My heart was beating madly as I raced through the park. I had to get away from him, but I could hear his footsteps, he was right behind me. Then I noticed the public bathroom, I ran inside and stood there, gasping for breath. As my breathing began to come back to normal I looked at my reflection in the bathroom mirror.I watched in terror as my beautiful face turned into something out of a horror movie.And if you think that is shocking, you will never believe what happens at the end of this video.I hadn’t had a very easy childhood, you see, to say that I was ugly was a huge understatement. Life was pretty tough for me growing up, you see I didn’t live a normal life like you probably did. I lived alone on a deserted island. I’m not really sure how I came to be there, it wasn’t something I really thought about.I didn’t have time to sit and wonder about my life, because I had to spend every waking minute looking for my next meal. I couldn’t go to a supermarket or get a takeaway, I had to hunt and fish and eat whatever I could find.The first thing I did when I woke up every morning was go down to the ocean and try to spear a fish. It wasn’t easy, the fish were really fast, but I persevered and sometimes I got lucky. I lived off wild berries and plants that grew on the island. Sometimes I would come across a bird egg in a nest and I would cook it over a fire made from twigs. I had made a shelter to sleep in, but it wasn’t very comfortable and when it rained the water would come running through the ceiling and soak me in my bed. Sometimes, when I was lying there, I would imagine that one day someone would come and rescue me. But of course that never happened. “Good morning class,” a lanky man with glasses walked into the classroom. “My name is Mr. Jameson.” He wrote his name on the board. “I’ll be your History teacher until Mrs. Rose comes back from maternity leave.” I smiled as I envisioned the next three months to be a breeze. There wasn’t a teacher at school that did not like me. Mr. Jameson however wasn’t any ordinary teacher. Little did I know at that point in time he would change my life for the worse. One time while I was absent from school the entire class got in trouble because there was a fight in class. When I arrived the next day Mr. Jameson said that even though I wasn’t there I still needed to do detention, you know the “Peter pay for Paul” type scenario. I told Mr. Jameson that it was unfair that I’d have to do detention since I wasn’t at school. Do you know what he did? He gave me a week’s detention! I wandered the streets alone, as I did every day. My life was pretty miserable, I was homeless and didn’t have a penny to my name. The only clothes I owned were the ones I was wearing. I really couldn’t imagine how things could get any worse.Then a car came around the corner and drove straight through a huge puddle on the side of the road, water sprayed up and soaked me from head to toe. I didn’t really understand that we were poor and what it really meant when people lived in a trailer park. The thing they loved most about me though was my hair. It was soft, golden and looked exactly like the perfect hair in the shampoo commercials even though we had no money for hair products most of the time. They say it’s the middle child, the one with an older and a younger sibling, that has it the hardest. I’m not so sure about that. In my experience, it’s much worse to be the younger sibling of someone who’s gifted at every single thing they try. I really do speak from experience.My sister Angela was cringely referred to as the town’s angel. Meanwhile, people asked “Who?” whenever my name came up. I never hated my sister, I love her very much. It’s impossible not to when she’s so sweet and social and when she always knows exactly what to say to cheer me up. In high school, Angela was top of her class. She was also head cheerleader, of course, and president of the math club. In her free time she volunteered all around town. She was the reason our local animal shelter wasn’t forced to shut down. All she had to do was organize a small event there and people were throwing money at the place like crazy.
