Learn more about NetSuite's Professional Services Automation Solution (PSA) SuiteProjects: https://bit.ly/3tmLgjH Back again…Guest host and NetSuite content marketing manager, Ian McCue, is chatting with Lee Buescher, founder of Architectural Overflow, a commercial and residential architectural services company (2:14). After diving into his background and why he started the business (6:39), Lee notes the start of the company's partnership with Southern Living in 2010 as a pivotal moment of growth (9:50). At the time, the business was running on QuickBooks, and Lee took a blind risk, knowing it couldn't properly manage the partnership, which included ecommerce, customer service, fulfillment and more. And that's when he decided to implement NetSuite (13:09). Lee says he knew he wanted a cloud-based system (16:06), and the fact that NetSuite could handle all aspects of the business in one place sealed the deal (20:10). Since implementation, Architectural Overflow has evolved to run most of its operations on NetSuite, from order management to customer service, financials to marketing, analytics, fulfillment and beyond (22:02). Today, the business is also in the process of implementing SuiteProjects to handle the complexities of project management and provide clients with increased visibility into project progress, including project profitability (23:48). Bola discusses the challenges and lessons learned as a young accountant during the 2008 recession, all of which helped her take on her next role as senior project accountant for Skidmore Owings & Merrill (13:25). In this role, she learned how a cohesive team drives success and efficiency for services-based businesses, focusing on seamless communication with the project team and client (17:30). All of that made her transition to CFO in 2018 fairly seamless (42:21), although she notes becoming far more focused on long-term planning (44:11). Bola also explains how her priorities changed due to the pandemic, from working with various suppliers to hold on payments, to finding resources needed to finish jobs amid "The Great Recession" (48:01). Ep 84Everything to Know About the NetSuite Accelerator
Learn more about the NetSuite Business Accelerator here: NetSuite.com/Accelerator On this episode, host Kendall Fisher joins Director of the NetSuite Business Accelerator, George Ploss. NetSuite was founded with a mission to help entrepreneurs unlock business growth, and more than two decades and 28,000 customers later, we've never wavered from that mission. Ploss discusses how the Business Accelerator expands on that, helping entrepreneurs and leaders from diverse communities build successful businesses with unified information they need to achieve their vision. We kick things off with an introduction to George and his career journey, which began with nine years in the Marine Corps (2:49). After spending a few years as a solutions engineer with Oracle, he led Oracle's Veterans Program (5:36) and then the Solutions Consultant Academy here at NetSuite (10:32) with diversity and inclusion always at the forefront of his mind (13:41). All of that eventually unfolded in an idea to create the NetSuite Accelerator program (18:00). More Black businesses have been founded in the past two years than in the past quarter century, and Ploss says that's why this is an optimal time to help them build for sustainable growth (21:40). But the program will expand beyond Black businesses. Ploss explains the Business Accelerator will eventually include other diverse communities, too (23:37). He explains that the program will offer processes, best practices, guidance and technology required for sustainable growth (26:04). Ploss discusses what success means to the program, and as he looks out five to ten years, what success really means to him (28:38). Tune in to find out! Like what you learned? Subscribe Now! Ep 83March of Dimes Focusing Less on Manual Tasks, More on Analytics & Value-Added Work
Learn more about how NetSuite works with nonprofits here: https://bit.ly/35OC6TO Guest host and NetSuite content marketing manager, Ian McCue is back! He chats with Dave Damond, the CFO of March of Dimes, a nonprofit organization focused on the health of moms and babies facing preterm birth (2:27). After diving into how March of Dimes educates and advocates for its mission (4:50), Damond talks about his personal career history and why he ditched a big four accounting firm for the nonprofit sector (6:06). He discusses the major differences between nonprofit organizations and for profit businesses (8:04) as well as the top challenges nonprofits face, especially around fundraising and forecasting (10:09). Damond then recalls his start at March of Dimes in 2018, during which he was hyper-focused on just one thing: Replacing the organization's 30-year-old system and implementing NetSuite in order to operate more efficiently and close the books faster (12:33). He says there were over 40 people reconciling bank accounts and acting as "local controllers," and the finance team was inundated by manual processes, like reporting and closing the books (14:19). Damond's goal was to make the finance team more analytical, reducing manual tasks and increasing value-added work (17:47). Since implementation, March of Dimes has gained valuable insights into vendors and been able to make more informed decisions around its events, all of which has saved the organization money (22:35) and helped it fulfill its mission. Damond says NetSuite also helped the finance team pull daily reports amid the pandemic, ensuring the organization really understood its cash flow (27:04). Finally, Damond hits on his biggest achievement as March of Dimes' CFO (30:21), his top advice for future finance leaders (33:36) and where he sees the role of the CFO evolving in the future (35:33). After explaining his unconventional path to becoming a CFO (5:19) and how it encouraged him to write a book (8:10), Hopper discusses his current role at Sandline (11:39) and describes a typical day in his shoes (14:23). He's currently implementing NetSuite and sees his role–as well as the role of all CFOs–evolving to include capabilities for that of a Chief Data Scientist with advanced technology like ERP (17:50). In fact, Hopper says the "new-age CFO" needs to be a strategic partner to the rest of the C-suite with a finance team that can use data analytics skills to apply across the business (21:59). However, not all companies are data savvy; many struggle to make sense of their data, a problem Hopper says technology is critical to overcoming (33:28), especially before the business hits a high-growth stage (39:12). He then defines "digital transformation" in his own words (46:20), before explaining how to get cross-organizational buy-in to make it happen (49:20). Ep 80How Brite's Growth Journey is Fueled by Financial and HR Process Automation
More on Brite's growth journey with NetSuite here: https://bit.ly/32jvnzC Ian McCue, guest host and NetSuite content marketing manager chats with Carrie Vahue, the HR Director and Controller for Brite–an IT services company focused on public safety, enterprise and managed services. Vahue begins by explaining how Brite has grown and transformed over the years (2:17) before explaining how she got started with the company (6:09) and the advantages of both HR and finance teams rolling up into one person (7:59). She then recalls some of the major financial challenges the business faced running on spreadsheets and four different systems, like reporting due to a lack of visibility and access to real-time data (9:26). Brite decided to implement NetSuite in 2015 because they wanted a true cloud system that could integrate with other applications they needed to run the business (11:50). Vahue says the company immediately saw benefits across reporting, revenue recognition and compliance (14:18). She then dives into the HR side of her role, noting her No.1 priority was giving power back to employees to take responsibility for their roles, careers and future at the company (18:27). However, it was difficult to meet that goal while running HR processes–like performance reviews and time off–in word docs and spreadsheets (21:52). Thus, Brite implemented SuitePeople, NetSuite's HRMS offering, to put the power back in employees' and managers' hands (22:26). Vahue says SuitePeople has helped Brite automate and improve time off and expense processes as well as goal and performance management (23:38). Brite even customized SuitePeople to track metrics that are specific to the business and its sales team (24:35). Finally, Vahue says Brite is growing quickly and looks forward to automating more processes within NetSuite, like payroll and project management (28:04). She concludes by noting, "The greatest part about NetSuite is that we make it our own." Like what you learned about Brite and NetSuite? Subscribe Now! Ep 79How NetSuite Supports Corkcicle as a True Omnichannel Business
Learn more about Corkcicle's growth journey with NetSuite here: https://bit.ly/3xP57Zv You've probably heard about the super cool (pun intended) brand Corkcicle, the company that created the first-ever in-bottle wine chiller and evolved into insulated tumblers, coffee mugs, coolers, canteens, barware and more. On this episode, guest host and NetSuite content marketing manager, Ian McCue, chats with Corkcicle's chief operating officer, Blake Thomas, about the company's growth journey over the past decade. Thomas takes us back to the start of the company in 2010 (2:00), and how it scaled from selling solely to independent retailers to becoming a truly omnichannel business across D2C and big box retailers (6:47). He then explains how the pandemic caused a shift in demand from retailers to D2C (9:59), the challenges around a huge ecommerce boom like that, and how the company handled it (13:15). Speaking of challenges, Thomas takes us back to some of the fundamental challenges the business faced as it continued to grow, add more SKUs and sell across more channels (19:07). He explains that the business was operating on multiple systems with very little insight into actual performance (24:01). Corkcicle decided to implement NetSuite for greater visibility and control over inventory management and demand planning as well as the ability to work from anywhere (25:54). Thomas says "NetSuite was the human brain" of Corkcicle, driving the bottom line margin (27:55). Most recently, Corkcicle implemented SuiteCommerce as its ecommerce solution (32:39), which not only allows their wholesale customers to make orders from anywhere and at any time (34:17), but also acts as a sales enablement tool (35:30). "Our entire ecosystem runs on NetSuite," he notes. "It's our spine." Thomas concludes by revealing that Corkcicle is making long-term strategic plans and feels confident in partnering with NetSuite to make them happen (37:34). On this episode, guest host and NetSuite content marketing manager, Ian McCue, chats with the company's COO, Ankur Sanghi, to hear how NetSuite has helped the business grow from 30 employees to over 750 in just a few years. Sanghi starts by describing Zonkd (1:44) and how it's evolved since its founding in 2009 (3:48). He explains how the international business struggled with communication across the organization (11:40), and how running QuickBooks prevented a lack of real-time visibility into data (15:29). The company decided to implement NetSuite to address those obstacles, starting with order-to-cash functionality and then adding NetSuite WMS, manufacturing, MRP, SuiteAnalytics and other functionality over time (18:16). Sanghi says Zonkd has seen major improvements running on NetSuite, most notably giving the company a holistic, end-to-end view of every order as well as improved workflows (22:18). NetSuite OneWorld allows the company to operate subsidiaries in multiple countries seamlessly (26:46) and more easily manage supply chain disruptions (30:17). Zonkd, like many businesses, has become extremely data-driven over the past year and a half, and SuiteAnalytics allows the organization to define and monitor success criteria by key performance indicators (32:18). Finally, as Zonkd heads toward a future that's focused on verticalization, shortening its supply chain and growing its ecosystem of vendors, Sanghi says NetSuite offers the insight, data and flexibility to get there (37:00). Ep 67How Advanced Data Analytics Helps ProPoint Make More Impactful Business Decisions
Research suggests the No.1 top priority for finance leaders right now is advanced data analytics. But what does that really mean, and how can businesses leverage that to move the needle? On this episode we're chatting with someone who's done it: self-proclaimed "data geek" Cheryl Aarsvold, the VP of Finance for ProProint, a salon management software company. After providing some background on the company (1:47), she explains how the pace of change (especially over the past year) has made data analytics so crucial in faster, more impactful decision-making (3:44). And yet, many businesses struggle to extract the right information and then actually use it to their benefit (5:26). Aarsvold says, for ProPoint, implementing NetSuite and working with SuiteAnalytics workbooks helped the company overcome challenges around disparate systems and lack of visibility into critical parts of the business (9:01), enabling her to pull timely information to support big business decisions and drive growth (15:12). Furthermore, Aarsvold is able to customize that information in ways that are unique to the salon management industry with the click of a button, which she calls "magic" (18:12). Of course, being in salon management presented another unique set of challenges amid closures in 2020. Aarsvold explains how she used SuiteAnalytics to extend ProProint's cash flow runway, targeting data by state to keep up with changing regulations (23:29). Aarsvold concludes with words for finance leaders everywhere, promising that SuiteAnalytics is "everything you've wished you had all these years" (27:57). At this point, he says businesses need to consider replacing their current system for a more unified solution like NetSuite (17:26).
