Ep 18Mark Avery: 24hrs on a treadmill, why you need to go all in on goals and enjoy the journey not the destination.

E

Go for it now, The future is not promised to no one.On this weeks episode I sat down with Mark Avery the family man, the mental health advocate, the ultra endurance athlete and most of all one of the most humble humans I have ever spoken to... I mean it! From completing 21 half marathons in 21 days, running 1000kms from Brisbane to Sydney to 24hours on a treadmill. Non of these define Mark as the athlete he seems. No because he is much more than just an endurance athlete. His story says so. From suffering from depression, his own drinking habits and death of a close friend he found solace within exercise and reaching out for help. A family man he is paving a positive path for his kids and the people around him. He is giving permission for others to follow suit and achieve unimaginable goals but remember and as he says in the episode GO ALL IN AND DO THE WORK! I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did <3 To receive 10% off your total order head over to https://www.goochgoo.com/ and use the code "Running deep" at check out to get your hands on the best anti-chafe balm I've used so far.If you want to connect with Mark?:Instagramhttps://www.markjamesavery.com/Please take 2 mins out of your day to rate and review the podcast on the Apple podcast app.HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST?Subscribe & Review:  iTunes | Spotify | Google PodcastsTell Your Friends, Share and or Tag Online!https://www.instagram.com/running_deep_podcast/https://www.instagram.com/kent__mullins/ Hosted on Acast. Ep 17Brett Hardy: How to keep going when you have nothing left. Mental health ain't easy but worth it.

E

"Sometimes when you're overwhelmed by a situation - when you're in the darkest of darkness - that's when your priorities are reordered."On this week's episode, I sit down with a familiar face, Brett Hardy. Brett is no stranger to mental health and the challenges it brings to life. "Brett’s story involves a mental health sojourn that spans twenty years from 2000 to 2020. Prepare to ride alongside him as he goes through the bipolar motions of extreme highs, devastating lows and all the semi-stable moments in between. His story is proof that if a diagnosis is accepted and the right support embraced, then an individual living with mental illness can not only survive but thrive!"He has been dealt a shit set of cards in in his life but has come through on top. Ep 16Kent Mullins: Healing hurts & it's not pretty

To change things up and to use the time I have, I have decided to do little 10-20 minute episodes on things I think matter. Hopefully they are some easy listens and you can grab some sort of value from them as they come.On this weeks mini ep, I wanted to talk about what healing looks like in reality not on social media. We seem to have created a false narrative around healing, that it should be easy and "done in 3 easy steps if you buy my coarse...". There are certain modalities of healing that certainly do help but will not get to those deep rooted traumas that we are trying to work through. There are many bandaid fixes to such deep rooted issues. It's not attractive and it sucks but you can get it done. Please take 2 mins out of your day to rate and review the podcast on the Apple podcast app.HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST?Subscribe & Review:  iTunes | Spotify | Google PodcastsTell Your Friends, Share and or Tag Online!https://www.instagram.com/running_deep_podcast/https://www.instagram.com/kent__mullins/ Hosted on Acast. Corey Phillpot: Worlds Strongest Marathon record & what it takes to be a full time family man.

E

“There may be people that have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.”On this weeks episode I sit down with world record holder of the worlds strongest marathon, family man and ultra endurance athlete, Corey Phillpot to go deep on family balance, what it takes to break a world record by 3 hrs and things he has planned on the future. After being through the bender and coming out the other side only to be confronted by his own inner demons, Corey made a split decision to call his dad and change his life. This isn't a very romantic story of self exploration, more a man who was sick and tired of being sick and tired. On the cusp of suicide and ending it all that one call of reaching out changed the trajectory of his life for the better. Married with 2 children Corey is pushing the limits of what humans can achieve with a little hard work and dedication not only with his sporting achievements but with family life as well. Enjoy this episode because I sure know we both did.To receive 10% off your total order head over to https://www.goochgoo.com/ and use the code "Running deep" at check out to get your hands on the best anti chafe balm i've used so far.If you want to connect with Corey:https://www.instagram.com/coreyphillpott_/Please take 2 mins out of your day to rate and review the podcast on the Apple podcast app.HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST?Subscribe & Review:  iTunes | Spotify | Google PodcastsTell Your Friends, Share and or Tag Online!https://www.instagram.com/running_deep_podcast/https://www.instagram.com/kent__mullins/ Hosted on Acast. Ep 14Troy Jones: What it takes to run 4000kms across Australia.

E

"Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come."This week on the podcast trans Australia runner Troy Jones joins me to talk all things mental health and running. Troy is no stranger to the depths of his own mind and wants to show people in his circle and anyone he can reach through social media that you can change the way you look at your own life for the better.Troy in 2021 ran across Australia in 72 days covering 4000kms in the process. The logistics alone was one hurdle but to run on average 50-60km a day is another. Troy has the mental capability and capacity to to over come depression and push through barriers he never knew he had. This was a great conversation and I had a lot of fun recording it. Troy is a humble guy who just wants the best for the people around him. **TRIGGER WARNING** Kent Mullins - Vulnerability is the cure.

***SEXUAL ABUSE TRIGGER WARNING*** No interview this week. I want to keep this episode quick but intimate. I will warn you as there are some touchy subjects mentioned in this one. From my own personal experience but also a lot of others around me. This is a mini recap from the events that happened this weekend and how we can learn and master our selves. Vulnerability is the cure to this mental health pandemic. Without it, there is no recovery. Take the lead and speak out, give permission to the friends and family around you to do the same. We all have that power SO USE IT! We are all sick and tired of rising suicide rates and yet there are more mental health resources around us than ever before? There has to be another way out. Breathe work wont fix it, cold plunges wont fix it, eating a clean, vegan diet wont fix it... They all help but this is a lot bigger than surface level, band aid style fixes. We need to go deep! We need to talk about the dark pasts and the shadows that lurk behind us. Thats what made us who we are. Thats what got us there in the first place, it will get us out. BE BRAVE, BE BOLD AND GET IT DONE! Your life depends on it.Please take 2 mins out of your day to rate and review the podcast on the Apple podcast app.HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST?Subscribe & Review:  iTunes | Spotify | Google PodcastsTell Your Friends, Share and or Tag Online!https://www.instagram.com/running_deep_podcast/https://www.instagram.com/kent__mullins/ Hosted on Acast. Ep 12Kent Ohori: From pack a day smoker to world record Everestman & why we need to do hard things to have a more full-filled life.

E

"To achieve success, working hard and getting knowledge is not enough. What we need more is the belief in oneself and the ability to never give up on your dreams even after going through numerous failures. One needs to believe in the actions and dreams to make it a reality and work on every step to achieve it."Kent Ohori... There is so much to say in such short paragraphs... From a pack a day smoker, to losing his father and grandmother to now holding the world record for the fastest Everestman ever completed. It just goes to show what type of human he is. From humbled beginnings he is no stranger to the depths of hurt one can go through. Now how does one go from the night life lifestyle to conquering a feat such as Everestman. You will just have to listen to the episode. He is a humble guy who just wants to make a difference in the lives of the people around him and his club. Ep 9Danielle Britz: Why you need to "feel" too "heal" and why grief is good.

"Grief does not change you. It reveals you.” This week on the podcast I sit down with Danielle Britz, a former colleague and fellow friend. We talk all things mental health, grief and how Dani navigated her own mental health state after losing both parents within 13 months of one another. The key term here is "feel to heal" and she has taken that on in full force. Not only coming out of a deep depression and near suicide attempt she has found new meaning in deep and meaningful conversation.  The vulnerability and comfort this lady showed during our time together really shows how unstoppable she truly is. A powerhouse that wont be stopped. As we all are, she is still healing and wants you to know that it's okay not to be okay and that you need to reach out if you are struggling with your mental health.  It's time we re-asses how we look at mental health, its time we get it done together and pave the path. Ep 7The Glass house 100 - My first 100km Ultramarathon recap.

“Do something that scares the fuck out of you, then and only will you find out who you truly are.” I did attempt to record this podcast whilst recording a IGTV series describing this experience. So please bare with me and give me the benefit of the doubt as I don't have all the gear necessary to make it of professional standard how ever doing the best I can with what I have ;) And yes you get to hear me cry. This was a huge experience for me from who I was to what I have just achieved is a huge milestone. One I wont forget! How to articulate my 100km experience via typed podcast description. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. I was very naive going into this race on a whim after Callum had said he had entered. A very “enter now, figure it out later” attitude. I have had no real 100k specific training in the lead up with only a couple 4-5hr run equaling 80km all together 4 weeks out. I started hurting at 45km and really hurting at 60k… @ 70k I was done… So I thought… I was no where near done. My mind was playing tricks on me asking me, begging me, for my legs to stop, I wasn’t having any of that shit. I was finishing this fucker. The last 30km was the hardest 30km of my life. Walk, jog, walk, jog, run, jog, repeat. I would run for what felt like hours only to realise you have only moved 3km down the road… but I knew every step I took was closer to seeing my beautiful fiancé and 2 beautiful kids at the finish line. If it wasn’t for them, plus Callum and Rory, my crew, I may have not finished…. who am I kidding, I was finishing this thing no matter what. Taking a wrong turn @ 98km in I was lost for 40min trying to get my bearings with only a hand held bike torch and a dead phone. No maps no nothing, in the dead of night searching for that pink tape we had been following the entire time… but nothing…. Eventually I found my self at the school after going to a main road and following that until I saw traffic. After crossing the line in 16hr and 37 minutes I can now call myself an ultra marathon runner and have rewired my brain to endure more. You are capable of soooo much more than you think, trust me on that. Wether it be running or anything to do with your life, we are durable animals and can withstand ALOT including pain. You just need to throw yourself in the deep end because eventually you will learn how to swim one way or another. That fucking hurt and I fucking loved it.HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST?Subscribe & Review:  iTunes | Spotify | Google PodcastsTell Your Friends, Share and or Tag Online!https://www.instagram.com/run.4yourlife https://www.facebook.com/R4YLOFFICIAL https://www.instagram.com/the_imperfect_athlete/ Hosted on Acast. Ep 6Jacob O'Neill: A Spirited mans guide to what it means to be masculine.

E

“Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.”After a couple weeks hiatus, I am back with a powerful episode with the man, the myth, the legend, Jacob O'Neill! This guy is just a power human when it comes to all things divine. His energy is pure and powerful. His intentions are clear and you can see this guy wont stop at nothing until he has impact! (Which he is)From humble beginnings Jacob had a what we call "standard up bringing" when compared to others... Strict parents, high school stress, lots of up and downs in a hormone fuelled, emotional roller coaster.... Remember you need immense pressure and time to create diamonds in which Jacob is. A one in a million type of guy who through his struggles has been turned into something unique with a message to spread. I hope you enjoy the podcast! I know we had a blast recording it. A couple house keeping notes. The audio is a bit echoey but will try fix in later episodes.&The best ways to get in contact withJacob:http://www.jacobatoneill.com/FacebookInstagramLinkedInYoutube HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST?Subscribe & Review: iTunes | Spotify | Google PodcastsTell Your Friends, Share and or Tag Online!https://www.instagram.com/run.4yourlife/ https://www.facebook.com/R4YLOFFICIAL https://www.instagram.com/the_imperfect_athlete/ Hosted on Acast. Ep 5Kent Mullins: It's okay not to be okay.

"If you are going through hell, keep going."I do apologise for the audio! I was a bit close to the microphone whilst talking so you can hear a lot of my emphasised letters. On this weeks episode we are in lock down due to COVID. So all plans to have a guest on the show this week has gone out the window. So what better way to get some stuff of my chest and just talk to you as the listeners, as I am cooped up in bed in my jumper, trackies, socks and my microphone on my lap. I discus the irony of social media and how it can be used for good and evil. I also dive into how there is enough mental health awareness but not enough being done about it. There are some amazing groups on the gold-coast pushing the boundaries of this space such as:Mens Medicine Amend MovementBrotherhood Gold CoastGo check them out <3  HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST?Subscribe & Review:  iTunes | Spotify | Google PodcastsTell Your Friends, Share and or Tag Online!https://www.instagram.com/run.4yourlife https://www.facebook.com/R4YLOFFICIAL https://www.instagram.com/the_imperfect_athlete/ Hosted on Acast. Ep 4Kelly Thrush: Severe alcoholism to liver transplant.

E

“The phoenix must burn to emerge.”  What an episode! What a man! This week on The Running Deep Podcast I interview transplant survivor Kelly Thrush and we dive deep into his story on how he navigated severe alcoholism to basically having his body completely shut down on him.  Kelly was in need of an emergency operation due to his poor life decisions which indeed led him to a nearly early death. From losing nearly everything he was miraculously given a second chance. There is a higher power looking down on this man and he wants to pay it forward. Kelly is here for a reason. To show that you can hit rock bottom and come back a stronger man. He is one strong mother f****er and is on the journey of self discover and power! Kelly Thrush Articles: Featured article on Forks Over Knives Kelly Thrush Story If you would like to connect with Kelly his links are below: Kelly Thrush Facebook  Kelly Thrush Instagram HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST? Subscribe & Review:  iTunes | Spotify | Google Podcasts  Tell Your Friends, Share and or Tag Online! https://www.instagram.com/run.4yourlife/ https://www.facebook.com/R4YLOFFICIAL https://www.instagram.com/the_imperfect_athlete/ Hosted on Acast. Jessica Young: Our relationship, our life and our family.

"Love cures people - Both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it."This episode is a very special and sentimental one for me. This week is my first interview format podcast with someone very special to me and lives under the same roof as me. Jessica Young is my wife to be, my life partner and the mother to my perfect children. We dive deep into how my actions and my addiction affected her, how she navigated motherhood and how we are slowly recovering as a couple. The road to recovery has not been a linear one with many ups and downs but we have become stronger than ever. It is so healthy to have these conversations with your loved ones. You are both humans living separate experiences yet have come together in a mutual unity. So these types of conversation need to be had across the board or it builds up and you end up resenting one another. It's time to take your relationship by the horns and own it. It will be hard however worth it for your future selves.GET IT DONE - PeaceHOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PODCAST?Tell Your Friends, Share and Tag Online!https://www.instagram.com/run.4yourlife/https://www.facebook.com/R4YLOFFICIALhttps://www.instagram.com/the_imperfect_athlete/ Hosted on Acast. Ep 2Navigating Mental Health & Addiction

E

"Mental health... is not a destination but a process. It's about how you drive, not where you're going."This week I explore my personal bouts with mental health, addiction and how I still struggle with these set backs in day to day life. For me it isn't so much about feeling down but more what I do with myself when I feel down and what I do to bring myself out of that hole. (It can be an art at times)By no means am I telling you in this episode what to do or how to think. The last thing I want to do is offend anybody struggling themselves. However I hope for those going through mental health issues or addiction that they can pull something from this podcast to better their own life. Getting yourself better is a process. So do the work and reap the rewards. I hope you find your version of trail running. ;) If you listen, you will know what I mean.GET IT DONE.
