We got a very exciting interview to kick off the week on The DFO Rundown as we welcomed Nashville Predators rookie sensation Tanner Jeannot to the show. He's fresh off scoring in the Stadium Series last night and he talked about the experience of playing in an outdoor game, which is something he considered to be his Welcome to the NHL moment. He also talked about his path from Oxbow, Saskatchewan to the NHL. He was never drafted and he had to grind to make it to the league and now he's on pace to set the Nashville Predators rookie goal-scoring record. He also talked about the influence of his parents, having them at the outdoor game, and becoming a father! It was an exciting week at Daily Faceoff as we welcomed Matt Larkin to our team! He joined the show and took his "first shift" with the DFO team. We got to know Matt on a bit of a personal level. Bayne is the first openly gay NHL agent after coming out just over a year ago. He spoke about breaking barriers, the support around him, and his new non for profit with Brock McGillis. Today on the DFO Rundown, Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor dug into all the stories around the NHL as the league returns from its All Star break. First on the agenda was what went down in Vegas over the weekend, both good and bad. Trevor Zegras stole the show with another highlight reel move in shootout challenge, but it was enough to beat the hometown favourite Alex Pietrangelo who missed the net. They continued to discuss what went well and areas of improvement for All Star weekend. The talk then moved on to the New York Rangers. The Rangers are in a great spot right now, sitting second in the Metropolitan Division, but what will they do at the deadline? Is it time for them to go all in and make a run for Lord Stanley? Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks were in the headlines again this past week. One piece of news was that former Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers General Manager Peter Chiarelli had been interviewed for the vacant position in Chicago. The second was a little more controversial after chairman Rocky Wirtz refused to answer questions about the sexual assault case in 2010. The Vancouver Canucks finally made the big changes that their fan base was begging for as both GM Jim Benning, Head Coach Travis Green, and others were let go on Sunday. They ranked the teams in each division and talked about who they think will get to the playoffs in the West. We have another new member of our team at Daily Faceoff. Former NHL Referee Tim Peel is joining us for the upcoming season and he hopped on the podcast to talk about his career, the incident that happened last season, and more. Tim refereed over 1300 NHL games, 90 playoff games, and even got a chance to officiate the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He was one of the most experienced officials when his time with the NHL ended. We started the interview by digging into the incident that ended his NHL career and Tim gave his perspective on what happened and how it affected his life. We also got into the current state of NHL officiating, the mindset of an NHL referee, how the game changes between the regular season and playoffs, and much, much more. They got into why he's excited to be joining the team at Daily Faceoff and what he'll be doing this season. Of course, they also talked to him about his professional career. He wore eight different NHL sweaters during his 13-year NHL career and played for over 20 different professional teams. With all that travelling, Mike has an abundance of stories and also gave us some great insight into the world of goaltending. He also shared his unique connection to the world of racing. We went all the way back to the beginning of his career and Mike talked about being drafted, going to development camps, and how his career could have played out differently. He shared some great stories about the final year of his career as well, which was wild. He also shared why he's interested in getting into the media world!
