S1 Ep 601603 Feel Your Heart with Twitch Boss
AT THE END OF THE DAY LOVE IS WHAT MAKES THIS WHOLE THING HAPPEN. One thing I've learned over the years is that you really do need to follow your heart. Do what feels good for you and ignore the people who are putting you down for it. Don't listen to the naysayers because they don't understand your passions. If you feel yourself being pulled to something, and excitement fills you when you do it, then follow that path. You'll be surprised at how fast, when you make it, the people who put you down become your ultimate supporters. For this episode of 5 Minute Friday I wanted to bring you back this inspirational clip from a previous episode with Stephen tWitch Boss. You probably remember tWitch as being a fan favorite on So You Think You Can Dance and the DJ on The Ellen Show. Learn the importance of following your heart and how to bypass the naysayers on Episode 603. In This Episode You Will Learn: What you need to do in life. (1:16) Who you should and shouldn't listen to (1:50) How to win over your naysayers (2:17) The concept people struggle with the most (2:28) How you know if you have what it takes to make it (3:16) What makes things happen (3:40) Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 600602 Philip Levine: Winning Elections and Disrupting the Status Quo
THE SPEED OF THE LEADER DETERMINES THE RATE OF THE PACK. Philip is now running for Governor with a progressive vision to move Florida forward as a leader in the 21st century economy. He wants to revitalize the economy, envisioning a Florida with better-paying jobs, more competitive public schools, and an entrepreneurial approach to protecting our environment. In the past, he funded his own campaign, refusing money from special interests, and easily won re-election to two terms with a majority of the vote. On this episode we had a really amazing conversation. Before he was ever in public office, Philip was an entrepreneur, creating multiple companies and scaling them to great success. He let me in on some incredible information a lot of people don't know about him, including how he gave back to one of the most influential people from his childhood. Philip goes into detail on how he led a successful election campaign, the lesson he learned from Bill Clinton, and how you can become a better communicator. If you want to hear how you can be a better entrepreneur and better humanitarian at the same time then you need to listen to Episode 602. Some Questions I Ask: What made you want to transition from entrepreneur to mayor? (6:50) How do you enroll people in a single company that's going to be gone a year later? (10:20) When did you first connect with Bill Clinton? (14:55) What's something Clinton isn't notorious for that makes him different? (19:28) Who was your greatest teacher growing up? (26:32) What's the biggest lesson your mother taught you? (28:52) Do you think everyone should serve in public office at some point? (33:47) What's an entrepreneurial approach to helping our environment? (38:04) What's the biggest challenge that you've had to overcome? S1 Ep 599601 Guy Winch: How to Heal a Broken Heart
We need to think about feelings and how we respond to them as something we have control over. I have had a lot of injuries in my life. I've even had a physical injury that destroyed my sports career. Honestly, that was nothing compared to some of the emotional injuries I've been through. We all tend to neglect our emotional injuries. We push them off and consider ourselves as wimps or over-emotional. In reality, these injuries are extreme. They need to be cared for like any broken bone. If we continue to ignore our heartbreaks, that pain will never heal. It will carry with us for years, or even decades. On this episode of The School of Greatness I'm joined again by the amazing psychologist, Guy Winch, to discuss emotional pain -- whether it's from a break up, the loss of a loved one, or any other negative feelings that may be holding you back in life. Dr. Guy Winch, is a licensed psychologist, author, and in-demand keynote speaker whose books have been translated into twenty-four languages. Dr. Winch's viral TED Talk, Why We All Need to Practice Emotional First Aid, has been viewed over 5 million times and is rated among the top 5 most inspiring talks of all time on TED.com. His upcoming book, How to Fix a Broken Heart, just came out and that's what we dove into in this episode. Previously on the show (way back in year 1), we talked about the idea of "emotional first aid" and how important it is for us to learn how to heal our emotional injuries just like we do our physical ones. However, as Guy pointed out, heartbreak is a special kind of emotional pain and there are certain behaviors that support us in healing from this (and many that don't.) Learn how to understand yourself and your friends in heartbreak, and heal the healthy way, on Episode 601. Some Questions I Ask: How do we communicate with someone who has a broken heart? (7:02) Should we feel embarrassed for grieving? (12:32) What are examples of some things people do with feelings thare ok, or that they shouldn't be doing? (14:21) What are thoughts we should be having after a heartbreak? (18:30) What's the best approach to process the feelings? (25:36) What's the best way for friends to reach out to someone going through a heartbreak? (31:08) What's the longest it took you to get over a romantic relationship? (40:15) What's the biggest lesson you've learned about yourself from 20 years of psychology? (43:10) What do you think is holding you back from doing what you want to do faster? (47:03) Has there ever been a challenge someone brought to you that you didn't feel like you could find a solution for? (52:00) In This Episode You Will Learn: What happens if you don't process your heartbreak (10:36) The stupid feelings Dr. Winch has (13:02) The time frame for when someone should be able to get back to a normal life after a heartbreak (16:32) The best process for when you breakup with someone (21:42) Which is harder to recover from, an emotion or a physical injury (27:34) A serious heartbreak that took Dr. Winch a long time to recover from (35:45) What's the greatest part about being a psychologist for Dr Winch (41:32) The greatest challenge Dr. Winch faces in his life right now (44:34) A common theme he's learned about people (49:00) And much, much more Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 597599 Nina Dobrev: The Balance of Acting, Advocacy, and Using Your Voice
Other people won't make me happy, it has to be from within me. - Nina Dobrev One of the things that even I struggle with is being complacent. It's easy for all of us to feel comfortable where we are in life and settle for what we have. In fact, it can be scary to try to push things even further. Breaking out of that comfort zone and continuing to grow is the difference between being average and being great. Anytime you feel comfortable, that means you're not challenging yourself and it's time to make a shift. Maybe you need a new job or just to find ways to push yourself further. On this episode of The School of Greatness, we are joined by an inspirational and amazing actress, Nina Dobrev. She's spent her whole life pushing the boundaries and keeps challenging herself any chance she can. You probably know Nina from the hit show The Vampire Diaries. Nina was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She moved to Canada at the age of two and has lived in Toronto, Ontario ever since. From a very young age, she showed great enthusiasm and talent for the arts: Dance, Gymnastics, Theatre, Music, Visual arts, and Acting! Modeling jobs led to commercials, which then turned into film auditions. Shortly after, she booked roles in the feature films Fugitive Pieces, Away from Her and the popular television series, Degrassi: The Next Generation. We've become good friends over the past couple of years, and I'm constantly impressed by how Nina decides to push herself. Through all of her work, acting is her passion, and she sees it as an adventure that has just begun; she believes that the journey and the characters we create along the way will help us understand ourselves. Discover all of that and much more, on Episode 590. Some Questions I Ask: Why did you get behind the #TimesUp movement? (8:20) What can people do to stop the abuse? (12:48) Did you have a hunger to work hard at an early age? (22:40) Do you feel like you were good to everyone on your way up? (26:55) What is the biggest insecurity you've overcome in your ‘20s? (28:10) Did you see yourself being a star? (30:57) When Vampire Diaries happened did you expect it to be a success? (40:20) What do you enjoy more, being a character telling the stories or directing the stories? (44:38) What's a story you want to tell that hasn't been told? S1 Ep 595597 Raise Your Voice with Sekou Andrews
YOU ARE STILL YOUR MOST IMPORTANT AUDIENCE MEMBER - SEKOU ANDREWS I truly believe that one of the most important things we have in this world is our voice. All of us need to speak up without fear, without apologizing, and show the world we care. When I say voice, that doesn't mean your literal voice. For some people, it may be their art, their designs, the technology they develop. Everything you give to this world is a part of your voice. That's one of the reasons I decided to go back and bring you this past episode with Sekou Andrews. Sekou is an incredible spoken word poet who has performed in front of huge audiences. In this clip, he shares a very powerful and inspirational spoken word poem about using our voices for good. I invite you to getting your voice out into the world with pride, on Episode 597. S1 Ep 594596 Tererai Trent: Awaken to Your Full Potential and Achieve the Impossible
"I REALIZED THE PATHWAY I WAS GOING THROUGH WAS SILENCING ME. I've learned that greatness can come from anywhere, everywhere, or anyone. It all starts with a dream, a vision. Of course one of the secrets is never giving up, but the biggest one is that it needs to be yours. You need to know that your goals are your goals, not something pushed on you by someone else. No matter where you are in your life, or what obstacles appear in your way, you can achieve it. I believe this now more than ever after sitting down with our most recent guest, Tererai Trent. Tererai was born in Zimbabwe, was forced into marriage as a child, and even gave birth to 4 children by the time she was 18. She came from a place where education wasn't an opportunity given to women. Tererai ended up pushing through so many obstacles and now had a PhD - and that's just the beginning of her incredible accomplishments. Tererai was named by Oprah as her All-Time Favorite Guest and received a $1.5 million donation to rebuild her childhood elementary school in recognition of her tenacity and never-give-up attitude. With the firm belief that education is the pathway out of poverty and a desire to give back to her community, she founded Tererai Trent International. Eleven schools are being built in Zimbabwe and education has been improved for over 5,000 children so far. And this is only the beginning. Today, Dr. Trent is invited to speak all over the world, to share her remarkable story and the valuable lessons she has learned along the way. She just came out with a new book all about empowering women to awaken to their full potential (she is the poster child of this). Her favorite motto is Tinogona, meaning, It is achievable! Discover all of that and much more, on Episode 596. Some Questions I ask: What interested you in agriculture? (16:15) What made you bring your 5 children and your abusive husband to America? (17:20) What was it like when you met the same woman who inspired you 14 years later? (26:26) Do boys have more access to education around the world? (36:10) What's your message to girls from privileged and non-privileged parts of the world? (40:36) How can anyone make an impact in the world? (42:43) What is available for a woman who is not sexually happy with herself? (46:05) What advice do you have for men to support the women in their lives? (48:15) What's your vision now? Have you planted new dreams? (50:00) In this episode you will learn: What it's like to be a young mother in Kenya (and mother of 4 by 18) (7:43) The struggles of raising kids in while going to school (21:18) The thoughts that helped Tererai find her greatness (23:12) How Tererai funded her dreams (30:09) How writing down her dreams helped her achieve them (37:28) The ways women have been silenced (44:40) A ritual someone can do to rekindle the fire within themselves (47:18) What makes Tererai whole (54:32) Plus much more... S1 Ep 593595 Gary Vaynerchuk: Insecurity, Fame, and Crushing It in Business
NO ENTREPRENEUR CAN BE SUCCESSFUL WITH SOMEONE WHO ISN'T INDEPENDENT As you know, it's important to continually grow (especially if you're an entrepreneur). I'm not excluded from that. Ten years ago I read a book by Gary Vaynerchuk that changed the course of my life. On this episode of the School of Greatness, Gary returns to the show for his third time. He gives me advice for my next ten years but also gives you invaluable advice on so many topics that you won't hear anywhere else. Gary is known for his unapologetic truth-telling attitude. He says a lot of things on social media that people may feel are harsh or extreme. But when we were talking, Gary revealed he actually cares deeply about what people think about him. And that's why he's so committed to serving people with hard-earned business wisdom in the long run. He explains why teenage nerds are winning right now, how hitting the big lists isn't what matters in business, and why you need an independent person in a romantic relationship. If you aren't familiar with Gary, you're missing out. Gary is a serial entrepreneur and the CEO and co-founder of VaynerMedia, a full-service digital agency servicing Fortune 500 clients. Gary rose to prominence in the late 90's after establishing one of the first e-commerce wine sites, WineLibrary, helping his father grow the family business from 4 to 60MM in sales. Gary is also one of the most sought-after public speakers alive today. He is a venture capitalist, 4-time New York Times bestselling author, and an early investor in companies such as Twitter, Tumblr, Venmo, and Uber. You'll learn everything you need to know about how to become the best of the best, on Episode 595. Some questions I ask: How are you affected emotionally when you see yourself aging? (9:32) Did business get better for you when you got married and started having kids? (16:52) When you started having kids did your obsession for business stay the same? (22:31) Why are you doing things you don't like when you have options not to? (24:51) When are the moments that you doubt yourself the most? (26:09) What's your insecurity? (33:45) What do you think you need to take you to the next level? (38:00) What advice would you have for me over the next 10 years? (51:52) In the episode you will learn: The results you should be concentrating on in business (14:02) The biggest challenge Gary's faced since starting Vayner (23:13) Best way to actually build your Instagram following (30:21) Why Gary hates being disliked (34:20) When relationships are really made (42:41) Plus much more... "If you don’t try hard enough at something, people could knock you down for it.” I recently had a friend tell me I needed to do an interview with someone special. I’m always hesitant on suggestions, but my friend has done thousands of interviews and he said in his top five was Danica Patrick. I felt I had to give her a shot and I’m so glad I did. She and I are on the same wavelength. We’re both into sports, consider ourselves to be spiritual people, and believe so much in the power of the mind. Danica has a strong presence you can feel the moment she walks into the room and yet she is still one of the sweetest and most thought-provoking people I’ve met. She’s had so many insightful things to say. For those of you who don’t know her, Danica Patrick dropped out of high school to pursue a career as a race car driver. She was also featured in the 2008 and 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She has appeared in 14 Super Bowl commercials (more than any other celebrity). "If the last day of my life came, and people were sitting around me, I would say ‘Smile, because I made it to the other side.’” - Ray Lewis I constantly think about the fact that the only definite thing in this world is what we leave behind. Money comes and goes, belongings eventually break or get thrown out, but what people say about you will never change. This got me thinking about an amazing episode I did with Ray Lewis. Ray has been leaving a legacy not just in football, but to the world. On this 5 Minute Friday, we hear some of the most inspirational words about how anyone can leave a legacy and fulfilled life behind when they go on Episode 591. Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 587589 My Success Habits, Rituals and Morning Routine
HOW YOU START AND END YOUR DAY MATTERS. I get a lot of questions from listeners about what my morning routine, daily habits and nighttime routines look like. So I decided it was time to record a solo episode answering this exact question so that anyone who asks can get a quick answer :) The truth is, I believe that healthy, consistent routines make a massive difference in our daily performance and our long term health and happiness. So even though I'm not perfect at following mine every day, I know what a big impact it makes when I do. Keep in mind that these are just my routines. I've developed them over years of trial and error. Some I got from playing sports, some from studying optimal health, some from going to meditation training, and some from friends. They all serve me, but what I hope you do after listening to this episode is choose habits that serve YOU. Habits are only as useful as the results we get from them, so I invite you to experiment with your own habits until you find ones that work. Here are my favorite ones in Episode 589. In this episode you will learn: What time I wake up (5:45) How I start my day (6:15) Why I make my bed every morning (9:15) How exercise cleanses us (10:08) My morning meditation ritual (12:22) My bedtime routine (17:21) How I prep for a big event or interview (22:34) Plus much more... S1 Ep 586588 Choose What Lights You Up with Scooter Braun
"WHAT’S THE POINT OF GOING AFTER ANYTHING THAT'S REASONABLE? THAT’S NOT GRATIFYING.” I used to believe that money was the answer to happiness. When you spend all of your time chasing the dollar, it bring you emptiness. The real reason to chase after money is so you can have the freedom you need to experience life’s beautiful moment. Chasing the endless dollar is just as bad as being stuck in a cubicle all day. Money is great, but you have to use it to achieve your higher purpose and do the things that actually bring you happiness. This got me thinking about a past episode I did with Scooter Braun, who gave amazing insights to what wealth really means and how to achieve true happiness. Discover what exactly it takes to have wealth in all aspects of life, on Episode 588. In this episode you will learn: The mentality you need to have about money (00:51) How you really achieve happiness (2:12) What you are really working hard for (3:03) Your chances of being super successful (4:36) What you need to do to be in the top 1% (6:25) Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 585587 Coffee Conversations: Ultimate Sports Strategies for Time Management
"PLAN YOUR PLAY." We live streamed this episode of Coffee Conversations straight to YouTube -- and some of you sent us questions while we filmed! It was awesome and we'll do more of these live episodes if you like them. While Cesar and I were taking questions from you guys on social media, we kept discussing the same main theme. It's something that has made the biggest difference in our business year after year. It's the strategy we set up to manage our time throughout the year so that we can accomplish huge goals consistently. The truth is, it's based on what we learned in sports. The lessons we learned from football still keep us grounded and productive years later. As we answered your questions, we kept coming back to how much this strategic mindset supports us when we set huge goals, get through slumps, stay positive, and more. We realize that the more we choose to live and work in a disciplined, focused way, with plenty of play built in, the better we do all around. Let us know your thoughts on this episode and the live stream after you listen to Episode 587. In this episode you will learn: How we come up with a strategy to accomplish all our big goals for the year (5:10) Why taking breaks to play is so important (14:30) How to make your personal project grow when your time is consumed by your day job (17:48) Strategies for staying positive and keeping others positive (19:28) Tips we've both learned for improving conversational skills (26:58) What to do if you're scared of stepping into your greatness (33:30) How much flexibility I plan into my schedule (39:30) Plus much more... S1 Ep 584586 The Keys to Persuasion and Powerful Self - Confidence with Ed Mylett
"THINGS HAPPEN FOR YOU, NOT TO YOU.” As you know my biggest goal is to serve you. I really dedicate every day to trying to help as many people as I can. When I get on a stage I try to speak to each individual person in the crowd. I try to reach out to every member of the audience and truly help them. I want them to take action, and leave with the tools they need to change their life. I’ve been fortunate enough to become friends with an amazing speaker that is of the same mindset - Ed Mylett. If you haven’t heard of Ed before, you’ve been missing out. “People respond to what they feel, not what they hear and see.” Ed started out with the dream of playing professional baseball. But like so many of us, an injury changed his course in life. Instead, his first job out of college was helping boys at a foster home who came from abused families. It’s here he found is life mission: to serve. He saw in the eyes of these boys that they just wanted what everyone wants - to be loved and appreciated. This ended up taking him down the road of servitude later in life. Today, Ed is one of the premier business leaders, peak performance experts, and motivational speakers in the world. He has a passion for mentoring and coaching others on what it takes to become a champion in all areas of life. He has shared the stage and has very close personal relationships with other business legends such as Tony Robbins, John Maxwell, Phil Knight and many others. Hear his insights on life, public speaking, and so much more on Episode 586. “The most important gift we can give someone is to be present” Some Questions I Ask: You wanted to be a professional baseball player, right? S1 Ep 583585 Think Like a Billionaire with Dean Graziosi
"SUCCESS IS EASIER THAN PEOPLE THINK." I used to think that being a billionaire meant you had to be super smart, super cool, or even superhuman. None of these things are true. If you want to be a billionaire you have to be passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated. That’s all. When you persevere past the point when most people give up, you’ll find that there’s not much competition at the top. Sometimes what holds you back, and has even held me back in the past, are your thoughts. Your insecurities and negativity are just that: thoughts. To dive more into this, I am bringing out a previous episode with Dean Graziosi. Dean is a NY Times bestselling author, THE top real estate trainer, and an incredible author and speaker. He knows what it takes to reach our full potential. And it’s something anyone can do. Learn how you can make simple shifts to reach the top on Episode 585. "WITHOUT YOU THE WORLD WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME." The new year is here, and I am so excited. You know how important I think creating a clear vision for your life is. So I wanted to record this solo round at the start of this year to share my top tips for creating an incredible year. And you guessed it, it starts with creating a clear vision. I broke down the 8 areas of life that I believe are the most important ones to have a vision for. S1 Ep 581583 Build a Billion Dollar Brand with Revolve Co-Founder Michael Mente
"IT’S ALL ABOUT SHOWING PEOPLE A GENUINELY GOOD TIME." Being an entrepreneur is one of the most difficult tasks you can take on. In fact, some people find it soul crushing if not done right. When done properly, though, it can be the greatest thing you can do in your life. Starting as an entrepreneur means knowing what you really want to do, what your passion is and how to deliver that to consumers. It’s not about pushing it on them but listening to them and seeing how you can serve them. Most entrepreneurs stop as soon as they hit success and sell off their company, but not all of them. On this episode, we are joined by Michael Mente, who has been successful since 2003 when he helped create the incredibly popular clothing company: REVOLVE. “All we are doing is listening to the consumer and giving them what they want.” Michael Mente dropped out of an Entrepreneur program at the University of Southern California to become an entrepreneur by profession. He’s Currently the CEO and Co-Founder of Revolve and is set to bring in $400 million in sales this year. His company is considered the one-stop shop for clothing items designed by some of the hottest emerging designers. Over the years, Michael began developing organic relationships with bloggers to represent the brand on a more realistic level. To do so, Revolve regularly holds trips for influencers to gather, relax, and recreate the lifestyle of an ideal Revolve customer. Michael saw a gap between affordable and high end items, which provided grounds for him to create an online shopping experience that falls in the middle. Supporting up-and-coming designers and digital influencers has become the core of Revolve’s growth and they decided to expand their digital offerings by launching a sister company, FORWARD, in 2008. Since then FORWARD has grown to become a powerhouse in fashion and has become the go-to place for premier luxury fashion. I loved Michael's humble wisdom about what it has taken to create this kind of success in such a competitive industry. Discover all of that and much more, on Episode 583. "If it’s not enjoyable, what’s the point?” Some Questions I Ask: Would you say a lot of your sales come from Instagram? (10:46) In the beginning were you buying clothes wholesale? (13:41) What were you doing before REVOLVE? (15:40) What would you say is your biggest inspiration right now? (18:12) When did you realize you had a business that would take off? (21:38) How much money did you raise from one investor? (24:54) Do you think more people should be tapping into influencers for their brand? (28:41) What’s a good way to start approaching influencer marketers and celebrities? (36:54) How do you deal with the competition of other brands? "Our first impressions are always made non-verbally” One of my favorite guests I’ve had on this show is Jordan Harbinger, from The Art of Charm. S1 Ep 579581 Gabrielle Bernstein: The Judgment Detox
"JUDGMENT COMES FROM THE MOMENT OF SEPARATION.” One thing I’ve always struggled with in life is feeling like I was being judged. I was afraid of what people would think of me, and I felt I had an image I needed to keep up. I’m sure you can relate. I discovered that this was caused more by judgment of myself. I was judging everything I did right, and everything I did wrong. Anything I did wrong I would beat myself up for. One thing I’ve been working on is letting go of judgment. I try to observe when it’s there, and not have any emotional attachment to it. It’s amazing how much the world can change when judgment isn’t in the picture. "Judgment is toxic and holds us back from living our lives.” On this episode of The School of Greatness we are joined by Gabrielle Bernstein. Gabby is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Universe Has Your Back, and has written five additional bestsellers! She was featured on Oprah’s SuperSoul Sunday as a “next-generation thought leader,” and The New York Times named her “a new role model.” She appears regularly as an expert on The Dr. Oz Show and co-hosted the Guinness World Record largest guided meditation with Deepak Chopra. Gabrielle is a certified Kundalini yoga and meditation teacher. She is also trained in the Emotional Freedom Technique and she’s a student of Transcendental Meditation, as taught by the David Lynch Foundation. YouTube chose Gabrielle as one of its 16 YouTube Next Video Bloggers. Mashable included her in its list of 11 Must-Follow Twitter Accounts for Inspiration. Forbes called her one of the 20 Best-Branded Women. Gabby is here to talk about her newest book, Judgment Detox, Release the beliefs that hold you back from living a better life, that is being released in January 2018. She gives amazing insights on how to control the feeling of judgment and find inner peace and respect for yourself on Episode 581. "Forgiveness isn’t something we have to go figure out.” Some Questions I Ask: Why did you write judgment detox? (5:05) What was judgment doing to you? (6:23) Do you feel like you were more judgmental of yourself or others? (9:54) When did you realize you were so judgmental? (10:41) What’s worse, judging others or judging yourself? S1 Ep 578580 How to Set Boundaries to Build Thriving Relationships with Chris Lee
“CREATING BOUNDARIES IS NOT ABOUT CREATING A WALL, IT'S CREATING AN AGREEMENT.” There’s a lot going on in this world lately, with relationships being violated. We’re seeing it daily with the #MeToo movement, and so many people in Hollywood coming forward. Problems aren’t just occurring in intimate relationships, but in business, family, friendships, and so on. Almost all of this stems from boundaries being crossed. Boundaries are something that we all need to create and stand by. But we can’t just create them, we need to communicate them. We need to make sure the people in our lives are clear about our boundaries, and express ourselves the moment that they are crossed. You are a beautiful person, and worth the best - so make sure others are aware of that. I know it’s hard, and that you probably worry about being fired or losing someone close to you. You can’t be, because that job or that relationship isn’t make you happy. Losing it will open you up to new possibilities. The worst-case scenario about expressing and honouring your barriers is that things will get better - even if it means moving on. On this episode, we are joined again by the amazing Chris Lee. Chris has been on my show more than anyone else, a total of 13 times since episode 36. Each time we have him on the air he gives amazing insights, and he has been by my side through some amazing transformations. He’s helped me come out about my past, and build better and stronger relationships in all aspects of my live. Chris is a man on a mission committed to transforming the world one heart at a time. Chris Lee has spent over 25 years of his life transforming the lives of thousands of people worldwide through his workshops, coaching, and participation in all media, teaching people how to live an abundant prosperous life. He joins us today to give insights on how to increase yourself worth, learn to set boundaries, and how to build the most important relationship - with yourself on Episode 580. Some Questions I Ask: How do we take responsibility for the relationships we want? (12:34) What are things people can do to develop self-worth? (14:51) Should we write down our relationship goals? (19:10) What if you’re in a relationship with a bully or a decision maker? (23:34) Would you say someone who does not create boundaries is saying they don’t value their self-worth? (29:23) Why is it such a big fear for us to lose someone? (37:32) Why are we so afraid to be alone? (45:05) In This Episode You Will Learn: The importance of boundaries in a relationship (10:07) How to tell if a boundary is being crosses (12:02) Why you need a vision about your self-worth (18:28) How to make the requests you need to make (20:03) The reasons you should listen to other’s requests (23:11) The kind of relationships you should be working towards (27:00) How the environment affects self worth (31:30) Why you need to learn to forgive (41:20) Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 577579 Live in Abundance with JJ Virgin
"THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO IS START EVERY SINGLE DAY IN GRATITUDE.” Every day we limit ourselves without even realizing it. So many times, we think we are reaching for the stars, but we aren’t even reaching for the trees. On a previous episode, we were joined by JJ Virgin, who gave me some great advice on how we can all change our mindset. It all starts with looking at what we want, and thinking if it’s really big enough. Listen this episode and she breaks down simple ways you can open your mind and switch from living in a scarcity mindset to living in an abundance mindset in just a few moments, on Episode 579. S1 Ep 576578 JD Roth: The Journey of Transformation Against All Odds
"THE QUESTION YOU HAVE TO AK IS, ‘IS IT YOUR BEST?’” Today I’m joined by someone I’ve seen on television as long as I can remember. He’s been in the business longer than most people and has used his power to help everyone he meets. JD Roth is an actor, producer, and best known for his hit TV show The Biggest Loser. He fell into his passion at the age of 10, and has earned his fame through the power of transforming others. JD bases all of his decisions on passion and what story he can tell to his audience. While most people think about money or ratings, that’s one of the furthest things from his mind. He’s a unique individual who has touched and inspired each person he meets. I was blown away when I first met him at just how much he engages with everyone around. He’s sincere, listens, and appreciates everyone. We’re lucky enough to have him share his life experiences, and give insights on how you can transform yourself into a passion driven machine that lives the most fulfilling life possible, on Episode 578. S1 Ep 575577 How to Connect with Influencers, Thought Leaders and Decision Makers
"FOCUS ON INDIVIDUALS WHO REALLY INSPIRE YOU." Wrapping up this year, I'm doing an inventory of what's worked in my life and business in 2017. Similar to the last Coffee Conversations with Cesar, I wanted to go over one of the most important keys to the success I've experienced this past year. Partnerships have been a massive key to my success. The podcast has grown because of the key people I’ve met and had on the show. Some of those relationships have grown into amazing business opportunities and big win/win moments. So I wanted to do a solo round on what I've learned through the years about connecting and building powerful relationships with influencers. I haven't heard a lot of people talk about the best ways to do this -- but I have seen a lot of what doesn't work going on. So in this episode, I cut straight to the truth and get real. My intention is to shine the light on what actually does work so that you can create quality relationships. If you hear me say things you've never heard anyone else say in this, let me know! I'm always interested in your feedback. Here's the truth about building relationships with influencers the right way in Episode 577. In this episode you will learn: The 3 C’s to remind you to connect with thought leaders: Chill - Let them know what they’ve done has inspired you in some way (3:50) Curiosity - Ask thoughtful questions about the things that matter the most to them right now (5:42) Care - Be of service, give on something specific, find a way to tap into their heart (7:22) How to email someone: Research them (13:35) Find 3 points of connection (14:58) Make it about what you can do for them (17:54) What not to do: (18:37) Don’t ask for advice Don’t ask for a favor Don’t ask to pick their brain Don’t ask to work for free Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 573575 Coffee Conversations: Top 7 Takeaways from 2017
"YOU HAVE A GIFT INSIDE OF YOU, SOMETHING UNIQUE TO OFFER TO THE WORLD. NO ONE ELSE WILL BE YOU." Back by popular demand, Cesar and I sat down again this week to record a third round of what we are calling "Coffee Conversations." This was a fun one because 2017 has been an incredible year for our business, the School of Greatness brand, the podcast, and much more. I thought it would be cool to go over the top takeaways and lessons I learned this year from all the experiences I've had. I also love hearing Cesar's take on what we've done and where we are headed. A few of the things we talk about might surprise you, but most of what I learned this year is confirming things that have proved true year after year in my career as an entrepreneur. The more I think about what makes businesses continue to grow and be successful, the more I realize that when I focus, commit, and execute on what I've committed to, the results come. Even when craziness is happening all around, even when things are uncertain, even when I'm pushing myself out of my comfort zone, if I am clear on what I'm creating and commit to the process, good things still happen. I hope these takeaways serve you in some way in your own goals, business, or challenges you are taking on in 2018. I can't wait to see what we create next as you'll hear us discuss in Episode 575 with Coffee Conversations. In this episode you will learn: The biggest wins I achieved this year in my business (0:45) The Top 7 Takeaways from 2017 for me: Think bigger and take risks (5:18) Build an all-star team (12:51) Strategize, organize, systematize (18:53) Innovate with new products and approaches (23:10) Invest in your business and bet on you (29:35) Health (37:50) Do things that matter and bring you joy (41:20) Plus much more... S1 Ep 572574 Earn Your Confidence with Jason Khalipa
"You’ve gotta have something really deep inside your heart to compete in whatever you’re doing.” Many people dream of being a champion. Whether it’s in a sport or business, it takes dedication and time. My guest today, Jason Khalipa, is a man who has mastered both. He’s a CrossFit champion many times over, and opened his own successful chain of gym. He’s taken the time to push his element in all areas of life, and really take the time to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. This skill had become so much more valuable when his daughter was diagnosed with one of the scariest diseases I can think of - Leukemia. Jason paused his life has a champion to step into his most important role - being a father. With his high school sweetheart by his side he’s been helping his daughter fight the illness with health, diet, and the most important ingredient of love. Through all of this Jason has still managed to continue to grow his amazing gym business, making sure every person who walks through the doors of one of his gyms is treated with loyalty and appreciation. If you want to learn what it takes to be a champion, successful in business, and a role model family man you need to listen to Episode 574. Some Questions I ask: You married your high school sweetheart, is that right? (6:38) Does your wife help you in your business now? S1 Ep 571573 Keep Your Head Up with Andy Grammer
"IT’S A SWEET DEFIANCE TO FOLLOW YOUR PURPOSE.” Music is something that’s always been in my life. I love it. I used to sing in school, and I’m fascinated with people who pushed through the toughest times of the art to make their dreams become a reality. I had the pleasure of interviewing Andy Grammer on a past episode and there’s a lot he’s said that has stuck with me. When the universe seems like it’s telling you to stop and give up, that’s when you have to push even harder and let it know your serious. That’s exactly what Andy Grammer did. His dedication brought him from busking on the streets of Santa Monica to being a multi-platinum artist. I hope you’re as inspired by his story as I was, on Episode 573. Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 570572 Rachel Platten: Never Give Up on Your Dreams
"IT’S NOT ABOUT ME, IT'S ABOUT THE EXCHANGE OF ENERGY ON STAGE.” So many times we give up on our dreams because of deadlines we put on ourselves. There have been plenty of moments when I felt like things were taking too long or like I was getting too old. It’s those moments we need to look within and understand why we are doing it. Find our real purpose. Do you want to be an author to hit the New York Times bestseller list or because you want to have people read your work? Is it because you want your message out there or so that you can make your profile bio look great? My feeling is that your purpose should always be to serve. Serving other people brings fulfillment to yourself. Reaping the material rewards is just a bonus. Remember, you’re never too old. It’s never too late for your dreams to come true. Our guest today, Rachel Platten, didn’t reach her mega-success in music until she was 32 - when most people would have given up on their dreams. Rachel is an incredibly hard working person. She kept pushing and pursuing her dreams for over ten years before anyone noticed. She was doing small intimate gigs and performing for people in hospitals. When her hit song Fight Song came out it wasn’t an instant success. She was devastated and lost in her definition of success. She was certain it would sell millions of records and hit the charts. After reaching an all-time emotional low, feeling her only chance passed her by, she began to reflect on herself. The reason she got into making music was because she loved it for herself and she loved the connection it gave her with people. She came to the conclusion that playing hospitals and small venues was enough for her to feel happy. After that revelation, it was only a few weeks later that her song became a hit. She let go of her ego and trusted in the process. Doesn't sound like coincidence to me. Discover all of Rachel's incredible story and much more, on Episode 572. Show notes: What’s the thing you’re most grateful for and inspired by this year? (7:05) Did you always feel like you were looking for outside approval? (8:44) How did you stay dedicated to your dream for years before anything happened? (10:01) Why was music shut down in your life for a while? (17:39) Do you get nervous on stage? (18:56) Who was your greatest teacher? (20:37) Do you doubt yourself now? (22:14) How do you find confidence? (23:17) What’s been your most memorable moment on stage? (25:23) Whose opinion matters the most to you right now? (27:42) Did you work other jobs while you were starting? (34:07) How has becoming famous affected your marriage? (37:17) Who have you been jealous of most in your career? (43:43) What do you think is your highest purpose? (47:46) In this episode you will learn: Rachel’s experience performing at hospitals (10:50) What it was like to perform in front of 80,000 people in Trinidad (14:08) The importance of staying on mission (24:11) How Rachel realized she didn’t need the approval of others (28:38) What it was like performing small shows for years (32:13) How she survived living in the city (35:07) The dream her husband is pursuing (40:01) How she’s not afraid to go to places others are (42:53) When a big dream becomes a delusion (44:40) How you begin to lose yourself (52:31) Plus much more... S1 Ep 569571 From Drug Addict to Whole30 Founder: Melissa Hartwig
"I FELT LIKE I HAD TO CHANGE EVERYTHING ABOUT ME AND MY LIFE TO STAY CLEAN” So many of us feel like we struggle with our weight. We search for diets and end up getting frustrated with them because the rules are hard to follow or they simply don’t work because there’s no 'one size fits all' solution. A while back I discovered a great, easy to use program called Whole30. It explains, step by step, how you can find the diet program that works for you. There’s a lot of people out there whose diet is making them sick. Maybe your friends can eat grains, but you can’t. Whole30 is designed to help you find exactly what YOU need. This system is one that felt so good I took it way past the 30-day mark. But the woman behind it is even more incredible. Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 568570 Find Your Confidence with Mel Robbins
"CONFIDENCE IS THE WILLINGNESS TO TRY.” We all need a tool chest filled with things that will help us with confidence, and motivation - especially if we want to be successful. One of the most powerful, useful, and important ones you need is the 5 second rule. On this Five Minute Friday I felt I HAD to bring you this tip from our episode with Mel Robbins. She’s a bestselling author, a former criminal defense attorney, a CNN commentator, happily married for 20 years, and a mom of 3 kids. She also has a 7-figure speaking business and is an inspiration of mine. Mel was easily one of my favorite interviews, and I know this is a tool that can launch you further than you ever expect. S1 Ep 567569 My Journey of Reclaiming Masculinity
"I DIDN’T HAVE THE COURAGE TO EXPRESS WHAT I WANTED - WHAT I NEEDED.” Lately I’ve been traveling around doing a book tour for The Mask of Masculinity. I always like to do a Q&A with my audiences to learn more about them and help answer any questions that may not be in the book. I recently recorded my talk in Los Angeles with an amazing group. They really dug deep and asked a lot of great questions, including a lot about my past. My book can only fit so much information and was written to help others more than be a biography. So I wanted to share with you this special talk. I really open up and practice what I preach. I talk about my father and open up about how he affected my life. I also share how I’m still learning, how I keep myself on track to keep my aggression in check, and much more, on Episode 569. Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 566568 The Morning Habits of the Rich
"WEALTH IS THE ABILITY TO FULLY EXPERIENCE LIFE” Lately so many people have been asking me about how to make more money. In fact 3 of my top 6 episodes are about money. Another 3 of my top 10 episodes are about habits. It got me thinking that there really is a correlation between money and the things that people do. I decided to address this for all of you and teach you what I’ve learned studying all of the wealthy people around me. I’m also willing to share my personal habits that have contributed to my success. S1 Ep 565567 Be a Warrior with JP Sears
"GROWTH DOESN'T HAPPEN IN OUR COMFORT ZONE, IT HAPPENS IN OUR UNCOMFORT ZONE.” I know him as a comedian with great videos, but were you aware at how inspiring JP Sears is? He puts himself out on the line every day, purposefully making himself look silly and taking chances. He doesn’t let fear get in his way, he embraces it. It’s normal for all of us to become scared, and hold ourselves back. That doesn’t create happiness, though. It creates comfort. If you want to be happy, take a lesson from JP Sears on this episode of Five Minute Friday, pulled from a previous interview. He discusses how fear isn’t something we should be pushing away from. It’s what we need to embrace in order push ourselves further, find out who we really are, and achieve the true happiness we want. Discover all of that and much more, on Episode 567. "IF YOU CAN'T ADAPT TO THINGS YOU WILL FAIL OR SUFFER. - EMILY SKYE Do you ever feel like you're in a dark place? Do you struggle and find that you keep comparing yourself to others? You're not alone, and it's natural. Even I find myself comparing my body to other guys on Instagram and feeling like I'm not adding up - and I'm a fit, healthy guy. The key is to shift our mindset. Don't feel like you are competing with them. Look at them for inspiration and motivation. If they can achieve it, you can too. If you find your purpose, you're going to give purpose to others. - Novak Djokovic With everything going on in the world I think it's important now more than ever to spread hope, love, and inspiration. Today's guest is the very definition of all of those things. Novak Djokovic grew up during two wars in Serbia. As a child, he would be woken up at 2 am to alarms going off and be forced to head to a safe place. He saw the night's sky turn to light as he heard and felt the rumble of bombs being dropped around him. Through all of this Novak didn't turn to hate. Instead he turned to love and passion. S1 Ep 561563 Achieve the Unthinkable with Naveen Jain
"People who are great at anything they do don't do it for the money. The money is just a byproduct of achieving greatness. Have you ever looked up at the moon and wondered what it's like to walk on its surface? It's fascinating to think of going there on vacation and seeing the world from a new perspective - literally. The only reason why it hasn't happened yet is that people haven't found the monetary value in it. Most people think of the moon as a big deserted rock without much purpose, not to mention how expensive and hard it is to get there. You'd sound like a crazy dreamer to say that that is going to change anytime soon. Our guest today not only sees the moon in a different light, but he has found a way to get us there very soon. S1 Ep 560562 Reach Your Full Potential with John Brenkus
"People who are great at anything they do don't do it for the money. The money is just a byproduct in achieving greatness. - John Brenkus As I'm sure many of you know, I'm pretty big on sports. I love everything about it. The challenge of the games, the sense of being part of a team, and even the science behind how it works. It's always fascinated me. Why is it some people can excel at sports, while others fall short no matter how hard they try? It's not just a matter of genes and physical strength. In fact, someone's natural mind set under pressure also has a lot to do with it. When you talk to Super Bowl Champions, no matter how much pressure is on them, it's just a game. If they win or lose, they go home to their families and they know life will go on. To most of us that kind of pressure would cause us to live in the moment, we'd be stuck in our heads, and end up costing us the big game. Get more from Lewis! S1 Ep 559561 Make Mistakes with Dr. Oz
"If you make no mistakes in life, it's going to be a pretty tedious experience" - Dr. Oz If you ever feel discouraged by mistakes, remember that living a life without mistakes would only mean you weren't trying nearly enough things. On this 5 Minute Friday, Dr. Oz talks about the mistakes that he has made in life as well as in the operating room, where the difference can be life and death. While the emotional toll of mistakes can be immense, they show us that we are on the road to success, as we learn from them and overcome what caused the mistake next time we face it. S1 Ep 558560 Les Brown: Overcome All Odds and Change the World
"Never make a point without a story, and never tell a story without a point. - Les Brown I am so excited to finally be releasing this episode with the amazing Les Brown on The School of Greatness. Les is a motivational speaker who doesn't just help people find inspiration, but helps them achieve greatness, and I think that this conversation will help you get a little closer to greatness, too. Les and his twin brother were adopted as infants and never knew their biological parents. They were raised by a single woman who was strong enough to do it all on her own. As a child, Les was diagnosed as mentally disabled, and referred to as DT - the dumb twin. He let this story everyone told him hold him back and keep him from achieving greatness. Najwa may have a completely different background than me, growing up in Lebanon and Canada as a Muslim woman, but she is so relateable that literally hundreds of thousands of people read her posts every day.
