Ep 83Food4Dog's YouTube Story Is The Best We've Ever Heard [Ep. 83]

*Spotify:* https://open.spotify.com/show/0Tl7tpMssVqt7O4qej8Ro0 *Apple:* https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-create-unknown/id1437172203 *Patreon* : https://patreon.com/thecreateunknown Join our *Discord* to talk with artists, creators, and fans of the finer things in online life: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw *Food4Dogs* is a UK-turned-New Zealand gaming YouTuber with absolutely nothing traditional about her story, and she’s got a lot of it to tell. We go back 30 years to Britta’s first forays into technology jobs and the internet, which makes her stand out among her peers in terms of her comfort and confidence with the medium. Sometimes friends and family don’t understand her love for gaming, but she keeps her head up. The Grand Dames -- her gaming friend-group with their own podcast -- understands, though. Then we hear the most incredible story we’ve ever witnessed on The Create Unknown -- Britta’s improbable journey from PS3 contest winner to wildly popular international gaming YouTuber. We’re not going to summarize the story here because honestly, you really need to hear her tell it. It’s amazing, and it’s a real-life example of the archetypal ‘Hero’s Journey.’ It’s easy to understand how gaming took root in Britta’s life as she explains how a new game carries excitement, wondering who she’ll meet, a bit of anxiety, and what she describes as “pure magic.” Combine that outlook with the wisdom she’s gained over several decades and gaming takes on a new meaning. And as she says, “If you want to see life in all of its glory… start a YouTube channel.” The Patrons have lots of questions for Britta, including what other content she watches in her limited time, whether she’s got any gaming limitations, her excitement over assistive technology, and why she really has no interest in shooting anyone in the head. We can’t reinforce enough that this is one of the best episodes we’ve recorded, if not the best. It’s one that we’ll be very, very proud of for as long as we do TCU. Thanks to Britta for spending a few hours with us, and thanks to everyone who showed up -- and stayed after! -- for this unparalleled event. *Food4Dogs* : youtube.com/Food4Dogs ( https://www.youtube.com/Food4Dogs ) 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. 💬 CONNECT WITH US: » Chat with us on DISCORD: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw » Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/createunknown » Follow us on INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/thecreateunknown » Follow us on FACEBOOK: http://facebook.com/thecreateunknown » View our website: https://thecreateunknown.com ( https://thecreateunknown.com/ ) Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 82Nathan Barnatt Talks Dad Secrets and Life as Other People [Ep. 82]

*Spotify:* https://open.spotify.com/show/0Tl7tpMssVqt7O4qej8Ro0 *Apple:* https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-create-unknown/id1437172203 *Patreon* : https://patreon.com/thecreateunknown Join our *Discord* to talk with artists, creators, and fans of the finer things in online life: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw *Nathan Barnatt’s* talent extends in so many different directions that it’s difficult to summarize. He’s a character comedian, he’s a physical comedian, he’s a dancer, a musician, a surreal storyteller… in 15+ years on YouTube and other media, he’s given us *Keith Apicary, Trale Lewous, and now Dad*. But if he had a blank check, he’d produce the film “Loss Vegas.” TV and movies are both expensive -- really expensive. Throughout the episode, Nathan details a host of projects over the years that have started and stopped, from Adult Swim pilots to pitches. He’s still waiting for the big one to pay off, but it’s better than being a gravedigger. There is an issue of having lots of projects and not enough time, as well as the expense of it all. This is just the way the business works, though, and Nathan and the rest of us have to deal with it. Then it’s time for a rundown on Dad, which we find out is *not* an ARG. Dad’s a robot who’s integrating other YouTubers in a long-running storyline, and that makes for a combination of compelling, dynamic, and surreal. Dad’s videos are absolutely peppered with easter eggs and puzzles for his audience to solve -- and sometimes that element of the videos takes longer to plan and execute than the actual content. But all of this is better than the old days of VCR and tape editing. And when Nathan tells us about his long history of injuries and near-arrests, it’s shocking that he’s lived long enough to experience modernity. The Patrons jump in to ask questions about separating himself from his characters, stunts and Gymnasty, and the process of acting first and then begging for forgiveness. Thanks to everyone who showed up to listen and lurk, and a special thanks to the Patrons who make this show happen every single week. *Nathan Barnatt* : https://www.youtube.com/user/nathanjbarnatt 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. Ep 81WildSpartanz Talks VR, Loot Boxes and Worm Jerky [Ep. 81]

*Spotify:* https://open.spotify.com/show/0Tl7tpMssVqt7O4qej8Ro0 *Apple:* https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-create-unknown/id1437172203 *Patreon* : https://patreon.com/thecreateunknown Join our *Discord* to talk with artists, creators, and fans of the finer things in online life: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw *WildSpartanz* is one of the few people who’ve purchased dried worm jerky, and that offers a bit of insight into his content. Ants farting, foamy poop, Amazon’s weirdest items… it’s a constant stream of strange and quirky with a vast rotating cast of characters to hang out with. Kevin’s buying coffee tables for $0.75, and we talk about what we could get on Wish for a total of $10. The internet is a weird place, and sometimes no one watches your videos. That’s where WildSpartanz comes in to watch YouTube videos with *zero* views. He’s a modern day explorer. WildSpartanz’s friends -- KingAni, who hopped into the live chat with us, Sumito, and a long list of others -- are an integral part of his content. But after they’ve all hung out, it’s time to subtitle videos manually. But hey, it only takes 8-10 hours per video. This leads us into a discussion about AI and VR, which have paradoxically come a very long way since the 1990’s, but somehow aren’t fully there yet. It’s on to social credit and how jaywalking will ruin your social credit score -- but WildSpartanz estimates his at 4 out of 10 anyway, so he doesn’t have a lot to lose. We spend a fair amount of time on digital gambling, namely CSGO skins and the lottery surrounding them. How valuable are they, and what can you actually do with them? It’s a little similar to BitCoin and anything else with a finite number and clear rarity. A chicken wing pillow in Spartanz’ coom cave? Is WildSpartanz’ content the newest extension of the decades-old America’s Funniest Home Videos? What’s up with the content house? Regrets in videos, the rise of YouTube clips and shorts, and of course, the fursona. It’s all here. Thanks to WildSpartanz for spending extra time with all of us in the after show, and thanks to all the Patrons who make this show happen every single week. *WildSpartanz* : https://www.youtube.com/user/WildSpartanz 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. Ep 80Sr. Pelo Talks Mokey, Spooky Month, and the Rhythm of Comedy [Ep. 80]

Pelo started off on DeviantArt and grew into YouTube, but really, he just does whatever he wants. Seriously. He wakes up and does whatever he wants to do. We learn the origins of his most recognizable character, Mokey, and his SNES origins. Once Pelo started making fun of Disney, Mokey’s universe expanded into a host of videos, half of which would get us demonetized if we described. Pelo blows things up, smacks tables, and mashes faces. He proudly makes his animations as dumb as he can possibly make them, and as he does it, he ramps up and amplifies the emotions to find the right balance of funny and annoying. Newgrounds is the ultimate bastion for tons of YouTubers, but Pelo… ehhhh. Not so much. But he does love Courage the Cowardly Dog. In TCU’s least surprising segment ever, Pelo absolutely nails Kevin’s brick-based creativity test, because Pelo. It’s actually a spinoff off the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, and it’s pretty good. We go into Spooky Month, Pump and Skid, and whether Pelo would ever make a network TV show. Then it gets a little Vsauce2-y with a discussion of neoteny and Disney’s rules for animating baby-like characters. But baby or not, Pelo just wants you to share, which is why he licenses everything under Creative Commons. We hit his game “Whatta Horrible Year,” his kerfuffle with Egoraptor, and some excellent Patron questions, including the technical details of recording crazy screams and hand injuries from slamming tables. Pelo’s fursona, well… Thanks to Sr. Pelo for giving us nearly 2 high-energy hours, and as always, thank you to all the Patrons who make this show possible and to the creepers and lurkers who joined us to listen live! He couldn’t fly, his real estate career didn’t take, so… he sold everything, bought a boat, and started posting his adventures to YouTube as " *Sailing Doodles.* " A few years later he’s getting 25 million views a month. It might look like a permanent vacation, but it’s really not. Bobby’s constantly working between sailing, boat maintenance, and YouTube, especially because he didn’t come into it all with formal training. His first journey from Texas to the Caribbean set in motion what would eventually become a well-scheduled, efficient media machine. And then… there’s the *disaster*. Rough seas and a series of problems combined to force a Coast Guard call and $100,000 of damage to his boat -- but Bobby’s incredible community rallied around him to help with a very unique pay-per-view fundraising effort. Bobby’s our first travel YouTuber, and the logistics of all that entails are pretty interesting. And yes, everyone around him thought he was crazy. Patrons jump in to ask about the tech process, how Bobby mails SD cards to his mom, how his dogs adapted to sailing life, and his secret love of Yacht Rock. Thanks to Bobby for grabbing a hotel to do this show and to everyone who showed up to listen to this extremely unique episode of TCU. Ep 78James Marriott Has No Left Brain [Ep. 78]

If a man can deconstruct the appeal and explain the criticism of beans on toast, he can accomplish anything. He’s had a consistent schedule of content that’s turned into a bit of a grind, especially with adding in the *EBoys* podcast and streaming. There’s a little specter of anxiety that hovers over him when he’s not releasing regularly. James napping through his 100k subs threshold reinforces that YouTubers really are just normal people regardless of their views and sub counts. Like iDubbbz and others we’ve talked to, his content is evolving. His commentary videos from years ago just aren’t the style he’s pursuing now, and he has no intention of returning to those roots -- especially with music on the horizon. He actually started YouTube as a music channel, and his first song “Slow Down” (produced by John Swan) was extremely popular. When his EP *“No Left Brain”* dropped a month ago, it resulted in a viral single called “Him” that has been used in thousands of TikToks and hit the UK viral charts. But what will keep James’ career going indefinitely is his honest, appropriate respect for his fans. In the era of parasocial relationships, James is doing it right. The Patrons jump in to ask a litany of questions about anime, the EBoys, and James’ fursona. Thanks to everyone who joined the Discord to listen in, and a special thanks to all the Patrons who make this show possible every week. 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. Ep 77Ted Nivison: Milk, Nut Butter, and a Chuckle Sandwich [Ep. 77]

Everything is on the table when we talk to Ted, so we start off with what is and isn’t cheese and the weird Willy Wonka-esque fruit that is the cashew apple. After a brief chat about the GameStop stonk rally, Ted talks *Chuckle Sandwich* , his brand new podcast with Jschlatt and Slimecicle. It’s a good way for Ted to post more often and more consistently, since his perfectionism affects his release timelines to a serious degree. Then Ted invents a product: Patented Ted Nivison Peanut Butter and Jelly Spheres, and honestly, it’s a viable idea that improves on the flaws of the Uncrustable. Beans on toast, military food, logistics of preparing meals for hundreds… it all comes up as Ted assures us that his parents never made him eat feces. And what keeps Ted’s creativity flowing? His daily morning walks in LA, which he now may very well call his “morning constitutional.” Kevin jumps in to correct the 10,000 step pseudoscience, and Ted compares his relaxed, gently active lifestyle in California to grinding nut butter in Ithaca. Ted whips out one of the greatest surprises in TCU history: way, way too many digits of Pi from memory. Ted’s actually academically trained in production cinema, and there were plans for a short film before the pandemic disrupted everything. He’s got some advice about script writing and feedback, and he has a live, on-show revelation about his own script. How do you make milk funny? How is nut butter entertaining? Is In-n-Out better than Five Guys? Is there a superior type of milk? The patrons throw Ted into a gauntlet of serious and frivolous questions. Thanks to everyone who showed up for the live recording, and a special thanks to the patrons who make this show possible every week. 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. Ep 76Drew Durnil: History YouTube's Accidental Academic [Ep. 76]

Pretty sure YouTube is blocked in his country of choice, but none of that will matter once we’re primitive again. Drew talks about the premise of his channel and why he didn’t think it would work out at the start. Between Civilization 5, Civilization 6, and Hearts of Iron 4, he’s become something of an expert on predictions. His entertaining academic approach is remarkable since he’s almost entirely an autodidact, having given college a few shots without it working out for him -- and now his content is appealing to a younger audience than before, making him an educational influencer. But… how does someone become Drew Durnil? That’s the real question, and Kevin’s fairly sure it isn’t through traditional teachers. And once the Durnil empire began to grow, Drew turned on his business and management acumen to train his friends to edit videos. Now he’s churning out several videos a week, all of which are as good or better as when he was editing. It’s an uncertain time for creators like Drew who by default have to discuss sensitive global events and prior conflicts, which can severely affect their ability to monetize. Having said that, his channel and its rabid community are both stronger than ever. We finish with Patron questions (and a few from Kevin and Matt) about the ideal resources of a fictional island, whether a modern US military unit could win against an ancient civilization, and more. Thanks to all the patrons and live viewers, including the dozens who came to The Create Unknown from Drew’s now-dead Discord server! 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. Ep 75Rusty Cage: Knives, Nooses, and Philosophy [Ep. 75]

He’s got to be the world’s expert on weirdos, so we start off by talking about whether anyone is actually normal. In terms of pushing up against YouTube’s boundaries without being suspended, Rusty’s done it better than anyone… but occasionally a few drinks tip the scales. And then there was the Sargento Cheese incident in which he got dinged for impersonating a cheese company, and a supposed threat by way of Red Dead Redemption 2. The current media landscape hypes up the fake destructivity of edgy content, and that fits nicely with Kevin’s video about scapegoat theory: The Invention of Blame. It’s a strange fit for something like comedy, which depends on context to a tremendous degree. Actual blame for bad things? Rusty’s gotten a bit of it, but it doesn’t seem real or serious -- like people saying they cut their fingers off because of his knife game video. He did have a surreal and harrowing moment when finding out that a school shooter had watched some of his videos, and that opens a debate about whether content creators harbor any responsibility at all for the things their audiences do. Would all of this be lessened if we just took away likes on social media? What’s actually happening to us when we watch Rusty’s videos, hear his songs, or read his tweets? It’s time to talk Requiem of the Crazies, the third volume of which is now up on IndieGoGo. We get some backstory about the characters’ inspirations, and if you haven’t read Volumes 1 and 2, you can do it for free at the IndieGoGo link above. Only Papa Meat knows the real answer. And it launches us into a discussion of copyright claims and the iconic imagery of Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes peeing on pretty much everything. But ‘cheap’ toilet humor usually doesn’t make it into Meat Canyon’s work, and we talk about why it gets cut. In Kevin’s estimation, Meat Canyon *does* take pop culture icons and turn them into guys not allowed within 500 feet of a playground -- and the answer may be in the gums and teeth. Meat Canyon’s most impressive feat might be in the management of his process. He’s organized complex collabs at a shockingly fast pace, and he’s driven by gratitude and a common sense desire to just get projects done. It shows with his successful Kickstarter, which also accomplished the superhuman act of actually being ready when it was promised. He’s not superhuman, though. He likes hanging out with his wife, listening to new music, and grabbing some extra sleep. Meat Canyon loves his work, though, and it shows in his transition to a full-timer who’s pumping out originals like Monster Lab. The Baby Gang and Patrons ask about the future of Jamal and Rachel and Day Drinkin’, Meat’s thoughts on Denmark’s huge-penis cartoon for children, the trials of outrageously fast growth and the imposter syndrome that comes with it, and more. Ep 73TCU's 2020 Highlights Compilation [Ep. 73]

Listen to us on *Apple Podcasts:* https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-create-unknown/id1437172203 *Spotify:* https://open.spotify.com/show/0Tl7tpMssVqt7O4qej8Ro0 100% of *Patreon* funds go to making The Create Unknown, and you can get early access to episodes for just $2: https://patreon.com/thecreateunknown Join our *Discord* to talk with artists, creators, and fans of the finer things in online life: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw *Welcome to a very special edition of The Create Unknown.* Thanks to all of you, we had an incredible year, and before we do more we’ve got Meat Canyon, Rusty Cage, CordWit, and on the way. We wanted to recap some of the absolute best moments of 2020 as chosen by us and all of you. We’ve got Schlatt, Michael Reeves, iDubbbz, psychicpebbles and more -- but we’re going to start with Justin Whang, whose RT is actually coveted currency in the YouTube ecosystem. He’s also got a theory about the Boogie gun incident, too. Michael Reeves is one of our favorite evil geniuses, and he’s got a unique workflow that runs parallel to his overall mystery -- and a little bit about a piss cup. JSchlatt was one of our most popular episodes of 2020. He tells us about his exceedingly warm CaptainSparklez mansion experience, and gets even more heated about cereals and cereal residue. Were you disappointed that your PS4 didn’t run Cyberpunk 2077 very well? SumitoMedia is about to further crush your gaming dreams. iDubbbz jumped into the Unknown at just the right time to talk about Leafy’s ban from YouTube and how we all should approach a more heavily-regulated future -- and the fursona question? That went poorly. GloZell lended her camel milk expertise in a quest to tell us about how not to manage money. And oh my god, the leeches. Eggy is one of our absolute favorite YouTubers and social media personalities, and the first thing you really need to know about Eggy lore is… the uh, the school shooting problem. After that, we get his freestyle TCU rap. Sonichu, occupying the body of Christine Weston Chandler, explained everything about the upcoming dimensional merge. Her Twitter followers know that it began a few weeks ago. Sonichu has had a hell of a run on the internet, and gave us the best 3-second highlight in the history of The Create Unknown. Oddguy, also known as EZPZ, one our first real controversial guest, and his episode is a must-listen. He speaks for Encyclopedia Dramatica, so he’s got a unique perspective on where we draw the line for making fun of people -- or not. And PsychicPebbles continues to be our most popular guest, probably because of the life advice you’re about to hear. As a bonus, we get Because I bit ya. Michael Cusack is one of the funniest, most talented animators anywhere, but his alter ego Lucas the Magnificent is the one making a comeback on social media. And we finish with Happy Console Gamer giving us a rundown on how to do. It’s a perfectly positive note to end 2020 on. Tots, Dumpster Crew, Infantry, Babies, Creators and Space Cowboys, you’ve given us an incredible year and we’re excited to lead off 2021. 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. His commentary channel -- which Matt describes as a rare ‘wholesome’ channel in the genre -- just hit 500,000 subscribers, but to Scott, it still feels like 500. And the struggle has just begun. Scott’s got a simple approach to YouTube; he makes stuff he likes and that he hopes the audience enjoys. He has a more complex approach to lie detector tests, which he became familiar with during work for a municipal police department -- and one specific question during his own lie detector test really threw him. And who would Scott like to administer a lie detector test to? Shane Dawson, partly to find out the truth about Cheeto. One of the best parts of Scott’s Twitter feed is his highlighting of comments that are just… so infuriating you have to laugh at them. Some people just don’t want him to make a living, and others don’t want him to enjoy himself EVER. The takeaway? They don’t get how any of this works. Last week’s episode with SumitoMedia covered the Warrant song “Cherry Pie,” and Scott admits it’s his favorite song in the history of music. We hit the origin of Scott’s community of “Strugglers” and what it’s been like to build a channel from scratch and eventually ditch a nice full-time job for full-time YouTube. He’s pretty hopeful that 2021 will offer plenty of opportunities for creators to be original and develop new, viable content -- even if Twitch and other platforms keep moving the goalposts and changing the rules of the game. The Patrons end the episode by asking about Scott’s favorite YouTubers, his inspirations, Disney conspiracy theories, and the drip-drop of eggnog dancing on one’s delicate palette. Thanks to everyone who showed up for this right before Christmas Eve and to everyone who has supported us throughout 2020. We ended the year in an amazing position with great momentum, and we’ve got a few big things planned for the beginning of 2021. 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. Ep 71Meme Master SumitoMedia Talks Cyberpunk and Simps [Ep. 71]

And just a few minutes in, it’s easy to understand how Sumit can pull off recording videos every week by relying on his broad knowledge of internet happenings instead of writing detailed scripts. So, how does a guy who studied electrical engineering and computer science wind up analyzing memes? It’s actually a cleaner path than it seems, aside from a period of discovery in which he realized he wasn’t going to be the next Austin Evans. All 3 of us had a long, grinding road to what we do now, and Sumit explains the point at which he was able to flip the switch into full-time mode. A disagreement about comedian Bert Kreischer leads to one of The Create Unknown’s most serious, divisive battles in 71 episodes: The Great Cherry Pie War of 2020. Warrant’s classic might just be the song that breaks up this podcast. Then it’s Twitch time, as we discuss the implications of Twitch’s new policy changes on speech. Is it really a big deal that “simp” and “incel” are now bannable words? The Patron army jumps in to ask Sumit about Kid Cudi, the best and worst memes of 2020, the future of memes in 2021, and a surprisingly sensible fursona. Thanks again to all the patrons who make every episode of this show possible, and thanks to everyone new who showed up to the live Discord recording! 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. We start by analyzing his failed 2020 presidential campaign, including his brief foray into being verified and his platform of “ban women.” Then it’s onto what people do with Minecraft money and his experience witnessing captainsparklez greenhouse supercar flex. With such a unique perspective and amalgamation of life experience, who will be jschlatt’s running mate in 2024? It isn’t one of the Lunch Club of Traves, Ted Nivison, Slimecicle or Hugbox. Then cereal warfare breaks out, and it gets *heated*. We’ve got cereal tier ranking problems so severe that it almost ends the episode. After reconciling, we analyze boneless wings and lactose intolerance before nuzzling up to the elephant in the room: jschlatt’s perpetual propensity for getting cancelled. What’s he do on YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter to fuel this, and… does any of it really matter? One thing we know for sure is that jschlatt’s not going to move to LA anytime soon -- and neither are Matt and Kevin, who have done their time in that city and are thrilled to have made it out alive. The patrons machine gun questions at jschlatt about his favorite movie, the keyboards he breaks, his 10 year plan, and where his content is headed in 2021. Ep 69Why Kevin Killed Vsauce2’s Mind Blow [Ep. 69]

For 3 years, people have asked Kevin every single day about why he doesn’t do Mind Blow anymore -- so now we’re taking some time to talk about why Mind Blow’s window had to close, and why it’s so important to stop making certain types of content. First, Kevin details what the show is NOT called, because that’s surprisingly controversial. We hit a breakdown of what Mind Blow was and why it was structured in a certain way, and we find out that Kevin actually invented YouTube Chapters. One of the elements that made Mind Blow so successful was Kevin’s thoroughness and his commitment to detail. But did that actually make it harder to compete with other content creators, and especially with larger networks? Did he make a mistake by being honest? The chat weighs in about what would blow their minds, and we eventually realize that YouTube just stopped favoring content in Mind Blow’s format. At a certain point it made sense to evaluate the opportunity cost of continuing Mind Blow in comparison to other opportunities in the marketplace, and to decide whether it was the best way to serve his audience. And that brings us to general lessons about killing content you like, and even that a portion of your audience likes. When is it time to pull the plug? How much should you respect the wishes of your most rabid fans, especially if they run counter to what’s best for you? Jake from Vsauce3 has a theory about what REALLY happened to Mind Blow, we talk about what should be on your Christmas list, and we find out how much data is contained within a single sperm cell. So, yeah. The best part of this podcast is the community of people that’s come together around it -- so this week we decided to hang out with everyone and talk about… everything. Like Kevin finding fault in parents’ propensity to use food as bribes, while Matt thinks the McDonald’s $1 double cheeseburger is the greatest nutritional advance in human history. The live chat wants to know what Kevin’s been playing on the PS5 and how Demon’s Souls encourages multiple playthroughs. The live chat is OUTRAGED by Taco Bell’s menu changes, and it seems they miss the grilled stuft burrito the most. Matt’s still not over MatPat’s incorrect take about the location of milk in grocery stores, which he rages about on Discord nearly every day. Matt wants to learn Hebrew or Russian and be able to run. Kevin wants to learn Japanese and play the drums. We both have a long list of regrets. We get derailed into a serious discussion of the role of ‘passion’ in the work we do. Kevin and Matt have different but similar opinions on this, and they conclude that the real answer isn’t so much in passion and enjoyment as it is in finding meaning in the work you do. He’s had some crazy streams lately, including one in which he got $5,000 in donations and bit through his mobile phone. He still likes to party, but it’s unlikely that he’ll have a repeat of his famous 2018 passing out stream that was the result of an entire liter of rum. Now Eggy’s into rapping, and it’s a frequent feature on his streams. He’s got a lifetime of experience to throw into his bars, from the insane 4chan hoax experience to a high-profile relationship melting down. But where’d it all begin for him on YouTube? Primink’s now-deleted video, which turned out to be an amazing thing for both of them. We hear details of the FBI showing up at Eggy’s house, tales from the gas station, and a complete rundown on exactly who buys each type of cigarette. And that’s a lead-in to our excellent Patreon questions, including the most and least kino moments in Eggy’s life. Austin explains what it’s been like navigating the ever-changing tech space and whether it’s any easier or harder now than it was back in the day. At this point, he’s got help, and a major theme of our discussion is how he’s managed to build a team that can execute his vision reliably and faithfully. But did he wait too long on building out the brand of Austin Evans? The real question for the audience is whether bullying works out for people. Wait, WHAT? No. But sometimes. But no. In the early days, Austin was inspired by everything from Harry Potter to Lemony Snicket -- and oddly enough, it influences how he approaches his YouTube tech content. Patrons ask about what Austin would do if YouTube disappeared tomorrow, whether he’d roll on TikTok, whether he’s ever going to get a Rainbow Charizard, if tech is easier or harder than other YouTube verticals, and… who’s actually sponsoring this episode. Thanks to all our Patrons for making this happen each and every week, and thanks to Austin for taking so much time to hang out! 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. 💬 CONNECT WITH US: » Chat with us on DISCORD: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw » Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/createunknown » Follow us on INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/thecreateunknown » Follow us on FACEBOOK: http://facebook.com/thecreateunknown » View our website: https://thecreateunknown.com Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. In a little over a year, he’s grown from 0 to 10,000 subs -- and he enters The Create Unknown to explain how he’s balanced slowly building an audience of his content with an audience who just plain likes *him*. It’s tempting to rip on lolcows and famous disasters, but Kudos explains that he’s got a bit of a moral code that guides his videos. With his Belle Delphine video, he approached the topic by respecting her privacy and keeping an appropriate distance. And that’s why he’s selling “Teethpaste” for $31. Matt and Kudos actually met in Australia last year, and Matt ended up making Kudos vomit -- but the real story is that Kevin actually invented the notion of gamer bathwater and tub-related activities. It raises a point about whether people should like your content, like you, or both. Lots of people dislike Cool Cat. Some people like eating decades-old MREs. And it’s perfectly valid to start a YouTube channel showcasing miniature radio-controlled construction equipment moving dirt in your basement. But how has ManyKudos used all of this to refine his approach to his next video subject, the chalice-wielding YandereDev? Patrons end the episode by asking Kudos where his name came from, whether he’d ever go completely hairless, whether his charity extends to a random neighbor asking for a cup of sugar, and more. Thanks to Kudos for entering the Unknown and to all the patrons, from Tots to Babies, who keep the TCU hamster wheel churning and burning. Ep 64Christine Weston Chandler and Sonichu Exclusive Interview [Ep. 64]

Join our *Discord* to talk with artists, creators, and fans of the finer things in online life: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw Support Christine Weston Chandler on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=4525122 Few internet personalities are as famous as Sonichu, formerly known as Christine Weston Chandler (Mama), CWC, Chris-Chan, and Christian. Sonichu’s lore extends back well over a decade, and it’s so detailed and well-archived that Gene Samuel’s documentary series is on its 44th episode of 40-minute videos. There’s a lot to unpack. We’ve wanted to talk to Sonichu and Christine for so long that it had to be a 2-year birthday to the TCU community and to us. We start by figuring out exactly who is joining us this week, because it’s not Christine. A few months ago Christine and her creation Sonichu switched bodies, so we ended up speaking with Sonichu herself, who could speak through Mama. Who and what is Sonichu? Where did Sonichu come from? We find out the truth behind the origin of the electric hedgehog and a legendary symbol of its power: the Sonichu Medallion. Then it’s on to Sonichu’s and Mama’s creative process. How exactly were the original Sonichu comics made? How were they published? What is their future? In the process, we find out what Sonichu’s daily life as a goddess is about. Our own dimension’s merge with C-197 (in which all superheroes, Original and Fictional characters exist) is forthcoming, and Sonichu explains the differences between the merged world and ours right now. And finally, as always, we take some questions from our full house of LIVE patrons. They want to know about Mama’s all-time favorite My Little Pony episode, and about her expansive collection of memorabilia. They also want the answers to some pretty serious questions: how has Mama dealt with the haters and trolls for so many years? How is she holding up today? And Mama’s answer might be the best advice anyone has ever given on The Create Unknown. Ep 63Is Mr. Beast the Last YouTuber? [Ep. 63]

100% of *Patreon* funds go to making The Create Unknown, and you can get early access to episodes for just $2: https://patreon.com/thecreateunknown Join our *Discord* to talk with artists, creators, and fans of the finer things in online life: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw It’s time to rejoice babies and gents -- The Create Unknown is entering its Terrible Twos. And to celebrate the second anniversary of the show, this week we highlight the three pillars it was built on: Kevin, Matt, and most importantly, the TCU community. To kick off our birthday bash, we talk about what makes that community so great and the creative network it has spawned. Even through the limitations of COVID, creators have been able to thrive and do what they do best: create. The TCU community is no exception, and between the Discord server, social media, and patreon, our listeners and supporters have landed some pretty sweet gigs. Kevin also gives us all a hot take on Fortnite concerts. Look out Travis Scott... Kevin’s on your tail. It wouldn’t be an episode of TCU without mention of the latest (and possibly greatest?) platform for content creation: Tik Tok. We want to know if it’s even worth bothering with something like YouTube at this point. Is Tik Tok just better? Is there any money in it at all? Find out what WE’RE doing on Tik Tok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMJmSyDFa/ The Tik Tok discussion makes us get a little introspective about YouTube. With all the popularity shifting to places like Twitch and Tik Tok, we gotta ask: is YouTube boomer? Is it a thing of the past like jazz? Will people look at YouTubers like we look at rock stars from the ‘70s and ‘80s? Is Mr. Beast the LAST YouTuber? Finally, we close the festivities by taking questions from the people who make this show happen, and have for over a year and a half: our patrons. They want to know about Kevin’s gamer life, which gives us an unexpected look at how Matt tests the limits of the Playstation 4. We also finally learn what Kevin’s fursona is after he has “hounded” our guests about theirs for so long, and about the brushes our beloved hosts have had with Death himself. Thank you again to all of our patrons who keep this show going, and thank you to each and every one of you for listening. We love you, Space Cowboys, and we look forward to another 37 years of The Create Unknown. Ep 62Inside Encyclopedia Dramatica: Drugs, Death and Doxxing (ft. Oddguy) [Ep. 62]

100% of *Patreon* funds go to making The Create Unknown, and you can get early access to episodes for just $2: https://patreon.com/thecreateunknown Join our *Discord* to talk with artists, creators, and fans of the finer things in online life: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw We interview classy, professional creators on The Create Unknown. Oddguy isn’t one of them. He’s an admin of one of the internet’s most infamous sources of degeneracy: Encyclopedia Dramatica. ED has been a constant source of controversy for 15 years, and it’s alternately celebrated as hilarious and vilified for being both hateful and destructive. After talking to Oddguy and learning about lawsuits, criminal activity, and frivolity, it’s probably both. Buckle up Space Cowboys, because this is our wildest episode yet. What’s Encyclopedia Dramatica and why should it even exist in the first place? Oddguy explains the role of a site like ED in the broad realm of online speech, the incompetence of past admins, and the hot water it’s gotten them into. What’s the best way to find out what ED is really all about? Kevin reading his own Vsauce2 entry on ED. The interplay between themes of comedy and tragedy drive both ED content and reactions to it. We talk about the effect ED might have on mental health, and exactly what the site’s target demographic is. Then we discuss the longevity online content has and its effect on someone’s image. Do people have a right to be forgotten, or is everything on the internet permanent? Does a person’s age play a role in whether they should be forgiven? Encyclopedia Dramatica is no stranger to scandal, and that includes lawsuits. Several lawsuits. Oddguy gives us a short history ED’s lawsuits and lolsuits, as well as a rundown of their most recent court challenge -- and it’s all developing in real-time. After talking to OddGuy about his own personal YouTube content -- truth streams -- we take some questions from our patrons. They want to know about the future of Encyclopedia Dramatica and the future of edgy content as a whole. Why does the website look like it hands out viruses like Halloween candy, and why keep going in the face of so many lawsuits? Thanks again to ALL our patrons for making this show happen, and to Oddguy for joining us on an episode that had to be heavily edited before release -- and those patrons who showed up for the live, unedited recording got a show they’ll never forget. His unrivaled coding ability and creative vision have given life to amazing inventions like “The Roomba That Screams When it Bumps Into Stuff” and “Trigger Me Elmo,” and he streams most of the design process on Twitch to offer a peek at what it’s like inside the mind of YouTube’s resident mad scientist. Today, Michael takes a break from designing his masterpieces to sit down with us on The Create Unknown. Every generation needs a scientific figurehead. Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye dominated the 20th century. Is Michael Reeves the next generation of science, engineering, and coding entertainment? We also learn the incredible lengths Matt has gone to just to record this episode -- and why he sounds like a tornado warning broadcaster. After that we explore Michael’s most recent project: The Laser Baby. He partnered with Amazon for their series “The Boys,” but he took a pretty unconventional approach to promoting the show. Kevin talks about his wildly different experience with making sponsored videos, and it leaves us wondering: just how did Michael pull it off? Michael makes some of the most unique and fun videos on YouTube, so how does he come up with his bizarre, unique ideas? He also employs an abnormal editing process, which may keep him from hiring an editor and also throw a wrench into collaborations. Then we get down to business. We talk about Michael’s former work experience as a software developer, his near-experience as a psychiatrist, and even his time working for the government. He also tells us about his self-teaching method that he used to learn everything he knows about software engineering -- and it’s much cheaper than you might think. Oh, and we also learn about Michael’s explosive, podcast-interrupting bladder. Finally, we take some questions from our patrons who have been saving these up for the year and a half they’ve begged Michael to Enter the Unknown. They want to know all the watchlists he’s probably on, the average cost of his projects, and how he keeps coaxing his friends and loved ones into his various taser-laden death traps. A huge thank you to all of our baby-saving patrons -- you really make this show happen. Whang’s research for his “Tales From the Internet” series has taken him to some odd places, so is there anything that he finds weird at this point? Or is he just desensitized to it all? We kick off the episode by finding out his shockingly tame answer. And then we talk about what he really does with his “Immortality Rings.” We discuss Whang’s life on Twitter and the invaluable currency that is the Whang Retweet. He tells us what kind of material makes the cut, what happens when a retweet goes wrong, and how Kevin’s 1980’s computer swimsuit tweet took on a horrible life of its own. Whang’s made several successful series on his YouTube channel, and that plays into a discussion about a shift to longer-form, documentarian style content like iDubbbz, Internet Historian, and more. But the recipe for that sort of content is delicate; Whang tells us what makes his videos successful *and* what he avoids. Then we get stupid. Online genius is remarkably dumb. Are the Paul brothers and Belle Delphine secret geniuses? And what sort of perceptions of a creator influence the content they actually make? Can “internet good guys” like Boogie ever change course? In addition to YouTube, Whang plays in the band Jynx -- and that career trajectory has been a wild ride. From starting off in high school to touring Europe to… why he sings Rick Astley at karaoke. Patrons want to know about the caloric value of a box in one of Whang’s infamous videos, which topics he refuses to touch, his craziest experience working as an extra on TV sets, and more. Ep 59 GloZell Green Rises, Falls And Tells All [Ep. 59]

She built a loyal audience and a tremendous presence on the platform to the point where she was the face of YouTube. The woman who made “My Push Up Bra Will Help Me Get My Man” and “The Cinnamon Challenge ... by GloZell and her Big Behind Earrings” was sitting directly across from President Obama for an exclusive interview. As GloZell made money, she wasn’t afraid to spend it -- but that cashflow didn’t last forever. The algorithm changed and crushed her channel. Millions of views per video turned into tens of thousands, and times got tough… fast. She’s entered The Create Unknown to tell us exactly what that rise, fall, and re-birth was like (and how you can avoid it). We open up the episode by pulling back the curtain on what it was like to have it all. We wanted to know what the most outlandish, lavish purchase she made at the peak of her career was -- and her answer would’ve lived in a jar in an 18th century doctor’s office. She tells us about all sorts of bad decisions and how her peers only fueled the madness. After that we talk about the reason it all went south: the algorithm change. The system went from favoring short, easily digestible, viral content to supporting longer, ten minute videos almost exclusively. This hit many of YouTube’s original creators like a truck, causing so many like GloZell to fall to the wayside. She tells us what she did after she hit the bottom, what her social life was like after the money started to run out, what she would’ve done differently if she had another shot at it all, and how exactly she’s adapted to reinvigorate her career. Finally, we get into some questions from our patrons who tuned in LIVE to see GloZell in action. They want to know what puts a smile on her face, her feelings toward work on projects like Escape the Night, the difference between making a YouTube video and working in old school media, and just how much money it would take for her to spend the next 4300 years as a series of ducks. And Baby Gang Jeff’s question about hot sauce took the episode in a direction we *really* didn’t expect. Thank you to each and every one of our patrons -- you really do make every episode of this show happen. He came up with C&H as a sick teenager and joined with amazing talent to blow it up into a massive, instantly-recognizable brand. So who *is* Kris Wilson? We hear about his life before his online career took off and where it all started, making comics as a break from animation, and exactly why Newgrounds was a lot more “free love compared to YouTube.” Then we dive into a topic that’s important for creators who want to expand: working alone versus working with a team. Maintaining a cohesive idea while dividing the workload is something that Kris has mastered, and it’s why he has a team of 24 full time artists and animators. But what’s it take to make a successful webcomic? What pitfalls do so many creators fall into along the way? Is a complex comic the best way to go, or is simple more effective? Kris also details the biggest mistake artists make when it comes to making a comic, and it’s probably a surprise. Kevin talks about the Tik Tok Effect, which is the creation of content when constrained by time and other hard limitations. We find out how this phenomenon has affected his and Matt’s perspective on making long form content on Vsauce2, and how making restrictive content leads to success in new ways. Oh -- and we also find out about Scott Kurtz’ jealousy and hatred for the Cyanide and Happiness brand. And finally we take some questions from our perpetually-supportive patrons. They want to know whether Kris has seen Netflix’s “Cuties,” the origin of the catchy “Cyanide and Happiness” name, advice for other ex-Mormons, and his philosophy on content theft. We also get some fantastic news about Kevin’s early birthday gift LIVE on the air. And as always, a massive thank you to all our patrons for directly supporting the show, and to Kris for imparting his wisdom so that we can all get a little closer to happiness (and a little further from cyanide). So, it’s time to meet him for yourself. From his work on Rooster Teeth’s Inside Gaming to his own high-aesthetic videos and music, Doplex is one-stop entertainment. And after two years of waiting, he’s finally joining us on The Create Unknown. And that begs the question: why doesn’t Doplex have 1 million subs by now? So many big YouTube names have showered him with compliments, and the hype for every new Doplex release is strong. We talk about why that might be and how the process of making videos for his channel plays into it. Then we dive into his work on Rooster Teeth’s Inside Gaming and what it’s like to do what you love on someone else’s dime. Kevin gives us some sage-like wisdom on working for the sake of passion versus a paycheck, and how that relates to his experience with Vsauce2. Doplex tells us about the hardships of making a video written entirely by an AI, and how it may or may not have been an excuse to perform a Mariah Carey song for us all. He also outlines his process for making his ever-popular “Internet Oddities” series, and just how much it would cost for him to wrestle you... in bits. And retro gaming emerges as a common interest shared between all members of the panel. When exactly does a gaming system become retro? Then we discuss Doplex’s favorite game, and the subject of one of his most masterful videos: Super Mario World. This leads Matt to do a Ben Shapiro WAP-style rendition of the original Mario rap written at the end of that video. You can check out the original here, and trust me, you’ll want to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYiFDkW5ztM Doplex survives a grilling by our patrons, who ask him to invent a sponsor for this episode, and he graciously funnels us some cash to promote Doplex Scissors (patent pending). He can’t escape without giving the full background on his puppet companion Naked Man and explaining how he handled living with his former roommate Harvey Weinstein. We also learn why The Create Unknown is a better podcast than one of its stiffest competitors: The First Podcast, which Doplex will now co-host with Lars. We are at war with T1 Podcast. We have always been at war with T1 Podcast (except when we were guests on it, which was awesome). Glink’s socially-focused documentary mindset and Slush’s clear, deeply-researched conclusions collide to form *Gush* : their new podcast that takes on the pressing issues and topics in the YouTube landscape. Check out their stuff here: *Gush Podcast* : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChJT4Jg89AHMyybcXFeKp_A *Slush* : https://www.youtube.com/user/samfdigital *Glink* : https://www.youtube.com/user/GlinkLegend We kick off the episode by calling on Glink’s recent video about online father figures to find out who they think their “online daddies” are, as well as their online mommies. Then we get their take on the issue of censorship on YouTube, and they conclude that, “The rules have never been more ambiguous.” Is that because of the corporate structure of YouTube and Google? Then it’s a bit of Vidcon analysis. Is the convention itself really what brings creators together? If not, what is? We find that the Tik Tok child-filled convention center may not be the most useful professional locus, and we talk about Matt’s big plans for a new convention that would bring out the very best parts of Vidcon… and without all the bad parts. This leads us into a discussion about age on the internet, and if it’s even relevant any more. Oh, and Matt comes to the shocking realization that Keemstar is about halfway to drawing from Social Security. Let that sink in. Then we talk OnlyFans and the dangers that it may or may not bring. Does OnlyFans provide a healthy contribution to online life, or does it create a parasocial relationship that both sides should consider avoiding? What we do know is that we just accidentally launched a joint venture called OnlyFriends. Slush shares his experiences with an online crime of the highest order: content theft. And are reaction streamers just stealing content? Should they have to stop watching live or remove stream reuploads at the creator’s request? There’s a lot of thievery going on. We cap off the episode with some questions from our patrons who are dying to know the pair’s opinions on retro gaming and the state of the troubled Smash Bros. community. There’s a lot to unpack there -- and then The Kino Corner conspires to extend the episode by a few hours by asking about each of their favorite albums. We ask Ian about the justification of Leafy’s removal and how it ties into the his Content Cop on Leafy also being taken down. But does it really set a “scary precedent?” And what does Leafy’s ban mean for the future of the platform? Then we talk about the subject of Ian’s latest documentary, Daxflame. Ian met Madison at a Jacksfilms’ bachelor party, and their conversation eventually led to the hour-long ‘Ice Cream Man’ documentary. Check out both of Ian’s documentaries and Dax’s newest game show episode here: *Full Force:* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfwPL-bd_mk ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfwPL-bd_mk ) *Ice Cream Man:* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYk4ymtQ1WM ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYk4ymtQ1WM ) *Daxflame’s Smoothie Madness Episode 2:* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnjALU4Bus8 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnjALU4Bus8 ) Oh, and we also learn that Matt chased down Dax at Vidcon like a starstruck fan -- or creep -- just to snap a picture with him. We get slightly existential when Ian asks Matt and Kevin if they “need more in their life” as they get older. Matt had enough after trying to buy a light bulb in Tel Aviv, while Kevin expresses his love for conquering nature. Ian’s done the normal thing and evolved his content as he’s aged. Ian details why he thinks TikTok is the future of content creation and why he thinks TikTok is the “perfect loop” of consumption. Kevin weighs in with his own experience using the app and how the platform’s time limitations played into adjusting his long-form process. Our patrons ask about the fate of Content Cop and Kickstarter Crap, the status of Ian’s upcoming mobile game “Pocket Squirrels,” and about the gruesome end that awaits the remainder of his fan mail. Lastly, as is with every episode, we ask Ian what his fursona is -- and he saw it coming. Thank you to all our patrons who make The Create Unknown happen, and thanks again to Ian for coming back on! *🎥 CREDITS:* Hosts: Kevin Lieber ( https://twitter.com/kevinlieber ) and Matt Tabor ( https://twitter.com/TaborTCU ) Edited and Produced by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com ( http://megadrivemusic.com/ ) Makeup: Mo Lewit → https://www.instagram.com/mo_the_makeup_madame/ Photography: Paula Lieber → https://www.etsy.com/shop/Craftality "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. 💬 CONNECT WITH US: » Chat with us on DISCORD: http://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw » Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/createunknown » Follow us on INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/thecreateunknown » Follow us on FACEBOOK: http://facebook.com/thecreateunknown » View our website: https://thecreateunknown.com ( https://thecreateunknown.com/ ) Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. He even brought his dog Kevin along for the ride, effectively doubling the Kevin concentration of this episode… and perhaps even squaring it. Weest starts by describing what it’s like to live like a true gamer, including adopting a sleep schedule designed to avoid “peak human hours” and how Overwatch has dominated his life for 4 years. He may be ranked in the Top 500 players of the game, but he’s still convinced that he’s terrible at it. Then we examine Weest’s career as a content creator, and the strange origins of his internet fame. He tells us about his humble beginnings as a “radio personality” on iFunny -- and about how the toxic community there took away any empathy he may have had left. Weest details his transition to YouTube, and the rise and fall of the cursed “AmandyXD” series. A forensic analysis of the phenomenon of the “Coom Cave” shows Weest’s real depth as a content creator, and probably gets our episode demonetized. Then it’s time for internet drama. We ask some pretty important questions, like whether any of it actually matters. Is an apology just a PR move? Do people really care, or do they just want to be mad? Weest reveals some deep thoughts about how he’s handled involvement in high-profile issues in the past, and what he’ll do differently in the future. We round out the episode with some questions from our patrons -- and they start off strong. Jake Roper of Vsauce3 needed to know some very important information: how many hot dogs can Weest fit in his mouth? After we find out exactly that (through a live demonstration, described on audio the best we can), we learn the worst insult levied at his friend Brandon/WildSpartanz, and of course, about Weest’s surprisingly graphic fursona. Thank you to each and every one of our patrons who continue to make this show happen, and thanks again to Weest for joining us! 🎥 CREDITS: Hosts: Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor Produced and Edited by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com Opening Animation: Kidmograph City Animation: Eric Langlay "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. 💬 CONNECT WITH US: » Chat with us on DISCORD: discord.gg/qAQV3Jw » Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/createunknown » Follow us on INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/thecreateunknown » Follow us on FACEBOOK: http://facebook.com/thecreateunknown » View our website: https://thecreateunknown.com Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 53Michael Cusack Talks YOLO, Rick & Morty and Smiling Friends [Ep. 53]

*100% of Patreon* funds go to making The Create Unknown, and you can get early access to episodes for just $2: https://patreon.com/thecreateunknown Join our DISCORD to talk with artists, creators, and fans of the finer things in online life: https://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw *Follow Michael Cusack* on YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkHPqmBsJkws8HbPP1cd_NA ) , Twitter ( https://twitter.com/MichaelRCusack ) , and Instagram ( https://www.instagram.com/michaelrcusack/ ) *Our favorite Australian animator Michael Cusack* finally makes his debut on The Create Unknown to talk about his hit new Adult Swim show, “YOLO: Crystal Fantasy,” based on animated shorts that put him on the YouTube map back in 2012. Oh, and if you haven’t seen the show yet, you’re seriously missing out. *Check out the first two episodes here:* https://www.adultswim.com/videos/yolo-crystal-fantasy Michael has made *Koala Man, Damo & Darren, and the Rick & Morty's "Bushworld Adventures."* He knows humor -- but what does a comedic genius think is funny? Not only do we find that out, but we also conclude why things are funny in the first place and how the high school experience plays into it all. Then we venture into Michael’s storied career as an animator and how he got to where he is now. He tells us about how his inspiration to make animation on YouTube actually came from a short he saw on Vimeo, and how that all eventually spiraled into his beautiful partnership with friend of the show Psychicpebbles -- the Co-Creator of Adult Swim's “Smiling Friends.” Then we cap off the career talk by discussing Michael’s new show, “YOLO: Crystal Fantasy,” spawned straight from his short series on YouTube. Michael flexes his artistic talent by creating a pitch for his next hit show: Mr. Bluegal. It’s a heart-wrenching story of civil war in the town of Goblagoo, Australia, which only has a couple dozen people. Even so, it's set to have a grand finale to end all finales. Then our patrons ask Michael about the fate of “Smiling Friends.” Will there be more episodes? Will we see Charlie and Pim again? We also find out about Michael’s near-fatal Subway wound? And lastly, Michael reveals his Aussie-inspired fursona. Thanks to all our patrons who keep the show going, and thanks again to Michael for joining us! *🎥 CREDITS:* Hosts: Kevin Lieber ( https://twitter.com/kevinlieber ) and Matt Tabor ( https://twitter.com/TaborTCU ) Edited by John Swan → https://youtube.com/johnswanyt Produced by Ben Webster → https://twitter.com/benwebsterTCU Theme by Mega Drive → http://megadrivemusic.com Makeup: Mo Lewit → https://www.instagram.com/mo_the_makeup_madame/ Photography: Paula Lieber → https://www.etsy.com/shop/Craftality "The Create Unknown" is produced by Unknown Media. 💬 CONNECT WITH US: » Chat with us on DISCORD: http://discord.gg/qAQV3Jw » Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/createunknown » Follow us on INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/thecreateunknown » Follow us on FACEBOOK: http://facebook.com/thecreateunknown » View our website: https://thecreateunknown.com Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 43HappyConsoleGamer: A Founding Father of YouTube Gaming

Johnny Millenium is a pioneer of giving honest and passionate video game reviews on his HappyConsoleGamer channel, sharing his unbridled and unflinching love for anime and gaming going back decades. In a world of Angry Video Game Nerds, Johnny saw opportunity to live by the tagline “Other people review games and bash them, I just want to review cool games that I think KICK ASS!” Oh -- and he literally invented the concept of filming in front of a wall of video games. If there were a Mount Rushmore of YouTube Gaming, Johnny would be on it. In this episode, Johnny tells us about the origins of his channel and how it was a response to the negative reviewer landscape at the time. He also talks about his positive outlook on games as a whole, how it plays into his recipe for YouTube success, and what a dealing with a debilitating illness has done to his productivity and creativity. Johnny also admitted to something important; not even he can be positive about Mass Effect: Andromeda. We also dive into some questions from the Baby Gang, who ask him about his view of the gaming industry, how to stand out on gaming YouTube, and... whether he's wearing pants. We find out about a t-shirt Kevin was ashamed to wear and reveal HappyConsoleGamer's secret love-hate relationship with Degrassi.
