INTERVIEW | Fe Bencosme on Why ‘Race Does Not Exist’
“Strictly speaking, race does not exist,” Fe Bencosme says. Bencosme, author of the new book “You Are Not Your Race: Embracing Our Shared Humanity in a Chaotic Age,” says she knows her writings on race will offend people, but the reality is “there's no black race, there's no white race, there's no yellow or red race. These are ideas that were literally created by some taxonomist a very long time ago.” Bencosme joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to share her own story of struggling with the topic of race, and to explain why she thinks Americans have become so obsessed with it. INTERVIEW | The Great Reset, Explained by Michael Walsh
Just a few months after the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world and prompted governments to impose draconian lockdowns, a group of global elites introduced what is known as the Global Reset. Championed by the World Economic Forum—host of the posh Davos, Switzerland, meeting for the jet-setting crowd—ideas connected to the Great Reset were embraced by the likes of President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and King Charles III. “We need nothing short of a paradigm shift, one that inspires action at revolutionary levels and pace,” then-Prince Charles said in a video launching the project in June 2020. “We simply cannot waste any more time—the only limit is our willingness to act, and the time to act is now.” What exactly is the Great Reset? And how would it radically transform our civilization as we know it? Michael Walsh, editor of “Against the Great Reset: Eighteen Theses Contra the New World Order,” answers those questions and more. Walsh, a novelist, author, longtime contributor to Time, and founding editor of Breitbart, assembled an all-star lineup of authors to produce the book. INTERVIEW | Why New GDP Report Showing Economic Growth Is Misleading
The U.S. economy grew by 2.6% in the third quarter of 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reportreleased Thursday. Compared with the gross domestic product figure from the second quarter, which showed the economy shrunk 0.6%, that appears to be solid economic growth. Not quite—according to E.J. Antoni, a research fellow in regional economics in the Center for Data Analysis at The Heritage Foundation. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) "Usually, when we talk about these numbers, we always think a growing GDP means a growing economy, and that's good for people, but this is one of those instances where that's not really the case," Antoni says. Antoni offered his predictions for future GDP reports. "As a former bartender, I'll use a bit of an alcohol analogy here. This last report—the third-quarter report, that is—I think was last call. So, if you want to judge the party based on alcohol consumption, things are looking great. That's a high number, " he says. "But viewed in context, the party's over. And I think from here on out, we go back to negative numbers," he added. Antoni joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss the GDP further, as well as President Joe Biden's false claim that he won congressional passage of his student-loan forgiveness plan, and how the economy is affecting Americans. INTERVIEW | Ryan Michler on 'How a Man Establishes Influence, Credibility, and Authority'
When does a male quit being a boy and enter manhood? The answer has little to do with his age, Ryan Michler says. Michler, the host of the “Order of Man” podcast and author of the new book “The Masculinity Manifesto: How a Man Establishes Influence, Credibility, and Authority,” has a simple definition for when a boy becomes a man. “A boy consumes more than he produces, and a man produces more than he consumes,” he says. “When you are producing more than you consume—meaning, you're able to give value to the people and others around you—you are acting like a man. That's manly behavior,” the author says, adding, “We would call that individual a man.” Michler joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss his new book and how males can become men of influence as fathers, husbands, and leaders within their workplace and community. INTERVIEW | Here’s Why Xi Jinping Is Considered the ‘Most Powerful Chinese Dictator Since Mao’
The 20th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party wrapped up its weeklong, twice-a-decade meeting over the weekend with Chinese President Xi Jinping securing his third five-year term. "The third term was not a surprise at all [but] the extent to which he consolidated his power was," Michael Cunningham, a research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, says of Xi's grip on the Chinese Communist Party. (The Daily Signal is Heritage’s multimedia news organization.) Xi "managed to get to force people to retire prematurely who were not his proteges and to replace them with proteges, his own handpicked people," Cunningham says. "So now he controls essentially the entire Politburo Standing Committee. There are very few checks on his power now." Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., warned on "Fox News Sunday" that Xi "has become the most powerful Chinese dictator since Mao." "The amount of power consolidation that [Xi] accomplished this time, it really shows that ... there are very few checks to his power now," Cunningham says, adding: It's hard to say for sure what extent that power will be until we see it in action, but just based on the past 10 years, we've seen that even without controlling the entire leadership lineup as he does now, he managed to push through his preferred policies.Cunningham joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss what the U.S. should expect during Xi's third term, how Taiwan will be affected, and the state of U.S.-China relations. INTERVIEW | Nile Gardiner on Why Liz Truss Failed as Prime Minister of UK
Liz Truss resigned as prime minister of Great Britain on Thursday after just 45 days on the job. It’s possible that her predecessor and fellow Conservative Party member, Boris Johnson, will seize upon the moment and become prime minister of the United Kingdom again, just months after he resigned from the position, according to The Heritage Foundation's Nile Gardiner. (The Daily Signal is the news outlet of The Heritage Foundation.) "There's a lot of speculation that Boris Johnson ... is going to run as a candidate in the Conservative Party leadership race," says Gardiner, a former aide to then-British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and now director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at Heritage. "Having met Boris on many, many occasions and hosted him here at Heritage, I think that Boris, if he decides to run, would be a very, very powerful candidate." Truss will remain prime minister until a successor is named. Gardiner joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss why Truss failed, the lessons that can be learned from her short tenure, and what is next for Great Britain. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast. INTERVIEW | America’s Military Strength Is Declining. Here’s How to Fix It
The U.S. military not only is weak overall but “at growing risk of not being able to meet the demands of defending America’s vital national interests,” according to a new report from The Heritage Foundation. On Tuesday, Heritage released its 2023 Index of U.S. Military Strength, a document of nearly 600 pages that assesses the strength of America’s armed forces. “In our index, we score or measure the status of American military power in the year that’s just passed. Over years, you can start to see trends and you can see the implications for the United States, and our foreign policy, and economic health, and those sorts of things,” says Dakota Wood, a senior research fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Center for National Defense. (The Daily Signal is Heritage’s multimedia news organization.) “I think it’s the easiest way to think about it, is how did the Army do? The Navy, the Air Force, and [other] military services? And what was the nature of the world?” Wood, who served for over two decades as a Marine, says. Wood joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to break down the findings of the Index of U.S. Military Strength, how America’s military compares to that of China, and what he hopes Americans will take away from the report. INTERVIEW | 'Not Sure Taiwan's Going to Survive,' Defense Expert Warns of Xi's Push for 'Reunification'
Chinese President Xi Jinping renewed his calls for the "reunification" of China and Taiwan on Sunday during the opening session of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. "We will continue to strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and the utmost effort, but we will never promise to renounce the use of force, and we reserve the option of taking all measures necessary," Xi said. China is "determined to pursue reunification on a much faster timeline," U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday. "So, now it's sort of pretty clear that the Chinese are thinking seriously of making a move. So, why aren't we acting like it?" says Elbridge Colby, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for strategy and force development in the Defense Department. "Why aren't we acting on a national mobilization effort precisely to avoid a war? Because once we get into a war, it's definitely going to be far more expensive and costly in terms of lives and resources. And it may be too late if we wait that long," Colby says. Colby joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss Xi's comments, his recent article in Time magazine about why the U.S. should defend Taiwan, and what message could be sent if the U.S. is not able to successfully deter China from invading Taiwan. INTERVIEW | Neither Trick Nor Treat: What Parents Need to Know About ‘Rainbow Fentanyl’
The end of October is nearing, which means Halloween is just around the corner for many American kids. The holiday, known for trick or treating and consuming copious amounts of candy, is a bit spookier than normal this year: Parents now have to worry about the possibility of so-called rainbow fentanyl ending up in their kids’ candy bags. “Because this has been a relatively new phenomenon regarding the rainbow fentanyl and as Halloween is so close, parents need to be particularly concerned about what their children are ingesting for Halloween, because it has been found in Nerds candy packaging as well as Skittles,” says Lora Ries, director of The Heritage Foundation’s Border Security and Immigration Center. (The Daily Signal is Heritage’s multimedia news organization.) Fentanyl, a highly lethal synthetic opioid, has plagued communities throughout the United States. Just recently, roughly 300,000 “rainbow fentanyl” pills and more than 20 pounds of powdered fentanyl were found in the Bronx, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration reported. “[Parents] need to talk to their kids, as best they can age appropriately, to look out for rainbow-colored candy and two, parents themselves should be checking packaging,” Ries advises. Ries joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to talk about rainbow fentanyl, the ongoing crisis at the southern border, and what much of the media is missing. Hosted on Acast. INTERVIEW | Economist Explains Why 'Americans Are Being Absolutely Crushed Right Now'
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Thursday that the consumer price index rose 0.4% in September, showing that inflation remained at a near four-decade high of 8.2%. "Today’s report shows some progress in the fight against higher prices, even as we have more work to do. Inflation over the last three months has averaged 2%, at an annualized rate," President Joe Biden said in a statement. EJ Antoni, a research fellow for regional economics in the Center for Data Analysis at The Heritage Foundation, couldn't disagree more. "This is just the latest example of how Americans are being absolutely crushed right now by these higher prices. And it's not yachts and caviar that are driving these increases. It's necessities. It's the basic staples," Antoni says. "It's eggs, bread, milk. We're not talking about filet mignon here. We're talking about ground beef. And sadly, Americans are really paying the price for what has been going on the last two years in terms of the government just spending, borrowing, and printing trillions and trillions of dollars," says Antoni. Antoni joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to take a deeper dive into what the consumer price index means, how it compares to the producer price index, and even offer some spending advice ahead of the holiday season. INTERVIEW | Patty-Jane Geller on Russia and Threat of Nuclear War
Russia has threatened to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. How serious are those threats? Is the United States prepared to respond in the face of a nuclear attack? And what role do China and North Korea play in the discussion of nuclear war? “We've been hearing threat after threat, nuclear threat after nuclear threat against Ukraine,” Patty-Jane Geller, a Heritage Foundation senior policy analyst in nuclear deterrence and missile defense, says. “Is the threat likely? Probably not. I don't see how using a nuclear weapon against Ukraine would really help [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and help his war aims. The Ukrainians aren't going to surrender. But that doesn't mean that the chances that he'll use a nuclear weapon are zero, either," she says. INTERVIEW | Rancher Lauren Allen on Realities of Living on Southern Border
For Laura Allen and her family, illegal aliens crossing through their ranch is one of the “unique aspects” of living on the border, she said. The illegal aliens who cross through her ranch are “criminals, they've got criminal histories, they're not good people, and they are to be feared,” said Allen, who is not related to this reporter. The Allen ranch, located about 170 miles west of San Antonio in Val Verde County, has been in the family for over 100 years. “It was bought in 1920 by [my husband’s] great-grandfather and the family has been actively ranching it all that time,” Allen, 54, said. Allen, the former judge of Val Verde County, says that over the years, her husband's family has watched the situation with illegal immigration change. “Years ago, when my mother-in-law and my father-in-law built their home out here, which was in the ’50s, it was not uncommon for [illegal aliens] to come up to the house and be looking for work or looking for a meal or something like that,” Allen said. “Generally, they didn't have issues. They didn't have problems with anybody.” “Nowadays, the people that we see crossing, they don't want to come anywhere near us. They don't want to be seen, they don't want to be detected. We catch them on game cameras with big, huge backpacks that you could almost carry a person in, which we're sure are drugs,” she said, adding: “They come through in the cover of darkness and they want to get out undetected.” Allen joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to explain the realities of life on the southern border. American corporations are increasingly taking sides on political issues—and it seems they’re often embracing socialist ideas rather than the free market. That’s led former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and others to create the American Free Enterprise Chamber of Commerce. The group launched earlier this year to put the focus back on pro-business policies and limited government—rather than woke ideas pushed by activists on the left. INTERVIEW | Janine Marrone on Psychological Effects of Medication Abortions on Women
More than half of all abortions are medication, rather than surgical, abortions, according to research by the nonprofit group Support After Abortion. Medication abortions are performed with pills that women usually take at home. According to a new study by Support After Abortion, a Florida-based organization that provides post-abortion resources to women across America and the world, many women who have medication abortions struggle with their decision weeks—or even years—later. The suffering of abortion goes “beyond the physical suffering,” Janine Marrone, the group's founder, says, adding that many women experience “grief, regret, shame, [and] remorse” after having an abortion. INTERVIEW | CHANGED Movement on How Childhood Experiences Can Shape Gender Identity
Children now are inundated from a young age with messages about sexuality and gender, the founders of the CHANGED Movement say, but those messages aren't always positive. "What [society is] doing is not allowing children to really explore their sexuality before labeling them as LGBT or Q or anything else, and suggesting that at 7 or 8 you could know precisely something about your identity that really takes years to develop and understand," Elizabeth Woning, co-founder of the CHANGED Movement says. The CHANGED Movement, founded by Woning and Ken Williams, is a Christian organization based in California that works with people who are seeking to leave a homosexual lifestyle or who are struggling with gender identity or same-sex attraction. Woning and Williams recently released a new booklet called “Self-Discovery: How Childhood Shaped Our Sexual Identity.” The resource is intended to help the church, and society as a whole, understand how gender identity is often influenced by childhood experiences and beliefs. "In this booklet, what I sought to do was call into question why we're trying to push children into this LGBT identity, and then disclose or clarify what it looks like to rediscover your childhood so that you realize you weren't just born this way," Woning says. Woning and Williams join “The Daily Signal Podcast” to talk about their work, and how to help those struggling with gender identity. Enjoy the show! Hosted on Acast.
