SECURE Act

The SECURE Act went into effect January 1, 2020, Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement. But does it really? The GenWealth Team takes a look at the new legislation and what it can mean for your financial future. Originally aired 1/4/2020 Let's secure some disclosures, shall we? Economic forecasts set forth may not develop as predicted and there can be no guarantee that strategies promoted will be successful. “Stretch IRA” is a marketing term implying the ability of a beneficiary of a Decedent’s IRA to withdraw the least amount of money at the latest allowable time in order to maintain the inherited IRA assets for the longest time period possible. Beneficiary distribution options depend on a number of factors such as the type and age of the beneficiary, the relationship of the beneficiary to the decedent and the age of the decedent at death and may result in the inability to “stretch” a decedent’s IRA. Illustration values will greatly depend on the assumptions used which may not be predictable such as future tax laws, IRS rules, inflation and constant rates of return. Costs including custodial fees may be incurred on a specified frequency while the account remains open. The Roth IRA offers tax deferral on any earnings in the account. Withdrawals from the account may be tax free, as long as they are considered qualified. Limitations and restrictions may apply. Withdrawals prior to age 59 ½ or prior to the account being opened for 5 years, whichever is later, may result in a 10% IRS penalty tax. Future tax laws can change at any time and may impact the benefits of Roth IRAs. Their tax treatment may change.  This is a hypothetical example and is not representative of any specific situation. Your results will vary. The hypothetical rates of return used do not reflect the deduction of fees and charges inherent to investing.

Originally aired 12/21/2019 Check these disclosures so we don't end up on the naughty list: Bonds are subject to market and interest rate risk if sold prior to maturity. Bond values will decline as interest rates rise and bonds are subject to availability and change in price. Economic forecasts set forth may not develop as predicted and there can be no guarantee that strategies promoted will be successful. Mortgage backed securities are subject to credit, default, prepayment, extension, market and interest rate risk.  Traditional IRA account owners should consider the tax ramifications, age and income restrictions in regards to executing a conversion from a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA. The converted amount is generally subject to income taxation.  Fixed and Variable annuities are suitable for long-term investing, such as retirement investing.  Gains from tax-deferred investments are taxable as ordinary income upon withdrawal. Guarantees are based on the claims paying ability of the issuing company. Withdrawals made prior to age 59 ½ are subject to a 10% IRS penalty tax and surrender charges may apply.  Variable annuities are subject to market risk and may lose value.

Originally aired 11/9/2019 Some Clear Disclosures: Fixed and Variable annuities are suitable for long-term investing, such as retirement investing. Riders are additional guarantee options that are available to an annuity or life insurance contract holder.  While some riders are part of an existing contract, many others may carry additional fees, charges and restrictions, and the policy holder should review their contract carefully before purchasing.   Equity Indexed Annuities (EIAs) are not suitable for all investors.  EIAs permit investors to participate in only a stated percentage of an increase in an index (participation rate) and may impose a maximum annual account value percentage increase.  EIAs typically do not allow for participation in dividends accumulated on the securities represented by the index.  Annuities are long-term, tax-deferred investment vehicles designed for retirement purposes.  Withdrawals prior to 59 ½ may result in an IRS penalty, and surrender charges may apply.
