The Valley of Comfort #85
In 1986, singer-songwriter Sir Kenneth Loggins released an anthem celebrating what was, at that time, the most feared of all zones that we mere mortals might encounter on this earth: yes, that's right - The Danger Zone. But, Sir Kenneth was not aware of an even more deadly zone that our boys Sid and Keith will elucidate on this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast. (Also, real talk, you know who almost sang "Danger Zone" for the "Top Gun" soundtrack - Jefferson Starship. What could have been, right?) Nope, not the Twilight Zone. Negatory - the Zone Defense, while quite the conundrum for many a coach to deal with, isn't it either. Nor is it the elusive and rare Pizza Hut P'Zone, which is just a dumber version of a calzone. No, dear listeners, it's the dreaded Comfort Zone, the number one obstacle to achieving goals for you and your business and finding ways to grow. Being in the routine rut and hanging on to habits you've clearly outlived the need for aren't going to expand horizons for you or your business, so consider our boys and their personal experiences, practical tips and solid, stress-tested strategies to be your ground crew helping to guide you down the runway of right thinking that will help you and your business be able to take off and soar into the clouds of commerce. So, rev up that engine, listen to her howlin' roar and fly the friendly skies of combating the complacency of comfortable with this week's Overlap Podcast.
Right Person Right Seat: #84
In 1973, Malcolm John Rebennack Jr., better known to the world as the late great Dr. John, released a song known to people worldwide, an anthem that warns us what not to do - "Right Place, Wrong Time." Prophetic words from The Night Tripper himself but it's actually a good point that will also be raised on this week's Overlap Podcast. And just like how Bob Dylan and Bette Midler helped Dr. John write the lyrics to that classic tune (seriously, look it up), our boys Sid and Keith will help you and your business write a new tune called "Right Place, Right Time" for having the perfect person in the perfect position. (Also, real talk - Sid is Bob Dylan and Keith is Bette, right?) This week's episode is dedicated to making sure you've got the best person in the best position at the necessary time - like John McClain being at Nakatomi Tower on Christmas Eve all those many years ago. Placing people in the perfect position leads to a productive team and provides proper motivation for employee morale. The personal stories and amazing anecdotal evidence provided here will be something you'll want to remember, so go ahead and have a pen and pad of paper right there by you before you start listening. The tricks, tips and techniques you'll learn this week will be useful for everyone from the boardroom to the warehouse so tune in and turn up this week's Overlap Podcast.
Episode 83: When to Buy
What does your business have in common with 2013 Auburn University football player Chris Davis' final play in the 2013 Iron Bowl? Answer: Timing and how to use it correctly, whether it be making a big purchase or running a kick back all the way to the end zone to win the big game ... though we doubt Keith would make it halfway down the field in that situation. This week, our boys Sid and Keith will be talking about timing and how to use it to its fullest through careful consideration and analysis. Market trends, cash flow, ROI, other jargon that the podcast shownote writing team vaguely understands because they aren't in the business world ... yes, all of those things will be discussed, dissected and disseminated to you Friends of the Pod to help you grow and build your business in a better way. And these tips and tricks will work for everyone, whether you're a Mom and Pop feed and seed shop in rural Iowa or a C-suite executive in the Big Apple - all businesses gotta buy and our boys will make sure you're buying at the best time for your needs. So, turn it on and turn it up - this week's episode of the Overlap Podcast is one you ... can't afford to miss. P.S. the boys were so excited to give you this episode that they forgot to do a proper sound check so excuse the poor sound quality.
Episode 82: Justin Koen
As those great American philosophers Peaches and Herb once said, "Reunited, and it feels so good," and it does indeed feel good to be back again with Friend of the Pod and the Sultan of Sod, Justin Koen, Operating Partner of Sexton Lawn and Landscape Foley. Our boys Sid and Keith will talk with Justin about the ups and downs of starting a venture, blazing that new trail through uncharted territory as you embody that great spirit of Manifest Destiny that lies within the heart of every true American… but you won't end up screaming "54' 40' or Fight" at confused Canadians up in the Oregon Territory… probably. No matter what your new thing might be, the Overlap Podcast has you covered this week, with our patented terrific tips and always amazing advice and analogies, so tune in and turn it up for this week's Overlap. Episode 6
Episode 81: Dr. Josh Duplantis How to Attract and Develop Talent
Before you listen to this episode, you NEED to listen to Episode 43: It's Not COVID'S Fault Once you have listened to that episode then you are welcome to come back to this one. If you ignore me here, you are just going to hear Sid tell you to do the same thing. Now that has been taken care of on to our show notes. Guess who's back? Back again. Nope, not Slim Shady ... our boys Sid and Keith don't have that kind of clout, but we do have one of the all-time greatest guests in Overlap Podcast history returning to remind us why he is the GOAT at Getting Business Done. That's right - it's the Monarch of Manpower, the Emperor of Employee Development, the Lord of Labor himself - Dr. Josh DuPlantis (roaring crowd noises and applause in background). On this week's episode, Dr. Josh schools our boys on bringing the best of the best to your business and continuing to build on that greatness through professional development and career advancement. We're pulling out all the stops this week and bringing you the deepest of deep cut tips and tricks to make your talent pool truly transcendent - like looking beyond the traditional talent-seeking sources and engaging the full powers of social media and them worldwide Internet tubes to find the cream of the crop. And like Wagner's Ring Cycle, it's only going to get stronger, better and only vaguely more Teutonic. Per our status as founding members of #TeamNoSpoilers, that's all you're getting this week from us because you truly must listen to this episode to gather every bit, bauble and bite of the wisdom and knowledge we're serving up on this week's Overlap Podcast. EPISODE 80: Don't be a Hero
What's that one song that gets your blood pumping? The one that you know you can throw on that will pump you up and get you ready to kick some as... thing that may need a decent smattering of kicking? The one that hypes you up more than Flava Flav, the greatest hype man of all time, ever did Public Enemy? Is it "Eye of the Tiger"? "Thunderstruck"? DMX's "Party Up"? "The Final Countdown"? Be real - it's Patti LaBelle's "New Attitude," right? (No judgement - the song is a bop.) We all enjoy that adrenaline advance that hits when we hear that special song or maybe when we roll around on the jiu jitsu mat in our little jiu jitsu costumes looking like the Beverly Hills Ninja lost a few pounds, like our boys Sid and Keith. We rave for that rush ... but does it belong in your business? Our boys say "No" in this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast and they'll tell you why. Businesses need consistency, not chaos - a "slow and steady" wins the race sort of thing, not the hare going like he's mainlined Surge cola into his veins. Our boys will show you that you don't need to be like Bonnie Tyler "Holding Out for a Hero" if you know that a leader is what your business really needs. So, tune in and turn up this week's Overlap Podcast and learn yourself some of that good, good knowledge. (And, seriously, maybe give Flava Flav a gig at your business. It's been a while since those VH1 reality shows were on and I don't think Brigitte Nielsen is going to take him back this time, even though theirs was a love for the ages...)
Episode 79: Overcoming Obstacles
We can all agree that "3" is a powerful number, right? The Holy Trinity. The Triple Crown. The Three Stooges. Well, this week's episode of The Overlap marks our entrance into our third year as a podcast, so we're pulling out all the stops to celebrate this milestone by ... bringing you the same reliable, relevant content for you and your business from our boys Sid and Keith that we've been bringing since Episode One because we're gonna dance with the gal what brung us. An especially timely episode this week, as our boys talk about an issue many of us are facing as the calendar has hit a new year - remembering to not write "2022" in the date line of checks... well, that and something far more important - Overcoming Obstacles. We all come up with our "New Year, New Me" goals, but we don't think about the hurdles and struggles we'll have to duck, bob, and weave our way through to get to where we're going. But, Sid and Keith will help get us there, complete with their own life experiences and wisdom that will no doubt be the Contra Cheat Code to beat your life's big bad boss more easily and for good. So, tune in, turn it up and take notes - and thank you to all of you wonderful friends of the show who helped us reach this terrific trilogy of a milestone. We couldn't have done it without you. If you're looking for podcast about goal setting, go listen to these episodes. Episode 39: Goal Setting Episode 42: Health Goals Episode 62: Goals, Time to Review Episode 74: Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting
Episode 78: How to Stand Out
Whether you're the rose of sheer perfection or a freckle on the nose of life's complexion, the important thing seems to be the ability to be seen, to stand out - either for you personally or for your business. But, how do you make you the apple of everyone's eye and not the cinder they try to avoid? Don't worry - this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast will make sure nobody's gonna rain on your parade, Barbra. Our boys Sid and Keith can't help but be standup standouts in the world we live in, so they're excellently equipped with content-area expertise for this very topic. They'll tell you how to nurture that notoriety into something that will be beneficial to your business and a plus for your personage. Yes, even Keith has wisdom in this area, if only to serve as the much-needed cautionary tale. So, don't just sit around and putter. Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter - take our boys terrific tips this week and march your band out. We all gotta try once, right? Enjoy this week's Overlap Podcast - we certainly did.
Episode 77: Growth vs. Fixed Mindset
In this world in which we find ourselves living, there are two great camps with which we can align ourselves, a choice that will leave an indelible mark on our very being and guide our futures thusly. One path - the Fixed Mindset - is the path of an unchanging world in which we are confined to our lot and unable to break free from the chains of mundanity. The Fixed Mindset lot never go anywhere or do anything with their lives because they're too busy complaining and crying to actually pull themselves up by their bootstraps and do something with their damn lives. Their Mascot ... well, it would have to be Eeyore of Winnie The Pooh fame, right? A sort of walking, talking physical manifestation of clinical depression in all its glory? Seems accurate, doesn't it? (Also, there's a delightful story of how Eeyore got its name that involves some linguistic anomalies, but we won't bore you with that ... just find the person who writes these and ask. They'll tell you.) The other path - the Growth Mindset - is the Superman to the Fixed Mindset's Bizarro Superman, the Prozac to their Clinical Depression, the Tigger to their Eeyore. The Growth Mindset is the path of sunshine, lollipops, rainbows and positive, productive habits and thoughts that are going to lead you and your business to build a better tomorrow. So, this week, our boys Sid and Keith will take time to go over the Growth vs. Fixed Mindset Battle Royale and why they think you should always keep on the sunny side and give in to the Growth Mindset. We'd tell you more, but then you wouldn't have to listen ... and you're gonna wanna be sure to tune in and turn up this week's Overlap Podcast. https://online.hbs.edu/blog/post/growth-mindset-vs-fixed-mindset FIXED VS. GROWTH KEYNOTE PRESENTATION
Episode 76: Giving
Stop us if you've heard this one - a very rich man knows he's about to die and is worried about leaving behind his wealth. So, he converts a large amount of his fortune into gold bars and has the executor of his will make sure that he has the gold bars inside two briefcases handcuffed to his body when he dies. The rich man dies, complete with cuffed briefcases of gold, and ascends to Heaven to meet St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. Since most Heaven bound entrants don't come with luggage, St. Peter had to ask the rich man what was in cases. The rich man opens them up and shows off the gold bars. St. Peter peers at them, smiles and says "Well, isn't that nice? You brought road pavement. I'll let the Highway Department know." You Can't Take It With You - a motto about how material possession and wealth don't come with us in death and a delightful comedy play/film from George Kaufman and Moss Hart you really ought to see some time. On this week's The Overlap Podcast, our boys Sid and Keith are granting you the gift of their thought on generosity and giving. Staying stingy may put pennies in your pocket in the short-term but altruistic alms-giving can be a smart strategy that helps your business and helps make you a better all-around human being. So, don't be a Scrooge - tune in to this week's episode and find out about what giving can do for you. Give to Catholic Social Services
Episode 75: Leveling Up
(Cue the original "Star Trek" theme music) What do "Star Trek" and your business have in common? Hopefully, it's not that anyone in a red shirt will die on the job at some point ... because our finger is already hovering over the dial to OSHA and possibly the local law enforcement folks if that's the case... No, your business and the Starship Enterprise both suffer from one key problem: how to hire outstanding employees. Seriously, the main cast on every episode was having to do all the things because the other crew members either don't show up, get killed or are just so incredibly incompetent that you wish they had been killed. No wonder Scotty was always so flustered down there in Engineering... So, unless you want to end up saying your vocation's equivalent of Bones McCoy's "Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not a ... (insert thing here)," you're going to have to overcome the seemingly unsolvable Kobayashi Maru scenario of finding and hiring the right people to help you. Not to worry, loyal listeners, Captain Sid and Commander Keith have beamed onboard this week's episode of the Overlap Podcast to help guide you home (and hopefully without having to pick up that blue whale like in one of the original movies ... Star Trek IV maybe ... or VI ... one of the even numbered ones, because those are the only watchable ones). Do you want you and your business to "Live long and prosper?" Then you better have your Communications Officer make sure you're linked in to this week's episode so you can succeed "where no man has gone before..." Episode 74: Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting
You've no doubt heard the old adage "If you want to make God laugh, make a plan." We counter with this - "If you want to make everyone in your business feel true homicidal rage, don't make a plan." Maybe not as catchy, but it definitely sends a message, right? Probably not as funny on a coffee mug, admittedly - feels like the sort of thing that eventually ends up in the court trial as State's Exhibit E or F. This week, our boys Sid and Keith hammer home yet another episode about the importance of planning, making sure that you keep your commitments and lock your eyes on the prize - because your business and your well-being in every facet of life depends on your being able to anticipate, act and adjust for what the future may throw at you. Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana - but fail to make a proper plan and you'll be the one looking like a monkey. Plan to tune in and turn up this week's Overlap Podcast - it's good for what ails you and your business. P.S. Sid we are a big and cool podcast. Yours truly, the production team. Intro music by: Phil J
Episode 73: Tax planning and so much more with Johnny Barranco
Stop us if you've heard this one - what is the definition of "accountant?" Answer: Someone who solves a problem you didn't know you had in a way you don't understand. So, if we're starting with an accountant joke, it can only mean one thing - Patron and No. 1 Friend of the Show, the Abbot of Accountancy himself Johnny Barranco is back again with some year-end advice and assistance to help make sure your actuals actualize and your balances balance. First tip - don't be the guy who comes into the accountant office on April 10 and brings in the battered old Adidas box full of random receipts, figures scribbled on napkins and the two inexplicable packets of duck sauce… yes, if that is you, your accountant probably isn't actively planning your death but he won't be sad when you leave this earth. Our boys Sid and Keith will make sure to get every last drop of that great wisdom Johnny always bring us, that good good that will mean more money in your wallet instead of Uncle Sam's. So before you start hitting Uncle Gene's special egg nog and picking your seat at Christmas Eve dinner to try to avoid chatty Aunt Carol, be sure to tune in for this week's Overlap Podcast - you can … account … for a good time to be had.
Ep 72Episode 72: Darrell Amy: Revenue Growth Engine
Ford's Model T. The Chevy '350' V8. The Aston Martin V12. Thomas the Tank. Famous Engines all, right? Well, on this week's Overlap Podcast, our boys Sid and Keith sit down with the author of the world's next truly iconic engine - yes, it's Darrell Amy, author of the soon-to-be iconic book "Revenue Growth Engine," with a podcast and master class of the same name. Darrell's genesis for the Revenue Growth Engine was attempting to bridge the gap between Sales and Marketing within companies, but upon opening up the hood on several companies, he saw a common theme gumming up the works - the timing belt had come off. And by timing belt, of course we employ metaphor because we really mean use and management of time - finding a way to create and maintain work-life balance as a business owner. Our boys get in the passenger's seat and let Darrell drive this conversation that will definitely be a value-added bonus that's even better than the little pine tree they give you for free at the car wash place to hang on your rear view mirror and make your interior smell vaguely like value-brand Pine-Sol. Get ready to rev up your business and your life with this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast. www.revenuegrowthengine.com (Podcast, Master Class, and more available)
Episode 71: Life and Business Need Recalibration
Well, friends of the pod, last week we learned all about breaking free from the day to day and finding time to be away from everyone and everything with everyone's favorite hermit, Keith. And, now, for something completely different... On the Overlap this week, our boy Sid talks about his own not-so-solo sabbatical and the power of positive partnerships that can be found when we indulge the urge to roam. He'll show us that finding time to travel a new highway and collaborate with new cohorts helps us to be able to learn new ideas, share wisdom and create a space that makes us open and available for opportunity. Think "Eat, Pray, Love" with a bald-headed dude instead of Julia Roberts or "The Odyssey" without the angry and vengeful gods and magical creatures but ... with a bald-headed dude ... and a Keith. We're on the road again this week, so tap the app, tune in and turn it up for this week's Overlap Podcast
Episode 70: Getting Away with Intentions
What do Kit Kat bars, the late, great actress of stage and screen Nell Carter and our boy Keith all have in common? Nope, not diabetes ... surprisingly. They all are tied to a phrase that is more mantra than marketing - "Gimme a Break." (And, real talk, Nell singing the theme tune to that classic 80s sitcom - don't sleep on it, 'cause it's a bop ... as is the Kit Kat jingle, if we're being completely honest. Keith, though ... seldom, if ever, a bop). Yes, Keith has returned from the haunts of coot and hern where he was far from the madding crowd pulling a Henry David Thoreau on Walden Pond and the insights he brings back to share with his hetero life mate Sid actually produce some transcendental treasures about taking time off that are truly terrific for you and your team. Allowing authentic and intentional rest and relaxation and taking a vacation from your vocation gives you the wherewithal to find focus on what to fix in your business and personal lives. Our boys will share experiences and expert advice to show you that those 80s singing sirens The Go-Go's had it right - "Vacation, all I ever wanted/ Vacation, had to get away/ Vacation, meant to be spent alone." This week's episode of The Overlap Podcast will have you hankering for your own holiday, so turn it on, tune in and turn it up - and you'll hopefully be finding yourself in your own personal equivalent of Kokomo, with that tropical drink melting in your hand to the rhythm of the steel drum band. Bon voyage, loyal listeners. For more go to www.overlaplife.com
Episode 69: Culture, in our opinion
What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of "culture"? Androgynous pop star Boy George sing-asking if you really want to hurt him? The active ingredient in the yogurt that Jamie Lee Curtis shills for that makes you have to poop? The Canadian rapper who did the remix of Toto's "Africa" back in the late '00s? (If the third one really is the first thing that comes to your mind ... how? And why?) While all of those are solid answers, this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast will focus on organizational culture at our businesses - a topic that is much discussed within the business community but one that lacks a cohesive collective understanding for almost everyone - culture can be sleuthy and difficult to find, not unlike a karma chameleon. Our boys Sid and Keith will "Tumble 4 Ya" and discuss, dissect and disseminate the dilemma of defining and developing culture in an organization, including a top-notch example from Sid that you really have to listen to the episode to hear - and not just because we're #TeamNoSpoilers. The dialogue and banter in this week's offering is really just too good not to enjoy yourselves, even if our boys may fall short of fully being able to solve the Culture Conundrum in its entirety. But, to be fair, if they did, they wouldn't be able to keep bringing you awesome content week after week, so maybe it's for the best, right? Tune in and turn it up on this week's Overlap Podcast - and if we get over 50 shares across all of our social media sites this week, we'll make Sid and/or Keith dress up in full makeup like the aforementioned Boy George of the famous band Culture Club. How's that for a reward, you loyal friends of the show?
EPISODE 68: How to know when it's time to grow
When it comes to you and your business with regards to growth, there seems to be two equal but wildly different camps that folks will settle into - like "A Tale of Two Cities" or the twins from "The Parent Trap" movies (Hayley Mills or Lindsay Lohan, take your pick). Either you get way too excited (think that episode of Saved By the Bell with Jessie Spano and the caffeine pills) and you buy up equipment or hire personnel you think you need without the revenue backing and true growth to support it ... or you're the micromanaging money miser (think Ebeneezer Scrooge pre ghostly visits) that has the money and the numbers to back up growth, but you're reluctant to pull the trigger and you stunt your growth due to lack of support. It seems like a no-win scenario no matter what, like you're a Starfleet captain facing the Kobayashi Maru training exercise. And, not unlike a young Captain James Tiberius Kirk, our boys Sid and Keith here at The Overlap Podcast are going to hack the scenario and find a way for you and your company to win. It's a fine balance to figure out strategic growth, but our boys will make like the Flying Wallendas and have you right in that sweet spot of appreciating opportunities while maintaining strategic, sustainable growth. This week's episode is a must listen for any industry so that you and your business may ... live long and prosper. Episode 67: Bankers - Friend or Foes with Mason Howells
(The familiar funky bass licks of The O'Jays' "For The Love of Money" begins playing in the background) Scratch. Moolah. Shekels. Cold, hard cash. When it comes to you and your business, there's two things we know about the Almighty Dollar: you gotta have it and you always want more of it - but no one ever elaborates on the how to get there, do they? Per the usual, The Overlap Podcast has you covered, as our boys Sid and Keith chat about how to capture that critical capital and credit you crave with their special guest Mason Howells, the Beaucoup Bucks Banker (who also actually claims Sid as a client ... we're shocked, too). Mason and our boys talk about a flood of fiscal focuses. Whether it's building a better relationship with your bank and banker or its Money Master Mason giving a sensational seminar on taking out a loan for your business, you'll partake in a plethora of pecuniary pleasure just by popping this week's podcast in your ears. You and your business need this information here and now, so we'll stop typing and let you enjoy the show - we're gonna finish jamming to The O'Jays. https://www.sba.gov/ For more resources and to checkout our sponsors go to https://www.overlaplife.com
Episode 66: How do you know when it is time, and what to do
You know it's time - if not, "You Oughta Know." In your heart, you know "It's Too Late." When you think about it, you know that "You Lost That Lovin' Feelin'." But, as the classic tune says "Neither one of us ... wants to be the first to say goodbye." Guesses on this week's Overlap Podcast topic? If you can't figure it out, then "We Are Never Getting Back Together" and we'll have to contend with finding "Someone Like You." Our boys Sid and Keith agree that "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," but while a romantic relationship gone wrong can be regrettable, what can you do when the honeymoon is over with your work spouse - because sadly singing "I Will Always Love You" (Dolly version, of course) at them as you pack up your belongings to leave the Chicken Ranch ain't gonna fly here (much like the chickens). To help you help that soon to be ex-employee better find the "End of the Road," our boys find a way to help you let them down easily, without disrupting your remaining team members ... and just so we're clear - it's not you, it's them. Avoid playing the "Blame Game" and find a way to be resolved and "Walk On By" - you know you have to listen to the episode's to get the real tips #TeamNoSpoilers This week's Overlap Podcast might not be able to "Un-break (Your) Heart" due to your labor loss, but with our help you can "Go Your Own Way" and like Queen of Disco Gloria Gaynor ... you will survive. And while you may look back at that former employee and think "Nothing Compares 2 U," trust us when we say you will eventually come to "Believe" that they were far better to be in your life as "Just A Friend."
Overlap Episode 65: Christeen Era
To quote arguably the most famous piece of green felt on the entire planet, "It's not easy bein' green." Now, we do not know if this week's guest on The Overlap Podcast takes the words of former Muppet Show host Kermit the Frog as gospel like we do (because our hosts neglected to ask her views on Muppet philosophy), we know that, like Kermit, special guest star Christeen Era knows a lot about green and hard work ... and she has to put up with our boys Sid and Keith not unlike Mr. The Frog has to deal with habitual balcony dwellers Waldorf and Statler. Movin' Right Along, Christeen's bona fides are second to none. As the co-founder of the Green Profit Academy (GPA) and CEO of Core Growth Strategies, she has forgotten more about business than any of us would ever hope to know in four lifetimes and she has a slew of certifications that are a credit to her cleverness: Profit First Professional, QuickBooks Pro Advisor, Fix This Next Advisor and Pumpkin Plan Strategist (the only Pumpkin Plan Keith know is the fastest way to eat a pumpkin pie). With her dual-wielding skills of consulting and coaching, Christeen is a champion of cash flow and company growth. Through GPA, she uses her green thumb to grow lawn care and landscape businesses but the advice she shares with our boys this week is evergreen and ever-relevant to any and all businesses. The necessity of outside perspective and the criticality of coaching are just a few of the topics she'll touch in this week's episode, so ... it's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights, it's time to get things started on ... The Overlap Podcast this week. (Just so we're clear on this whole Muppet comparison thing, we all agree Keith is Gonzo, right?)
Overlap Episode 64: You're off track... Now What?
It is a universal truth that everyone loves a comeback story - Hoosiers. Cool Runnings. Robert Downey Jr.'s career. That Kate Bush song about running and hills that was on the latest season of Stranger Things - we love to see everything come full circle. So, if Kate Bush can do it, why can't you? As we reach that mid-year check-in point, our boys Sid and Keith are available and able to advice and assist with attaining those goals we set at the beginning of the year that keep coming up again and again and again in this podcast - a life without goals is like a mule with a spinning wheel; no one knows how he got it and darn if he knows how to use it. So, will you be a nattering nabob of negativism and punt your goals to next year or will you rise to the challenge that lies before you and do the damn things that need to be done? This week's Overlap Podcast is all about running up that hill and getting you to gold medal in goal completion, so jump on board and join in with us. You never know - there might even be an inspirational montage moment for you, complete with a fitting yet not quite perfect off-the-wall music choice to go along with it (Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" comes to mind - don't let that de-escalator keep you from finding that purple banana, listeners - shine bright, you crazy diamonds).
Overlap Episode 63: Sh__ __ happens
Frodo journeying to Mordor to destroy the Ring. Dorothy easing on down that yellow brick road to find the wonderful wizard. Bandit and Snowman risking life, limb and Sally Field to get that beer from Texarkana to them thirsty folks in Atlanta - everybody loves a good epic journey, don't they? You just have to love that electric thrill you get when you see the protagonist and their cohort of chums leave their comfort zones and rise to the challenge that has been presented to them. But, when it comes to our own lives, why are we suddenly hesitant to go out and do what needs to be done, just like our pop culture heroes and sheroes? Our boys Sid and Keith will help us unpack this uncertainty, acting as our own personal Gandalf the Gray, Glinda the Good Witch, Morpheus, Yoda... you get the idea. It's make it or break it time on the Overlap Podcast this week, and they'll show us the choices we make can generate growth, create chaos or leave us mired in the mundane and the mediocre. Turn on, tune in and choose your own adventure in this week's Overlap Podcast.
Overlap Episode 62: Goals: Time to Review
Have you heard this one? A guy gets to work and sees his boss pull up in an expensive new car with all the bells and whistles and he can't help but admire it. He tells his boss that he would kill to be able to drive a car like that. His boss says, "Well, if you set realistic goals, work hard and stay determined ... I can probably get an even better car next year."(Ba dum tiss, or however you make the rimshot sound you hear after such a joke) Not to worry, Friends of the Show - our boys Sid and Keith aren't going to leave you in the parking lot staring at what you could have; they're going gangbusters in this week's Overlap Podcast to get behind you and guide your goals and make your future finer. This episode will be retrospective, introspective, inspective and prospective to give you some perspective for your respective goals. Evaluation and course correction come included, free of charge. It's all about seeing where we have been this year and figuring out how to get to where we want to go, so turn it on and tune in to this week's Overlap Podcast.
Overlap Episode 61: Training 123
As COVID begins to become more endemic than pandemic and our economy starts to teeter back slowly to some new semblance of normal, there is something noticeable across every industry and category that continues to be a burden on our businesses. Folks may still be tumblin' out of bed and stumblin' to the kitchen, but it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of pourin' themselves a cup of ambition 'cause there don't seem to be a lot of folks wanting to be on the job from 9 to 5... (with apologies to Saint Dolly for cribbing her lyrics). Workforce woes continue to cause business leaders to wail and weep, but not to worry - the Overlap Podcast won't let you dream just to let them shatter because even Dabney Coleman can't take them away. This week, our boys Sid and Keith talk about the seemingly limitless lack of labor force that we continue to hear exists but maybe it ain't necessarily so? It appears some businesses are having potential employees beat down their doors to get their applications in, so what is the catalyst for change that's driving those workers wild? Short answer: it's the Exceeding Expectations Game - employees expect even more than they have previously from potential employers and those businesses have to either be willing to adjust or be prepared to go bust. Sid gives us some real-life examples from his homegrown business, Sexton Lawn and Landscape, and Keith ... contributes somehow, we're sure. We'll just go with a writ of #TeamNoSpoilers and move on, yeah? Now, to truly get the extra most bestest out of this episode, be sure to have a go at last week's episode featuring the amazing Andy Andrews, as there is clearly some ... Overlap ... between that episode and this one. Trust us, you want to get as much wisdom as you can these days - because "There's a better life, and you think about it, don't you?" Overlap Episode 60: Andy Andrews
Normally, this is where we'd do some sort of jokey intro and make some weird pop cultural reference that is usually, at best, hit or miss - but this week, in the spirit of our spectacular special guest, we're going to change our perspective and genuflect to the Great Guru of the Gulf - New York Times best-selling author, the Professional Noticer himself, Mr. Andy Andrews. It almost goes without saying that the year 2020 certainly changed everything in our world, especially our general outlook on life. "Normal" as we knew it before then ceased to be, as did the businesses and people who attempted to cling to that former sense of "normal." Our boys Sid and Keith will indulge themselves of Andy's interesting insights, as he has remained a content area expert for trying to get people to change their perspectives for decades. The Amazing Andy is here to tell us all that radical perspective changes don't just happen because of insane global pandemics - they can happen at any given moment, so we have to be open and willing to think and do differently if we want to avoid failure. Again, we'd normally be way more committed to our usual jocular schtick that we've established in these podcast notes, but, honestly, nothing but genuine respect and admiration for Andy Andrews and the almost sermon-like message he brings to The Overlap Podcast this week. You owe it to yourself to listen to this week's episode - it'll definitely be one that Keith will make his son make a clip show for ... probably in a week or two because he and Sid are too busy steam pressing their new purple belts from their weird wrasslin' thing they do to remember that they have to record an episode. Overlap Episode 59: Leveling up in Jiu-jitsu
When you think about the color purple, what comes to mind? The Pulitzer prize winning novel written by Alice Walker? The Spielberg directed movie that won Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar and gave the world Oprah Winfrey's famous "You Told Harpo to Beat Me" monologue? Perhaps it conjures to mind a beloved children's character - Barney the Dinosaur, Tinky Winky from the Teletubbies, Count von Count of Sesame Street or The Grimace of McDonald's fame? Or could it create a memory of the beloved decades-old children's book involving a young boy named Harold and his adventures with a crayon of said aforementioned color? Be honest - it really makes you think of Prince, doesn't it - "Purple Rain" is and always will be a true classic as His Royal Badness was a true American icon ... and his work in helping create Morris Day and the Time should always be commended. We digress ... today on The Overlap Podcast, purple reigns over the discussion because of a big life event for our boys Sid and Keith - Keith's pregnant and having Sid's baby ... er, we mean, they both recently attained a high honor within the world of jiu-jitsu by earning their purple belt (even though it clashes terribly with those white ... jiu-jitsu suits whose name we can pronounce but never remember how to properly spell). Fashion concerns aside, this marks a milestone for both our boys, as it took both of them 5 to 6 years to attain this rank, longer than it would to earn a bachelor's degree (which would be a first for Keith). You might be tempted to skip this episode ... we get the impulse, as our eyes glazed over when the topic was told to us. However, hear us out - this is actually an incredibly important episode that isn't just self-congratulatory claptrap. Our boys banter about what it took to get there - from the importance of doing the hard work to creating community and commonality, things that can be applied to more than just wrasslin' around in weird suits with clashing belts. And, as an added bonus, you get to hear multiple tales of both Sid and Keith getting choked out and becoming unconscious. We don't know about you dear listeners, but the image of choking Keith until he's unconscious is really ... just delightful for us to imagine. So turn it on, tune in and turn it up - it's Purple Week here at Overlap. Whether that's the belt they're wearing or the color of Keith's face as our hands slowly close around his windpipe ... we'll let you decide. Overlap Episode 58: The Best of part 4
In its almost 33 years on television, the legendary Fox animated series "The Simpsons" has only had six clip show episodes, that is to say episodes composed of snippets and gobbets from other already made episodes. Quite a feat, right? So, with an introduction like that, you can hopefully guess this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast - yes, another "Best Of" episode hosted by the Son of Keith himself, our main man Austin Glines, who will preside over this fourth "Best Of" episode with these pieces of podcasts past in true stalwart clip show host fashion, like Henry Fonda did for "All in the Family," Lucille Ball did for "Three's Company" and the venerable John McLaughlin did for that two-parter "Cheers" clip show. The only difference between us and those TV clip show greats, though - this podcast still contains vital information for your everyday life and the betterment of your business, whereas hearing McLaughlin interview George Wendt will ... let you learn more about George Wendt and the inner workings of the character of Norm. Fascinating stuff. Listen to this week's episode so you can catch up on these blasts from our past - it's well worth your time and effort.
Overlap Episode 57: Top 5 Tips for Your Managers
No matter what industry you work in or what business you own, there always have to be rules and policies, right? The Dress Code. The Work-From-Home Policy. The 'Don't Talk to Karen from Finance Until She's Had Her Morning Coffee' Corollary. Every business has them and needs them (especially that one about Karen from Finance ... You were an OG, Dave from Accounting, and we hope they recover your body one day, for your family's sake). And, yet, while every organization has rules and regulations, in a similarly universal fashion, they're also almost always completely hated by the people who work there, who cite issues with rules about daily number of bathroom visits, why fish can't be heated in the communal microwave and why they can't wear their Snuggies to work (If you really want to get around a dress code - here's a pro tip: do what the Hawaiian Fashion Guild did in the 1960s and bribe your state legislators with free Aloha Shirts and then accidentally create the concept of Casual Fridays. Seriously - this was a thing. Look it up.) While some folks may grumble or grouse at the rules, policies, procedures and guidelines, the common thread in all of it is accountability, which our boys Sid and Keith will be advising us on in this week's episode. By codifying and creating concrete rules and regulations in our businesses, we set standards for behavior, output, consistency, et cetera, that are vital for maintaining a successful and accountable workplace.Setting rules and regulations isn't about being the bad guy - it's giving your employees the tools and tricks they need to take themselves and your business to the top. So, this week's episode is chock full of useful tidbits to help you survive and thrive, so turn it on, tune in and take notes - this week's Overlap Podcast is a terrific time. (And if anyone has any leads as to the whereabouts of Dave from Accounting, please contact the Overlap Podcast, your nearest local law enforcement office, the Unsolved Mysteries television program, or the ghost of Robert Stack.)
Overlap Episode 56: Time Management
When you think of the word "time," what comes to mind? Days, hours, minutes, seconds? The title of a magazine you seldom see outside of your dentist's waiting room? Did the familiar strains of "Jungle Love" start playing in your head, bringing you that good, strong Minneapolis sound from Morris Day and the Time? (O-e-o-e-o, the song is a bop, as most things Prince wrote were. RIP to a real one.) Well, our boys Sid and Keith take on the concept of time in this week's Overlap Podcast, which is something relevant to everyone on God's green earth, regardless of what business you may find yourself in or what your title may be. It is a universally acknowledged truth that when someone asks another person "How are you doing," with a 99.76 percent response rate, their answer will be either "Good" or "Busy." (The remaining 0.24 percent is your Great Aunt Gladys, who simply says "Why do you care? You never come visit anyway" and then usually starts into some rant about why Spiro Agnew got a bum deal.) In a world that seems divided on almost every major issue, we all seem to agree that we're all incredibly busy all of the time, even though some of us appear often to be doing nothing at all (mainly Keith, to be honest). Rather than trying to find a DeLorean with a flux capacitor or hoping you hear the woosh of the Tardis to help you understand all this wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff (or God forbid having to learn quantum mechanics or some weird experimental physics), our boys have got you covered with how to free yourself from the Bridle of Busy - simple, straight-forward time management. Finding a way to better effectively manage your time will pep up your steps and keep you from feeling overwhelmed by what seems like a plethora of professional pursuits that pop up every day. Now, we could, of course, just give you all of our tremendous tips here in the podcast notes for easy digestion and dissemination, but ... yeah, not gonna happen #NoSpoilers . So, to find out how to defeat the ticking clock of wasted time, you're going to want to take time to tune in and turn it up for this week's Overlap Podcast. (And to defeat the aforementioned Morris Day and The Time, you're going to need to figure out how to throw a musical group together, which would include bringing Apollonia out of retirement, and learn how to do a banger version of "Purple Rain" and ... well, write us and let us know how that goes for you.) Episode 55: Green Profit Academy with Steve Bousquet
("Before I Let Go" as sung by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly starts playing in the background) Are you ready for the Overlap Podcast Family Reunion? Got the matching reunion t-shirt? How you want your burger cooked? You know you need to stay away from Great Aunt Deb's potato salad with the raisins in it, right? It's reunion week here with our boys Sid and Keith as they sit down and shoot off with Sponsor and Friend of the Show Steve Bousquet, landscape legend and lawn scientist supreme, who is back for his second time around on the show (on his tenth show, he gets a free drink with purchase of an entree ... value-added content here at Overlap). While Steve may be the Lord Mayor of Landscaping, the advice and business acumen he provides in this week's show is evergreen and good for any climate across our globe. Steve's journey is one that many of us have faced in our own business careers - you can be an expert in your field and know how to do what you do really well, but if you don't know the business side of business, you're in for a world of trouble. And Steve's journey has all of the dizzying highs of success, terrifying lows like tremendous debt and a delightful ending that you know we aren't going to talk about here because #TeamNoSpoilers since ... whatever year Sid and Keith started doing this podcast. 2021? 2020? 1947? (Shrugs) Turn on, tune in and take notes - this week's episode is better than Great Aunt Tootsie's homemade pound cake at this fictional reunion we're still apparently in? Enjoy the episode and y'all come do the Electric Slide until that DJ up there finally starts taking requests and we can get some Bell Biv DeVoe going up in here... Overlap Episode 54: Who Moved My Cheese Review
Can you guess this week's topic here at the Overlap Podcast? Now, we recognize this week's topic might be one that you're unfamiliar with, something that is seldom talked about or referenced, and therefore might be a smidge esoteric and out there - yes, you guessed it, it's the "Always Be Closing" scene from David Mamet's play/movie "Glengarry Glenross" so get ready because "Coffee is for closers." Take that, Jack Lemmon. Yeah ... nah, that's not this week's topic. This is a family podcast and that particular scene has more versions of the F word in a seven-minute period than you would have thought possible - even the seldom-used gerundial version. (We'll pause while you look that up ... Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good" starts playing). No, this week's topic with our boys Sid and Keith is a mid-year check-in on our Year of Setting Goals that we began in earlier episodes. Our boys will talk at you about quarterly reviews and their necessity in business for staying on top of things year-round; your business is not the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie and BBQ - you can't just "Set it and forget it" (unless you're the ghost of legendary infomercial king Ron Popeil and you're listening to this week's episode ... in which case, we'd love to have you be a guest on the show and would gladly provide a medium for you to conduit through if needed). To keep us on task and from figuring out how to send a guest spot ask to someone who has ceased to be, we'll use as our text this week the seminal business text "Who Moved My Cheese," by Dr. Spencer Johnson, a book all of us have likely heard of but maybe have never actually read. (Sidebar: from the title alone, it feels like it would be a delightful children's book about someone moving the protagonist's cheese and them having to go all over creation to look for it, only to find out that the cheese was inside all of us all along and the journey to find the cheese was the real ... cheese? Kids are dumb; it'll sell). So, goal-setting, breaking routines and something about cheese - sounds like a promising week on the Overlap Podcast so turn on, tune in and take a journey with us ... to find the cheese, I guess ... or a Ronco Pocket Fisherman ... or the good Mitch and Murray leads ... been a long week here, listeners. Enjoy.

Overlap Episode 53: Robin LeJeune
Two truths and a lie about this week's extra special guest: he's distantly kin to Beyonce Knowles-Carter, he is in an "Earth Wind and Fire" cover band called "Dirt Breeze and Blaze" (in which he plays the triangle), and he's a founding member of a secret society known only as the Distinguished Gentlemens' Breakfast League. You think you might know which are which, but ... we promise ... you would be surprised. For this week's Overlap podcast, it's a more jovial and jolly episode as our boys Sid and Keith sit down to jaw with an Eastern Shore legend: the Jocund Juggernaut of the Jubilee City - Hizzoner Robin LeJeune, Mayor of the City of Daphne and the Guru of Good Gumbo through his iconic family restaurant Market by the Bay (Seriously, in a post-apocalyptic world, this man's gumbo could be the gold standard our End of the World currency is backed by). The Honorable Mr. LeJeune's story starts with computers, but the siren's call of the seafood industry was too tempting not to take so he and his family went all in on buying and building up Market by the Bay ... and then the BP Oil Spill happens. Like almost all of the Gulf Coast at that time, LeJeune and his business take some pretty major hits but he accentuates the positives, eliminates the negatives and he don't mess with Mr. In-Between - until the Great Sign War of 2012. 'Twas a dark time in Olde Towne Daphne, with political signs for an upcoming election populating faster than Tribbles on the Starship Enterprise and a then city government displaying the municipal governmental equivalent of bipolar disorder in how they were choosing to address it. Enter Robin LeJeune, the People's Champion, who gathered together almost 100 members of the greater area business community to show how the city's hard-lining rules could and were negatively affecting business. And from those humble beginnings came the start of a political career that would lead to ... #TeamNoSpoilers. Y'all knew it was coming, but, honestly, Hizzoner the Mayor is such an engaging and enlivening storyteller that you really do want to hear it from him while he hangs out with our boys. Business, politics, seafood, a gumbo recipe the staff here would literally murder their family for ... a lagniappe of wisdom in this week's episode for all y'all listeners. And ain't nobody gonna judge you if you come back again for seconds. For more resources checkout our website, https://www.overlaplife.com

Overlap Episode 52: The Best of Overlap part 3
Who doesn't love a free sample? That Paco Rabane scent stick included in your favorite magazine, the tiny package of Tide in the Valpak in your mail that is maybe enough detergent to wash a single sock, the random aromatic meat with sauce in the plastic shot glass being handed to you by the smiling Sample Lady at Sam's Club ... you don't say no to any of them, especially the Sam's Club Sample Lady because Patricia is just trying to bless your day with some Szechuan chicken bites. This week, we return to our favorite show within the show with our favorite special guest host: it's another edition of "The Best Of" for The Overlap Podcast with Son of Keith Austin Glines back, back, back again to take us through the best of the past episodes with our boys Sid and Keith. In this third edition of "The Best Of," we'll be doing a deep dive into Dave Ramsey's "Entreleadership," as well as some classic conversations between our Overlap boys and our coterie of special guests about business integrity. We'll give you just enough of a taste with the clips you'll hear this week that you know you'll have to go straight to the full episodes to hear all the wisdom contained therein ... just like you would with the Szechuan chicken bites you got from ol' Patricia, since you know you went straight to the freezer section and grab a big ol' bag of them after that little taste. Patricia should get a raise for all this chicken she's selling through her push techniques. Maybe we need to have her come on the show ... Patricia clearly has selling skills. Y'all enjoy this week's appetizer episode and Bon Appetit. For more resources and for more info on our sponsors visit www.overlaplife.com

Overlap Episode 51: Flexibility, Adaptability, and Faith with Tim Samsom
What does Mister Fantastic from the comic books' famous Fantastic Four, Elastigirl from Pixar's "The Incredibles" movies, and Soviet Union Olympic gold medal grabbing gymnast Nadia Comaneci have in common that matters to your business? Cosmic superpowers, obviously. But how do you harness otherworldly superpowers to help your business thrive and grow? Well, first you'll need access to cosmic gamma rays, weapons grade uranium or whatever cocktail of anti-growth hormones they gave poor Nadia... Flexibility. The answer is flexibility, which is something that can be used and replicated in your business without getting radiation sickness or being put on some sort of government watchlist. On this week's Overlap Podcast, our boys Sid and Keith are blessed to have in house the Mogul of Malleability, the Abbot of Adjustability, the Foreman of Flexibility Tim Sansom, Director of Sales for Sexton Lawn and Landscape, First of His Name. Tim started from the bottom and now he's here, chock full of wisdom, truth and vital information for your everyday life. As Tim's career arc shows, flexibility is a key factor that will help you rise up in an organization. By showing willingness to step up to the plate and do what needs to be done, even if it isn't in your official positional roles, you show you have the skills, know-how and insight to be given more responsibilities and more opportunities for promotion, advancement and success. For so many of us, work becomes a daily chore, a quiet humdrum of mindless and endless ticking off of checklist boxes, a slow death by a million dull, boring paper cuts of adequacy ... that got dark. But, validly dark - we owe it to ourselves and our businesses to make sure we leave room for spontaneousness, whimsy, caprice and chicanery ... an openness and welcoming spirit that embraces the unknown and unforeseen. If you aren't willing to try new things or boldly go where no one has gone before, you're limiting your future possibilities for happiness and success in both business and in life. Tim and our boys will give you the tips, tools and tutelage you need to tack on and thrive. Turn on, tune in and listen up to this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast.

Overlap Episode 50: Creating Margin with Rick Miller
This week's episode of The Overlap is gonna have a little Old Home Week flair to the festivities, as Friend of the Show Rick Miller returns with his business coaching acumen and skill to help us all learn to master our margins Now, Rick isn't just a Friend of the Show – he's also the very first sponsor of our program and he's been a business coach to Sid for years and is currently coaching Keith (God be with him in that endeavor). Now, back to how to make margin … first, you melt the solid vegetable oil and place it over a bowl of ice, whisking the oil over the ice until the mixture starts to thicken. Then, take your milk and … apologies for the technical difficulties; that was how to make margarine. Margin is the space we don't know we need until we don't have it. Imagine if you will, a book with every single page completely filled with words, with no space at all between anything. You wouldn't be able to decipher a bit of it and it would lead to chaos, would it not? Well, if it's chaos there, then it stands to reason that same margin principle needs to apply to our own lives as well, as many of us are out there living in insane spaceless pages, going hour by hour and day by day filling ourselves up but not leaving that necessary space to breathe, reflect and process all that has gone on with us. The Miller Margin Method (patent pending) also applies to how you structure your work day and work flow for your business. You can put in the 12-hour day that is culturally expected for small businesses and startups, but are all 12 of those hours truly effective? How many of those hours are actually effective for making progress in your business rather than dealing with the tyranny of the emergent and the urgent? Coach Miller will lead us to victory this week in the Margin Bowl, so strap on your pads, throw on your jersey and let's play ball with this week's Overlap Podcast. Overlap Episode 49: Winning with Accountability
Weird 80s synth music starts playing, disco diva Tina Fabrique starts singing) "Butterfly in the sky... I can go twice as high... Take a look, it's in a book... It's..." With apologies to LeVar Burton, sadly, it ain't Reading Rainbow - it's Another Overlap Podcast Book Review. Today, our boys Sid and Keith will be talking through the book "Winning With Accountability," which is the first book that Sid requires folks in his company to read if they would like to take a step up within the organization, as the book helped address issues he was seeing in real time with his business. Years ago, he began to notice a communications gap in his company similar to what some of you may be seeing in your own companies. You ask a coworker, "Hey, Fred, when are you gonna get that report done I need?" And Fred, as Freds throughout time immortal have always said and always will say (forever and ever, amen), "Oh, yep. I'm about to start that and I'll get it to you as soon as possible." Tale as old as time, right? But though all the Freds are good and honorable people, that response gives no helpful information, nor does it give a timeline that can be used to hold Fred accountable. Hence today's book review, to give us the tools we need to deal with the Freds in our lives ... and, maybe, just maybe, along the journey, we'll discover that (plot twist) the issue was the Fred within ourselves all along. It's all about setting goals and standards that have actual accountability factors that you and your people can be held to, as well as setting clear expectations and ... #TeamNoSpoilers here, your free synopsis experience has ended. To learn more, you know what you have to do: tune in, turn it up and take it all down - this book review will be the best one you've encountered since you did that one back in the fifth grade about that Judy Blume book ... not THAT Judy Blume book ... the other one ... Overlap Episode 48:Deep thoughts on health and wellness with Dr. Amy Armstrong
Star Trek had Leonard "Bones" McCoy. Bewitched had Dr. Gordon Bombay. Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman had ... well ... Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. And, for this week's show, The Overlap Podcast has our own on-call medical maven who is always in the know - Dr. Amy S. Armstrong, co-owner of LaBellaRX in Daphne and the Medical Director for The Overlap Podcast (disclaimer: official office of Medical Director for The Overlap Podcast may not actually be an official position and would not entitle any potential officeholder thereof to any potential compensation said office may be entitled to, unless said potential officeholder accepts expired coupons to that Church's Chicken down the road that had closed down about three years ago). Dr. Amy returns for her second spin with our boys Sid and Keith to sit down and share about a plethora of points regarding fitness and health goals. And since Dr. Amy is board certified in Internal Medicine and former chief medical resident ... well, let's just say she certainly has earned her status as a content area expert, whereas our boys ... they know when to get out of the way and let the good doctor tell some important truths. Right out the gate, Dr. Amy and the Overlap Gang start lobbing truth bombs in an area people traditionally shy away from talking about: obesity and its role in chronic health issues. And obesity, much like an M. Night Shyamalan movie, will find some twist or turn to surprise you - like y'all skinny fat folks out there who look skinny but have a high body fat percentage. (Not trying to call anyone out; the person who writes these is regional undersecretary for the National Association for the Advancement of Fat People, so game recognize game.) And our own obesity issues often spill over into other folk's health as well - like Dr. Amy says in this episode ... ... ... did you really expect us to tell you? You know #TeamNoSpoilers is going to make you listen in to learn. (Muffled argument sounds in background, sounds of bottles being hurled and broken, table being flipped) Apparently, #TeamNoSpoilers has a bye week this week, since we're apparently giving y'all the first tip from this week's episode: identify your biggest obstacle to what is preventing you from having good health. Without knowing what's causing the problem, how can you be expected to figure out the best way to beat it? It takes time, introspection and self-evaluation to get to the heart of the matter and actually have the stomach to do what you need to do. And Dr. Amy goes into the battle that will face a lot of us as we try to make these positive changes, especially the very real struggle between Your Body and Artificial Sweeteners. The match of your life awaits you, so lace up your gloves, run up and down those art museum stairs in Philly a few times to "Gonna Fly Now," and have Burgess Meredith there to scowl at you from the corner and tell you you're a bum ... that bell is about to clang and those bad health habits don't play by the rules of the game. This week's Overlap is absolutely essential for your everyday life, so turn it on, tune in and listen up. (And just as an aside, can we all agree that the training montage in Rocky I would be better with "Eye of the Tiger" from Rocky III instead of "Gonna Fly Now"? I mean, I know Bill Conti wrote "Gonna Fly" specifically to be the theme and whatnot for the first film and that it gets used in various fashions between all the other films - even the Creed ones - but ... eh ... just doesn't slap as hard as Survivor's greatest hit.) Overlap Episode 47: EOS w/ Kim Coots.
We won't make you admit it, but we know we left you wanting more after last week's episode that enlightened you to EOS. Well, you lucky listeners, we've got you covered, smothered and topped (arguably also the best way to order your Waffle House hashbrowns in proper WH-approved lingo) with this week's special guest Kim Coots, a bona fide and certified leadership and success coach and EOS expert. Kim's credentials are certainly rock solid and fascinating, as you'll learn through her sitdown with our boys Sid and Keith. She created a start-up company in 1993 that became the 26th fastest growing company in the INC. 500 within five years, only to have to sell it out soon thereafter because of the lack of a firm business foundation. From there, she went to work for a $6 billion company to spearhead the launch of their international division and ended up staying for 10 years. She then progressed forward to becoming an "integrator" at a $5 million dollar company going through some truly terrible times - and that's where her life was changed by those three little letters you've come to know and need in your own business lives: EOS. Kim was in at the ground floor for the development of EOS, and now works full-time helping small businesses integrate and implement the procedures and protocols to make them profitable and prosperous. So, in short, we've got the content area expert on EOS that's been there since the beginning to answer our questions and help guide us all down the proper path. And you get to listen to this for free? Win, win. (But, if you wanted to do something nice to thank us, see the above parenthetical for our Waffle House order.) We considered giving you some of the definitions and high points with Kim's talk, but ... again #TeamNoSpoilers ... you genuinely should listen to this week's episode and get it all straight from our superb source. Overlap Episode 46: What the Hell is E.O.S.
(Cue the creepy "Do do do do - Do do do do" guitar music and a black and white Rod Serling-esque man steps into frame) Imagine if you will going to work at your typical office job - cubicle, creaky office chair that's seen better days, photos of your generic family and your 2.5 kids, desk ficus, a Dilbert comic strip or two posted on the wall of the break room ... the usual. Everything seems like it will just be another normal, uneventful day until the calendar alert tone rings on the phone. With increasing dread, you look down to see the five worst words in the English language staring back in your face: Company Meeting in five minutes. Chaos, confusion, frustration - every negative emotion starts coursing through your entire being, bubbling through your blood. Because, now, you find yourself in that place no one wants to ever be found - the Meeting that Should Have Been a Simple Email Zone. (Bongo drums outro) So, can you guess this week's topic? Maybe? You're astute people; we're sure you've got this. Our boys Sid and Keith take a trip of self-examination and rumination this week to discuss EOS, the Greek goddess of the dawn ... wait, wrong EOS ... EOS, the amazing 3-D printing company ... nope, not that one ... (shuffle papers) ... EOS, the people that make the lip balm that comes in the little pink egg thing? ... Ah, got it ... EOS, Entrepreneurial Operating Systems. Sounds way more fascinating than the other EOSes, doesn't it? (We couldn't take a nearly hour-long podcast about lip balm). EOS are essentially the Brussels sprouts of the business world: something that most of us hate but are somewhat necessary for a happy, healthy life. Our boys provide real-world examples from their own business experiences to illustrate how making the moves to have EOS in place now saves you from saying Sayonara to your smartest and savviest staffers. The biggest time suck and issue of them all in this realm (Cue the Twilight Zone theme again ... did the "Do do do do, Do do do do" sell that earlier?): meetings. That word can put more fear in your heart than being chased simultaneously by Jason Vorhees, Michael Meyers, the Predator, that murderous doll thing from Child's Play and all the Freddies Krueger. But, meetings may actually be made to be more manageable and meaningful than you might think (and with far fewer horror movie villains). How do you take your meets from mournful to magnificent? Well ... y'all really ought to know the drill by this point. Turn on, tune in and get our terrific tips for yourselves. #TeamNoSpoilersForLife

Overlap Ep. 45: Best Of Overlap Part 2
Cue EGOT Winner Marvin Hamlisch plunking away slowly in C Major at a piano, even though Babs wanted the song in a minor key. Nobody puts Hamlisch in a minor third.) "Memories... light the corners of my mind. Misty, watercolor memories... of the way... we were..." No, we're not talking to Barbra this week. Sorry to disappoint. But, now that you've already been floored by the lack of Streisand, have "No More Tears" and rejoice in the meaning behind the weird symbolism attempted above - we have to admit we're "Guilty" as we've got a clip show this week, you lucky "People." (How many Streisand songs can we reference here? You don't want to take the under on that bet, friendo.) This week, we "Send in the Clowns," our boys Sid and Keith, as we do a deep dive back to Episodes 6 through 10 and grab the best gobbets of wisdom from them because ... let's be real, the helpful hints found therein are "Evergreen." Our boys begin with looking back at their chat in Episode 6 with Justin Koen on how best to get buy-in from your employees. Given the Era of Economic Uncertainty we currently find ourselves in, that could be wonderful wisdom to have if you don't want your current, great employees to just be a "Memory." Episode 7, our boys wax poetic and ask themselves "What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life," dropping knowledge bombs about how to create the life you want. Since we're #TeamNo Spoilers, you'll have to actually listen to get these fun facts or you'll be "Left in the Dark." Episode 8, it's our old friend Mike Michalowicz and the Pumpkin Plan, where you go from "Just Leave Everything to Me" mode and learn how to take a business from the launch phase to soaring way up there in "A Piece of Sky." Don't get caught in the cycle of "Sell It, Do It, Sell It, Do It" (That's not a Streisand song - just a quote from the episode. Bet it would be a bop, though) - listen and learn how to make your business "The Best Thing You've Ever Done." Episode 9, we get to talk to a mentor of Sid's, Steve Bousquet, and gab about how "Being Good Isn't Good Enough" - you have to be open, honest and real with your employees or you'll be watching them go, quietly saying to yourself "I Won't Last a Day Without You." And, finally, Episode 10 - Are you still with us? "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" (You knew Yentl was coming) ... it's "The Second Time Around" for more awesome approaches for actualizing employee buy-in. Again, no more clues here, but trust us when we say the tips and tricks we've got here ain't no "Second Hand Rose." We know some of you may not love a clip show, but we say "Don't Rain On My Parade" because "Happy Days Are Here Again." So, "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" and enjoy this week's entertaining episode. (20, for those of you who don't want to count them up. But, "Don't Lie To Me," was it a bit much? ... 21.) Overlap Episode 44: Building a Leadership Pipeline
We know you couldn't get enough of last week's episode, so come along as we keep calm and carry on with our conversation on commerce, or, to be more clear in category, hiring a developing your current or desired business team. We know from last week's full court press from Dr. J that in our current climate, each and every enterprise is having to engage with less than ideal conditions when it comes to finding new hires and attempting to develop and train the good folks you already have. With the fog of uncertainty we all seem to find ourselves in these days, we're even seeing more and more people jump ship from their current jobs to new ventures and industries, so are you ready if one of your team leaves you or will there be a leadership vacuum in that loss? (You don't want to end up like Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes did after Teddy Pendergrass split from the group in '76 after a money dispute; it's a hard fall from gold records to slumming it on a 2017 Soul Train Cruise and having to do a wine tasting on the Lido Deck with Peabo Bryson getting top billing) Not to worry - our boys Sid and Keith are here to save the day and they've got another dynamic duo's decisive dissertation to direct you: Geoff Smart and Randy Street's "Who: A Method for Hiring." (Found where all books are sold and maybe your local library as well. Local libraries - they're not just places for the homeless to sleep or take sink baths; they also have books) Step One: Prime Your Pipeline. Examine the existing environment in your business by literally taking score: create a scorecard for your company's positions and have your employees, to paraphrase New Orleans rapper Mystikal, "Show me what you workin' with." By actually taking score, you really see who is doing what, who should be doing what and what might not be getting done at all. It's a good day when we get to use "Who" to help answer "What," isn't it? Step Two: Start the Search. Finding the fit that meets your needs is not going to be fast or easy, especially in this economy. Long story short: whatever you've done in the past probably isn't going to work or apply to current conditions; you've got to up your game and meet the market where it's at now. You're going to have to be out there and every day, you'll be hustlin' (like Rick Ross or Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony - your choice) and doing everything you can to find the best right people: marketing the opening, reaching out for referrals, and communicating the culture for your organization to complete your crew. Step Three: Improving the Interview. This one's actually incredibly simple: be intentional in your interviewing. Our boys have some primo practical pointers here and putting down anything more in these notes would violate our status as card-carrying members of Team #NoSpoilers. Step Four: Settle the Score. Yes, our simple scorecards from Step One are back again (like a horror movie villain or Jujubee on seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race ... four times is enough, queen). Using the scorecard helps eliminate the emotionality from the process, which you'll need to find the most excellent employee for the job. Of course, if you want the first-rate facts and most incomparable intelligence from this week's show, you're going to have to actually listen to the podcast - because, if you haven't learned by now, these show notes are, at best, loosely constructed outlines that occasionally tell you what the episode is actually about amongst a hodge-podge of alliteration, outdated pop cultural references and a surprising amount of facts about the life and career of Teddy Pendergrass - RIP to a real one. Overlap Episode 43: It's Not COVID's Fault with Dr. Josh Duplantis
Listeners, y'all are in for a real treat this week, as we have one of the choicest content-area cognoscenti on the Gulf Coast to talk on a topic that continues to be an increasingly important issue across the industries: hiring and developing your workforce. So, who did our boys Sid and Keith get to come dish on development? Honestly, we all knew there was only one man who could best answer the call - the Prince of Personnel, the Lord of Labor Studies, the Maharajah of Manpower ... it's Dr. Josh Duplantis, the Dean of Workforce Development for the Coastal Alabama Community College System, here to drop knowledge bombs on our boys (though we do somewhat question the mental acuity and judgement of someone who would publicly admit to having Sid as a good friend ... choices). On his house call to the podcast, Dr. Josh and our boys get into the nitty gritty behind what's wrong forthwith in the workforce world and what we would want to do to help our own businesses wind up with a win. Obviously, Dr. Josh and our boys have to talk about the elephant in the room of the world's current business situation - the ongoing workforce shortage - but Dr. J slam dunks the explanation on that in a way everyone can understand (even Keith) - the present problem in procuring people and pathetic participation is predicated on a pair of propositions: the en masse exodus of the Boomer generation from the workforce (Okay, Boomers ... as the kids say ... on the TikTak or the TickyTacky or whatever that video app nonsense is) and the walkout of women in the workforce due to childcare concerns thanks to COVID. And Dr. J has the receipts to back up his assertions - spitting fire facts like there are currently only 65 unemployed people to fill every 100 open jobs currently - you're gonna have shortages, son, when you don't have enough people to replace the ones who just noped out on the job market. Our boys and Dr. J will also get into the nooks and crannies of our culture (and the lazy basement-dwelling, neck-bearded, entitled as hell Millennials still livin' with their mommas), they do also get real and put some perspective on how businesses also need to step their game up when it comes to wages and benefits. And they'll even get into the tall grass and look at seemingly tangential items like the fertility rate and how it could affect our labor futures (And we can tell you why the birth rate stays so low - it's because there hasn't been a truly great baby-making song put out for the populace since the late, great Teddy Pendergrass released "Close the Door" back in 1978. Go listen to it. Tell us we're wrong ... See, Teddy P knows). So, how do we energize the economy and enliven our employees? Well ... you'll have to actually listen to this week's episode to get the best bits of brilliance from the Baron of Blue-Collars and Breadwinners (We knew we had one more in us). Listen up, listen well and listen often - we'll see y'all next week. (And, completely as an aside ... we may have erred in a previous statement. Teddy P did put out "Turn Off the Lights" as a B-side to "If You Know Like I Know" in 1979, and while we cannot currently verify the numbers on it, we do assume a large number of babies may have been made to that song. We appreciate the opportunity to correct our previous statement here and apologize for the error.)

Overlap Ep. 42: Health Goals
To quote every soccer game announcer ever - "GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!" Detecting a theme yet? If not, you may need to work on both listening and reading comprehension skills. No judgement - we all need help from time to time. This week, our boys Sid and Keith sit down with their personal sensei, the sensational Scott Miller, and talk about one of the most important goals you can set for yourself - health goals. Now, we know you've heard Scott (and about Scott) several times before on this podcast, but we keep bringing him back because he's a gentle guru of holistic health hints. If he can get Keith healthy, clearly the man has magical powers. (Plus, Sid's wife said our boys talked over him way too much in the last episode he guested on, so ... happy wife, happy life, folks) Now that we've reached the mid-Februaries, those #NewYearNewMe Health Goals may have slowed or hit the wall completely ... and they didn't break through like Kool Aid Man, did they? Not to fret - our Sultan of Strength Scott will speak on how to break down how to set real health goals and dispel the many myths surrounding commonly held health views that actually hold back more than they help. (Spoiler: everyone needs a coach. Even Ditka. Even Phil Jackson. Even Craig T. Nelson.) Action plans and accountability also abound, so be attentive, alert and able to take notes. Also a necessity - find a gym. No meaningful health journey ever actually started with a Nordictrack and a home gym (or whatever the modern Nordictrack is ... the bike thing with the video. Or that weird talking mirror thing. Hard pass.). Creating a home gym in your basement is the easiest way to tell the world you don't actually give a damn about your health or making a change. Don't believe us? Go check Facebook Marketplace for used home gym equipment ... seriously, go do it. We'll wait ... ... ... (Plays instrumental version of Air Supply's "All Out of Love") ... ... ... See what we mean? (But, for real, don't meet up with the guy with the Shake Weight post. We got a bad vibe off that one.) You've got the coach. You've got a gym. Now, because of the Rule of Threes, you have to have? No one? Bueller? Fine, we'll tell you - it's community. (Actual community, not the beloved NBC Dan Harmon helmed sitcom, though it is also necessary and vital*). By getting that coach, by actually going to that gym - you become a part of a community of people banded together by a shared need of bettering yourselves and one another - "one equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield" (I'm sure our boys would quote Tennyson if they'd thought about it). That created community is crucial to the creation and continuation of your health goals and your health in general. You need that gym fam to spur you on, raise you up, lift your spirits and guide your gains, be they physical, mental, spiritual or all of the above - these are the people you're going to grow to love (or at least tolerate ... looking at you, Madame Sexton). But, to Mr. and Mrs. America and All the Ships at Sea**, that's it for this week's show notes. No more #Spoilers for all of you; you'll actually have to listen to get the rest of this week's amazing anecdotes and applicable advice - because I'm tired and an episode of "Murder She Sat Down and She Wrote" just came on and who can resist Angie Lansbury? See y'all next week. *The views expressed in this parenthetical are not the express views of the Overlap's Podcast or our boys Sid and Keith. They grant me wide latitude with writing these shownotes and I am beginning to genuinely believe that they may not actually read them. Despite that, I've yet to include any major swear words or inflammatory statements, though one is tempted to try to get a fatwa declared by making mildly blasphemous statements about the Ayatollah or something. But, for real, Community is a great show ... for the first four seasons. After that, if the Spirit moves you, move with the Spirit. **If anyone actually gets this reference without Googling it, find me and receive $3.50 if you're right. Overlap Ep. 41: You're a Leader
We've gotten your emails. We've received your texts. We've taken your calls. We ... have blocked a few of your numbers - some of y'all need therapy, not a business podcast. But, we've heard the message loud and clear - y'all wanted more on the ancient art of goal setting, and who are we to deny the people what they want? Our boys Sid and Keith are giving you more, more, more (shoutout and apologies to the Andrea True Connection) this week with helpful hints and interesting insights about why we set goals. And they'll dive into the gritty truth about the true goal of setting goals - leadership, as we set goals because we are attempting to lead ourselves or others to aspire to and get to something better. We know what you're thinking - "But, guys, I don't consider myself a leader." Hogwash and poppycock, we say. Everyone can be and is a leader, whether you're in charge of 2,000 people or you're just in charge of yourself, you already make decisions and take actions that have an effect - you just aren't framing your worldview in such a way as to let you see the leader in you. Leadership is more than just a position - it's a state of mind that uses influence to create change, motivate movement and determine decisions. But you may ask yourself - "Self, what kind of leader am I?" Per the usual, our boys have got your back, giving you the bare bones breakdown of the types of leaders: the good, the bad and the ugly (Gotta love that Ennio Morricone score, right? Wah wah wah) The Bad: the laissez-faire leader (that's "hands-off" for you non-Francophones ... and, for Keith, Francophones means people who understand French), which has the upside of minimal interference with the obvious reactionary downside of not enough positive involvement (Case in point, Keith letting me write these podcast notes means I mock him openly in the parentheticals that he won't see until this is posted). The Ugly: the micromanaging leader, who operates out of fear and loathing of their employees and has more paranoia than Richard Nixon after a half a bottle of booze - they may know everything going on within the organization to even the tiniest degree, but that leaves them no time to make goals and chart direction. The Good: the Servant Leader (not like Mr. Belvedere, unfortunately) and the Extreme Ownership Leader, which ... (You know what. No. You have to listen to learn about these. If you want to know how to actually lead with purpose and precision, you're going to have to tune in. The cheat sheet ends here people.) Learn to liberate the leader in you and make those goals go golden in this week's episode of the Overlap Podcast. Overlap Ep. 40: Best Of Overlap
Do you remember our first few podcasts? Pepperidge Farm remembers... We're bringing the best of the best back this week with our first Highlight Reel Week here at The Overlap Podcast. Did you think we'd actually make it far enough to have enough episodes to have a clip show? Some of y'all owe some others of y'all some money on that one, but to quote the great Barry Manilow, it "looks like we made it." (Fun Fact - Sid's a secret Fanilow. Look it up. That's what they call themselves. Choices...) Instead of our boys Sid and Keith this week, you get one of our boys' boys - literally - Austin Glines, Keith's firstborn son, content creator, and current student pastor in Pryor, Oklahoma, at Your Place Church. And he's actually more pleasant to listen to than his father, so you're welcome, listeners. Austin will be taking you through the first five episodes of this epic podcast and showcase the best parts of the delightful discussions for you to hear, take and apply to your lives. You get the choicest cuts of counsel and advice without actually having to listen to the entire episodes in question (though, you really should listen to all of them). Overlap Ep. 39: Goal Setting
Happy New Year, friends and fans! (Since it's late January, are we still allowed to say that? Write us in the comments and let us know - we remain on the fence) Looking for help with your #NewYearNewMe resolutions and plans? Not to worry - our boys Sid and Keith have got you covered this week, as they discuss a forever favorite topic for them that will be as helpful to you here in January as it will be come the depths of December - goal setting. We all start the year with the best of intentions - losing that extra 15 pounds, vowing to work out more, eating healthier, learning a new skill, or growing our business - but as studies and social media show us, a lot of us don't end up making those good-intentioned goals because we can't scratch our way out of the surface level desires we have to achieve said goals. What did we miss? Our boys know the answer because they've been down this hole before and know how to get out - we probably failed to set a strategy. And, because of that, we get stuck in the same old rut we've come to know and expect out of life, complete with the worn-out, indented part of the sofa where we sit to watch our stories on the TV and eat pints of ice cream (that may just be me, to be honest. Ben and Jerry are constant companions and confidants). But, don't fret or fear fumbling - our hosts have hordes of helpful hints that will heal us, help us and hasten our hunt for health and happiness. The true thesis for this week - if you take nothing else from this brilliant broadcast - goals aren't wishes, so just doing a vision board, asking the universe for abundance or sacrificing small livestock in a ceremonial pyre isn't going to get you where you want to go. You have to be willing to answer the hard questions, dig deep within yourself and figure out a realistic way to achieve your aims (and check with your home owners association about whether you are allowed to have ceremonial fire pyres in your yard; if they won't let you have a decorative mailbox or fly your football team's flag, they probably don't want you sacrificing a goat ... just a hunch). A goal is a strategic plan, not a simple desire. We must begin to ask deeper, more specific questions that force ourselves to figure out how we are going to actually accomplish that goal. And this advice is evergreen for both personal and business goals. You can be killing it in the business world but have a Hindenberg disaster of a personal life because you've focused too much on building the business. Sid and Keith are here for you again, giving you that audial good good to live the life you long for but lack. Building a better you is the name of the game for this week's Overlap Podcast, so tune in and turn it up - you won't want to miss a minute of the delightful discourse and discussion. #NewYearNewYou #SameOldSidAndKeith. Overlap Ep. 38: Story Brand Continued CJ Ezell
Last week, you heard the book review; this week, our boys Sid Sexton and Keith Glines sit for a spell with self-described "serial entrepreneur" C.J Ezell of PointClear Networks and CrossBay Digital Marketing to talk about how he implemented and integrated Donald Miller's "Building a Story Brand" into his companies - you literally can't afford to miss the practical applications for your business life that you'll get from this week's show. Ezell has founded, owned and even sold several businesses in and around Coastal Alabama for over 20 years and his companies' impacts have reached across the U.S. and Canada. He has also gone the extra mile for his new role in assisting other people in launching their small business dreams by becoming a certified Story Brand guide, using the tenets from "Building a Story Brand," which our boys talked about in our last episode - synergy, baby! Woooooo! (Think Ric Flair on that one) C.J. and our boys teach and talk on marketing mistakes made by many in their push to find that Holy Grail of the "one-time fix silver bullet" marketing strategy for all that ails your business, which #SpoilerAlert doesn't exist and won't work well. Moving out your marketing campaign is one of the final steps - you've got to know who you are, what you're doing and where you want to go before you can even begin to market to your customers. Instead of treating marketing like some sort of dark, mystical magic or a lucky roll of the dice, listen to what our experts have to say on the subject that will change the life of you and your business (you really ought to know by now that we aren't going to give you every little gobbet here - you've got to listen for that good good). From selling products to the ever-important shifting of paradigms (gun to my head, couldn't tell you if paradigm shifts are good or bad .. maybe both or neither ... listen and write us to let me know), the concept of Story Brand Marketing brings home that killer key point that is vital information for your everyday life: your business in not the hero of the story - your customer is. Your business - well, you're Merlin ... or Glinda the Good Witch ... or Gandalf ... or Morpheus ... or Yoda ... you're the mentor archetype that has all the answers and attempts to guide them along their journey, whether it be to destroy the Death Star, become the one true king of all England, or ... buy some slacks. It's all the same. So, get ready for an adventure of auditory amazement in our epic sequel episode: Building a Story Brand, Part II: Electric Boogaloo (if anyone actually gets that reference, I'll bake you a cookie) BUILDING A STORY BRAND BY DONALD MILLER CONNECT WITH C.J. Episode 37: Build a Story Brand
Are you on pins and needles about your online presence and how best to present yourself and your business? Are you distraught about how best to distinguish your digital brand? Are you plagued by a pandemic of poor marketing decisions on your social media platforms? Worry not, dear friends - on this week's Overlap Life Podcast, our boys Sid and Keith are here to help you stop harming yourself, your business and your brand on them worldwide internet tubes... More than ever before, social media allows our businesses to be able to market directly to customers in a way that has never been seen before, but so many of us are sending out mixed social media signals and mangled, messy messages - in a world that is requiring clear communications and solid, immediate understanding of who we are and what we do as a business or professional. Our boys have got our backs, though, as they take us through Donald Miller's book "Building a Story Brand," a terrific tome to tout and teach from that we know will lead to tremendous turnaround for your social media marketing. Now, we remain staunch members of #TeamNoSpoilers , but Miller's Seven Frameworks that Sid and Keith will take us through will change your life in a positive and immediate way - like a tent revival preacher bringing you that good gospel fire outside your grandmother's little country church (Unlike the tent revival, there's no fried chicken waiting for us after the episode - we tried, but it just didn't scan or upload well... and, sidenote, anyone who knows how to get fried chicken out of a scanner, leave us some tips in the comments, please... I don't want to get fired). Listen and learn about who the hero of your business should be for you to reach the highest of heights - this week's episode is one for the ages. (And, seriously, please, if you are reading this, help us with this fried chicken in the scanner problem - it's starting to billow smoke now. Keith will literally murder me if he sees this ... and, yeah, in hindsight, probably shouldn't have added some potato salad in with it, too...)
