Today I am giving the final recap message regarding the 2020 Vision of our church. For 15 years this vision has given direction to our mission to make and grow followers of Jesus. Taking a moment to look back is going to fill us with great anticipation as we look ahead.

Giving generously is a necessary step of discipleship. We should talk about it and live it.

Generosity is genius because Jesus said it is the path to blessing. Through it we bless others.

The new year is another opportunity to dream about our future, but we may discover that God has dreams for us - just like a farmer named Elisha.

Jesus will be with you in form of the Holy Spirit until he returns to take you home with Him to the Heavenly Father.

We all love to add some extra decorations at the Christmas season. This series wants to add some extra characters to the Christmas story who can add some needed “extras” to our own faith journey.

Jesus promises us another Advocate. The Holy Spirit will reside in us forever. He will never leave. So how do we help cultivate that relationship to bring us the most comfort, encouragement and strength.

There is no Kingdom Come unless the King comes back. Because of this, Christians remind one another of a shared eternal hope. Why is Jesus coming Back?

In Jesus' last conversation with his disciples he mentioned leaving ten times. None of the disciples wanted Jesus to leave, and not one single moment did Jesus think about staying. Somehow his leaving was connected to more of the Kingdom coming.

The hope of the world is a church in mission with God.

Jesus didn't come because he had nothing better to do, but because there was nothing better he could do. He came to seek and to save...those are his words.

Many people struggle with the tipic of judgment. "Judgmental" represents the worst attitudes in Christianity. So what do we need to know Jesus says judgment?

Jesus never wondered why he came. His life started on mission, stayed on mission and ended on mission. He never wondered what he was doing there.

Some issues have a greater capacity to divide families more than others, such as politics, sports loyalties, money isses. Jesus can be included in this category.

There is a theological basis for us to have an aversion to snakes. Revelation 12:9

In Mark we read about the disciples arguing about who would be first in God's Kingdom.

What happens when the Kingdom comes in ways that make us wonder if it's really the Kingdom at all? John prophesied that God's Messiah, His chosen One, was coming to establish his kingdom. He can help answer that question.

When Jesus came the first time he healed the sick, cast out demons, and even raised the dead. Even so, some doubted he was the King of Kings. When he comes back the second time there will be no doubt that he is THE KING!

Justice. Mercy. Humility. Repeat! What God wants is not complicated, but it is not easy either. That's because we do not live in a world that focuses first on others.

It is easy to drift towards blurred vision, including in the arena of faith. The pursuit of clarity must be intentional to keep focusing on the values God has said we should focus on.

"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8. Focusing on justice is what God does every day.

Clarity and alignment are absolutely critical for any church. No amount of effort can overcome a lack of clarity.

In the beginning, God was personally present with the people He created. The rest of the story of God and His people carries the theme of presence, from the tabernacle to the temple to Jesus and now to the church. The question is, where is God personally present now?

Fire is a consistent sign of God's presence in the Old Testament. The burning bush. The fire on Mt. Sinai. The fire of the Lord on Mt. Carmel. And then on the day of Pentecost, tongues of fire symbolizing the presence of God's Spirit.

At the Feast of Tabernacles, water was ceremonially poured out in remembrance of God's faithfulness and in expectation of His Spirit bringing renewal to Israel. That is the very moment Jesus chooses to make an open invitation and a bold claim.

The Hebrew word ruach can be translated "spirit, breath or wind". And throughout the Old Testament ruach is used for all three. God's Spirit inspired (which, by the way, means breathed life into) the Scriptures to make a connection between the Spirit of God and the very breath we need to live.

The Holy Spirit can be hard to understand. So when the Spirit inspired the writers of the Bible, He included self-portraits - visual portrayals of the invisible Spirit of God. Understanding these visuals - a dove, water, fire and others -can provide insight into how God's Spirits works in and transforms Christians today.

The Old Testament tells more stories on David than any other character, and it doesn't skip any pages. His wins and his losses are all recorded, which must have created a stimulation debate when he was eligible for the faith hall of fame.

SAMSON AND GRACE

How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and all the prophets!

History has a way of repeating itself. God knows this, so in His Word we can find repeated failures right alongside his repeated faithfulness. Numbers chapter 20 includes a prime example.

From the very beginning the Bible establishes the need for epic grace. And that is especially clear in the account of Judah's failure resume.
