S1 Ep 20Rudi Chaplin - Episode 20 - Sports Rehabilitator at The Treatment Lab
Rudi, owner of the Treatment Lab clinic joined me to share his own running journey and how the clinic has been impacted by current events. I've been treated by Rudi for over 3 years so trust in everything he does and says! As a fellow runner, Rudi sees and treat a lot of runners from all over Milton Keynes and as a runner himself can relate to our injuries and setbacks. Rudi is also part of the dream team that puts together the Sponsored Athlete programme where we sponsor 2 athletes every year on their journey to a spring marathon. The programme is in its 3rd year and this years athletes Mark and Anastasia have previously featured on this episode. We go on to discuss what future appointments look like in the sports treatment world and what the new 'normal' will look like.

S1 Ep 19Adam 'Tango' Holland - Episode 19 - 447 Marathons/Ultras and Counting!
Adam has 447 marathons and ultras to his name and has won more marathons/ultra marathons than anyone else in the UK. He was only 23 years old when he had reached 100 marathons putting him in the Guinness World Records for being the youngest person in Europe to achieve this. He is also the fastest person to run 10 marathons in 10 days, with an average time of 2 hours 45 minutes. Last year he completed the famous John O'Groats to Lands End Challenge where he ran over 800 miles running from the top to the bottom of the UK. This year Adam was due to run 20 marathons in 20 days but due to the current climate this has not been possible. Although Adams achievements are very impressive, he was very modest during our chat. We discussed some of his many achievements but also delved a bit deeper into how his running has changed in recent times.

S1 Ep 18Anastasia Murphy - @murphyruns - Episode 18 - Chasing the Sub 4 Goal with a Running Coach
Welcome to Episode 18 where I had the pleasure of chatting to Anastasia Murphy, also known as @murphyruns on Instagram. Anastasia is one of our sponsored athletes, where she got the opportunity to work with me, The Treatment Lab and Up Running leading up to Manchester Marathon. We chatted through her journey into running, her first marathon experience and the different she's found now that she's had a coach and the positive impact its had on her running. Also a part of the Brooks Run Happy Team, we spoke about her goals and if they've changed due to the current lockdown and what motivates her to get out the front door to run. I hope you enjoy this episode whether you're on a long run, walk or just listening at home.

S1 Ep 17Andy Hully - Episode 17 - Milton Keynes Marathon Race Director
Welcome to Episode 17 and one I'm sure a few of you will be very interested in! In this episode I sat down with Andy Hully the race director of the Milton Keynes marathon. Milton Keynes Marathon first started in 2012 to signify the Olympic year. It's now turned into a huge event over the last few years with the running community actively getting involved by either running the event, volunteering or spectating. Taking place every May Bank Holiday it's one of the biggest races on our local calendar. The Milton Keynes Marathon not only has the main event, but a half marathon, superhero fun run - a 1 mile race for the family, a new 10km race and the famous 5km rocket the day before with a great course for a PB! The MK marathon is iconic due to the fact that you get to finish in the football stadium cheered on by all of your friends and family. Andy very kindly spoke to me about how the events unfolded in March leaving him with no option to postpone the event until September. with huge uncertainty around Autumn events and a very crowded race calendar I asked Andy to share his thoughts on what he sees mass races looking like in the future. I hope you enjoy this event and want to thank Andy once again for coming onto the podcast.

S1 Ep 16Andy Raynor - Episode 16 - The FOD Runner
Welcome to Episode 16, where I sat down with Andy Raynor also know as the FOD Runner or Forest of Dean Runner. I met Andy through a mutual friend and over the last few years have had the pleasure of meeting him at various running events and am now able to call him a friend. Andy is a family man, running his own businesses but a very keen and talented runner. He seems to balance everything so well but also not the sacrifice of something else. If you know Andy, then you'll know he's a man who thoroughly enjoys the trails, loves a trainer review and has his own unique style of training. Last week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Andy to chat about his approach to training, how he tackles the long run as he runs 90% of the time between 18-20 miles and his growing YouTube channel. Since we recorded this he's hit over 5,000 subscribers which is a huge achievement and a lot more than when we first met. We talk through how relaxing and ignoring the watch has allowed him to achieve a sub 3 hour marathon after a few previous marathon disasters. He's also run a 36 minute 10km and 77 minute half marathon recently which is incredible as he's only been running for 5 years!

For anyone that's ever had the opportunity of meeting Dionne, you'll know her passion and love for running and everything kit and trainer related. When we first met I was taken aback by her shoe knowledge and if I ever need advice then I know she's the lady to go to! I couldn't think of anyone else to chat to about the various types of trainers, gait analysis, what trainers suit each runner and how Up & Running are managing at this time. We even got onto to the hot topic of the carbon fibre plates shoes that have shot into the market. As always I hope you enjoy this episode. S1 Ep 13Gail Emms - Episode 13 - Badminton Olympic Medallist and World Champion
Welcome to Episode 13, where I had the pleasure of talking to Badminton Olympic Silver Medallist and World Champion Gail Emms. The way this chat came about has a small story behind it. My Dad, who's one of my biggest fans, saw that Gail Emms had been working with some sports team online and then sent her a message asking if she'd be free to come onto my podcast. After I slid into her DMs we got chatting and Gail said yes! We had a great chat on the phone beforehand and I shamelessly told her we'd met a few times previously, one at a networking event where she did a talk for female business owners and the other time at the training studio F45 where we'd both taken part in a class. In todays episode Gail takes us through her sporting career, how she used running to improve her Badminton, what running races she's done in the past including the London Marathon, what lockdown life looks like for her now and as a sports speaker and motivator, how we can all be adapting to make the most of our time and use exercise as a positive and powerful tool. I really do hope you enjoy this one as Gails energy and enthusiasm was really infectious. https://gailemms.com/ @gailemms - Twitter

In Episode 12, I had the honour of sitting down with Michael McKillop, Irish International Runner and Paralympic Champion three times over. After discovering at a very young age that he had cerebral palsy, his parents actively encouraged him to live a full and happy life and at the age of 5 received his first pair of spikes. Sounds like he was destined to run as his Dad is a PE Teacher and also his coach. Michael has gone on to have an incredible running career and is now a very decorated athlete. He had an unbeaten streak from 2006 all the way until last year in 2019. The unique thing about Michael is that he competes as both an able-bodied athlete most of the year but also as a para-athlete. He was the first disabled athlete to represent his country at an IAAF Euro Cross Championships. His main distances are 800m and 1500m. Michael shared his journey with me where his paralympic journey started in 2005 and went on to win two silver medals at the European championships. At the age of 16 he went on to win his first title and broke the 800m World Record for the first time. In 2008 Michael went to the Paralympic Games in Beijing, China. He's since had the opportunity to go to two further games and was due to be in Tokyo this year. We chat about the postponement and what that means for his future running career. I recently chatted with GB and New Balance athlete Melissa Courtney-Bryant, to chat about her incredible running journey from junior athlete to European Indoor Championship medalist. After reaching a PB at 14 she hit a plateau which she didn't manage to break until she was 19 at Brunel University. We spoke about how not qualifying for the World Championships in London spurred her on even more to train harder which led to her bronze at the European Championship in 2017. She's made a few sacrifices along the way and gambled to make it as a full time athlete. With a promising career ahead of her and Olympic Dreams she spoke about how she's going to manage her training at this time. It was an honour to have Melissa on the podcast and I thoroughly enjoyed recording this episode. He now has run 14.40 for 5km, 67 minutes over half marathon distance and still wants to go quicker. His 'keep at it' attitude and determination has seen him progress and we talk through what else has contributed to these times.

We discuss the emotions, feelings and thought processes in the midst of it all. Hope you enjoy this bonus episode.

S1 Ep 5Mark Atkinson - Episode 5 - The 100 Marathon Club & Ultra Marathon Runner
Mark joined me to chat through his running journey, going from a guy who ran in big hoodies in the dark for 10 minutes to tackling an 145 mile race along the Grand Union Canal. He's part of the 100 marathon club, ran multiple ultras and likes to see how far he challenge and test his body. We spoke about nutrition and how to prepare for long distance races and also how we then wrote his own book documenting the various challenges he's set himself. A great chat even though he got attacked slightly by one of my cats Lily.
