Yet, youth, mistrust and fidelity conspired to undermine Trevor's boyhood goals. So in this episode, we are again exposed to Trevor and the band's trails and tribulations as they continue to climb the ladder of success in this often most duplicitous of arts, that is the music industry. So what happened to this old school generation of British soul pioneers and what was generally their fate. Hear it all in this weeks episode that is part 2 of Trevor's story. S5 Ep 42Trevor Williams - Spookey & the creation of British Soul Part 1

The Black Spy Podcast Season 5, Episode 0010 Trevor Williams - Spookey & the creation of British Soul Part 1 This week Carlton explores the Black British soul music scene, with one of the guys who was lived it and made it happen - Trevor Williams. In addition to the music Trevor explains to Carlton how he ventured out to make a name for himself and his close school friends by breaking into the music scene of the mid 1970's when Black British soul bands were a rarity. However in this show, as is normally the case with Carlton, he digs beneath the surface to find out why Trevor took this route. What was home and school life like for the young Trevor? What challenges did Britain's Imperial children of colour undergo in what one called the empire's motherland, Britain? How did Trevor's Jamaican parents cope with the hostilities of the time? How did Trevor's parents obtain housing and work? How did Trevor's entrepreneurial mother achieve her goals? What did Trevor's hard working father think of Trevor's venture into the music industry. Was Trevor musically gifted? What barriers were put in Spookey's way as they created the band? And were the band aware of how cutthroat the industry was that they were entering? Consequently, we gain a feel of the trails and tribulations the band went through to climb the ladder to achieve some success in the music industry, as well as being one of the groups that lead the way for a home grown British version of that most American of musical genres Rhythm and Blues' - Soul Music. This episode solely covers part one of this truly interesting sit down with Spookey and Sweet Sensation's star, Trevor Williams, don't miss part two. S5 Ep 41The Manchester University lectures - The biology and politics of Race

The Black Spy Podcast The Manchester University lectures The biology and politics of Race Season 5, Episode 0009 This week's Black Spy Podcast is again different. Over the season various listeners have asked about Carlton's thoughts on race he now is answering this request in this In addition to his book, business and podcast Carlton also lectures upon request. One of the lectures Carlton provides, either in tandem with speaking partner or generally alone, is a lecture on race, the purposeful obfuscation of black achievement in history by European and American and central and South American authorities, academic bodies as well as the historical pseudo-scientific plantocracy based white supremacy supporting 'academics' of the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries. Carlton ask attendees to put themselves into the body of a three year old black child of the 1950's and to grow in that world through the 60's and 70's as he explains his thought and feelings as well as pointing to black historical figures of note. Carlton's intention is to make attendees think about Race, albeit, as he puts it, that the concept of race is a biological nonsense! Conversely however, Carlton explains that at least since the black Atlantic slave trade, 'Race' is however an absolute political reality. Once again this week's episode is a fascinating must listen, episode of the Black Spy Podcast, especially for those who have any interest in the concept of racial biology and supremacy. S5 Ep 7Wayne Okell MBE: A life preparing for war!

The Black Spy Podcast Season 5 Episode 0007 Wayne Okell MBE: A life preparing for war! Wayne Okell was born and breed in a dying northern English mining town where the people were hard - salt of the earth. Even when older, and pubs beckoned, Wayne explains that a wrong glance or gesture could end in conflict. Therefore, when by accident, Wayne found himself outside a military recruitment office, the thought of combat in Her Majesty's armed forces, seemed no more than continuity, albeit with added purpose. This chance situation would lead to Wayne's journey into the orbit of the UK's Special Forces - Royal Marine Commandos, SBS and SAS and his endeavour to create a greater level of readiness and muscle memory within such operatives. However, Wayne also wished to provide them with the split second psychological capacity to, when necessary, override this desired quickest of all and generally intended objective. S4 Ep 44Black Spy Podcast End of Season 4 Review

Black Spy Podcast Season 4, end of season review As per normal, at the end of season, we review the episodes and guests who Carlton has sat down with to discuss their lives, interests and careers. This season Carlton undertook the highly unusual step of featuring a guest for all of the last four episodes of season four. The reason for this step was that the guest, Samantha Smith, a young, professional single mother of two, was prepared discuss how an accident left her head ready to fall off her body. We learn that the NHS could do nothing for Samantha, but to treat her as a terminal case. So it was, that on her own back, she researched and found that only two surgeons in the world could save her life. As both surgeons were in America and she was not a wealth women, Sam had to try to raise half a million pounds to save her life. Listeners will hear how she achieved this, not only once, but twice! These are truly incredible episodes. This season Carlton was also able to interview one of the stars of the moment, the star of Netflix's hit series, Top Boy. Ashely Walters' two episode interviews are extremely forthcoming and enlightening. For anybody whose, a fan or interested in the film, movie and music industries, these are must hear episodes. This season also saw the return of Big Mike Kilgannon. Mike's appearance with Carlton will provide listeners with a fantastic understanding of the new fiscal finance systems and technical processes. It's a great listen. This new technical order was also evident in Carlton's discussion with Doctor Suhel Ahmed who futuristically was dragging the NHS into a technological patient focused doctor/patient interface. So, if you care about your health, you most listen to Suhel's episode. The Black Spy also featured Fraser Michell a Royal Air Force (RAF) Squadron Leader. His exciting life was covered in great detail and is a must listen for any would be Air Force recruit, military enthusiast or just those with all round general interests. Early in this season Jade was on hand to pose the question that we all should, how does TV and films depictions of the police and violent society play into real life events. The unending series of US mass shootings alone, should make us all consider this question. We hope you will listen with interest to all this season's episodes as well as all other Black Spy Podcast seasons. S4 Ep 35Is Britain's National Health Service (NHS) at breaking point? - The Black Spy Podcast Season 4, Episode 0002

The Black Spy Podcast Season 4, Episode 0002 Is Britain's National Health Service (NHS) at breaking point? Is digital, AI and machine learning the way to make the NHS a preventative, rather than reactive, service? The Black Spy sits down with Dr Suhel Ahmed to answer these questions. This week's episode attempts to answer the above questions concerning the UK's NHS, which is factually of interest to every British citizen and anyone who seeks primary medical attention in the UK. This golden fleece of public health and society, is now under tremendous pressure and threat posts its initial success over the last 70 years. In addition to touching on Dr. Ahmed early life as a youth in a poor working class family, of South Asian heritage, living in a lower class neighbourhood of a tough northern mill town, the Black spy learns how Suhel discovered his latent innate educational talent. Listeners learn how Suhel gains access to a prestigious school and knuckles down to study, setting his sights on becoming a medic. Budding doctors will listen with interest as to how medics choose their direction and role within the medical profession in Britain. Many listeners will also no doubt be surprised at the level of privatisation that already exists in the NHS for General Practitioners (GPs). The discussion also touches on the dire straits of NHS waiting lists, the time takes to see a GP, and the less than perfect solution of continuing audio only doctors' telephone appointments, even post COVID. Finally, the last half of the show looks at the extremely interesting way forward for the NHS. What technology is presently available, where the NHS is going in the near future, questions regarding privatising the NHS, employment companies' responsibility for supporting their employees' health and learning where individuals can gain the tools to check their health for themselves by utilising apps and free health kiosk etc. Dr. Ahmed also speaks of the importance of health and personal data in assisting positive health outcomes. S3 Ep 33Black Spy Podcast - End of Season 3, Season Review

This week's Black Spy Podcast is the end of season 3 round up. The Black Spy would like to thank all his guests in what was again an eclectic season. From the return of Jill, the straight talking no nonsense ex street drug worker, with her micro tough love advice for those unfortunate enough to be living with the addicted to the three macro giants of the global financial world, the Blockchain, Crypto, Fiat currency, Capitalism and the coming of the world's new financial order. We also gained great insight into the powerful entertainment industry from music, to TV, film to media as we learnt of one man's journey though these genres to find his niche in the production, script and the director's seat. The world of sport was also not forgotten, as the Black Spy spoke to professional boxer, of double knock out fame, Marcello Render. This episode touched on the good, the bad and the ugly of the fight game. The return of retired US Air Force Colonel, Edna Cumming, celebrated US Black History Month. At the time of the episode, Edna was close to finally winning her long overdue battle to gain recognition for the work undertaken by the 6888th during the Second World War. This segregated all Black female military unit was a postal battalion that served in the European theatre during war. However, due to racism the 6888th was overlooked by the country they served. However, due to the efforts of Colonel Cummings and colleagues, Congress passed a bill which was signed by President Byden into law this week. The 6888 are now receiving their long overdue Congressional recognition. The Black Spy Podcast also recognised another African American who had to fight for his and his people's right to be treated equally as well as to perform the art he loved - acting. So in episode one of season 3 the Black Spy said goodbye to the late great Sir Sydney Poitier. Finally in this season the Black Spy analysed two politicians and the potential grounds for their actions - President Vladimir Putin of Russia and Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Russian and Soviet history, the Cold War, Brexit, COVID 19 and Party gate. As usual in ending a season, the Black Spy listened to you, his listeners and answered some of your questions. So, keep listening, and see you in season 4.

S3 Ep 29US Black History Month Special - 6888th WW2 all Black female segregated battalion & Who say's, who's Black?

In this episode of The Black Spy Podcast, Carlton King once again speaks to African American female, retired US Army Colonel, Edna W. Cummings. In honour of US Black History Month Listeners learn more of Colonel Edna Cummings' nigh on single handed endeavour to get a Congressional Gold Medal, awarded to the segregated 6888th battalion of black female soldiers that saw active duty in Europe, during in WW2. Unfortunately, due to the racist politics of the day, the actions of 6888th were never fully recognised. So, Colonel Cumming wishes to belatedly rectify this, taking the battle for recognition to the US Senate and the House of Representatives. In addition to discussing the 6888th, The Black Spy and Colonel Cummings analyse the concept of 'Race' and who decides who is a member of the so called 'Black' race. S3 Ep 28Discussions with Jill, part 2 -The consequences of drug addicted on families, drug education, drug legalisation, alcoholism, prescription drug abuse and street dealers vs Mr Big. The Black Spy Podcast, Season 3, Episode 0006

Black Spy Podcast - Season 3, Episode 0006 - Jill Street Drug worker Part 2 By popular demand, this week's episode of the Black Spy Podcast once again features Jill. As previously mentioned we've all heard of illegal 'drugs', many have tried them, experimented, abused and even enjoyed them. Governments have prohibited and outlawed them, and made efforts second only to combatting terrorism to stem the tide of them. Yet once again today's guest, who dealt with the street consequences of drugs, be they prescribed or illegal, provides The consequences of drug addicted on families, drug education, drug legalisation, alcoholism, prescription drug abuse and street dealers vs Mr Big. a deep and thoughtful evaluation of how she sees the problem. Once again, in this episode, Jill doesn't attempt to hide or perfume events. As we said previously, Jill clarified: there was nothing fluffy about how I went about my activities as a drugs worker. We further discussed the street economics and entrepreneurial opportunities of street dealing. The bitter, nasty and remorseless violence that the drugs trade often brings is also dissected. Carlton also poses the question of the ethics of police action in the so called war on drugs with there seemingly being one rule for the poor and another for the rich, powerful and the well placed. S3 Ep 25Money & geo-politics. The real power? Peter Smith, the road to the City, investment banking, IPOs and Stock Market evaluations.

In this week's Black Spy Podcast Carlton King sits down with Liverpudlian, Peter Smith, one time wizz kid of the City of London investment banking world regarding his journey into realm of riches in the big smoke (London) and beyond. It's a story that becomes all the more fascinating as we learn that after becoming the youngest ever broker in the UK at barely 18 years of age, Peter is responsible for his own good fortune. After getting to know Peter, he and Carlton discuss where the real power lies in the world today. They explore the almost mythical role played by the City, Wall Street and the big banks and their equivalents in all societies and countries. S3 Ep 24The black arts of British politics, Boris Johnson, Covid regulations, immigration, Brexit & populism

The black arts of British politics, Boris Johnson, Covid regulations, immigration, Brexit & populism The Black Spy Podcast, Season 3, Episode 0002 Truth and Lies British politics in the Johnson era In this week's Black Spy Podcast we couldn't but concentrate on the black arts of British politics as the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, comes under sustained pressure for his disregard of the government's own Covid 19 regulations. It's also a week when policing decisions, secret intelligence provided by the British Security Service (MI5), and the actions of foreign actors from China and perhaps beyond, are drawn into this political minefield. Who is leaking the drip, drip feed of stories regarding the indiscretions of a hither to Teflon plated Prime Minister? Plus, the Prime Minister's Office, No10 Downing Street, seems hell bent on not keeping to the Covid 19 regulations that it has imposed on everybody else in the nation. The lackadaisical attitude of PM Boris Johnson has created a culture in government which manifests itself in a lack of attention to detail and a disregard for the truth. However, the propagation of a post Brexit Nirvana that is based on a mythical England (UK), now revamped in flag toting patriotic cynicism of blame; directed at the EU and immigrants, has given Boris a staggering degree latitude to manipulation the truth unchallenged. So, in this session, Carlton will also look at the make up of the British political system crowned by the Royals, a lack of a written constitution, the role of MPs, Ministers, Secretaries of State, The upper House of Lords, Ladies and clergy, foreign donors, political influencers, Civil Servants, SPADs and even the intelligence and Security Services, Police and the judiciary This is another must hear Black Spy Podcast that informs, entertains and allows listeners to contextualise the geo-politics of an era and a nation. S2 Ep 22Black Spy Podcast, End of Season 2 Review

End of Season Two Review Black Spy Podcast, Season 2, episode 0011 Carlton King looks back at Season Two of his Black Spy Podcast. Carlton highlights the diversity of the topics covered by him during this season from, was former King of England Edward the 7th a Nazis sympathiser? To, was senior member of the British Royal family, and the last Vice Roy of British India, Lord Louis Mountbatten, a paedophile? Both subjects were discussed with historian, author and the world's no 1 literacy agent, Andrew Lownie, during his guest appearance on the podcast. The show also looks back a two guests who deal daily with the ravages of drug and alcohol abuse; prison Doctor, Tracy Hopwood who explains her decades long work in Britain's prison system and Drug worker, Jill, who's episode gets deep into the weeds of the everyday street reality of drug and alcohol abuse on regular family life. Carlton and Jill, also discussed the alleged drug abuse within Britain's present day government and contemporary political elite; noting how society differentiates between the drug use of Britain's different social classes as regards police enforcement and societal acceptance. Another switch in emphasis was the great discussion with Hollywood and Hong Kong Kung Fu actor Winston Ellis. Winston, a three times world martial arts champion explained his incredible journey into the acting profession; including how he obtained a coveted role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise starring Johnny Depp. What a guest! Another really powerful episode dealt with gambling, or as guest Carl put it, the gaming industry. Carl, explained how he entered the industry in which, as he put it, gave him a good life. However, Carl was keen to leave listeners with no doubt that the industry always wins! Noting the now, all pervasive aspect of gambling in our daily lives, Carl provided his email to listeners at the end his discussion with Carlton. Carl wished to offer assistance to anyone who might be addicted to the industries multitude of present day offerings. Looking back over this season we also brought a 'Windrush Special' to listeners. In this must hear episode, Carlton spoke to several 95 year old West Indian women who were children of the British Empire. Listeners learn how for 400 years they were British citizens and through their early lives believed they were no different than any other Brit. We hear of the women's arrival from the Caribbean in the late 1940's early 1950's in what they universally called 'the Mother Country' - England. We hear of the old ladies bewilderment when regular British people didn't see them as fellow Brits, even though, at the same time they had more racial freedom in Britain than in their Caribbean homelands. Most, if not all British Caribbean colonies had in place a quasi-apartheid system, with White Caribbean citizens or British expatriates at the top of society and Blacks at the bottom, with mixed race citizens somewhere in the middle with Indians and other imperial subjects. This season also saw the great interview with author and firearms armourer, Did's Hall. This episode dug deep into the issue of arming the British police, the difference between armed and non armed policing and the frankly surprising Hollywood shooting incident concerning the well known Hollywood 'A' list actor, Alex Baldwin. Throughout every episode Carlton always made the connection between the regular world and the secret world of intelligence, national security, armed governmental close protection operations and geo-politics. To this end Carlton had an awesome sit down with veteran BBC reporter, ITV World in Action presenter and stalwart BBC flagship geopolitical investigative prime time programme presenter and producer of Panorama, John Ware. This full blown deep dive into the secret world of agents and intelligence gathering surrounding the Northern Ireland conflict, as well as John's actions in getting MI5 senior officer, Peter Wright's memoir "Spycatcher" published, was fascinating. This was a truly great episode. However, for those seeking an even greater view into the real clandestine world of terrorism, surveillance, secret intelligence, national security and armed governmental personal protection operations, the two last episodes of this season fully delivered. These episodes delved deep into the little known secret world of Scotland Yard's Special Branch during Carlton sit down with ex Detective Inspector, Bob Pugh. Bob spent 35 years in MPSB (the Metropolitan Police Special Branch) headquartered at the world famous Scotland Yard. 'The Branch', Britain's Secret Police which was disbanded in 2006, had performed this national security role for more than 125 years, prior to it being disbanded, so Carlton and Bob, who were both long term senior members of The Branch, had much to discuss. For any person with an interest in the clandestine world of spies and spy catchers Bob episodes are an unbelievable must listen experience. This overv

S2 Ep 21'The Branch' Part 2. DI Bob Pugh, recollects his 35 years in Scotland Yard's Special Branch (MPSB), Britain's secret police

'The Branch' (Part 2) Season 2, Episode 0010 DI Bob Pugh, recollects his 35 years in Scotland Yard's Special Branch (MPSB), Britain's secret police Again this week's episode brings listeners a practically never before heard view from behind the scenes in the secret world of Scotland Yard's Special Branch. Formed in 1883, before the existence of the Security Service (MI5) in 1909, and The Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in 1911, the Metropolitan Police Special Branch was Britain's first accredited internal secret service. Tasked with upholding the national security of the United Kingdom, The Branch would later share this role with MI5. However, because MI5 is not a law enforcement unit and therefore has no police powers of arrest or compunction, the Security Service has always required the assistance of the Branch or the police in general. Again in this week's episode, Bob Pugh an ex Detective Inspector in the Branch, recollects his 35 years in MPSB and the exploits he undertook in the many departments and sections of The Branch. This continues the fascinating discussion form last week, so for anybody who has any interest in the covert world of national security, secret intelligence and allied geopolitics it's another must listen show. In this second part of this two week discussion, we learn about MPSB's close protection role and we touch on its deep cover activities. We also continue to touch on the Branch's investigative, secret intelligence and national security roles and the reasons for the Branch's eventual disbandment. We speak of Scotland Yard Special Branch officers bodyguard and its, and the Branch's successor organisation - SO1. We speak of the Branch's/SO1's responsibility for providing armed personal protection to Britain's highest ranking politicians (The Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary, Defence and Home Secretaries etc.) and UK wide responsibility for protecting visiting foreign Presidents, Prime Ministers and politically active Kings, Queens as well as other senior foreign politicians officially visiting the UK. The Black Spy Podcast Season 2, Episode 0009 'The Branch' DI Bob Pugh, recollects his 35 years in Scotland Yard's Special Branch (MPSB), Britain's secret police This week's episode brings listeners a practically never before heard view of behind the scenes in the secret world of The Branch. Formed in 1883 before the existence of the Security Service (MI5) in 1909, and The Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in 1911, the Metropolitan Police Special Branch was Britain's first accredited internal secret service. Tasked with upholding the national security of the United Kingdom, The Branch would later share this role with MI5. Because MI5 is not a law enforcement unit and therefore have no police powers of arrest or compunction, the Security Service would always require the assistance of the Branch or the police in general. In this week's episode, Bob Pugh an ex Detective Inspector in the Branch, recollects his 35 years in MPSB and the exploits he undertook in the many departments and sections of The Branch. This is a fascinating discussion for anybody who has at least the slightest interest in the covert world of national security, secret intelligence and allied geopolitics. In this discussion, which lasts over two episodes, we learn how MPSB officers were recruited, the examinations they had to pass to be selected, the vetting system officers had to undergo to be granted unfettered access to the top secret information, documentation and intelligence MPSB officers required to undertake their national security task. We also learn of the investigative, secret intelligence and national security training MPSB officers had to undergo to gain the level of competence required to perform counter intelligence, counter subversion, counter terrorism, counter extremism and counter proliferation roles undertaken by Scotland Yard's Special Branch. Moreover, many Scotland Yard Special Branch officers additionally underwent high level bodyguard and surveillance training as MPSB had the national responsibility for combatting Irish Republican extremism/terrorism and global responsibility for providing personal armed protection to Britain's top politicians (The Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary, Defence and Home Secretaries etc.) and UK wide responsibility for protecting visiting foreign Presidents, Prime Ministers and politically active Kings, Queens as well as other senior foreign politicians officially visiting the UK. S2 Ep 18The Black Spy Podcast Season 2, Episode 0007

The Black Spy Podcast Season 2, episode 0007 'Windrush Special' Britain as through the eyes of the 95 year old pioneers who made the journey to "Mother Country" This week's special episode brings listeners another seldom heard and insightful view into a current event, with historical roots in the macro geo-political world of the age of empire. This time the event being analysed through the eyes of the everyday citizens who experienced it, is the so called Windrush affair. In discussion with two 95 year olds and two somewhat younger, Carlton explores the mentality of colonialism, the lifestyle of the colonisers and that of the colonised. We hear the ladies recollections of their country, Barbados, in the 1930s, the apartheid system that had been in place under British rule for more that 300 years, the codification of race the island, with blacks being 2nd if not 3rd class citizens, the restrictions of class and the English centric colonial education system. The ladies speak of the effect of WW2 in the Caribbean and the take up of the call to arms within the Caribbean in general. Later, the ladies speak of their arrival in Britain, the culture shock of seeing poor working class white people and the shock of realising that, as Barbadians, contrary to what they'd been taught all their lives, they were not British and not necessarily wanted. Interestingly the ladies seem to notice a difference between the welcome from Londoners and that obtained by those who settled in Northern England. Listeners will be informed, no doubt enjoy, and frankly, be moved, by some of the recollections of this trip down memory lane by the nonagenarians. The Black Spy Podcast Season 2, episode 0005 Hollywood shooting death, how could it happen? Does being unarmed mean that British police, must police by consent, whereas the routinely armed police of other countries don't? Are unarmed police forced to be more violent? The historical reason why British police are unarmed. Listeners will note that Dids and Carlton are not in total agreement on these issues, which makes for riveting and entertaining listening. S2 Ep 15The Black Spy Podcast, Season 2, episode 0004

'Drug addiction, alcohol, abuse and the clandestine world' This episode of the Black Spy Podcast will be one of pure learning for most listeners. Yes we've all heard of 'drugs'. Many have tried them, experimented, abused and even enjoyed them. Governments have prohibited and outlawed them, and made efforts second only to combatting terrorism to stem the tide of them. Yet today's guest, who deals with the street consequences of drugs, be they prescribed or illegal, believes government's efforts have been confused from the beginning. This week's Black Spy Podcast sit down, with another expert from a walk of life that we often hear little from, doesn't attempt to hide or perfume events. As Jill says: "there was nothing fluffy about how I went about my activities as a drugs worker." The street economics and entrepreneurial opportunities of street dealing are discussed. The bitter, nasty and remorseless violence that the trade can bring about are dissected, as are the often stated links to prostitution and abuse. Carlton also poses the question: "why is it that every politician who ran for the leadership of Britain's Conservative Party, including the present Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, admitted to taking illegal drugs, often cocaine, yet none seemed to have suffered police action even when technically at least one minister admitted to supply. Is one of the problems with drug use, simply a matter of affordability? Why do the wealthy seem to suffer less enforcement against them?" So frankly, once again this is another one of those must hear Black Spy Podcast episodes that will inform and intrigue. S2 Ep 2The Black Spy Podcast, Season 2, episode 0002

The Black Spy Podcast, Season 2, episode 0002 'A UK Prison Doctor's view of rehabilitation, serial killers, offender management and causal effects of drugs and drink in prisons' The Black Spy Podcast brings you another hard hitting, thought provoking and educational discussion, this time with UK Prison medic, Dr. Tracy Hopwood, who has spent years working in all of Britain's prison categories (Prisons in the UK are placed into alphabetical categories from 'open prisons category D to maximum security prisons Cat A). During this sit down Carlton and Tracy discuss the various prison regimes, the abuse of drugs in prisons, prison violence, the ingenious alcoholic drinking concoctions made by prisoners, the corrupting of officials and the atmosphere of fear generated in prisons that effects both staff and inmates. We learn of Doctor Hopwood's journey into 'prison medicine', why she finds it rewarding and her inner most thoughts on the capacity of prison to rehabilitate. Carlton also recounts his experience of prisons from around the world, and questions the UK ability in this sphere. Dr Hopwood speaks of the absolute resourcefulness of some prisoners, their chameleon like ability to fit in to the prison system in order to seek release or fool those tasked with judging their suitability for release. Dr Hopwood also mentions how she was shocked by the sheer charismatic exhibited by some serial killers. Finally, Carlton and the Tracy discuss his attempts to speak to various prisoners including the infamous, Carlos the Jackal, in Paris, suicide bombers in Israel and the right wing Brixton nail bomber David Copeland in the UK. S2 Ep 12The Black Spy Podcast - Season 2, episode 0001

The Black Spy Podcast, Season 2, episode 0001 'Brexit, empire, the Traitor King & paedophilia in high office' This hard hitting discussion with author, publisher, historian and the best selling literary agent in the world, Andrew Lownie, delves deep into Britain's past present and future, as uncomfortable histories are brought out into the cold light of day. From skeletons in the Royal cupboard - treachery with Hitler and paedophilia at the highest military rank – to the Empire, Brexit and free trade verses protectionism the discussion freely meanders around the question of what are actual state and national security secrets as opposed to attempts to prevent 'individual' embarrassment. The episode also discusses changes in the British civil service, the increased prominence of SPADs (Special Advisors) and the competence of ministers within the British governmental system. Moreover, the programme assesses the importance of Scotland Yard's Special Branch as a one time long standing security service within the 'British police'. Furthermore, the discussion touches on the danger to all British intelligence and security services, of outing MPSB officers. As, if the UK can out its own clandestine officers, then how future agents have confidence that British intelligence will protect them. Such actions are a clear death knell, for any country's intelligence and security agencies. In this extended episode listeners truly learn how difficult it normally is to gain an insight into the secret world as Andrew explains what he did to gain the knowledge he required to write his in-depth biographies. If you're seriously interested in the clandestine world, this episode is a must hear and its revelations will inform and educate many, if not most listeners about matters long hidden from view. Andrew now awaits the result of a very personally expensive legal adjudication concerning he right to obtain access to Lord Mountbatten's public dairies. Papers which could shine an even brighter light on some of his questionable activities! Carlton intends to have Andrew back on The Black Spy Podcast when this occurs. S2 Ep 11The Black Spy Podcast welcome to season Two review

The Black Spy Podcast, Season 2, episode 0000 'Listeners questions, a review of last season and the themes going forward' Season Two of The Black Spy Podcast blasts off with the Black Spy answering the most asked questions from season One. Posed by Dan, his web director, Carlton answers the questions in depth utilising examples from his clandestine life. Dan kicks off by asking Carlton about the coming season, so he spokes of Patreon and outlines guests such as Author, literary agent and publisher Andrew Lownie, the number one selling agent in the world. Carlton is asked to provide his opinion of some of the best and most realistic espionage, undercover and protection orientated movies. Dan also asks if, like in the US with the Patriot Act, whether post 9/11 Carlton and colleagues in Special Branch, MI5 and MI6 obtained extra powers to bug and surveil suspects? Carlton fully explains his answer to this question and highlights the difference between the UK and the USA in this sphere. An answer to one of Dan's questions elicits two examples from Carlton's past operations including his actions against an IRA hit team (aka Active Service Unit) and the shooting of a Palestinian assassin who shot the Israeli Ambassador in London. Carlton speaks of the duplicity of politicians, and provides examples of this as regards the above mentioned operations and the fact that he was head hunted to take on the role as head of the Iraqi Mukhabarat (Secret Police or Special Branch) after the invasion of Iraq. Carlton also answers questions concerning the validity of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Would he have advised undertaking them? He's asked about the support of Saddam Hussein for some Palestinian terror groups and the activities of Israel and its secret services in Israel and the occupied territories. Dan also asks about the genesis of the Palestinian, Israeli conflict. Dan questions Carlton concerning his firearms training as a secret agent? Carlton explains the different between the general limited level of firearms training in MI6, as opposed to the high degree of firearms training in some sections of Scotland Yard's Special Branch and subsequently SO1 Specialist Protection. Carlton explains the concept of horses of courses and the need for firearms training etc. This is a far reaching extended episode around several themes of revision and setting the scene for future episodes with guests from varied walks of life such as: the gaming industry, a doctor in the UK prison establishment dealing with serial killers and drug abusers, 'A' list actors, a Premier League footballer, a leading drug, sex and abuse worker, a professional boxer, a major City (of London) financier, a TV & Movie producer, a top paparazzi and a man who made a fortune in crypto currency and lost it. S1 Ep 10From Life With The Queen Mother to Selling Gold with Jayne Bond

In the week's episode of the Black Spy Podcast, Carlton discusses the incredible life of Jayne Bond, a woman who was born into difficult circumstances on an Ipswich council estate (somewhat akin to the projects in the USA), but would end up with her fingers in many pies, from gold to diamonds, jewellery, to promotions, mental health charities to the British Football Association. Listeners also learn how Jayne first worked for the British Royal family at the Queen Mother's residence – Clarence House, before, through a series of incredible twists and turns, embarking on a career in buying and selling Jewellery. Using her innate capacity to simply 'make things happen and an ability to learn and meet challenges head on in a man's industry, Jayne nevertheless became an accomplished and profitable buyer. In the course of their discussion, listeners will later hear how Jayne diversified into gold and diamonds and the effect that 9/11 had on the gold trade. S1 Ep 8A Life of Secrets and Strife with Colonel Cummings

E

In this episode of The Black Spy Podcast, Carlton King explores the life and times of African American female, retired US Army Colonel, E. W. Cummings. Listeners learn that from her earliest memories Colonel Cummings was imbibed into the covenant of official secrets. Colonel Cummings' father, an elite soldier (82nd Airborne), undertook three tours of Vietnam; returning from his last, "more dead than alive". So years later after gaining a degree from University, it was no surprise when Colonel Cummings followed in her heroic father's foot steps and joined the US military as an Army officer. After all, she believed that the desegregated US military would offer a black person the best chance of progression in the racially charged America of the 60's and 70's. However, once in the military Colonel Cummings found that it was her gender that appeared to place the greatest barriers to her achieving a successful career. Nevertheless, she explains how some well placed white male officers helped unlock her latent potential, allowing her to grow into an excellent officer and leader. We also learn that Colonel Cummings undertook an array of sensitive deployments both in the military and after her retirement, fostering and leading emergency homeland security liaison, between the military, the FBI and various other Federal Agencies. Finally, in this amazing interview, we learn of Colonel Cummings' nigh on single handed endeavour to get a congressional gold medal, awarded to the segregated 6888 unit of black female soldiers that saw active duty in Europe, during in WW2. Unfortunately, due to the racist politics of the day, the actions of 6888 were never recognised. So Colonel Cumming wishes to belatedly rectify this, taking the battle for recognition to the US Senate and the House of Representatives. This is truly another fantastic Black Spy interview from which we all can learn.
