Episode 150 - Understanding, Managing, and Reversing Diabetes for Men Over 40
In 2021, over 38 million Americans (11.6% of the population) had diabetes, mostly type 2, while 97.6 million adults had prediabetes, a precursor to type 2 diabetes. Although millions of new cases are diagnosed yearly, particularly in those over 45, the condition is often reversible with lifestyle changes. In today’s episode, we’ll talk about the severe health risks associated with untreated diabetes and the need not only to understand and manage diabetes but also to take proactive steps to reverse it by adopting healthier habits. I’ll share my journey of helping my father control the condition, which has led to significant improvements in blood sugar levels.Additionally, we’ll discuss three common dietary mistakes many people with diabetes make and the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, proper nutrition, stress management, and sufficient sleep, in controlling blood sugar levels. If you or someone you know is dealing with type 2 diabetes, listen to the episode and check out our diabetes program to learn how you can potentially reverse diabetes rather than just manage it.Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to the podcast and coaching call06:31 How I helped my father take control of his diabetes17:15 What is type 2 diabetes?22:53 How diabetes develops: the role of blood glucose27:31 The complexity of glucose regulation30:18 Why we should eat carbs after a workout33:40 How a healthy lifestyle helps in blood sugar regulation37:27 Symptoms and risks of type 2 diabetes44:24 Common mistakes in diabetes management50:20 Animal protein helps regulate blood sugar1:00:39 The risks of eating "naked carbs"1:05:16 Managing diabetes through diet1:12:41 Healthy carbs and fats for diabetics1:15:58 Portion control and meal planning1:18:12 Supplements and lifestyle changesResources Mentioned in the Episode:Over 40 Alpha Podcast Episode 142: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/episode-142-reversing-insulin-resistance-for-optimal/id1446632685?i=1000659092041Over 40 Diabetes Solution:https://over40shred.com/diabetesSubscribe and Listen on iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-over-40-alpha-podcast/id1446632685 Listen to This Episode on Your Favourite Podcast Channel:www.over40alphapodcast.comYour support of the Over 40 Alpha Podcast helps to spread the word and ultimately change the lives of men worldwide over 40, 50, and 60 who struggle with health and fitness.I want to give a MASSIVE thanks to everyone stepping up and leaving 5-star reviews. Please Review and Share the Podcast Here: Drop that 5-star review.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-over-40-alpha-podcast/id1446632685Connect with Funk Roberts: Website - https://www.over40alpha.com/Instagram -<a...

What are some of the worst diets out there for men over 40? I'm Funk Roberts and my goal is to empower you with knowledge and tools to make informed dietary decisions that will positively impact your life. Sure, perhaps a Paleo diet worked for cavemen – but they only lived to 30, right? The negative impact of specific diets on your health and well-being, diets that are hyped up as quick fixes on social media, cannot be underestimated for men over 40. We're at that stage when we need to take our hormonal balance and cortisol levels into serious consideration as we aim for a diet that becomes a lifestyle. And so in this episode, I'm critiquing some of the more popular diets out there and looking at them from the perspective of a man in his 40s, 50s, 60s, or even 70s. A man who needs nutritional support to provide for his family. I understand that navigating the world of nutrition can be overwhelming, but I'm here to guide you every step of the way. In this episode I also offer the ultimate solution to optimizing your nutrition for long-term lifestyle success. Please join us."I just need to follow a nutrition lifestyle that supports my hormones, my metabolism, my overall health, my energy, my mind, my brain. And it's easy to follow because I don't have to count calories. I don't have to weigh my food. I don't have to restrict complete food groups. It's all balanced." ~ Funk RobertsIn This Episode: Addressing the harmful diets for men over 40Understanding hormonal changes and metabolism in midlifeWhat most fitness trainers DON'T understandThe consequences of unhealthy dieting habitsBalanced meal planning for men over 40What nutrition for men over 40 should actually involveSubscribe and Listen on iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-over-40-alpha-podcast/id1446632685 Listen to This Episode on Your Favourite Podcast Channelwww.over40alphapodcast.comYour support of the Over 40 Alpha Podcast helps to spread the word and ultimately change the lives of men all around the world over the age of 40, 50 and 60 that struggle with health and fitness.I want to give a MASSIVE thanks to all who are stepping up and leaving 5-star reviews. Please review and one share at a time.Drop that 5-star review: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-over-40-alpha-podcast/id1446632685Connect with Funk Roberts: - Website - https://www.over40alpha.com/- Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/funkrobertsfitness- Funk’s new book ‘Nutrition for Men Over 40’ - www.over40meals.com

Ep 118Episode 121 - Motivation VS Discipline | The Truth About Fitness
Most days, the gym is the last place I want to be. I'm talking about an 80% dread rate and a 20% enthusiasm rate. But you know what? I put on those sneakers and hit the gym anyway. No excuses, no complaints, just action. The problem is that many folks out there are chasing external motivation. They think they need a personal trainer screaming in their ear, or they're working out just to show off to that ex who couldn't see their worth. Truth be told, that's not the right path. Relying on external motivation is like building a barrier to hide from accountability. Today, I will tell you the essence of motivation and why it's the heartbeat of your fitness journey and life. It's as simple as this: Without motivation, you're running on empty. You won't find the energy to tackle those things you know you've got to do.We're going to school on motivation—what it really is, how to nurture it, and how it dances hand-in-hand with discipline and habits. This episode is your motivation masterclass, and by the end of it, you'll be ready to conquer the world. Let's dive in!“I’m gonna suggest to you that you can find motivation in discipline because if you rely on motivation entirely, you’re just gonna get tired, right? It’s not gonna work.” —Funk RobertsIn This Episode: What is motivation? Two different types of motivationHow to find your inner motivationThe connection between motivation, discipline, and habitsHow to become disciplined in nutritionWhy you shouldn’t focus on the scale to track your progressWhat to do once you reach your fitness goalsResources mentioned: - Previous episode about why you struggle with consistency (it’s connected with today’s topic) - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/episode-115-1-reason-why-you-struggle-to-stay-motivated/id1446632685?i=1000624226271 Subscribe and Listen on iTuneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-over-40-alpha-podcast/id1446632685 Listen to This Episode on Your Favourite Podcast Channe lwww.over40alphapodcast.comI want to give a MASSIVE thanks to all who are stepping up and leaving5 star reviews.Your support of the Over 40 Alpha Podcast helps to spread the word and ultimately, change the lives of men all around the world over the age of 40, 50 and 60 that struggle with health and fitnessPlease review and one share at a time.Drop that 5 star review.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-over-40-alpha-podcast/id1446632685Connect with Funk Roberts: Website - https://www.over40alpha.com/Instagram -<a href="https://www.instagram.com/funkrobertsfitness/"...

Ep 102Progressive Overload: The Science-Backed Foundation of Muscle Growth and Strength
Progressive overload is a fundamental training principle in strength training, muscle building, and athletic performance enhancement. Firstly, its base is that the human body adapts to stress. Therefore, to continually stimulate improvements in strength, muscle size, and endurance, you must progressively increase the stress on your muscles during exercise.Engaging in progressive overload ensures your body receives constant challenges, forcing it to adapt to higher stress levels. As a result, this adaptation process leads to increased muscle fiber recruitment and improved neural adaptations. Moreover, the adaptation process also generates physiological changes that contribute to greater strength, muscle growth and endurance.During this episode, I cover the many important aspects of this fundamental training principle. Implementing progressive overload will enhance your strength, muscle growth, and overall muscle performance. I hope this episode inspires you to try this fundamental training principle immediately. You won’t regret it. “Progressive overload is the science and the foundation of muscle growth and strength.” —Funk RobertsIn This Episode: How to find out your rate of perceived exertionConcept of progressive overload and its importanceBenefits obtained thanks to this training principleThe science behind progressive overload, including General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS)Breakdown of the 15 ways to implement this concept in your workoutsTips on incorporating progressive overloadResources: Join the Over 40 Alpha Brotherhood for just $1 – click here to start todayConnect with Funk Roberts: Website - https://www.over40alpha.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/funkrobertsfitnessSubscribe and Listen on iTuneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-over-40-alpha-podcast/id1446632685 Listen to This Episode on Your Favourite Podcast Channelwww.over40alphapodcast.com

Ep 101Episode 101 - 5 Hormones that Are Killing Your Testosterone Levels
EHormones are chemical substances that coordinate several functions in the body. They deliver messages to cells, tissues, and organs so they can perform their regular operations. Besides, hormones control metabolism, growth and development, homeostasis, sexual function, reproduction, mood, and the sleep-wake cycle. Male hormones, including testosterone, play a significant role in a male’s reproductive and sexual health. Unlike female hormones, men’s hormones remain pretty steady from adolescence until far into their reproductive years. However, imbalances in male hormones still occur, which can negatively affect health and cause several disorders. Understanding how lifestyle factors influence hormone health can help reduce these imbalances. It’s important to realize that there are factors that influence male hormone health. Men often think that bodily changes, such as weight gain, body pain, and muscle stiffness, are part of aging. But most of these symptoms are usually caused by a hormone imbalance.
