Ep 534Obnoxious Toronto Maple Leafs Fans
The Intriguing World of Sports Fandom: Lessons from a Hockey Game Night Experience Hockey games are more than just a battle on the ice; they're a mosh pit of emotions, societal norms, and unwritten rules that reflect much of what we encounter in our everyday lives. The casual conversational style of Mike and Toria's night at the game in The Nightly Rant offers a candid glimpse into the social dynamics of sports fandom and beyond. Here's what you can dive into in this thought-provoking discussion turned article. Key Takeaways: Scammers and Jokes: Humor can be a potent weapon against the daily nuisance of scam messages. Social Etiquette at Sports Events: The unwritten rules of behavior at sports events reflect broader societal expectations. Localized Fandom Vs. Generalized Behavior: Stereotyping based on a specific area's fans isn’t always accurate and can overlook individuals’ behaviors. Sports Scammers Be Gone: A Touch of Humor in a Scam-Heavy World The digital age has brought with it a surge of unsolicited offers and scam messages – a universal annoyance that many can relate to. Mike's tongue-in-cheek request for $400 million is a humorous nudge at these frustrating encounters. But there's more to the joke than just a chuckle; Mike’s reaction emphasizes the underpinning absurdity of such unsolicited offers and the power of humor as a coping mechanism. Yet, it also serves as a stark reminder of the digital dangers lurking behind each message and the need for continued vigilance in the online realm. "They said they could give me as much money as I need." "I need $1 million." "What I said was $400 million, not a penny less." These banter-filled exchanges not only lighten up a modern annoyance but also provide a compelling starting point for discussing this universal problem's broader implications. Etiquette and Entitlement: The Unspoken Rules of Sports Events In the highly charged atmosphere of a sports game, social etiquette can often take a hit. Fans' behavior embodies passionate support and, sometimes, unruly entitlement. Mike and Torya’s discomfort with individuals cutting in line offers a microcosmic view of larger social dilemmas – how individuals rationalize behaviors that breach collective norms and how those affected by such actions respond. "I guess you guys have the privilege tickets," says Mike, illustrating the tension between assumed privileges and expected social conduct. Even in spaces designed for leisure and entertainment, adherence to social norms remains contentious, revealing the intricacies of communal spaces and shared experiences. Beyond the Cheers: Understanding Localized Fandom Through the Lens of Behavior Stereotypes abound regarding sports fans, but the discussion opens a critical dialogue on regionalized behavior and the essence of fandom. The Toronto Maple Leafs fans behind Mike and Torya, boisterous cheers, and lack of sportsmanship symbolize the stereotype of obnoxious fans. Yet the mention of individuals on the outskirts of Toronto who are "the nicest people you'd ever meet" presents an essential contrast. "You've told me this about Toronto people in general for a long time. And I watch two YouTubers who live right on the outskirts of Toronto, and both of them are the nicest people you'd ever meet." This contrast urges the reader to consider if it's fair to paint all fans with the same broad strokes or if we should pause and reflect on the diversity of behaviors within any group. As the candid conversation concludes, the core themes resonate with a sense of familiarity and relatability. From the audacity of digital scammers to the pervasive sense of entitlement exhibited by some sports fans, the dialogue uncovers social dynamics that extend far beyond the hockey arena. The localized approach to fandom is debunked, revealing the nuanced and varied nature of social interactions and behaviors that defy stereotypes. The lighthearted and casual discussion leaves us with deeper reflections on societal norms, the ethics of behavior in communal spaces, and the complexities of identity within regional subcultures. Ep 533The Story of Masturbation Man and Speaker Love Affairs
Unveiling the Absurdities of Society: A Sardonic Exploration Through Personal Experience In the daily grind of public interactions, we are often met with behaviors that boggle the mind, challenging our understanding of common sense and ethical conduct. "The Nightly Rant," a podcast by Mike and Torya, dives into these experiences with a sarcastic flair. Its latest episode offers a scathing commentary on customer eccentricities, marketing ethics, and the peculiarities of Las Vegas living. This episode will resonate deeply if you've ever found yourself perplexed by the irrationality you see around you. Key Takeaways: The Public Eye: Witnessing illogical behavior in public can be both amusing and exasperating, providing endless fodder for those who thrive on societal critique. Marketing Misfires: The fine line between engaging marketing and perceived deception sparks heated debates and reveals individual thresholds for spammed patience. Vegas Vignettes: Las Vegas, a stage for some of the most unpredictable human antics, offers insights into the city's tolerance for eccentricity and overpriced norms. Societal Spectacles: More Than Just People Watching The podcast episode starts by discussing the bewildering encounters Mike and Torya often have when dealing with the public. Whether navigating the chaos at Costco or dealing with unreasonable return policies at Sam's Club, it seems common sense isn't so ordinary. Through these shared experiences, the hosts underscore one of their show's central themes: society's penchant for stupidity, or at least from their perspective. This theme resonates across many discussions, serving as a comedic yet sobering reflection on human behavior. "I mean, that constant…... We've talked about Costco and the supervisor at Sam's Club, who thought it was okay to force us to return something, get our money back, and then buy it at full price. There were all sorts of crazy things." The hosts don't just critique; they also empathize with listeners who share their bewilderment. This approach validates those who have had similar encounters and invites them to consider the broader consequences of such widespread irrationality. The Ethical Dilemma of Email Marketing In one segment, Mike recounts a recent incident in which he confronted someone who accused him of unethical email marketing practices. The dispute hinges on Mike's use of "Action Required" in a subject line for a leadership conference, which the critic deemed deceptive. Mike's response to this critique was both sarcastic and revealing, highlighting the subtle yet contentious aspects of marketing strategies. "How's the message that's friendly? So, without saying word for word what I said, I essentially told the guy... that in reviewing your account, I have multiple questions, like, you've received 23 emails… You never unsubscribed… What part of [Action Required] is dishonest?" Such experiences shed light on the subjective nature of marketing ethics and the expectations and thresholds that audiences have for promotional content. When delving into practices deemed acceptable by one party and fraudulent by another, the debate opens up broader considerations of transparency and the psychological tactics inherent in advertising. The Absurd and the Overpriced: A Glimpse into Vegas Culture The episode vividly paints a picture of Las Vegas as an adult playground and a microcosm of human eccentricities and tolerance for the unusual. The hosts recount an incident at Carnival Court, where they observed an individual partaking in strange behavior with the speakers and getting outrageously high. Torya highlights Vegas's knack for embracing such oddities as long as they don't bother other patrons. "But they let it be because he wasn't bothering anyone else. I guarantee you… he would have gotten tossed so fast." Moving from peculiar behavior to pricing absurdities, the hosts lament the exorbitant cost of simple club soda in a tourist locale. This anecdote emphasizes the city's reputation for overpricing and exploiting consumer assumptions that "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," including their money. The episode concludes by touching base on various projects and ends with the promise of more stories that explore the curious dynamics of Las Vegas living. Through their lens, listeners gain unique perspectives into a world where the odd is commonplace, and logic seems to take a backseat. As we digest these themes, it's evident that in-person or digital interactions often reveal a tapestry of human behavior riddled with contradictions and challenges. "The Nightly Rant" encourages us to observe, critique, and perhaps even laugh at the absurdities we encounter, offering a sardonic yet accurate reflection of the society we navigate daily.

Ep 532When You Let Their Fans Decide
Super Bowl Spectacle in Vegas: A Peek into the Heart of American Sports Culture In the heart of the desert, the glitz of Las Vegas paired with the razzmatazz of the Super Bowl created a spectacle like no other. While the city is no stranger to grand events, the arrival of the NFL’s biggest night offered a unique glimpse into the society's dynamics, fan enthusiasm, and the shifting landscape of sports entertainment. The sheer exhaustion coupled with the thrill of the Super Bowl in Las Vegas sets the stage for a night that Mike and Torya won't soon forget. Key Takeaways: The Super Bowl experience in Las Vegas presents a new benchmark in sports entertainment, combining the city’s hospitality prowess with the NFL’s meticulous planning. Fan behavior at these events underscores the need for sportsmanship and respect. The concept of live streaming workdays, as proposed by Gary Vee, is met with skepticism given concerns over privacy and the mundanity of everyday tasks. Super Bowl Week in Sin City: A Football Fiesta The Las Vegas Super Bowl Buzz Las Vegas, known for its endless entertainment options, embraced the Super Bowl week with both arms, bringing a myriad of events and fan experiences to life. Mike recounts the thrill of being in a city with a winning sports streak and how the NFL's presence turned the week into an "exciting but exhausting" marathon of festivities. From the Super Bowl’s "Opening Night" to the fan-centric activities at the "Fan Experience," Vegas offered a playground for football fanatics. Torya points out, "The average price that people paid to attend the Super Bowl was 10,000 and change" — a testament to the high stakes of the event. Mike describes the opening night as akin to Olympic ceremonies, marking the kickoff to the football extravaganza ahead. While the event had its hiccups, such as the issue with a spectator refusing to make way for others, the overall atmosphere was nothing short of electric, despite the noted rudeness of some fans. Navigating the Sea of Fans and Fervor Navigating through the sea of football fans is not without its annoyances, as demonstrated by a rather obstructive fan, with a "huge cardboard tray full of food", refusing to let Mike and Torya pass. Mike’s sarcastic retort, "shake your head a little harder and what little brains you have left will fall out", brings forth the sarcastic bite that sometimes becomes necessary in tightly packed, emotionally charged environments. The incident raises questions about courtesy during high-profile events and reflects the "main character syndrome," where individuals behave as if they are the center of their own universe. The Economic and Cultural Impact of Super Bowl LVII in Vegas Bringing discussions to a larger perspective, Mike and Torya touch on the significance of the Super Bowl's economic impact on Las Vegas. From the "Stanley cup champions last year", now to the Super Bowl, Vegas has indeed become "championville sports champion town." The influx of fans, the glamour of the city, and the discussions about future Super Bowls potentially having a permanent home in Vegas bring to light the intersection of sports, economy, and urban development. The Curious Case of Live Streaming Work Days A Bold Idea Met With Skepticism Gary Vee's suggestion for professionals to live stream their workdays for the year 2024 catches Mike’s attention. Initially intrigued, he rapidly turns critical. The reality of such pervasive streaming could threaten the privacy and functional routine of everyday business operations, not to mention the intense boredom of watching someone else's workday unfold in real-time. Torya chimes in with a more practical concern about the necessity of pants — a humorous yet valid point highlighting how live streaming could encroach on personal comfort and boundaries at work. Reflecting on the Broader Implications of Over-Sharing The live streaming proposition by Gary Vee opens up a broader conversation on the value of sharing and over-sharing in a society that is increasingly online. While there may be some merits in transparency and building a personal brand, constantly broadcasting one’s life, as Mike puts it, turns the world into a television show. This Truman Show-esque scenario begets the risk of blurring lines between private and public spheres. Mike and Torya caution against indiscriminate streaming, as the negatives seem to outweigh the perceived benefits. Super Bowl Game Day and Its Lasting Impressions The Thrill of the Game, Through the Lens of the Fans Mike’s initial ambivalence towards the outcome of the game settles into a supportive stance for the Chiefs, swayed by the behavior of the opposing fans. This sentiment represents how fan actions can influence neutral onlookers and their allegiances, showcasing the ripple effects of sportsmanship beyond the playing field. The game's pivotal moments, like the blocked point after the attempt, get dissected and discussed, emphasizing the technical aspects that c

Ep 530Fake Employee
The Nightly Rant: Insights from the Minds of Mike and Torya The latest episode of "The Nightly Rant" podcast with hosts Mike and Torya offers a candid reflection on society through a sarcastic and enlightening lens. The couple delves into various subjects, from neighborhood vigilance to the impact of consumer choices and expectations within online marketplaces. Enveloped in their personal experiences, their discourse is peppered with humor, skepticism, and a touch of the unconventional. Key Takeaways: Vigilance in local communities can uncover potential scams, as discussed through the hosts' confrontation with a suspicious visitor claiming to be from the power company. Consumer decisions in online marketplaces have significant implications, focusing on the balance between seeking deals and avoiding scams. Personal interactions with entertainment and local attractions provide unique insights into the Las Vegas lifestyle and highlight the varied interests of both tourists and residents. Local Vigilance Against Potential Scams One of the striking themes in the conversation is the importance of being vigilant in one's community. When Mike and Torya discuss the odd visit from a so-called “NV Energy guy,” their skepticism and quick thinking are instructive. Mike details denying access to a man with questionable credentials, reflecting a proactive stance that many listeners might find inspirational: "But this guy was just like, 'oh, okay.' And he just left because he knows that he doesn't want to put up a fight." Their discussion ventures into the broader implications of such incidents, encouraging listeners to question actions that don't match with known practices, as Torya points out: "And later we checked and found out that they will never send someone to your door about your account without notifying your equipment, without an advanced notification…" These precautionary tales remind us that in an increasingly interconnected world, staying alert to the motivations of those we encounter can prove crucial in shielding ourselves from deception. Navigating Online Marketplaces with Caution and Wisdom Mike's recount of their experience with an e-bike order illustrates another significant topic: the hazards and strategies in navigating online marketplaces. They emphasize the value of due diligence when dealing with seemingly lucrative deals: "…how is that Amazon's fault? You made the choice not to buy the Amazon's choice item." By sharing their missteps and recoveries, such as the e-bike turned tablecloth debacle, the hosts underscore the message that reflective consumer behavior is key to avoiding scams: "…we end up getting a Christmas plastic Christmas tablecloth for my $75." The dialogue serves as a stark reminder that in the digital economy, the allure of bargain prices often comes with greater risk, which can be mitigated by careful selection and verified payment methods. Embracing Entertainment: A Local's Guide to Las Vegas When dealing with entertainment subjects, particularly their approach to covering Las Vegas on their YouTube channel "What Happens in Vegas," the couple skilfully merges their personal passions with service to their audience. They don't merely showcase the strip; rather, they offer a valuable local's perspective: "One of our videos is five spots. Only locals know we're spilling the beans for you." Their narrative also exemplifies the diverse appetites of Vegas visitors, motivating locals and tourists alike to seek novel experiences beyond the common tourist traps: "…we expose find. One of the things I noticed that's different about our channel than other channels is we focus a lot on entertainment, right?" This refreshing take on a city famed for its spectacle illustrates the infinite layers of enjoyment a place can offer when viewed through the informed glance of its dwellers. As we've navigated through these compelling themes, it's evident that Mike and Torya's dialogue traverses more than surface-level rants. The societal reflections in "The Nightly Rant" offer listeners valuable paradigms on vigilance, consumerism, and entertainment. Whether we find ourselves judging an individual's motives at our doorstep, discerning the authenticity of a product online, or seeking off-the-beaten-path adventures in Sin City, the insights from Mike and Torya's world are not only amusing anecdotes but also lessons in navigating life's varied and often chaotic facets. Ep 529Rain in the Desert
Crafting Family Legacies: Navigating Inclusion and Inheritance In a recent podcast episode, Mike and Torya dove into a contentious family matter – the boundaries of inheritance and the complexity of defining family in modern times. Presenting an "Am I the Asshole?" scenario, they unpacked the nuanced dynamics of familial bonds, personal choices, and moral obligations when it comes to leaving behind a legacy for future generations. Key Takeaways: The definition of family in the context of inheritance can be controversial and delicate, particularly concerning adopted children. Personal judgments and historical family events can significantly impact decisions about inheritance. Open family communication may be crucial in inheritance planning to avoid future conflicts and misunderstandings. Defining Family Bonds Family lies at the heart of many personal decisions and judgments, and defining its boundaries can be contentious, as evidenced by the episode's discussion. On a surface level, the feud revolves around whether an adopted grandchild should inherit alongside their biological counterparts. However, delving deeper, the hosts question the essence of family – is it defined by biology, legality, or emotional ties? Mike emphatically argues for inclusivity, saying, "But I mean, what part of this would make him an asshole that he thinks they should treat her like a grandchild?" Yet, Torya's stance is more complex, as she brings personal experience to the table, arguing, "I'm coming at this from the perspective of being the grandchild that was not left the same things as other grandchildren because I was adopted." Moral Obligations vs. Personal Judgments The podcast illuminates the struggle between moral obligations to family members and the personal judgments that can tarnish such concepts. Mike voices discernment, noting that one's disapproval of an individual's past actions, no matter how severe, should not dictate the extent of familial inclusivity. Toria, though appearing sympathetic to the child's position, emphasizes the relevance of the existing relationship between the grandchild and grandparents, "It implies that there's no relationship," she states, delineating a potential reason the adopted grandchild may not be included in the will. The Essential Role of Communication The couple's debate reveals a critical factor in familial disputes over inheritance – a lack of open communication can lead to assumptions and misconceptions. While the son in the narrative argues for inclusivity, the grandparents' potential lack of awareness and understanding of the situation fuels the conflict. Mike spots this, questioning the reason behind the limited relationship with the grandchild: "But I want to know why there's no relationship." Implications of Exclusion in Family Legacies The Nightly Rant hosts do not just discuss a family disagreement but ponder the implications of exclusionary practices in family legacies. As families increasingly challenge traditional structures, the repercussions of excluding members from wills and familial definitions reverberate through social norms and relationships. With its intricate dialogue and opposing viewpoints, this podcast episode underscores the delicate balance families must strike between preserving legacies and embracing the evolving definitions of what constitutes a family. In navigating these treacherous waters, the primary takeaway is clear: Communication, open-mindedness, and empathy are essential to maintaining family unity and honoring each member's rightful place within the tapestry of legacy. Through these lenses, we can evaluate our definitions of family and the legacies we wish to leave behind for future generations TimestampSummary0:00:15Introduction to the show and topic of discussion0:00:26Comment on the rainy weather0:01:16Recalling previous experiences with cold weather0:03:08Description of the situation: son's adopted child not included in the will0:04:03Son's anger and parents' justification for excluding the adopted child0:05:12Clarification on the distribution of assets and lack of contact with the adopted child0:08:52Discussion on whether there are any assholes in the situation0:09:15Conclusion: Difference in opinions on who is the asshole0:10:17Final thoughts on the situation0:10:59Mike and Torya discuss the inheritance and cash for grandchildren's college0:11:22Mike asks Torya if he should disown his child for calling him by his name0:11:49Torya explains her perspective on the lack of relationship between Mike and his child0:12:21Mike expresses surprise at Torya's stance given her feelings about being adopted0:13:01Mike suggests that someone in the family is causing the rift in the relationship0:13:39Torya is not ready to label grandpa as the sole cause of the relationship issues0:14:09Torya suggests finding an heirloom to leave to the child to avoid drama0:14:26Mike questions why they didn't leave anything for the child if they wanted to cut off their s
Ep 528What A Way to Start 2024
Embracing Spontaneity: Navigating Life with a Sassy Twist in Las Vegas Las Vegas, a city synonymous with spontaneity and live entertainment, offers a unique backdrop for life's unpredictable moments. In this city, known more for its glittering Strip and 24/7 lifestyle, two hosts, Mike and Torya, navigate through the turns of daily living with a distinct blend of sarcastic humor and practical wisdom. Through their experiences, we delve into themes that resonate with anyone looking to find joy and balance amidst the chaos of the modern world. Key Takeaways: Patience is key when unexpected situations, like falling ill, disrupt everyday life. Las Vegas enables a lifestyle of spontaneity with a plethora of entertainment options. Taking breaks and engaging in hobbies are essential for personal growth and mental health. Overcoming Setbacks with Humor and Patience Life often throws curveballs, and how we handle them can have a lasting impact on our trajectory. When Torya fell ill at the start of 2024, it was a reminder of life’s unpredictability. Despite the sickness taking a toll on both hosts, they weathered it with sarcasm and patience, underscoring the belief that everything eventually aligns again, no matter the obstacle. "So we figured out that you had the flu. Do you know how ironic it would have been for the second December in a row to come home from eggworks and do a COVID test and be positive?" (Mike, [0:01:36]) This candid discussion illustrates the importance of acceptance and adaptability. Their approach also touches on a broader societal trend: with increasing life pressures, fostering a sense of humor and cultivating patience are vital skills for maintaining resilience. The Merits of Spontaneity in a City Built for Entertainment In a metropolis with endless possibilities, Mike and Torya outline the appeal of Las Vegas’s entertainment scene. What stands out is the city’s ingrained culture of spontaneity—whether it's the ease of attending live music events or the impulsive decision to enjoy a local sport. "We don't have to plan hours of travel time before and after… If we want to go see our favorite velvet Elvis, there's multiple locations we can go see them at, too." (Torya, [0:08:28]) The allure of spontaneity reflects the hosts' personal preferences and suggests a broader societal shift where people increasingly value experiences that require minimal planning. Living in a city that accommodates spur-of-the-moment decisions can be liberating and empowering, something that residents and visitors of Las Vegas know all too well. Importance of Recuperation and Engaging in Hobbies The discussion naturally evolves into the significance of taking breaks and the rejuvenating power of hobbies. Mike’s revelation about his improved guitar skills after taking time off is emblematic of the necessity for rest periods in an ongoing process. "I went more than a year without a real break… And then I came back, and I played two days ago, and I couldn't believe, like, my master of puppets was up, like, by 10%, speed wise." (Mike, [0:15:54]) This underscores a fundamental truth: scheduled downtime and engaging in preferred activities aren't just leisurely pastimes; they're integral to productivity and creativity. Whether it's playing guitar, quilting, or another pursuit, hobbies serve as a critical counterbalance to the demands of our daily lives. Mike and Torya conclude their conversation with a shared sentiment that the start of their year, though less than ideal, still promises a fulfilling time ahead. They champion a philosophy suggesting embracing life's challenges, interacting with one's surroundings spontaneously, and the integral role of hobbies in our well-being. Through their experiences, it's clear that whether you're overcoming adversity, reveling in the delight of serendipity, or seeking solace in personal interests, a measured response and a dash of good humor are the perfect companions on the journey through life. Ep 525A Strange Day in Vegas - Homeless Man, Selfie-Takers and Line Cutters
The Strangest Day: A Journey Through Bizarre Encounters In life, we often encounter the unexpected. Sometimes, these encounters are so bizarre that they leave us questioning the sanity of the world around us. Such was the case on a particular day when my co-host and I found ourselves in a series of strange situations. From encountering individuals with questionable fashion choices to witnessing a homeless man napping on the freeway, this day was filled with moments that left us scratching our heads in disbelief. In-Depth Exploration of Each Theme The Posing TikToker One of the first peculiar encounters of the day took place at a restaurant. As we sat down to enjoy our meal, three ladies entered the establishment. At first glance, they appeared to be dressed in formal attire, but upon closer inspection, it became clear that their fashion choices were a bit off. They wore long coats typically paired with dresses and heels, but instead, they were sporting baggy gray sweats. It was a bizarre combination that immediately caught our attention. What made this encounter even stranger was the behavior of one of the ladies. She began posing for what seemed to be a TikTok video, striking various poses and contorting her hand in peculiar ways. It was as if she was completely oblivious to the fact that she was in a public restaurant. We couldn't help but wonder what possessed her to engage in such behavior and why she felt the need to capture these moments on camera. The Homeless Man on the Freeway As we made our way to our destination, we encountered a sight that left us both concerned and bewildered. On the side of the freeway, there was a homeless man sitting with all his belongings. What made this situation particularly alarming was the fact that his legs were positioned towards oncoming traffic. It was a dangerous position to be in, and we couldn't help but worry about his safety. We immediately called 911 to report the situation, hoping that someone would come to his aid. However, the response we received was less than satisfactory. After being put on hold briefly, we were asked a series of questions about the man's appearance and mental state. It was disheartening to realize that this man's well-being was being reduced to a checklist of symptoms. Nevertheless, we hoped that our call, along with others, would lead to his rescue and a safer environment for him. The Line-Cutting Incident Our day took another bizarre turn when we decided to stop at a popular coffee shop. The line was long, as expected, but it seemed to be moving smoothly. Each lane had an equal number of cars, and everyone seemed to be following the unwritten rules of waiting their turn. However, one individual had a different idea. A woman in a hurry screeched to a halt in front of us, honking her horn and gesturing angrily. She claimed that someone had cut her off, but it was clear to everyone around that she was the one attempting to cut in line. We calmly pointed out that the line had been moving in an orderly fashion, with each lane taking turns. This only seemed to infuriate her further, and she continued to berate us. Analysis of the Implications and Potential Impact of the Themes These encounters may seem trivial on their own, but they reflect a larger issue in our society – a lack of consideration for others. The posing TikToker and the line-cutting incident both demonstrate a sense of entitlement and a disregard for the well-being and comfort of those around them. It is a reflection of a culture that prioritizes self-promotion and personal gain over basic decency and respect. The encounter with the homeless man on the freeway highlights the ongoing struggle faced by those experiencing homelessness. It serves as a reminder that there are individuals in our society who are in desperate need of assistance and support. It is a call to action for us to address the systemic issues that contribute to homelessness and to work towards creating a more compassionate and inclusive society. Conclusion and Future Outlook The events of this strange day left us with a mix of emotions – frustration, concern, and a renewed sense of empathy. It is important for us to reflect on these encounters and consider the impact of our actions on others. We must strive to be more mindful of the world around us and to treat each other with kindness and respect. As we move forward, let us remember the lessons learned from this day. Let us challenge the culture of entitlement and self-centeredness that permeates our society. Let us extend a helping hand to those in need and work towards creating a more inclusive and compassionate world. Only then can we hope to overcome the strangeness and embrace the beauty of the human experience. Thank you for joining us on this journey through the strangest day we've ever experienced. Remember, life is full of surprises, and it is up to us to navigate them with grace and understanding. Until next time, stay curious and keep questioning
Ep 524The Ethics of Filming in Public
Filming in Public: The Misconceptions One of the topics that came up during our conversation was the idea of filming in public spaces. We shared a story about a person who filmed a lady feeding ducks at a local reservoir and the ensuing confrontation when she noticed she was being recorded. The question arose: is the person filming the asshole in this situation? According to one comment we found, the person filming should respect the lady's wishes and delete the video if she doesn't want to be recorded. However, we disagree with this sentiment. As long as the filming is done in a public space and not for commercial gain, there is no legal requirement to obtain permission from individuals in the frame. As one of us pointed out, "You're in public. And unless the plan was to create a movie and sell tickets to the movie, you're just filming people out on the street. That's perfectly legal." Filming in public is a common practice, and people should not assume they have the right to control what others film in a public setting. The Mob Museum: A Fascinating Journey Our conversation then shifted to our recent visit to the Mob Museum. We were impressed by the museum's comprehensive exploration of the history and impact of organized crime in America. The exhibits showcased the rise and fall of various mob families, their involvement in illegal activities, and the impact they had on society. One of us mentioned, "I knew a lot of the stories about the mafia and whatnot. But you never know what's true and what's not. Then you go to this mob museum, and you get, like, this connection to it because they show you the things that they were into. And it was just like, I don't know, I was kind of blown away." The Mob Museum provided us with a deeper understanding of the mob's influence on American society. It highlighted their involvement in illegal gambling, their code of honor, and the ruthless consequences for those who crossed them. The museum's attention to detail and immersive exhibits made it a truly memorable experience. The Importance of Respecting Boundaries Returning to the topic of filming in public, we emphasized the importance of respecting boundaries. While it is legal to film in public, it is essential to be mindful of others' comfort levels. If someone expresses their discomfort with being filmed, it is considerate to either delete the footage or blur their face in post-production. As one of us mentioned, "It's just a matter of being respectful to that person's wishes." Respecting boundaries is crucial in maintaining a harmonious society, even if the law allows for certain actions. It is always better to err on the side of caution and show empathy towards others' concerns. The Future of Filming and Society Looking ahead, the issue of filming in public spaces will continue to be a topic of debate. As technology advances and cameras become more prevalent, it is essential to establish clear guidelines and educate the public about their rights and responsibilities. We hope that society can find a balance between personal privacy and the freedom to document and share experiences. It is crucial to respect individuals' boundaries while also recognizing the value of capturing and sharing moments that contribute to our collective understanding of the world. In conclusion, our sarcastic exploration of society led us to discuss the misconceptions surrounding filming in public spaces and our recent visit to the Mob Museum. We emphasized the importance of respecting boundaries and highlighted the need for clear guidelines in this evolving digital age. As we navigate the future, let us strive for a society that balances personal privacy with the freedom to document and share our experiences. So, until next time, stay sarcastic and keep questioning the world around you. From the smooth entry process to the incredible performances, they delve into the highs and lows of the event. They also touch on the importance of finding reliable transportation options and the impact of crowd behavior. Join us as we explore the themes and implications of this unique festival experience. Introduction: A Festival Filled with Insane Conversations The Nightly Rant is back with another episode, and this time, Mike and Torya are diving into their recent adventure at the When We Were Young festival. Known for their sarcastic point of view, the hosts take us on a journey through the ups and downs of this one-of-a-kind event. From the smooth entry process to the incredible performances, they provide an entertaining and insightful perspective on the festival experience. The Smooth Entry Process: A Pleasant Surprise Torya begins by sharing her initial concerns about the festival and the use of reseller tickets. However, to her surprise, the entry process was incredibly smooth, with minimal bottlenecks and efficient ticket scanning. She also highlights the unexpected bonus of receiving free water at the hydration stations, a rare occurrence at festivals. Mike adds that the festival organizers likely implemented these measures to prevent any public affairs nightmares and ensure the safety and comfort of attendees. The Importance of Reliable Transportation: Lyft vs. Uber The hosts then discuss their transportation options for the festival, specifically the use of rideshare services. Mike recounts his experience with Lyft, where he was quoted an exorbitant price of $344 for the pickup. Torya expresses her frustration with Lyft and their inflated prices, stating that she has lost faith in the service. However, they both agree that Uber provided a more reasonable option, costing only $26.05 to get to the festival. They emphasize the importance of finding reliable and affordable transportation, especially for large-scale events like When We Were Young. The Crowd: A Mix of Good and Bad Behavior Torya reflects on the behavior of the crowd at the festival, noting that while some individuals were courteous and respectful, others displayed entitled and rude behavior. She observes a pattern where younger and smaller individuals tended to be more belligerent and pushy in navigating through the crowd. Mike speculates that this may stem from a sense of entitlement or a belief that they can fit through smaller spaces without causing a disturbance. They both agree that the behavior of the crowd can greatly impact the overall festival experience. The Performances: A Lineup of Legends The hosts then delve into the highlight of the festival: the performances. They excitedly list the bands they watched, including All Time Low, Sum 41, Rise Against, Good Charlotte, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Offspring, Blink 182, and Green Day. They express their admiration for the bands' ability to entertain and engage the crowd, with Green Day being the standout performance of the night. However, they critique Blink 182 for playing too much of their new music, which didn't resonate with the predominantly older audience. They emphasize the importance of catering to the expectations of the audience at a festival like When We Were Young. Implications and Future Outlook: Lessons Learned As the episode comes to a close, Mike and Torya reflect on the lessons learned from their festival experience. They stress the importance of reliable transportation options and the need for rideshare services to offer fair and reasonable prices. They also highlight the impact of crowd behavior on the overall festival atmosphere and the need for individuals to be respectful and considerate of others. They express their hope that future festivals will take these lessons into account and strive to create a more enjoyable and inclusive experience for all attendees. Conclusion: A Festival Experience Worth Remembering In this thought-provoking episode of The Nightly Rant, Mike and Torya provide a comprehensive and entertaining analysis of their experience at the When We Were Young festival. From the smooth entry process to the incredible performances, they offer valuable insights into the highs and lows of the event. Ep 519Fair Weather Friends
The Nightly Rant: Fair Weather Friends and the Impact of Social Media Welcome to The Nightly Rant with your hosts, Mike and Torya. In this episode, they delve into the topic of fair weather friends and the impact of social media on friendships and relationships. They discuss the prevalence of unfriendly behavior on social media platforms and the need for self-reflection in these situations. They also share personal anecdotes and explore the importance of being able to share opinions in a friendship. Let's dive into the main themes of this thought-provoking discussion. Introduction to the Main Themes In today's society, the concept of fair weather friends has become increasingly relevant due to the rise of social media. People now have the ability to share every aspect of their lives online, which has led to the exposure of true personalities and the emergence of red flags in friendships. The hosts express their frustration with the unfriendly behavior they have witnessed on social media platforms, where people often belittle and berate those who hold different opinions. They emphasize the need for self-reflection and explore the impact of social media on friendships and relationships. In-Depth Exploration of Each Theme Theme 1: The Impact of Social Media on Friendships "People post everything online. They go crazy. And so it brings out red flags. You start to see red flags in people, and it's all because of social media. It really has brought out people's true personalities." - Mike The hosts discuss how social media has become an echo chamber, where people only interact with others who share their beliefs. This leads to a lack of tolerance for differing opinions and a tendency to attack and belittle those who hold opposing views. They highlight the negative impact this has on friendships and relationships, as people are quick to sever ties with those who don't align with their beliefs. They emphasize the importance of being able to have open and respectful conversations, even when opinions differ. Theme 2: The Need for Self-Reflection "Could I have done something different? That's what's frustrating about this to me, is the only thing I could have done differently is just keep my opinion to myself. And that's just not acceptable. So that's not going to happen." - Torya The hosts reflect on the situation that led to the loss of a friend over a difference of opinion on social media. They express their frustration with the expectation that they should have kept their opinions to themselves, as it goes against the essence of friendship. They emphasize the importance of being able to share opinions in a friendship and the need for self-reflection to determine if there was a reasonable way to fix the situation. They conclude that in this case, there was nothing they could have done differently without compromising their values. Theme 3: The Bluntness Excuse "People use the term 'I am blunt' so many times as an excuse to just be rude. It's not everybody, but it happens a lot. And people in that situation will just be like, 'Well, I'm just telling it like it is.' No, you're being rude and you're trying to stir up drama." - Mike The hosts discuss how some individuals use bluntness as an excuse to be rude and disrespectful. They highlight the importance of distinguishing between being blunt and being outright offensive. They share personal anecdotes about their own bluntness and how it can be received differently depending on the context and the relationship. They emphasize the need for tact and respect when expressing opinions, even if they are contrary to others' beliefs. Theme 4: Business Funding Assholes "Don't mess with us. Because when you mess with us, we have legit, legal, above board ways of returning the favor." - Mike The hosts share a humorous anecdote about dealing with telemarketers offering business funding. They discuss the importance of staying calm and composed in such situations, as it allows for quick wit and clever comebacks. They emphasize the need to assert oneself without resorting to rudeness or aggression. They highlight the power of legal and legitimate means of dealing with unwanted interactions, such as blocking and sending error messages. Analysis of the Implications and Potential Impact of the Themes The themes discussed in this episode have significant implications for friendships and relationships in the digital age. The prevalence of unfriendly behavior on social media platforms can lead to the erosion of trust and the breakdown of friendships. The hosts emphasize the importance of open and respectful communication, even when opinions differ. They highlight the need for self-reflection and the understanding that differing opinions do not necessarily make someone an enemy. The bluntness excuse is also explored, with the hosts emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between bluntness and rudeness. They stress the need for tact and respect when expressing opinions. Additionally, t
Ep 518Don't Touch My Emotional Support Horse
The Nightly Rant: Exploring Society's Quirks and Challenges Welcome to The Nightly Rant, where we examine society from a sarcastic point of view. In today's episode, we dive into a range of topics, including the challenges faced by service animal owners, the entitlement of some individuals, and the curious case of Wally the emotional support alligator. Join us as we explore these themes and their implications on our society. Introduction: Navigating the Quirks of Society The Nightly Rant is a show that delves into the idiosyncrasies of society, offering a sarcastic perspective on the challenges we face. In this episode, we tackle several thought-provoking topics, including the experiences of service animal owners and the entitlement of individuals who believe they have the right to touch someone else's pet. We also touch upon the curious case of Wally the emotional support alligator, which has sparked both outrage and fascination. Let's dive into these themes and explore their implications on our society. Theme 1: The Challenges Faced by Service Animal Owners One of the hosts shares a personal experience at Walmart, where their service animal was approached and touched by three children, despite clear instructions not to pet the dog. The host recounts their frustration and the mother's refusal to control her children. They express their concern for the safety of their service animal, as any sudden movement or distraction could have serious consequences. The host questions their own actions and wonders if they were in the wrong for asking the mother to control her children. "I asked them kindly at first to go back to their mom and stop petting my guy as he has a job to do. The kids didn't care. I got frustrated very quickly with the situation and told the woman to control her kids now and I have to have them stop petting my animal." Theme 2: The Entitlement of Individuals The conversation shifts to the entitlement of individuals who believe they have the right to touch someone else's pet without permission. The hosts express their disbelief at the audacity of people who disregard clear instructions and boundaries. They highlight the fact that a dog, regardless of its nature, is still an animal and can react unpredictably. They draw parallels to personal possessions, emphasizing that just as one wouldn't touch someone else's iPhone without permission, the same courtesy should be extended to pets. "What kind of bitch ass motherfucker thinks that they're entitled to pet someone else's dog?" Theme 3: The Curious Case of Wally the Emotional Support Alligator The hosts briefly touch upon the case of Wally the emotional support alligator, whose owner attempted to bring him to a Phillies game. They discuss the polarizing reactions to this incident, with some people supporting the owner's right to bring their emotional support alligator, while others find the idea absurd. The hosts highlight the owner's gracious response to the rejection, as they accepted the decision and moved on with their life. They speculate that the owner may be invited to a box seat at a Phillies game, which would provide a controlled environment for Wally and appease both the owner and the public. "Who am I to judge? I mean, we have a chameleon and we have a bearded dragon. People probably think we're insane. I think we're insane. It is what it is, man." Implications and Potential Impact The themes discussed in this episode shed light on the challenges faced by service animal owners and the entitlement of individuals when it comes to interacting with other people's pets. By exploring these topics, we can gain a deeper understanding of the need for respect and boundaries in our society. The hosts' experiences highlight the importance of following instructions and recognizing that animals, even those with a friendly demeanor, can still pose a risk if provoked or distracted. The case of Wally the emotional support alligator raises questions about the boundaries of emotional support animals and the accommodations that should be made for them. While some may find the idea of an emotional support alligator absurd, it is essential to respect the rights and needs of individuals who rely on these animals for emotional support. Finding a balance between accommodating emotional support animals and ensuring the safety and comfort of others is crucial. Conclusion and Future Outlook As we conclude this episode of The Nightly Rant, we reflect on the themes discussed and their implications for our society. The challenges faced by service animal owners and the entitlement of individuals highlight the need for respect, boundaries, and understanding. By recognizing the importance of following instructions and respecting the rights of others, we can create a more harmonious society. The case of Wally the emotional support alligator serves as a reminder that our society is diverse, and individuals have unique needs and preferences. While it may be easy to dismiss
Ep 517Answer the Questions
The Nightly Rant: Examining Society from a Sarcastic Point of View Welcome to The Nightly Rant with your hosts, Mike and Torya. In this show, we take a sarcastic look at society and dive into various topics that provoke thought and conversation. Today, we want to discuss the importance of being prepared to answer questions and engage in meaningful dialogue when expressing opinions publicly. We believe that adults should act like adults and handle disagreements in a mature manner. Let's dive into the details. The Importance of Being Prepared to Answer Questions Mike: "People in general should not ask questions unless they're prepared to hear any answer." Torya: "I'll take what you just said a step further to also include stating your opinion publicly." Mike: "If you state your opinion publicly on something, then you need to be prepared to answer questions. Some people are going to be confused. You put your opinion out there that that is influential. It means something. I don't care who you are. Be prepared to answer questions. That's all." Torya: "Influences at least one other person in the universe." Mike: "Be prepared to answer questions. That's all I ask. Is that bad?" Torya: "Well, why are you asking the questions? What is your goal with asking people questions about their opinion?" Mike: "To understand their viewpoint on that issue." Torya: "Because to tell them how wrong they are, that they're dumb or that their opinion is factually incorrect. No." Mike: "In fact, usually these days especially, I will say your opinion is completely valid, but it isn't one that I completely connect with because I don't understand this aspect." Torya: "Can you explain?" Mike: "And I blah out whatever the question is and then they attempt to answer. And most times they don't even attempt to answer because they don't care. They just growl back at you and it's like, no, I was truly trying to understand where you were coming from." Torya: "Well, then if your intention is to just understand, then no, right, you're not doing it." Mike: "Exactly. There's nothing wrong. Then if your intention is to drag them into a trap and then pounce on them and beat them to death, yeah, that'd be pretty wrong." Torya: "Or at least mean and nasty. Sure." Mike: "Which is wrong sometimes." Torya: "It's fun." Mike: "Well, it can be. I won't lie. It can be." Torya: "Especially when somebody has a really obscure and ridiculous and factually incorrect opinion. But I digress. We don't need to go there." Mike: "Well, yeah, and why can't somebody disagree about that and not make it be such a big deal? I mean, come on, there's a specific incident in my head. And the minuteness of the topic, if you think about it, it was like less than a grain of sand in the grand scheme of everything. Right?" Torya: "We've had disagreements about things way bigger than that and laughing together about something else five minutes later." Mike: "Nothing. That's like nothing. That's what I'm trying to say. It's like fart dust is a bigger deal than that." Torya: "Fart dust pretty bad." Mike: "And yet people who are allegedly adults make it about them and, oh, we need to quit the friendship. And that's literally what people do these days. Grown ass adults. Yeah, grown ass adults just leave and don't talk to you anymore. They don't have even the balls to say I'm going to say it. They don't even have the balls to say, fuck you." Torya: "Wow." Mike: "They don't have the balls to say anything. Yes, I'm the reason never for the E. It's always all me now." Torya: "I feel like all the words are fair game, though." Mike: "But here's the thing. It's like they don't even have the guts to say goodbye. Like, I'm done. That's a woosy move. I mean, those are the kind of people that disappear from their family, too. No BS." Torya: "I had a great idea earlier, and I was thinking that it'd be great if society would just chew up these cocksucking assholes that you're describing. The people who don't function as part of society because they're just too fucking wrapped up in their own self." Mike: "Yeah, they're not adults." Torya: "Chew them up and shit them out into outer space using the Earth's giant rectum. Yeah, the Earth is going to grow a giant rectum and it needs to shit these people out because they're destroying." Mike: "The world in many senses of the word. Yes, they are." Torya: "They're the most hostile people yet. They're the people who will call everybody else hostile." Mike: "Well, and that's the thing. There's also this issue where adults can't be adults, they just can't. Like we're talking about ghosting. That's not an adult move ghosting people. That's a little baby's move ghosting." Torya: "Right?" Mike: "Oh, where's your friend Johnny? Oh, I don't talk to him anymore. It's what the little kid does. It's not what an adult does." Torya: "Right? And then there's poor Johnny crying in the corner because he doesn't know why nobody likes him. And also, Johnny will continue to be
Ep 516A Tale of Computer Woes and Customer Service
The Frustrations of Dealing with Technology: A Personal Journey Welcome to The Nightly Rant, where we examine society from a sarcastic point of view. If you enjoy insane conversations, this is the show for you. Today, we dive into the frustrations of dealing with technology, as experienced by the host, Mike. Introduction to the Main Themes In this episode of The Nightly Rant, Mike and Torya discuss their recent experiences with technology and the frustrations they encountered along the way. Mike, a technology guy, shares his journey of dealing with a malfunctioning computer and the subsequent challenges of finding a replacement. The main themes that emerge from their conversation are the difficulties of troubleshooting computer issues, the challenges of navigating return policies, and the importance of customer service in resolving these frustrations. Troubleshooting Computer Issues Mike begins by recounting his initial concerns about his computer's performance and his prediction that it was on the verge of dying. He explains his reliance on Dropbox and external hard drives for data storage, which alleviated some of the stress associated with potential data loss. However, when his computer failed to boot up, he was faced with the daunting task of troubleshooting the issue. He describes his attempts to diagnose the problem, including checking the CPU, heat sink, and RAM sticks. Despite his efforts, the computer remained unresponsive, leading him to conclude that the motherboard was the culprit. Navigating Return Policies With the realization that his computer needed a new motherboard, Mike and Torya embarked on a journey to find a replacement. They decided to purchase a pre-built computer from a local store, Sam's Club, due to its competitive pricing. However, they soon discovered that the in-store price was significantly higher than the online price. Frustrated by this discrepancy, they opted to order the computer online for in-store pickup. Little did they know that this decision would lead to a series of delays and miscommunications. The computer was not ready for pickup within the promised timeframe, and their attempts to contact the store were met with unhelpful responses. Eventually, they decided to return the computer and seek a refund. The Importance of Customer Service Upon returning the computer to Sam's Club, Mike and Torya encountered a manager who was dismissive and unhelpful. The manager cited store policies and berated Mike for his assumptions about return policies. Frustrated by this encounter, Mike requested a refund of his membership and expressed his dissatisfaction with the treatment they received. However, another manager intervened and provided a more empathetic and understanding response. This manager acknowledged the flaws in the previous manager's approach and worked to find a solution. Ultimately, Mike and Torya decided to take their business elsewhere and found a more positive experience at Best Buy, where they received helpful and attentive service. Analysis of the Implications and Potential Impact The frustrations experienced by Mike and Torya highlight the challenges that consumers face when dealing with technology issues and navigating return policies. The lack of transparency and consistency in pricing, as well as the varying levels of customer service, can lead to significant frustrations and dissatisfaction. These experiences have implications for both consumers and retailers. Consumers may become wary of purchasing electronics due to the potential for defects and the difficulties associated with returns. Retailers, on the other hand, risk losing customers and damaging their reputation if they fail to provide satisfactory customer service. Conclusion and Future Outlook The frustrations encountered by Mike and Torya serve as a reminder of the importance of customer service and transparency in the technology industry. As consumers become increasingly reliant on technology, it is crucial for retailers to prioritize customer satisfaction and provide clear and consistent return policies. Additionally, consumers should be proactive in researching and understanding these policies before making purchases. By addressing these issues, both consumers and retailers can work towards a more positive and seamless technology experience. In conclusion, the frustrations of dealing with technology can be overwhelming and time-consuming. The challenges of troubleshooting computer issues, navigating return policies, and receiving satisfactory customer service can leave consumers feeling frustrated and dissatisfied. However, by advocating for transparency, consistency, and excellent customer service, both consumers and retailers can work towards a more positive and seamless technology experience. Ep 515Dr ChatGPT
The Power of ChatGPT: A Breakthrough in Medical Diagnosis Welcome to the Nightly Rant with your hosts, Mike and Torya. In this episode, we delve into the incredible power of ChatGPT and its ability to diagnose medical conditions. We explore a real-life story of a young boy who saw 17 doctors over three years for chronic pain, only to find the correct diagnosis through ChatGPT. Join us as we discuss the implications and potential impact of this breakthrough in medical diagnosis. Introduction to the Main Themes In recent years, ChatGPT has gained immense popularity and recognition for its ability to provide accurate and insightful information on a wide range of topics. From answering trivia questions to generating creative writing, ChatGPT has proven its versatility and intelligence. However, one area where its potential impact is truly groundbreaking is in the field of medical diagnosis. In this episode, we discuss a remarkable story of a young boy named Alex who suffered from chronic pain for three years, visiting numerous doctors without finding a diagnosis. It was only through the use of ChatGPT that his mother, Courtney, was able to find the correct diagnosis of tethered cord syndrome. This story highlights the power of artificial intelligence in assisting medical professionals and potentially revolutionizing the way we approach healthcare. In-Depth Exploration of Each Theme Theme 1: The Frustration of Misdiagnosis Courtney's journey to find a diagnosis for her son's chronic pain was filled with frustration and disappointment. She visited 17 doctors over three years, each specializing in different areas, but none were able to provide a comprehensive diagnosis. As Courtney recalls, "No matter how many doctors the family saw, specialists would only address their individual areas of expertise." This fragmented approach to healthcare often leads to misdiagnosis and prolonged suffering for patients. Theme 2: The Role of ChatGPT in Diagnosis Courtney's desperation led her to try ChatGPT as a last resort. She entered all the information she knew about her son's symptoms and medical history, including MRI reports, into the artificial intelligence platform. ChatGPT suggested a diagnosis of tethered cord syndrome, which made sense to Courtney. She then joined a Facebook group for families of children with the same condition and scheduled an appointment with a new neurosurgeon. The doctor confirmed the diagnosis, stating, "Here's occuluspinal bifida, and here's where the spine is tethered." Theme 3: The Limitations and Advantages of ChatGPT While ChatGPT proved instrumental in Alex's diagnosis, it is important to acknowledge its limitations. The AI platform does not have access to data before 2021 and relies on the information provided by users. However, as Torya astutely points out, ChatGPT has the ability to reach the deepest corners of the internet and match every symptom, something that no single doctor can do. Additionally, ChatGPT lacks the ego and preconceived notions that can sometimes hinder human doctors' ability to think outside the box. Theme 4: The Potential Impact of ChatGPT in Healthcare The story of Alex and Courtney raises intriguing questions about the future of medical diagnosis. Could ChatGPT be used as a supplement to human doctors, providing them with additional insights and possibilities? While it is essential to have trained medical professionals overseeing patient care, the use of AI in diagnosis could potentially lead to more accurate and timely diagnoses, reducing the suffering of patients and streamlining the healthcare system. Analysis of the Implications and Potential Impact of the Themes The story of Alex and Courtney showcases the immense potential of ChatGPT in the field of medical diagnosis. By leveraging the power of artificial intelligence, patients and their families can access a vast amount of medical knowledge and potential diagnoses that individual doctors may have overlooked. This democratization of information empowers patients to take a more active role in their healthcare and advocate for themselves. Furthermore, the use of ChatGPT as a diagnostic tool could potentially address the issue of misdiagnosis and reduce the time and resources wasted on unnecessary tests and treatments. By providing doctors with a comprehensive list of potential diagnoses, ChatGPT can assist in narrowing down the possibilities and guiding medical professionals towards the correct diagnosis more efficiently. However, it is crucial to recognize the limitations of ChatGPT. It should never replace the expertise and experience of human doctors. Instead, it should be seen as a valuable tool that complements and enhances their abilities. The collaboration between AI and human doctors has the potential to revolutionize healthcare, leading to more accurate diagnoses, improved patient outcomes, and a more efficient healthcare system. Conclusion and Future Outlook The story of Alex and Courtney serves as a
Ep 514Jasper Has Emergency Surgery
A Tale of a Cat and a String "So what's 155 inches long and cost $5,000?" asks C. "The piece of string we had surgically removed from the inside of our cat last week," replies Torya. And so begins the story of Jasper, affectionately known as Mr. Purrs, and his recent health scare. It all started when Jasper began vomiting for two straight days. Concerned for his well-being, we rushed him to the vet, where an X-ray revealed a linear object in his colon. Little did we know that this object would turn out to be a 155.5-inch long piece of white thread. "He unthreaded the sewing machine and took it off himself," Torya explains. "A sewing machine that was somewhere where he shouldn't have been in the first place." The vet suggested keeping Jasper overnight to hydrate him and see if the thread would pass naturally. However, the next day brought more complications, including a fever and high calcium levels. It was clear that surgery was necessary to remove the foreign object from Jasper's insides. The Decision-Making Process The vet presented us with two options: an ultrasound or surgery. Surprisingly, she recommended surgery as the first choice, acknowledging that the diagnostic test would likely lead to surgery anyway. This honest approach was refreshing, as it saved us from unnecessary expenses and allowed us to focus on Jasper's well-being. Less than two hours after the phone call, Jasper was undergoing surgery. The vet successfully removed the 155.5-inch thread from his insides, and we were relieved to hear that there were no lacerations or visible damage to his intestines. Jasper's Road to Recovery Jasper's recovery has been a rollercoaster of emotions. From his initial sassy attitude to his dramatic demands for attention, he has kept us on our toes. But despite his mischievous behavior, we can't help but be grateful that he's back to his feisty self. "He's been a right menace today," Torya admits. "Yesterday, if I didn't pet him every 3 seconds like he demanded, he would knock things off my table, including full cans of soda into my power strip." But amidst the chaos, we can see that Jasper is healing. He's slowly returning to his normal routine, demanding pets and attention in his own unique way. And while he may still have a few more days of medication and a cone of shame to contend with, we have hope that he will make a full recovery. The Importance of Supportive Friends In times of crisis, the support of friends can make all the difference. We were fortunate to have the guidance and expertise of our vet, who not only provided excellent care for Jasper but also offered us honest advice and support throughout the process. But it wasn't just our vet who provided support. Our friend Brian Little and his podcast, Your Favorite Blockhead, have been a source of entertainment and comfort during this challenging time. We encourage you to check out his show, where he weaves together peanuts and MMA into one amazing podcast. Reflections on Life's Ups and Downs Jasper's journey reminds us of the unpredictable nature of life. One moment, everything seems fine, and the next, we're faced with unexpected challenges. But it's how we navigate these challenges that defines us. Through Jasper's ordeal, we've learned the importance of being proactive and seeking help when needed. We've also come to appreciate the resilience and strength of our furry friends, who can bounce back from even the most difficult situations. The Future Outlook As Jasper continues his recovery, we look forward to the day when he can finally have his stitches removed. We remain cautiously optimistic, knowing that the next few days are crucial for his well-being. But with the support of our vet, the love of our friends, and the determination of our feisty feline, we believe that Jasper will come out of this stronger than ever. In conclusion, life is full of ups and downs, and it's how we handle these challenges that truly matters. Whether it's a 155.5-inch thread or a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, we must face them head-on with resilience and determination. And with the support of friends and loved ones, we can overcome anything that comes our way. So, as we bid you goodnight, we encourage you to cherish the moments of joy, navigate the challenges with grace, and always remember to lend a helping hand to those in need. Because in the end, it's the connections we forge and the love we share that make life truly worth living. Goodnight, everyone. Thank you for listening to The Nightly Rant. Ep 513Nightmare Marketing
The Nightly Rant: Unmasking the Soulless Vultures of MLM Welcome to The Nightly Rant with your hosts, Mike and Torya. In this episode, we delve into the world of multi-level marketing (MLM) and the soulless vultures that prey on unsuspecting individuals. Brace yourself for a sarcastic and insightful exploration of this notorious industry. Introduction: The Perennial Season of Crazy People Mike and Torya kick off the show by acknowledging the prevalence of crazy people in society. They humorously note that while election time in the United States may be the peak season for craziness, crazy people seem to be a constant presence in our lives. This sets the stage for their discussion on MLMs, which they aptly describe as "soulless vultures." The Melaleuca Flashback: A Scam by Any Other Name Torya shares her encounter with a Facebook post promoting an opportunity for stay-at-home moms and dads to set up shopping accounts for people. Immediately, she is reminded of her traumatic experience with Melaleuca, an MLM company that disguised itself as a legitimate business opportunity. Mike chimes in, recalling how they were assured that it wasn't MLM, only to discover that they were being roped into a pyramid scheme. The MLM Scam Resurfaces Torya's skepticism leads her to comment on the Facebook post, asking if it's another Melaleuca scam. The poster denies the association and attempts to defend the opportunity. Undeterred, Torya stands her ground, expressing her disdain for MLMs and their deceptive tactics. The conversation escalates as other MLM representatives jump in, aggressively promoting their own "opportunities." The MLM Messenger: A Lesson in Ignorance To Torya's surprise, she receives a direct message from the original poster, who seems oblivious to the fact that Torya had openly criticized MLMs. The conversation takes a comical turn as Torya sarcastically asks if the messenger's head is made of sand. The messenger's response, claiming that Torya is not serious, only serves to highlight the absurdity of the situation. The Facebook Strikes Back Torya exercises caution in her response, mindful of the potential consequences of her words. She manages to convey her disdain for the MLM opportunity without violating Facebook's terms of service. However, the messenger takes offense and promptly blocks Torya. This incident serves as a reminder of the limitations imposed by social media platforms and the need to tread carefully when expressing opinions. The Las Vegas Rental Scam: A Tale of Deception Torya shares another encounter, this time in a local Las Vegas group. She stumbles upon a post advertising a five-bedroom house for rent in Summerlin, a prestigious neighborhood. Suspicious of the unbelievably low price, Torya investigates further and discovers that the post is a scam. The scammer had used a distribution engine to spread the fake listing across multiple platforms, preying on unsuspecting individuals. The Implications of MLMs and Scams Mike reflects on his personal experience with MLMs, acknowledging that while some people have made money through these ventures, the majority end up losing more than they gain. He highlights the deceptive practices employed by MLMs, such as exaggerating the potential earnings and downplaying the risks involved. The allure of quick wealth often blinds individuals to the reality of MLMs, leading them down a path of financial ruin. The Power of Gut Instinct Torya interjects, emphasizing the importance of following one's gut instinct when it comes to MLMs and scams. She regrets not trusting her instincts earlier and falling victim to the Melaleuca scam. Mike echoes her sentiment, acknowledging that their experience with MLMs taught them the value of skepticism and critical thinking. They encourage listeners to trust their instincts and be wary of any opportunity that seems too good to be true. The MLM Paradox: Success Stories vs. Exploitation Mike acknowledges that there are individuals who have achieved success in MLMs, but he questions the ethics of profiting from a system that relies on the exploitation of others. He draws a parallel between MLMs and the infamous "water filter" scheme he was once involved in, where he made a significant profit within a short period. While the products may be of good quality, the underlying structure of MLMs raises ethical concerns. The Rise of Genuine Alternatives Torya shares her positive experiences with companies like Avon and Meyers, which offer legitimate business opportunities without resorting to MLM tactics. She emphasizes the importance of transparency and honesty in business, highlighting how these companies have managed to thrive without resorting to deceptive practices. Mike agrees, noting that there are legitimate ways to make money without preying on others. Conclusion: A Call to Reject MLMs In conclusion, Mike and Torya urge listeners to be vigilant and skeptical when approached with MLM opportunities. They emphasize the need to
Ep 512Extreme Beliefs Meet the Real World
The Lack of Open-Mindedness in Society Mike: You know, there's definitely no shortage of opinions around here. Torya: Is there really a shortage of opinions anywhere? Mike: Well, there's definitely no shortage of them here. Torya: Seems like most people here agree except some idiot, one small group of idiots. Mike: The problem is that the small group of idiots grows bigger and bigger because nobody ever speaks out against them. We're not in California anymore. Torya: Plenty of people speak out against the group of idiots here. Mike: I don't usually see it. The same group of idiots runs the asylum here. They just have some stuff that they've done in the course of the history of the state that has set up perma laws that can't be revoked. It's weird to me that the legislature is dominated by Democrats, but then they elected a Republican for governor against an incumbent Democrat. Torya: Can't you see what people are sick of? Mike: It's just weird, isn't it? It's almost like the voters said, "Alright, the Democrat had a chance. He didn't do such a great job. Let's let the Republican try." It's weird, right? Torya: Better than what California does, which is just keep electing the same idiots over and over again. Mike: Well, it's too soon to tell. The local type of people seem to have their act together. But let's talk about the recent controversy surrounding Alex Jones and Roseanne Barr's event called Reawaken America. The First Amendment and Public Permits Mike: The city granted a permit for the Reawaken America event, which features conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and others. Some people are demanding that the permit be revoked because it's held on public funded property. However, the city has made it clear that they have an obligation to uphold the First Amendment and ensure that all citizens, regardless of their views, have access to public spaces for public expression. Torya: Public safety is the city's top priority, and they are vigilant with third-party rentals. Mike: Exactly. The city's statement clearly states that they are not affiliated with the event and that permits are based on content-neutral and equal opportunity criteria. As long as the criteria and requirements are met, the city does not discriminate against those wishing to lawfully assemble. The Absurdity of Political Extremism Mike: It's absurd how people handle disagreements today. If you disagree with someone politically, they want you to disappear. They want to live in an echo chamber where everyone agrees with them. It doesn't matter if you agree with them on 99.9% of the issues. If you disagree on one thing, they label you as the enemy. Torya: It's ridiculous. People are quick to label others as Trumpenz or libtards based on one disagreement. It's like they can't comprehend that you can have different opinions on different issues. Mike: That's why I appreciate the Libertarian Party's approach. They have their platform, and they want you to mostly agree with it. But they're more accepting of differences on non-essential issues. They understand that people can have different opinions, and that's okay. Torya: Unfortunately, the major political parties are not like that. They want everyone to believe exactly what they believe, and if you don't, they try to shut you up. Mike: It's getting worse and worse in this country. People are losing the ability to have civil discussions and respect differing opinions. It's a dangerous path we're on. The Impact on Future Generations Mike: I feel sorry for the kids being born today. The direction this country is going is not good. The lack of open-mindedness and the intolerance for differing opinions will only lead to more division and hostility. Torya: It's disheartening to think about the future. People are so quick to dismiss others based on their political beliefs. We need to learn to have respectful conversations and find common ground. Mike: Absolutely. We need to remember that free speech is free speech, even if we disagree with it. We can't let political extremism divide us further. It's time to embrace open-mindedness and respect for differing opinions. Conclusion and Future Outlook In conclusion, the lack of open-mindedness and the intolerance for differing opinions in society is a growing concern. People are quick to label and dismiss others based on their political beliefs, leading to further division and hostility. It's important to remember that free speech is a fundamental right, and we must respect the right of others to express their opinions, even if we disagree with them. The future outlook depends on our ability to have civil discussions, find common ground, and embrace open-mindedness. Let's strive for a society where differing opinions are respected and valued. Ep 511Gone Rouge!
The Weird and Wonderful World of Las Vegas: A Sarcastic Examination of Society Welcome to the Nightly Rant with your hosts, Mike and Torya. In this show, we take a sarcastic look at society and explore the weird and wonderful aspects of the world we live in. Today, we delve into the peculiarities of Las Vegas, a city that never fails to amaze us with its unique quirks and idiosyncrasies. Living in California for most of our lives, we thought we had seen it all when it came to weirdness. But moving to Las Vegas has opened our eyes to a new level of strangeness. As Torya points out, having lived in California, a place known for its eccentricities, we thought we knew what true weirdness was. However, Las Vegas has proven to be a whole different ballgame. One of the first things we noticed about Las Vegas is the city's heavy reliance on tourism. With so much of its economy tied to visitors, it's no wonder that numerous rules and regulations are in place to protect the tourism industry. For example, we discovered that the walkways between casinos are private property and can be shut down anytime. This level of control over public spaces is something we have never encountered before. Another interesting aspect of Las Vegas is the strict regulations on street vendors. We recently came across an article about a street vendor arrested following a police altercation at the famous "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign. The vendor was charged with battery on a police officer, violation of mobile food vendor regulations, operating without a license, obstructing a police officer, and resisting detainment. Upon further investigation, we learned that the same officer had stopped the vendor twice in two days for illegally selling food as a street vendor. The officer asked for a valid license, but the vendor only presented one from California, not Nevada. This led to a confrontation where the officer pulled out a Taser. The vendor was eventually arrested, and it was later discovered that he was in the country illegally and would be deported. Now, it's important to note that we don't condone illegal activity or support the mistreatment of individuals. However, this incident highlights law enforcement's unique challenges in a city like Las Vegas, where tourism is paramount. The rules and regulations surrounding street vendors are in place to protect the tourism industry, and understandably, the officer would take action when faced with a vendor operating without a license. But what struck us as particularly interesting is the reaction of some individuals who defended the vendor, arguing that he was just trying to make money for his family. While we empathize with the desire to provide for one's family, it's crucial to recognize that there are legal channels to do so. By bypassing the proper immigration process, the vendor put himself in a precarious position and ultimately faced the consequences. This incident is just one example of the weirdness that permeates Las Vegas. From the eclectic acts that perform at the city's amphitheater to the neon foam parties that attract a niche crowd, Las Vegas embraces its quirkiness with unabashed enthusiasm. It's a city where anything goes and where the unusual is celebrated. But what does all this weirdness mean for society? On one hand, it adds to the allure and excitement of Las Vegas, attracting millions of visitors each year. On the other hand, it raises questions about the balance between individual freedom and the need for regulation. How do we ensure that the city remains a vibrant and unique destination while maintaining order and protecting the interests of its residents and visitors? As we navigate this strange and wonderful world, it's important to approach it with an open mind and a sense of humor. Las Vegas may be weird, but it has endless possibilities and unexpected adventures. It challenges our preconceived notions and forces us to question the status quo. In conclusion, Las Vegas is a city like no other. Its peculiarities and eccentricities make it a fascinating and captivating place to live and visit. From the strict regulations on street vendors to the bizarre acts that grace its stages, Las Vegas embraces its weirdness with pride. As we continue to explore this unique city, we must remember to approach it with a sense of curiosity and a willingness to embrace the unexpected. Who knows what other strange and wonderful surprises await us in the future?
Ep 510Korean BBQ and Going to Canada
The Nightly Rant: Exploring the Quirks of Korean Barbecue and a Trip to the Great White North Theme 1: The Quirks of Korean Barbecue Mike and Torya share their experiences at a Korean barbecue restaurant and discuss the peculiarities they encountered. They start by highlighting the way they were treated differently as white customers. Torya humorously remarks, "They treat you like you're some dumb white person who's come into their place and has no idea how to deal with their culture or way of cooking." One particular quirk they discuss is the restaurant staff's constant adjustment of the grill temperature. Torya explains, "They walk by, and everyone who works there that walks by looks down at the grill and lowers it." This behavior frustrates Mike and Torya, leading them to turn the grill temperature back up continuously. Torya even confronts one of the staff members, politely asking her not to touch the temperature. However, the staff member holds a grudge and continues to lower the temperature whenever she passes by. Mike speculates that the staff may assume that the white customers are burning their food and want to prevent it. Torya agrees, saying, "They assume that our food is burning, and they just want to adjust it to ensure it doesn't burn." However, they agreed it would be easier if the staff asked about the grill temperature instead of assuming. Theme 2: A Week in the Great White North Mike and Torya then discuss their recent trip to the Great White North. They describe the smooth travel experience, except for a long line at the car rental center. Torya highlights the pleasant interactions with the car rental staff, emphasizing their friendliness. During their trip, they visited various places and enjoyed the company of their children. Torya mentions how she observed her children's reactions to the sights they visited, capturing their genuine interest on video. She is satisfied with their behavior, stating, "It was quite a pleasure to travel with them this time." They also recount their visits to different waterfalls, including the Lumbrick Falls, which they humorously call "southern Alberta's miniature Niagara Falls." They discuss the hikes they took to explore these falls, with Torya comparing one of the paths to a hike they did in Pasadena. They note that the paths in Canada are less maintained, possibly due to a lower fear of lawsuits compared to the United States. Theme 3: Culinary Delights and Misadventures Mike and Torya share their culinary experiences during their trip. They mention their son, Mitchell, choosing a Japanese curry katsu place for lunch, which they found to be delicious. Torya also recalls enjoying nachos at a pub and the unique experience of being in a dog-friendly establishment. They also discuss their search for the team store in Calgary, which proved challenging due to misleading directions. Despite the confusion, they found the store and explored the various sports teams represented there, including the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Hitmen. Theme 4: The Allure of Korean Barbecue Returning to Korean barbecue, Mike and Torya express their love for the Hanu Korean barbecue restaurant in Las Vegas. They praise the quality of the meat and the exceptional service, particularly the staff's continuous offers of more meat. Torya notes, "They're continually coming back and saying, 'Would you like more brisket? Would you like more of this? Would you like more of that?'" They compare this experience to other Korean barbecue places with a time limit but do not actively offer more food. Torya finds it interesting that Hanu Korean barbecue breaks this norm by continuously offering additional servings. They both agree that the restaurant provides a unique and enjoyable dining experience. Implications and Potential Impact The discussion on Korean barbecue and the trip to the Great White North highlights the quirks and delights of different cultural experiences. It sheds light on how customers are sometimes treated differently based on their ethnicity and the assumptions about their preferences. The continuous adjustment of the grill temperature at the Korean barbecue restaurant raises questions about communication and cultural understanding. The trip to the Great White North showcases the beauty of Canadian landscapes and the enjoyment of exploring new places with loved ones. It emphasizes the importance of creating lasting memories and appreciating the genuine reactions of family members. The culinary experiences during the trip demonstrate the diversity of food choices and the pleasure of trying new dishes. It also highlights the impact of good service and its role in enhancing the overall dining experience. Ep 509The Titanic and Las Vegas Police
Today, we want to discuss a movie that our host, Mike, absolutely refuses to watch a second time - Titanic. According to him, it's the worst movie he's ever seen, and he finds it to be a dumb movie that tries too hard to be creative with the story. But that's not all, we also touch upon the recent incident at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, where a man went on a rampage, throwing furniture and other items out of a hotel window. This incident raises questions about law enforcement and the overall state of society. So, let's dive into these topics and explore them from a sarcastic point of view. The Titanic: A Movie Mike Will Never Watch Again Mike starts off the discussion by expressing his disdain for the movie Titanic. He firmly states, "I will never watch the Titanic a second time. No, not going to happen. Worst movie I've ever seen. Terrible movie." He goes on to criticize the movie for its attempt at creative storytelling, calling it a "dumb movie." Mike also mentions the infamous submarine created by a group of people who wanted to explore the wreckage of the Titanic. He sarcastically remarks, "Then go where it's supposed to go and tell people what you got to tell them, because I don't know the damn story." This leads to a brief discussion about scuba diving and the dangers of exploring the depths of the ocean. The Recent Incident at Caesar's Palace The conversation takes a dark turn as Mike brings up the recent incident at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. He describes how a man barricaded himself in a hotel room and proceeded to throw furniture and other items out of the window, causing chaos in the pool area below. Torya expresses her disbelief at the man's actions and questions why he would draw attention to himself in such a way. They discuss the potential danger posed to people in the pool area and the lack of care shown by the man. Mike mentions that the man's credit card will likely be charged for the damages caused, adding another layer of consequences to his reckless behavior. Law Enforcement and Society The discussion then shifts to law enforcement and its role in society. Torya expresses her frustration with the police's failure to enforce traffic rules, citing an incident where a driver ran a red light right in front of a police officer without any consequences. She argues that the lack of enforcement leads to anarchy and a disregard for the law. Mike agrees, stating that the purpose of enforcing laws is not to prevent people from breaking them, but to make them think twice before doing so. They both criticize the media for often portraying the police in a negative light, despite the hard work and training they undergo. Torya acknowledges that there are some bad apples in every profession, but overall, she believes that the police in Las Vegas are well-trained and do a good job. The State of Society The hosts reflect on the state of society and the prevalence of violent crimes in Las Vegas. They discuss how crimes in the city tend to be more extreme, with perpetrators going all-in rather than engaging in petty crimes. They mention a recent incident where a fender bender escalated into a shooting, highlighting the senseless violence that can occur. Torya expresses her anger and frustration at such acts, questioning the motives behind them. She concludes by stating that she takes calculated risks when going out in public, understanding that there is always a level of danger present. Ep 508Crazy Vegas Drivers!
We've talked about this before, but it seems like the problem is only getting worse. We're talking about the idiot drivers here in Las Vegas. They are a breed of their own, not in a good way. They have no regard for traffic rules or the safety of others on the road. "They're so bad they can't drive," says Torya, and I couldn't agree more. We've witnessed some truly mind-boggling incidents on the road. The other day, we were stopped at a red light in the turn lane when a car behind us got impatient, roared around us, and turned on the light from a non-turn lane. It's as if they have no concept of basic traffic laws. But that's not all. A few days later, we were heading out to Summerlin when a car in front of us at the off-ramp decided to go while the light was still red for us. It's insane how these drivers think they can do whatever they want without consequences. And that's the scary part. What happens if they meet the wrong person on the road? Road rage was a big deal in California, and we've seen news stories of drivers threatening each other or even resorting to violence. Just recently, we witnessed a horrifying incident here in Las Vegas. While driving to the new McDonald's, we noticed flashing lights and police cars surrounding a bluish-silver vehicle. It turns out that the driver of that car had gotten into a road rage incident with someone else, and that person pulled out a gun and shot the driver and his six-year-old daughter. Thankfully, they survived with non-life-threatening injuries, but what kind of person does that? What could possibly justify shooting at a car with a child inside? It's beyond comprehension. As Torya rightly points out, "I can't believe how low you have to go when you shoot at a six-year-old girl or anybody for that matter." It's a despicable act that leaves a lasting impact on the child and the entire family. We can't help but wonder what leads someone to such extreme actions. What could the other driver have done to provoke such a response? But even if they did something annoying, nothing justifies pulling out a gun and shooting at a child. It's a testament to the darkness in some people's hearts. As we reflect on these incidents, we can't help but feel a sense of frustration towards the general state of driving in Las Vegas. It's not just the occasional road rage incident; it's the everyday recklessness that risks innocent lives. We've experienced tailgating, speeding, lane weaving, and the blatant disregard for traffic signals. It's a constant source of anxiety and danger on the road. So, what can be done about this madness? We believe there are a few steps that can help address the issue. First and foremost, the loopholes in the law that allow drivers to weasel their way out of tickets need to be closed. If someone is driving dangerously or breaking the rules, they should face the consequences, plain and simple. Secondly, law enforcement should prioritize the most dangerous driving behaviors. As Torya suggests, they should pick the top five offenses and enforce them rigorously. This targeted approach would ensure that the most egregious violations are dealt with promptly. And as revenue from these fines increases, more resources can be allocated to enforcing other traffic laws. But it's not just about enforcement; it's also about education and awareness. We need to educate drivers about the importance of following traffic rules and the potential consequences of reckless driving. Public awareness campaigns, driver's education programs, and community initiatives can all promote safer driving habits. Ultimately, it's up to each individual driver to take responsibility for their actions on the road. We need to remember that driving is a privilege, not a right. We have a duty to ourselves and others to drive safely and responsibly. It's time for YPN people to wake up and realize the impact of their actions. In conclusion, the madness of crazy Vegas drivers on the road is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. The reckless behavior and disregard for traffic laws put innocent lives at risk. It's time for stricter enforcement, closing legal loopholes, and increased education to promote safer driving habits. Let's strive for a future where road rage and dangerous driving are a thing of the past. This revelation caused Mike to find the situation humorous, and they joked about it with their friend. They then talked about their newest friend, Douglas, whom they call Dougie or Doug. Douglas J. Dog is a 20-pound terrier-poodle mix who is very affectionate and loves to be petted. He was rescued from a shelter, and his owners immediately noticed that he seemed grateful for their kindness and was affectionate. They were curious if he was only being affectionate because they rescued him or if this was his true personality. To find out, they invited a friend over. Doug immediately climbed into her lap and leaned on her. She expressed a desire to take him home with her, proving that Doug's affection was genuine and not only because he was rescued. They also recalled a time when they had a driver who smoked a joint right before they got in the car. They discuss their experiences taking Uber and Lyft rides in the past. During holidays, they noticed that the prices would increase drastically. They also had trouble getting drivers during the pandemic. Uber was around 20% more expensive than usual, while Lyft was 500% more expensive. On Saturday, they did their usual morning routine with their dogs, giving them extra love since they would be alone for a while. Her father divorced her mother when she was ten and chose to prioritize his new family and stepson over her and her brother. When they asked when he would visit, he would say he was busy. Torya then suggests limiting her interruptions to three total, which Mike agrees to. They then discuss the fact that the writer of the Reddit post writes like a deranged eight-year-old, and Torya will try to correct her writing as she reads it. The conversation was about a woman who her father had abandoned at the age of 11, and 18 years later had been contacted by her father's stepson asking her to help pay his medical bills. The woman was angry at her father for abandoning her and her brother, not paying child support, and refusing to pay his medical bills. She also told the stepson that he should be using the unpaid child support to cover his father's bills and that his father had lost the right to be her father when he dropped them. Her mother suggested that she could help her father, but the woman refused and told her mother that the father had put out nothing and would return nothing. Ultimately, Torya concluded that the father and the stepson were assholes.
