S8 Ep 37Blurred Lines / Scream Copycat Knife Attack

E

The ground was too uneven for George to attempt to follow the route to the stream that flowed 30 feet below, so he watched as his dog sniffed the ground behind large rocks. The animal was fixated on a black bin liner, and from George’s perspective, two logs sticking out of it. A faint whimpering sound echoed up from the stream. George strained his eyes and realised that the bundle he assumed was rubbish was actually a boy, who was crying for help... *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, audio editing, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton.Become a ‘Patreon Producer’ and get exclusive access to Season 1, early ad-free access to episodes, and your name in the podcast credits. S5 Ep 23REPLAY - Unsolved / Lee Boxell

E

It was a typical room for a teenage boy in the 1980s; football programmes on his desk with his homework, a well-used Amstrad HI-FI system with a tape cassette and radio, used to record the top chart hits on a Sunday, hitting the pause button before the DJ fades back in. Posters of his favourite musical acts covered the walls; Mel and Kim, T'Pau, Madonna, Samantha Fox — standard fare in 1988. His single bed, pushed against the wall of his cosy room, with his black pyjama bottoms tucked neatly under his pillow to wear the next night, but there would not be a next night…THIS EPISODE WAS PUBLISHED IN ITS ORIGINAL FORM ON DECEMBER 2nd, 2020. *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Rosanna Fitton. Script editing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, audio editing, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton.Become a ‘Patreon Producer’ and get exclusive access to Season 1, early ad-free access to episodes, and your name in the podcast credits. Emergency responders arrived within minutes and approached the two-bedroom cottage. Joanne was waiting for them at the door, before leading them upstairs to her grandmother's bedroom. The paramedics pulled back the quilt and found the frail pensioner lying on bloody sheets. Blood spatter covered the walls near the bed. S8 Ep 35The Killer Next Door / Sheila Attwood / Horace Carter

E

The summer flowers were in full bloom when Edith Ford and her teenage daughter Doreen strolled to the bottom of the long and narrow communal garden to pick a bouquet of wildflowers. Their eyes were drawn away from the plants and foliage, towards the ground. Two tiny bare legs protruded from the other side of a hedge near a public works yard. Was this the child so many people had spent the night looking for? Just two doors down from Edith Ford’s home, neighbours heard screaming. Edith was wailing, “I can't have seen it. Women in southwest London lived in terror after a string of sex attacks on lone commuters travelling from Waterloo to Kingston. The police were desperately trying to locate a man believed to be responsible for half a dozen rapes over a three-month period in late 1988. Just days before Christmas, it seemed the rapist had crossed another line: he was now a murderer…*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane.Edited by Joel Porter at Dot Dot Dot Productions.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, editing assistance, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton.Become a ‘Patreon Producer’ and get exclusive access to Season 1, early ad-free access to episodes, and your name in the podcast credits. S8 Ep 33Should A Sadistic Killer Ever Be Released? / The Murder Of Joanne Tulip

E

A man in his early twenties stood at the side of the road waving at the passing cars to get attention — eventually, a vehicle with two men inside parked up beside the desperate motorist. The would-be rescuers jumped out of their car and approached the man who stopped them. He opened his mouth to speak, something that he would come to regret. The smell of alcohol from his breath hit their nostrils. They knew he had been drinking, and the two police officers were going to do something about it… *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED *** Killed Women / GoFundMe: www.gofundme.com/f/help-bereaved-families-tackle-male-violence   This episode was written by Rosanna Fitton. E

PLEASE LISTEN TO ‘SEASON 8 - EPISODE 31’ FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. One of the most horrific murders in Birmingham’s history occurred two days before Christmas in 1959. During the seven weeks that followed, hundreds of officers interviewed thousands of men in what was then the most extensive murder inquiry the city had ever seen. S8 Ep 29Seduction, Theft & Murder / The Killing Of Joan Beddeson

E

The latter years of a person’s life unfortunately involve making arrangements for when they die. These arrangements typically include organising their finances, writing a will, and planning a funeral. Thankfully, services exist that can assist in these situations, but as is often the case during this time, a vulnerable person can be susceptible to being exploited. Some people are willing to prey on the elderly in order to better their own situation, and some will go even further than taking money… *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, editing, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton. To get early ad-free access, including Season 1, sign up for They Walk Among PLUS, available from Patreon or Apple Podcasts.More information and episode references can be found on our website https://theywalkamonguspodcast.comMUSIC: Corners by ShimmerQuiet Desperation Part 2 by JCarKindness by Outside The SkyAurora by FeatherlandWest by ShimmerAware by ShimmerIntrospection by ShimmerSOCIAL MEDIA: X - https://twitter.com/TWAU_PodcastFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/theywalkamonguspodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/theywalkamonguspodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus. In February 1974, a two-and-a-half-year-old went missing. For four hours, dozens of police officers and relatives of the toddler searched the area. His older brother had been looking after him while they were out playing but came home not knowing where his sibling was. The youngster was eventually found, peacefully asleep in the long grass a short distance from his home. It was an incredible relief for his worried family. Unfortunately, this happy ending wouldn’t be granted in the case of another boy who went missing around 40 miles away, a day earlier… *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane.Edited by Joel Porter at Dot Dot Dot Productions.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, editing assistance, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton. To get early ad-free access, including Season 1, sign up for They Walk Among PLUS, available from Patreon or Apple Podcasts.More information and episode references can be found on our website https://theywalkamonguspodcast.comMUSIC: Her Majesty by Moments Reconciliation by Wicked Cinema Dead Ends by Wicked Cinema St Mary by Chelsea McGough And Stephen Keech Sussex by Stephen Keech Invisible Line by Stephen Keech A Morning Prayer by Hill Strangers by Craig Allen Fravel Wolgrim by Cody Martin Bamburgh by Stephen Keech SOCIAL MEDIA: X - https://twitter.com/TWAU_PodcastFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/theywalkamonguspodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/theywalkamonguspodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus. S8 Ep 23A Shooting In Furneux Pelham / Colonel Riley Workman

E

The television series ‘Midsomer Murders’ has been on-air since 1997. In a fictional rural setting, each episode of the British crime drama sees an individual harbour dark secrets as part of the ongoing whodunnit murder mystery. In a curious twist of life imitating art, the picturesque village of Furneux Pelham in Hertfordshire became an unwitting backdrop for a real-life murder mystery in 2004. An elderly man had been found dead on the front doorstep of his Grade II listed cottage. News outlets dispatched reporters to Furneux Pelham, and the media began to draw parallels between the murder and the fictional television series. As time passed and the crime went unsolved, life in Furneux Pelham slowly returned to normal. However, sometime later, a jailhouse confession would thrust the village back into the spotlight…*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Emily G. S8 Ep 21Dark Secret Of A Normal Family Man / The Murder Of Colette Aram - Part 2

E

PLEASE LISTEN TO ‘SEASON 8 - EPISODE 20’ FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. After the public release of a letter that was thought to be written by Colette Aram’s killer, the investigation seemed to slow down. Christmas was approaching, but Colette's family had no reason to celebrate. They decided to forgo the usual decorations — no Christmas tree, no tinsel, no presents. Colette's mother, Jacqui, expressed the sad reality of losing a child, "There is no joy in our house now, only a deathly silence"… (Part 2 of 2).*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Emily G. Advancements in technology and home security have allowed people to feel safer than ever in their homes. CCTV systems are more accessible, and mobile phone apps can be used to receive alerts within seconds regarding movement outside a property. Generally, these notifications are triggered by a delivery driver or a welcomed guest, but sometimes that visitor has bad intentions. Home security systems can assist users to raise the alarm. S8 Ep 13Double Jeopardy / Jacqui Montgomery / Dennis McGrory

E

Double jeopardy is a legal principle that somebody cannot go on trial for the same crime more than once. The rule, over 800 years old, was put in place to protect the innocent against judicial misconduct that could see them convicted, even after being found not guilty. A pivotal shift occurred twenty years ago, with the UK's double jeopardy law undergoing a significant transformation through the Criminal Justice Act 2003. This introduced substantial reforms, particularly for serious crimes. The amendment allowed the possibility of retrial for someone previously acquitted, if "new and compelling" evidence surfaced…*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Emily G. A couple living on a farm in Kempsey, Worcestershire, had been having issues with their septic tank for some time. Two maintenance companies had been employed to fix the problem, but frustratingly, it was still blocked. On July 12th, 2019, a third company sent out a worker to drain the septic tank on the 500-acre farm. While emptying the tank, the pipe suddenly became blocked. When the worker cleared the obstruction, he discovered a mass of human hair was causing the problem. In 1952, Cardiff was a bustling industrial hub, a Welsh city that was in the midst of post-war construction. Cardiff docks were the main economic driver, and they welcomed ships from all across the globe, trading goods and raw materials. This trade led to the city quickly becoming a hub of multiculturalism. In particular, it became home to many Somali sailors who had sought new pastures. Saturday, April 18th, 1998. In the early hours of the morning, two police officers were dispatched to the scene of a disturbance at a car park near Dolphin Square and Oxford Street in Weston-Super-Mare. PC Clive Golding-Ellis and PC Robert Deville were expecting a standard weekend drunken brawl. They saw something much different and considerably more disturbing. A woman was lying on the ground; her skin blistered and distorted with extensive burns that covered her head and upper body. As the officers urgently called for an ambulance, they spoke to a man standing nearby, drinking from a can of lager. He was drunk and told the officers, "I tried to put her out. The flames kept going back again”…*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane.Edited by Joel Porter at Dot Dot Dot Productions.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, editing assistance, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton. To get early ad-free access, including Season 1, sign up for They Walk Among PLUS, available from Patreon or Apple Podcasts.Listen to our companion podcast ‘They Walk Among America' here: https://play.acast.com/s/they-walk-among-americaMore information and episode references can be found on our website https://theywalkamonguspodcast.comMUSIC: Beyond all Time by Moments. Fight or Flight by Yerself Hold This Place by Alice In Winter Distances by Salon Dijon Onward by Chelsea McGough Memoir by Lincoln Davis Recognize by Grant Borland Undercover by Cody Martin Honour Earned by Cody Martin Bamburgh by Stephen Keech They Walk Among Us is part of the Acast Creator Network - https://www.acast.com/theywalkamongusSOCIAL MEDIA: X - https://twitter.com/TWAU_PodcastFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/theywalkamonguspodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/theywalkamonguspodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus. As time progressed, DNA testing methods evolved, becoming increasingly sophisticated and refined. Cold cases that had remained unsolved for decades were revisited periodically, with renewed hope that advanced forensic analysis could crack the case. Ep 34Victorian Artist & Killer / Richard Dadd

bonusE

The Victorian era was an interesting time of development — advancements in machinery and modern medicine must have seemed like a new world. That said, it was also a time of great social inequality and hardship. Art was used to start a dialogue on the social issues that plagued Britain, and the period gave rise to some of the most notable artists and writers in history. While many artists were seen as eccentric characters, it was well-known that eccentricity lends itself to a creative mind. It was also well-known that a fine line existed between an extraordinary mind and a troubled one. As Aristotle once said, “There is no great genius without some touch of madness.”*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***   This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane. Edited by Joel Porter at Dot Dot Dot Productions.Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna FittonNarration, editing assistance, additional writing, and production direction by Benjamin Fitton. To get early ad-free access, including Season 1, sign up for They Walk Among PLUS, available from Patreon or Apple Podcasts.Listen to our companion podcast ‘They Walk Among America' here: https://play.acast.com/s/they-walk-among-americaMore information and episode references can be found on our website https://theywalkamonguspodcast.comMUSIC: Time Cannot Take Our Love by Joshua Spacht Rag Doll by Wicked Cinema Crooked Man by Wicked Cinema St Mary by Chelsea McGough And Stephen Keech Garden by Grant Borland Wolgrim by Cody Martin Etheria by Cody Martin They Walk Among Us is part of the Acast Creator Network - https://www.acast.com/theywalkamongusSOCIAL MEDIA: Twitter - https://twitter.com/TWAU_PodcastFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/theywalkamonguspodcastInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/theywalkamonguspodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus.
