Monday 9/24 - Colts Training Camp Ramps Up Soon, Pacers Special Announcement for the 2024 All-Star Game, and Joel Erickson Joins the Show!
(00:00 - 27:41) - Kevin is back after a week off on this Monday Morning Kevin & Query. Jake on the other hand is still traveling back from Iowa, so Kevin and Marc get the show started by previewing Colts training camp which they will be live from on Tuesday. The Cincinnati Reds are back to their winning ways, taking 5 straight recently. Danny Lopez is going to be on the show later with an announcement about All-Star weekend for the NBA in Indianapolis for 2024. The Colts had some interesting choices for marketing their new jerseys. Several of the Colts rookie draft picks have still yet to sign with the team. (27:42 - 34:42) - Morning Checkdown (34:43 - 44:26) - Kevin recently wrote an article of 53 questions heading into Colts training camp. Marc asks some of those questions back to Kevin. Including, will Jonathan Taylor receive a contract extension and is Mo Alie-Cox capable of giving the team more? (44:27 - 1:08:21) - More anticipation for Colts training camp coming up. Several days have sold out already. Pacers Head-Coach had a great comparison between the Pacers transformation over the past two years and the Colts transformation this offseason. Returning to Kevin's list of 53 questions. How will quarterback reps be divided up? How high is the urgency for the team to sign a veteran cornerback? (1:08:22 - 1:20:20) - Danny Lopez Vice President of External Affairs for the Indiana Pacers joins the show to give all the details surrounding the 2024 NBA All-Star Game. His exclusive announcement is that tickets that are reserved exclusively for Hoosiers will go on sale at 2:00 p.m. today. He also says that the team is setting up a full weekend of events outside of just the All-Star schedule. The team is really hoping to transform the downtown area to almost compare to an NFL Super Bowl Village. Gainbridge Fieldhouse's inside renovations are done, the outside plaza is the last piece of the puzzle which Lopez says is aiming for an August open. (1:20:21 - 1:30:02) - It was announced that former Colts running back Nyheim Hines suffered a non-football related injury to his knee while the show was on air. Hines most notable moment with the Buffalo Bills last year was returning an opening kick for a touchdown the game after Damar Hamlin's injury. Marc and Kevin draw comparisons to the timing of Hines's injury and Colts injuries prior to the season beginning. (1:30:03 - 2:01:00) - Joel Erickson of the IndyStar calls into the program to talk Colts training camp. Kevin and Joel tease each other quickly as the Cincinnati Reds (Kevin's team) and the Milwaukee Brewers (Joel's Team) will be facing each other soon. Erickson gives his top 3 questions for GM Chris Ballard, who will be a guest on the program tomorrow. All three are similar to ones that were discussed earlier in the show. Colts haven't made many if any changes to their offensive line and Erickson is wondering if the team might be signing up their quarterbacks for failure yet again if the line doesn't improve. Does Erickson have any information on the Jonathan Taylor contract talks? Would Taylor risk sitting out the last year of his contract? Erickson believes that Richardson just has to match the potential effectiveness of Gardner Minshew to earn the Week 1 start. Kevin and Joel make a bet on the Reds/Brewers series. (2:01:01 - 2:08:39) - Pop Quiz (2:08:40 - 2:17:36) - The show closes out with a rundown of the upcoming week. Big guests on the docket for tomorrow and live appearances from Colts Training Camp and the Indiana State Fair. Friday 7/21 - Colts Unveil Alternate Jerseys, Women's World Cup is Underway, Greg Rakestraw and George Bremer Join!
(00:00 - 24:36) - The Friday Edition of Kevin & Query begins with the news of the Colts new alternate jerseys and the Washington Commanders being sold. What team, other than the Colts, has a logo that changes color when sold at retail compared to the players uniforms. The Colts news jerseys aren't that special, they are cool, but Jake and Marc don't think it will really move the needle in terms of appeal. (24:37 - 26:56) - Morning Checkdown (26:57 - 45:08) - Greg Rakestraw of the ISC Network and Soccer Saturday stops by the show for a quick spot discussing women's soccer both internationally and in Indianapolis. Rakestraw says the gap in skill between America and the rest of the world is starting to shrink. Other countries around the world are starting to take soccer more seriously. Canada, Spain, and Germany are all becoming serious threats. The segment closes with callers discussing soccer at Lucas Oil Stadium, and the Colts uniforms. (45:09 - 1:09:44) - More Colts jersey talk. What if this is an audition for a new standard Colts jersey? Now that the Washington Commanders have been sold, the team may be changing its name and imaging again. A caller has some stories for Jake. Jake and callers go on a trip down memory lane with Indianapolis hosting the Pan-American Games. (1:09:45 - 1:23:56) - A final caller involving the Pan-Am games. Mark has concerns about the Colts schedule this year. With the team's lack of cornerbacks there are several offenses that could pose a major threat against the team this year. Mark runs down the list of teams and Jake gives his levels of concern on each individual team. Depth is the Colts biggest concern this season. (1:23:57 - 1:32:44) - Indiana State Fair Ticket Giveaway (1:32:45 - 2:00:52) - George Bremer of the Anderson Herald Bulletin joins the program to talk about the Indianapolis Colts upcoming season. Bremer also gives his initial view on the new Colts jerseys. Talk turns to Shaquille Leonard's health coming up to the 2023 season, and while the video he released is encouraging, nothing is really set in stone until he is finally back on the field and up to speed. Bremer believes that Jonathan Taylor's contract is more concerning than Leonard's health. He also believes that Anthony Richardson is the main choice for starting week one at quarterback. Michael Pittman Jr. as the Colts primary receiver is going to have to also help be that reliable source for Richardson. Training camp with fewer and shorter practices seems to be more of a hinderance than a help to Bremer. (2:00:53 - 2:12:29) - Pop Quiz (2:12:30 - 2:20:02) - Jake can stop a Bucc-ee's competitor Wally's on his way to Iowa.Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/the-wake-up-call-1075-the-fan/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Rick DeMulling Stops by The Show!
Rick DeMulling former Guard for the Indianapolis Colts calls in to the program to talk about the team's upcoming training camp. DeMulling had a unique experience as a player coming to Indianapolis as summer humidity didn't really affect him in the Pacific Northwest. He describes the Midwest weather as "hoping you don't die." At what point did he stop looking over his shoulder in training camp and did he ever feel like he didn't have to take training camp as seriously. Great back and forth between Jake and Rick about players mental health and how it shows over the course of a season. DeMulling gives his opinion on joint practices and if they are beneficial to a team. Thursday 7/20 - Colts Unveil New Alternate Uniforms, Jarace Walker Injury News, Rick DeMulling, Scott Agness, and Zak Keefer Join The Show
(00:00 - 23:44) - Thursday's Kevin & Query kicks off with Jake almost being late to the show! An accident on Meridian slowed him down but he made it into the studio at just the right time. The big news this morning is that Jarace Walker is reportedly injured. A Woj tweet revealed that he has elbow surgery. Walker is expected to still be ready when training camp starts later this year. Somebody won the Powerball last night. What do modern players think of training camp compared to older players? (23:45 - 28:20) - Morning Checkdown (28:21 - 43:27) - A quick Huey Lewis memory from Jake. Saquon Barkley appeared on the Money Matters podcast yesterday and had some harsh words for the New York Giants organization, claiming he could potentially just choose to sit out the 2023 season. Do Barkley's actions and words give or take power away from Jonathan Taylor and his negotiating power with the Colts. Despite Daniel Jones's improvement at quarterback, Barkley is still the Giants main offensive weapon and that has to count for something. (43:28 - 1:09:59) - Rick DeMulling former Guard for the Indianapolis Colts calls in to the program to talk about the team's upcoming training camp. DeMulling had a unique experience as a player coming to Indianapolis as summer humidity didn't really effect him in the Pacific North West. (1:10:00 - 1:28:53) - Scott Agness of the Pacer's Fieldhouse Files comes on the show to discuss the Jarace Walker news regarding his elbow surgery. Agness has to first describe what "loose bodies" are, those being the reason for Walker's surgery. Agness says that this really isn't much of a story, plenty of players go through minor operations like this from season to season and it doesn't get picked up by media. Agness moves on to give the highlights of the Pacers summer league, the performances of Bennedict Mathurin and Isaiah Jackson were impressive to him. George Hill has been very open about his desire to play at least one more season with the Pacers, but the team still has to make room for him. After, Hill has a strong desire to be involved with the team in a different capacity. (1:28:54 - 1:34:25) - Indiana State Fair Ticket Giveaway. (1:34:36 - 2:04:22) - Zak Keefer, the NFL writer for The Athletic joins the show. His segment opens up with a lot of talk about his new position with The Athletic, covering the NFL as a whole instead of just the Colts. Keefer teases several stories he has a level of excitement about writing. His new position will include a lot of profiles including a story on Adam "Pacman" Jones. Jake asks Keefer to detail more on the process of writing a profile on a person he is not familiar with personally and how he builds a raport with them. Blake Martinez is apparently retiring from the NFL to sell Pokemon Cards. How long can the Colts rely on Jonathan Taylor while Anthony Richardson develops at quarterback. Keefer stresses that Indianapolis has to fix the infrastructure around Richardson quickly in order for him to succeed. (2:04:23 - 2:12:34) - Pop Quiz (2:12:35 - 2:21:10) - The Colt's alternate jersey is being revealed today. Jake and Marc run down some of their favorite NFL jerseys of all time. (26:41 - 30:31) - Morning Checkdown (30:32 - 46:10) - Former Indianapolis Colt Edgerrin James joins the show to give his take on the Jonathan Taylor situation. James argues that valuing your running game only makes the rest of the team stronger. In a lot of ways, the stronger your running game the better a team's passing game can become. He has only played a handful of minutes since a misdiagnosed ankle problem last season, where the root of the problem was actually nerves in his back. If you were in the NFL where would you do your offseason training? Jake gets the Super Mario Bros. lore explained to him by Marc. (1:13:00 - 1:25:10) - Indiana State Fair giveaway. A story about a wolf and a monkey on the loose. (1:25:11 - 1:33:13) - The Madden 99 list came out yesterday. The most interesting story for the Colts outside of Anthony Richardson and Shaquille Leonard is the team's cornerback situation. Taylor talks about the different confidence levels of players going into the 2023 season. Do Colt's players get injured more often than other teams, and does the turf surface have anything to do with it? Some of Taylor's favorite Edgerrin James memories. Best of Kevin & Query 07-18-23
(00:00 - 22:46) - Courtside Indiana's Jim Reamer joins the program to discuss Flory Bidunga's announcement of his final four schools. Jake has a feeling that his list of schools may not actually be finalized yet, but Reamer believes that the way Bidunga has handled the process so far that it is likely the truth. Bidunga's IU trip might have been cancelled. The conversation changes to NIL and how far of a reach does the concept have in college recruitment now. Reamer states NIL has grown so much it might have branched out of just being seen for Division 1 athletes. The positives and negatives of NIL in high-school recruitment now. (22:47 - 55:22) - Bob Kravitz comes on to the show, he just recently experienced a long travel day being stranded in Newark International Airport due to poor weather. Apparently two glasses of wine is $40+ in the airport. Kravitz announces that he is going to begin a Substack service where he writes whatever articles he wants. An extensive conversation about the recent job shake up in the Indianapolis media market. Is Jonathan Taylor becoming antiquated in the NFL? Kravitz believes that Jonathan Taylor would have been a top draft pick and top paid player 20 years ago, but the league has just changed since then. (1:08:05 - 1:27:11) - Audio from the Colts veteran mini-camp, Jonathan Taylor speaks on how runningbacks should be viewed in contract negotiations. Taylor clearly still wants to be the featured back on this Colts offense, but the league is so oversaturated that room may no longer be there. Now with so many quarterbacks running as much as they pass do teams not value the runningback as much knowing they have a QB that can pick up the slack as well? Colts are experts at wrapping players up in valuable positions with weird contracts. (1:27:12 - 1:29:37) - Indiana State Fair ticket give away. (1:29:38 - 2:03:04) - Bob Kravitz comes on to the show, he just recently experienced a long travel day being stranded in Newark International Airport due to poor weather. Kevin & Query - Friday, 6/30 - The Colts Released Isaiah Johnson and Rashod Berry, NBA Free-Agency Opens Up, Greg Rakestraw and Joel Erickson Join The Show!
(00:00 - 20:55) - Indianapolis air quality has improved due to last nights storms. Busy day for news in sports, the Colts released Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry yesterday. Jake believes that there are several players who probably have passively and unintentionally violated the NFL's gambling policy. How many players have placed a wager on a baseball game from a team facility thinking it was okay? Bad weather cancelled Marc's Savannah Bananas trip last night. Jake went to see Noel Gallagher of Oasis last night. Pacers (20:56 - 25:06) - Morning Checkdown (25:07 - 46:53) - Greg Rakestraw of the ISC Network and Indy Eleven joins the show. He and Jake immediately go back and forth on the news of Isaiah Rodgers suspension. Rakestraw believes that if Rodgers is allowed back in the league in the near future, he stands a chance to sign with a team again. This story is going to keep people's attention for awhile, possibly the next season or two, but players might start making mistakes again because of how available gambling is and how loose the rules are currently. Rakestraw goes over the six rules that the NFL has on gambling currently. Marc gets a quick word on Rakestraw's view of Pacers free agency. (46:54 - 1:10:00) - The second hour kicks off with Jake's view on how people treat Independence Day. Fireworks are great for 4th of July, but not at 1a.m. Chicago has a street race coming up, but the event isn't bringing a lot of people or business to Chicago. Taylor Swift brought more people to Chicago than the upcoming race will. Callers weigh in on their views of 4th of July, the Chicago Cubs, and Isaiah Rodgers. (1:10:01 - 1:20:35) - More callers phone into the show. Topics include Veterans and their relationship with fireworks, Isaiah Rodgers suspension, and Colt's season expectations. Jake details the different moralities involved in sports betting as an athlete. This scandal could affect the NFL's future if it is ever revealed that betting on games played a role in anyone's performance during a game. (1:20:36 - 1:33:07) - A caller verifies that Producer Sam's earlier statement on Oasis's hit song Wonderwall was true. That same called lobby's for Jake's fandom for their high-school basketball team. IndyCar talk about getting them to race again in Loudon. Race talk about how people view Romain Grosjean and Pato O'Ward. (1:333:08 - 2:00:56) - Joel A Erickson of the IndyStar joins the show to go into deep detail about Isaiah Rodgers year-long suspension from the NFL. Was Erickson surprised when Rashod Berry was released as well? Berry was suspended indefinitely even though he could have only bet one NFL game as a player last year. Erickson notes that betting on any game inside a team facility is earning players a six-game suspension, betting on the NFL is earning the year-long suspension. Erickson thinks that compared across multiple leagues the NFL actually has pretty relaxed gambling restrictions. The NCAA won't allow you to bet on any sport they govern. The Colt's cornerback room is young and inexperienced, they need to sign a veteran to help out the defense. (2:00:57 - 2:09:15) - Pop Quiz (2:09:16 - 2:20:56) - Marc's Top Ten European Countries he wants to visit. How could you make the most efficient European trip by train?Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/the-wake-up-call-1075-the-fan/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler Weighs In on Isaiah Rodgers' Suspension
Jeremy Fowler, senior writer for ESPN calls in to talk about Isaiah Rodgers' looming suspension. Will Rodgers have to apply for re-instatement after this suspension? Fowler believes that the only noteworthy part known so far is the length of the suspension. Fowler doesn't know if the NFL is trying to impose suspensions on a sliding scale or if they feel this is what they view as being a punishment for all players who take part in this sort of violation. The NFL wants to get ahead of a widespread gambling scandal by trying to re-enforce their gambling rules and practices. Fowler believes tomorrow could be the day we get more news on the NFL's upcoming suspensions & more!Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/the-wake-up-call-1075-the-fan/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kevin & Query - Thursday 06/29 - The NFL is Deciding Soon on the Isaiah Rodgers Controversy, There Was a Perfect Game in the MLB Last Night, Scott Agness and Jeremy Fowler on the Program!
(00:00 - 23:26) - The Thursday edition of Kevin & Query kicks off with the news of Rodgers alleged year-long suspension from the NFL over his gambling scandal. A perfect game was pitched last night as Domingo German of the New York Yankees managed to get it done in under 100 pitches. A correction to the "Who is The Best Family Feud Host" conversation from yesterday. (23:27 - 28:56) - Morning Checkdown (28:57 - 45:44) - Query wants to go through a full breakdown of Adam Schefter's comments on Isaiah Rodger's potential suspension on ESPN last night. NFL announced that they will be issuing the suspensions coming soon and will now require rookies to attend and education session. Jake found out about the story potentially breaking before it did, he details his investigation into the accusation once he was made aware of it. A read through of the NFL's gambling rules. (45:45 - 1:10:06) - The air quality in Indianapolis isn't much better from yesterday into today.
