Create a quality product and the market will accept it.As 5.11 Tactical celebrates its 20th anniversary, Francisco shares how they constantly spearhead innovation, from securing patents to diversifying their product line to cater to regular consumers. But behind their success, Francisco shares how he feared for the business since the market was racing to the price floor.Add to that the explosion in costs and the business looked like it wouldn't survive. Today, 5.11 is a household name in the military, law enforcement, EP, and many other industries. Tune in to hear Francisco's amazing story of growing the company and his commitment to putting out products that people actually want to wear in this episode of The Fearless Mindset Podcast.GOLDEN NUGGETSConstantly innovating tactical wear for all situations - Francisco: “We are obsessed with innovation, and we focus those innovations by looking at the problem sets that military, law enforcement, security, EMTs, and firefighters will present on the field. Normally these problem sets are either mission-specific or they happen to be having to carry certain equipment in a certain way."A commitment to new materials and methods for consumers - Francisco: "We're innovating, creating a lot of IP. That's why, as a company, we have a lot of patents. We have a lot of patents on raw materials, on construction, and a lot of our products receive patents because this is the first time somebody has figured out how to do a certain thing. Then we take those innovations and sometimes the same exact product translates completely into everyday products."Get to know more about Francisco:LinkedIn | 5.11 Tactical | 511tactical.comTo hear more episodes of The Fearless Mindset podcast, you can go to https://the-fearless-mindset.simplecast.com/ or listen to major podcasting platforms such as Apple, Google Podcasts, Spotify, etc. You can also subscribe to the Fearless Mindset YouTube Channel to watch episodes on video. Ep 145Episode 145 - HUMAN CONNECTION: Communicate Authentically in the Digital Age with Gina London (Part 2)

This episode of the Fearless Mindset Podcast is the second part of our conversation with Gina London, the CEO of Language of Leadership and a sought-after author, columnist, and TEDx speaker. Today, Gina discusses why communication is the most important skill in the digital age.She also touches on the so-called work-life balance and how this is an illusion. Instead, Gina suggests movement to balance activity and a sedentary lifestyle to clear out the cobwebs of negativity in your brain.Gina also shares how command and control are the norms for leaders but that there is another side to leadership, a softer side, that bridges the divide through open communication and understanding. GOLDEN NUGGETSThere is no such thing as work-life balance - Gina: "We need to cultivate our style of being who we are and stop thinking, oh, well I'm just myself with my friends and I'm a different person when I'm in work. You are just a person. You're not a professional life and a personal life, you just have a life. So why not take more ownership of that in every facet? And that's, I think, going to help you have more control of the things you can control."Command and control is just one side to leadership - Gina: "I often work with the top-level execs who have gotten where they are probably from the command and control thing. And they also have a great set of skills. But what they haven't developed is that softer, more warm side of them."Communication is a three-legged stool - Gina: "The three ways that we reach the person right now, in any communication event, are the words that we choose, the voice that we deploy, and the body language that we signal most.” Get to know more about Gina:LinkedIn | WebsiteTo hear more episodes of The Fearless Mindset podcast, you can go to https://the-fearless-mindset.simplecast.com/ or listen to major podcasting platforms such as Apple, Google Podcasts, Spotify, etc. You can also subscribe to the Fearless Mindset YouTube Channel to watch episodes on video. And it's their own kid."Women in law enforcement should use their intuition - Heidi: "I think their communication and their ability to think on their feet as far as reading people and seeing what's about to happen, seeing through lies. I mean, women have that intuition, that mother's intuition or whatever you want to call it, so use it." He shares how he started The Great Conversation meeting with servant leaders and his mission to help others figure out their why.Mark and Ron discuss the current work environment, from the worrisome inflation we are experiencing to the apparent refusal of younger generations to work. Tune in as Ron talks about finding one’s core values and how ideas matter here on The Fearless Mindset Podcast.GOLDEN NUGGETSBringing people together for The Great Conversation - Ron: "The great conversation became, how can I bring the whole industry together? Whether you are a consultant, an integrator, a manufacturer, CSO, and their team, how can I bring the whole industry together to really say, how do we raise our game so that this industry becomes incredibly valuable to its customers, which is the CEO and their team to its customers, no matter who you were in that industry."A seat at the table is an opportunity to share ideas that matter - Ron: "It's nice to get a title. It's nice to get a seat at the table, but it still doesn't mean your ideas matter unless you choose to integrate them into the others around you who are trying to sort through the same dilemma as you, and that is how to build a powerful company, a valuable company. And so, stop trying to get a seat at the table and try to get your ideas accepted before, and then it's a fait accompli because if your ideas are accepted, sooner or later you'll be more recognized."Get to know more about Ron:LinkedIn | The Great ConversationTo hear more episodes of The Fearless Mindset podcast, you can go to https://the-fearless-mindset.simplecast.com/ or listen to major podcasting platforms such as Apple, Google Podcasts, Spotify, etc. You can also subscribe to the Fearless Mindset YouTube Channel to watch episodes on video. So you know, if I use my running experience, it will be like running a team race, and the clock doesn't start, doesn't stop ticking until the last person crosses the finish line. So you start thinking like, it doesn't do you any good to say, “hey, my finance person is the number one in the world, but my product person is number four, well, then you're number four.”The people you should surround yourself with - Francisco: “You need to have people that are proactive, that are self-starters if they are not the type of people that you have to be micromanaging, and they're intellectually curious, so they want to know how this might work, interact with the work downstream and upstream. They're good social creatures, so they're connecting within the company.” Get to know more about Francisco:LinkedIn | 5.11 Tactical | 511tactical.comTo hear more episodes of The Fearless Mindset podcast, you can go to https://the-fearless-mindset.simplecast.com/ or listen to major podcasting platforms such as Apple, Google Podcasts, Spotify, etc. You can also subscribe to the Fearless Mindset YouTube Channel to watch episodes on video. Ep 140Episode 140 - COMMUNICATION BASICS: Be Intentional About Building Trust with Gina London (Part 1)

This episode of the Fearless Mindset Podcast is the first part of our conversation with Gina London, the CEO of Language of Leadership and a sought-after author, columnist, and TEDx speaker. Communication is both an art and a skill that is applicable in every single industry out there. With the pandemic, a culture of the transaction started to permeate our relationships. Gina observes that what we need to do is be intentional about making a real effort to connect again. She talks about LinkedIn and the unprecedented access it gives you to people you would otherwise never meet.Gina provides quick and actionable tips to improve the way you communicate, as well as reminds us that the core of relationships remains the same regardless of medium: trust, consistency, and the duration of your relationship.GOLDEN NUGGETSRemember the basics of communication are rooted in trust - Gina: "I think that there can be a tendency for sometimes people to jump too quickly in their relationships and to think too much in a business relationship here. And you know, you really need to go back to basics and think about the level of trust and consistency and the duration of your relationships that you're able to really have some roots and not try to grow too quickly."Care and compassion are people’s real strengths - Gina: "I think leaning into vulnerability is a real strength and I find that some of the most powerful generals that I've interviewed, or really seemingly strong physical types, like a head coach of Irish rugby for example, they're strong because they're actually quite aware of how kind they can be and how thoughtful they can be and how compassionate they can be. And that actually to me is probably one of the biggest strengths a person can have." Ep 138Episode 138 - STRANGER DANGER: Fighting Against Child Trafficking and Exploitation with Heidi Chance (Part 1)

This episode of the Fearless Mindset Podcast is the first part of our conversation with Heidi Chance, a retired Phoenix Police Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Detective and Presenter on child sex trafficking and exploitation at the National Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJTC). Today, she brings to light the realities of human trafficking, especially with the revelation that the Super Bowl is a top venue for trafficking. Heidi discusses the different ways sexploitation happens in today's age, which range from social media to games, and the central role of involved parents in protecting children from predators.GOLDEN NUGGETSAdapting law enforcement to deal with exploitation - Heidi: "We're asking the question we never asked before, which is, what can we do to help you get out of this situation? My agency had a victim advocate actually assigned to the unit, and that victim advocates would basically go out at two o'clock in the morning when we were out on a call and they would take the victim aside, and everything that they shared together was confidential and gave them an option to leave right then; resources, a bus ticket, hotel room, a shelter bed, all of those things right then."An involved community can defend against traffickers - Heidi: "It's really going to take the community knowing what the problem is, and then helping with the fight, reporting what they see, teaching their kids not to do certain things or talk to certain people, and actually be there in their kids' lives. That's the only way that we would eradicate this problem." Ric suggests diversity so you can bid for more roles and look at security from a wider point of view. Aside from the reactive skills, Ric challenges agents to know how to plan for security especially when firearms are not involved.GOLDEN NUGGETSTrain on preventive skills instead of just reactive skills - Ric: "You start learning the medical side, you've learned a good skill there, but if you look it another way, you've now trained yourself to look at how to prevent some things that may happen as well. So if you're only the hallway guy, the driver, and the shooter, if you will, the EMT-trained guy looks at things a little bit differently. He also looks at the same things you do, but he's adding a broad way to look at those. If you become a security risk assessor, same thing."Expand knowledge to become valuable to different security departments - Ric: "Executive protection really is only one skillset or one avenue of what the entire corporate security structure is. So, you mentioned as a former chief security officer, so our programs spanned a large number of jobs. We owned aviation companies, we owned maritime companies, logistical trucking companies, warehousing, and so that's corporate security. And executive protection was only a small part of that." If they have the money, they're starting to bring it in-house, I've noticed."Tips for service-oriented celebrity protection - Anton: "Just be of service. Don't be a taker, be a giver. How can I be of service? How can I protect you? How can I make you happy? When you're in the car with them speak, when they speak to you. There was a whole thing about being retired law enforcement that has so many benefits of transitioning into EP, but what they just gotta know is how do I f*cking function in a corporate environment? How do I adjust to that environment, and how do I know to lose the whole cop vibe, blend in, and just do my job? Like that's a big thing."The 2 components of active shooter response - Aaron: "There are people that will teach, there are two components to an active shooter, there's the educational standpoint of being the employee, and then for me with Katalyst, the two programs I'm developing which are structural clearing and active shooter response. Not the product of like, Hey, there's a gunman, he's doing damage. How do we come together? How do we get in, eliminate the threat, and properly be identified and not get shot by law enforcement?" I don't want young guys thinking that's what this is, because it's not."Work ethic is everything in EP - Anton: "You might have some executive that's not really a high C-suite level or maybe you've got a celebrity who's not really that well known, or maybe you got an athlete who doesn't really sell that many jerseys, doesn't matter." "Treat 'em like it's Michael Jackson, treat him like he's Bill Gates, because if you put that kind of work ethic into everything you do, now I'm not saying you do it once or twice people are gonna notice, but after doing it for many years, eventually the cream rises to the top. And I would say almost 100% of Guardian's business has been word of mouth." If there's no one behind the camera who reviews it and how? And also, how long is that data stored?"The opportunity in 2023 is in starting a guard force company - Aaron: "Guys are like, I wanna start an EP company. No, me, start a guard force company. Ep 128Episode 128 - Shadow Warrior: Covert Operations and Patriotism with Enrique "Ric" Prado (Part1)

STORIES OF A WAR HEROThis episode of the Fearless Mindset Podcast is the first part of our conversation with Enrique "Ric" Prado, Air Force paratrooper, CIA senior operations officer, and bestselling author of Black Ops. He shares war stories, from the behind-the-scenes work of the CIA to the patriotism of Blackwater in defending our allies. He talks about Black Ops as a challenge to how mainstream media portrays the agency and even says that the CIA had to review the book first before it got published. Enrique also shares anecdotes about Blackwater's Erik Prince which many may not know, such as the patriotism of the organization and his personal willingness to lead from the front. He also comments on the loyalty of the CIA to the people, as well as the dynamic of the agency with the president.GOLDEN NUGGETSDespite the bad press, Blackwater was patriotic - Enrique: "There's a lot of bad press out there on Erik Prince and I haven't talked to him in probably 10 years, or at least 6 or 8. But at the time that I knew him, the time that I was working with Blackwater, I was in awe of the patriotism that permeated every corner of that organization. And a lot of that had to do with Erik, you know, all the super duper programs that I was running, which were very successful with both the DoD and the agency, it was never a contractual thing for Erik."Blackwater's selflessness to protect allies - Enrique: "There was the Polish ambassador to Iraq. He was driving around with his PSD, not a Blackwater PSD, and they got hit and hit hard, taking an enormous amount of casualties. He himself was wounded or burnt or something like that. They hit their tracker and there was a Blackwater unit not too far from there. They responded. They took care of the bad guys and saved the ambassador and everybody else. And that was, again, that wasn't a contractual thing. They were taking a risk doing something that they would get no remuneration for." Ep 124Episode 124 - OPTIMIZE EP: The Right Training Equips Clients for Better Security with Aaron Mauldin (Part 1)

OLD-SCHOOL ASSESSMENT MEETS MODERN CHALLENGESThis episode of the Fearless Mindset Podcast is the first part of our conversation with Aaron Mauldin, Owner of Katalyst Training Group and KTG Consulting. Aaron dives into his expertise in training management and executive protection and how he assesses and optimizes his clients' protection programs. He also shares his real-world experiences on how he helped his clients improve their security, protected HVAs, and defined security policies and procedures so that organizations can be better equipped to handle the challenges of modern-day executive protection. GOLDEN NUGGETSSometimes, full-time employees are the cause of problems - Aaron: "What happens is it was management because they didn't understand what EP operations are, the logistics, the customer support, and how for a proper detail to actually do their job. They were controlling the vehicles or they're making 'em stay at other hotels and now they're Ubering back and forth instead of having the vehicles allocated to grab them an hour early. When I went in, the hardest thing was discussing with the individual that hired me, given an assessment, that they are the problem."Defining the difference between security policies and procedures - Aaron: "Risk assessment is the foundation, the base of every protection detail. So you can write the SOPs—and policies and procedures and SOPs are two different things. The policies and procedures, there's an education point too, are dictated by the corporation or the family office or the security company, meaning that Aaron, if you fly for over six hours, you can book first class or you have to allocate this way when you're doing receipts or yada yada yada, where SOPs are your actual operating procedures when protecting that client." That's the fastest way. Have you ever heard of somebody fake it 'til you make it? If I were to start uncontrollably laughing and because of your mirror neurons, you start uncontrollably laughing, if I have dark thoughts racing around in my head and I need to go outside to take a walk to clear my head, think about what we're doing. We are changing physiologically the state that our body is in by getting into movement."If you are in the RED and need to speak with someone, dial 988, 911, or call direct at 800-273-8255. Dean also gets vulnerable with his parachuting accident which ended his special forces days, as well as learning about the spectrum of services that executive protection can provide.GOLDEN NUGGETSA parachuting accident ends Dean's special forces career - Dean: "I got injured in the military. I'd never had any ambitions of leaving the special forces. I've had 16 years. I had a parachuting accident that tore all the ligaments in my knee, hamstring, my calf, and my quadriceps. And that's then how I found myself working in the security industry."The anticipation of a challenge is worse than your participation - Dean: "Anticipation is worse than participation. A lot of people will tell you why they can't do it or worry about why they can't do it. And actually, once they've done it and they look back, they're like, actually it wasn't that bad. So yeah, that's one thing I'd say for anyone who's looking to do it, set their own challenges."Get to know more about Dean:LinkedIn | WebsiteTo hear more episodes of The Fearless Mindset podcast, you can go to https://the-fearless-mindset.simplecast.com/ or listen to major podcasting platforms such as Apple, Google Podcasts, Spotify, etc. You can also subscribe to the Fearless Mindset YouTube Channel to watch episodes on video. He also explains how being a soldier is also not the same as being in executive protection and the need to be thorough when protecting clients.GOLDEN NUGGETSTo be Tier 1, you need to have brains as well as brawns - Dean: "Being the fittest isn't the best. The selection process dwindles out. Those that are fit, those that can also retain information, those that can work in teams, work on their own, and make decisive decisions under pressure."The special forces are not like what you see on TV - Dean: "Everyone has this perception of special forces of the bombs, the biceps, the bullets, and things like that, which makes good TV, but that's actually 25% of what we do, and that's your final plan. When I'm talking about your primary, secondary, tertiary, and then you get your firearm, that's that 25%. 50% of what we do is support and influence. It's hearts and minds, being embedded with the locals, understanding the demographics, the politics, the tribal influences, and just flying under the radar." He also talks about his genuine friendship with Prince Harry and how he was witness to his authentic desire to serve and his time as an Apache pilot in Afghanistan.GOLDEN NUGGETSIntelligence-led security does not rely on concealed-carry weapons - Dean: "When you start entering the world of security or you're doing a project or plan, you need to have a plan, like a primary plan. a secondary plan, and a tertiary plan. But having weapons shouldn't be in that plan at all." Meeting Harry as a soldier and not as a prince - Dean: "I always look back to our time in the military and that was probably where [Prince Harry] was at his happiest and the fact that he was away from the media. He could be Second Lieutenant Wales... and if he made a mistake in the military, as everyone makes in the military, it wasn't all over the world's press." Because although it's women and protection, and it really does, we do talk a lot about things in general that affect everybody. It's just women have a different approach?”Monica: “What I want to do with women and protection is to help others kind of get to that point where they identify where they want to go, how they want to do it, and then they just go get it.”Monica: “Where I am, things are picking up. My counterparts at other companies are doing the same thing. They're traveling more, there are more in-person events, and there's more need for executive protection.”Monica: “In corporate, we're looking more at cybersecurity issues.
