Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Think about Hardy. Think about Trollope. On January 4, you will tell me what you have read and I will test you on it. I will test you, and if I think you are lying to me, you will suffer. I will be watching you, Ben John, every step of the way. PLEASE LISTEN TO ‘SEASON 6 - EPISODE 37’ FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. Donald Hume was charged with the murder of Stanley Setty. It was puzzling, to say the least. Following a tip-off, officers from the Nottinghamshire Constabulary were dispatched to an address on Blenheim Close. Located in Forest Town, a former mining village in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, the brick-built semi-detached two-storey home sits on the corner of a quiet cul-de-sac close to public walkways and green grassland. On that autumn day in 2013, officers slowly filtered through the backdoor into the garden… (Part 1 of 2).*** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED *** This episode was researched and written by Benjamin Fitton. Narration, audio editing and production direction also by Benjamin Fitton. We all want to believe that we are good judges of character; that if someone close to us was a bad person, we would know. But how well do you know your neighbors? How much can you trust those around you? What does a killer look like? Monsters don’t live under the bed; they walk among us.  From the award-winning team behind the UK true crime podcast — They Walk Among Us — They Walk Among America provides a unique and in-depth account of some of the most puzzling and polarizing cases from the United States. With extensive research and immersive audio, They Walk Among America is a storytelling-style podcast that delves deeper into the cases that have horrified and captivated the public.  Hosted by Nina Innsted and produced in association with the Law & Crime podcast network. For more information, visit https://lawandcrime.com/podcasts/ or https://theywalkamonguspodcast.com/ Make sure to follow the show on your preferred podcast player: Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/they-walk-among-america/id1585879757Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/3dZDE1V7kaKq3TuZVoO6li?dl_branch=1&si=s4ENiLclR0ugpVatOWD1IgAcast - https://play.acast.com/s/they-walk-among-americaAudible - https://www.audible.co.uk/pd?asin=B08K5Z3DNR&source_code=ASSORAP0511160006Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/theywalkamongus. Proving once again that true crime is not just a modern fascination, a crowd had amassed early at 4 am on that winter morning of December 6, 1922, desperate to witness the trial. Members of the public pushed and prodded as they fought to get in. Every spectator was hopeful of gaining a ringside seat in the courtroom. Some people paid for the privilege, handing over large sums of cash, which would be £250 in today's money… *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED *** This episode was researched and written by Rosanna Fitton. Illustrations and production direction also by Rosanna Fitton. PLEASE LISTEN TO ‘SEASON 6 - EPISODE 9’ FOR PART ONE OF THIS TWO-PART CASE. Patrick Mackay was arrested in March 1975. He was suspected of murdering Isabella Griffiths, Adele Price and Father Anthony Crean. But while he was being held on remand in Brixton prison, Mackay told a fellow inmate he was locked up for murdering 11 people. He repeated this story to anyone that would listen including inquiring officers. Perhaps it was just a boastful claim. However, it was curious considering Mackay was awaiting trial for three murders. Who were these other victims? One of the men reached into his pocket to get out the money to pay. He pawed at a wedge of £10 notes. The cashier noticed a large gold ring on one of his fingers and saw what she thought was blood above his knuckles. Maybe he had been fighting? The cashier then glanced up. There was no break in their polite conversation. On Tuesday, November 21, 1995, after two days of deliberation, the jury had finally made some progress on the murder charges they were considering. There were 10 in all, but so far, jurors were only able to reach verdicts for 2 of them. The accused, Rose West, stood in the dock. Tears hung heavy in her eyes.
