Ep 121Managing A Relationship While Pursuing An Alternative Living / Career W/ Elizabeth Cunningham
EE121: After working with Elizabeth as a client managing her podcast and creating original music for her I had to have her on the show to share some of the content I had been hearing. Elizabeth is a love coach and works with love, sex, and relationships on the west coast. One thing I’ve seen in our community here is the friction that pops up with peoples relationships as they start pursuing an alternative model of living and career path. Entrepreneurs as couples together both starting something up or one entrepreneur and one partner with a more standard living practice both have their own challenges. I wanted to share some of her wisdom so we can all focus on the things that truly matter while we pursue our purpose and our creative successfully. We speak through empathy and entitlement, human brain justification and problem seeking. Ownership and managing expectations inside the relationship. Elizabeth has created a six figure coaching business in Seattle helping people with what she loves, so she’s here to help in business and in life as well. In This Episode We Cover Love, sex, and relationships Relationship with time and money Compassion and empathy for yourself and others Deeper levels of love that we aren’t aware of Empathy Humans can justify anything, we are programmed to Taking responsibility for your own actions and understanding why Managing a relationship as an entrepreneur Managing a relationship as two entrepreneurs Setting aside sacred time for the things you really love Keeping new relationship energy Agreements with your partner Over communicate! Brain thoughts Quotes “Does what I’m doing right now work, or does it not work? Humans can justify anything. Anything.” - Elizabeth Cunningham “People say things but it’s not the source. Ep 119Who Need's To Leave Your Life NOW & Who You Need To Bring In To It W/ Dave Swillum
EE119: Every person in your life has an impact on how you feel, think, and operate. When we are going after our dreams and thinking outside the box as creatives and entrepreneurs people will create friction with you. People will question you, or believe in you but just live things that are negative to your missions which makes it harder for you to keep away from the habits you don’t want to portray. People are typically in good intention but we are the sum of the 5 people we spend the most time with. That’s why it’s important even if we aren’t looking to take people completely out of our life because we love them, we at least be very aware of what affect they have and make alterations to change that affect if it’s negative. It’s time to get the people harming you out of your life and bring in people that challenge you and make you stronger. We don’t have to get rid of loved ones we care for but it may be time to alter how they show up and appear in your life in order to form the life you want instead of what others want of you. In This Episode We Cover Who needs to leave your life? Who needs to come in to your life? You are the sum of the 5 people you hang with the most We are altered but all who are around us Difference between belief in you and challenging you Do they hear you out? Or not Time wasters - No respect for your time Bad influences are sneaky Breaking down mentors People that ask how, not black or white Sniffing out if people are fake supporting you on the internet Do the actions line up with the words? Quotes “ If someone’s f($*% up your steps, then it’s really hard to get to where you want to go to.” - Host Dave Swillum “You can’t really feel good and meet good people and get them in there if you are bogged down by negative things and people that are messing with your dream.” - Host Dave Swillum “They radiate something that makes you want to glow more.” - Host Dave Swillum Resources Noted In This Podcast Episode Crab Bucket Mentality https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab_mentality#:~:text=The%20metaphor%20is%20derived%20from,ensuring%20the%20group's%20collective%20demise. Ep 117Understanding Time Along YOUR Journey: Competitive Urgency Vs. You Have Time! W/ Dave Swillum
EE117: Many times when we are purpose driven or after a dream we have added difficulties in perceiving and controlling our time because we spend additional years putting in the work. Sometimes when we aren’t happy with what we are doing we need more “competitive urgency” or drive thinking what would I regret right now if I instantly turned 90 or what would my obituary read tomorrow? Other times we are working with hat urgency but it may take us away from the moments we aren’t meant to think that way where we need to accept that we have time. We have a lot of time in context to where we are at with our goals. This episode quickly dives into the medium between these two feelings and opens discussion for you based on where you are personally at. Some days I need to get back after it and others I need to chill out a bit and be where my feet are. Either way let’s look at a large concept of time and break it down a bit for how we process on our journey of purpose in creative. In This Episode We Cover Competitive urgency How we think of time as entrepreneurs and creatives How time is related to time We age ourselves with our own perception What would your obituary say if you died tomorrow ? You have time Take time to enjoy the process There are mundane periods and that’s normal Time & Money as resources for a business Quotes “ Every single thing that we buy, anything that has any price on it and anything that is priceless is based on the human perception of time. I believe we pay to save time or how we want to spend our time in some way.” - Host Dave Swillum “ If you act young then you’re young, if you act old then your old.” - Host Dave Swillum Waking Up From Work Podcast Links IG / Tik Tok / Clubhouse / Twitter Follow / DM Me! @davewakeup Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/ Email [email protected] Youtube Channel & Series https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com Dave’s Indie Band Broadwing https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/broadwing/tennessee

Ep 103Finding Your Way To Stay Centered W/ Dave Swillum
EE103: Have you ever felt away from your center? Like you have plans and actions you are taking but float away from the why and what is happening past the calendar? I think this year of any we all particularly have felt drifting from our center selves after being out of our norm for so long or locked up inside away from socialization. I took a long weekend away off grid in a cabin where I saw no other people just playing guitar, reading, and thinking. This helped me get back out of it a bit and keep marching forward. I’ve found I need to stir things up either by displacing myself, making it so I need to live differently day to day or shake it up in some other way to keep my compass and stay fresh. Let’s talk about ways to stay or get back to center. In This Episode We Cover Getting centered and staying there Being aware and being proactive Keeping true north Taking time to reflect on your own actions Shaking things up True quite helps me Do things different Quotes “ When we’re not centered and we don’t have a true north and know what’s going on it’s really hard to tell why we do anything that we do.” - Dave Swillum “ How cool am I with me? Ep 100Episode 100! Why Do You Wake Up & Do What You Do Everyday Instead Of Anything Else In The World? W/ Dave
EE100: Thank you so much for getting us to episode 100 of the show! I am so grateful for any of you that have given your time to be a part of this so far. On this special episode to celebrate and reflect we made a mash up of over 40 of our guests answers over the years responding to the same question I always ask….”Why do you wake up every day and do what you do instead of any other thing you could do in the world.” I ask this because I think your WHY is the single most important thing behind any action. Why do you do what you do? What’s the truth and what’s things we make up? Everyone has to figure it out for themselves but I thought putting these answers back to back would be a really interesting way to reflect on our community and guests. Thank you for listening and message me on any of the platforms what your thoughts are and what you’d like to see out of this show moving forward! Ep 96Staying Focused, Staying Engaged, & Staying In The Game Long Enough To Win It W/ Dave Swillum
EE96: When you have that go getter mentality you do a lot and thats awesome, you have to take action to make it happen. BUT it’s really easy to do the wrong or less productive things when you don’t have a schedule or focus on the most important things in the right order. On this episode we talk about having a weekly schedule, time blocking activities, staying engaged with your passion even when you have to be patient. Dealing with the “slow” times while you are building something can be really hard to not act more than you can. We fill the time we have with the activity so controlling that and shifting our focus and energy to hit our goals is important for anyone getting busy pursuing their passion full time. In This Episode We Cover Staying focused Staying engaged Dealing with the slow times Having a weekly schedule Getting a lot done and the right things done Time blocking Parkinson's Law Accomplishing our hardest task before noon Giving yourself days down Quotes “ I feel good when I’m doing things, it’s a vice of mine to do things.” - Host Dave Swillum “ Giving your self the ability to F$%*$ off, give yourself F$&$ off days.” - Host Dave Swillum “ The people that get it are the people that stay in the game the longest.” - Host Dave Swillum Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Website www.wakingupfromwork.com Instagram/Twitter/Tik Tok @davewakeup Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/ Email [email protected] Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com Dave’s Indie Rock Band Broadwing www.broadwingband.bandcamp.com

Ep 93Starting Your Creative Business As A Stay At Home Mom W/ Nicole Gearty Photography
EE93: Welcome to the episode! Today is for the stay at home moms out there that have been wanting to start their own creative business but haven’t felt like they could. We interview Nicole Gearty of Nicole Gearty Photography about her transition through multiple part time jobs while being a stay at home mom to business owner living full time off her creative with her little one. Nicole and I chat on the differences between having business owners and entrepreneurs in the family or none, taking feedback, gear, resetting, and all the things that come in to play as a mother starting a business keeping a space and time for yourself and continuing to be a great parent. Although we talk a lot about the parent aspect we cover a range of topics in the creative living space so there’s something here for everyone. In This Episode We Cover Losing your income Childcare vs having your child at home Starting a business as a stay at home parent Taking feedback Letting your defenses down Long distance relationships while pursuing your goals Resetting Taking real photos, the moment Business owner parents vs non business owner parents? The hard parts of owning a business vs the fantasy dreams Making time for yourself Quotes “ When you own your own business and you can’t work you don’t have sick time you’re not getting paid for those days. I’ve seen those days and those are hard but I’ve seen enough to know that’s still what I want to do.” - Nicole Gearty “ Owning your own business and being employed is like the difference between renting an apartment or owning a house. When you are renting an apartment and the heater breaks down you can just call the land lord and they’ll come fix it. When you own your own house and something breaks down you have to fix it but your investing in yourself.” - Nicole Gearty “ People aren’t just a thing, we are super complicated. Ep 92Fish Tank Philosophy: Planning To Fit The Size Of The Goal
EE92: With everyone planning at the beginning of the year and goal setting one of the biggest things I’ve seen go wrong is not planning big enough for the potential you have. If you are working to bring your business or art to a higher scale you may not know what level you can be at until you’re there…..so how do you plan for that? A very half truth but I love the saying “A goldfish will grow to the tank size you keep it in” so don’t plan at the level your tank is now, plan for the tank you want to be in or you’ll never grow to your full potential. Very short episode on how to plan your goals larger than where you are at so you can become a larger gold fish in the future because you have to…..or something! In This Episode We Cover Goldfish grow to the size of the tank Aiming and planning past your current abilities Planning to “figure it out” Don’t plan to outgrow when you hit it We aren’t aware of what we will know What’s the One Thing? You will fit the shape of the space or challenge you start Give yourself the chance to be bigger than you are now Quotes “ When your planning your next step or your goals for this year, make sure your planning to put yourself in a large fish tank instead of planning based off of what you are aware of right now, you will out grow that right when you reach the goal.” - Host Dave Swillum “ Give yourself the chance, give yourself the ability for yourself to grow into the ability for a bigger plan than you have now.” - Host Dave Swillum Recommended Resources Links The One Thing https://amzn.to/3o0Kvqy Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Website www.wakingupfromwork.com Instagram/Twitter/Tik Tok @davewakeup Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/ Email [email protected] Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com Dave’s Indie Rock Band Broadwing www.broadwingband.bandcamp.com

And I would say Nobody, and she’d be like your damn right your nobody.” - Rob Azevedo “ I don’t know about you but if I go any length of time without doing something creative I start feeling like a useless piece of shit.” - Rob Azevedo “People always want a secret sauce and at the end of the day it’s like your either working your ass off for a long period of time, you are working to meet people, or your straight up taking an action and it played.” - Host Dave Swillum Rob Azevedo’s Links Rob’s number 603- 264-1757 Facebook https://www.facebook.com/GSMwithRobAzevedo Radio Station Page https://nhtalkradio.com/?page_id=9004 Rob’s Book https://amzn.to/3shzhBy Rob’s Poetry Book: Turning On The Wasp https://books.google.com/books/about/Turning_on_the_Wasp.html?id=FmYdzgEACAAJ Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Website www.wakingupfromwork.com Instagram/Twitter/Tik Tok @davewakeup Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/ Email [email protected] Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com Dave’s Indie Rock Band Broadwing www.broadwingband.bandcamp.com

Ep 84How Can I? Instead Of I Can't Because...... W/ Dave Swillum
EE84: As a creative, business owner, or dreamer it’s really easy to shut an idea or dream down. “I can’t because…….” I want that to change to “How can I? Here’s a few ways.” We spend a lot of time talking about why something can’t happen but by starting there we never look into information we may not know yet, perspectives of those that have or are doing it, or even give ourselves permission to pursue it. Let’s have a discussion about a simple flip about how we assess how something can or can’t happen and why instead of saying it can’t happen and giving up. This can force you to find a way when you didn’t know there was one. In This Episode We Cover How can I? Instead of I can’t because…… How are you going to face something? Creating and stopping action You may still not know if it can happen after you deep dive You know that you don’t know Being scared of the answer Redirect to the right path Always trying to take an action of some sort Go figure out how you can do something before you say you can’t Quotes “ It immediately stops the conversation or stops the thought before you can do something about it at all.” - Host Dave Swillum “ When you start there you don’t know how it’s going to happen and you don’t know if its possible.” - Host Dave Swillum Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Website www.wakingupfromwork.com Instagram/Twitter/Tik Tok @davewakeup Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/ Email [email protected] Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com Dave’s Indie Rock Band Broadwing www.broadwingband.bandcamp.com

Ep 82Having The Strength To Say It Isn't The Right Path & Change It Up W/ Meagan Swillum
EE82: It isn’t easy going after your dream and it’s even harder to say it isn’t the right path after giving up so much. My wife Meagan and I sold our house, lived long distance as a married couple for a year (would have been 4) and dealt with depression and other hardships to give her the ability to get into and be a part of a doctoral degree pursuing her Vet degree. After all of that it was difficult for Meg to say it wasn’t the right path but in the process she found what she was meant to do. While at school Meg was in business clubs and realized she liked the business aspect of running a vet practice but didn’t visualize herself practicing the medicine, just running the business. Listen to the story of what she’s working on now on her own entrepreneurial story and what it’s like to tell your spouse, friends, and family and make a change. In This Episode We Cover Changing your mind Hitting the world after college Is this the right path? Depression & struggles Pressures of a doctoral program Fate? COVID influence Trying your hardest and not getting the reward Being good in practice doesn’t make a good owner What is the marketing calling for? Short term rentals What are you getting energy from? What’s taking it away? Give yourself time to think Quotes “I was never that type of student that could just roll out of bed and get A’s on my courses. I always had to work for every course to get what I needed.” - Meagan Swillum “I’m gonna cry for 30 minutes, take a shower, wash it off, then get back to work until 2AM. Ep 78Just In Time Buying Habits For Creatives & Start Ups W/ Dave Swillum
EE78 We all want all the gadgets and gear when it comes tor our creative career, business, hobbies, and passion but we shouldn’t always act on those impulses. When you are working to go full time keeping overhead low and mitigating debt and risk is the name of the game. Buying what’s needed to get the job done and give the time and quality needed is important but overbuying is really easy and justifying not acting until you have something is easy to do. Let’s talk about a buying habit that has helped me buy what I need over what I want for growing a business. Just in time buying habits for business and creatives. In This Episode We Cover Start faster with Debt or take longer with less overhead? Chicken or the egg with gear and equipment Managing risk Deciding on market or gut Lead business model Just in time buying Buy what you need to do the job Get it if you NEED it Excuse of gear stopping you from starting Value of time Where should you save? Not saving on the things you shouldn’t save Quotes “ I would take the deposit and go buy the equipment to do the gig.” - Host Dave Swillum “ It’s really easy to tell yourself because you don’t have the best mic that you can’t start a podcast, that if you don’t have the best computer in the world you can’t buy an interface and start recording at home. Ep 77The W's Of Sharing Your Vision W/ Dave Swillum
EE77: It’s hard enough finding what your true vision for life is let alone finding where and when to share it so it benefits your efforts. Join me on this quick solo episode breaking down what I’ve learned and experienced from sharing my vision with others. Controlling the energy and pressures induced from sharing it with others to help you get closer to your creative goals. Not everyone should know what you are planning all the time because they may not help while others definitely should. Sometimes it isn’t the time or place but manifesting comes from sharing what you can offer to the world. Let’s chat. In This Episode We Cover Writing, telling others and saying out loud manifests Finding your people Who can and can’t hear it? Where will you get negative and positive reactions Energy & Pressure Accidentally challenging others Self awareness and empathy Trial vision sharing Putting out bread crumbs of the vision to gauge the room Is it an open or closed conversation? You need a compass that people see Quotes “ When you right it down or say it to other people you are creating pressures and energy that make it more real or easier to achieve.” - Host Dave Swillum “ In the middle can be a slippery slope because you can be in the middle for a long time. You can get one goal done and go on to another and it stays in the middle.” - Host Dave Swillum “ Gauge your room, gauge yourself.” - Host Dave Swillum via Meagan Swillum Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Website www.wakingupfromwork.com Instagram/Twitter/Tik Tok @davewakeup Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/ Email [email protected] Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com Dave’s Indie Rock Band Broadwing www.broadwingband.bandcamp.com

EE76: Another repeat guest now that we are getting two years out from launch a lot has changed. Today is about sharing something I’ve never been able to speak to with certainty but hear a lot of listeners and friends speak on. How do you start a business when you have a kid? We’ve had some amazing guests that do both but I wanted to share a fresh perspective on both the business and being a parent. Please join me with Coach Jake Lospennato again to speak on being a new father and new business owner full time. It isn’t easy but it can happen and in this episode you’ll hear how if you thought about it before past or pre tense. Talk about societal pressures, having the right partner, being the best you can for your child BY pursuing your dreams, balance, and a lot more. In This Episode We Cover Having your first child while going after you dream Leaving something you tried hard for Recreating the vision When Income disappears Focusing on being a dad to focus on the dream List out everything that you’ve done Having the right partner Perspective shift Societal norms that get in the way The fear of having kids and being stopped There is no 100% Boundaries Balance Quotes “We didn’t plan to have a child, it was a surprise. Ashley is a rockstar mother and it helps so much because she supports me to be able to do what I do. Having a partner like that, I’m not sure everyone has a partner that’s that supportive. If your partner isn’t that supportive. Ep 75Drums, Real Estate, & Business Oh My! W/ Jamie Ryan
EE75: Sorry the title is super lame but I am too so that’s kind of part of it. Another IG connection. Jamie has tuned in on and off for some time now and we connected more through IG and found we have VERY similar interests and live really close which is weird because I am a pretty mixed dude. Fun episode, stays light hearted but hits on a lot of points between all the interests. We talk on why the blend makes sense and how it helps and hurts us. Lifestyle choice and design, and dig into each piece. If you like all or none there’s something here but still really at large why we both ended up doing all these things. What blend makes you up? In This Episode We Cover Taking opportunities as they come It’s easy to stay in a job you don’t like Blending what you like Glass ceiling Lifestyle choice Seeing opportunity Renovations Paying or doing? No overhead means freedom Sacrifice now When are you setting up for? Long term? No input/output for time anymore Success leaves clues Harness your 20’s Start early Quotes “ I”m taking opportunities as they come and I’m letting the universe guide it. Whenever opportunities come, take advantage of them, and play your best hand with the cards that you got.” - Jamie Ryan “Dealing with bosses and having that glass ceiling above over your head. Like your working your ass off and they’re only giving you like $20 dollars an hour with a little bit of commission. I can’t deal with that.” - Jamie Ryan “None of it is cool, none of it is a fun thing but If I could do this for a little bit then I could wake up and do whatever I want then it’s worth it.” - Host Dave Swillum Jamie Ryan’s Resources The One Thing By Gary Keller https://amzn.to/2ZCEwPf Bigger Pockets Podcast https://www.biggerpockets.com/ Jamie Ryan’s Links IG/FB @jcryan25 Groove Renovation’s Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Website www.wakingupfromwork.com Instagram/Twitter/Tik Tok @davewakeup Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/ Email [email protected] Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com Dave’s Indie Rock Band Broadwing www.broadwingband.bandcamp.com
Ep 74Make It A Problem First W/ Dave Swillum
EE74: If you have problem taking action this one’s for you. Solo episode w/ Dave in shorter length. I’ve seen countless creatives and business owners prevent themselves from taking the next steps because they come up with problems that don’t exist yet. They come up with how something will be a problem before knowing. This episode is about walking through why it makes sense in some situations to actually cause a problem you need to solve to get your business or creative life moving forward. We can all say we don’t have time, its too much money, I can’t from this area, I don’t know the right people…….we can’t have these problems until it happens. Let’s talk it out on E74. In This Episode We Cover Taking an action You can always solve a problem We solve problems all day You are choosing your problems Creating Action Limiting Belief No one has time A real problem The mind is trained to protect We need risk Mitigate it We fix our biggest problems first Problems are still problems, but what do you want? Quotes “ No one has time, if you have time you fill it up with shit to do. No one has time…..it’s the biggest limiting self belief.” - Host Dave Swillum “Make a problem a real problem.” - Host Dave Swillum “You will by habit focus on your biggest problems first.” - Host Dave Swillum Waking Up From Work Podcast Links Website www.wakingupfromwork.com Instagram/Twitter/Tik Tok @davewakeup Merch To Support Us! https://wakeup.itemorder.com/sale?fbclid=IwAR30nyVXdpFaax0mN0CRcC_mVjNzafbMo0spds82eoG-GMo01HG6Uq0dvzw Patreon (If you want to support the show check out our sweet offers for you) https://www.patreon.com/wakingupfromwork Facebook Community to connect to creatives https://www.facebook.com/groups/wakingupfromwork/about/ Email [email protected] Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJeddF25VuWn8Eg3Fhy13fQ?view_as=subscriber For audio advice and more in depth music content from Dave www.crawlspaceaudio.com Dave’s Indie Rock Band Broadwing www.broadwingband.bandcamp.com
Ep 73Less Is More: "Alternative" Living W/ The Hunters Van Life
EE73: In today’s episode Dave speaks with long time friends Ethan and Katelynn Hunter of Hunters Van Life. For awhile now I’ve wanted to interview some van life or other “alternative life” people out there to get perspective on the why behind it. I believe the why is the same why many of us have just in a different approach at achieving a life we want to live all the time being creative and having time to create. We speak about the process, working for what you want to have happen. Control on life and perspective of time. Perception of the life and time we want verses what we actually have to do and what is not real. Lots of deep conversation sprinkled with some pre-game wine and jokes between friends. Lots to think about here but not too deep to go for a run and hang with us. In This Episode We Cover Seeing where your money is going Wanting less Having less What do you need, what do you care about? What is for you? What other ways can you live? Minimum expenses Creating a schedule When you want you can make it happen Things have to suck sometimes Time when your in it vs when you look back Controlling time There are other ways to live Quotes “We just worked two weeks, now we are all set for the next 3 months.” - Ethan Hunter “ You don’t have to do the 9 to 5, you don’t have to buy the house with the picket fence and fill it up with things. There are other ways to live. People think this is what we are supposed to be doing and if you aren’t feeling like thats meant for you or that brings you true joy then there are other ways.” - Katelynn Hunter “When there’s something that you really want you just do it, you make it work. If there’s something you really want I truly believe you just make it happen.” - Katelynn Hunter “I need that game to play, I need the other game to play, and I know that.” - Host Dave Swillum “When your in your 30’s or 40’s looking back 6 months feels like nothing. Kevin Billingslea records mostly out of the greater Portland, ME area and has backed artists like Lamb Of God, Vanna, Cruel Hand, Valley Heart, and so many others.
