S10 Ep 103Is Climate Change activism a woke 1st World rite of passage? (Part 2)

Is Climate Change activism a woke 1st World rite of passage? (Part 2) The Black Spy Podcast, Season 10, Episode 0009 Clearly climate change is a global issue that affects people from all walks of life and across different regions, so why does the Western and indeed much of the global media concentrate on what Western 'activists' do? It is undoubtedly a truism that climate protests have gained significant attention in developed countries, such as the Global North, it might be inaccurate to dismiss protest as simply the preserve of the trendy or privileged Global North. Although the privileged North political and military systems historically stole most of the worlds resources, those in other regions also see the dangers. Climate change poses severe threats to the environment, ecosystems, and human societies worldwide. Indeed, the impacts of climate change are already being felt by vulnerable communities, particularly those in developing countries. Therefore, climate protests are a means for people to voice their concerns, demand action from governments and corporations, and raise awareness about the urgency of addressing climate change. It is important to recognize that climate activism and awareness are not limited to any specific group or region albeit, have more opportunity in their daily lives to protest as food etc, is for them much easier to come by. That said, People from all around the world, including those in developing countries, are actively engaged in climate advocacy, participating in protests where possible and pushing for sustainable solutions. The fight against climate change requires global cooperation and inclusive participation from all nations, regardless of their socio-economic status. However, what is true is that activists in the Global South pay a real price for their actions, whereas their comrades in the North are generally saved from any significant actual deprivations. S10 Ep 101The geo-politics of obesity with Dr. Rachel Taylor (Part Two)

The geo-politics of obesity with Dr. Rachel Taylor (Part Two) The Black Spy Podcast, Season 10, Episode 0007 This week Carlton and Firgas assess the politics behind the global obesity pandemic with special guest Dr. Rachel Taylor. S10 Ep 99Is Britain's education system fit for purpose in the 21st century? (Part 2)

Is Britain's education system fit for purpose in the 21st Century? (Part 2) The Black Spy Podcast, Season 10, Episode 0005 This week's Black Spy Podcast Part 2 continues to deal with the question of, Is Britain's education system fit for purpose in the 21st century? In part one of this discussion we delve into is the way that Britain's education system has an over reliability on a small number of elitist private schools in terms of providing Britain it most perceived educated cadre. However the Black Spy Podcast questions whether these private, also known as public schools in Britain, create the type of technically educated people we require in the 21st century. We also examine the slant towards students from these school gaining privileged access to top UK universities such as Oxford, Cambridge and St Andrews Universities etc (aka. The Russell group top flight UK universities) when compared to students from regular state schools. Carlton king and Fergus Esack bring on the show Fergus' mother, Eva Strauss, who is a PhD educator in a top class private public school and a state registered examination examiner, in a fascinating and widespread discussion on all aspects of Britain's education system. This debate looks into the business, public sector and private sector needs for educated employees in this era of technological change. So, we also touch on what effect artificial intelligence will have on education in Britain and elsewhere in the world, and whether Britain will have the skills to compete. The team also consider whether actually obtaining educational knowledge is necessary in an era when one can simply Google everything in an instant. The team also ask if hand writing will become obsolete in the coming decades. So, once again Carlton and Fergus go to places that most podcasts hosts don't do, yet still manage to make the show entertaining, interesting and educational. S10 Ep 96"The manopause", is it a real phenomenon? (Part 2)

"The manopause", is it a real phenomenon? (Part 2) The Black Spy Podcast, Series 10, Episode 0002 This is part two of last week's Black Spy Podcast feature Dr Rachel Taylor on the subject of the male man-o-pause, whether it's a real phenomenon and what it means for the world. However, Firgas Esack and Carlton don't just keep to the proposition, but look at the geo-politics surrounding the male manopause and frankly the West's intentions to remake human kind in the West's ideological perspective. Doctor Rachel Taylor is a neuroscientist who specialises in, as she says, transforming human beings. Her special passion is working with people who just find living in an increasingly abnormal environment too difficult. She researches, develops and facilitates processes to support anyone in understanding why they are, the way they are, in order to help them be who they wish to be. Doctor Rachel says ideally she'd want everyone to know that they do not need to wait for permission to create the life that they want to live, they just need to decide for themselves that this is what they want to do. S9 Ep 10Will AI cause the death of handwriting

Will AI facilitate the demise of handwriting The Black Spy Podcast, Series 9, Episode 0010 Today's Black Spy Podcast was effectively chosen for us by listener, Rick Elmer. Rick wrote in wishing to feature on the show. Rick is an ex professional NFL-US football player and now CEO of his own company that produces unique copies of a person's actual handwriting. Rick system then expands on the sample by utilising AI to provide a personal handwritten. I thought Rick had a great story to tell, so I invited him on the show. Unfortunately, Rick was unable to attend the recording, so Firgas and I retained the subject matter, expanded on it, and have placed it within the geo-political context of handwriting being effected by the unstoppable march of AI etc. Regular listeners will know that from our inception the Black Spy Podcast has critically observed these technologies. This is why we have returned to the potential catastrophic problems that AI could cause, and/or wonderous opportunities AI could unleash on the world, in many previous episodes. Hence, here at the Black Spy Podcast we have reported on AI, Machine Learning, Fintech and military/secret intelligence usage of such technologies in this vain, way before many other commentators who are just now seeing the potential dangers for human kind. So consequently, this is again another excellent, entertaining and educational Black Spy Podcast. If you haven't already, don't forget to subscribe to The Black Spy Podcast to never miss an episode. S9 Ep 93BREXIT - This is what LEAVERS voted for (Part 2)

BREXIT This is what Leavers voted for! (Part 2 ) The Black Spy Podcast, Series 9, Episode 0009 Brexit was arguably the greatest instance of self-harm undertaken by a nation in the modern era that did not involve warfare. And now, the primary initial architect, Nigel Farage, complains that Brexit has been a failure. Yes, like a snake oil salesman Farage argues he knows what would have made Brexit a success. And could easily have implemented these 'sunlight upland policies, albeit he does not state what they would have been. However, like all the Brexit salesmen and women who have subsequently slivered away - Boris Johnson, David Frost, Michael Gove, Kate Hoey, Dominic Cummings, Gisela Stuart and Daniel Hannan - they take no responsibility for the disaster. Carlton and Firgas assess the lies told, outside of the primary massive disingenuous lie regarding the whole sail deportation of so called immigrants from the UK that Brexit would bring about. Many Brexit votes believed that Brexit would mean the deportation of Black and Brown Britons. Indeed back early 2016 Carlton argued in his YouTube podcast, that Brexit would mean more Black and Brown immigrants, as Europeans left Britain, not less. In part two of this two part podcast we expand and further explore the geo-political lies put daily to a British population who knew nothing of the EU's positive aspects and framework. So, please listen, consider and feel free to contact the Black Spy to challenge the analysis he espouses. S9 Ep 91Critical Thinking - Gender Crisis - A Woman's View (Part 2)

Critical Thinking - Gender Crisis - A Woman's View (Part 2) The Black Spy Podcast Season 9, Episode 0007 The advent of culture wars in government, the boardroom, public services and even its trickle down into societal norms has changed the West in particular. This week we have part 2 of one woman's view (Firgas Esack) of this gender clash in discussion with Carlton King. This podcast follows Carlton's previous critical thinking episodes in which the he argued that Trump and Johnson are the unintended consequences of the old guard - white men (however in reality, wealthy and/or 'traditionalist' white men and women) - clinging on to power by instigating othering and appealing to nativist sentiments. Hence, in this week's Critical Thinking episode, the Black Spy explores what he believes is one of the most crucial outward changes in society, fostered by these single issue 'cultural' affiliations - the conflict between the genders. Truthfully however, the struggle for societal peace is being destabilised on a much broader basis than just gender; as the same drivers are at work regarding racism, class inequality, ageism, religious antagonism, widening income disparity, sexual politics, gender assignment, nativism and indeed countless other differential imbalances or societal prejudices. But, the question is, are these laudable struggles, being taken to far? And are they even factual in concept? Carlton hones in on gender, as it is the largest of these fault lines to assess this battle field. In short, Carlton asks if the West is engaged in a destructive individualism, where everybody knows their rights, but few seem to have an understanding of their collective obligations. Carlton believes this situation is feed by a lack of knowledge of our real history and the position held by the vast majority of our ancestors. Carlton also asks if those obtaining the greatest advantage out of these various struggles, are the ones who have actually suffered the least from prejudice limiting their opportunities and are indeed often those who have always reaped the benefits of society. These are the people seem to who utilise the past disadvantages suffered by others, generally of the lower classes, to once again reap the profits caused by these societal fissures. So, please listen, consider and feel free to contact the Black Spy to challenge the analysis he and Firgas seem to espouse. What's the cost of the Royal family to British citizens? Do Royals pay taxes? Are the Royals fiscally accountable to the British state? Are the Royals criminally accountable or do they stand above the law? The above points, in addition to recollections of moments with King Charles, are recounted by the Black spy and his professional journalistic and publicist podcast partner, Firgas Esack in this and last week's podcast. In the coming fascinating discussion from the perspective of National Security, Secret Intelligence, societal norms, societal changes, media nuanced geo-politics and the perceived or actual feel of the British people vis-a-vis the coming coronation and its real world implications for the UK: Do the Royal family matter? Do those who swear an oath to the King do so in all consequence? What does this oath swearing potentially mean for the oath takers within British society? What does the coronation mean for the Royals? What's the wealth of the Royals? What do we (British citizens) pay for their services? Do Royals pay taxes? S9 Ep 87Critical Thinking - Gender Crisis (Culture Wars)

Critical Thinking Gender Crisis (Culture Wars) The Black Spy Podcast Season 9, Episode 0003 The advent of culture wars in government, the boardroom, public services and even its trickle down into societal norms, has changed the West in particular. Indeed the Black Spy argues that Trump and Johnson are the unintended consequences of the old guard - white men (however in reality, wealthy and/or 'traditionalist' white men and women) - clinging on to power by instigating othering and appealing to nativist sentiments. But, are these often laudable struggles being taken to far? And are they factual in conception? Carlton hones in on gender, as it is the largest of these fault lines to assess the battle field. In short, the West is engaged in a destructive individualism, where everybody knows their rights, but seem to have limited understanding of their collective obligations. Carlton believes this situation is feed by a lack of knowledge of our real history and the position held by the vast majority of our ancestors. Carlton also asks if those obtaining the greatest advantage out of these various struggles, are the ones who have actually suffered from opportunity limiting prejudice or, if its those who have always reaped the benefits, who utilise the past disadvantages suffered by others to once again reap the profits caused by these societal fissures. So, please listen, consider and feel free to contact the Black Spy to challenge the analysis he espouses. And, don't forget to subscribe to The Black Spy Podcast to never miss an episode. S9 Ep 2The NHS Murders (Part2) - Lucy Letby & so many others

The NHS Murders (Part1) - Lucy Letby & so many others The Black Spy Podcast Season 9, Episode 0002 This week's Black Spy Podcast discusses the unbelievable number of murders committed by on duty NHS medical staff in the UK. Furthermore, the Black Spy discusses the fact that even though these murders are frequent they receive very little overall press analysis and unlike the hounding received by the police for one (1) murder (performed by an off duty officer), the institution of the NHS is seldom challenged by established British mass media! So what is the frequency of murders by on duty NHS staff and why do the British media treat the two public bodies so differently? In an insightful, interesting and powerful discussion by the Black Spy, Carlton King and his regular journalist podcast partner, Firgas Esack, the present case of Lucy Letby accused of allegedly murdering 10 babies and attempting to murder a further 7, is put under the microscope. So, when I say NHS murders, the NHS murderers below are an example of this literally unbelievable phenomena of UK medics murdering their patients whilst on duty in hospitals etc, over the last two decades. Carlton asks Firgas, why no great hue and cry in media(TV, radio or printed press) or demonstrations from pressure groups about these NHS murders? • Nurse Beverley Allitt murdered 4 infants, at Grantham hospital, attempted to murder three others and caused grievous bodily harm to a further six infants no demonstrations were held and no great inquiry was sought into the NHS or its leadership! • Nurse Lucy Letby's alleged murders of 7 babies and a further attempted murder of 10 more happened at the same time as Sarah Everarad's murder by a police officer. This single murder by a police officer totally and utterly gains practically all of the press coverage. Letby's 7 murders and 10 attempted murders of babies, are seemingly all but overlooked by a police bating British press! In this case babies seem not to matter too much to the press and definitely the press seems totally unwilling to hold NHS leadership, even at the most junior level of hospital management, to account. • Nurse Colin Campbell Norris murdered 10 of his patients and attempted to murder at least one other. • Nurse Benjamin Geen murdered at least 2 patients in an Oxfordshire hospital where many other victims did not die, but sustained grave life threatening symptoms at his hands. • Nurse Victorino Chua of Stockport Stepping Hill hospital murdered 2 of his patients and 21 others potential murder victims suffered life threatening hypoglycemia attacks at his hands. • Dr Harold Shipman, from his Manchester surgery, murdered at least 250 of his patients. Yet it is though that over a decade he might well have murdered up to 500 patients. • Surgeon Simon Bramhall regularly signed his initials on patients livers as he operated on them. • Surgeon Ian Patterson was found guilty of operating on countless patients, mainly women, for seemingly no reason. He disfigured his patients by removing their breast etc., which was allegedly done for financial gain according to the relatively little press there was in comparison to the David Carrick police case. Note there is no suggestion that doctors and nurses can not be trusted despite the gravity of the offences and multiple serial murders undertaken by the above medics performing their daily duties. Also, at no stage have NHS chiefs appeared on TV, radio or written in periodicals apologising for the the 'canteen culture' of their profession, that keeps allowing mass murder in hospitals and via doctors surgeries. Once again, we hope listeners will learn from today's podcast whilst also being entertained! Don't forget to subscribe to The Black Spy Podcast to never miss an episode. Matt Hancock, Isabel Oakeshott and the What'app revelations (Part2) The Black Spy Podcast Season 8, Episode 0009 In last week's Podcast I stated that it's an accepted truism that the first casualty of war is truth! Well in this week's podcast, the same is true, but one can substitute the word politicians for war. Therefore this week's podcast looks at Matt Hancock, his time as the Secretary of State for health during the Covid19 pandemic and the book ghost written by Isabel Oakeshott utilising the now famous What'sapp messages passed to Isabel by Hancock. My partner in crime Firgas Esack and I explore these now famous What'sapp messages whilst we discuss the use politicians make of the platform and why. Meanwhile, Firgas explains the press perspective on a story and indeed I challenge her as to why the press choses one story over another and why we tend to be less informed whilst propaganda seemingly reigning supreme. So, once again the Black Spy asks you not only to listen and be entertained, but also if you wish to contact him or Firgas to challenge his or her analysis. S8 Ep 79The Nicola Bulley incident - Is it an example of how the British Press are out to trash the reputation of the Police (Part2)

The Nicola Bulley incident - Is it an example of how the British Press are out to trash the reputation of the Police (Part2) The Black Spy Podcast Season 8, Episode 0006 This week's Black Spy Podcast discusses a worrying trend of the seemingly incessant drip feeding of negative stories by all forms of the established media against the police. These stories are so biased that many capable individuals are put off from pursuing a career in the police. Consequently, recruitment is extremely difficult with the consequences for British society being grave. One should remember that the police alone in British society, are prohibited from striking due to## a 100 year old law put in place by Sir Winston Churchill. Two years ago an off duty police officer, Wayne Couzens, murdered young executive, Sarah Everard. This sent the press into a frenzy. Then, last year another off duty police officer, David Carrick, was arrested for raping several of life partners at various time over a period of years. Prior to joining the police, both officers had previously served in the British Army, so were seen by police recruiters of being of good conduct. Although both offenders committed their offences off duty, in both cases the press suggested that the most important factor was that these individuals were police officers. The press also extrapolated that female members of the public, in particular, were not safe around police officers in general, on duty or off duty. Articles and unending columns inches were devoted to these incidents and to the 'so called police culture' they suggested spawned the incidents. The copious column inches however, neglected to say that at least a third of all police officers are women and over 42% of all new police recruits are women. Plus, more importantly, presently 40% of all British police Chief Constables are women. Strangely however, the press is nearly silent when it comes to the murderous behaviour of other professions, drawing little or no connection with their employment even when this is a major factor in their crimes. For example, in the last decade or so, nurses, on duty, have murdered tens of their patients in the UK - to practically no hue and cry in the press or media of any kind (TV, radio or printed). • Nurse Beverley Allitt murdered numerous babies at Grantham Hospital. • Nurse Lucy Letby, at the same time as Sarah Everarads death was being fully exposed in the press, was charged with murdering 7 babies and attempting to Murder 10 others! • Nurse Colin Campbell Norris murdered 10 of his patients and attempted to murder at least one other. • Nurse Benjamin Geen murdered at least 2 patients in an Oxfordshire hospital where others victims sustained grave life threatening symptoms at his hands. • Nurse Victorino Chua of Stockport Stepping Hill hospital murdered 2 of his patients and 21 others potential murder victims suffered life threatening hypoglycemia attacks at his hands. Frankly the list goes on. This is not to mention: • Dr Harold Shipman who two decades ago in Manchester, murdered at least 250 of his patients. However, unlike the hue and cry in two police cases, the press has not suggested at any stage that all doctors and nurses can not be trusted despite the gravity of the offences committed multiple serial murders by these very many more medic. Moreover, all these offences were committed whilst all these medical professionals were performing their duties. Its also worth noting that at no stage have NHS chiefs come on TV and radio or written in the press apologies for the the 'culture' of their profession that keeps allowing these mass murders to continue. Seemingly it is only the police who are seen as dangerous, misogynistic and racist. Could it be that the press considers police as working class plebs, but nurses a positive contributors to society and doctors, as fellow upper middle class professionals. Or is it just an inexplicable oversight by the press? These and other issues are discussed in this week's Black Spy Podcast featuring long term national media journalist Firgas Esack. S8 Ep 78Part 2 Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning - A Gift to the wellbeing of the planet or a Curse to humankind

Part 2 Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning A Gift to the well being of the planet or a Curse to humankind The Black Spy Podcast Season 8, Episode 0004 This week's Black Spy Podcast discusses Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, and Machine Learning with Firgas Esack and fellow national news media Journalist, Sally Brockway; regarding these rapidly advancing fields that have the potential to significantly impact the future. We consider the positives and negatives of these fields. In the coming years, we can expect to see significant advancements in these fields, which will bring both major opportunities and potential existential threats. The future of AI is particularly exciting as it has the potential to revolutionize the way we live, work, and interact with each other. AI has already shown tremendous promise in fields such as healthcare, finance, and transportation, and its impact is only set to grow in the coming years. For example, AI-powered systems are already being used to diagnose diseases, analyse financial data, and control autonomous vehicles. The future of AI is likely to see it becoming even more integrated into our daily lives, with AI systems performing a wider range of tasks, from scheduling appointments to helping us make important decisions. The future of robotics is also very promising. Robotics technology has come a long way in recent years, with robots now being able to perform a wide range of tasks, from manufacturing to search and rescue operations. The future of robotics is likely to see even more advanced robots, capable of performing complex tasks with greater accuracy and efficiency. This will lead to a wide range of benefits, including improved productivity and efficiency, as well as the creation of new jobs in fields such as robotics engineering and maintenance. Machine learning is another field that is set to play a significant role in shaping the future. Machine learning is a subset of AI that involves training computers to learn from data and make predictions or decisions based on that data. The future of machine learning is likely to see it being used in an ever-increasing range of applications, from fraud detection to personalized recommendations. Machine learning will also play a critical role in advancing the field of AI, allowing AI systems to become more intelligent and better able to understand and respond to the needs of their users. In conclusion, the future of artificial intelligence, robotics, and machine learning is very exciting, with the potential to bring about significant advancements in a wide range of fields. However, whilst this is all true, there are potential massive challenges to be faced along the way. And, although the benefits of these technologies could far outweigh the costs, leading to a future that is more productive, efficient, and interconnected, the potential threat, is the end of the human race. Listen to both episodes of this two part podcast, to find out why! Here is the robots discussion link referred to in the podcast: https://youtu.be/1y3XdwTa1cA So once again, we hope listeners will learn from today's podcast whilst also being entertained! S8 Ep 77Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning - A Gift or Curse to human kind? (Part 1)

Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning - A Gift or Curse to human kind? (Part 1) The Black Spy questions national journalists Firgas Esack and Sally Brockway. The Black Spy Podcast Season 8, Episode 0003 This week's Black Spy Podcast discusses Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, and Machine Learning with Firgas Esack and fellow national news media Journalist, Sally Brockway; regarding these rapidly advancing fields that have the potential to significantly impact the future. For example, AI-powered systems are already being used to diagnose diseases, analyze financial data, and control autonomous vehicles. S7 Ep 68Cops & Spooks - Why we treat them so differently (Part Two)

Cops & Spooks - Why we treat them so differently (Part Two) Black Spy Podcast - Season 7, Episode 0002 Season 7, continues with part 2 of the question that Carlton King and Firgas Esack posed - why police are perceived, and indeed treated, much less favourably than secret intelligence and national security officers (spies - known colloquially in the UK as spooks). To answer this question Firgas looks at the way her profession (journalism) treats the police and Carlton suggests that class may well be a reason for this, taking into account that uniquely Carlton has experienced this difference having been a senior player in both the Police and the Secret Intelligence Service. As with last week's opening show for Season 7, the show delves into the geo-politics of class. Hence in both episodes Carlton and Firgas are at pains to fully exploit and explore the question in all its guises – perceived blue collar verses white collar, national importance verses the mundane. S6 Ep 63Who decides? A sit down with Shaun Wood - Scriptwriter

Who decides? A sit down with Shaun Wood - Scriptwriter The Black Spy Podcast Season 6, Episode 0006 This week Carlton King sit down with scriptwriter Shaun Wood and asks the question "Who decides what get seen?" Due to the all pervasive nature of film and TV in modern society, this is very big question, not least because for many people the vast majority of their knowledge about the world's past, present and indeed what might even be its future, is transmitted to them via people like Shaun, be that through film, TV and to a lesser extent radio and the theatre. So, this week's sit down really matters! Carlton explores why and how Shaun got into screen writing. What his aims were/are. Asks how difficult it is for those perceived as not fitting the White, middle class, stereotype to obtain a screen writing role in the UK. Carlton seeks to establish how this lack of diversity has affected the views of everyday British citizens in relation to race, gender, class and other protected characteristics. Plus in Black history month, Carlton also asks how difficult is it for Black people to become scriptwriters in the UK? Carlton also asks whether this has changed recent years? And finally, we learn about Shaun's interesting up-bring which initially pointed him in a completely different creative direction. Once again this is a cracking episode in which all can learn as well as being entertained. S6 Ep 61Critical Thinking - Black History Month Special

The Black Spy Podcast Critical Thinking - Black History Month Special Season 6 Episode 0005 This week the Black Spy looks at Britain's Black History Month, which he helped create, and asks where its gone wrong! Carlton argues that Britain's Black month is too 20th century centric, it does not attempt to educate all Britain's about the total historic Black past and that it concentrates on the UK and the US in isolation. Does not educate Black and other citizens about the true Caribbean connection. Seemingly sees Slavery as a starting point for Black history. Does not make anything of the major connections between people of colour and Britain in Roman times, post Roman times, in the Morrish era and its connection with Britain, and throughout the centuries how blacks have been totally assimilated into Britain. Moreover, Black History Month lacks any connection with other Black European histories, plus it still peddles the belief that Black people arrived in Britain with the Windrush in 1948. This view of the Black presence, in correct view of Black people in Britain, obliterates the contribution Black soldiers military men have made in two world wars and indeed all Britain's conflicts since at least the mid 17th century. He also mentions that Black history month makes zero attempt to cover the years of Black World leadership through Ancient Egypt, Greece, particularly Crete and Black people's presence and leadership in what is the present day Middle East, India and Pakistan and connections with China and Central and South America, pre and post Slavery Finally Carlton argues that there is no attempt to define Black. Or to establish who has a right to decide who is Black. S6 Ep 61Firgas Esack of the DAPS Agency, seeks the Black Spy's thoughts on crime and policing

Firgas Esack of the DAPS Agency, seeks the Black Spy's thoughts on crime and policing The Black Spy Podcast Season 6, Episode 0004 The Black Spy, Carlton King, sits down again with journalist and publicist Firgas Esack of the DAPS Agency and considers Crime and Policing, in particular knife crime. They also assessed the latest pronouncements of the new Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, Sir Mark Rowley. The episode asks listeners if they've: Really considered the level of evidence required to find somebody guilty in a criminal case, when the legal definition to do so, in a criminal trial, is "beyond all reasonable doubt"? We also ask: Is Knife crime new? Why do people people carry knives? Will there be more crime as the economic crisis bits? Should account be taken of an individual's needs when 'criminals' are found guilty. Are there enough police to do the job? These and many more questions are debated in this great episode of the Black Spy Podcast making Season 6, Episode 0004, another must listen event. S6 Ep 60A sit down with Nazir Afzal - The first Muslim CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) Chief Prosecutor in England & Wales

The Black Spy Podcast A sit down with Nazir Afzal - The first Muslim CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) Chief Prosecutor in England & Wales This week Carlton King explores the life and times of Nazir Afzal, the renowned first Muslim Chief Prosecutor of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in England & Wales' (North West Region). The nearest equivalent body to the CPS in the United States is the District Attorney's office. We also learn about Nazir's tough up-bring in inner city Birmingham in the 1970's, his distrust of the police and other English institutions of state in the era and the depth of feeling this created within the young Nazir. We are made to understand why he decided to become a lawyer, rather than the doctor or engineer his parents hoped he'd become. And we learn about Nazir's journey into prosecuting on behalf of the British state. We also, discuss the all encompassing racism Nazir was subjected to from his very early life onward, to his somewhat more comfortable rise to the top of his profession. Finally, the men discuss a plethora of current and systemic problems suffered by the contemporary British state. Carlton points out that the CPS very rarely takes responsibility for its decisions and cites the Stephen Lawrence case as a prime example of this, noting that after Stephen Lawrence's murder the Met police within ten days had arrested four suspects, however, the crown prosecution service told police that in their opinion, their was not enough evidence to gain a conviction at court therefore police would have to release them! The suspects would all remain free for several years thereafter. The Met police would suffer greatly for not having arrested Stephen's murderers and were taunted as incompetent and institutionally racist. However, the CPS who prevented the four suspects taken to trial, took none of the blame or derision for the several year hiatus in bringing the very same suspects to trial of whom three would be found guilty. However, solely the Met Police have taken the blame for not closing the case quickly, when those at fault were the CPS. Carlton challenges Nazir to explain this anomaly! Consequently, as you can see, this is obviously another must hear Black Spy Podcast episode.
