BSCC 092 - Kristy and the Dirty Diapers

E

It’s a time of rebirth in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. Out with the old, in the with the new. Dawn is dead and gone, and in her place, a new sitter must rise. And with a new sitter comes a new baby to be sat, this time in the frightening form of a video/VHS/well/water demon named Drusilla Destiny who Jack and Tanner are definitely going to keep an eye on. Sweet Pete also introduces an incredible new character called Abby Stevenson and she’s an instant favorite, but she comes with a LOT of baggage, and even though she claims to be from Long Island, her origin remains frighteningly unclear for the time being. Music Credits: “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)"(Karaoke Version) originally performed by Eurythmics “Noir Guitar” by Stevie’s Amp Shack "Vanilla Summers” by GRIID "I’ve Seen Better Days"(Karaoke Version) originally performed by Citizen King Thanks to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music and Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 091 - Farewell, Dawn

E

Get your tissues ready and put your crying hats on, Baby Nation, because this one’s a sad one! Set during the First World War, "Farewell, Dawn" follows the fortunes of the American paramedic Frederic Henry and an English nurse named Catherine Barkley. Against all odds, their love blossoms as the bombs and shrapnel explode around them, but they are ultimately doomed, not by the destruction and war where their love was born, but the quiet, aching stillness of solitude where it will eventually die. Actually, that MAY be the plot of Farewell to Arms, but it is very difficult to tell the difference between these two heartbreaking classics of American literature. Suffice it to say that Dawn is gone, and we’re just going to have to pick up the pieces and move on without her. At least Claudia was wearing something fun this week! Music credits: “Reversion,” by Myuuji “Don’t Leave Me,” by Lionel Schmitt “Jane’s Lament,” by EMSonora “Overture,” by Lionheart “Supersonic,” by Rob Gasser Thanks as always to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, and to Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 090 - Stacey and the Bad Girls

E

Extra long episode this week, Baby Nation! Tanner is back from a week in Germany, and for some reason, the boys thought it’d be a good decision to do a late night record while Tanner was still reeling from the effects of jet lag, so Jack has a really hard time keeping this one on the rails. There’s A LOT of singing. Too much singing. Sorry for all the singing. Stacey (with a soft ‘c’) or Stacey (with a hard ‘c’) (we’re not sure how it’s pronounced) has a run in with some bad girls who invite her into the seedy underworld of dingleberriness, and once it starts, the red, red wine never stops flowing. Also, we’re calling Robert the Brewdoggy now, and Stacey Sweet Toots McGill. Music Credits: “Radar Love” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by Golden Earring “Without Me” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by Eminem “Disarm” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by The Smashing Pumpkins “Mad World” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by Gary Jules “Raining” by Kai Engel “Against All Odds” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by Phil Collins “Red, Red Wine” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by UB40 “Can’t Help Falling In Love” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by UB40 “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by Boyz II Men “Duck Face” by CØDE Thanks to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music and Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 089 - Mary Anne and Camp BSC

E

What seems at first to be a very straightforward “paint-by-numbers” installment in the sitterverse (yawn: the sitters hold a day camp for some of their charges) turns out to be an intricate, surprising, and genuinely frightening origin story for Mary Anne Spier herself. As the boys pick apart the strands in this delicate tapestry woven by Ann M. Martin and the great Nola Thacker, they begin to wonder whether they’ve uncovered something that none of us were meant to know. Because this one goes all the way down, Baby Nation. All the way. Down. Some completely unwarranted and baseless slander of the fine city of Cleveland in this episode, which is still nowhere near as offensive as how many total minutes it takes Jack to get through one two-clause sentence about the B-plot of this book. Put your tinfoil hats on for this one, Baby Nation, because you’re gonna need ‘em! Music credits: “Silly Fun,” by Robert Austin “Lavender Town,” by Myuuji “Dead Silence,” by Myuuji “Love Potion,” by Fasol Prod “Link,” by Jim Yosef Thanks as always to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, and to Baby Bee Wolfkiller for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 088 - Claudia Kishi, Live From WSTO!

E

To really get this week’s episode, you’re going to need to remember a lot of the plot details from Inception, and you’re going to need to know A LOT about the short lived meme that was Dawn Siff’s Vine video resume. Oh, you’ll also probably want to have heard at least a few episodes of This American Life. So, a lot of prerequisites for this one, but it’s really worth it. Claudia gets a radio show on WSTO, Tanner delivers some very interesting factoids about terrestrial broadcast standards, Jack goes about six segments deep at one point, and we get a very special visit from a character we haven’t seen in quite some time who is taking some time off from blipping through spacetime. Music Credits: "My Sharona" MIDI "mnemonic presence" by lost-radio "Mercury" by Zookeepers & Heuse “This Is How We Do It” (Karaoke Version) originally performed by Montell Jordan "Overture" by Lionheart “You Gotta Have Theremin and Ukulele” by SquidLord "Little Wooden Church" by The Trumpeteers Thanks to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music and Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 087 - Dawn and the School Spirit War

E

There’s a ding dang civil war this week, Baby Nation (we’re saying “ding dang” now, apparently), and it looks like the beautiful friendships that we’ve been following for 83 books so far are starting to fall apart at the seams. We always knew that something was going to be the catalyst for the BSC apocalypse we witnessed in this book but never in a million years could either of us have predicted that it was going to be Mary Anne’s pajamas. And to make matters worse, the civil war between the baby-sitters isn’t the only war brewing – there’s the terrifying battle of the ghosts and spirits referenced in the title, the internal crisis of faith that Dawn is undergoing, and a bit of a "war of words” (if you’ll indulge me) between our hosts about whether or not Ann is explicitly referencing the Marvel Universe in this text (she is). Stick around for some seriously glorious antics from Alan Gray and the debut of a brand new song from Superbrat. Music credits: “New Dawn,” by Rise Studios “The End,” by MotionRide “Phantom Phone Call,” by Superbrat Thanks as always to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, and to Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 086 - Stacey vs. the BSC

E

Ding Dong, Baby Nation! The witch is dead! Which old witch? Stacey McGill, that’s who! This week Stacey gets into a big fight with all the other members of the Baby-sitter’s Club and they finally do the right thing and cut her loose. And, listen, Tanner isn’t here to say that he told you so, BUT HE TOLD YOU SO! Other talking points include whether or not pineapple is an appropriate topping for pizza (it’s not), a new light-bringer pulling the strings in Stoneybrook, and something else that seemed notable… I can’t quite remember what it was now… I was so distracted throughout the episode by the cooing and crying of a newborn baby that I’m having trouble recalling what the last big piece of news was. Oh well! Guess you’ll have to listen and find out for yourself. Music credits: “March” by Kai Engel “One Moment In Time” (Karaoke Version) originally by Whitney Houston “I Will Follow Him” (Karaoke Version) originally from the Sister Act soundtrack “Overture” by Lionheart “We Are” by Kisma Thanks to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music and Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 085 - Jessi and the Troublemaker

E

Looks like we’ve got a Troublemaker gumming up the works this week, Baby Nation! But who, or what, is it? Surely it isn’t sweet, innocent leukemia survivor Danielle Roberts? Might it somehow be that bad, negligent babysitter Stacey McGill? She has been acting VERY strangely of late. Or, and just hear us out here … is there ANY chance that it could be ‘90s Canadian rap and reggae artist Darrin Kenneth O’Brien (aka “Snow”)? Probably not, frankly, but your boys are willing to consider all the options. Including the troubling possibility that we’re dealing with something even more sinister. That the nefarious troublemaking duo Ann M. Martin and Nola Thacker are forcing us to confront … The Nameless Shadow That Devours Us All. Whatever it is, there’s only one thing we truly can be sure of this week: This is all Jessi Ramsey’s fault. And we have the receipts to prove it. Music credits: “A Matter of Honor,” by ThePrimeCronus II “You Gotta Have Theremin and Ukulele,” by Squidlord “Time Police,” by ErikMMusic “The Prophecy,” by Fox Beat Thanks as always to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, and to Superbrat for the outro music. BSCC 084 - Kristy and Mr. Mom

E

This week, after father of three Jack Butler loses his job at the Ford Motor Company, he is forced to become a stay-at-home dad when his wife, Caroline, takes a job as a high-powered executive at a prestigious ad agency in Detroit. No wait, that’s the plot of 1983’s Mr. Mom. Shit. Uh, well… pretty much the same thing happens in this book, except it’s Watson Brewer, and he doesn’t lose his job, but he does have a heart attack. (He's fine.) BSCC 083 - Super Special 012 - Here Come the Bridesmaids

E

Here come the bridesmaids, and there goes our sense of basically everything that is right and decent, because Tanner decided we needed to read a Super Special, OUT OF ORDER, this week to make sense of whatever the hell is going on in our next BSC book, Kristy and Mr. Mom. So here we are at this "coast 2 coast wedding orgy," with plenty of brides but not quite enough bridesmaids, as Mary Anne is about to discover to her eternal dismay. All that being said, Ann is kind of burying the lede here, because something else is coming in this book, something that is vastly more frightening and dangerous than even the most diabolical of bridesmaids. Though, to be fair, if she’d called this one “Here Comes the Terror Clown,” it might have hurt the sales a bit. Enjoy! Music credits: “Beautiful Reasons,” by Jonny Easton “Carnival Lament,” by Robert Austin “Overture,” by Lionheart “The Prophecy,” by Fox Beat “Elegy of Death,” by Robert Austin Thanks as always to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, and to Baby Bee Wolfkiller for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 082 - Mallory Pike, #1 Fan

E

This week’s book is a clear cry for help from the Primarch of Princeton herself, and Ann – if you’re reading this – we hear you! And if you’re open to notes, we want to let you know that writing a step-by-step guide on how to stalk children's books authors is maybe not the best approach for dealing with your isolation and loneliness. But we’re just humble podcasters. What do we know? Music Credits: “Swing Lo” by Podington Bear “Awaken from a Nightmare” by Dementia “DEAD_LINE” by daPlaque "Bow to Your Neighbor (Excerpt)” by Steven Arntson "Entrance to the Queen of Sheba for Two Oboes, Strings” by Georg Friedrich Händel "Holding Hands" by Podington Bear “My Sharona” MIDI Thanks to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, Baby Bee Kelsey for the “Jack Googles" theme, and Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 081 - Mary Anne Breaks the Rules

E

Babies and Gentlemen of the jury – over the course of this episode, we are going to present you with nothing but the facts of the case. You’re going to hear about Logan’s deceitful charm, about Alan Gray’s clever ruse, about the witches who walk among us in plain sight, and about William Blake’s critical analysis of Paradise Lost. And when all is said and done, when you have heard all that there is to hear, when the truth has been brought into the light, you are going to have no choice but to mete out justice according to the sacred laws of our great Nation of Babies. You are going to have no choice but to ACQUIT MARY ANNE SPIER OF ALL CHARGES. Because Mary Anne has broken no rules, Baby Nation! Unless there is a rule against loving too much. BSCC 080 - Claudia and Crazy Peaches

E

This week, the boys navigate some choppy waters together because Claudia’s crazy aunt Peaches comes to town for an extended visit, and things get a little “very special episode” for a hot second. Tanner manages to give birth to something of his own, just beating out the Shepherd family’s little bundle of joy, and learns a lot of really terrifying jump rope rhymes that he’s excited to teach Lil’ Jack someday. Music credits: “We Make A Good Team” by Podington Bear “Chrysalis” by Podington Bear “Creepy Atmo” by David Szesztay "creepy girl chanting” by theartisticfellow “Hundred Years in Helheim” by Tri-Tachyon “Undone" (feat. BSCC 079 - Dawn and Whitney, Friends Forever

E

It’s another episode of your favorite show, The We Heart Kids Club Club, a podcast in which your hosts, Half Pipe and Weed Lord (oof, sorry, I think we’re stuck with this now) talk about the classic series of novels about Maggie Blume, Jill Something or other, and new babysitter, Dawn Read Schafer. This week, the boys make some sweet, sweet brain babies together, and before they go any further, they’d like to formally apologize both for the metaphor and for the horrifying results of that particular experiment. But the show must go on, and there's lots to talk about this week, including Dawn’s dad’s exciting love life, the battle between the Barretts and the DeWitts across the country in Stoneybrook, Connecticut, and the fact that Baby-Sitters Club Art Director Hodges Soileau may just have outdone himself this time … Music credits: “Teenage Freakout,” by Mules “Never Coming Back,” by Enya Hall “The Fate of the Galaxy,” by Luke West “Journey,” by Tom Spander “If I Could Fly,” by Jonny Easton Thanks to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, Baby Bee Carys for the "Soileau You Into the Dark" Theme, and Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 078 - Stacey's Lie

E

This week the boys become intimately familiar with the work of Suzanne Weyn, or should I say, Suz-ANN! Have any of you ever seen Ann and Suzanne in the same room at the same time? Didn’t think so. Nice try, Ann, but we’re on to you. Stacey is back in the dog house, Claudia is back to being eternal sad, and the Pikes continue to deliver the best burns in the business. Music Credits: “Nocturne Op 15 No 3” by Podington Bear “That Kid in Fourth Grade Who Really Liked the Denver Broncos” by Chris Zabriskie "Cut The Check” by Spitfya x Desembra As always, special thanks to Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, and to Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 077 - Jessi and the Horrible Prank

E

Finally, the episode everyone has been waiting for – a 1-hour extravaganza devoted exclusively to BSC fan favorite character Michael P. Trout (the computer science teacher that Jessi has in this one book and who never appears in the series again). We get into all things Trout this week, answer all your burning Trout questions, and speculate, briefly, about whether Trout died for our sins so that we may all be saved. For folks who aren’t Trout superfans, never fear, because Tanner manages to shoehorn the Stormlight Archive into this, and Jack, not to be outdone, gets a whole minute on T.S. Eliot before anyone can stop him. And of course, there’s dolls, dinosaurs, and a truly sick burn on Claudia. Music credits: “Letting Go,” by Nicolai Heidlas “Morning Walk,” by Jonny Easton “Best Dramatic Music Ever,” by JonathanChiu21 “Through the Woods We Ran,” by Vindsvept “Stardust,” by Foxbeat “Super Circus,” by Kevin MacLeod “Reflection,” by Whitesand Thanks to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, and to Baby Bee Wolfkiller for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 076 - Kristy and the Copycat

E

Happy belated birthday, Ann! Jack and Tanner got you a present! It’s this podcast. Sorry. This week, the boys find common ground with Warhammer 40k/classical antiquity, and a new love for potential sentient canine and BSC ghostwriter, Nola Thacker. And Ann's isn’t the only birth worth celebrating this week, because Nola also brings about the existence of FIRE this week by introducing a purging flame to the Sitterverse. Also, Jack’s cigarette smoking is becoming a problem. Jack, if you’re reading this, please get help. BSCC 075 - Mary Anne and Miss Priss

E

Welcome to the "Jahnna N. Malcolm Hate Podcast," a podcast in which two small-minded men viciously, slanderously, and unfairly malign the beloved children’s literature of the entity known as Jahnna N. Malcolm, whose only crime is their deep love for one another and for making the world a better place by entertaining children and enriching their lives. In slightly better news, Mallory’s back in action, but the Baby-Sitters are still down one, and The Dolls are gaining power as they tighten the noose on the sleepy little town of Stoneybrook. And Baby Nation: If you learn one thing from this podcast, learn this: Don’t. Trust. Dolls. E

Welcome to another installment of the We ♥ Kids Club Club, a podcast in which your two hosts, Weed Lord and Half-pipe, discuss the works of Peter Lerangis and Ann M. Martin: The We ♥ Kids Club books. This week, there's a new character in Palo City, a naughty dingleberry named Dawn Schafer who creates trouble everywhere she goes with her militant environmentalism, hatred for love, and willingness to steal and lie her way back home. Palo City, California hasn't had a character this explosive since the Fire Elementals came to town. Music Credits: "Teenage Freakout” by Mules "The Beach! BSCC: Little Sister - Karen's School Picture

E

Y’all, the boys were pretty sauced for this episode. But that’s OK because it’s a Little Sister, Little Episode, where things are fast, loose, fun, and frisky. And despite all of that speed and friskiness, Jack and Tanner pull off some hard-hitting investigative journalism about the cold case of the missing Delaney family, a thoughtful and informed discussion about the state of modern bone medicine, and a poignant analysis of Karen Brewer's complex and morally fraught relationship with "Icky" Ricky "The Tower" Torres. Also, Jack says the phrase “mediate our experience” about 50 times, so brace yourselves. BSCC 073 - Claudia and the Perfect Boy

E

If there is such a thing in the world as a Perfect Boy, what would he be like? Would he be like Rand al Thor, from Robert Jordan’s tedious and bloated Wheel of Time saga? Would he be like Robyn or Rand Miller, the brothers behind the 1993 graphic adventure puzzle video game Myst? Or would he be more like Gary Gygax himself, the troubled but brilliant creator of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing experience? Claudia’s too busy assembling what may be her most ambitious outfit ever to do real justice to these questions about the Perfect Boy, so Jack and Tanner do their very best to muddle through on her behalf. Major, MAJOR spoilers for the movie Seven, starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and the head of Gwyneth Paltrow. BSCC 072 - Stacey and the Cheerleaders

E

This week, two inept hosts who WERE NOT born during a storm NOR during a Super Bowl game try their very best to describe and discuss a Baby-Sitters Club book written by two beautiful storm-touched souls. And there’s no sign more clear that Jack and Tanner are starting to lose their credibility than the fact that they’re “coming around” on Stacey. Can you believe that?! Stacey meets a new boy called Robert, and together, they drain the swamp and dismantle the corrupt establishment that is SMS’s sports program. They’re real nine-one-ones. (nine-elevens?) Welcome to “Pike Check,” our hit new BSCC-spinoff podcast about how ridiculously handsome Mallory’s dad John Pike is. We think this one has a lot of legs, just like John. This episode also contains the definitive diss track that the BSC ghostwriter known as “The Entity Known as Jahnna N. E

This episode is a time for somber reflection, as the boys gently, diplomatically, and eloquently allow Ann to hear (in the most thoughtful and sober way possible) exactly why what she did to Dawn WILL NEVER BE OK, ANN. NEVER. Also this week, Hodges has gone completely off the deep end, and Jack and Tanner follow him merrily over the edge with a whole slew of powerful and dynamic new segments. It’s a real sewing circle jerk this week, Baby Nation (to use a technical term), and if you happen to be into that sort of thing AND you’re a fan of the 1990 fantasy graphic adventure game “Loom,” this one's really going to be right in your sweet spot. But there’s still plenty to love even for folks who are on the fence about weaving, sewing and weaving/sewing-based videogames because the boys have a whole lot to say about Nicky Pike’s dalliance with the dark side, Dawn’s “looming" departure from the BSC, and the increasingly delightful antics of new fan favorite, Elvira the Goat. Also, we can’t say more about this right now but: WARNING: DO NOT listen to this episode if you have a room with corners. BSCC 067 - Stacey's Big Crush

E

Oh wow! This week, Tanner had to wait over an hour while Jack finished reading the book and setting up his audio, and in that time, he got a little bit silly with some rosé and seltzer. In Stoneybrook, Stacey develops a crush on some dude who may or may not be a half-python-half-man, but also THERE’S A GOAT IN THIS BOOK NAMED ELVIRA AND SHE’S JUST A BABY AND SHE’S VERY GOOD! BSCC 066 - Dawn's Family Feud

E

Happy Trails, Baby Nation! Jack and Tanner are taking a tour of Boston’s “The Freedom Trail” this week, thanks to the entity known as Jahna N. Malcolm, who co-wrote this novel with Ann. M. Martin and (presumably) The Boston Tourism Board. Unfortunately, Dawn and Mary Anne are at each other’s throats again this week, so the boys distract themselves from that unpleasantness by spending a laudable amount of time Googling to see if the Bible ever mentions weed. BSCC: Mystery - Beware, Dawn

E

It’s time for another BSC: Mystery, which means it’s time for another interview, except it’s not an interview, because interviewers don’t make their guests read children’s books. Reading “Beware Dawn” with the boys this week are Katie Heaney and Arianna Rebolini, authors of the incredible new book, “Public Relations,” and apparently a very steaming piece of erotic fiction featuring an eel man. Topics of discussion include G.I. Joe used in sex play, celestial beings, bonza sheilas, King Hiss, and much, much more. (Including a little bit of Baby-Sitters Club discussion.) BSCC 065 - Claudia's Friend

E

Strap on your best learnin’ hat and get ready for a good, old-fashioned education! This week, Claudia is learning from Stacey about where apostrophes go; Tanner’s learning from Jack about something very dry and almost certainly made up out of whole cloth called “The Lexical Order,” and Jack’s learning from Tanner all about the hit 2001 supernatural horror film “13 Ghosts,” starring the great Matthew Lillard. We also learn what happened to Jackie Rodowsky in his latest dance through the infinite, and the boys learn together just what happens when they muster up all their courage and say something to their beloved wives that they should have said a long, long, long time ago. “Battleships,” by Thomas Wolff Music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1OTLh2RGiA “Run,” by Ross Budgen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujsCRw-eA0o “Rise,” by Ampix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUXjQIUv9KE “You Gotta Have Theremin and Ukulele,” by Squidlord https://soundcloud.com/squidlord/you-gotta-have-theremin-and-ukulele “Morning Sun,” by Nicolai Heidlas Music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDQYljt3mtc “Land of Honor,” by Maxx McGee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFhmfHMcnAs “Apocalypse,” by Ross Budgen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v29KVjUXiS8 Thanks as always to original Baby Boy Scott Lamb for the intro music, and to Superbrat for the outro music. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jack-shepherd8/support Learn more about your ad choices. BSCC 063 - Jessi and the Awful Secret

E

A "very special” episode this week, Baby Nation, since Ann – in her infinite wisdom and unaccountable cruelty – decided to throw Jack and Tanner another curveball with a powerful novel about the triple threat of poverty, systemic racism, and teenage eating disorders. But with an exquisite grace worthy of Jessi herself, the boys manage to tiptoe shockingly quickly in the opposite direction of these delicate issues and towards the vastly safer ground of Marvel’s The X-Men, which Ann also foolishly included in this text. And it goes without saying that this whole discussion is positively teeming with horrifying doll creatures, so there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy. BSCC 062 - Mary Anne's Makeover

E

Mary Anne is finally getting that makeover we’ve been hearing about for so long! We also have reason to believe that Mr. Spier and Logan have a lot more in common than we thought, and that Mr. Spier and the X-Men’s Wolverine have a lot more in common than we thought. He’s the best there is at what he does, and what he does is weird sex play with food. Also, Jack is moving to Texas so nothing else really matters. BSCC: Mystery – Stacey and the Missing Ring

E

It's the first ever Baby-Sitters Club Mystery! And things get very mysterious, very quickly. Stacey McGill has stolen a powerful ring that turns the babysitters against each other. Meanwhile, the boys are attacked by a terrible spectral presence in the room, Tanner spills an entire beer onto his crotch, and it seems almost certain that a fissure has been opened up between our world and the strange parallel universe in which the Baby-Sitters Club Mysteries take place. Jack and Tanner also chat with Kelsey and Holland from Whatever It Takes: A Degrassi Podcast to get their insights on the thousand mystifying mysteries contained within Stacey and the Missing Ring. BSCC 061 - Mallory Hates Boys (and Gym)

E

It's "pandemonium" in Stoneybrook this week! Which means, troublingly, that ALL the demons are back. And, perhaps worse, all the boys are being strange and difficult, which is stressing Mallory out to no end. A guest appearance from some of the business boys over at Goliath Industries does very little to ease the tension, and neither does the extended discussion of alleged boy Logan Bruno's complicated relationship with American sports. Not a good showing for ANY of the boys this week, so it looks like Mallory may well be onto something here. E

Your two heavily jet-lagged boys are back in the USA and they're ready to talk about our precious Dawn, Claudia's latest outfit, and saving the planet! Somehow that goes off the rails pretty fast and what we've ended up with here is a surprisingly deep dive into the life and work of the music producer Steve Albini? Sorry about that! Stick around for an appearance by Stoneybrook News's Pulitzer-prize winning correspondent Chuck Whittaker, some profound analysis of the complicated "earring-hierarchy" in the BSC, and, yes, just a little taste of Bread Theory. E

There’s some new babies in Stoneybrook this week, and they only thing they love more than Kid Kits is racial purity! That’s right, they’re racist! Like, so awful and racist that it’s almost absurd. Not exactly easy to riff on, but they may be Doll People as well, so at least Ann gave us something to work with. Also, Jackie Rodowsky is starting a band! Ever wanted to be a fly on the wall when a couple of flesh-jobs hooked on Synchro and lurking around the meatspace in the dark alleyways of Roppongi, Tokyo, burble their nonsense-talk to one another? Well, you're in luck today, and wouldn't you know it, they're talking about Baby-Sitters Club #55, "Jessi's Gold Medal"! Mostly. They also have a worrying amount to say about Boat Girls, "The Watcher," and a strange little timewalker called Jackie Rodowsky. But that's just the Synchro talking. BSCC 056 - Mallory and the Dream Horse

E

This week, Mallory, Jack, and Tanner all dream of horses, and make the mistake of dreaming too small... "There’s something that we K-PAXians have been around long enough to have discovered. The universe will expand, then it will collapse back on itself, then will expand again. It will repeat this process forever. What you don't you know is that when the universe expands again, everything will be as it is now. Whatever mistakes you make this time around, you will live through on your next pass. Every mistake you make, you will live through again, & again, forever. So my advice to you is to get it right this time around. The boys sit down for a fascinating and thought-provoking discussion about what the perfect government might be, but things get derailed essentially right out of the gate because Tanner has a cold and also, the attention-span of a fly. So, if you came looking to sink your teeth into some political philosophy, prepare to be disappointed, because this ended up being mostly about where Alan Gray fits on a D&D alignment chart, what Karen Brewer's latest business idea is all about, and why all the boy craziest baby-sitters seem to end up alone. Also, there's a new hidden force in Stoneybrook, and it's the scariest yet. After the long, dark night of the soul, we finally have a New Dawn, Baby Nation. And despite the fact that she looks a little like a late era Axl Rose, she’s captured the attention of a new Bruno named Lewis. Can Dawn escape the thrall of Lewis Bruno? Let go of your hearts this week, Baby Nation, and for good measure let go of your heads as well, because this episode is a giant trust fall through space and time into a strange and glorious future. If that worries you, here are some discussion questions to keep you grounded: Is Claudia's art derivative or is she making a deliberate point about the anxiety of influence? There's no easy way of saying this, Baby Nation, but Mallory is over it. We’re considering changing the name of the show to “The Pete Black Club” because we discovered our favorite character in the entire series this week. Here’s all the rad stuff Pete Black did this week: Burned Cokie Mason, worked on his part of the school project, and found a way for Tanner to mention Bread Theory. There’s some other less important characters in this book like Mary Anne and Logan and a toilet monster, but we can’t really remember what they got up to because we were so laser focused on Pete Black’s antics.
