Ep 205How To Hunt Turkey - Why You Should Hunt With Your Friends

Today on the how to hunt turkey podcast I recap my morning hunt and talk about why it is a good idea to hunt with your friends. I make the argument that it is worth the loss of sleep, the efforts to make new friends and the sacrifice of not always being the man on the trigger. Some notable pros of hunting with your friends are that it makes you a better Hunter. It helps you learn how to hide better. It helps you understand what you need to work on. I also talk about how it's easier to take the low points of turkey hunting and it makes the high points much better. Not to mention it's easier to see with two sets of eyes and to hear with two sets of ears and we all know the old quote. Two heads are better than one! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 203Pennsylvania Woodsman - Hunt Slowly During Spring Gobbler Season

On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, Mitch is riding solo sharing some turkey hunting experiences. Most turkey hunters would agree that chasing gobbling turkeys and calling aggressive to a red hot gobbler is hard to beat. However, the amount of times throughout a season that happens can be on the low end. In reality, turkeys are creatures of habit that are seeking refuge from predators, feeding, and breeding is mixed in throughout the spring. Patience is a virtue in the spring woods at times!Mitch shares two different hunting experiences from the past and draws his learning points from them. While there are no concrete rules in hunting strategy and the words "always" or "never" don't come into play, Mitch's "style" of turkey hunting was molded by his own learning experiences. He shares his style in slowing down, listening, planning moves accordingly, calling softly, and being patient to hunt a gobbler later in the morning or even on another day of season. Lastly, he chats about a few other overlooked benefits of hunting slowly, ones you don't want to miss! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 198How To Hunt Turkey - Knowing When to Move and When To Stay

In this episode of the "How To Hunt Turkey" podcast I dive deep into the thoughts and ideas behind knowing when to move. I discuss time spent turkey scouting so far this year and how excited I am for turkey season. I also dive into 6 factors to consider before moving spots. 1. Knowing your birds. Understanding your local turkey flock and the habits they have will help you understand when it's time to move.2. Knowing your hunting spot. Knowing what your spot has to offer the turkeys and what it doesn't have to offer will help inform your decision. 3. Knowing how to move. If you decide to move spots it's helpful to know the right way to get from point a to point b without spooking turkeys. 4. Know what spots are good in the morning and what spots are good in the afternoon. When you know what time a spot is best it will help you decide when to be there.5. Know yourself. Knowing your own tendencies and hunting style will help you determine the best way to hunt for your enjoyment and for your best chance at a gobbler.6. Know the sign. Understanding and interpreting turkey sign will help you know how long to give a spot or wether to set up at all. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
