his ass to grow in the video and content creation field and is really starting to get some traction. I wanted to talk about his story and how he combats his fears and families fears about him pursuing his passion while taking care of his family. Another point we tackle is how useful and impactful content and social media can play in their business, their brand, or their dream. Creating video, photo, or audio content that coincide with your vision or your dream can help you meet and form a relationship with your customers or community before they have met you. We buy from brands we know and trust, we as human beings are no different in that way. The podcast has been my first form of content and in 1 season of 10 episodes its made a huge impact on me going in depth with other people doing similar things that I do and creating a community around it to work together to tackle this stuff. Quotes: “ Everybody wants to have their own media” - Gregory Schurman “ I’m at this point where I feel like I’m living a couple of different lives” - Gregory Schurman “ There’s nothing that we can do thats not risky that the payout wouldn’t be amazing if we succeed” Gregory Schurman “ Your never gonna be ready, so don’t try and be” Gregory Schurman Links: Greg’s Contact Instagram @schurmangregory Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Instagram @davewakeup @ryancarrigan4 Facebook www.facebook.com/wakingupfromwork Email [email protected] Dave's Audio Business www.crawlspaceaudio.com
Ep 8Market Yourself & Shape Your Mindset W/ Zach Brennan
Episode 8 Let’s take a look at how we market ourselves and our brand. Perception is reality so the way people perceive our brand whether it be personal or business is the reality to the people that don’t know us in person. Zach and I have been in bands since we were in our early teens and often connected up in the same scene in NH an MA. Being in a serious band is like being in a family, relationship, and business at the same time so it’s an interesting perspective to get early in your life.
