Ep 305The Art Box - Episode 304 - "The Little Things" - Tiffany & Yori Ludvigson
What sparked this episode was a mural project my friend Tyler mentioned, one taking shape in the Special Education classroom at Virgin Valley High School. I realized, wait a minute, one of those teachers brings her class to the STEAM Center every week to dive into science and tech! A few emails later, Tiffany Ludvigson was kind enough to join us in the Mesquite Works STEAM Center recording studio to talk about her incredible work in special education. As it turns out, her husband Yori, also a powerhouse in our community, is a business teacher, athletic director at VVHS, and a fellow board member at Mesquite Works. Oh, and as if that weren’t enough, the two of them also run a high volume BBQ business. When do they sleep? That’s still a mystery. So sit back and enjoy the inspiring story of two creative, committed leaders making a real difference in our valley and the world. But in the face of chaos, our small-town heroes rose to the challenge. Through a remarkable public-private partnership, they pulled off an extraordinary feat: getting our community vaccinated. Today at the Mesquite Works STEAM Center recording studio, I sat down with Mesquite Fire & Rescue Chief Jayson Andrus and Eureka Community Initiative Director Gerri Chasko to revisit that effort. We talked about how it all came together, the many hands involved, the challenges they faced, and how those partnerships continue to strengthen our town five years later. Join us for a magical conversation on creativity with our very own Floyd Johnson and this month’s Naturally Beautiful exhibition winner, Kaylealayah Whiterose Whitefeather. Personally, I’m in heaven whenever these two inspiring souls come together to share their artistic journeys, it truly makes my heart sing. We recorded this episode just after the monthly reception in Classroom B of the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery. You’ll hear some lively background sounds as people came and went, and the open space added its own ambiance to the discussion. The Naturally Beautiful exhibition continues until March 28, so please find you way to the Mesquite Fine Arts Center located at 15 W. Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite, Nevada 89027. As a special bonus, the episode begins with Whiterose reading her Artist Profile, which will be featured during her Artist of the Month residency this summer. Be sure to visit the VVAA website for details: mesquitefineartscenter.com There’s no doubt about it, The Art Box loves Whiterose and Floyd, and it doesn’t get any better than hearing them talk about what art means to them. For you enjoyment Whiterose recited her Artist Statement and we include the text of this below. Enjoy. Why do I paint, and have kept at it for the past 4 years? Well, painting is a journey of the soul, akin to a river carving its path through the rugged terrain of existence. Each stroke of the brush becomes a pulse, a heartbeat echoing the artist's innermost thoughts and feelings. Just as a river flows from the depths of the mountains, so too does the artist delve into the caverns of their soul, unearthing the treasures of emotion and memory. The canvas stands as a blank horizon, waiting patiently for the colors to cascade like waterfalls, transforming the stark surface into a vibrant landscape of dreams and fears. In this sacred act, time dissolves, and the artist becomes both the creator and the vessel, channeling the essence of their spirit into a tangible form. As the brush dances across the canvas, it weaves a tapestry of light and shadow. Each color is a note in a symphony, resonating with the depth of the artist's soul, while the canvas serves as an open field where emotions run wild like wildflowers in spring. The act of painting is a dialogue with the universe, where the artist converses with their own heart and, in turn, invites the viewer into this intimate exchange. The strokes may be bold and assertive, or soft and whispering; they speak of courage and vulnerability, capturing the essence of what it means to be alive. In this sacred communion, the artist becomes a storyteller, translating the silent language of the soul into a visual narrative that transcends the barriers of time and space. Ultimately, the finished painting stands as a testament to the artist's journey, a mirror reflecting the countless aspects of the human experience. It invites the observer to embark on their own odyssey, to explore the emotions that lie beneath the surface. Each glance at the canvas reveals new layers, hidden depths, and uncharted territories of feeling, as if the artwork is a living entity, breathing and evolving with every viewing. In this profound exchange, the artist's soul reaches out, intertwining with the viewer's own, forging connections that span generations. The journey of painting, then, is not merely the creation of art but a pilgrimage of the heart, a celebration of life’s complexities, where every brushstroke is a step toward understanding the vast, intricate tapestry of existence.

Happy New Year. Let's start off 2025 with a Clouds in the Sand podcast we recorded in June of 2023. We have enlisted Addie to migrate selected Clouds episodes over to the Art Box this year and this her first production edit. By that measure, our friend Carol Corbet is truly an artist. Her boundless creativity and zest for life shine through, making her story one worth hearing. Here we go. A few weekends ago Steve was ever so fortunate to meet Carol at a Bureau of Land Management event in Basin and Range National Monument. We spent the first day in a group together focused on identifying flora throughout the Monument, what a fun time. Both of us being of the talkative type we quickly decided that Carol should be on our podcast. The sweetheart she is, she grabbed her partner Sue and drove to Mesquite on her birthday to chat with Linda, Dana and I. We believe you will enjoy this episode. Ep 262The Art Box - Episode 265 - Not Invisible - Meet Rex
EIn March 0f 2023, Linda and Steve launched a new podcast called Clouds in the Sand, shifting the focus from pure art to a broader exploration of the humanities. The first episode featured a conversation with our friend Rex, whom we met at the Mesquite Library Learning Center. Back then, this was where we recorded our episodes before moving into our current studio at the Mesquite Works STEAM Center. Rex, an avid and voracious reader, was often found sitting outside our door, immersed in one of the countless books he always seemed to have on hand. Over time, we formed a deep friendship with him, sharing many meaningful conversations about life, literature, art, and creativity, sometimes in the library, and other times over soup at Table of Contents. As we look ahead to 2025 and continue to grow The Art Box podcast, we have decided to retire Clouds in the Sand. However, we plan to preserve some of its episodes within The Art Box collection. We’re confident you’ll enjoy this heartfelt conversation with Rex and gain fresh insights into the richness of humanity. *Adult Content* Our 29 episodes of "Clouds in the Sand" will not disappear and can be found on Spotify or use this link: https://open.spotify.com/show/7oI5BDC0M14Zr1ytfbLC6R
