Ep 311Bobrovsky Steals Game One of The Stanley Cup Final

Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli are back with a Monday edition of the podcast as they recapped Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. They broke down how things played out in the series opener as the Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 series lead.Sergei Bobrovsky was electric, posting a shutout that featured more than a handful of jaw-dropping saves. What can the Oilers do to solve him? Gregor actually noticed some adjustments that the Oilers made.Frank also shared his major takeaways from each side. For the Oilers, he was impressed with the fact that the moment didn’t seem to big for them. He also liked that they were able to push the pace of the game. From the Panthers side, even though they didn’t have their best game, they got a win. They can be better and they also have the better goalie. They also talked about the very physical start of the series and how things will continue to play out in that department.Looking ahead to Game 2, the Oilers could be looking to make some changes with their lineup. Could Vincent Desharnais draw in? Will Head Coach Kris Knoblauch make any other lineup changes? The guys debated that.Away from the Stanley Cup Final, the big news of the weekend was the Washington Capitals' purchase of the popular salary cap website CapFriendly. With the sale, the site will be shut down on July 5th. Frank talked about what a massive loss this is for not just fans and media, but other teams around the league.Tyler also swung by for a new edition of Fill in the Blank, brought to you by Wendys.0:40 - Bob steals Game 19:50 - Game 1 takeaways13:00 - Oilers lineup changes17:30 - CapFriendly sold to the Capitals23:30 - Fill in the Blank29:30 - Jake Guentzal’s rights36:00 - Is Chicago a fit?45:00 - Marner updateWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 309The Stanley Cup Final is Set

The 2024 Stanley Cup Final matchup is set as both the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers punched their tickets to the big dance with victories on home ice this weekend. Jason and Frank started the podcast with a quick conversation about how these two teams stack up against each other. On the other side of the big wins of course are two gut-punch losses for the New York Rangers and Dallas Stars. The Rangers core seems pretty set and they should run it back, but GM Chris Drury has some tough calls to make when it comes to extending a few young players. On the other side, the Dallas Stars have a few older players, like Joe Pavelski and Matt Duchene, who they need to make decisions on. The guys debated that. From there, they circled back to the Panthers and talked about what makes them successful. Are they similar to Dallas? Or do they present different challenges to the Oilers?Tyler also swung by for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about when the NHL season starts, touching the Conference Finals trophies, and which team the guys are watching the closest heading into the summer. Tyler is keeping an eye on the Blackhawks while both Jason and Frank had different answers. To end the show, they gave their Stanley Cup Final picks.1:15 - The Stanley Cup Final is set7:35 - Rangers & Stars road ahead21:50 - The Panthers' strengths26:00 - Importance of a strong blueline31:40 - Buy or Sell37:00 - Who to watch this summer?41:45 - Stanley Cup Final picksWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 308Who Has The Edge in Each Conference Final?

The 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs just keep on getting better and better. Both the Eastern and Western Conference Finals are down to best-of-three’s and there has been a lot of drama in each series. Both Frank and Jason were out in Edmonton last night as the Oilers came from behind to win Game 4 against the Dallas Stars. There were plenty of positives to pull from the victory for the Oilers and on the other side, the Stars were dealt a massive blow as Chris Tanev didn’t play the third period after blocking a shot. Frank talked about how significant that loss could be.They also praised Head Coach Kris Knoblauch for his timely adjustments ahead of the game.Out East, the series is tied 2-2 heading back to MSG for Game 5. The Panthers have undoubtedly been the better team but Igor Shesterkin has evened things out and kept the Rangers in a lot of these games. Jason also praised the strong play of Alexis Lafreniere while also talking about how badly the Rangers need their star forwards to find their games. They also took a look at the coaching market as the Seattle Kraken officially introduced Dan Bylsma as their second Head Coach in franchise history. That means the San Jose Sharks are the only team with a vacancy behind their bench.Tyler returned to the show for a new edition of Fill in the Blank presented by Wendys. He asked the guys about a couple of the more interesting names that popped up on Frank’s first Trade Targets board of the offseason.3:30 - Oilers grab momentum12:40 - Can the Rangers find their game?20:00 - Benn’s impact & Hintz’s return25:50 - Kraken hire BylsmaWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 305The Oilers Force Game 7 & An Eastern Conference Final Preview

These Stanley Cup Playoffs just keep on getting more and more dramatic. The guys sat down in Edmonton to record an in-person edition of the podcast after watching the Oilers beat the Canucks 5-1 in Game 6 of their second-round series and has forced a seventh game.It feels like the Oilers got their swagger back a little bit with their big victory. Will that confidence carry over? Or is Game 7 a total coin flip? Jason and Frank discussed. They also hit on the Dallas Stars' dramatic double-OT win over the Colorado Avalanche. Dallas has looked like an absolute wagon these entire playoffs and that was true for most of this series against the Avalanche. Will they have an easy time with whoever comes out of the Pacific? Or will injuries hold them back?Tyler also popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank presented by Wendys where he asked the guys some big offseason questions about the teams who lost in the second round.Coming off those questions, they continued the conversation by talking about the big decisions that the Hurricanes have to make this summer. Do they need to make sweeping changes or can they run it back with a similar group? They also did their preview of the Eastern Conference Final. After putting away the Bruins in six games, the Panthers will meet the President's Trophy winning New York Rangers with a trip to the Stanley Cup Final on the line. The guys discussed the key battlegrounds in that series. They wrapped up the show by talking about the Craig Berube hiring in Toronto. Gregor wondered if he could have a Rick Tocchet like impact with this Maple Leafs group. Frank said this new hire needs to be paired with major roster changes.Frank also had an update on the Matvei Michkov situation. Ep 304Nichushkin’s Future & Goalie Decisions for the Oilers & Canucks

Frank and Jason are back with a fresh edition of The DFO Rundown as the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue to heat up. This is just the sixth time in NHL history that all four Round 2 series will go to six games or later. They started out in the Colorado vs Dallas series where the Avalanche picked up a massive win on Wednesday night to keep their season alive. Now, they’re heading back to home ice for Game 6. Can they push the Stars to a seventh game? That led to some talk about Valeri Nichuskin and his future. It was announced that he’s going into the third phase of the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, which comes with a six-month suspension. Will Nichuskin ever be back with the Avs? Frank and Jason talked about that. From there, they went into the series between the Bruins and Panthers where Jeremy Swayman has been outstanding for the Bruins. Speaking of goaltending, that’s the big storyline out West as both the Oilers and Canucks could have some crease drama brewing. They wrapped the show up with a new edition of Buy or Sell with Tyler, an update on the coaching market from Frank, and a tribute to the late Darren Dutchyshen.3:00 - Avs vs Stars & Nichushkin’s future14:45 - Bruins vs Panthers19:20 - Oilers vs Canucks32:00 - The Goalie Conundrum37:40 - Buy or Sell44:50 - Memorial Cup talk46:30 - Coaching UpdateWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 303Controversial Calls & The Oilers Goaltending Problem

Boston Bruins fans were up in arms on Sunday night as a controversial goalie interference review didn’t go their way and allowed the Panthers’ eventual game-winning goal to stay on the board. Jason and Frank started the show with that and then eventually moved on to the rest of the series between Boston and Florida, including another controversial moment involving Sam Bennett. They also hit on the other Eastern Conference series between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. The Canes are on the brink of elimination and the odds seem low that they’ll be able to pull of this comeback against the Rangers and that led to a conversation about what the franchise will do in the offseason. From there, they got to the Oilers and Canucks series. Goaltending has been a massive story in this series as Stuart Skinner was pulled in game three and the Oilers are down 2-1 despite controlling play for the majority of the series. Will the Oilers make a change in net ahead of game four? Or will they keep riding Skinner? They debated that and other potential lineup changes for the Oilers ahead of Game 4.They also talked about the Stars taking over their series against the Avalanche. What allowed this series to flip? Frank gave his take on that. They wrapped up the show with a new edition of Fill in the Blank and some talk about the coaching carousel that’s currently going on in the league.1:10 - Bennett goalie interference5:40 - Can the Bruins come back?7:20 - Canes vs Rangers20:30 - Canucks lead Oilers41:40 - Stars vs Avalanche44:00 - Fill in the Blank51:05 - Coaching searches54:10 - Leafs coaching updateWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 302Maple Leafs Search For a New Coach & Second Round Fireworks

The summer of big moves has begun in Toronto as they fired Sheldon Keefe this morning following another first-round exit. The move was expected and now that it’s official, the Leafs turn their attention to their next hire. Frank and Jason started the podcast by talking about some potential fits and also debated where this Leafs job ranks amongst the other vacancies around the league. They then got into the Stanley Cup Playoffs as second-round action is underway and it has been spicy. We have superstars fighting in Florida, teams out west blowing big leads, and a battle of two giants in the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. The Oilers held a three-goal lead in their series opener against the Canucks and ended up losing the game in regulation. Frank says it’s exactly the wake up call that the Oilers needed. Could the Oilers turn on the jets and make this a quick series or will they beat themselves like they have in years past?Tyler swung by for a fresh edition of Buy or Sell where asked the guys about some off-season topics including Juuse Saros’ future, the Capitals and Penguins summer plans, and how winning the draft lottery changes things for the Sharks. They wrapped up with some talk about the PWHL playoffs and the upcoming World Championships.0:55 - Keefe fired by Leafs9:05 - Jets need a new Head Coach10:10 - EDIT18:10 - Panthers vs Bruins21:05 - Canucks vs Oilers29:25 - Canes vs Rangers MAJOR EDIT (take our Gregor start)33:23 - EDIT SNIFFLE37:00 - Buy or Sell43:30 - PWHL playoffs & World ChampionshipsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 301Previewing a Potentially Electric Second Round

The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs has come to a close and as Frank said last week on the podcast, it was one of the least exciting first rounds we’ve seen in a while. There were only two series that went the distance and a handful ended in five games or earlier. While the first round wasn’t exactly eye-popping, it’s looking like the second round could be exactly that. Every matchup has some intriguing storylines behind it and there are some juggernaut matchups. Frank and Jason worked their way through the four series and talked about the key factors in each one.The Rangers are already up 1-0 on the Canes and that’s a series that could very easily go to seven games. The other Eastern series features a rested Panthers team going up against a Bruins team that just finished off the Leafs on Saturday night. Can the Bruins get revenge for last season? Before getting to the West, Tyler swung by for a new edition of Fill in the Blank, brought to you by Wendys. He asked the guys a couple of questions about round two and one about what the Leafs need to prioritize this summer. They then got into the two Western series. The Avs and Stars is going to be a grind and is another one that seems destined for seven. We also have an all-Canadian matchup between the Vancouver and Edmonton, which could lead to some serious fireworks both on the ice and online. They wrapped up the pdocast with some talk about what the Maple Leafs and Golden Knights will have to do this summer.4:40 - Rangers vs Canes preview12:30 - The Jack Adams18:00 - Panthers vs Bruins preview24:10 - Fill in the Blank30:50 - Stars vs Avalanche preview39:05 - Oilers vs Canucks46:00 - Changes in Toronto?50:05 - What’s next in Vegas?Want to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? It’s a milestone episode of The DFO Rundown as Jason and Frank have reached episode 300 of the show. They kicked things off by talking a little bit about that before getting into the hockey talk. They started out in Tampa Bay where the Bolts were bounced in five games by the Florida Panthers. The big story there surrounds the future of their Captain, Steven Stamkos. He’s right near the top of Frank’s ‘Top 50 Free Agents’ list but the guys seem to think he’s going to stay put. That led to some talk about other big name free agents, like Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault, who could be on his way out of Vegas. They also talked about some names lower down the list like Oilers defenseman Vinny Desharnais. That sparked a debate about what the definition of a true second-pairing defenseman is.From there, they got into the playoff talked about broke down the series that Frank is covering between the Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators. They also hit on the Golden Knights and Stars and the Oilers taking down the Kings for a third straight season. In this week’s edition of Buy or Sell, Tyler asked the guys a handful of questions relating to the coaching carousel in the NHL.3:00 - Stamkos’ future in TB14:00 - Frank’s Top 50 Free Agents16:00 - The Oilers blueline24:00 - The remaining first-round series27:35 - Canucks vs Predators31:30 - What will the Kings do?38:00 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 296Western Conference First-Round Playoff Preview

It took until the final day of the regular season, but the four Western Conference playoff series are finally locked in and with that, we are ready to go for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Jason and Frank broke down every series in today’s playoff preview podcast. To kick things off, they went through the surprising results from last night that saw the Vegas Golden Knights lose to the Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks, meaning the Golden Knights are now on a flight to Dallas and the Kings are going back to Edmonton for a third straight first-round matchup. They also broke down the upcoming heavyweight tilt between the Colorado Avalanche, who have stumbled their way into the playoffs, and the Winnipeg Jets, whose strong finish gave them home-ice advantage. The Canucks are also back in the playoffs for the first time since the bubble season and despite the fact that they held the top spot in the Pacific Division for the entire season, there are still people doubting them heading into their series against the Predators. Ep 294The Final Week of the Regular Season

With just a few days remaining in the 2023-24 regular season, Frank and Jason broke down everything that’s still on the line as things come to a close. Obviously, there are still two playoff spots up for grabs in the Eastern Conference as the Penguins, Capitals, Islanders, and Red Wings all still have hope. The guys ranked who they think will get the final two spots in the big dance and also talked about what else is on the line this week. There is also a wild tie-breaker scenario brewing that could result in things going down to the sixth tie-breaker. Frank explained all of that. They also hit on Jared Bednar calling out Alexandar Georgiev just days before the playoffs begin. Should the Avs be worried about their current level of play? They’re going to be going up against the red-hot Winnipeg Jets in the first-round of the playoffs. There was a lot of news in the prospect world this week as multiple big name players signed their entry-level deals after the end of the NCAA season, which resulted with Denver winning the National Championship. The guys talked about Cutter Gauthier’s comments before the game, which did not age well.Tyler also swung by with a new edition of Buy or Sell, delivered by DoorDash. They wrapped up the show with a quick update on the Arizona Coyotes relocation situation, which Frank is now calling a win for everybody involved. He explained that and gave the latest on when we’ll have some finalized news.1:00 - What’s on the line this week?4:45 - Bednar calls out Georgiev7:45 - Win and you’re in?22:25 - Gauthier signs with the Ducks25:20 - Womens Worlds31:20 - Buy or Sell (Matthews & Seeding Races)45:30 - Coyotes updateWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 293The Latest on Relocation

It’s been a big 24 hours around the NHL as it sounds more and more like the Arizona Coyotes are going to be relocating to Salt Lake City, Utah. Frank has been all over this news, breaking the news yesterday. He and Jason kicked off the podcast by talking about how it got to this point between the league and the Coyotes and also what the next steps could potentially be in this process.Potential Utah Owner Ryan Smith has a home ready for the team to potentially play in. It’s not a perfect fit though and Frank outlined why the league isn’t worried about the arena situation in Salt Lake City. One angle of this involves Coyotes Owner Alex Meruelo potentially winning the upcoming land auction and getting his new arena project going. In that case, there is a chance that the league still one day grant him an expansion franchise. Frank and Jason talked about just how far off expansion could potentially be.After going through the relocation news, the guys jumped back into what’s been going down on the ice as of late. The Eastern Conference playoff picture is about as clear as mud with the Penguins, Islanders, Red Wings, and Capitals all still alive and in the mix. They debated if anyone could jump ahead this weekend. They also looked at Auston Matthews’ chase for 70-goals and shot down any ideas of him magically becoming a Hart Trophy favourite if he hits the milestone.Tyler swung by for a new edition of Fill in the Blank delivered by DoorDash.1:05 - The latest on relocation10:00 - How did this come together?13:50 - How far off is expansion?22:50 - Eastern Conference playoff race25:45 - Matthews & the Hart TrophyWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 292The Penguins & Islanders have revived their seasons

With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, the playoff race in the Eastern Conference is just getting spicier and spicier. The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders have gone from afterthoughts to squarely in the thick of things with their recent run.Can either team finish the job and get into the big dance? Frank and Jason started the show off by talking about what’s going on when it comes to the final two playoff spots that are up for grabs. From there, they continued their post-mortem series as they look at teams that have been officially eliminated from the playoffs. They started today with the Seattle Kraken, who came back down to earth after winning a playoff round last season. Can this team turn things around next season? Or do the Kraken need to take a longer-term approach to things? They then went out East and talked about the Ottawa Senators, who Frank says has the most disappointing season out of any team in the league. The two most talked about moments from their season are two empty-net plays and now the question becomes: can this Senators core actually win? New GM Steve Staois has a lot of big decisions to make in his first offseason at the helm. They wrapped it up by talking about the Calgary Flames. Craig Conroy sold off a lot of important pieces throughout this season and now, he has to decide whether or not to embark on a long rebuild or quickly try to re-tool on the fly.Tyler also swung by for a new edition of Buy or Sell, delivered by DoorDash.1:10 - The Eastern Playoff Race10:15 - The state of the Flyers17:50 - The summer in Seattle26:30  - The Senators miss again39:05 - The Calgary Flames44:05 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 291The Brawl at MSG & The Penguins Playoff Hopes

Things got spicy last night at Madison Square Garden as the Rangers and Devils had an old-school brawl off the opening faceoff. It grabbed the attention of the entire sporting world and to begin today’s podcast, Jason and Frank talked about what went down and the reaction to it.From there, they got into the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Pittsburgh Penguins have suddenly worked themselves right back into the fight as almost everyone else in the race continues to play mediocre hockey. The guys talked about how the Pens could approach their big game tonight against the Capitals. The playoff races haven’t exactly been electric this season and that raises the question of whether or not the NHL should add a play-in round similar to what the NBA does. Frank pushed for it and explained the potential benefits while Gregor pushed back on the idea. They then debated who the five biggest Cup Contenders are heading into the final few weeks of the regular season. Spoiler: the Dallas Stars got a lot of love from the guys.Tyler then swung by for a new edition of Fill in the Blank delivered by DoorDash. Ep 290Connor McDavid’s Heater & The Art Ross Race

The calendar has turned to April and that means we will get Stanley Cup Playoff action this month. There are less than three weeks remaining in the regular season and while the playoff races aren’t as spicy as maybe fans would have liked, there is a fascinating race brewing for the Art Ross Trophy.Connor McDavid has racked up 25 points in his last ten games and is now is right behind both Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov and he has games in hand. Jason and Frank started today’s pod by talking about the run that McDavid has been on and who they like in the Art Ross race. That also led to some talk about the Hart Trophy. From there, Frank shared some information on the NCAA Frozen Four tournament. There are some players who’ve been eliminated that are now eligible to sign with NHL teams but a handful of the more big-name prospects have advanced in the tournament and likely won’t be turning pro this season. The guys then continued their post-mortem series by going in-depth on a handful of rebuilding teams. The San Jose Sharks have finally fully committed to their rebuild, but how long will it take for them to become relevant again? They also took a look at the Chicago Blackhawks and the Arizona Coyotes.Tyler also popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash.8:20 - Playoff race update10:10 - Art Ross race23:50 - Frozen Four31:10 - The San Jose Sharks tear down37:20 - Chicago Blackhawks post mortem45:10 - The future of the CoyotesWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 289Looking Ahead For The NHL’s Basement Dwellers

Frank and Jason are back with another fresh edition of The DFO Rundown. They kicked off today’s show by talking about the comments that were made about Oilers forward Zach Hyman earlier this week and the reaction to it. Hyman responded about as well as he could have, scoring the OT Winner in the Oilers' win over the Jets on Tuesday. From there, they decided to take a break from all the talk about the playoff races and instead decided to go to the bottom of the NHL standings and dug into the futures of some of the league's bottom feeders. They started with the Anaheim Ducks. They missed the playoffs again, but was this season a step forward? Frank and Jason debated that. They then dug into the tire-fire that was the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are heading into the summer in need of some big move but still need to name a General Manager.Tyler then swung by for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. He asked the guys about which team regrets their deadline decisions the most and he got them to pick their World Series winners on Opening Day.1:35 - Hyman hits 51 goals (and other things)11:55 - Frank’s Game 82 memories14:35 - Post-Mortems - Anaheim Ducks20:35 - The Columbus Blue Jackets30:27 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 288Two New Members of the 50-Goal Club

As we continue to creep closer to the end of the regular season, there are plenty of storylines emerging. Frank and Jason started the show by talking about the two newest members of the 50-goal club: Sam Reinhart and Zach Hyman. They broke down each players path to the milestone and talked about the narrative that Hymans success is only due to playing with Connor McDavid. From there, they quickly hit on some seeding races in both the East and West. The Predators just keep on rolling and have no more or less locked themselves into the top wild-card spot in the West. Out East, the Capitals are now in the drivers seat when it comes to the final playoff spot. They then got into the Hart Trophy debate. Nathan MacKinnon is the odds on favourite right now but has he locked up the award? The guys debated that and talked about whether or not Kucherov or McDavid have a realistic shot at winning the award.Frank then threw out the idea of a comeback player of the year award and who would win that hypothetical award. Jason also wondered about a breakout player of the year award.Tyler then swung by for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. Ep 287What Was & Wasn't Said At The GM Meetings

Frank is back from covering the NHL GM Meetings in Florida and today on the pod, he and Gregor kicked things off by recapping what the league decided to change within the game. That led to a big conversation about what the league’s General Managers didn’t discuss over the last few days and that sparked a big rant from Gregor about what’s wrong with the NHL’s playoff format. They also hit on the future of emergency goalies and the idea of making it easier for teams to carry a third goalie so we don’t get another ‘E-Bug’ situation. Frank outlined why this is an important issue and he explained a few potential solutions to the problem. The status of the Arizona Coyotes was also brought up. The league had a chance to come out and confirm that the Coyotes would be staying at Mullett Arena and they didn’t do that. Frank explained that point a little bit and explained the timeline that the Coyotes are currently facing.Frank and Jason also talked about the league’s vague comments about CTE in the days following Chris Simon’s passing.Tyler swung by with a fresh edition of Fill in the Blank where he got the guys take on Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella healthy scratching Captain Sean Couturier, the state of the Montreal Canadiens, and a potential first-round playoff matchup in the Western Conference.0:55 - GM Meetings recap & Gregor’s rant11:10 - The future of the E-Bug20:10 - Will the Coyotes stay?29:40 - Chris Simon’s passing43:40 - Fill in the Blank Want to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 286The Eastern Conference Pillow Fight

After a quick one-week hiatus, Jason and Frank are back with another edition of podcast. They started the show today by digging into the Eastern Conference playoff race, which is still very much up for grabs as we reach the final month of the regular season. The Red Wings have gone cold, the Capitals are somehow right back in the mix, and the Islanders have struggled to stay consistent. The guys debated which of those three has the best shot to pull away in the race. They also looked at whether or not one of the Penguins, Devils or Sabres have a shot at getting back into the thick of it. Out West, the eight playoff teams appear locked in. The conversation there is all about seeding. The Golden Knights are still a wild card team, that could change. The Canucks are the one seed in the Pacific, but the Oilers are pushing. In the Central, the Stars, Avalanche, and Jets are in an absolute dog fight for the division title.Tyler also popped in with a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash.1:30 - Eastern Conference playoff race10:30 - The Preds hot streak12:20 - Western Conference power rankings15:20 - Concerns about Dallas?24:00 - The Penguins & Sharks29:00 - Buy or Sell44:30 - Hart Trophy Race49:10 - GM Meetings updateWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 285The Trade Deadline Recap Show

Trade season has come and gone with a handful of surprising moves coming down on deadline day. Jason and Frank recapped everything we saw over the last few weeks in a brand new edition of the podcast, with a bit of a twist.Tyler popped in early and today’s episode featured extended versions of both Fill in the Blank and Buy or Sell as Tyler ran the guys through the deadline gauntlet and got their thoughts on almost all the moves that went down and even a few that got close but ultimately didn’t come to fruition. They started with the big stunner: Tomas Hertl going to the Vegas Golden Knights. Did the Sharks get enough? How does this impact the long-term plans that the Golden Knights have? The guys have their thoughts. They also talked about which fan bases deserve to be the most disappointed with their teams moves, or lack of moves, over the last month. They also hit on the Hurricanes winning the Jake Guentzel sweepstakes, the Kuznetsov addition, and Linus Ullmark’s future with the Boston Bruins. To wrap up the show, they looked at the current Stanley Cup odds on Betano and each gave a team that they think is too high and a team that is too low.2:30 - Hertl to VGK10:00 - What’s next in San Jose?16:20 - Most surprising deadline move21:20 - The Predators deadline24:40 - The names that didn’t move28:30 - The most disappointed fan bases31:20 - Why didn’t the Rangers add more?33:10 - Guentzel goes to the Canes38:30 - Can Kuznetsov bounceback?44:35 - The Leafs’ lack of moves46:15 - Ullmark stays in Boston50:35 - Devils add goaltending53:25 - Which team improved their Stanley Cup odds?1:01:55 - Which division has the best shot at The Cup?1:10:00 - The Senators Head Coaching jobWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? They wrapped up with some talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have been quiet so far.Out in the Central Division, there are a handful of sellers. Ep 283Deadline Week Begins

We are less than a week away from the NHL Trade Deadline and action is starting to pick up. We had some significant news over the weekend with Elias Pettersson officially signing his extension with the Vancouver Canucks and the Washington Capitals waiving Evgeny Kuznetsov. Frank and Jason broke down those two stories and then got into what could be going down this week. There are still some teams who have some tough decisions to make this week. The New Jersey Devils are on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff race in the Eastern Conference, the Penguins are continuing to sputter along, and the Flames have to make a decision on Jacob Markstrom. There is a lot going on around the league right now. They also talked about a handful of teams in the Western Conference that are expected to make big moves at some point before Friday at 3pm ET. The Oilers are looking for forward help, the Avalanche are looking at options between the pipes, and the Golden Knights seem motivated to spend their LTIR pool. The guys wrapped up with a new edition of Fill in the Blank where they looked at who could be the biggest sellers and who’s the biggest lock to move their first-round pick.3:00 - Tyler Toffoli’s availability8:45 - Penguins Apology to Crosby12:40 - Evgeny Kuznetzov Clears Waivers18:45 - Rebuilding Washington (Getting Younger)25:00 - Oilers, Avs, Golden Knights - No Moves Yet27:15 - Knights Next Move (Buchnevich?)31:00 - Oilers Next Moves37:22- Avs Have Been Quiet - (Jake Allen?)40:50 - Elias Pettersson Contract44:50 - Fill in the Blank - DoorDash45:15 - Biggest Lock to trade their 1st (Knights/Avs)46:35 - Biggest Seller (Washington/Penguins/Wild/Coyotes)49:00 - Jacob Markstrom Comments54:20 - Flyers Shouldn't Sell (Seeler, Walker)58:50 - Panthers (Hanifin?)1:00:45 - Predators Win Streak (Barrie to Flames?)1:03:00 - OutroWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 282Pettersson’s Extension & Tanev’s Moving To Dallas

We finally got news! It was a wild Wednesday night in the NHL with two big stories breaking within minutes of each other. First, Frank broke the news that the Vancouver Canucks and Elias Pettersson are closing in on a fresh long-term extension that will keep the Swedish star in Vancouver through the bulk of his career.Frank talked about the expected value of the deal and why getting this done now is so significant for both the Canucks and Pettersson. We also got another move involving one of Frank’s top trade targets as the Calgary Flames moved veteran defenseman Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars for a handful of draft picks and a prospect. Jason and Frank talked about this deal from both sides, which led to some talk about the Stars being one of the most complete teams in the NHL. Gregor thinks they might have the best blueline in the NHL.Frank also talked about the future of Noah Hanifin as the Flames sell-off continues. Who’s in the market? What could the cost be? He answered those questions. They also talked about the LA Kings deadline plans, speculated about what the Golden Knights could get up to, and Gregor chimed in on a couple of teams in the Eastern playoff race.Tyler also swung by for a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. Ep 281The Market for Jake Guentzel & the Isles big decision

We are less than two weeks away from the NHL trade deadline and the market is still remarkably quiet. Jason and Frank started with that today on a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. The first half of today’s pod was straight trade talk, starting with a big conversation about the New York Islanders. They’re continuing to slip in the Eastern Conference playoff race and Gregor says they should be looking to sell off some pieces. The guys had a conversation about which pieces they could move and what their future could look like. From there, they got into the market for Jake Guentzel and which teams are legitimately in the mix for a player whose spent the bulk of his career riding shotgun with Sidney Crosby. They also talked a little bit about what the return could be.Another top name on the market is Chris Tanev. Jason and Frank each had different ideas of where he could land including the Jets, Stars and Lightning. They also quickly hit on his teammate Noah Hanifin, who had a big weekend.Frank also had a quick thought on what’s going on between Elias Pettersson and the Canucks. In a new edition of Fill in the Blank, Tyler asked the guys about a few teams playoff chances and also, the ceiling for Nikita Kucherov when it comes to his point production.3:50 - Could the Isles sell?10:20 -The market for Guentzel18:55 - Best fits for Guentzel25:00 - When will CGY move Tanev?30:35 - Kane’s return to CHI35:10 - Pettersson & the Canucks40:15 - Fill in the Blank50:15 - Rempe’s first weekWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 280Why is the trade market so quiet?

Frank and Jason are back with another fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as they sunk their teeth into the remarkably quiet trade market in the NHL.The buyers and sellers are beginning to become more clear, but yet there isn’t anything happening in terms of actual moves. Frank explained why there hasn’t been a lot of activity and Gregor talked about a few teams that he thinks are destined to be sellers. That eventually got them onto the topic of the Vegas Golden Knights and their run of injuries. Could Eichel or Stone actually be out for the year? Are the Golden Knights just playing salary cap games once again? Ep 278The Blue Jackets Have Fired Jarmo Kekalainen

Today’s podcast started off as normal as any other. Jason and Frank talked about Jake Guentzal leaving last nights loss with an upper-body injury. The Penguins still haven’t gained any sort of momentum this season and the questions about them selling at the deadline remain. The other Pennsylvania team just keeps on humming. Everyone is waiting for the the Flyers to fall off and instead, they’re staying in the race. Will it get to a point where the Flyers won’t want to sell? The guys debated that.Right around the 15 minute mark we got breaking news live on the podcast as the Columbus Blue Jackets fired long-time General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen. The guys reacted to that news live on the podcast. Frank summed it up as “one bad decision after another” adding that it’s “mind-blowing” that he kept his job for eleven years. From there, they talked about Phil Kessel’s chances of cracking the Vancouver Canucks. The veteran forward is skating at the clubs AHL facilities in hopes of earning a spot with the big club. Could he actually make an impact? They also talked about their go-to Super Bowl spreads. They eventually did get into the hockey talk as they broke down the Morgan Rielly cross-check on Ridley Greig. The Kings also played their first game under new Head Coach Jim Hiller and came away with a big victory. Ep 276One Month Until The Deadline

We are officially one month away from the NHL trade deadline and that means our very own Frank Seravalli has updated his Trade Targets list. That’s where the guys kicked things off on today’s episode of the podcast. The two remaining Calgary Flames have moved right up to #1 and #2 on the board as Frank expects both Noah Hanifin and Chris Tanev to be moved before March 8th. He explained that and talked about the markets for those two defensemen. From there, they went out to the Eastern Conference where a handful of teams have very interesting decisions to make. Pittsburgh forward Jake Guentzal sits at #30 on the board and it’s because the Penguins haven’t decided to make him available yet. Should they? Frank and Jason debated it. They also talked about what teams like the New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning could do in the next few weeks. There are two goalies in the top ten of Frank’s list as well. Where could names like Marc-Andre Fleury and Jake Allen end up? The guys gave their thoughts.Tyler then swung by with a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Brendan Dillon suspension and how many more first-round picks we could see get moved between now and the deadline.1:30 - Flames deadline plans9:05 - Guentzal & the Penguins16:00 - What will the Devils & Lightning do?26:10 - The goalie market37:25 - Coyotes ownership41:10 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 275Recapping a Wild All-Star Week

The NHL All-Star weekend is usually a quiet time where the league is focused more on taking time off or showing their sponsors a good time than they are on making news happen. Well, that was not the case this weekend. We had two big trades, a coach firing, and some juicy press conferences from both Commissioner Gary Bettman and Marty Walsh from the NHLPA.Walsh blasted the Arizona Coyotes on a handful of issues and that’s led to even more speculation about the future of the Coyotes in the desert. Frank outlined two potential scenarios that he could see play out over the next six months.Bettman unveiled the next plans for the NHL when it comes to international hockey. Frank and Jason gave their thoughts on the Four Nations Face-Off and the plans for the world’s best players to return to the Olympics in 2026.They also hit on the Todd McLellan firing in Los Angeles before getting to Tyler with a new edition of Buy or Sell where he got the guys takes on the Lindholm trade and the Jets adding Sean Monahan. They wrapped up the show with some talk about Frank’s viral moment from the weekend. Ep 274The Blue Jackets are a mess

This season has not gone the way that the Columbus Blue Jackets envisioned. They spent big in the offseason, hired Mike Babcock and looked like a team with real playoff aspirations. Well, things got off the rails very early and the latest chapter involves one of their top prospects, David Jiricek, who sounded off about his lack of playing time in the NHL. Patrik Laine also announced he is stepping away from the team for mental health reasons. Frank and Jason started things off by talking about the Jiricek situation before getting into Laine. Frank talked about the uptick in players taking mental health leaves. From there, the guys got into the Brendan Gallagher suspension. Gregor said it should have been closer to ten games while Frank thinks this whole situation reeks of the Department of Player Safety wanting to avoid a potential appeal from the player. The New York Rangers were dealt a big blow over the weekend as they announced that Filip Chytil will miss the remainder of the season with an upper-body injury. That creates a big hole in their lineup that they’ll need to fill ahead of the deadline. Frank thinks they could add two centres before March 8th.They also hit on the playoff races in each the East and West before getting to Tyler with a new edition of Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about the Art Ross race, the Blues heater, and who’s the comeback player of the year.1:22 - Jiricek speaks out10:20 - Laine steps away20:50 - Gallagher suspension24:05 - Rangers deadline plans26:10 - Playoff racesWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 273The Latest on the Hockey Canada Investigation

There has been a lot of news around the hockey world this week but no story is bigger than the sexual assault case connected to the 2018 Team Canada World Junior Team. We finally got news this week from the London, Ontario Police and it came with a handful of NHLers taking leaves of absence. Frank and Jason began today’s podcast by talking about what’s going on and where things go from here. The NHL did their best to bury the story by having Ryan Smith, the Owner of the Utah Jazz, release a statement that he is interested in bringing NHL hockey to Salt Lake City, Utah. Frank shared his disgust with the tactic and then gave some insight into the chances of Smith getting his wish and bringing a team to the state of Utah. Hint: he doesn’t think it will come via expansion. They then got into some hockey talk. Nathan MacKinnon racked up four goals last night and continued his MVP-calibre season. Is he the clear-cut favourite for the Hart? The guys debated. They also talked about the Oilers winning streak, Connor McDavid’s season, and the struggling LA Kings before bringing in Tyler for a new edition of Buy or Sell. Ep 271Are the Flames open for business?

Things are not going well right now for the Toronto Maple Leafs and that’s exactly where Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli began today’s podcast. Sheldon Keefe made some interesting comments the other day after the Leaf’s suffered their fourth consecutive loss and that led to the guys breaking down whether or not the Leafs are actually just a few moves away from being a true Stanley Cup contender or if this just won’t be their year. The Leafs will have a chance to bounceback tonight as they face the Calgary Flames, who are another team in an interesting spot. Frank is in Calgary right now and broke down why he believes that despite their recent winning streak, Flames GM Craig Conroy is still open for business. That led to some debate about the kind of impact that Elias Lindholm will have on a contender.Sticking with Canadian teams, Jason wondered about Jacob Chychrun’s future with the Ottawa Senators. There are some rumblings that he could be available and considering his cap hit and term, Frank says he would have value and that the Senators are open to just about anything. They also spent some time talking about the Colorado Avalanche and what they could be looking to add ahead of the trade deadline. Frank talked with their GM recently on a new episode of Frankly Speaking and brought up their need for a goaltender while Gregor thinks that they need to add something to their blueline.Tyler swung by with a new edition of Buy or Sell delivered by DoorDash. Ep 270What are the Leafs going to do in net?

The guys are back for a Monday edition of the podcast. Jason and Frank started the show with a little bit of chatter about the crazy weather we’ve been getting across both Canada and the USA. They also talked a little bit about the NFL weekend courtesy of our friends at Betano. From there, they talked about a pair of struggling teams in the Pacific Division. While the Oilers and Kraken have been red-hot, the Kings and Golden Knights have both continued to struggle along. They guys debated which one of those two teams should be more concerned with their recent play. They then went out East and talked about the tumultuous weekend by the Toronto Maple Leafs. They had a couple of ugly losses over the last few days, which has led to Sheldon Keefe throwing his lines to a blender. They also have some decisions to make when it comes to their goaltending, which Jason and Frank talked about. On Friday, we got news that the Chicago Blackhawks had signed Nick Foligno to a two-year deal worth a total of $9 million. The Toronto Maple Leafs have locked up star winger William Nylander, signing him to an eight-year deal that will go down as one of the richest contracts in the entire league. Frank and Jason started today’s podcast by breaking down that signing. Is it too much money? Does it hurt the Leafs chances to win a Stanley Cup? The guys debated those questions and more. That bled into a conversation about how many true Stanley Cup contenders there are in the league. Frank’s list has gotten smaller during the course of the season and he explained some of his omissions while Gregor pushed back on Frank not including the likes of the Jets, Leafs, and Oilers.Tyler popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank, where he talked to the guys about the Connor Bedard injury and the Calder Trophy race. They wrapped up the pod with some talk about Lukle Hughes strong rookie season and Max Pacioretty’s return to the Capitals lineup.2:00 - Nylander extension14:20 - What’s next for the Leafs?18:30 - True Stanley Cup Contenders33:05 - Fill in the Blank54:00 - Pacioretty’s returnWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 267Appreciating Greatness

Today’s podcast started off with a lot of talk about one of the games greats and a pair of players who are certainly trending in that direction. Alex Ovechkin is slowly starting to find his goal scoring groove. Can he still hit 30-goals this season? Frank and Jason debated that and talked about his chase to become the leagues all-time leader in goals. From there, they talked about Connor McDavid’s latest accomplishment, hitting the 900 point mark. McDavid hit the milestone in the fifth least amount of games played in league history. This led to some talk about Wayne Gretzky and adjusting for eras. They then got to Auston Matthews, who is fresh off scoring his 30th goal of the season in just his 35th game of the season. Most people never thought we’d see a player score 50 goals in 50 games again, but is there a legitimate chance that Matthews can do it? It might be a stretch, but the guys talked about his incredible pace. From there, Frank explained why the New York Rangers deserve to be the Stanley Cup favourites right now. Nathan MacKinnon’s Hart Case & the NHL’s E-Bug Problem

A wild weekend of hockey in the NHL gave Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli a lot to chew on today’s on the DFO Rundown. To kick things off, they started by talking about Nathan MacKinnon’s heater. He’s been lights out this season but has really hit another level over the last ten days. He’s looking like a player that will be a Hart Trophy finalist this season and that led to some debate about who else is putting together a strong MVP case at the one-third mark of the season.Frank then provided an update on the Juuso Valimaki situation, which caught the eye of the NHLPA over the weekend. The guys also talked about how the league needs to find a solution to their E-Bug problem. In their first meeting since Kyle Dubas left the organization over the summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs thumped the Pittsburgh Penguins. Things are looking dire in Pittsburgh and that led Jason and Frank to talk about whether or not Dubas needs to consider selling off this season and resetting their roster, which could lead to some really tough decisions.Tyler swung by for a new edition of Buy or Sell, where he talked to the guys about the goalie market, the Winnipeg Jets plans for the future, and the odds that one of the Devils or Hurricanes miss the playoffs. They wrapped up the show by talking about the goalie market and who could be looking to make a splash by beefing up their crease.1:45 - Nathan MacKinnon’s Hart case3:40 - Hart Trophy race10:50 - Valimaki situation18:05 - NHL E-Bug’s26:30 - Penguins struggles36:50 - Buy or Sell45:35 - Raanta & the Canes crease53:20 - Market for Vejmelka58:40 - Senators mindsetWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Ep 262What’s Next in St. Louis?

We have our third coaching change of the year as the St. Louis Blues have moved on from the Head Coach that led them to their first ever Stanley Cup in 2019. Craig Berube is out behind the bench, even though the team is just a few points out of a playoff spot.Jason and Frank started off the podcast by breaking down why the move was made and debated whether or not this Blues team is good enough to get into the playoffs. That also led into a bigger conversation about whether or not this team is on the path to becoming a Cup contender or if a bigger rebuild is needed. From there, they got into the big changes coming to the NHL Skills Competition. There will be a cool $1 million up for grabs and only 12 players will compete in the competition. Will this make the skills competition actually watchable?
