Kevin & Query - Friday 6-16 - Jonathan Taylor Contract Negotiations, Wheel of Fortune Potential Sports Hosts, Greg Rakestraw and Dustin Dopirak Join the Show
(00:00 - 27:38) - Kevin Bowen is out on this Friday edition of Kevin & Query as he is taking an early Father's Day weekend. Marc Dycton slides over to the host seat and joins Jake Query in talking sports on The Fan. Jake begins by teasing Marc about a mega gas station that is moving in to Whitestown, Indiana.....Wally's a competitor to Buccee's. Indiana is about to have a gas station turf war with Wally's and Wawa coming to town in the near future. Sports talk begins around the Colt's OTAs wrapping up. Do players take it easy just before training camp and recover, or do you begin a personal training program to be at peak performance before training camp? Query believes that a player's position within the organization or experience within the league may determine what they choose to do as rookies would be more likely to train harder. Pacer's President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard reportedly ate with Kansas small forward/shooting guard after his workout with the team. (27:39 - 33:24) - Morning Checkdown (33:25 - 42:22) - The first segment comes to a close with return to Jonathan Taylor trade talk. Jake ponders if it is time to trade in Taylor for future pieces in the draft, or if he is someone they could keep around at a lighter pay grade given the current free agent market around running backs. The running back position is very undervalued in today's NFL. Jake could not even name the leading rusher in the NFL last season. (42:23 - 1:08:26) - Greg Rakestraw kicks off the eight o'clock hour and picks up the Jonathan Taylor conversation. Rakestraw thinks that Taylor is looking at a short-term contract no matter where he goes. No NFL team is in a position to offer running backs anything longer than three years and even that is stretching it for a back in the current NFL landscape. Taylor's best bet is likely to stay with the Colts as Indianapolis has a bit more money to throw around given their current quarterback situation. Jake wants to know where the Colts have the greatest amount of depth and wealth, Rakestraw responds with a potential surprising answer of the Tight-End position. The biggest question going into training camp is who the quarterback for the Colts will be going into week 1 of the regular season. Everything about first-round draft pick Anthony Richardson seems right for him to have the start on week 1, but when the bright lights are on will he be ready? Rakestraw winds down the conversation by talking about the IHSAA boys state finals in baseball later on tonight. (1:08:27 - 1:26:33) - From one guest into another as Dustin Dopirak of the Indy Star calls in to the program. Jake begins by issuing a formal apology for mispronouncing his name for the 30th time. The guys want to know if there is any truth to the report that Kevin Pritchard and Gradey Dick got dinner after his workout with the Pacers last night. Dopirak says it is entirely possible, especially since Dick was the only player in the workout last night. The situation might be different if it was a full 6-7 player event, but with just one player the session likely had a more personal feel. According to Dopirak, Gradey Dick is a player that could fit well within the Pacers organization especially as a wing shooter. He could be a bench player that fits into Buddy Hield's role if Hield ever were traded or did not re-sign with the team. Finally, Marc poses the ever-important question to Dopirak, who will the Pacers select with their first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft? (1:26:34 - 1:30:07) - Pat Sajak is stepping down as the host of Wheel of Fortune, who will replace him as host and will it be a former sports star? The guys are going to talk more about it at the top of the hour. (1:30:08 - 1:59:01) - Marc and Jake give their picks for sports themed replacement hosts for Wheel of Fortune after Pat Sajak steps down. What former Hoosier sports stars could potentially stand behind the wheel? How much has Jeff Saturday's interim head-coach stint with the Colts hurt his likeability? No one has heard from him since he didn't get the head coaching position, except for a tweet of him on a boat. A bit of breaking news mid segment, former Indiana Pacer Mike Dunleavy Jr. reportedly has been named the new General Manager of the Golden State Warriors. What about if Shaq or Charles Barkley hosted Wheel of Fortune?(1:59:02 - 2:05:27) - Pop Quiz (2:05:28 - 2:18:40) - Jake wants people's opinions on the best of four songs, more Wheel of Fortune host suggestions, and more Wally's vs. Buc-ee's talk. Kevin & Query - Monday 06/12 - Denver Nuggets Could Win the Finals in Five, Isaiah Rodgers Reports and Colts OTA's, Pacers Draft Potential.
(00:00 - 31:05) - The Monday morning edition of Kevin & Query opens with anticipation over the Denver Nuggets potentially closing out the championship series in five games tonight and winning their first franchise NBA Championship. Indiana State had a good run but unfortunately, they were eliminated by TCU over the weekend. It still was a solid showing and good community effort given how the situation could have played out. Kevin and Jake were on some weird text chain over the weekend. Novak Djokovic wins 23rd Grand Slam after French Open win. (31:06 - 36:06) - Morning Checkdown (36:07 - 46:01) - Preview of Colts upcoming season and review of OTA's. Kevin expresses a bit of disappointment in the lack of experience that Colts Quarterbacks Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew have gotten with a primary receiving core. That will change come mandatory minicamp, but will it be enough. Further breakdown of the Isaiah Rodgers situation and the other players across the NFL who were a part of the scandal. (46:02 - 1:17:26) - Gregg Doyel of the IndyStar comes onto the show after a week off from work, and what a week it was to miss. Doyel is asked about the Rodgers situation and whether or not the Colts will let him serve his punishment or just cut him outright. Doyel believes that Rodgers won't lose his ability while he is out, but he also won't be able to catch up with the rest of the NFL and may take longer to catch up even after the suspension is over. Doyel finds out mid-call that the Rodgers report involved him gambling on Colts games. Knowing that Doyel is certain that Rodgers will be gone from the team if this proves to be true. Doyel brings up multiple times that gambling is a scary thing and its availability in the United States now could lead to situations like this becoming more common. Doyel also touches on the byline strike going on over at the IndyStar. (1:17:27 - 1:30:04) - Query opens this segment posing a question to Kevin about OTAs and how Colts new head coach Shane Steichen is splitting up offensive reps between Minshew and Richardson. Query says this is the first time the Colts franchise has ever had to truly worry about their quarterback position for more than just a season. Will Richardson be able to finally fill in that hole in the Colts offense? (1:30:05 - 1:34:26) - Quick touch and go segment where Kevin tells a story about Purdue's Zach Edey attending the high school golf tournament for a Freshman from Zionsville that he met playing Fortnite. (1:34:27 - 2:02:25) - Pat Boylan, Pacer's sideline reporter, joins the show to kick off the final hour. Kevin starts with some talk about the Indiana Fever and how they start strong but fall apart late in games. Query asks about Aliyah Boston, the Fever's first overall draft pick and how while she isn't exactly a stat leader just yet but she exhibits leadership qualities. Boylan confirms that as a player Boston has a great amount of poise and confidence for a rookie. Talk eventually turns to the Pacers and if what holding onto the 6th overall pick will do for them in the 2023 NBA Draft. Boylan believes that the Pacers are looking for a stretch four or a wing defender as their biggest need for the upcoming season and will be their primary target in the draft. Kevin gives Pat the Pacer's 5 draft picks this year and asks him what it would take to move up from 7th to 2nd or 3rd in the draft. (2:02:26 - 2:13:17) - Pop Quiz (2:13:18 - ) - Closing talk involving trips to Europe, Denver's ticket costs for the NBA finals and how many NBA fans probably thought they'd never hear the phrase "NBA Champion Denver Nuggets"Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/the-wake-up-call-1075-the-fan/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kevin & Query - Friday 06/09 - Full Show, College Football scheduling has shifted dramatically in the Big 10, Does Dalvin Cook's release mean anything to the Colts and Jonathan Taylor, Greg Rakestraw and George Bremen call in!
(00:00 - 29:45) - The Friday edition of Kevin & Query kicks off with a brief recap of the Florida Panthers overtime victory over the Las Vegas Golden Knights. The Stanley Cup Final series now sits at 2-1 in favor of the Golden Knights. Playoff Hockey always seems to make people wish they watched more hockey. College scheduling for football dominates the first segment of the show with discussion on IU and Purdue's schedules now that the Conference Matchups are now a non-factor in scheduling. USC and UCLA will likely have a lot of away fans at their Big-10 Games. Notre Dame has a new Athletic Director and how will he effect their program going forward? (29:46 - 34:18) - Morning Checkdown (34:19 - 47:47) - Dalvin Cook was released from the Minnesota Vikings today, can the Indianapolis Colts use that as some sort of leverage with Jonathan Taylor? How much longer will Taylor be an elite level running back in the NFL and can the team risk slapping a franchise tag on him after his rookie contract expires. Gardner Minshew and Anthony Richardson have been throwing to wide receivers and tight-ends that might not even be on the team come regular season. With the Colts Top-3 wideouts on the sideline these quarterbacks may struggle to get off to a good start. (47:48 - 1:19:15) - Before our guest joins Jake Query mentions that listeners could potentially be his spotter at the August IndyCar/NASCAR double header. Check out his Twitter page to bid on your chance to help him out! Then Greg Rakestraw of the ISC network joins the program to talk about the Indiana-Kentucky Classic happening over the weekend. All-Star high-school basketball players from both states will face off against each other in both boys and girls basketball with this inter-state rivalry contest. Kevin asks Rakestraw to breakdown high school players from Indiana and their potential college landing spots in the coming years. The guys all speculate over Flory Bidunga, the state's top basketball prospect, and what college will be his landing spot. Talk turns to MLS and Lionel Messi's signing to Inter Miami and how that will impact soccer in America. (1:19:16 - 1:31:57) - Game by game breakdown of IU and Purdue's new football schedule with the Conference matchups now being dissolved. Breakdown of the history of Big Ten Championship matchups and what teams have dominated in their individual era. (1:31:58 - 1:39:24) - Anniversary of Elvis's last concert at Market Square Arena. Jake reflects on the last fan to ever interact with Elvis Presley, and apparently found the person who had the scarf he threw into the crowd at his last concert. What is the most expensive piece of memorabilia that Kevin & Query own. (1:39:25 - 2:05:03) - George Bremer, who covers the Indianapolis Colts for The Herald Bulletin in Anderson, Indiana joins the show. He breaks down the Colts current running back situation with Dalvin Cook's release from Minnesota and how that might change what the Colts try to offer Jonathan Taylor. Bremer goes into detail on how both Indiana's quarterbacks in Minshew and Richardson need more time with starting line ups before the regular season and hopefully they will get that exposure in the pre-season.
