Meghan & Harry Christmas Special (Part 2) Behind the TV show! The Black Spy Podcast Season 7, Episode 0006 The Netflix super series Harry & Megan is a hit the world over. However, what's the back story? In part one we learned that Harry really served in a combat role in Afghanistan in the British army before the press rumbled him. We asked is Meghan a spoilt Hollywood troublemaker? We also established that the Royal Family and the British press didn't her original headline grabbing beauty or novelty that outstaged other royals. Was she then simply a capable, successful and tenacious black woman, who as an outsider refused to be cowed an antiquated system and its allied exclusive single hued press pack? Did/does this make Meghan and Harry a threat to the British monarchy and hence the British state? Is a Royal institution even theoretically viable in a true democratic state? as can a country be truly democratic, if every citizen is not free to become the head of state by their own endeavour? Can we Brits perceive or even contemplate our society without the Royals and are we wrong not to be able to? These and many other allied questions and the geo-politics surrounding these issues are answered when Firgas Esack poses such questions to the Black Spy, Carlton King. S7 Ep 69Refugees, Englishness & Royal Palace Racism (Part 2)

Refugees, Englishness & Royal Palace Racism (Part 2) The Black Spy Podcast Season 7, Episode 0004 The continuation episode (part 2) asking amongst many other questions, why Brits believe most asylum seekers/refugees come to the UK when this is blatantly not the case. In 2020 for example the UK only received - 37, 550 asylum applications, whereas Germany had - 124,380, Spain - 108,225 and France - 103,370 in the same year! Moreover, most asylum seekers/refugees come nowhere near Europe, the USA, Australia or Japan - but stay in their millions in the closest country to their own - Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Turkey, Lebanon etc? Why do many Brits such as Lady Susan Hussey think being English is a matter colour, albeit that black people have been in Britain for at least 2000 years? S7 Ep 68Cops & Spooks - Why we treat them so differently (Part Two)

Cops & Spooks - Why we treat them so differently (Part Two) Black Spy Podcast - Season 7, Episode 0002 Season 7, continues with part 2 of the question that Carlton King and Firgas Esack posed - why police are perceived, and indeed treated, much less favourably than secret intelligence and national security officers (spies - known colloquially in the UK as spooks). To answer this question Firgas looks at the way her profession (journalism) treats the police and Carlton suggests that class may well be a reason for this, taking into account that uniquely Carlton has experienced this difference having been a senior player in both the Police and the Secret Intelligence Service. As with last week's opening show for Season 7, the show delves into the geo-politics of class. Hence in both episodes Carlton and Firgas are at pains to fully exploit and explore the question in all its guises – perceived blue collar verses white collar, national importance verses the mundane. Its all discussed. Another great Black Spy Podcast listen. And as always, I hope you like it. S6 Ep 63Who decides? A sit down with Shaun Wood - Scriptwriter

Who decides? A sit down with Shaun Wood - Scriptwriter The Black Spy Podcast Season 6, Episode 0006 This week Carlton King sit down with scriptwriter Shaun Wood and asks the question "Who decides what get seen?" Due to the all pervasive nature of film and TV in modern society, this is very big question, not least because for many people the vast majority of their knowledge about the world's past, present and indeed what might even be its future, is transmitted to them via people like Shaun, be that through film, TV and to a lesser extent radio and the theatre. So, this week's sit down really matters! Carlton explores why and how Shaun got into screen writing. What his aims were/are. Asks how difficult it is for those perceived as not fitting the White, middle class, stereotype to obtain a screen writing role in the UK. Carlton seeks to establish how this lack of diversity has affected the views of everyday British citizens in relation to race, gender, class and other protected characteristics. Plus in Black history month, Carlton also asks how difficult is it for Black people to become scriptwriters in the UK? Carlton also asks whether this has changed recent years? And finally, we learn about Shaun's interesting up-bring which initially pointed him in a completely different creative direction. Once again this is a cracking episode in which all can learn as well as being entertained. S6 Ep 61Critical Thinking - Black History Month Special

The Black Spy Podcast Critical Thinking - Black History Month Special Season 6 Episode 0005 This week the Black Spy looks at Britain's Black History Month, which he helped create, and asks where its gone wrong! Carlton argues that Britain's Black month is too 20th century centric, it does not attempt to educate all Britain's about the total historic Black past and that it concentrates on the UK and the US in isolation. Does not educate Black and other citizens about the true Caribbean connection. Seemingly sees Slavery as a starting point for Black history. Does not make anything of the major connections between people of colour and Britain in Roman times, post Roman times, in the Morrish era and its connection with Britain, and throughout the centuries how blacks have been totally assimilated into Britain. Moreover, Black History Month lacks any connection with other Black European histories, plus it still peddles the belief that Black people arrived in Britain with the Windrush in 1948. This view of the Black presence, in correct view of Black people in Britain, obliterates the contribution Black soldiers military men have made in two world wars and indeed all Britain's conflicts since at least the mid 17th century. He also mentions that Black history month makes zero attempt to cover the years of Black World leadership through Ancient Egypt, Greece, particularly Crete and Black people's presence and leadership in what is the present day Middle East, India and Pakistan and connections with China and Central and South America, pre and post Slavery Finally Carlton argues that there is no attempt to define Black. Or to establish who has a right to decide who is Black. S6 Ep 61Firgas Esack of the DAPS Agency, seeks the Black Spy's thoughts on crime and policing

Firgas Esack of the DAPS Agency, seeks the Black Spy's thoughts on crime and policing The Black Spy Podcast Season 6, Episode 0004 The Black Spy, Carlton King, sits down again with journalist and publicist Firgas Esack of the DAPS Agency and considers Crime and Policing, in particular knife crime. They also assessed the latest pronouncements of the new Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, Sir Mark Rowley. The episode asks listeners if they've: Really considered the level of evidence required to find somebody guilty in a criminal case, when the legal definition to do so, in a criminal trial, is "beyond all reasonable doubt"? We also ask: Is Knife crime new? Why do people people carry knives? Will there be more crime as the economic crisis bits? Should account be taken of an individual's needs when 'criminals' are found guilty. Are there enough police to do the job? These and many more questions are debated in this great episode of the Black Spy Podcast making Season 6, Episode 0004, another must listen event. S6 Ep 60A sit down with Nazir Afzal - The first Muslim CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) Chief Prosecutor in England & Wales

The Black Spy Podcast A sit down with Nazir Afzal - The first Muslim CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) Chief Prosecutor in England & Wales This week Carlton King explores the life and times of Nazir Afzal, the renowned first Muslim Chief Prosecutor of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in England & Wales' (North West Region). The nearest equivalent body to the CPS in the United States is the District Attorney's office. We also learn about Nazir's tough up-bring in inner city Birmingham in the 1970's, his distrust of the police and other English institutions of state in the era and the depth of feeling this created within the young Nazir. We are made to understand why he decided to become a lawyer, rather than the doctor or engineer his parents hoped he'd become. And we learn about Nazir's journey into prosecuting on behalf of the British state. We also, discuss the all encompassing racism Nazir was subjected to from his very early life onward, to his somewhat more comfortable rise to the top of his profession. Finally, the men discuss a plethora of current and systemic problems suffered by the contemporary British state. Carlton points out that the CPS very rarely takes responsibility for its decisions and cites the Stephen Lawrence case as a prime example of this, noting that after Stephen Lawrence's murder the Met police within ten days had arrested four suspects, however, the crown prosecution service told police that in their opinion, their was not enough evidence to gain a conviction at court therefore police would have to release them! The suspects would all remain free for several years thereafter. The Met police would suffer greatly for not having arrested Stephen's murderers and were taunted as incompetent and institutionally racist. However, the CPS who prevented the four suspects taken to trial, took none of the blame or derision for the several year hiatus in bringing the very same suspects to trial of whom three would be found guilty. However, solely the Met Police have taken the blame for not closing the case quickly, when those at fault were the CPS. Carlton challenges Nazir to explain this anomaly! Consequently, as you can see, this is obviously another must hear Black Spy Podcast episode. S5 Ep 42Trevor Williams - Spookey & the creation of British Soul Part 1

The Black Spy Podcast Season 5, Episode 0010 Trevor Williams - Spookey & the creation of British Soul Part 1 This week Carlton explores the Black British soul music scene, with one of the guys who was lived it and made it happen - Trevor Williams. In addition to the music Trevor explains to Carlton how he ventured out to make a name for himself and his close school friends by breaking into the music scene of the mid 1970's when Black British soul bands were a rarity. However in this show, as is normally the case with Carlton, he digs beneath the surface to find out why Trevor took this route. What was home and school life like for the young Trevor? S5 Ep 41The Manchester University lectures - The biology and politics of Race

The Black Spy Podcast The Manchester University lectures The biology and politics of Race Season 5, Episode 0009 This week's Black Spy Podcast is again different. Over the season various listeners have asked about Carlton's thoughts on race he now is answering this request in this In addition to his book, business and podcast Carlton also lectures upon request. One of the lectures Carlton provides, either in tandem with speaking partner or generally alone, is a lecture on race, the purposeful obfuscation of black achievement in history by European and American and central and South American authorities, academic bodies as well as the historical pseudo-scientific plantocracy based white supremacy supporting 'academics' of the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries. Carlton ask attendees to put themselves into the body of a three year old black child of the 1950's and to grow in that world through the 60's and 70's as he explains his thought and feelings as well as pointing to black historical figures of note. Carlton's intention is to make attendees think about Race, albeit, as he puts it, that the concept of race is a biological nonsense! Conversely however, Carlton explains that at least since the black Atlantic slave trade, 'Race' is however an absolute political reality. Once again this week's episode is a fascinating must listen, episode of the Black Spy Podcast, especially for those who have any interest in the concept of racial biology and supremacy. The Black Spy Podcast Season 5 Episode 0007 Wayne Okell MBE: A life preparing for war! Wayne Okell was born and breed in a dying northern English mining town where the people were hard - salt of the earth. Even when older, and pubs beckoned, Wayne explains that a wrong glance or gesture could end in conflict. Therefore, when by accident, Wayne found himself outside a military recruitment office, the thought of combat in Her Majesty's armed forces, seemed no more than continuity, albeit with added purpose. This chance situation would lead to Wayne's journey into the orbit of the UK's Special Forces - Royal Marine Commandos, SBS and SAS and his endeavour to create a greater level of readiness and muscle memory within such operatives. However, Wayne also wished to provide them with the split second psychological capacity to, when necessary, override this desired quickest of all and generally intended objective. S4 Ep 44Black Spy Podcast End of Season 4 Review

Black Spy Podcast Season 4, end of season review As per normal, at the end of season, we review the episodes and guests who Carlton has sat down with to discuss their lives, interests and careers. This season Carlton undertook the highly unusual step of featuring a guest for all of the last four episodes of season four. The reason for this step was that the guest, Samantha Smith, a young, professional single mother of two, was prepared discuss how an accident left her head ready to fall off her body. We learn that the NHS could do nothing for Samantha, but to treat her as a terminal case. So it was, that on her own back, she researched and found that only two surgeons in the world could save her life. As both surgeons were in America and she was not a wealth women, Sam had to try to raise half a million pounds to save her life. Listeners will hear how she achieved this, not only once, but twice! These are truly incredible episodes. This season Carlton was also able to interview one of the stars of the moment, the star of Netflix's hit series, Top Boy. Ashely Walters' two episode interviews are extremely forthcoming and enlightening. For anybody whose, a fan or interested in the film, movie and music industries, these are must hear episodes. This season also saw the return of Big Mike Kilgannon. Mike's appearance with Carlton will provide listeners with a fantastic understanding of the new fiscal finance systems and technical processes. It's a great listen. This new technical order was also evident in Carlton's discussion with Doctor Suhel Ahmed who futuristically was dragging the NHS into a technological patient focused doctor/patient interface. So, if you care about your health, you most listen to Suhel's episode. The Black Spy also featured Fraser Michell a Royal Air Force (RAF) Squadron Leader. His exciting life was covered in great detail and is a must listen for any would be Air Force recruit, military enthusiast or just those with all round general interests. Early in this season Jade was on hand to pose the question that we all should, how does TV and films depictions of the police and violent society play into real life events. The unending series of US mass shootings alone, should make us all consider this question. We hope you will listen with interest to all this season's episodes as well as all other Black Spy Podcast seasons. S4 Ep 35Is Britain's National Health Service (NHS) at breaking point? - The Black Spy Podcast Season 4, Episode 0002

The Black Spy Podcast Season 4, Episode 0002 Is Britain's National Health Service (NHS) at breaking point? Is digital, AI and machine learning the way to make the NHS a preventative, rather than reactive, service? The Black Spy sits down with Dr Suhel Ahmed to answer these questions. This week's episode attempts to answer the above questions concerning the UK's NHS, which is factually of interest to every British citizen and anyone who seeks primary medical attention in the UK. This golden fleece of public health and society, is now under tremendous pressure and threat posts its initial success over the last 70 years. In addition to touching on Dr. Ahmed early life as a youth in a poor working class family, of South Asian heritage, living in a lower class neighbourhood of a tough northern mill town, the Black spy learns how Suhel discovered his latent innate educational talent. Listeners learn how Suhel gains access to a prestigious school and knuckles down to study, setting his sights on becoming a medic. Budding doctors will listen with interest as to how medics choose their direction and role within the medical profession in Britain. Many listeners will also no doubt be surprised at the level of privatisation that already exists in the NHS for General Practitioners (GPs). The discussion also touches on the dire straits of NHS waiting lists, the time takes to see a GP, and the less than perfect solution of continuing audio only doctors' telephone appointments, even post COVID. Finally, the last half of the show looks at the extremely interesting way forward for the NHS. What technology is presently available, where the NHS is going in the near future, questions regarding privatising the NHS, employment companies' responsibility for supporting their employees' health and learning where individuals can gain the tools to check their health for themselves by utilising apps and free health kiosk etc. Dr. Ahmed also speaks of the importance of health and personal data in assisting positive health outcomes. In short, this is another Black Spy Podcast that is not to be forepassed. S3 Ep 33Black Spy Podcast - End of Season 3, Season Review

This week's Black Spy Podcast is the end of season 3 round up. The Black Spy would like to thank all his guests in what was again an eclectic season. From the return of Jill, the straight talking no nonsense ex street drug worker, with her micro tough love advice for those unfortunate enough to be living with the addicted to the three macro giants of the global financial world, the Blockchain, Crypto, Fiat currency, Capitalism and the coming of the world's new financial order. We also gained great insight into the powerful entertainment industry from music, to TV, film to media as we learnt of one man's journey though these genres to find his niche in the production, script and the director's seat. The world of sport was also not forgotten, as the Black Spy spoke to professional boxer, of double knock out fame, Marcello Render. This episode touched on the good, the bad and the ugly of the fight game. The return of retired US Air Force Colonel, Edna Cumming, celebrated US Black History Month. At the time of the episode, Edna was close to finally winning her long overdue battle to gain recognition for the work undertaken by the 6888th during the Second World War. This segregated all Black female military unit was a postal battalion that served in the European theatre during war. However, due to racism the 6888th was overlooked by the country they served. However, due to the efforts of Colonel Cummings and colleagues, Congress passed a bill which was signed by President Byden into law this week. The 6888 are now receiving their long overdue Congressional recognition. The Black Spy Podcast also recognised another African American who had to fight for his and his people's right to be treated equally as well as to perform the art he loved - acting. So in episode one of season 3 the Black Spy said goodbye to the late great Sir Sydney Poitier. Finally in this season the Black Spy analysed two politicians and the potential grounds for their actions - President Vladimir Putin of Russia and Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Russian and Soviet history, the Cold War, Brexit, COVID 19 and Party gate. As usual in ending a season, the Black Spy listened to you, his listeners and answered some of your questions. So, keep listening, and see you in season 4.

S3 Ep 29US Black History Month Special - 6888th WW2 all Black female segregated battalion & Who say's, who's Black?

In this episode of The Black Spy Podcast, Carlton King once again speaks to African American female, retired US Army Colonel, Edna W. Cummings. In honour of US Black History Month Listeners learn more of Colonel Edna Cummings' nigh on single handed endeavour to get a Congressional Gold Medal, awarded to the segregated 6888th battalion of black female soldiers that saw active duty in Europe, during in WW2. Unfortunately, due to the racist politics of the day, the actions of 6888th were never fully recognised. So, Colonel Cumming wishes to belatedly rectify this, taking the battle for recognition to the US Senate and the House of Representatives. In addition to discussing the 6888th, The Black Spy and Colonel Cummings analyse the concept of 'Race' and who decides who is a member of the so called 'Black' race. Racism and Blackness through history are discussed and whether there is always time based progression in terms of civil rights and gender bias. As Colonel Cummings puts it, "It's a history that has too long been hidden". This episode is truly another fantastic Black Spy Podcast interview from which we can all learn. S3 Ep 28Discussions with Jill, part 2 -The consequences of drug addicted on families, drug education, drug legalisation, alcoholism, prescription drug abuse and street dealers vs Mr Big. The Black Spy Podcast, Season 3, Episode 0006

Black Spy Podcast - Season 3, Episode 0006 - Jill Street Drug worker Part 2 By popular demand, this week's episode of the Black Spy Podcast once again features Jill. As previously mentioned we've all heard of illegal 'drugs', many have tried them, experimented, abused and even enjoyed them. Governments have prohibited and outlawed them, and made efforts second only to combatting terrorism to stem the tide of them. Yet once again today's guest, who dealt with the street consequences of drugs, be they prescribed or illegal, provides The consequences of drug addicted on families, drug education, drug legalisation, alcoholism, prescription drug abuse and street dealers vs Mr Big. a deep and thoughtful evaluation of how she sees the problem. Once again, in this episode, Jill doesn't attempt to hide or perfume events. As we said previously, Jill clarified: there was nothing fluffy about how I went about my activities as a drugs worker. We further discussed the street economics and entrepreneurial opportunities of street dealing. The bitter, nasty and remorseless violence that the drugs trade often brings is also dissected. Carlton also poses the question of the ethics of police action in the so called war on drugs with there seemingly being one rule for the poor and another for the rich, powerful and the well placed. Once again this is another one of those must hear Black Spy Podcast episodes that will inform and intrigue. S3 Ep 25Money & geo-politics. The real power? Peter Smith, the road to the City, investment banking, IPOs and Stock Market evaluations.

In this week's Black Spy Podcast Carlton King sits down with Liverpudlian, Peter Smith, one time wizz kid of the City of London investment banking world regarding his journey into realm of riches in the big smoke (London) and beyond. It's a story that becomes all the more fascinating as we learn that after becoming the youngest ever broker in the UK at barely 18 years of age, Peter is responsible for his own good fortune. After getting to know Peter, he and Carlton discuss where the real power lies in the world today. They explore the almost mythical role played by the City, Wall Street and the big banks and their equivalents in all societies and countries. The growth of fintech, the tech giants and the seemingly unending easy money that funds and drives many a questionable, as well as clearly 'positive', tech startups is also put under the microscope. Finally, the future of the markets are also discussed, where does Crypto et'al fit in? They also examine the obvious importance of 'the market' and banking to the secret world, terrorism, extremism and geopolitics and politicians including the petty or indeed major corruption of the political classes. S3 Ep 24The black arts of British politics, Boris Johnson, Covid regulations, immigration, Brexit & populism

The black arts of British politics, Boris Johnson, Covid regulations, immigration, Brexit & populism The Black Spy Podcast, Season 3, Episode 0002 Truth and Lies British politics in the Johnson era In this week's Black Spy Podcast we couldn't but concentrate on the black arts of British politics as the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, comes under sustained pressure for his disregard of the government's own Covid 19 regulations. It's also a week when policing decisions, secret intelligence provided by the British Security Service (MI5), and the actions of foreign actors from China and perhaps beyond, are drawn into this political minefield. Who is leaking the drip, drip feed of stories regarding the indiscretions of a hither to Teflon plated Prime Minister? Plus, the Prime Minister's Office, No10 Downing Street, seems hell bent on not keeping to the Covid 19 regulations that it has imposed on everybody else in the nation. The lackadaisical attitude of PM Boris Johnson has created a culture in government which manifests itself in a lack of attention to detail and a disregard for the truth. However, the propagation of a post Brexit Nirvana that is based on a mythical England (UK), now revamped in flag toting patriotic cynicism of blame; directed at the EU and immigrants, has given Boris a staggering degree latitude to manipulation the truth unchallenged. So, in this session, Carlton will also look at the make up of the British political system crowned by the Royals, a lack of a written constitution, the role of MPs, Ministers, Secretaries of State, The upper House of Lords, Ladies and clergy, foreign donors, political influencers, Civil Servants, SPADs and even the intelligence and Security Services, Police and the judiciary This is another must hear Black Spy Podcast that informs, entertains and allows listeners to contextualise the geo-politics of an era and a nation.
