It was Liverpool crown court that saw 58 year old Philip Baron plead guilty to importing cocaine and cannabis and money laundering. Lauren Jeska was a fell runner.As a transgender athlete, she had been asked to provide evidence of hormone levels after historical complaints to UK Athletics that she had an unfair advantage competing in women’s events because she had been born a man. The policy of the governing body required the athlete to take a blood test, but she took exception to this and feared being unable to compete. At the police conference, officers appealed for information about the death of 21 year old Richard Holmes. It was 11.57pm when the emergency services were called to a house fire in Woking, Surrey. The call was made by a panicking and distressed Alan Jermey. On the call to the fire service, Alan confirmed he was on the roof of the house with his two young daughters, “I'm upstairs, the fire is downstairs. There is just smoke coming up.” It was two minutes into the call that he told the operator: “The thing is, I don't know where my partner is.... Firefighters were called to a house fire in a small village, just north of Nottingham. They quickly extinguished the blaze but inside the house, tragically they found the body of mum of two, Jacqueline Bartlam. But Jacqueline had not succumbed to the flames or smoke inhalation, she had been brutally beaten and murdered before the house was set on fire.
