Planning a Launch That Puts Your Course on the Map w/Bevin Farrand
We're guaranteed to hit a ceiling at some point if we're just trading hours for dollars. We have to stop limiting ourselves to just one income stream, especially if that stream depends on our constant attention. Online courses are a key way for entrepreneurs to make money with relatively little input, because once they're created we can continue to sell them for years to come. That being said, for the best results we have to think about our marketing strategies. How can we promote our courses effectively, so we can make money from the same content over and over again? Is there a way to make our launches more seamless? In this episode, CEO of Collaborate.Work, Bevin Farrand shares the secrets to a successful course launch. Have an overarching plan. It's easier to shift things around when you know what you're going to do. -Bevin Farrand 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode The importance of knowing what we're working towards: When creating a product, it's vital to have an overarching goal in mind. Be conscious of what's being created and what we can expect to see as a result. How to stop leaving money on the table: Every piece of communication we share about our products brings in revenue, so by forgetting to send even one email, we're losing money. To combat this, plan communication strategies in advance. Planning doesn't mean we'll never miss anything, but it does make it less likely. How to build a buzz around our courses: To generate attention for our launches, the content we share in the build-up needs to tell a story. Seeding the product hooks our audience so by the time we launch, we've already got willing customers. Guest Bio- Bevin Farrand is the CEO and Head Cat Herder of Collaborate.Work, which works with small business owners, entrepreneurs, and mid-size corporations to get their ideas out the door and into the world. Are You Stuck in the Momentum Trap?
The feeling of being busy fills most of us with a sense of accomplishment, but we need to remember that constantly being busy doesn't always mean our businesses are growing. In fact, most of the time it's the exact opposite. The momentum trap tricks us into believing we need to work round the clock to see results, but that only holds us back. When we dedicate all our business hours to client work, we lose time that could have been spent building authority in our markets. How can we pull ourselves out of the momentum trap and get to a place where our businesses succeed without needing constant tweaking? Can we ever reach a point where our businesses generate revenue without our input? In this episode, I share how to escape the momentum trap that keeps our businesses in one spot. The momentum trap is sustaining what you already have. Spend your time growing so you systematically get bigger results. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode Break the cycle of spending hours coming up with one-on-one solutions for clients. Acknowledge that tons of consumers are facing the same challenge and create one piece of content to serve them all. We're never going to be the only entrepreneurs in our space, but that doesn't make what we do any less valuable. Once we believe our uniqueness is what separates us from others in our areas of expertise, we can work on creating something sellable. Date-driven content limits the reach of our products. Instead of creating solutions to date-specific problems, focus on finding a frustration people experience all year round.

The Impact of Clutter on Our Mindsets and Emotional States
When we're surrounded by cluttered countertops and messy living spaces, it can take a toll on our emotions and our minds. Often, we end up feeling overwhelmed by the mammoth task of clearing it all, unsure of where to even begin. That being said, the process of decluttering a home is about more than a cleaner house. When we don't have the option of hiding behind hours of tidying, we're forced to deal with what's really going on in our lives. Cleaning the house and organizing gives us an opportunity to decide what truly makes us happy. Why hold onto things that make us feel anything less than amazing? What does clutter tell us about how we feel? How do we decide what to keep and what needs to go? In this episode, Founder of Motherhood Simplified, Krista Lockwood shares how to declutter our homes and our lives. Strip away the unnecessary objects you're holding onto, so you can spend more time with the things you love. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode Why tidying is about clearing both internal and external baggageWhat's going on around us physically is almost always a reflection of what we're dealing with internally. Be mindful that decluttering is an emotional experience, and when we free up space in our homes, we also free up space in our minds. How fear of lack holds us back from a decluttered spaceWhen we hold onto items due to fear of not being able to afford them in future, we're tapping into a scarcity mindset. Change the narrative by asking "what is this taking from me?" rather than "what if I can't get this later on?" If we're sacrificing joy by keeping something, it's simply not worth it. What we should be removing from our space todayWhen we start our mornings feeling like nothing in our closets fits us or makes us feel good about ourselves, that sets a negative tone for the rest of the day. We have to stop holding onto things that don't make us feel our best. Guest Bio- Krista Lockwood is the Founder of Motherhood Simplified, where she teaches decluttering for moms who don't want to be full blown minimalists. In 2013, she and her husband moved from Alaska to Florida with only one suitcase each. While she doesn't believe you need to go that extreme, she has been able to master the balance of having enough, but not too much. Krista strongly believes we all have what it takes to create the lives and homes we want, no matter what that looks like. On top of her courses offered on decluttering, Krista is the host of the Motherhood Simplified Podcast. Breaking Limiting Beliefs in Your Finances w/Sherri Somers
Far too often, we're held back from pursuing great opportunities because we're focused on what's in our bank accounts, and not what's in our hearts. If we see opportunity only through the lens of financial scarcity, and not faith, we'll always feel like there isn't enough money. Our mindset around money has to shift from one of fear and lack, to a mindset of openness and positivity. Easier said than done, but it is possible! It starts with training ourselves to believe there is abundance all around us. How can we stop letting the numbers in our bank accounts dictate our business moves? What is the spirit of awareness and how will it boost our businesses? In this episode, Revenue Master Coach, Sherri Somers shares how to overcome a mindset of financial lack, so that we let faith guide our dreams instead. Success is all about the right mindset. If you condition your mind, the practical stuff comes naturally. -Sherri Somers 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode How to make moves based on mindset, not money The second we make moves based on the number in our bank accounts, we become inconsistent and less effective. It's better to lead with mindset, so we're not focused on what's lacking. How to identify opportunities for connecting to human capital There is always someone in our audience who knows how to help us get to the next level. If we're too focused on not having enough money, we'll miss out on the human capital we can tap into for free. How to handle lack of support from loved ones Sometimes our loved ones will be slow to support our dreams, and it can take a toll on our drive. We should never take it personally or interpret it as a sign not to go after our dreams. Their reservations are based on their fears, not our abilities. How to Reignite Your Creative Passion with a Niche Side Hustle w/Stacey Ogden
One of the ways we create a more fulfilling and joyful life is through a career that we're passionate about. That said, it can be difficult to get excited about the work we do when it feels like an obligation or a chore. When we actively choose to do something, we will feel fired up for it more consistently. Having a side hustle is a great way to refresh our love for what we do in a meaningful way. To make it even better, we need it to be specialized or niched down. How do we go beyond something general, to a side hustle in a great niche? Why does this help us feel more fulfilled at work? In this episode, CEO of Side Hustle Teachers and Founder of the Edupreneur Academy, Stacey Ogden shares how to start a niched-down side hustle that reignites our passion for work. Don't make the mistake of trying to talk to everybody. Your business should be what you want it to be, not just what it can be. -Stacey Ogden 3 Things We Learned From This Episode How to narrow our focus to only the people we're excited to serveMany people struggle with wanting to help everyone. But if we want to create successful businesses, we have to narrow down our focus because it helps us connect with people who really love what we do. How to stop apologizing for not helping everyoneTo create a niche, we have to narrow down the group of people we want to serve until we have a clear picture of our ideal client. Once we've done that, we have to be unapologetic about what we offer and what we don't. How to build a referral network to help the people who aren't in our nicheIt can be difficult to say no when someone outside our niche asks for our assistance, but we can still help the client without broadening our scope. Building a referral network allows us to say "Yes" by introducing other products and services, without getting off track in our side hustle. Guest Bio- Stacey Ogden is the CEO of Side Hustle Teachers and founder of the Edupreneur Academy. She has built a community of more than 4,000 educators supporting each other on their entrepreneurial journeys and helped dozens of teachers start and grow profitable side hustles, all while maintaining her full-time teaching job. The Best Ideas Come From Boredom w/Daniel Harmon
How can we create great content that not only sells a product, but makes a massive impact on our audiences? When we think of memorable marketing, most of us are likely to feel overwhelmed. How do we even begin to craft something that people resonate with, for years to come? Most of the time, the best ideas come from the moments we separate ourselves from daily tasks and allow our minds to wander. In this episode, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Harmon Brothers, Daniel Harmon joins me to discuss how memorable marketing campaigns come to life. There is so much value in boredom. Some of the best ideas come from white space. -Daniel Harmon 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode Become the customer To market a product the right way, we need to use it ourselves to see what sets it apart. We have to become genuinely passionate about it. Remember, nothing sells better than the truth. Relax The best ideas tend to come to us when we're relaxed. Do enough work beforehand so that when we're in a state of relaxation, our brains can fill in the blanks. Go out and experience culture When we're passionate about what we do, it's easy to slip into a cycle of only consuming information related to our businesses. Go out and see what the audience is doing; otherwise, we risk repeating what everyone in our space is already doing. Guest Bio- Daniel Harmon is the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Harmon Brothers, the advertising agency behind the most viral ads in internet history. Unlocking The Power of Music w/Vered Benhorin
There is so much fear and uncertainty in our current reality that it's easy to be caught up in a panic, but we should be using this time to take stock of our lives and our businesses as they are, and how we want them to be. Is it possible to make the most of this period? While it's normal to feel worried about the future, it's also important for us to live in the moment and think about how we want to look back on this time. How can we build memories for our children so they can remember this period? By choosing to slow down, assess our goals and embrace the changes we're going through, we can make quarantine something to remember for the right reasons. On this episode, music therapist and Founder of veredmusic.com, Vered Benhorin shares how to make the most of life in quarantine. Do your best to create memories of this time with your children- and not just through photos and videos. Take a few moments to improvise vocally and create songs for your children. -Vered Benhorin 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode Take a moment to assessWith the world on pause, we finally have a moment to think deeply about who we are. Take advantage of the lull we're going through to assess where we are, and where we want to be. Bond through musicMusic is a great way to form bonds with the people closest to us, so take a moment each day to improvise vocally. Sing a little song about our current reality; our kids will remember this for years and may even pass it on to their own children. Embrace the changeWhile the changes we're seeing in the world are unnerving, it's times like these that force us to take our businesses to the next level. Instead of trying to get back to the way things were, use this time to adapt to our new reality and keep moving forward.
The Roadmap to Releasing Stable Misery w/Dr. Lynyetta Willis
When sadness becomes a daily, persistent experience that isn't dramatically terrible, it can turn into stable misery. We can get so used to being unhappy, it becomes a bearable normal, even though it's not healthy or fulfilling. The good news is, we do have the power to move ourselves out of this place, and we can make our lives more fulfilling and joyful. But until we recognize and honor the things that need to be healed, they will keep showing up in our lives and impact how we show up in all our relationships. In order to get out of stable misery, we need to be willing to dive into the things that trigger us, and work on moving towards joy step-by-step. How can we identify stable misery in ourselves? Why should we explore the things that trigger us? In this episode, psychologist and family empowerment coach Dr. Lynyetta G. Willis, joins us to discuss the tools we can use to overcome triggers and unhealthy patterns. Anything that you're avoiding in your own personal journey is going to inevitably in some way, shape or form, be passed on to your kids. -Lynyetta Willis 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode The 4 Horsemen of Parenting Pain, blame, shame and avoidance are some of the negative experiences we might have faced in childhood. These things can make us feel unworthy, not good enough, and thinking that our voices aren't important enough. These horsemen will gallop with us into adulthood and even into parenthood and need to be addressed. Going from sadness to joy is a process, not a sudden change Getting out of stable misery is not like a light switch, it's more of a dimmer switch. We're not going to go from stable misery to complete happiness in one go. Instead of thinking about completely getting out of misery, it's about taking one step each day to bring us closer to joy. Deal with the trigger internally, not externally Unless we deal with the thing that's bothering us, it will weigh us down like a rock and just get heavier the more we avoid it. Dealing with triggers doesn't mean addressing them externally, it's more about dealing with them internally. It's more about not ignoring why it's coming up and why it's triggering us.
Pitching Yourself is an Act of Giving, Not Selfishness w/Amelia Roberts
Many women are hesitant to pitch themselves to be on podcasts because they fear they may not be welcomed, or that they don't have the right stories to share, and this is especially true for women of color. Let's face it, it's difficult to compliment ourselves, so how can we overcome that? And for those of us who do have a platform, how can we encourage more women to feel more comfortable with pitching us? On this episode, Visibility Strategist and Relationship Facilitator, Amelia Roberts shares why it's so important for everyone to share the information within themselves, and how to pitch our stories. 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode Do the mindset work So often, we hold back from sharing our ideas because we aren't sure they're enough. A great way to combat this is by hiring a coach, someone who can help us sort through good ideas and those that need tweaking, and who can hold us accountable to taking action. Do the research To be featured on a podcast, do some research on the audience. Understand what they're struggling with, and pitch with that in mind. If we know we have a solution to a common problem, we're the perfect candidate to share our stories. Create an inclusive environment For those of us who do have a platform to share stories, it's important to create a culture where everyone feels comfortable pitching to us. Do some research to find out how to serve those who aren't pitching to us. Guest Bio Amelia Roberts is a Visibility Strategist and Relationship Facilitator, and Founder of Solutions by Amelia. How a Photographer Successfully Shifted Her Business in a Time of Uncertainty w/Michelle Brewster
Many of our Boss Moms run businesses that require them to meet clients in person. If your business is a face-to-face, belly-to-belly operation, the covid-19 pandemic has forced you to close doors and lose your bread and butter business. The good news is there is a way to keep our businesses going and income coming in if we pivot and shift what we create, promote and sell. Photographers are one of the most impacted professional groups, and one business owner managed to shift her photography operation to suit new consumer needs and challenges, create income and earning opportunities for fellow photographers. How can we use this time to focus on what can move the needle in our businesses? What business lessons have we learned during this time? In this episode, I'm joined by photographer, entrepreneur and creator of the Swaddle Pro, Michelle Brewster. We talk about pivoting in a hard hit industry. Even in this time, we can still show up virtually and help our clients. -Michelle Brewster 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode How coronavirus will shape new businesses Many people are going to emerge from this with newfound hobbies, interests and skills; and even with a reignited passion for a creative activity. These skills can become the foundation of brand new businesses. Why this time can help us find focus Quarantine can help us focus and notice things when it comes to our children's education. This can also apply to our businesses. Many products are just not sellable right now so we need to focus on where we can get results. This time gives us the space to intensify on what's going to get us results right now. The importance of showing up virtually Even if we can't be in the same room as clients and customers, we can still show up virtually for them, drive value and make an impact in people's lives in meeting their challenges.
How to Create Sellable Products When You Have Kids Running Around
With everything that's happened in the world in the wake of COVID-19, a lot of us have gotten stuck in a rut and having our kids home all the time has taken a toll on our creative processes. However, to create sellable products, we have to find ways to jolt ourselves out of that foggy state of mind. How can we kickstart our creativity during this period? Is it even possible to run a business smoothly in-between home-schooling our children and keeping them entertained? While we have to give ourselves grace in this time, at the end of the day, we have businesses to run and things to do. On this episode, we discuss how to create sellable products while we're trapped in survival mode. Having our kids around all the time can be very distracting. Try the 10-minute method: brainstorm for just 10 minutes at a time and see what sparks of creativity you get. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things You'll Learn in this Episode Stay creative by breaking brainstorming sessions up into 10-minute periods. A lot of us are struggling to get good quality sleep at the moment, but to be creative as possible, we have to make sure we're getting enough rest. Take naps with the kids or download an app with sleep stories. Once we've created a product, it's important we keep it as simple as possible. Now more than ever, people are easily overwhelmed and anything that seems complicated will struggle to sell.
The Secret to Habit and Routine Formation For Moms Who Love to Work w/Allison Braasch
This time has been challenging for many of us Boss Moms because we're out of our normal routines, and we've experienced the frustration of dealing with altered, shifted and even broken routines. Routines are incredibly valuable to our performance, and when we don't have them, things can be incredibly hard for our children and even for us. We need a structure to rely on, keep us moving forward and even to give us some freedom. Why are routines so important to the way we tick as parents, business owners and families? What are the 4 core aspects of building an effective and personalized working routine as a working mom? In this episode, blogger, speaker and founder of I Swear I Love My Kids, Allison Braasch, talks about her WAKE system and how she uses it to help moms create routines that work for them. Psychologically, having a routine helps us get through certain things. Knowing we have a routine to fall back on helps us breathe. -Allison Braasch 3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode How routines lead us to more freedom and creativity Routines are as much for parents as they are for our kids because it gives us something to rely on. Getting a routine down is the first step, once it's ingrained in us and our kids, we can now start to alter and create moments of freedom. It can give us the space to show creativity, initiative and confidence. Why routines need to be formed around our individuality Before habit and routine formation, we need to start with reading the kind of people we are. Everyone functions differently, so we all need routines that work with who we are and how we want to be held accountable. It's important to find out how you respond to expectations internally and externally, and then we can create a routine that makes sense for us around that. Why space for our own mental health matters right now Especially at a time like this, when our kids are learning from home and everyone is more confined, our mental health as parents is so important. We need to have time for ourselves to recenter and refocus, and we can condition our kids to give us that time. Guest Bio- Allison is a blogger, speaker and entrepreneur. How to Push Forward When the World is on Pause w/Emily D. Baker
The COVID-19 crisis has put a pause on all aspects of our lives; our children's school schedules and daily routines, our habits and how we operate from day-to-day, and of course, our businesses. The pause doesn't mean we have to stop completely. We can keep moving forward if we learn how to navigate our new reality. If we focus our energies correctly, this can be a great launching pad for business growth. Where should we be focusing our energies right now? How can we regain some control over our lives during the pandemic? On this episode, lawyer for online businesses and host of the Get Legit Law & Sh!t podcast, Emily D. Baker, shares how to push forward while the world is on pause. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Focus on the foundation So often, we neglect the foundational work of our businesses because it doesn't feel fun. Now that we have more time on our hands, we can channel our energy into vital foundational elements like accounting and legal paperwork. Keep making money A lot of business owners feel uncomfortable about continuing to operate during the crisis, but we have to give ourselves permission to make money. While we definitely have to evaluate our strategies and acknowledge what's going on, there's no reason why we shouldn't adapt to the times and keep making a profit. Control what can be controlled We have very little control over any form of natural disaster or pandemic, so instead of trying to control something out of our hands, we should be focusing our attention on the small things we do have power over, like our daily schedules. Control what can be controlled, and release the rest of it. Guest Bio- Emily D. Baker is the badass lawyer for online business and the host of the popular Get Legit Law & Sh!t podcast. Positive Parenting: How to Handle Tantrums & Help Our Kids Process Their Emotions w/Lindsay Ford
With everything going on in the world right now, one of the biggest changes and challenges parents are facing is having their children at home. Our kids are also dealing with changes to their daily schedules and activities, which is overwhelming and leading to more tantrums and emotional outbursts. When our children experience negative emotions, we need to be equipped to help them process what they are feeling in a constructive and positive way. What is positive parenting and why is it such a constructive approach for both children and parents? How do we teach our kids that expressing their negative emotions can be healthy? How do we set the household culture and mindset around emotions? On this episode, parenting coach and positive parenting expert, Lindsay Ford, talks about the importance of being proactive, not reactive when our kids throw a tantrum. Tantrums are an emotional outlet and sometimes it's okay to let them happen. They will get through the tantrum and it teaches them to be emotionally resilient. -Lindsay Ford 3 Things We Learned From This Episode How to handle a tantrum Recognize the signs, and notice the build up of emotion. If we're aware of the precursors of the tantrum, we can mitigate it and validate their feelings which helps them feel better. Lindsay shares ways to help our kids through a tantrum. What is positive parenting? Positive parenting is about treating our kids with respect, not putting blame or shame on them, and remembering that they do better and behave better when they feel better. When they express their emotions, we shouldn't make them feel like emotion cannot be tolerated because that creates negativity. Parents also need to mitigate their emotions Sometimes as parents, we need to put ourselves in time out and be the ones to give ourselves space to process and deal with our own emotions. We're much more effective as parents when we're calm, than when we'll be when we're reacting in the moment. Learn practical tips to help you maintain your calm in the episode. Guest Bio- Lindsay Ford is a parenting coach, certified in Positive Discipline. She helps moms interpret what their child is really saying when they act out and gives them the strategies they need to restore a sense of calm and cooperation back into their homes. How to Build Stronger Relationships with Other Women w/Marta Spirk
As women entrepreneurs, we are often shocked to find that collaboration over competition takes work, but as long as we become more mindful of ourselves, that doesn't need to be a problem. Why is it so important to understand what makes us different from the other women in our space? Can we ever completely get rid of feelings of jealousy we may have towards all the successful ladies in our lives? On this episode, women empowerment coach, Marta Spirk shares how to build stronger relationships with other women business owners. Most of the time, feelings of competitiveness with other women come from a lack of understanding about how unique we are as individuals. -Marta Spirk 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Understand what makes us unique (11:57- 13:35)A lot of the time, when women compete with each other, it's because we've been trained to think we're all the same and need to prove why we're better than one another. The truth is, we are all unique. We have to understand what makes us different from other women entrepreneurs, not to prove we're better, but to see where our distinct talents lie. Become more aware of reactions (15:12- 16:31)Most of us have had a moment when we've been jealous of another woman's success and sometimes the successful woman in question is a close friend. The truth is, we will probably always have pangs of jealousy from time to time. The trick is to notice when we're doing it and being mindful of not acting on our thoughts. Stop looking at other people (18:48 - 19:30)We can't change other people, so stop trying to! Instead of focusing on other women's achievements and lives, we have to start looking at our own. This can improve our gratitude for what we already have. Guest Bio- Marta Spirk is a writer, podcaster and woman empowerment coach. How to Improve Your Marriage By Working On Yourself First w/Rachel Ballard
As busy moms and business owners, so many things need to get done and as a result, our marriages slide down the priorities list. Why do so many couples end up feeling more like roommates and logistical partners rather than romantic partners? How can we start improving our marriages on our own? How do we rekindle fun and intimacy in our relationships? On this episode, marriage strategist Rachel Ballard shares on the importance of prioritizing your relationship and how to get back on track if you and your spouse are in a rut. Being in a relationship and fixing your marriage is a job on some level. -Rachel Ballard 3 Things We Learned From This Episode It's important to prioritize our marriages the way we do our parenting (05:11 - 07:20) Our society focuses on how important children should be and that makes us prioritize them over our marriages. The truth is, our marriages also need focus and attention, and if we neglect it, the whole household suffers. Kids are happier and more well adjusted when they're parents are happy, not where we're putting them first above our partners. Making our marriages better doesn't have to directly involve our partners (09:41 - 11:15)In order for us to be happier in our marriages, we need to be happier individually. We have to learn the skill of making ourselves happy and exercise it. True happiness comes from working on ourselves, liking ourselves and being nicer to ourselves. Sometimes we need to break the ice to rekindle the romance (16:42 - 18:21 )Taking the first step to rekindling the romance in your marriage can be scary, and an icebreaker helps. Rachel developed a resource to give ideas for what you can text to your spouse to get the positive vibes, and banter going. It can initiate the types of conversations and interactions that will improve your marriage. Guest Bio- Rachel Ballard is a real-world, tell-it-like-it-is, marriage strategist and creator of the How To Like Your Husband Podcast. Stop Making So Much Content and Follow This Schedule Instead
The typical marketing rule is to churn out a lot of stuff, but I believe putting out too much content can actually diminish our effectiveness. We need to define down our content, especially at a time like this. What type of content should we be posting right now? What is an easy social media content formula that can allow us to have impact, connect and sell our products? In this episode, we discuss a more beneficial content schedule and content sequence that we can follow, and how it will boost our businesses. Don't make so much so much content, don't just keep teaching, we want to create authority and leadership, and it's not done by just putting stuff out there, it's about refining what you're putting out there. -Dana Malstaff Takeaways We need to make less content and repeat what we're saying more often. Make content that is relevant to pulling people in with what's happening in the world. Now is the best time to build authority, community and connection, not put out as much content as possible.

Boss Dad Spotlight: Learning To Effectively Advertise On Social Media w/Rick Mulready
Social media advertising is vital for online businesses, so all entrepreneurs should be looking into it. Is there a right time to start advertising? What happens if we don't have a big online following yet? Do we need to be hesitant to use retargeted advertising? On this episode, host of The Art of Online Business podcast, Rick Mulready, shares how to advertise effectively on social media. It's never too early to start using ads. Start running them as soon as you have an audience. -Rick Mulready 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Start using ads as soon as possible (20:07- 21:58)As soon as we have a social media presence and an audience, we should be leveraging ads. There's no time like the present to start using ads if we have an audience. Build an audience (22:41- 24:01)Those of us new to a platform may not have established audiences yet. The best way to build these audiences is by doing Facebook Lives, which we can later use as advertisements to build our following. Rethink advertising (20:07- 21:58)A lot of people are hesitant to use retargeted advertising, because there's a common belief that this is an invasion of privacy. We have to shift our mindsets away from that - advertising isn't going anywhere, so we may as well provide useful information to the right people.
How to Ensure Your Opt-In Brings You Business
Opt-ins are a vital part of us building relationships with more people and growing our businesses. Why are they so effective? How do we make sure our opt-ins are aligned with what we sell? On this episode, you'll learn about what it takes to create effective, highly converting opt-ins. Getting people on your email list and nurturing them creates a much longer relationship. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Recognize that your opt-in isn't part of your identity and if it doesn't work, it's not because of you, it's just that you didn't position it correctly. Approach opt-ins as a place for testing. You don't need to learn something to teach your opt-in, it has to be something you're already familiar with. On the thank you page, ask them to do something discussing next steps.
How to Find Balance Between Entrepreneurship & Creativity w/Naphtali Roberts
Many people who identify as true artists struggle with the idea of making money off doing what they love and being called entrepreneurs. How do we start to shift in how we see creative entrepreneurship? Why is it so important to rethink, renew and realign our identities around what we can or cannot build and be? What are some of the dangers of the limiting beliefs creatives have? On this episode, business coach and mindset ninja for creatives, Naphtali Roberts, shares how she helps artists feeling scared to sell what they create get rid of limiting beliefs, and build thriving and aligned businesses. The heart of a thriving creative business is being consistent, having priorities and having systems. -Naphtali Roberts 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Don't get limited by labels (08:14 - 10:26)It's easy for entrepreneurs to fall into the trap of the negative hustle, where they are working themselves to the bone to fit into the "struggling artist" identity. It's also easy to be so afraid of the entrepreneur label because it feels like so much more is required. Very often, all it takes is a change in mindset. For example, a freelancer and an entrepreneur are the exact same thing with a different label. Creativity and good business practices can work well together (17:21 - 21:30)Many creatives have the belief that good creatives can't be good business owners because they have to be flighty, struggling and in pain all the time. They believe that there has to be sadness and pain and that there can't be logic and consistency. This in turn drives sadness and depression that's associated with creative people because those beliefs influence the creative's unhealthy habits and practices. Selling what you create isn't selling out (10:30 - 11:57)Creative people are so often conditioned around the fear of selling out, that they feel like putting a price on what they create means they aren't a true artist. Ultimately, what we earn from what we make is a reflection of the time and energy we're putting into something. Guest Bio- Naphtali is a business coach, "mindset ninja" for creatives, systems expert and Go-To Gal for born creatives and artists who want to Thrive doing what they love without all the hustle, bustle and burnout. She is a mother, wife to a creative freelancer in the entertainment industry, and host of The Thriving Creative Podcast and Licensed Therapist. When you connect with someone who has a similar perspective to you, it makes your relationship easier. -Evie Granville Building new relationships with other parents, and maintaining existing ones, can be tricky when we have different parenting styles, so it's important to know what type of mom we are. How can we find out our parenting type and should we avoid other types of parents altogether? How can we set boundaries with other parents without offending them? On this episode, educators and co-hosts of the Modern Manners for Moms and Dads podcast, Sarah Davis and Evie Granville, share how to navigate friendships with other parents. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Take a quiz to find out what kind of mom you are (05:50- 07:37)There are three main 'types' of parents: self-preservers, accommodators and protectors. While we may not adhere to our own 'types' all the time, knowing which category we fall into can make it much easier for us to understand why we make certain decisions and be more understanding of others. Spend time with like-minded parents (12:00- 14:59)Being friends with people who have a similar parenting style to our own can make spending time with each other much easier. Knowing what type of parent we are can help us create bonds with people who fit into our lives more easily. That being said, don't cut off people with a different parenting style, just be mindful of the differences. Set boundaries (33:28- 36:22)When our children are visiting their friends, it's important for us to know and share our boundaries with other parents. For example, if we're not happy with our kids being in a house with a gun, we need to raise that. Setting boundaries is often something we avoid because we don't want to offend other parents, but there's nothing to worry about if we handle every situation respectfully. How to Make Money From Affiliate Marketing w/Jill Stanton
Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money, but most people don't know how to get started. Is it possible to be successful in affiliate marketing if we don't already have a huge audience? How can we find brands interested in partnering with us? Is it ever worth recommending goods and services we wouldn't use ourselves? On this episode, co-founder of Screw The Nine To Five, Jill Stanton, shares how to make money through affiliate marketing. In affiliate marketing, you don't even need to 'sell' anything. You're just suggesting products you love. -Jill Stanton 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Get an audience (19:48 - 20:42)To be successful at affiliate marketing, what we need is a group of people who follow us and listen to our opinions. This group doesn't need to be huge; on the contrary, a small group can be easier to influence. Research and reach out (21:35 - 22:48)Finding affiliate programs doesn't need to be complicated. All we need to do is type the product name and the word 'affiliates' into Google. However, if we don't find any results, we can also reach out directly to business owners and ask if they would be interested in implementing a referral fee for any followers we send their way. Recommend good things (26:37 - 27:19)Trust is the currency of affiliate marketing, so we should only be suggesting good products/services and ideally, things we've used ourselves. Don't compromise integrity by going for quick cash. Guest Bio- Jill Stanton is the co-founder of Screw The Nine To Five where she helps people quit their jobs, start online businesses and get them past the $100,000/year mark. How to Leverage the Nurture to Convert System
One thing that will be driving all the action we take this year is the belief that anything in our business can be templatized or built into a framework, and that includes how we build relationships and convert people. What is the nurture to convert system and how does it work? How can it help us run a smoother business process? On this episode, I share more on the new system we have developed and how you can leverage it to make your business more efficient and successful. The nurture to convert system is a revolutionary way of systematizing how we engage online and with our prospects and our audience. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Everything can be distilled down to a method, framework or template. If people don't know what our opinions, beliefs and methodologies are, it's hard for us to become well-known or an authority in that area. We need to be clear on what we want to do with our audience. We need to feel like we have a congruent life and business, so we don't feel like there's a tug of war for our time and attention.
Building An Online Community
Building and growing an engaging community organically is one of the most important parts of running a business today. What are the two key things we need in order to start creating a community? What does it take for the sense of community to take place in the virtual space? On this episode, you'll learn about the engaged community framework, and how to implement it in your business. In today's business world, community has to be part of our brand. It's so important to not just sell things but to connect people. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things We Learned From This Episode You need to stop putting pressure on yourself to have all the answers; your community has all the answers and they are yearning to contribute, so let them. A post is just a gateway so that real conversations can happen. Getting people to answer "yes" or "no" is just the first level of engagement. After that, we can allow for deeper connections to happen by having conversations. One of the key parts of building a community is creating a feeling of belonging, so that people can feel accepted, heard and understood. How to Go From Employee to High-Value Consultant w/Amy Rasdal
Many people are eager to escape the stress and unfulfillment of climbing the corporate ladder, but fear that they may not have the same income and level of impact. What they might not realize, is that consulting is a great way to make the switch from employee to high-value entrepreneur. What are the advantages of consulting over having a corporate job? How do we get a steady stream of clients? How does consulting differ from coaching? On this episode, business consultant and founder of Billable at the Beach® Amy Rasdal, shares on getting started in the consulting world and how to turn consulting gigs into a steady business. To build a successful consulting business, you have to break beyond your circle and immediate network, and start developing the outreach to build new relationships. -Amy Rasdal 3 Things We Learned From This Episode A consulting business is only as healthy as its pipeline (07:08 - 08:23)Many consultants are able to find success early, but the work starts to slow down because the circle of people who know you have already hired you. The key to keeping the business growing is a steady pipeline, which we build by going out of our immediate circle, developing an outreach strategy and following through on it. Being a present parent and a successful professional are not mutually exclusive (17:29 - 19:04) It often feels like we're forced to pretend that we don't have children in order for us to be able to excel professionally, or that they have to be invisible. More people need to see that we can have both children and a great mind. Consulting can be an impactful and a more lucrative alternative to the corporate ladder (25:07 - 29:07)Becoming a consultant allows us to have more impact than we would as employees, while we also get to earn more money with more time freedom. People often feel like the only way to advance is through the corporate track, but consulting opens us up to more opportunities. Guest Bio- Amy is the founder of Billable at the Beach®. The Power of Taking Astrologically-Based Action w/Amanda 'Pua' Walsh
Astrology is experiencing a huge Renaissance because it's relevant and extremely applicable to our current daily lives. What are the basics of astrology that one should become familiar with? How can we plan our lives and personal development around it? How do we take action that is energetically supported by astrology? On this episode, I'm joined by CEO and Founder of Astrology Hub, Amanda 'Pua' Walsh, who shares her journey of discovering astrology and building her business. When it comes to personal growth, if you align with the themes that are astrologically-based, you will have the wind in your sails. You're focused on the thing that is supported energetically at that time. -Amanda 'Pua' Walsh 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Pregnancy creates huge shiftsThere's something about being pregnant that brings clarity. It helps us realize that we're unhappy, need to make a change or a big idea comes up. But that clarity doesn't mean we won't face challenges. Sometimes, before the doors open, there will be a moment of breakdown, but that doesn't mean we're broken; it's part of the process and actually, the fact that it's happening is a sign that you're exactly where you need to be. Astrology goes a lot deeper than the zodiacMost people have a superficial understanding of what astrology is. Astrology is the language of the stars; it's very mathematical, but also incredibly intuitive. The sun travels through every single zodiac sign throughout the year, and this is what created zodiac signs. Astrology goes deeper than the horoscope, and actually, it's timing and patterns can reveal a lot about how we're feeling at a specific point in time. All Zodiac signs have progressions of expressionSome people like to make excuses for bad behavior by blaming it on the flaws of their zodiac sign. Every low expression of a zodiac sign has a higher expression for it. Being aware of the low expression of the sign, and finding a way to turn it into a positive, can help us become more cognisant of our strengths and weaknesses, and help others dealing with similar issues. Amanda is hosting her free 2020 Global Forecast Marathon Event today (January 9) through Sunday, January 12. Effective Storytelling & The Truth About Finding Your Purpose w/Greg Koorhan
The path to finding our purpose isn't the same for everyone. For many entrepreneurs and creatives, finding out what we want to do is a process of peeling back the layers. This is the process filmmaker Greg Koorhan took, going from a job in a marketing agency, to one focused on storytelling. What can we learn from the journey Greg took? What's the right mindset to have about success? Why is the idea that people have one purpose and one purpose only a huge myth? On this episode, award-winning film director, best-selling author, speaker and coach, Greg Koorhan, discusses his projects, his creative children and the path to his purpose. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Structure in storytelling is key (17:13 - 18:55) There's a difference between talking about a bunch of events and telling a story. A story has structure and conflict, and paying attention to these things makes us more effective storytellers. Short-form content can be extremely effective (23:33 - 24:32) In the day and age of storytelling through ads and social media content, we only have 1-2 minutes to tell someone's story. Within a minute or two, we can actually say a lot and resonate with people. There's no perfect formula for the path to success (33:30 - 35:44)Some people knew their passion from early on, but a lot of people actually discover their passion through a process of evolving, pivoting and iterating new pathways. There's nothing wrong with either approach.
3 Things You Must Do Before the Year Ends
We've got a little time before 2019 ends, and when a new year starts, we're so "full steam ahead" towards the future, that there are things from this year we won't remember to do. What are 3 important things we must remember to do before 2020 starts and why are they important? In this episode, we share 3 things you need to add to your to-do list before the end of this year. Think about what matters most to you next year if you only could give it one word. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Think about one person that has impacted you this year that you haven't talked to in a while. Before the year ends, get in touch with them and say thank you. Think about your word or phrase for 2020, tied to what you want to achieve in your business. Decide what your biggest business goal for 2020 is, but don't make it a revenue or amount of money, because that's an outcome and not a goal.
Conscious Creation: How to Create An Ideal Personal & Business Life w/Kelsey Murphy
As moms and business owners, it often feels like we're under so much pressure to do every single thing perfectly, and that makes the balance between our lives and our work impossible to achieve. What is Conscious Creation and how can it help us escape this stress? How can we redefine our roles on our terms? How do we start prioritizing the things that are ideal to us, instead of forcing ourselves into obligations? On this episode, Business and Life Coach, and my good friend, Kelsey Murphy, talks about a new system she has developed to help women show up in the best ways at home and at work. Conscious creation is about intentionally and consciously defining what an ideal life looks like on a business and personal level, and then planning for it. -Kelsey Murphy 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Be intentional about creating epic moments (13:01 - 14:28)We can't do everything with our kids, but what we can do is focus on things that will create memories for them. We need to focus on the things they can remember and treasure, and not for the sake of what we're expected to do as parents. Find the ideal way to spend time with your kids (11:15 - 12:12)We don't have to follow what every other mom does to spend time with their kids. We can spend quality time with them in a way and manner that we're excited about as opposed to something that makes us feel obligated and bored. It starts with us redefining what the ideal looks like for us. When we focus on what ignites us, we receive more of it (16:16 - 18:04) When we start thinking about what we love and what makes us happy, our brains will start filtering out what doesn't fit that vision. Our brain will be wired to start filtering in the right things and more of them will come our way. How to Thrive as a Boss Mom This Holiday Season
The holidays are a great time, but also a challenging one for Boss Moms. We want to put our families first and enjoy this time with them, but we also strive to make an impact on the world through our businesses. This is a difficult balancing act, and one that can lead to stress, worry and guilt. How can we make sure we thrive at this time of the year? How do we avoid overextending ourselves with obligations and demands? On this episode, we talk about how we can balance all of our priorities over the holidays and actually thrive through it all. This season is a rollercoaster of things that have to get done. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Be okay with the fact that this time of year is a roller coaster of emotions because so much is going on. Don't feel obligated to do everything this season. To thrive, think about what you can cut and change socially to reduce stress, and how to be minimally profitable without working in our businesses the whole time. Recognize what fills you up and what depletes you, and limit what depletes you. We can also surround the things we don't enjoy, with things we do enjoy. Seek an appreciation loop and lean on the people and community for support.
All Things Mastermind w/Maria Dismondy and Carrie Clark
The term 'Mastermind' is used fairly often in the business world, but many entrepreneurs still aren't sure what joining one of these groups entails. What is a Mastermind, and how can we use them to benefit our businesses? Why is it necessary for Mastermind members to challenge each other? How can we offer different viewpoints without offending other members in the process? On this episode, owner of the Speech and Language Kids website, Carrie Clark, and founder and CEO of Cardinal Rule Press, Maria Dismondy, discuss what makes Masterminds so beneficial to business owners. A good Mastermind is a group that helps you whittle down options. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Use Masterminds to challenge ideas (10:48 - 11:49)Masterminds are the ideal space for ideas to be shared and challenged. We should be using our groups to help each other brainstorm our ideas in different ways. The benefit of this kind of input is ultimately creating a more thought-out product. Take advantage of the different viewpoints in Masterminds (15:25 - 16:22)Having a tight-knit Mastermind with different views allows us to narrow down ideas and options more easily. This is an important step, because it stops us from becoming overwhelmed by all the suggestions we get from like-minded people outside our groups. Maintain mutual respect for all Mastermind members (20:41 - 21:51)For Masterminds to be effective, we have to have a mutual respect for everyone in our groups. This respect makes it easier to challenge one another, without running the risk of offending anyone on a personal level. Guest Bio- Carrie Clark is a speech-language pathologist and the founder of the Speech and Language Kids website. How to Run Your Business Like a Home
As Boss Moms, we have a responsibility to nurture our families and our businesses, but sometimes, it can feel overwhelming to tend to both at once. How can we stop questioning our abilities to run a business while parenting? Is it possible to channel the same love we have for our kids into our businesses, and how do we know which to prioritize at any given moment? On this episode, we learn how to run our businesses like a home. As a boss mom, your business and your family are both priorities. Channel the same love into both! -Dana Malstaff 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Moments, when we feel unenthusiastic, don't define our abilities. Temporary disinterest doesn't mean we're incapable of fulfilling our responsibilities. While we may feel overwhelmed at times as moms, our love for our children never subsides. We need to channel that same, unwavering love into our businesses. Stop wondering if business or family comes first; as Boss Moms, we have a priority to nurture both.
Boss Dad Spotlight: Tim Schmoyer On How to Build a Business Around Your Family
We often think of our businesses as our babies, but at the end of the day, what really matters is our actual families. Is it possible to run companies while staying actively involved in our kids' lives - and what happens if we have large families? How can we build businesses around our families, rather than the other way around? On this Boss Dad Spotlight episode, leading YouTube strategist, Tim Schmoyer shares how to build businesses that serve our families. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Run big families like businesses (08:30 - 09:42) Having a big family should never be a hindrance to entrepreneurial success. Think of having a growing family the same way as a growing business: as we expand, we need to work on finding better systems. Having a large family is not a barrier to owning a business- in fact, if we can master the systems to coordinate a big family, we'll probably be more productive in our businesses, too. Prioritize family over business (10:49 - 12:29) Business decisions are relatively easy to make- but they're not always the best decisions for our families. As entrepreneurs, we are in positions where we're able to decide when we'll travel for work. We need to prioritize our time according to what matters most to us, and our families. Disconnect to connect with family (16:51 - 17:39) It's easy to get wrapped up in business round the clock, especially when work and emails are available on all our devices. To combat this, disconnect. For 24 hours on a weekend, put phones on airplane mode and switch off computers. When we aren't constantly being bombarded by work reminders, we're able to relax and enjoy time with our families. There's no need to sacrifice family for work. It all comes down to the way we manage our time and the systems we use to coordinate our activities. From time to time, we need to disengage with work and give our families our full attention. Our businesses may be our second babies, but there are times when they'll need to come second to our actual babies. Guest Bio- Since 2011, Tim Schmoyer has been one of the leading YouTube strategists in the online video industry. His company, Video Creators, has been featured by FOX, Forbes, BBC even YouTube themselves as his team trains creators and brands to master YouTube and use it as a place to spread messages that change lives. Throwback Thursday - Episode 370: Nurture Your Business: How to Figure Out What Problem You Solve
For this week, the team and I decided to do a Throwback Thursday, dedicated to an episode that we find important and informative! Here is "Episode 370: NYB - How to Figure Out What Problem You Solve." As human beings, we all want validation. For entrepreneurs, no validation is as great as knowing there's a demand for the problem we solve. Why is it so important to be clear on what we want to be known for? How can we drill down to that problem and turn it into something we can sell or share with clients? On this episode, I talk about some strategies you can implement to define your service and package. You have to fall in love with the problem you solve, not the thing you sell. -Dana Malstaff 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Rushing makes you slower. You'll spend more time putting out fires from mistakes, you won't give strategies enough time to grow legs, and you might end up relaunching. If your name isn't associated with what you should be known for, you're facing an uphill battle. Think about what you want people to know from you and how you can bottle it into an educational package you can sell. Businesses and brands that stand the test of time and make money, in the long run, are built on solving one key problem and really honing in on it. It's important for us to work towards what we want people to know us for. We must also know the key intellectual property we have that solves a problem for our clients. You don't have to know what it is right this second, but you can start getting clarity by thinking of what you're constantly teaching, doing, or creating that could be packaged into a course. That will improve your messaging because you can start talking about the problem so you're not just creating content without a purpose.
How to Jumpstart Your Program Sales
Many of us have developed programs that aren't taking off as fast as we'd like, but while it's frustrating, we have to remember the problem lies with our messaging - not the programs. How can we set ourselves apart from our competitors in our customer's eyes, and can we adapt our messaging to build rapport more quickly? What can we do to avoid being discouraged when we don't see results immediately? On this episode, we're discussing how to jumpstart our programs and set them up for long-term success. The problem is not the program: the problem is the way we're talking about the program. The great thing is, that's fixable! -Dana Malstaff 3 Takeaways Creating a solution to our customer's problems isn't enough: we have to be able to do it now. Prioritization is the biggest step people miss, but it's vital if we want to set ourselves apart. Building trust is key. If our programs are new on the market, we can build trust by simply talking about the content of our programs, and showing that we're knowledgeable on the subject. Stop seeking immediacy. We have to understand that trust isn't built in an hour, so don't be discouraged too easily. We should aim to close someone 30 to 90 days after they come into our space. When we aren't seeing results as quickly as we'd hoped, it's easy to become discouraged and feel that we need to adapt our programs. However, that's not necessary. We can boost our success by providing immediate solutions for our clients and by showing them we know what we're talking about in our space. With that said, we have to remember that immediate action on our part doesn't necessarily mean we'll see immediate results. A business takes time to grow, but as long as we continue to nurture it, we will see the benefits.
Building a Website That Attracts Your Ideal Client w/Samantha Johnston
Having an effective website is a vital element of creating a successful business. How can we build websites that get potential clients to know, like and trust us? Which pages should we be paying attention to, and why is it important to let our personalities shine through on our websites? On this episode, CEO of Neapolitan Creative, Samantha Johnston, shares how to build a website that brings us clients who will not only love our products, but who we'll love working with. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Get visitors to know, like and trust us (28:02 - 28:56) We've all heard that to be successful in sales, we need to get potential clients to know, like and trust us. The same goes for a website; we have to create awareness of who we are so we can get clients to like us and ultimately, build enough trust so that they're happy to work with us. The best way to do this on a website is by thinking about how visitors will navigate our websites. Build a great homepage to set the right tone (30:05 - 31:00) The first place clients visit on our websites is the homepage, so we need to ensure everything they need to know is available there. This is where we build awareness for new visitors, and provide easy links to those who already like us and are willing to buy our products. Pay attention to personality (32:12 - 33:20) We could have the most beautifully designed website in the world, but if we don't have the copy to match, we run the risk of losing customers. Our copy needs to make sense with our design and showcase our personalities. By letting our personality come through on the website, we attract like-minded people who will not only enjoy our products, but who we'll enjoy working with. Guest Bio- Samantha Johnston is the CEO of Neapolitan Creative. She is passionate about helping clients craft their own brands with style, personality and heart. Samantha loves what she does, and in particular, enjoys being able to uplift and empower female entrepreneurs. To find out more about Sam, visit https://neapolitancreative.com/about/
How to Get Out of Your Own Way By Relentlessly Focusing on One Thing
Many of us aren't reaching our full potential or achieving the massive success we should be because we're not sticking with one thing and seeing it all the way through. We drop things before they've really taken hold, and we change our minds based on evidence that only exist in our minds. What are some of the false things the voices in our heads tell us and how can we debunk them? On this episode, I talk about something very important, which is focusing on one thing so that we can see it through. You can put something out into the world and still reserve the right to make it better. -Dana Malstaff 3 Takeaways We can't do everything at once, or else we dilute the effectiveness of all those things. The market gets confused if we're about too many things. Even if something is not perfect, it's better to put it out there, and get some sort of feedback, instead of only listening to the skewed feedback from the voice in our heads. We have big, beautiful voices, and important things to say, but if we're not consistently saying something repetitive to the audience, nothing will be memorable. When it comes to creating great programs, we are very often our own worst enemies. We stop ourselves from finishing things, because our fear gets in the way. We're either afraid that we'll have to stick with one thing forever, or worried that the thing we're trying to launch isn't good enough to put out into the market. The truth is, the most successful people make it because they shut the fear out, and they are relentless about that one thing till they see it through. It doesn't mean they don't have other things going on, but they know that in order to grow something worthwhile, persistence and consistency on one thing is critical.
How to Build and Run a Business That Gives Us Time & Financial Freedom w/Lars Hedenborg
The one thing all entrepreneurs have in common is that we started our businesses in order to give ourselves more time and money freedom. The ugly truth is, most entrepreneurs have zero freedom. They are constantly stressed and exhausted. As a result, their families suffer. What do we need to do in order for our businesses to give us true freedom? How can we get out of doing low value work? How can we make sure our businesses aren't negatively impacting our families? On this Boss Dad spotlight episode, I'm joined by founder of Real Estate B School and host of the Business Freedom Podcast, Lars Hedenborg. He shares powerful business, marriage and parenting nuggets, while discussing how he built a 7-figure business that still allows him time freedom. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Know your worth and your dollar per hour value (11:41 - 13:47)One of the biggest barriers to our growth as entrepreneurs is not having a concrete dollar value for our time. Because of this, it makes it hard for us to know what we should be spending our time on. If we know that our time is worth $250 per hour, we won't spend it on $10 per hour tasks. Delegate to elevate (14:22 - 16:50)Entrepreneurs often wear all of the hats in their business, but the problem is, some of the work is something we could be passing off to someone else. Pay them $10 per hour and then we can focus on higher level work. It's impossible to grow a business if you don't know the numbers in it (17:02 - 17:48)The first step to successfully scaling our businesses is tracking and measuring everything we do. Once we know our numbers, we can systematize processes, optimize them and even teach other people how to do the tasks. When our businesses aren't set up with systems and processes, we become chained to them. As a result, our partners and children carry the weight because we can't be present with them. We have to learn that our time is valuable, and that doing every single role in our business isn't noble, it actually puts our families at financial and emotional risks. We have to know our numbers, get a good system down, and bring on people who can help us work more efficiently. This is how we show our children that running a successful business venture can be fun, fulfilling and financially viable. Guest Bio- Lars Hedenborg is the host of the Business Freedom Podcast and the founder of Real Estate B-School, an education and coaching program for top producing real estate agents looking to build sustainable, systems-driven businesses. How to Use Facebook Ads to Maximize Your Business w/Monica Louie
Facebook ads can be an effective tool to promote our businesses. How can we get started with the process? Once we've decided we want to create an online campaign, how much should we be paying for it, and how do we decide who gets to see the advertisements? On this episode, Facebook and Instagram ads strategist, Monica Louie, shares her steps to creating a successful online campaign. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Place the pixel on your website (14:08 - 15:16) Even if we're not ready to start running Facebook ads yet, installing the Facebook pixel on the backend of our websites is a great first step. The pixel allows Facebook to gather data on the people who visit our websites, so that when we are ready to start a campaign, we already have a great idea of our demographics. Determine a realistic but effective budget (14:59 - 16:31) Once we've decided to advertise on Facebook and have a strategy in mind, we need to determine the budget. This should be based on what we're comfortable spending, as well as what we're advertising. For example, our daily advertising costs would probably be different from a promotion of our new launches. Elect the best audience based on who we already do business with (17:13 - 18:37) Depending on what we're promoting, we may want to target people who aren't already on our mailing lists. Facebook allows us to request 'lookalike lists'. These are people who have similar interests to our existing client database, and are likely to enjoy what we're selling. We shouldn't be relying on advertisements alone to boost our brands, but they're a great place to start. Facebook ads offer amazing tools, and even if we're not ready to commit to a campaign now, we can rely on technology like the Facebook pixel to gather information about our target audience until it's time. There is also a great deal of flexibility in terms of budgeting, which allows us to tailor campaigns to our exact needs. Facebook offers us the tools to take our businesses to the next level; why not take advantage? Positive Parenting Techniques for Your Business
Positive parenting is a nurturing process that helps us teach our kids to be independent, while still offering our unconditional support and love along the way. Is it possible to apply these techniques to our businesses? How can we foster nurturing relationships with our clients, while also setting boundaries? On this episode, we discuss the positive parenting techniques we can use in our businesses. Positive parenting encourages self-growth and positive development. That's exactly what we want for our clients. -Dana Malstaff 3 Takeaways Create permission statements. We need to decide what we're giving our clients permission for; ideally, this should be something they already do, but feel guilty about. We need to create safe spaces for our clients. Start a Facebook group for clients. We then need to create boundaries on the group regarding when we will and won't work, and what we're willing to do for clients. Be consistent. We have to be consistent with our message; if we have strong opinions, we must live by them. Our clients need to see that we live by the rules we set. To create successful and impactful businesses, we need to offer our clients nurturing and support. Just like we do for our children, we want to help our clients find confidence within themselves. However, we also need to set boundaries and live by the rules we set. We need to show clients that we walk the walk, and we'll not only take our businesses to the next level, but also foster healthier and happier client relationships.
How To Use Video For Amazing Results, High Impact And More Money in Your Business w/Patricia Kelikani
We all know that video is a great tool for business, but not enough of us are taking advantage of it. Which benefits are unique to video, and what makes it different to other forms of marketing content? How can we maximize our content and continue to see results for years to come? On this episode, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Patricia Kelikani shares why we should all be using video and how we can create better content. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Set your own intent (14:58- 16:07) People are emotional, and we choose to internalize written media in a way that makes sense to us. With video, we're able to surpass that emotion and share our points of view. Video gives us full control over our messages, and allows us to deliver our content with little-to-no gray areas. Take advantage of longevity (18:17- 18:58) The average lifespan of video is 4 years. That means, 4 years from now, we can still get new leads from just one video. To make the most of the content we produce, we need to keep repurposing it and putting it out there. Use the MAP method for success (19:13- 22:00) Messaging, Artistry and Promotion are vital for lucrative videos. When it comes to video content, we need to ensure we convey the right messages to our audiences, while also delivering a high-quality video. Once we have a high-quality video that aligns with our brands, we need to keep promoting it wherever we can. Video is a great option for marketing because it allows us to share our brand's purpose more clearly than any other platform. It also offers amazing longevity and long-term results. To create great video content, we need to pay attention to the quality and ensure we're putting something out there that represents our businesses. We should all be using video if we want to grow our businesses. How One Simple Giveaway Can Boost Your Brand
We all struggle with getting people to care about what we're doing and the content we're creating, and sometimes we have to give something away to get that visibility. What kind of giveaways should we be considering? How do we get people to take interest and actually engage with our content, not just get a giveaway without trying to get into our world? On this tactical episode, I introduce our favorite giveaway tool and share how we can use it for more visibility. Giveaways are powerful because they leverage the law of reciprocity. -Dana Malstaff 3 Takeaways If we want to boost our visibility in a competitive online world, we have to give away something of value to get someone's attention in return. Using Vyper, we can get more likes, visibility, shares, and we can track the people who engage with the ads so we can retarget our advertising. In terms of what we can give away, it should be physical product. As a business owner it can feel like such a huge challenge to get people to watch our content, like it, follow us and eventually sign up for and buy our products. Vyper is a tool that allows us to put the law of reciprocity into motion, give some value and get more people into our world. Using the right tactics allows us boost our visibility, and drive more attention and traffic to our brands.
How to Heal from Dieting with Intuitive Eating w/Jennifer McGurk
A lot of us have gone through periods of dieting at some point in our lives, and often the diets we adopt have damaging effects on our bodies for years to come. What is intuitive eating, and how can it help us heal from dieting? Can we use the principles of intuitive eating to help our kids develop healthier relationships with food from a young age? On this episode, owner of Eat with Knowledge and creator of the Feel Fabulous About Food online course, Jennifer McGurk explains the benefits of intuitive eating. 3 Things We Learned From This Episode Listen to what your body needs to eat(06:43- 07:36) So many of us eat out of habit or according to social norms. However, just because we've been taught to clean our plates after every meal, doesn't necessarily mean our bodies are hungry enough to finish everything. By that same token, we may crave a burger after a day of eating low-fuel foods. Intuitive eating teaches us that either of these situations is fine- we need to pay attention to what we're looking for or craving, rather than limit ourselves or overeat according to social norms. Set your kids up for a healthy relationship with food (09:50- 10:51) Don't place limitations on what your kids are allowed to eat. Rather than depriving them of specific foods, offer them a range of healthy options and let them decide on their portions. By doing this, we allow our children to see what makes them feel full. We also send the message that food is not an enemy, and let them build their own relationships with eating. Stop pressuring yourself to have answers (18:49- 19:44) Whether we're dietitians or not, as business owners we feel a lot of pressure to have all the answers. Stop putting all the pressure on yourself: we have permission to not know the answers. If you are a dietitian, don't worry about giving clients the 'wrong' information. Instead, set up a partnership where they have ownership of what feels right for their bodies. The relationships we have with food are complicated, and often they've been shaped by social norms. Stop worrying about what everyone else says: the most important thing is for us to feel good in our own bodies. Listen to cravings, and allow kids to do the same- set them up for a great relationship with food. Importantly, remember that it's okay not to have all the answers at once. Focus on what feels good for you, and go from there. Guest Bio- Jennifer McGurk is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist whose mission is to help people heal from dieting and feel fabulous about food.
