Best of Kevin & Query - Friday 03/31 - Greg Rakestraw and Stephen Holder both call in to talk a variety of Indy Sports.

(00:00 - 20:53) - Greg Rakestraw of the ISC Network joins the program and puts a bow on last weeks IHSAA State Finals in basketball. There are always a handful of college coaches at the finals, but the Ben Davis vs. Kokomo game had a very large presence of recruiters. Rakestraw claims it was the biggest gathering of recruiters he can remember in his time covering the tournament. Talk turns to Rakestraw's predictions for the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament. Moving on to Colt's conversation, Dykton wants to know what the grade is for the Colts this offseason. Rakestraw says that the grade will be incomplete until the draft is over. The free agent signings have started to set the table but there will be no telling until the draft is over, and the quarterback situation is resolved. The Indy Eleven home opener is this Saturday. Coming off a draw against Tampa Bay and a 1-0 win in Detroit, the Eleven are off to a hot start against two playoff teams from last season. (20:54 - 43:51) - From one guest right into another, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com is on the phone line to talk Colts. Holder is asked to predict the team's first draft pick and he believes that it will be Anthony Richardson joining the team. Indianapolis has spent a lot of time looking at Anthony Richardson, despite Irsay saying he is very high on Will Levis, the team seems to have focused in more on Richardson's actions since the combine. Holder doesn't believe there is any chance that the Colts will trade up or down in the draft. The opportunity to get one of these quarterbacks is too tempting to risk giving your space up. The other side of the current quarterback coin is trying to sign Lamar Jackson. Holder believes that is Jackson is open to a conversation then it benefits Jim Irsay and Chris Ballard to have that conversation. Lastly, Stephen Holder is predicting an all-Florida NCAA Championship basketball game. Kevin & Query - Friday 03/31 - Major League Baseball opening day recap, Pacers vs. Thunder preview, Greg Rakestraw and Steven Holder join the show.

(00:00 - 25:40) - A strong start to the Friday show as Jake starts with a Storm Chasers pun. The Indianapolis Indians home opener, pending weather, is supposed to kick off tonight against the Omaga Storm Chasers. The Milwaukee Bucks demolished the Pacers on Wednesday and then got obliterated by 40 the next day. Wrestlemania is this weekend. Jake recalls passing around bootleg VHS tapes of UFC events. Major League Baseball opening day was yesterday. Chicago Cubs and White Sox are both off to a strong start with wins in their opener. The Cincinnati Reds fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jake promotes the inter-office pick'em league for the MLB this season. Pro-Days continued yesterday, quarterback Anthony Richardson hit a fan on the roof. (25:41 - 31:26) - Morning Checkdown (31:27 - 46:04) - What is the weight of an NFL Pro-Day on how a team views a potential draft pick? Will Levis being 23 might give him an edge in terms of development for a team, making him a an appealing pick. The Colts still have been patient for years now with team owner Jim Irsay trusting the general manager Chris Ballard for multiple seasons. The clock is going to start ticking now that the Colts are in yet another quarterback conundrum. Will any of the rookie quarterbacks be able to live up to the pressure that both Irsay and Ballard will be putting on them from the start of the season? Irsay is a catalyst in freeing a whale back into the wild. (46:05 - 1:13:07) - Greg Rakestraw of the ISC Network joins the program and puts a bow on last weeks IHSAA State Finals in basketball. There are always a handful of college coaches at the finals, but the Ben Davis vs. Kokomo game had a very large presence of recruiters. Lastly, Stephen Holder is predicting an all Florida NCAA Championship basketball game. (1:35:21 - 1:54:49) - MLB conversation pick backs up. Jake wants to know Marc's 5 Cubs memories growing up. Jake also gives his baseball memories growing up, from World Series Games he remembers to famous baseball players who stopped by Indianapolis in the minor leagues. He hopes that baseball memories are something that kids are still forming to this day. What are some the most overrated baseball movies? Jake wants to display his hidden talent. (1:54:50 - 2:03:58) - Pop Quiz (2:03:59 - 2:23:08) - Jake manages to verbatim repeat the interviews of every coach and player from IU's 1987 championship win to close out the show. Jake compares and contrasts growing up and seeing the IU stadium, team, and fandom compared to Purdue's. Best of Kevin & Query - Friday 3/24 - Greg Rakestraw and Guerin Catholic Head Coach Bobby Allen Talk IHSAA State Finals

(00:00 - 22:11) - Greg Rakestraw of the ISC Sports Network joins the show. Briefly Kevin and Rakestraw touch on Micah Shrewsberry signing on as Notre Dame's head coach. Notre Dame used to have a huge national presence in the basketball world, and it looks like the team is trying to recapture that stature in the collegiate basketball world. Flory Bidunga, originally from the Congo and playing for Kokomo High-School is one the most touted prospects in high-school basketball. While being heavily recruited, Rakestraw believes that Bidunga will still be playing in Kokomo next year and not transfer to a higher ranked high school. The conversation turns more to the specific matchups between NorthWood and Guerin Catholic in 3A basketball, and Ben Davis versus Kokomo in 4A. Ben Davis is looking to accomplish and undefeated championship season. (22:12 - 33:16) - The Guerin Catholic head-coach Bobby Allen closes out the program talking about the team's appearance in the IHSAA State Championship tomorrow at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Allen has played and won a state championship as a student, this would be his first championship as a coach. Guerin Catholic had a rough season to start at one point sitting with a 12-8 record. Allen was wondering if the team would even finish the season with a winning record. Allen says the team was able to just buckle down and stay the course. Their rebound on the season and trip to the state finals has coach Allen believing that his team will be able to control the pace on the floor tomorrow and bring home a state championship. Kevin & Query - Friday 03/24 - 1st Half of the Sweet Sixteen is in the book, Pacers play the Celtics tonight, Greg Rakestraw and Bobby Allen talk IHSAA State Basketball Finals!

(00:00 - 27:43) - It's Friday, Kevin's shirt is back on, and we have some Sweet Sixteen games to recap. Gonzaga and UCLA had an absolute thriller. UCLA launches a huge comeback only to barely fall short against Gonzaga. Julian Strawther shot and hit a game winner in his hometown of Las Vegas. 0 Big Ten teams have made the Sweet Sixteen in the last two tournaments. The Florida Atlantic Owls reach their first Elite Eight in program history. This is Kansas State's third Elite Eight since 2010, but both times prior they lost to a Mid-Major University. Could the same happen with Florida Atlantic? (27:44 - 33:58) - Morning Checkdown (33:59 - 44:51) - Jake will be live at Broad Ripple Tavern doing a Jack Daniels Pop-A-Shot with cash prize potential later today. Jake goes over his first night with the new cat. IU's first player has entered the transfer portal, Logan Duncomb out of Cincinnati will be the first Hoosier to enter the portal this year. (44:52 - 1:13:49) - Greg Rakestraw of the ISC Sports Network joins the show. The conversation turns more to the specific matchups between NorthWood and Guerin Catholic in 3A basketball, and Ben Davis versus Kokomo in 4A. Ben Davis is looking to accomplish and undefeated championship season. (1:13:50 - 1:24:44) - More talk on NCAA matchups. Will Princeton be able to continue the Cinderella story? Kevin and Query equate the game to St. Peters upset over Purdue last year. Andrew Nembhard's brother, Ryan, is still playing in the tournament on Creighton. (1:24:45 - 1:33:02) - Pro-days continue in the NFL and the Colts need to narrow down who they intend to take with the 4th pick in the NFL Draft. A quarterback is still the leading candidate for that pick, and C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, and Bryce Young all were on display yesterday. (1:33:03 - 1:57:58) - Another reminder to join Jake at Broad Ripple Tavern tonight for Pop-A-Shot. The Pacers and Celtics tip off tonight at 7. The blue and gold are in a unique NBA gray area where they could make the playoffs through the play-in, but that would weaken the team's chances at getting a high draft pick. Jalen Hood-Schifino of IU and Zach Edey of Purdue are being thrown around as picks. Cleveland will definitely make the playoffs meaning the Pacers will get their 1st round draft pick in 2024. With Boston's 1st rounder as well, that gives Indiana three total 1st round picks in the upcoming draft. What kind of luck will the Pacers have in the lottery drawing this year? The team certainly has the ability to trade up with the amount of draft stock they already have. (1:57:59 - 2:06:36) - Pop Quiz (2:06:37 - 2:17:40) - The Guerin Catholic head-coach Bobby Allen closes out the program talking about the team's appearance in the IHSAA State Championship tomorrow at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. While Bennedict Mathurin has performed up to expectations this season, it is Andrew Nembhard who has been the standout rookie this year performing well above and beyond what people thought he was capable of. Agness goes over how many if any Pacers players may want to sit the remaining games of the season knowing that the playoffs are still possible but unlikely. (8:33 - 31:27) - Zak Keefer of WISH TV is on the road attending Pro-Day camps, but still has time to call in to the show. Keefer says that attending the Pro-Days of players you might not even intend to draft is still important because you get intel on players you will see later in the year. He also says that discussions with other scouts and media on Pro-days reveal a lot of information about other teams headspace going into the season. Ballard only attends a small handful of Pro-days, however he does often draft the players workouts he attends. Keefer believes that the Colts are going to try and move up to third in the draft. He says it is time for Indianapolis to go get the quarterback they want and stop waiting around.Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/the-wake-up-call-1075-the-fan/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kevin & Query - Thursday 3/23 - Micah Shrewsberry and Kevin's shirt are the talk of the town, Scott Agness and Zak Keefer call in.

(00:00 - 25:32) - The Thursday show is off the rails from the word go. Kevin starts the show by following through on yesterday's promise of taking off his shirt and bringing in donuts after the announcement of Micah Shrewsberry signing on as head coach of Notre Dame Men's Basketball. The show has a very difficult time getting back on track but when it does the discussion turns to the Indiana Pacers and their win over the Toronto Raptors last night, 118-114. The Pacers stand a chance to make the play-in game, but do we really want them to or is it all about the draft at this point? More Notre Dame talk, this time about the appeal of Notre Dame to Shrewsberry and how the Fighting Irish benefit from his leadership. (25:33 - 30:33) - Morning Checkdown (30:34 - 46:35) - Pro-days are going on right now. The Carolina Panthers, who currently hold the #1 overall draft pick are viewing all of the high-profile quarterbacks. Who will the Colts be looking at, and will Carolina's viewing habits change the Colts plans. Michigan State is a powerhouse in the NCAA tournament despite being a lower seed than IU and Purdue. This could be credited due to the team purposefully taking on a tougher schedule than other Big Ten Teams. Is this something Purdue coach Matt Painter or IU coach Mike Woodson should explore? (46:36 - 1:13:42) - Hour two starts, the shirt is still off, and the Scott Agness of the Fieldhouse Files joins the show ahead of his usual spot. The Pacer's Podcast host starts off reminding everyone that the season is about growth and exploring new options for team direction. He finds it in the Pacers best interest to not make the play-in tournament this season. (1:13:43 - 1:26:27) - The closer we get to the transfer portal for college basketball, the more antsy players may become to change schools. Will this hurt or help IU next year? Kevin will have his shirt back on when he teaches a class at IU later today. Chris Ballard certainly has to be feeling some pressure in free agency to delive a squad the makes up for last years. Jake thinks people put too much stock in free agency and over spend on players, while Kevin thinks the value may be weighted too heavily on the draft. (1:26:28 - 1:35:56) - Jake recalls his story about an incident with a cat. This experience has lead to him adopting a cat to try and make good on the unfortunate circumstance. (1:35:57 - 2:06:12) - Zak Keefer of WISH TV is on the road attending Pro-Day camps, but still has time to call in to the show. Keefer says that attending the Pro-Days of players you might not even intend to draft is still important because you get intel on players you will see later in the year. He also says that discussions with other scouts and media on Pro-days reveal a lot of information about other teams headspace going into the season. He says it is time for Indianapolis to go get the quarterback they want and stop waiting around. (2:06:13 - 2:15:43) - Pop Quiz (2:15:44 - 2:22:12) - The Carolina Panthers, who are coached by Colts former head coach Frank Reich, seem to already have an idea of who they will be taking day one. Best of Kevin & Query - Wednesday 03/22 - Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter, Joel Erickson, and Dane Fife

(00:00 - 13:46) - The new Colts Offensive Coordinator Jim Bob Cooter joins the show early. This is his second stint in Indianapolis as he was here before in 2009 as an Offensive Assistant. Cooter is excited to be working with Gardner Minshew again. As a staff the offense is looking to evaluate every position at this point in the off season. What does Cooter's game week look like knowing that he is not calling plays this season. The excitement of pro-days is something he looks forward to as it is the beginning of building bonds with new players. (13:47 - 34:51) - Joel Erickson of the Indy Star calls in to talk about the Colts and the NFL Pro-day. Erickson will also be covering the owner's meeting next week. Erickson wants to know if the Colts are going to be comfortable taking a rookie quarterback and seeing how they turn out as opposed to competing for the division. The fan base clearly wants to see results next season, but a rookie quarterback might not produce those results right away. The Colts should address more positions in free agency, so they don't feel pressured in the draft. This year's draft is short on Wide Receivers which is unlike many of the previous years. (34:52 - 1:00:45) - Dane Fife, former IU player and assistant coach joins the program to talk some NCAA basketball. Fife saw Purdue lose live to the sixteenth seed Fairleigh Dickinson. He feels like coaches probably feel more excitement around the tournament than players. Fife saw the ball start rolling against Purdue, and no one had the ability to stop it. Query wants to know if there is a certain style of play a team can have to dominate across all leagues, and not just their respective conference. Fife doesn't know if there is any certain team make up that could guarantee a team success. The key is one player who can always buy you a bucket. What will Purdue vs. IU need in the transfer portal next season?Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/the-wake-up-call-1075-the-fan/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kevin & Query - Wednesday 03/22 - Pacers play in Toronto tonight, Colts are preparing for Pro-day, Offensive Coordinator Jim Bob Cooter joins the show.

(00:00 - 12:09) - A short first segment to start off the Wednesday show in order to make time for Indianapolis Colts Offensive Coordinator Jim Bob Cooter who will be calling in at the bottom of the hour. The World Baseball Classic finals were last night with Japan beating the U.S. 3-2. Query points out that the finals were exciting but not many people would recognize the names of the game's stars. (12:10 - 15:26) - Morning Checkdown (15:27 - 42:22) - The new Colts Offensive Coordinator Jim Bob Cooter joins the show early. (1:14:00 - 1:26:31) - Gonzaga and UCLA previously had one of the greatest games in NCAA tournament history, they look to repeat that in their Sweet 16 match up tomorrow. Kevin spoke to an NFL Scout who seems to indicate that the Colts are leaning more towards Will Levis than Anthony Richardson in the 2023 NFL Draft. (1:26:32 - 1:31:50) - For 9 straight years a 5th or lower seed has made the final four of the NCAA Championship. Will either Creighton, Princeton, or Michigan State make that happen this year? (1:31:51 - 2:04:58) - Dane Fife, former IU player and assistant coach joins the program to talk some NCAA basketball. Fife saw Purdue lose live to the sixteenth seed Fairleigh Dickinson. Best of K&Q 03-21-23

(00:00 - 23:00) - Indiana High School sports reporter for the Indy Star Kyle Neddenrip joins the show to talk IHSAA State Finals taking place this weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The conversation starts with Neddenrip recalling Indiana players he covered that are now in the NCAA Tournament, like Florida Atlantic's leading scorer Johnell Davis out of Gary, IN. Ben Davis is currently on a history making run in Indiana basketball. They will face Kokomo, and if they win will acheive an undefeated championship season. Speculation on if Markus Burton is a lock for Mr. Indiana Basketball. This year the state tournament saw a change back to its original format. Regionals being one game and Semi-States having two games in a day. Neddenrip says that the change was not received too well this year but in time people will adapt to it. (23:01 - 39:54) - Tony East, the Sports Illustrated writer for the Pacers joins the show and talks about their unfortunate loss to the Charlotte Hornets and how it may eliminate them from a chance at playing in to the post season. East believes that the Pacers are playing a lot of young members right now not just due to team injuries, but as an audition for the future of the team. Nembhard and Nwora seem to be standouts to become key pieces of the Pacer's rotation next season. Both the backup centers in Jalen Smith and Isiah Jackson have faltered this season, according to East, and may have fewer minutes or become a higher trade piece next season. Can the Pacers intrigue Tyrese Haliburton to sign a 5-year max deal when his contract comes up. Kevin & Query - Tuesday 03/21 - IU Women's team eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, Pacers lose to the Charlotte Hornets, Tony East and Kyle Neddenrip call in to the show.

(00:00 - 29:24) - Kevin and Query open up the Tuesday show with a recap of the Pacers loss to the Charlotte Hornets last night. Indiana lead by a large margin in the 1st quarter and slowly let the lead slip throughout the rest of the game. Jake gave a speech at the Indiana Officials Association banquet last night. The IU women's team and men's team each lost to Miami in their respective NCAA tournaments. This is the 10th time in tournament history this has occurred. The "arena" of college athletics has changed, not just due to NIL, but because players can now be more vocal in their desires to leave schools. There are some college coaching availabilities this year for basketball teams. Penn State's Micah Shrewsberry might be available, is he a fit for Notre Dame? Colts Free Agency has gone quiet in the second week. (29:25 - 33:26) - Morning Checkdown (33:27 - 45:25) - Colts owner Jim Irsay like a tweet over the weekend about Indianapolis pursuing Lamar Jackson. The Colts have not rules out giving Jackson an offer, but have yet to take any steps towards signing him per Stephen Holder of The Athletic. How many years of prime Lamar Jackson are left and is it worth the money that Jackson is clearly looking for in his contract. Would it be worth it to run into a cap space issue as the Colts will likely want to extend Jonathan Taylor when his contract comes up. Right now Indianapolis should be looking to be on the upswing just as several teams in the league are approaching their down swing. (45:26 - 1:13:41) - Indiana High School sports reporter for the Indy Star Kyle Neddenrip joins the show to talk IHSAA State Finals taking place this weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The conversation starts with Neddenrip recalling Indiana players he covered that are now in the NCAA Tournament, like Florida Atlantic's leading scorer Johnell Davis out of Gary, IN. Regionals being one game and Semi-States having two games in a day. Neddenrip says that the change was not received too well this year but in time people will adapt to it. (1:13:42 - 1:25:50) - A week into free agency for the Indianapolis Colts, Kevin and Query break down the new signings and how the Colts camp has gone silent entering week two. Is Gardner Minshew ANOTHER stop gap quarterback? What happens if we have to wait another year to acquire a franchise quarterback. Minshew checks a lot of boxes for Indianapolis and seems to be a sufficient starter for the start of the season. The guys are a bit disappointed in how Indianapolis has slowed down so early into free agency when there are so many holes that still need filled. (1:25:51 - 1:33:57) - Callers start to join in the conversation on Colts free agency. A season ticket holder will not be renewing this season, another caller doesn't know why the team or Lamar Jackson would risk pairing up. (1:33:58 - 2:01:17) - Tony East, the Sports Illustrated writer for the Pacers joins the show and talks about their unfortunate loss to the Charlotte Hornets and how it may eliminate them from a chance at playing in to the post season. Kevin & Query - Monday 03/20 - A Recap of the Less Than Stellar Weekend for IU and Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. Bob Kravitz joins the show.

(00:00 - 28:04) - How else could the Monday edition of Kevin & Query open than with the disappointing losses of Indiana and Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. Purdue being only the second #1 seed to fall to a #16 seed in the tournament. Jake comments on how Big Ten teams get too used to the Big Ten competition which doesn't translate to opponents from other conferences. The Boilermakers last loss was a flashback to last season when they were upset by another double-digit seed in St. Peters. Purdue got off to such a strong start because their star players experienced a huge bump in skill from last season, but once teams were able to adapt, they didn't have that same advantage. The IU Hoosiers just didn't play like a team that wanted to be there against Miami. The team didn't take advantage of what is likely their last season before a hard reset. Kevin & Query think that pretty much every IU star will be either graduating or declaring for the NBA Draft by next season. (28:05 - 32:32) - Morning Checkdown (32:33 - 45:27) - The first hour closes with speculation over whether or not Matt Painter will continue to be the Boilermakers head-coach next basketball season. Query believes that Painter's consistency in the regular season is testament enough to keep him for another season. Player development and high-profile wins are clearly a strength of Painter, and figuring out March is just the final step. Kevin thinks that some sort of late season gameplan change is necessary to become a strong and unpredictable team. What percentage of Purdue fans truly want Matt Painter fired? (45:28 - 1:14:00) - Miami always had an answer for IU last night. The Hoosiers just never had a leg up from the word go and it showed. IU fans went all in on this tournament and to see players potentially not be as invested as you are in the team's success is a disappointment. Callers have a lot to weigh in on regarding Purdue. Calls range from Painter acquiring some more athletic players in the coming seasons, to questions about Painter's ability to compete in the world of NIL. Does being able to develop players really matter in a world where they can just choose to leave for more money the next season? (1:14:01 - 1:28:53) - Jake debuts his pick for a Sweet Sixteen matchup by putting on a shirt from that college. He predicts an Arkansas victory over UConn tonight. Kevin and Query go over all the possible matchups with some banter on who they predict will be making an Elite Eight appearance. San Diego State has been a surprise this season holding both their opponents in the tournament to season lows in scoring. The Fairleigh Dickinson head-coach has stated in the past the Notre Dame is his dream job, after the Purdue upset is that more of a reasonable idea? Query believes that UMBC's upset victory was still a bigger surprise than Fairleigh Dickinson's upset over the Boilermakers. Talk returns to the Hoosiers and how their players just fell flat on every opportunity against Miami. (1:28:54 - 1:32:32) - Touch and go segments teasing the upcoming interview with Bob Kravitz and updates on Kevin and Query's brackets. (1:32:33 - 2:03:27) - Bob Kravitz of The Athletic joins the program to talk about the NCAA Tournament Action. Kravitz predicted that IU would be in the tournament longer than Purdue, but didn't think that Fairleigh Dickinson would be the ones to send them packing. Kravitz thinks that Purdue needs guards in order to become a team that can compete outside of just the Big Ten. He is confident that Matt Painter will become a dominant coach at some point but needs to re-evaluate his recruiting to get there. Query transitions to IU talk and asks Kravitz what the Hoosiers will need to do in order to compete next season. Kravitz says the answer is the transfer portal. Freshman won't solve the problem IU is facing, so transfers are going to be the only way to continue their competitive streak. Kevin wants to know Bob's thoughts on Colts free agency. Kravitz is interested in the fact that Indianapolis spent so much on a kicker, which there is value in since so many NFL games come down to 3 points now. (2:03:28 - 2:12:08) - Pop Quiz (2:12:09 - 2:19:17) - Closing talk, warm weather coming up in the week, St. Patrick's Day recap. Which college basketball coaches are up for grabs after this season concludes?Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/the-wake-up-call-1075-the-fan/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
