Ep 709709: Marathon Cheater, Paralympics Controversy, & Cue Card Hero

Happy Cinco de Mayo, Americans! Hope you enjoy some tacos and margs. Sarah tells a story about how Eli denied her alcohol, and Susie truly feels bad for him for making this "rookie mistake." We discuss the amazing Judy Blume documentary, and how she championed free speech and openness about our bodies way before her time. We learn about a woman who cheated in an ultramarathon, and claimed it was just a "misunderstanding." The woman rode in a car for part of the race! Oopsie daisy! We discuss the Paralympics Tiktok and why it rubs some people the wrong way, but it's right up our alley! Susie talks about the man behind the SNL cue cards, and why he is a New York City legend.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/qvh1qm8v8tJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 708708: Zombie Response Team, Time Travel, & World's Oldest Joke

Sarah describes her dog Bo's final day, and why he held on til the very end. We discuss a new show that highlights extreme personalities and fringe lifestyles including one man who spends his days and night prepping for the zombie apocalypse. She explains why simple therapeutic tools helped him make headway on curbing his obsession. But we're less optimistic about a woman who believes she's a time traveler. Susie reminisces about a man she met who claimed he was a time traveler, and why a simple fashion choice made her realize he probably was a fraud. We speculate about the cause of sinkholes and Sarah said she believes there was an underground forest beneath one sinkhole, and we have follow-up questions about that. Plus, we hear what the world's oldest joke is (from 1900 BC!), and why we will never run out of things about which to laugh.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/qvh1qm8v8tJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 707707: The Man Show, Boston Bombing, & Waco Cult

We get a follow-up on Sarah's habit of eating muffin cups and it somehow got even more insane than it already was, but the good news is that there are apparently many people who indulged in baking cup cuisine, so Sarah isn't alone. Susie makes an observation about the show's men watch, and points out how women are willing to watch male hosts, but men are reluctant to watch women. We discuss the Boston bombing documentary and the way photographic evidence and video footage actually made the case more difficult in the beginning of the investigation. We learn why the story was even more shocking than we remember and how moving the documentary was. We hear how the Waco Branch Davidian cult and siege is related to the Boston and Oklahoma City bombings, and why the human brain can get fooled into religious extremism. We hear about a French man who pretended to be an American boy and even fooled the boy's family. And Sarah is hilariously furious about a woman who lived underground for 500 days. Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/2t972z7tmqJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 706706: Personality Tests, Martha Stewart, and Healthy Ice Cream

Sarah is in a war with her neighbor, and Susie is strategizing ways to torment him. Sarah thinks they're in a competition for who will open their blinds, but mostly she's mad that he doesn't have a sense of whimsy. This is the most low-states feud in history. Sarah says the personality test to which you subscribe says more about your personality than the results of the personality test itself. It's confusing. Basically, if you love astrology, enneagram, or Meyers-Briggs, it says a lot about who you are. Susie hates all of them equally, and that says that she is just an a-hole. We discuss how famous men rebound easily from their public scandals, but Sarah thought of a woman who seems to have avoided consequences for her crimes. We discuss why the hole in the ozone layer seems to be repaired and why it is probably a fluke. We hear why ice cream is actually healthy and nutritionists have been trying to keep it from you for decades.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/2t972z7tmqJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 705705: Therapy Speak, Life Hacks, & Bigfoot's Boobs

Susie goes on an epic rant about people who try to mental health their way out of accountability and the way they use therapy speak to avoid responsibility. She's fuming, people! Sarah explains how a-holes are always going to find ways to be jerks, so this is nothing new. She also shares why comedy commentary is pushing her towards conservatism, and she feels like people need to have more of a sense of humor about human foibles and not be so gee dee sensitive. We debate the Kathy Griffin Trump pic scandal, Roseanne's cancellation, and more. We hear some of the best life hacks, but for once Susie disagrees with Sarah about the best way to cut a cake. We hear from writer and Sasquatch enthusiast Val Brkich about that new footage that has some people convinced of Bigfoot's existence and other people like Sarah even more certain it's all fantasy, and he shocks Susie with some new info about Bigfoot's anatomy. Grab Val's book about Bigfoot and the Civil War!Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/masking-adhd-almond-moms-all-the-greatest-hacksJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 704704: Submarine Sandwiches, Menu Hacks, & Hiding Turtles

Sarah is fueling up for this episode with a party size platter of hoagies, and it is glorious. This isn't the only fun food-related incident today, though. Oh no, we also learn that Sarah loved muffins so much as a child that she ATE THE WRAPPERS as well. She blames this habit on having an "almond mom," and we learn why these moms were common in the 90s. She also laments Eli's abstention from bread and admits she's not cut out for the Keto lifestyle. We hear from two food critics who teaches us how to order from a menu like a pro, and they include some tips we did not see coming. Hear what they have to say about classic foods, the reason soups are overlooked, and why short ribs are for rookies. We strategize the best order in which to eat your food, learn how to talk to servers, and talk crap on people who refuse to share. Plus, we learn why turtles hibernate for several months each year and we are livid about the Dali Lama scandal.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/masking-adhd-almond-moms-all-the-greatest-hacksJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 703703: Pretty Baby, Manslaughter Nightmare, & Boys in Blue

Sarah found out she is a "true summer," so she can't wear the look of Gwyneth Paltrow at her trial, so now she's getting rid of her clothes and embracing her color glow-up. We hear why "silent luxury" is all the rage and ostentation is out. We discuss the Brooke Shields documentary, Pretty Baby, and how she coped with being a child in an adult's world including provocative roles and nudity at a young age, having an alcoholic mother, and the pressure of Hollywood as a child star. Hear why a woman is in jail for three years because she swore and made a gesture with her arm, and Susie is freaked out. We discuss a popular movie from the 90s that focused on the lead actress's nudity and didn't bat an eye at assault from the (male) main character. Susie shares the history of boys wearing blue and girls wearing pink and how medicine, capitalism, and consumerism drove the trend. Finally, we learn about a man who refused to split the cost of medical bills with his partner for the birth of his child, and we are livid.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/is-bigfoot-realJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 702702: Bigfoot Sighting, Sarah's Accident, & Glow-in-the Dark Animals

We discuss Sarah's religious dabbling, and how she's been pretty much every religion on Earth for a minute including once when she had to wear a wig for religion. We hear about the famous Bigfoot video that has been the foundation for Bigfoot lore for decades, and how it has been remastered. Sarah claims the video is proof it's a hoax, while Susie's friend who is a Squatcher (?) says the video confirms their existence. We hear how an impaled bird proved what happened to all the birds in the winter (and for some reason people thought they went to the damn moon for a while). We learn about animals that glow-in-the-dark and why we have no idea why or how that's happening. A helicopter was flown on Mars (but yet the helicopters at those mall kiosks can't fly on Earth for more than a day). Sarah had a VERY momentous occasion in her relationship and Susie thinks it will change everything. We got good news about heart health and longevity, and we celebrate having a party of one late at night while the rest of world sleeps.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/is-bigfoot-realJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 701701: Racism Clickbait, Catholic Spies, & Bert and Ernie's Lifestyle

Susie is going to meet one of her comedy heroes, and she needs Sarah's advice on what to wear, what to say, and how to become best friends with him. We learn about a Catholic group who bought user data to track the online activities of priests and monitor whether they're using dating/hook-up apps. We discuss the idea of the "gay lifestyle," and somehow ending up debating Bert and Ernie power dynamics. Susie describes AI-generated images depicting groups throughout history and the reason the photos do not accurately show how they would behave. We also hear why Russians think Americans are idiots and we all smile too damn much. We discuss culture that most people don't realize is rooted in racism, and whether these things should be "cancelled" or if it's just racism clickbait where white people police each other. In the end, now we know more than when we started, and as GI Joe says, "Knowing is half the battle."Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/700-701Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 700700: Models, Mammoth Meatballs, & Michelangelo's Manhood

700 episodes! It's pretty remarkable that we're still talking and, more importantly, you're still listening! Thank you!!! Sarah was very eager to share some news in the culinary world that has actual animal meat being produced in labs. So she wants to know if vegans/vegetarians will eat it since no animals were killed in the creation of it. We discuss Levi's decision to have model "diversity" by using robot models instead of, you know, actual human beings. We are furious about the principal who was fired because a teacher showed her students Michelangelo's David statue and some morons thought it was obscene. Sarah talks about some new laws that limit social media for kids and we consider whether this is good or will be effective. Plus, we hear why Botox might be limiting emotions of its users.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/700-701Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 699699: Seaweed Blob, Good Old Days, & Broken Sun

Anyone know what happens at cemetaries in New Orleans, because we've heard some things and we're confused and intrigued. Sarah talks about how a piece of the sun broke off and got sucked into a polar vortex, and it's wild. Bad news though, an astroid is headed straight for Earth and we only have twenty years to have Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck solve the problem. Susie saved Sarah and Eli's relationship with a cleaning hack that will prevent future fights. Sarah might become a cat mom and Susie is thrilled. We discuss the gigantic blob of seaweed that is headed for the U.S. and Susie somehow is blaming Walt Disney for it. We hear the science behind why nostalgia is good for you, and how you can take the fast track to the goold old days when you're feeling depressed. And Sarah realized this week she's officially an old lady, and Susie is here for it!Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/698-699Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 698698: Doggone Sad, Thumbs Down, & Digging Holes

We're in the comfort business today because we're losing one of our own. Bo Louise Rice is in her final days and her person is very sad! We know you all can relate to how painful it is to lose a dog, so we hope you'll show Sarah some love. We discuss some crazy things that have happened to us recently with Sarah having a good (!) experience with cops at Target and Susie's husband having the cops called on him! We hear why giving the finger is your god-given right officially in Canada, and we've decided to give more things the thumbs down. We hear about a man who found $550,000 cleaning out his car! We learn about a study about penis growers and show-ers and why scientists think it's important to study. Plus, Susie explains why people are digging holes for no reason.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/698-699Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 697697: Big Bear Buns, Rude Red Carpet & The Disappearing Jet

It's always a good time to have an apology tour (it's kind of our specialty), so we kicked off the episode setting the record straight about our love and affection for our LGBTQIA+ listeners. Susie might've overcorrected because now she thinks everyone should be gay. We debate Hugh Grant's viral red carpet interview with Sarah saying he's a jerk and Susie saying red carpet interviews suck and he probably just wanted a little more substance. Susie talked about the documentary on Jared the former Subway spokesperson who is now in jail. We hear how bears manage to hold their bodily functions for the month's when they're hibernating and it's more disturbing than we were prepared for. There has been a study about the most unsettling noise, and Sarah thinks it's spot on. We learn about the missing Malaysian airliner and why its disappearance is so baffling. Susie gets real judge-y about the cultural obsession with the Vanderpump Rules cheating scandal and wants people to cool their jets about it all.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/697Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 696696: Shoeless Joe, Charlie Chaplin, & Sneaky Sneakers

Today we learn why Susie is feeling nostalgic about the Challenge and Sarah never got full closure after her season. We hear about an author who Susie suspected of misrepresenting scientific facts, who now was found to be a plagiarist, and she feels vindicated in sniffing out a scammer. We discuss the girls basketball team who was forced to play in a boys tournament, won, and then was denied the trophy because they are...girls. Susie talks about a man who hasn't worn shoes in twenty years, and she is not happy about it at all. We discuss the privilege he is leveraging to do this, and we debate why shoes are even necessary. Susie reveals how Reuters caught one company claiming to recycle shoes while it turns out they were just dumping them off for donations and resale. Plus, Susie reveals some unsavory gossip about Charlie Chaplin that is changing our opinion of the film legend.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/695-696Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 695695: Astronaut Shade, Size Matters, & Clown Fear

We kick the show off by hearing why Sarah got KICKED OUT of a McDonald's. Think of how bad you'd have to be to be kicked out of a McDonald's. We hear why Susie made an inappropriate joke while pregnant, and Sarah had to take a field sobriety test. We debate whether oral sex, handjobs, and other explicit acts qualify as sex or not. Sarah reveals why the penis has changed in artwork, and we have some theories about why the size changed dramatically in the last 100 years. For some reason we find out what's in saliva and we play a disgusting game of Would You Rather, where no one really wins. We discuss a NASA astronaut who revealed shocking claims about aliens that have some people thinking he's lost his marbles and other people thinking he's the only person telling the truth. We learn why clowns are such a common phobia and we're surprised to learn it's not really due to childhood clown-related trauma.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/695-696Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 694694: Best Friends, Hiccup Cure, & Social Media Lies

Susie kicks off the show sharing a story about a friend of hers who is using an app to meet new friends, and how hard it is to make friends as an adult. Sarah talks about the idea of a "best friend" and how this is a new phenomenon that is especially espoused by women, and is sort of ridiculous. We learn about people with extreme introversion and are known as "nocturnals" because they adjusted their schedule to sleep all day and stay awake all night to avoid human interaction. We find out why the cure for hiccups exists, but no one knows about it. Susie discusses the TikTok filter that makes you look like your teenage self and her theory about why Generation X and older are emotional about it. We are mad at Tiger Woods for playing a prank where he gave a male golfer a tampon as an insult. And Susie explains why the Be Real app couldn't keep users interested in authenticity.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/693-694Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 693693: Sultry Scenes, Radioactivity, and Perfect Pressure

Sarah shares her birthday tales, which included drunk snowboarding, fireball shots, and a ski lift near miss. It did not disappoint. She also describes how our listeners inspire her to be a better version of herself, which encouraged Susie who is starting to feel like nice gals finish last. We discuss motivations for success, and why Susie's isn't healthy, but possibly effective. Hear why some people think movies should have more sex scenes, and the myriad reasons they have decreased recently. Susie describes her first experience watching a movie that got her hot and bothered and why Road Rules introduced her to porn. We explain why kissing is more erotic than most full sex scenes, at least for women. Sarah talks about a radioactive capsule that went missing in the Australian outback and why it's even worse than finding a needle in a haystack (which, by the way, would take 18 hours according to science). Plus, we have a drunk science session about bananas, x-rays, soda, and boobs. Ep 692692: Big Ball Parenting, Dumped Doll, & Woke Witches

We're kicking March off (or as we like to call it, Fool's Spring) with a story about testicles--yay!!! It turns out men with bigger balls are crappier dads. We debate whether this is a product of low testosterone or some other physical issue or whether it's a societal construct where men with bigger balls just don't think they should or want to be active parents. Either way, we're mad. Susie describes Foreign Accent Syndrome, where after a person has an injury, disease, or traumatic experience they suddently start talking with an accent from a country from which they do not hail. It's one of her favorite maladies, but we find out why it causes more problems than you'd think in terms of relationships. We hear about a reported dead body in a lake that turned out to be a sex doll, and we were having a grand old time until we learned more details about the "body" that are MAJOR red flags. Now we think a crime might actually have occurred after all! Finally, we discuss the decision by the Roald Dahl company to edit his books to remove offensive language.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/691-692Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 691691: Stolen Youth, Big Member, & Dinner at the Zoo

Today's episode is a doozy! Sarah is feeling a little non-commital about making plans, but we're determined to start thinking ahead and making plans to look forward to. We can't let the pandemic ruin the future anymore. We hear about the Stolen Youth documentary about the Sarah Lawrence mind-control cult, and Sarah is having a completely physical reaction about their mental hell. We learn the purpose of beards, and it turns out they are not for keeping your chinny-chin-chins warm. Sarah discusses a zookeeper in Mexico who is accused of EATING the zoo animals. Plus, we debate which zoo animal we would eat if we were in a pinch.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/691-692Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 690690: Gunther's Millions, Unmasking Autism, & Mary Queen of Scots

We have a rebuttal to a keyboard warrior who took issue with our commentary on Hitler's medical history, which is a sentence we never thought we'd write. Susie explains why discussing shame is critical to understanding human behavior. We learn about a dog who inherited $500M when his owner died, and why things are not at all what they appear to be. The documentary Gunther's Millions tells the story of this dog (and it's heirs), his handler, and the strange way depression, a search for meaning, and tax law all play into the story of this fortune. Susie discusses the Volcano documentary that tells the story of a popular tourist attraction that seemed like controled risk turned into a life or death situation for some unsuspecting people on vacation. We talk about a book about autism that argues for the public perception to shift instead of resorting to "traumatic" behavioral therapy for people on the spectrum. We debate the word "trauma" and how it is being used more frequently now as a synonym for discomfort. We hear about scholars who have finally decoded Mary Queen of Scots's letters sent from prison after her cousin Queen Elizabeth I imprisoned her. Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/689-690Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 689689: Elderly Sarah, We Need to Talk About Ezra, & Zoo Mania

We discuss how our problems suddenly seem bearable when we consider switching them for someone else's. Sarah describes her Valentine's Day surprise from Eli and why not everyone should be cracking jokes on a microphone like we do. Sarah got a physical and it turns out she's 100% that old lady, and she does not appreciate the insinuation that just because she's old she's not a big old slut. We discuss how our vaginas are still mysterious even though we've had them our whole lives. Hear why Sarah is mad as a hornet about a comic book movie coming out, and why men seem to live without consequences. We discuss some crazy things happening at zoos, and how if you mess with a tiger you might get the fangs.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/689-690Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 688688: Baywatch Body, Breastfeeding Debate, & Disability Fetish

Susie breaks down the Pam Anderson documentary (produced and directed by our buddy, Ryan White) and the ways she represents the dynamic between men and women culturally. The documentary looks at Pam as a sex symbol, cultural icon, and reflection of gender dynamics in the West. Sarah shares a shocking story about a Baywatch actor who insulted her at a club many years ago. We hear about a woman who was ordered to stop breastfeeding so her ex-husband could maintain equal custody, and we debate whether the judge did the right thing. Sarah explains how women can wield their motherhood as a way to leverage power. Susie talks about a woman in a wheelchair who wants social media platforms to do more to protect her from people with a "disability fetish," and we discuss why we think she's being unrealistic about life online. We learn about the "millennial pause" and "Gen Z shake" and why different generations behave differently online. Ep 687687: Sarah's Marriage Proposal, Divorce Debate, & Buried Alive

Happy Valentine's Day to all who celebrate--and we hope you do because love is the most important thing in the world! And to get in the spirit, Susie is trying to convince Sarah to propose to Eli. Hear what she has to say about that idea, and her answer may suprise you. We discuss a woman who got divorced, but chose to keep her ex-husband's name, and some people are worked up about it. And we consider why the last name debate is so fraught and complicated. We learn about a study where men had to identify parts of a woman's anatomy (including a part that doesn't even exist), and they were very confident and very wrong. Susie explains why she still struggles with the purity culture mindset she grew up in, and how it informs her views on sexuality, women, and modesty. We discuss two examples of people who were wrongly declared dead, and how Susie's fears of being buried alive have been triggered.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/687-688Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 686686: Mind over Murder, LEGO Pain, & Prison Rules

Hear about a docuseries called Mind Over Murder where six people were wrongfully accused of the rape and murder of a woman after five of them confessed to the crime. We explore why people would say they did something they had nothing to do with, why we're all at risk of the same strange weakness, and why humans never realize their own fragility. We discuss a woman who was found in and rescued from a storm drain not once, not twice, but thrice in the last two years, and we theorize what the hell is going on with her. Susie describes the unraveling of the Murdaugh family who were among the most powerful and elite in their town for 100 years, and why, after a boating accident, it all went wrong very quickly. We explain why the Stanford Prison Experiment might not be accurate despite being the most famous psych experiment of all time. Susie describes why the pain of stepping on a LEGO is worse than glass or fire, and Sarah's got a theory about why it might be an emotional pain as well as a physical pain. Plus, we learn why people need subtitles now more than ever before despite "improvements" in technology. Ep 685685: Marie Kondo Mess, Men Problems, & Robot Apocalypse

Hear why Susie plans on becoming a chart-topping singer. Sarah and Susie are planning their ski adventure and Susie really hopes it doesn't involve any...skiing. Susie decides we need a "swear jar" for every time Sarah says the word "Eli," and Sarah is kinda freaked out. We hear about the evolution of Marie Kondo, and theorize why she is doing an about-face on her rigid tidying rules. We discuss an article that asks the question, "What's the matter with men," and consider some societal factors that may be causing men to become less educated, employed, and emotionally stable. Sarah met someone from the future, sort of, and now she's realizing that some of the things he talked to her about are actually coming true. But it's not SpOoOOooOky so much as wild. Ep 684684: Psychic Friends, Amber Alerts, & Tunnel of Hate

Susie informs us about some big changes in the bowling world that bowling alley owners are thrilled about, but professional bowlers think is a real gutter ball. And Sarah claims Eli almost went pro in bowling. We discuss the documentary about Miss Cleo, the "Jamaican" psychic who convinced white people she had the magical ability to answer hundreds of phone calls at once. We learn about the fallout since the Hillsong docuseries came out, and why there's "a lot of money to be made off of poverty." We find out how the Amber Alert came to be, and Sarah is shocked to learn it was named after a person, not a color. Susie describes the conditions for a 200-mile marathon that takes place in a tunnel. We theorize what type of person willingly participates in something so torturous. Ep 683683: Mutant Plants, Metal Coke, & Manly Cars

Today we find out about a type of plant that knows how to count (???), but its plant cousin is a dummy that doesn't know how (so Susie thinks it's going to be a goner). Hear about a documentary that Sarah participated in, but she ended up on the cutting room floor. We discuss ways that humans recover from shame, embarrassment, and, well, being human. Sarah explains why McDonald's Coca-Cola tastes better than other Coke. We learn about a study that determined whether men with smaller penises really do prefer flashy sports cars. We discuss a study that found that people who have trouble sleeping are far more likely to believe in the paranormal (e.g. aliens, ghosts, demons), and the theories for why that might be. Plus, we talk about "fubbing," which is snubbing someone by looking at your phone, and why it's having a huge impact on relationships. Ep 682682: Cougars, Conmen, & the Curse of Chippendales

Susie can't quit thinking about the Bernie Madoff docuseries and his $65 BILLION (with a B!) scam that he ran for 40 years. She thinks we can learn a lot about non-violent sociopaths from his example. She also can't quit thinking about Chippendales (not to be confused with Chip and Dale. And Chip and Dale are not to be confused with Alvin and the Chipmunks) exotic male dancers. She watched the Curse of Chippendales, and apparently those guys have really been through the wringer. You'd never know it from Susie's focus, which is their feet of all things. Sarah is really into this story as her transition to cougar is almost complete. Susie is mad that Instagram even makes users censor breasts in works of art regardless of how "realistic" the body parts are. Is there no limit to the fear of the boob? And we discuss whether you can separate the art from the artist when they've done something despicable like Bill Cosby. Susie attempted to do that by watching an old clip of his stand-up, and she was distrurbed by her reaction. Finally, we learn about a romance novelist who faked her own death and then came back to life and wanted everyone to be fine with it. Ep 681681: Whale Poop, Superhero Accessories, & Gendered Living

Sarah brought a whole lot of poo content, and we are learning so much! We hear why whale poo is basically saving the world, and whales aren't getting enough credit. We loved Free Willy before, but now we love it even more (especially the soundtrack, come on!). We hear why dragonfly ladies have created the perfect way to avoid the annoying male dragonflies that won't take a hint. It's very relatable. Dude dragonflies, she's just not that into you! Hear why Tasmanian Devil moms are savage, lobsters aren't so elegant after all, and the Cats musical had a big problem related to cat bums. Sarah wants to know what kind of superhero accessories we would carry (or sit on, in Susie's case). We learn about a reality show "experiment" that placed boys in one house and girls in the other to observe how they behaved without adults for a week. Ep 680680: Muslim Art, Ric Flair's Wild Life, & People Are Not OK

We have to make a correction about the poop lottery story, and, boy, are we disappointed. We report the results of our poop survey (what's worse: the smell or the sound). We were both sort of shocked by the outcome. We discuss farts for far too long, and we are deeply sorry for so much flatulence content lately. Susie talks about a documentary about Ric Flair, legendary wrestler, and how, even though she doesn't like wrestling, this film is a must-see. That guy lives a wild life and has survived an inordinate amount of insanity. Susie is being a boomer again (kind of) about a lecturer at a university who was fired for showing ancient Muslim artwork because it was seen as Islamophobic. We also discuss a documentary about the 1/6 insurrection, and how it demonstrates the ways people on all sides of the political and cultural spectrum are not ok post-pandemic etc... But we try to think of it from a human psychology point of view rather than one of judgment and the ways fear, vulnerabilities, etc.. can inform our behavior.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/679-680Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 679679: Robot Lawyers, Sneaky Sneakers, & Safe Danger

Hear why Sarah has betrayed the Curly Girl community and she has "hair dysmorphia." We learn about the Don't Pick Up the Phone documentary where a man would pose as a cop on the phone and trick fast food managers into doing strip searches and more to their innocent employees. The "hoax" (nightmare! crime!) went on for years and no one has really paid the price for it besides the victims. We discuss the use of artificial intelligence to make robot attorneys and we are optimistic (uh oh!) about their benefits. We decide robot judges would be a different story though. Sarah explains why high-tops have been getting too much credit regarding their advantages in basketball. Ep 678678: Death, Fever Dreams, & Craziness

It starts out doom and gloomy as we discuss injuries of football players and other public figures. We suggest football should become gentler and involve far fewer items of clothing...you know, for safety. Susie's mom is having health challenges, but that doesn't mean she won't make fun of her, so that's fun. But these conversations were a perfect appeteaser to our larger discussion on aging, happiness, and health. Since it's January and that's what's on everybody's mind, we discuss how to give yourself the best chance of happiness in old age. We find out the seven traits that are the best predictors of a long, healthy, happy life and they are...exactly what every other article has said for the last seven years. We learn how a "death positive" woman who encouraged people to face death with joy reacted to her own mortality. We hear how she threw herself a funeral while she was still living, and brought in documentary crews to document her journey to the other side. But we ended up thinking she wasn't death positive, but just self-absorbed and attention-seeking. It took a real crazy turn! Speaking of crazy, we debate whether you should be "allowed" to use that word of if it's equivalent to the stigmatizing language we've moved away from for people with intellectual disabilities. Plus, Sarah hallucinated that her arms were sticks and Susie can't quit laughing.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/677-678Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

We discuss the Rolling Stone list of the best singers and get worked up about their Celine Dion omission. Susie reveals why her mom questioned her Celine fandom after learning a conspiracy theory on YouTube. We learn behind-the-scenes scoop about Shania Twain and her Man! I Feel Like a Woman video. Then we move into our favorite topic with a huge debate about the worst part of pooping, and we do not agree at all. Is it the odor or the sound? We check in with each other about 2023 goals and resolutions, and it turns out, Susie and Sarah's goals are in complete conflict with each other. So this oughtta be one heckuva year! Susie kicks things off with a poop story for the ages! A woman won $3M and decided to get revenge on someone who mistreated her, and it was really something. We then get some old gossip about Hitler that explains A LOT about his insecurities, but is shocking that most people don't know. We discuss that big ass aquarium that exploded in Berlin and how Sarah was surprised that none of the fish survived. We debate vanity plates, and whether they are ever cool. We learn why commercials are starting to be self-referential, ironic, and irreverent, and why consumers don't want any b.s. anymore. Ep 675675: Global Dreams, Metal Bats, & Streaking

Susie wants to know why streaking was popular for like two minutes, and we would like to bring it back in 2023. Let's do this, people! Sarah explains why public toilets use horseshoe-shaped toilet seats instead of ovals, but we're still confused. This sounds like a man designed a weird toilet seat and everyone just went along with it. We learn about dreams around the world, and how the nightmares we're having are not the same as people in other places. Turns out, our teeth falling out is a distinctly Western thing. We discuss why bats are the spookiest animals and how their voices mimic that of death metal singers. Ep 674674: Strange Names, Liver King, and The Year of Rest

Susie is psyched out of her mind about the Strange Names documentary that features people with unusual, disturbing, or celebrity names. It's so good! We discuss some of the crazy names, why parents name their kids names that will get them bullied, and how a name can determine so much of your life. We also discuss why we mock certain names that certain cultures tend to use (like all the white lady influencers), and what's behind our disdain. We talk about the Harry and Meghan docuseries and why even though Susie loves those two crazy kids, she's a little sick of hearing about their love story (she's just a crumudgeon, that's all). We hear about the "liver king" who grew a huge social media following claiming that his caveman ways were his secret to his phsyique, but really it was, you know, drugs. Hear why Sarah is hoping for a restful 2023, she is not going to be optimistic, and she is learning to go with the flow of life. Finally, we debate the use of fat suits in movies, and whether a smaller actor should play a bigger character. Ep 673673: Nose Armies, B-Hole Evolution, & Produce Production

Breaking news in the science world with an explanation for why we get sick in the winter, and it's not what we thought all along. We've been living a viral lie. Hear why your nose is indoorsy and it's making you sick. We learn the evolution of the b-hole, and we are very thankful that our bodies had the good sense to improve our entrance and exit scenario. Sarah is happy she found someone who lets her groom him like an ape. It's beautiful. Sarah explains why brussel sprouts had a real comeback in 1990 and now we're stuck with them on every bougie menu. Susie's still mad about them though because they are a little too much like cilantro. We find out which fruits and veggies are human-made. We discuss why knowing too much can cause anxiety, and sometimes being a big dumb-y can be comforting. Sarah is pissed about microtransactions, and we get to hear her spiral in real time.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/672-673Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 672672: New Therapy, Killer Nurses, & Casey Anthony

Today we hear about a documentary exploring a different approach to therapy, and Susie wants to know why therapists insist on distancing themselves from their clients. Sarah shares why it actually benefits the client to work through their issues without being given the answers. We hear about a nurse who was killing his patients and we theorize why women tend to use the weapon of poison when they kill. We debate the activists who throw stuff on famous works of art and consider whether that is an effective tool for changing the world. Susie is mad about the Casey Anthony documentary (and somehow that led her to complain about TikTok AGAIN). We try to figure out what the giant stick is that is sticking out of the beach in Florida, and Susie's a little mad Sarah didn't think it was the work of aliens. And we hear why twins are so darn fascinating/creepy. Ep 671671: Mandatory Fun, Monks on Meth, & Popcorn Puke

Sarah salutes a good Samaritan Amazon worker and then she confesses to her secret love of Amazon (despite her previous boycott of the company). We learn about a man who was fired for not having enough fun at work. He sued the company for wrongful termination after they claimed he was a big party pooper. We discuss how we hate required fun and team-building exercises. Sarah tells us about a monastery in Thailand that was raided by the police because they were all hopped up on meth. We theorize why these monks are so into meth when there is perfectly good shrooms and pot that could complement their meditating. We discuss an online debate about whether your family used a "popcorn bowl" for vomiting, and Susie is not ok. Apparently many families use a food bowl for their puke and this seems bizarre and also very very disgusting. But guess whose family did this...Sarah's. Plus, we discuss the amazing Goodnight Oppy documentary and Sarah's Kardashian obsession. Ep 670670: Pepsi Lawsuit, Compulsive Liars, & the Quiet Zone

Susie is singing the praises of the Pepsi, Where's My Jet documentary about a boy who got enough Pepsi points to earn a jet, but Pepsi claimed they were just joking about the jet. Hear what happened when he sued the company and why we're mad about it. We discuss Phil Spector's incredible career in music producing dozens of hits in the 60s and 70s and innovating the way songs are made, but how he ended up in jail for murder. Sarah is more fascinated by his wigs than his music or the murder though. Susie explains why some psychologists are rethinking how they understand compulsive lying and why they think for some people it's similar to Tourette's or addiction. We learn about a room that was created to produce no sound and Susie's annoyed with TikTokkers who claim if you spend time in the chamber that you'll have psychosis or hallucinations. Plus, we learn why Liberace is more amazing than we realized, but he spent a lot of money and time suing anyone who claimed he was gay. Even though he was gay in actuality, he remained closeted for his entire rhinestone-encrusted life. Ep 669669: Sneeze Injury, Leslie Jordan, & Hearing People Are the Worst

Susie wants to know when Sarah realized she was uncensored, but we're pretty sure Susie is just as weird about oversharing. We discuss a woman who didn't want to sit near a crying baby at a fancy restaurant, and we are totally on her side. Kids are not meant for fine dining. We learn about the trans woman who won a beauty pageant and why she is making some TERFs uncomfortable. We hear a cautionary tale about holding in your sneezes, and Susie is pissed about women who pretend to have feminine sneezes. We discuss what hearing impaired people think about hearing people, and learn why we're super annoying. Plus, we memorialize Leslie Jordan, and Susie provides some "old gossip" about his parents and how he was allowed to be his true self. Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/668-669Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 668668: Brain Buckets, Doppelgänger DNA, & Lucy Laughter

Susie watched the Barney (as in the purple dinosaur) documentary and it was a shockingly sad story. We discuss the backlash towards the wholesome content and the effect it all had on its creator and her family. We discuss the science behind when you officially become an adult and the reasons why it's not simply biology, but rather a combination of life experiences and brain development. Hear why music gives us the chills. Susie offers some "old gossip" about Lucy and Desi and their hit show, I Love Lucy, and the reason why Lucy might get too much credit. We learn about a collection of 10,000 human brains and the ethical questions about what we can do with them. Ep 667667: Chicken Binge, Miracle Mermaids, & Persuasion

Hear why Susie's "powder room" is very funny and Sarah's is NSFW. We discuss the implosion of Twitter and the weird devotion of Elon Musk's "musketeers." We need a new assessment of Nick Cannon because that man is not ok. Sarah offers some exciting news about young inventors and shares the amazing things young girls are developing in STEM. Sarah is very annoyed about a man who ate a rotisserie chicken every day for 40 days, and her reasoning is that it's not that hard to eat that much chicken. We learn about "persuasion fatique," which we as a society are all dealing with as politics become more polarized. And we hear about a group of mermaids (!!!) that saved a drowning man, and this is not just Sarah's usual fan fiction! Ep 666666: Satanic Panic, Falwell's Fall, & Stuttering

Today is finally our demonic episode featuring the number of the beast 666! We are so excited to discuss the evils of the Satanic Panic. We learn where the panic started, why Sarah's parents were into all the devilishness, and why Susie now can't listen to Pink Floyd as a result. We hear about Anton LaVey, who started the Church of Satan and the allegations lodged at innocent people about rituals and occult affiliation. We also learn how the panic never really ended, but just morphed into Pizzagate and other conspiracy theories still around today. Susie explains why Jerry Falwell Sr. was in on it, and now his heir is in hot water over a poolboy, threesomes, and a whole lot of hypocrisy. We find out why people have different manners today and we are disclosing a lot of private info about ourselves, and we hear why that has good and bad effects on culture. Plus, we hear about a video on stuttering that made Susie realize how we all need to learn how to be better listeners.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/665-666Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 665665: Childlore, Toilet Destruction, & Penis Preoccupation

We're fresh off our reunion in Chicago, so we discuss our trip, the fun we had with our Brainiacs, and the comedy show in which Susie performed. Sarah is getting us all nostalgic about our childhood by discussing the games kids play, their enduring appeal generation after generation, and what makes them so fun. We learn how the games kids play and things that interest them are consistent, catchy, and kid-created. We learn why men are constantly touching their junk, and we debate whether it's instinctual or cultural. We hear why nose-picking might be way worse for you than we thought. Sarah explains how Japan's oldest toilet endured a fate far worse than just a bad poo situation when the man charged with guarding it ended up causing its demise. Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/665-666Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ep 664664: Trapper Keeper, Reality Show Hell, & Candy Cigarettes

Susie has a new enemy and we're all very excited about it. We are less excited about her husband's recent health scare, and Susie has some tips for you if you're in a similar situation. We discuss the Tree of Life documentary about the Jewish synagogue shooting, and why it was a tribute instead of a "true crime" trope. We hear about the man who invented the Trapper Keeper and why it became a cultural touchstone. Susie discusses a Japanese reality tv show that made us thankful we were on the Challenge instead. We reminisce about candy cigarettes and hear about the shocking statistic about kids who ate (smoked?) them. Plus, Sarah reveals a scandalous detail about her parents that blows Susie's mind. Ep 663663: Shrinking, Slapping, and Swearing

We begin with a warning to candy manufacturers--we're on to you and your smaller fun size candy bars and treats. Who do you think you're fooling? This isn't our first rodeo. We learn about a bird who flew so long that we are starting to think birds are superheroes. Sarah teaches us about humming, which aside from being annoying, it turns out can improve your health in a million ways. We discuss a new sport called slap fighting that is ridiculous and Susie thinks Sarah would be good at it. And we find out why swearing is actually amazing, and provides a lot of benefits to us. Ep 662662: Boomers, Groomers, & Rumors

Susie is mad at one of her favorite authors, so she rants about his boomer views. We discuss a documentary about competitive dog groomers, and Susie explains why she thinks they're similar to professional athletes. We hear some "old gossip" about Jayne Mansfield, and learn why her death saved lives. We debate a New York Times Op-Ed that said therapy isn't for everyone, and going doesn't mean you're necessarily a good person. Susie wants to know if any of Sarah's therapy clients have ever been combative (and it's probably because Susie sounds like she wants to punch her therapist, which doesn't seem like a healthy attitude. lol). We discuss the fishermen who loaded their fish with weights to cheat in a contest, and we discuss people who *ahem* cheat and then want to "take the money and run." Plus, Susie discusses the rise in online "cults" and why the culture right now makes conspiracy theories more appealing. Ep 661661: Pavlov Exposed, Gamer Identity, & Online Harassment

Happy Halloween, Brainiacs! Today we're getting spoooooky. We hear why the story of Pavlov, his dogs, and that damn bell are not at all accurate, and we've been living a lie. We hear why "gamer identity" makes them more prone to bigotry and radicalization. Plus, Sarah explains what it's like to be harassed online, how it makes you see people differently overall, and why it's way more common than we realized. And she offers specific techniques for dealing with the feeling that the whole (online) world is against you. And in honor of Halloween, Susie tries to talk Sarah into dying her hair black again. Ep 660660: Facts of Life, Lottery Losers, & Purse Mystery

Susie is worked up today! First she insisted on delving into some "old gossip" about Frank Sinatra that blew Sarah's mind. Susie's also mad at Spotify and Sarah is offended. We discuss a documentary about a murder on a submarine that gave Susie literal nightmares. We hear what it's really like to go on Jeopardy! and it might not be as good as you'd think. We debate whether free, crowdsourced info like Wikipedia is beneficial or problematic, and why the truth can be expensive. Susie explains why book sales are so mysterious and scholars aren't able to access the info. We hear about a poker scandal that has us fuming, the history of purses, and Sarah admits to having something very witchy in her bag.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/659-660Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
