Despite all the advancements of modern society, are we any happier? While we tend to scorn the wisdom of past generations, maybe the ancients knew something about happiness that we don’t. This Sunday we'll look at one of the oldest teachings on happiness, Psalm 1, to see what we can learn about finding happiness today.

What makes us happy?” It’s not as easy of a question as you might think. Some of the things we assume make us happy, actually don’t. Many of us search for happiness, but have a hard time finding it. But both psychology and theology tell us there is ONE source of happiness that surpasses them all. What is it? We’ll find out this Sunday as we begin a brand new teaching series exploring the causes and complexities of human happiness.

Before a runner starts a race they get into the “set” position. As Trinity looks toward the future, how can we get ourselves “set” for success? This Sunday, Trinity will be holding its annual Ministry Fair, and Rob will be challenging all of us to get into our positions.

Names are more than labels. We are intimately connected to our names in ways that are powerful and mysterious, and our names enable us to enter into relationship with each other. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we see tons of people: family, friends, coworkers, strangers. We see them… but do we really see them? How much do we really pay attention to the people around us, especially those people who are struggling and need? Today we explore Jesus’ provocative question, “Do you see…?"

How many of us have gone to Jesus looking for an answer? If you look through the bible, Jesus actually asks more questions than he gives answers - 307 times to be exact! This week we start our new sermon series: Jesus is the Question, where we explore questions Jesus asked and why these questions are so life-changing.

In the final week of our Fixer Upper series we are exploring how renovated hearts leads to restored relationships. The work of renovation isn’t a DIY project: we need good people in our lives to help us grow. So, how can we create life-giving relationships while restoring broken ones as well?

The most visible part of any reno project is the exterior. Nobody sees the plumbing, they see the fixtures. Nobody sees the wiring, they see the lights. The same thing happens when we undergo a spiritual renovation in our heart. Eventually, those changes inside us will show up on the outside: in our behaviours, decisions, and choices. Are you ready to make real changes in your life?

99% of the decisions we make are not based on facts or truth but are rooted in emotions/feelings. Joy, fear, love, acceptance, anger, greed, are all different forms of emotions we experience in our life, and all of them affect our spiritual health. Luke Lima, a student at Wycliffe College, will teach us that managing our emotions is essential to renovating our spiritual lives.

A major renovation often involves rewiring in order to fix something broken, or make something old become new again. This is no different from a major renovation of the heart - transforming our lives requires rewiring our thoughts; and this may mean changing the ideas, images, and information that we currently hold onto. Join us for this episode as Rob Hurkmans talks to us about renewing our minds on the journey to transforming our lives.

Renovations aren’t cheap! The cost of labour, time and materials need to be carefully weighed out before beginning a project. Spiritual formation is no different. Before we invite Jesus to renovate our hearts and remodel our lives, we need to realize that this kind of spiritual renewal comes with a cost. The question is, are we willing to pay the price? This week, our summer student Erikan Olaye helps work out a budget for the process of spiritual formation.

This week, we began a new sermon series titled Fixer Upper - Renovation of the Heart. Rob talks to us about our spiritual houses, places where if we let God in as our general contractor, our 'dream spiritual house' can be a reality. And after all, we're all in need of some TLC, because we are all 'fixer uppers'.
