I never expected that I'd have the school bully wrapped around my finger. When I was 5 years old my parents died in a car crash and I was sent to live with my grandmother.  That's where I met Kegan, my best friend, and our neighbour. In our town everyone knew we were pretty tight-knit. I loved our quiet little part of paradise.In 4th grade everything changed when the Pillage family came to town. They bought a few of the stores and turned them into large shopping malls. Not only was our town no longer quiet and peaceful but the Pillages' son, Victor, was in my class and he became the school bully, even to the teachers. During 5th grade Victor stuck a sign on my back which said "pinch me". Hi my name is Erica and I'm from Jamaica. I always thought my adoptive parents were the best people on earth but I was totally shattered when I found out what they were hiding from me.Growing up I felt nothing but love from Mom and Dad, especially since I had a rare skin condition called xeroderma pigmentosum. I was told not to say this, but for the longest time I always wished I was someone else or at least had another body. I jumped in first then grabbed my sister and ran. The stench of the drain was nauseating but we couldn't stop. We ran until everything was quiet in the dark. I sat and held Binita on top of me. When Mom had died, I had promised her I'd take care of Binita.
