InnerSpace came out last week and we got a chance to play and share our impressions. InnerSpace is a new exploratory adventure game from PolyKnight Games. Think of it as a mix between Journey and Abzu with a touch of progression. Austin jumps back into Divinity: Original Sin 2 after our awesome interview from PAX South with the team at Larian Studios. In the news this week, Nintendo announces their new "toy-con" kits called Nintendo Labo. These are cardboard cutouts that allow you to make your Switch into a bunch of interactive toys such as a fishing rod, piano, RC car and even a robot! Fortnite is seeing huge success after the release of their Battle Royale mode, Overwatch League's Dallas team runs into some trouble with a player and Dr. Disrespect is back after a 2 week hiatus? Finally, our discussion this week is over cooperative games of 2018. This year we're seeing a big shift in developers diversifying the co-op experience and we explore how they're doing that. We had quite a weekend at PAX South 2018 and in this podcast we share all the great moments of this awesome event in San Antonio. We're back! The Inner Gamer crew returns in 2018 with a brand new episode full of all the 2018 goodness. We’re nearing the end of the year and no major game releases left but we still have a bunch to talk about from the storm that has been 2017 for Episode 150! This week we follow up on Star Wars Battlefront 2 with our thoughts on the full campaign and all the multiplayer. Devan jumps into Overwatch again to talk about all the awesome new updates they’ve brought out this year such as the character Moira and the new map Junkertown. Brett finishes the campaign for Call of Duty WWII and shares his thoughts on this campaign and how it fits into all the great games of the year. Finally, we delve into some more PUBG as our console friends get closer to having it on the Xbox! In our news segment, there is a lot more on Electronic Arts mess ups, microtransactions and more. Bungie also screwed up and had a rigged system in Destiny 2 which made for some unhappy fans on Reddit. South Park Phone Destroyer has arrived on phones everywhere! Is this just another mobile game or is it what South Park does best? We also have Luis back on the cast to talk about his crazy gaming escapades with Civilization VI, completing Cuphead and going old school with Turok. In the news, EA acquires Respawn Entertainment, creators of Titanfall. Telltale Games lays off a quarter of its staff as it begins to focus tighter on future games. Niantic also reveals their new Harry Potter AR game as a follow up to last year's Pokemon GO. Our discussion this week is all about video game sequels. Many franchises didn't take off until after the first game. Call of Duty returns to its roots with World War 2. Does it truly deliver the boots on the ground experience they promised? Austin and Brett give their impressions on every aspect of the game from the single player campaign to zombies. Each game is completely unique and it's probably the first time in history we've had this level of quality out in one day (not to mention Stranger Things Season 2.) In our news, we talk about the death of the Kinect, support for Gamecube controllers on the Switch, Animal Crossing for mobile and the remastering of L.A. Noire. In this episode, Charlie returns to share his impressions on the very unique and stylized game Cuphead. It looks like a 1930's cartoon, plays like Metal Slug and is incredibly hard to play. We also get our hands on South Park: The Fractured but Whole. This is the next game from the minds of Trey Parker and Matt Stone and it's 20+ hours of insanity with a heck of a lot of fart jokes. Find out why this is one you don't want to miss. During the news, we talk about Activision's patent on hidden microtransaction "sells" during matchmaking. They basically want to pair you up with players that have goodies you would be enticed to buy. We also talk about how much money Gabe Newell made last year, the Switch update and Vermintide 2 not selling loot boxes. Finally, our discussion this week is on the changing state of single player experiences. With the closing of Visceral at Electronic Arts, we wonder what triple A companies are doing with their single player games. Visceral was making an action adventure, linear story campaign in the Star Wars universe and it's getting a "pivot." That also means we won't see it until at least 2020. We review the highly anticipated sequel to Shadow of Mordor, Middle Earth Shadow of War. We have a lot of new games to cover this week, a few older ones and some fresh ones that we still can't stop talking about. Everybody's Golf came out a few weeks ago and we've finally gotten our hands on that. It's Hot Shots Golf but better and with friends it's amazing. We also test out Divinity Original Sin 2 and share our initial impressions on how much it's like Dungeons and Dragons for video games. Rayman Legends also dropped on the Switch and we decide to visit that game and what it's like playing it on the portable Nintendo console. In our news segment, we dive into Fortnite's announcement of their Battle Royale mode and PUBG's response to it. We also talk on the Tokyo Game Show which had a good amount of release dates revealed for Sony included a January release for Monster Hunter Worlds. Our discussion topic this week is over Destiny 2. Now that we've had a few weeks with the game we wanted to talk about the changes we've seen between D1 and D2. We cover differences in story, the world, progression and the ever popular raids. What do an old school platformer, Devil May Cry and Chloe Fraser have in common? Nothing really other than they're all parts of this week's games! We review Sonic Mania on the Nintendo Switch, the latest Sonic game which melds the best of the best together into one neat little package. We also review Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. This game is from the creators of Devil May Cry and is considered a AAA indie game. It's 1 part walking simulator, 1 part fighting game and 1 part awesome. Then we have the game we've all been looking forward to...Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. In this game, we play as Chloe Fraser with our sidekick Nadine from Uncharted 4. It's still a blast of a game and we share our insight. This week we escape prison and play tug of war! We share our impressions on The Escapists 2, the prison break 8-bit game that releases today. The Escapists 2 introduces multiplayer where you and your friends work together to escape from a variety of prison scenarios by crafting, stealing, brawling and ultimately escaping. We also review Nidhogg 2 where you and another play also brawl in a tug of war style of game. It's incredibly brutal and bloody and awesome. We also play Oceanhorn which is out now on the Nintendo Switch. It turns out its a bit of a Zelda-Lite kind of game ported from the mobile market. In our news segment, we talk about No Man's Sky actually reaching it's potential it sought after. Star Wars Battlefront 2 may also be reaching that same potential with some epic space battles. Finally, we talk a lot about what to expect from Gamescom including news from Blizzard, Sea of Thieves and Destiny. Finally, our discussion this week centers around the Xbox One X. The highly anticipated title from Epic Games has finally arrived. Fortnite is a "co-op sandbox survival game" where you build bases, fight off zombies and work together to collect massive amounts of loot. It was one of the first games announced for Unreal Engine 4 and is finally here. We break down the good and the bad. We also played through Tacoma and share our thoughts on that highly anticipated follow up to 2013's smash hit Gone Home, what many call the first "walking simulator." It's a sci-fi walking simulator where you land on a space station to discover what happened on the months leading up to today. In our news segment, we talk about a lot of new card games ironically such as one in the works from Gearbox and Valve's first game in years called Artifact. Undertale is a very special RPG game that came out on PC last year. It's coming out on Playstation 4 August 15th and we reviewed in in preparation for that. The characters are great, the gameplay is simple and the love is in the air. This week we play the highly anticipated game Pyre from Supergiant Games. Pyre is from the creators of Bastion and Transistor. In Pyre, you play through an original story in which the choices you make impact the direction and can actually take the story it totally different directions. They also created their own sport in this game...seriously. Aegis Defenders is an upcoming 2d metroidvania-style platformer where you take the role of two characters: a granddaughter and a grandfather. We got our hands on Mass Effect Andromeda and have mixed feelings. It's an expansive world that needs some finessing but we're still glad to see Mass Effect return. We're back from SXSW Gaming Expo down in Austin and we have a lot to share! We played a ton of games, got some awesome interviews and will tell you all about what went down. We get our hands on the latest indie title that will surely surprise you: Night in the Woods. It's a cleverly designed and beautifully illustrated game about a cat named Mae who returns to her home Possum Springs and finds things are like she left them. We also play For Honor's single player and give our impressions, talk some more Nioh and play the Ghost Recon Wildlands beta. The Nintendo Switch is coming out next week and as such we have all the launch titles for that. The Joy-Con controllers are having some issues with pre-release hardware, Ken Levine has a new studio and AMD has a new series of processors that are quite good.
