S4 Ep 184Goodnight Mommy (2014): "Crocs on the Bog"
EIt's so unfair that we only celebrate mommies one day out of the whole year, so we here at Spooky Tuesday are taking the initiative to up the ante. This month, we're proud to present Mommy Issues May, a four-week slate of episodes dedicated both to mommies with issues and those who have issues with their mommies (because we're inclusive like that). And you know we had to start off strong, which is why we're covering Goodnight Mommy (2014) for our first episode. This Austrian horror flick is from the same team that went on to make The Lodge (2019), so you know it's going to be fucked, and it also features the ~spookiest~ thing of all: identical twins. S4 Ep 183Ocean's 8 (2018): "The Female Kleptomaniac Urge"
EDo you know what time of year it is, Spookies? It's the fifth Tuesday of April — and the last Tuesday before May. If you know what that means, then you and Chelsea must seriously be on the same wavelength, because this week's episode of Spooky Tuesday has been years in the making. In honor of the bonus episode slot that happens to fall before the first Monday of May — aka the annual Met Gala — it's time we do Ocean's 8 (2018). Next week, all of our favorite celebs will hit the red carpet for a fabulous costume (institute) party, and this week, we're gonna watch about half of them star in a heist flick using that same setting. And not just any heist flick. This Sandra Bullock-Cate Blanchett-Rihanna-Anne Hathaway-Sarah Paulson-Mindy Kaling-Awkwafina-Helena Bonham Carter-led film was one of the big girl boss reboots to hit the silver screen, and we're ready to debate whether it stuck the landing. Sorry, though. James Corden is in this movie, too. :( Resources:https://screenrant.com/oceans-9-movie-sequel-updates-sandra-bullock/https://screenrant.com/oceans-14-george-clooney-return-danny-not-dead-lie/https://screenrant.com/oceans-8-movie-ending-explained/https://www.polygon.com/2018/6/9/17438074/oceans-8-oceans-11-ending-connectionshttps://newrepublic.com/article/148980/oceans-8-diamonds-girls-best-friendhttps://bi.org/en/articles/the-unicorn-scale-oceans-8https://medium.com/@kasey.rae/oceans-8-film-review-b3bed6b05b2f

S4 Ep 182The Wicker Man (1973): "Not The One With Nicolas Cage"
EThe 1970s version might not have Nic Cage, but The Wicker Man (1973) has everything else. Nudity? Check. Singing? Check. Ancient Pagan rituals, haunted candle hands, and all the canned food you could dream of? Check, check, check! What more could you want, really? Well, if you're main character Sergeant Neil Howie, probably to lead a good Christian investigation into the mystery of a missing girl — but on Scotland's fictional Summerisle, that task proves harder than it seems. This week on Spooky Tuesday, we're joining the hunt as we discuss costumes, colonialism and CLEAR references. S4 Ep 181Late Night with the Devil (2024): "Third Owl Nipple"
ELate Night with the Devil (2024) is making waves as the newest found-footage, real-time feature in horror, but does it live up to the hype? And what’s up with that AI art controversy? We sat down in front of our TV sets to see what the deal was for ourselves, but we think we might’ve gotten a little sleepy halfway through — or did anyone else hallucinate that a big giant worm was part of this movie? On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re reviewing the tapes as we talk about all things aspect ratio, feminine rage, and forest orgies.References:https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/bohemian-grove-where-the-rich-and-powerful-go-to-misbehave/2011/06/15/AGPV1sVH_blog.htmlhttps://screenrant.com/late-night-with-the-devil-ending-explained/https://www.indiewire.com/news/general-news/late-night-with-the-devil-ai-backlash-explained-1234966938/https://nerdist.com/article/late-night-with-the-devil-david-dastmalchian-interview/https://whorulesamerica.ucsc.edu/power/bohemian_grove_spy.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Grove

S4 Ep 180Honeymoon (2014): "Quack, Quack, Honk"
ERemember that pigeon pin we put in our Possession episode? Well, we’re ready to circle back to that, because we’re noticing some similar themes between that movie and what we’re covering this week. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re venturing back into the woods with Honeymoon (2014), Leigh Janiak’s directorial debut starring Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway. Playing a just-married couple celebrating their — well, you can probably guess — these two have crazy chemistry and help bring an even crazier story to life. This film will either tug at your heart strings or ignite your feminist ideals, but there’s at least one thing we can all agree on: Quack quack quack, quack honk. Our new official look is here — and so is our merch store! That’s right: We’ve got new art AND hats, shirts, and sweatshirts to match. Starting March 26 at 12:00 a.m. PST, our shop is open for presales. S4 Ep 179Jurassic Park (1993): "Yes, It’s A Horror Movie" ft. Why the Flick?
EIt's no trick (and not just because April Fools' Day was yesterday): We really are doing Jurassic Park (1993) on our latest episode. Though many have questioned whether or not the Steven Spielberg classic technically counts as horror, we're ready to put the matter to bed, tuck it in tight, and wish it sweet dinosaur dreams... or at least terrifying T-Rex nightmares. Because let's be real — this flick freaked us all out as kids, and given the fact that it's a movie about the OG monsters, it definitely meets Spooky Tuesday's standards. No one can take on three raptors alone, though, which is why we invited Why the Flick?'s Claire White to be our guide on this dangerous expedition. Follow Why the Flick? on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok at @whytheflick. Check out their new episodes every other week on Apple and Spotify. BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We’re getting a makeover!! Our new official look is here — and so is our merch store! That’s right: We’ve got new art AND hats, shirts, and sweatshirts to match. S4 Ep 178Possession (1981): "It's Gooing A Lot of Goo"
EFirst things first: Everyone say, "Happy Birthday, Monica!" For our special girl's special day, we decided to do a very special film. This week on Spooky Tuesday, we're covering Possession (1981), the video nasty that made waves at Cannes... and then promptly got stuck in the vault. Starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill as a couple whose marriage is falling apart, this peculiar picture has been much debated over the years and is open to all kinds of interpretation. On our latest episode, we're doing our best to make sense of what exactly is happening here — and just how it makes us feel. BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We’re getting a makeover!! S4 Ep 177The House of the Devil (2009): "Baby Black Phillip"
EDid anyone else just get the strangest craving for pizza? We could use a little snack here at Spooky Tuesday, especially since we've got nothing to do for the rest of the night besides play the harpsichord, try on other people's glasses, and snoop through this big old house while babysitting some old lady. Oh, yeah — and we're watching The House of the Devil (2009). In Ti West's Satanic Panic-inspired '80s slow burn, college student Samantha agrees to take on an unusual gig for some much-needed rent money, and though bestie Greta Gerwig reminds her to be wary of weirdos, things still go more than a little sideways. S4 Ep 176Creep (2014): "Suspicious Internet Speed"
EWhom among us hasn't considered answering a Craigslist ad for a little extra cash? Sure, there's always a risk that things might get weird, but what could really go wrong? Just kidding. We've seen the Lifetime movie about the Craigslist killer — and now we've also seen Creep (2014). The ultimate in low-budget horror, this found footage story shows just what two besties can come up with when all they have is a scary wolf mask and a dream. On a new episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're asking ourselves the hard questions about job prospects and unpacking improv king Mark Duplass's truly unsettling performance.BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We’re getting a makeover!! S4 Ep 175Death Becomes Her (1992): "A Slay In Every Regard"
EWe know it’s only Tuesday, but could you tell us we’re your favorite podcast in the world? We think we need you to say it every morning from now on, especially this week while we cover Death Becomes Her (1992). This goofy black comedy features Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn as passionate frenemies — and Oscar-winning special effects when that passion spills over into violence. A cult classic close to our own hearts here at Spooky Tuesday, this flick illustrates the true meaning of best friends forever, because what’s immortality worth without your bestie by your side?BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We’re getting a makeover!! S4 Ep 174Lisa Frankenstein (2024): "All That And A Can Of Beans"
EObsession Month may be almost over, but if Lisa Frankenstein (2024) has taught us anything, it's that not even death is permanent. For our last episode all about love that crosses the line, we knew we had to cover Diablo Cody's new horror romance. Starring scream queen Kathryn Newton and a nearly mute Cole Sprouse (possibly the ideal Cole Sprouse), this fantastical flick combines the bright color palette of the '80s with the weird world of Jennifer's Body — and then brings it all to life with a broken tanning bed. We don't know if it's too soon to declare this movie a cult classic, but one thing we can say with confidence is that it's definitely going to join our Spooky Tuesday sleepover lineup. S4 Ep 173Pearl (2022): "That X Factor"
EDo you have what it takes to be a staurrrr? We're ready to be discovered here at Spooky Tuesday — and so is a certain little farm girl who knows how to dream big and smile even bigger. No one loves her more than herself, though, and that's what makes Pearl (2022) the perfect pick for Obsession Month. On our newest episode, we're talking about the X (2022) prequel, a project that was born when a character study spiraled out of control. With its bright colors, iconic quotes, and protagonist who knows that sometimes you need to crack a few alligator eggs to make an omelette, this flick became an instant classic in its own right, and now it's her turn to step into the limelight. BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We’re getting a makeover!! Our new official look is here — and so is our merch store! That’s right: We’ve got new art AND hats, shirts, and sweatshirts to match. S4 Ep 172Obsessed (2009): "Underutilized Sex Mirror"
EWould it even be legal to do Obsession Month without putting Obsessed (2009) on the lineup? We knew we had to include this movie as soon as we came up with February's theme, and it doesn't disappoint. Or, uh, it actually might if what you're looking for is a horror flick that inspires genuine fear, but if all you need is Queen Bey, a little camp, and a catfight for the ages, then you're in for a good time. Starring Beyoncé, Idris Elba, and Ali Larter, this cautionary tale is all about what happens when an intra-office flirtation goes wrong, and we're breaking it all down on a new Spooky Tuesday. S4 Ep 171Misery (1990): "AJ's Make-A-Wish"
EFebruary is all about the romance — and when you combine that with horror, too often you end up with something that looks a little more toxic. That’s why we’re dedicating these next few weeks to all things Obsession, and we know just how to kick this theme month off. This week on Spooky Tuesday, we’re covering Misery (1990), the Kathy Bates classic that introduced us to such famous phrases as “cock-a-doodie” and “bitchly cow corn.” And to help us discuss the movie all about what happens when fans go too far, we invited on AJ, our #1 listener. What? It’s not like a little audience interaction ever hurt anyone before…BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We’re getting a makeover!! Our new official look is here — and so is our merch store! S4 Ep 170Saltburn (2023): "So Gossip Girl Coded"
EIs this week a Fifth Tuesday? Is Saltburn (2023) a horror movie? Spookies, those questions are more for you than for us — but we do have a lot to say this week. Like, A LOT. Somehow, without really meaning to, we accidentally talked for almost three whole hours about Emerald Fennell’s newest film (and actually, if you count the bits that we cut out, we really talked for even longer). But, hey, if you’ve heard anything at all about the 2006-era flick starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi, then you know that conversation is just one of the many things it provokes. On our latest Spooky Tuesday, we’re discussing our first impressions, the Gossip Girl of it all, and that killer soundtrack, plus so (so so) much more.BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We’re getting a makeover!! S4 Ep 169Five Nights At Freddy's (2023): "Stream 'Night Shift' By Lucy Dacus"
EIt's that time of year again — Matthew Lillard's birthday!!! We knew we had to celebrate our spooky king in style, and we had just the movie to help us do it. A long-awaited adaptation of a much-beloved video game franchise, Five Nights at Freddy's (2023) made quite the stir when it hit theaters last fall. We don't know about you, but our social media feeds were flooded with fan cams of Matty Lilly, Josh Hutcherson, and the whole Freddy Fazbear crew. It felt like we were singing fan songs and ~whistling~ along for weeks after we first saw it, but there's more to discuss than just the fandom response. ~Join us for a bite~ as we throw our favorite guy a birthday party at the coolest abandoned spot in town. S4 Ep 168Night Swim (2024): "Muddying The Waters"
EForget the beach that makes you old — it's all about the pool that haunts you. Orrr maybe not? Night Swim (2024) is the recent release that made more of a ripple than a splash. Starring Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon, this flick has been a little divisive among audiences. Is it the kid horror movie we need? Or did it get caught into the PG-13 trap? On a new episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're jumping right into the deep end as we talk about the underlying lore, how the Orioles are the best baseball team ever, and if there's anything worthwhile below the surface of this paranormal pool. S4 Ep 167Frozen (2010): "Stuck Porn"
EIt's more than a little unfortunate that when you ask someone if they've seen Frozen (2010), you have to first clarify that you don't mean the Disney princess movie. Once they ~let it go~, though, they just might discover that this flick is worth a watch in its own right. On a new episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're hitting the slopes to find out what happens when three college kids get trapped on a ski lift with no phones, no food, and certainly no magic ice powers. A cautionary tale about the perils of night skiing — and a potential entrant into the extended 47 Meters Down Cinematic Universe — this film offers a new option for one of the worst places to find yourself stranded.BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We’re getting a makeover!! S4 Ep 166Santa's Slay (2005): "ChestNUTS and Jingle BALLS"
EIf what you wanted for Christmas was a whole bunch of jokes about male genitalia, well, you must've been a very good little Spooky this year! For our latest installment of B-cember — and our last episode of Spooky Tuesday until 2024 — we decided to spice up the season with Santa's Slay (2005), a holiday horror featuring wrestling star Goldberg as Jolly Old Saint Nick. Take a look under the tree and you'll find a flick full of all three grindhouse Gs, enough innuendo to kill a flying bison, and more than a few familiar faces. There's no better way to celebrate, so join us as we close out the year with a Father Christmas who could clothesline Mannheim and his signature Steamroller move with ease. S4 Ep 165Grindhouse (2007): "Grime, Gore, and Genitalia"
EReady for more B-cember, Spookies? Well, you'd better be, because for our second week of B movie December, we're going bigger and better than ever. On our latest episode, we're diving into Grindhouse (2007), an ode to the double features of horror history. Featuring a ton of your favorite celebrities and with a whole bunch of spoof trailers sprinkled throughout, Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof make for quite the movie night. There's zombies, fast cars, and shared cinematic universes galore — all dressed up real nice and with sexy ladies practically hanging off of every frame. We're explaining exploitation film and getting into the real (~reel~) dirty details on a new in-person episode of Spooky Tuesday.References:https://www.indiewire.com/features/general/quentin-tarantino-grindhouse-misunderstood-1202225579/https://www.wired.com/2007/04/grindhouse-look/https://screenrant.com/behind-scenes-facts-about-making-of-planet-terror/#death-proof-connectionshttps://collider.com/grindhouse-15-years-later-death-proof-planet-terror/https://www.indiewire.com/news/general-news/in-praise-of-death-proof-one-of-quentin-tarantinos-best-movies-128643/https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/fergie-quentin-tarantino-bit-her-resurfaced-interview-8098833/https://www.indiewire.com/features/general/rose-mcgowan-robert-rodriguez-planet-terror-harvey-weinstein-rape-1201912923/https://beverlyboy.com/filmmaking/everything-you-need-to-know-about-grindhouse-film-history/https://www.grindhousedatabase.com/index.php/INTRODUCTIONhttps://www.slashfilm.com/762166/the-20-best-grindhouse-movies-ranked/https://www.cbr.com/spy-kids-machete-do-they-share-universe/ https://www.vulture.com/2007/09/quentin_tarantinos_missing_ree.html Trailers and Clips: Hobo With a Shotgun (Fake Trailer) Hobo With a Shotgun (Real Trailer, 2011)Death Proof Lap Dance Missing Reel Death Proof Convenience Store Cut Scene

S4 Ep 164Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954): "Ribbed For Your Pleasure"
EIt's a B-cember to Remember here at Spooky Tuesday! To finish the year in festive fashion, we decided to do one last lil theme month and dedicate December to B horror movies, so of course we had to start with a classic. Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) may have marked the end of the monster movie era, but it laid the ground work for a whole bunch of famous scary movies that followed. Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water is an obvious one — but Steven Spielberg was taking notes for Jaws, too. On our latest episode, we're talking film history, four foot dicks, and lighting things on fire.References:https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/a-brief-history-of-the-creature-from-the-black-lagoon-franchise/https://www.rogerebert.com/mzs/from-the-deep-on-the-staying-power-of-creature-from-the-black-lagoonhttps://www.monstersofmakeup.com/2021/02/10/making-up-the-creature-from-the-black-lagoon/https://www.geekslop.com/life/fads-and-trends/fads-and-trends-1900/2010/the-3-d-movie-craze-of-the-1950shttps://www.britannica.com/topic/Creature-from-the-Black-Lagoonhttps://colinmcmahonauthor.com/2020/04/16/why-creature-from-the-black-lagoon-has-become-more-horrifying-with-time/https://filmschoolrejects.com/creature-from-the-black-lagoon-real-designer/

S4 Ep 16328 Days Later (2002): "Novembleak"
EYou know we ~love~ a theme month here at Spooky Tuesday, but TBH we sort of stumbled on Novembleak on accident. Horror movies aren’t exactly cheery as a genre, but our lineup this month has been particularly… well, bleak, and 28 Days Later (2002) is no different. With some scenes that look a little *too* familiar now that we’ve experienced a pandemic of our own, this not-actually-a-zombie flick features Cillian Murphy (and his dick) at what may or may not be the end of the world. Thankfully, he’s not actually alone — but not all company is good company. On our newest episode, we’re talking about pop culture connections, product placements, and all the alternate endings.References:https://collider.com/28-days-later-zombie-movie/https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/28-days-later-oral-history-danny-boyle-alex-garlandhttps://screenrant.com/28-days-later-danny-boyle-zombie-movie-interesting-facts/#poor-quality-on-purposehttps://www.looper.com/1327528/untold-truth-28-days-later/https://www.ranker.com/list/28-days-later-behind-the-scenes-trivia-details/linda-meyershttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ6zr6kCPj8&ab_channel=LMFAOVEVO https://screenrant.com/walking-dead-28-days-later-same-opening-rick-jim-explained/ Alternate Endings: https://youtu.be/CyoKyVM_nW0?si=rCEGTrhvoeRDZibF

S4 Ep 162Malignant (2021): "It's All About Family"
EMalignant (2021) didn’t make the best first impression for us here at Spooky Tuesday — so we were a lil nervous to revisit it on our latest episode. But with Thanksgiving right around the corner, we could think of no better time to cover such a family-focused flick, and boy are we glad we did. Now that we’ve done our horror homework by exploring more of director James Wan’s oeuvre and cinematic influences, we may have finally built the right foundation to appreciate this bonkers batshit off-the-wall movie for the messy, camp realness it is.References:https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2021-09-10/malignant-twist-ending-explained-realhttps://www.thecrimson.com/article/2021/9/28/malignant-review-article/https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2021-09-10/malignant-review-james-wan-hbo-maxhttps://mashable.com/article/malignant-reviewhttps://www.ign.com/articles/malignant-trailer-movie-plot-james-wanhttps://mashable.com/article/malignant-hidden-detailshttps://collider.com/james-wan-malignant-interview/https://www.thewrap.com/malignant-movie-explained-james-wan/https://www.intomore.com/entertainment/film/malignant-trans-allegory/https://morbidlybeautiful.com/digging-deep-malignant-intersex/#:~:text=As%20the%20characters%20share%20one,makes%20them%20both%20intersex%20chimaeras.

S4 Ep 161The Mist (2007): "The Bull-Spit We Spew"
EYou know that thing we always say about getting caught up in the apocalypse? Well, The Mist (2007) is exactly the movie to make us rethink that take — but the censored version available on streaming is definitely testing our resolve. We knew we were in for Lovecraftian horrors, but we didn't realize made-for-TV profanities would be one of them. That said, some of them are definitely growing on us, and we're using all kinds of creative cursing on a new Spooky Tuesday as we debate the merits of solving mysteries (mist-eries?), discuss the changes that were made from the original Stephen King novella, and point out all of the future Walking Dead actors director Frank Darabont discovered during this film. S4 Ep 160Hell House LLC (2015): "Fuck That Clown"
EIt’s just generally good life advice to not commit a crime while you’re in the middle of committing a crime — and the same basic principle applies to haunted houses. If you’re putting one on, maybe consider hosting it in a place that doesn’t come with preexisting supernatural lore. Unfortunately, that was a lesson that had to be learned the hard way in Hell House LLC (2015). A found footage-style movie, this mock doc investigates a mysterious Halloween incident that claimed 15 lives. It features creepy clowns, jump scares, and one very important CLEAR reference to Twilight, so of course we’re checking it all out (or in ~ lil hotel joke for ya) on a new Spooky Tuesday.Resources: https://www.reddit.com/r/horror/comments/83cpfq/anyone_figure_out_the_hell_house_llc_secret/ https://www.nashvillescene.com/arts_culture/coverstory/tennessees-mckamey-manor-torture-on-demand/article_760ac6f2-513f-5f7c-b1f2-d65d7452bb1a.html Hell House LLC: The Director's Cut: https://youtu.be/byIZMtb44v8?si=ntZO51JB-LvYiTo3

S4 Ep 159Practical Magic (1998): "Bangs, Bangs, Bangs"
EAnyone up for a Midnight Margarita? We're breaking out our cauldron and brewing up some delicious cocktails in honor of a new Spooky Tuesday. When we realized we had a Halloween Fifth Tuesday on our hands, we knew we had to pick something special — and Practical Magic (1998) is a movie so perfect that it's almost like we made a wish for it way back in our younger days. Starring Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, and Dianne Wiest, this witchy flick is all about sisterhood, staying true to yourself, and finding true love in all its different forms. Oh, and about how it's important to have bangs at some point in your life — but mostly the other stuff. S4 Ep 158Suspiria (1977): "Technicolor Nightmare" ft. Vannah Taylor
EShould we have saved Suspiria (1977) for pride month? Rumor on the street is that this is a low-key lesbian film... which actually makes a lot of sense when you consider that, in a way, maybe all witch movies are. But while it doesn't actually include any footage of women kissing, Dario Argento's masterpiece is still a visual delight. Just peep all the incredible architecture and fashion! That's not to say that this flick is all (technicolor) flash, no substance. There's a lot to unpack here, which is why we asked Vannah Taylor — writer, ballerina, and fellow horror podcaster — to join us as we break down everything from the classic fairytale references to the pop culture impact. Follow Vannah Taylor on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok at @sirendeathcult. Follow The Carnal Extremities Podcast on Twitter. S4 Ep 157Fright Night (1985): "That '80s Rizz"
EIt’s giving Disturbia. It’s giving Scream. It’s giving Bram Stoker’s Dracula and The Lost Boys and Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire. And it’s most definitely giving Vincent Price. Make no mistake, though — Fright Night (1985) is absolutely iconic in its own right. A creature feature where each and every vampire gets their own special set of teeth, this classic ‘80s flick is home to some great hallmarks of the era. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we’re breaking down Chris Sarandon’s famous monster movie as we talk about CLEAR references, hot couples, and incredible practical effects. S4 Ep 156Hereditary (2018): "Some Fuck Shit"
ESpookies, we probably don’t need to tell you that some fuck shit goes down in Hereditary (2018). If there’s one thing most people know about this movie, it’s that — but if you don’t know, well, you might want a heads-up before you watch. On our latest episode, we're talking about the instantly iconic A24 horror, a.k.a. the project that kickstarted Ari Aster's career. With miniatures that will make your jaw drop, visuals so upsetting you won't be able to look away, and Toni Collette screaming about that face on your face, this flick has everything, and we do mean everything. It's the kind of movie that might take more than one watch to fully appreciate, but we're doing our best to cover it all on a new Spooky Tuesday. S4 Ep 155The Silence of the Lambs (1991): "Gorgeous Gorgeous Gore"
EGood evening, Spookies. We hope you're hungry, because we've cooked up a very special episode for our Season 4 premiere, and it goes great with some fava beans and a nice Chianti. This week on Spooky Tuesday, The Silence of the Lambs (1991) is what's on the menu. One of the most iconic horror classics of all time, this flick swept the 1992 Oscars and helped lay the groundwork for all the highbrow horror that came after. It also features some of the most famous quotes in cinematic history. But that's not the only thing that makes this episode so special. For the first time in our three-year history, we were able to record all together in person, and naturally we had to film the whole thing for posterity. Not only can you listen to this episode, if you head over to our YouTube channel, you can watch it, too. Now that *really* makes for a good evening. Bon appétit!Want to see it for yourself? S3 Ep 154Talk To Me (2023): "Wait, Is This Movie Australian?!"
ECRAZY! Pervert Ghost Hand Possesses Teens! (Prank!) (Gone Wrong!) (Gone Real?!) It’s the viral new video everyone is ~talking~ about — and after debuting in theaters this summer, Talk To Me (2023) is now officially available to watch at home. With A24’s latest release doing numbers and maybe even kicking off a new franchise, we knew we had to get in on the game here at Spooky Tuesday. For our Season 3 finale, we’re traveling to the land down under as we ~talk~ about whippets (don’t do them), Sophie Wilde (obsessed), and which sequels we’d like to see (all of them).References: https://collider.com/talk-to-me-ending-explained/https://youtu.be/6gi0mJvq8S0?si=miYWKqPZMwZrHdkZhttps://www.indiewire.com/features/interviews/talk-to-me-interview-danny-michael-philippou-ari-aster-screenshot-text-1234892098/https://time.com/6298750/talk-to-me-directors-interview/https://www.instagram.com/p/CvlaNm4PF8U/https://www.theguardian.com/film/2023/aug/07/kuwait-bans-hit-australian-horror-film-talk-to-me-over-casting-of-trans-actor-zoe-terakeshttps://www.dexerto.com/tv-movies/talk-to-me-ending-explained-2227326/https://www.vulture.com/article/talk-to-me-ending-and-sequel-potential-explained.html https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/talk-to-me-has-impressive-10-million-opening-tailing-a24s-hereditary/

S3 Ep 153The Descent (2005): "Praying For Your Downfall, Queen"
EGirls trip!!! Who's ready for a lil weekend away with the ladies? We know we are, and we've got the most exciting destination in mind: It's a cave!!! In the middle of the woods!!! Can you imagine anything better? It's the perfect place to relax, kick back, and maybe even meet a whole new crew. They say the more the merrier, right? Does that still apply when you're talking about Appalachian cave creatures? Well, either way, the women of The Descent (2005) are about to find out, and there's a lot more to explore on a new episode of Spooky Tuesday. Join us as we spelunk down into the complicated nature of female friendship and discover a cavern of similarities between this film and the whole 47 Meters Down franchise. S3 Ep 152Influencer (2023): "Not A Girl's Girl"
ECan you be a girl's girl if you're killing other girls? Are we the ones not standing in feminine solidarity when we try to bring down a girl boss whose passion just so happens to be serial killing? These are the important philosophical questions we must ask ourselves on the Influencer (2023) episode of Spooky Tuesday. A Shudder exclusive that didn't make nearly as much of a splash as it deserved, this horror movie is as fun as it is gorgeous. It also just so happens to be Chelsea's birthday pick, so while we could pitch you on how it lays the groundwork for buying Girl Scout cookies as praxis, we'll probably just sit back, celebrate, and see if we can't find any of last season's Thin Mints hiding in the unexplored depths of our freezers. S3 Ep 151Saw (2004): "Soo Criminal Minds Coded"
ERise and shine, Spookies. You’re probably wondering what movie we’re about to cover. Well, I’ll tell you what it might be. It’s taken almost three years of intense planning and rigorous diorama-making, but at long last we’re ready to dip our toes into that one particular franchise. You know the one. Finally, we’re facing off against Saw (2004), the flick in which unsuspecting victims must prove how far they’d go to fight for survival. Now you, Spookies, have a chance to test your own determination and lust for life. Will you listen to the latest episode of Spooky Tuesday — or will you live to regret it? The choice is yours. We’ll be waiting.Resources:https://www.eonline.com/news/1087710/15-spooky-secrets-about-the-saw-franchisehttps://puzzleboxhorror.com/what-did-the-creators-of-saw-think-about-the-movie/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNiF7v8OUS4&ab_channel=HybridXeroFusehttps://www.tumblr.com/shittysawtraps/714262181969068032/sesamseed-yo-its-matt-imagine-jigsaw-bringing https://www.hypable.com/saw-movie-facts/

S3 Ep 150The Host (2013): "Would You Still Love Me If I Was A Worm?"
EIt's no Twilight, but we still need to talk about The Host (2013). No, not the Bong Joon Ho horror — we mean the Stephenie Meyer movie adaptation. That's right, it's time for another Fifth Tuesday, a.k.a. one of our non-spooky bonus episodes, and given that this film features a bonafide intergalactic invasion, we knew it would be the perfect way to close out Alien Month. After four weeks of figuring out all the various ways humanity might put a stop to attacks from outer space, it was time to ask the really important questions: What happens when the aliens win? Also, what if they're sort of sexy? With Saoirse Ronan doing her best bad Southern accent and Diane Kruger serving cunt in a ribbed white tank top, our latest installment of Spooky Tuesday does the work to tackle all the important topics: communism, supernatural love squares, and the true test of any romance. Resources:https://stepheniemeyer.com/the-books/the-host/the-host-playlist/ https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/aug/07/stephenie-meyer-id-like-to-be-remembered-for-writing-the-host-but-itll-be-twilight

S3 Ep 149Signs (2002): "Corn Is So Sinister"
EArt is all about engaging with the big questions in life, and when it comes to Signs (2002), the M. Night Shyamalan movie is no different. This early aughts sci-fi flick invites important conversations about predestination versus free will, what sins can truly be forgiven, and whether or not being obsessed with female Olympians makes you, as a woman, totally gay. It also gives us baby Abigail Breslin and Rory Culkin, and that's important, too. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday — and our second to last installment of Alien Month — we're taking a big swing as we break down all those topics and more, including the unnerving nature of America's favorite crop. It's not just a big lump with knobs, folks. References:https://screenrant.com/signs-ending-explained-meaning/https://screenrant.com/signs-movie-theory-creatures-not-aliens/

S3 Ep 148Mars Attacks! (1996): "Starring Ray J"
EHere’s the thing about Mars Attacks! (1996) — it’s not giving Tim Burton. We’re dedicating our third installment of Alien Month to the notoriously spooky director, but this flick is a little different from his most famous material. Though it includes a few CLEAR references to his earlier work, it’s missing his trademark emaciated waif aesthetic, is devoid of any claymation whatsoever, and doesn’t star his main bestie. It does, however, feature pretty much everyone else in Hollywood. The interstellar cast ranges from Oscar winners and nominees to Brandy’s little brother, plus Jack Nicholson times two just for fun. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re swapping out our Transatlantic accents for Martian and music as we bravely resist the urge to yodel all episode long.References:https://screenrant.com/mars-attacks-movie-facts-trivia/

S3 Ep 147The Blob (1958): "Based On A True Story"
EEver heard of pwdre ser? Good, then you can help us figure out how to pronounce it. On a new episode of Spooky Tuesday, Alien Month continues with The Blob (1958), a vintage horror flick based on a true story (or at least true science). Though this movie comes highly recommended by Chelsea’s mommy, it will also win over just about any audience member in five seconds flat. Seriously — we’re pretty sure it’s impossible to hear the theme song and not immediately start shimmying and shaking along to those boppy tunes. The saxophone? The harmonies? It’s simply everything (and the rest of the film is pretty good, too). S3 Ep 146Aliens (1986): "Billsy TwosWeeks"
EWhich came first, the alien or the egg? Alien (1979) may have raised that question, but Aliens (1986) takes the investigation a step further as they tack on an S and get into the plurals. And boy are we getting into the plurals. This August, we’re all aliens all the time here at Spooky Tuesday, and when we came up with the idea for Alien Month, we knew we’d have to blast off with a bang. That’s why we’re heading back to deep space with the long-awaited Sigourney Weaver sequel as we pick up just about where we left off (give or take 57 years).References:Director's Cut Additional/Deleted Scenes: https://youtu.be/epTetyfu1Gshttps://www.cinemablend.com/movies/aliens-behind-the-scenes-facts-from-james-camerons-sci-fi-action-sequelhttps://www.ign.com/articles/the-making-of-aliens-titan-rinzler-james-cameron-gale-anne-hurdhttps://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/aliens-turns-30-secrets-set-revealed/story?id=40556036https://jezebel.com/the-question-remains-would-you-bone-an-alien-1850680047

S2 Ep 145Lake Placid (1999): "Suck My Dick" ft. Out on the Lanai
EWhat’s better than watching Betty White curse out a bunch of cops? We can’t think of much — other than getting the chance to gush about it for an hour and a half. And we knew that if we were going to do that, we had to bring in the experts. So we invited Out on the Lanai, the first Golden Girls podcast, to join us on a new Spooky Tuesday as we covered Lake Placid (1999). Half a creature feature and half a Bill Pullman rom-com, this flick features Bridget Fonda mid-breakup spiral as she drags her butt out to the boonies of Maine to flirt with lady cops, banter with eccentric billionaires, and hunt for prehistoric monsters. Whether you’re comparing it to The Meg or to Nope or to Ally McBeal, there’s no denying that this movie makes for one golden time with the girls.Follow Out on the Lanai on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Check out their new episodes weekly on Apple and Spotify. You can find Kerri Doherty on Instagram and Twitter, and H. Alan Scott on Instagram as himself and as Sadie Pines. S3 Ep 144The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974): "Grower Not A Shower"
EHow has it taken us this long to cover one of the most influential films in horror history? On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're throwing it back to one of the very first final girls with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). The film that both introduced Leatherface to the world and invented the power tool as an instrument of psychological damage, this scary '70s story made a lasting impact on both the culture and hitchhiking crime statistics. But there's more to talk about than just that. Despite the torture porn connotations of the franchise at large, the original flick is pretty subtle — and it's absolutely stunning, too. S3 Ep 143The Meg (2018): "Silly Billy Blockbuster"
EDon't go in the water, Spookies — Sharky OneWeek is back with a vengeance. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're doing some deep sea exploration with The Meg (2018) to make sure we're ready for the upcoming sequel, but you might be surprised to discover how timely the first film actually is. With a cast that includes Rainn Wilson, Li Bingbing, Ruby Rose, and Masi Oka, this super-sized shark movie is exactly the kind of fun you're looking for. Plus, it stars '90s music video vixen Jason Statham stripping down, showing feet, and uttering some classic action movie leading man lines, so really what more could you want? S3 Ep 142The Return of the Living Dead (1985): "Party Time (Zombie's Version)"
EIn keeping with its fellow '70s and '80s horror movies, The Return of the Living Dead (1985) delivers a classic tale about an official governmental goof — which makes for some interesting timing considering that it's set right around the Fourth of July. This week on Spooky Tuesday, we decided to celebrate the holiday and the anniversary of the film's (totally true, just peep that title card) events in one fell swoop. On our latest episode, we're keeping the party time (zombie version) going as we enjoy this flick's killer soundtrack, discuss potential throuples, and get into a serious debate about who exactly is the dumbest of the dumb bitches. S3 Ep 141ParaNorman (2012): "Not All Gay Men Are Twinks"
EWe'd say we didn't know how badly we needed ParaNorman (2012) on our Spooky Tuesday Pride Month lineup until we saw it, but Sydney definitely did. With everything going on in today's ~*~political climate~*~ (and despite this movie being a decade old), the stop-motion masterpiece feels more timely than ever. It's not just that it was the first animated film to feature a canonically queer character, although it totally was, just FYI. It's also that the whole story challenges viewers to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to the central message that it's OK to be different. If you still need convincing, we'll go ahead and say this: It's cozy horror, babes. Haven't you heard that's all the rage? For a special bonus episode, we teamed up with Raiders of the Lost Podcast after brothers James and Anthony invited us to join their '70s and '80s horror movie draft. S3 Ep 140Knife + Heart (2018): "Homocidal"
EIs Knife + Heart (2018) the gayest movie we've covered so far? After some of our followers suggested it would be a good fit for our Pride Month lineup, we knew we had to check it out. The premise alone was promising — it's a horror movie about the creatives behind gay porn in 1970s France, so say no more — but the soundtrack and visuals on this film are pretty vibey, too. On our newest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're venturing into French film as we turn the subtitles on and do our best to fight against any reading-before-bedtime sense memory. S3 Ep 139They/Them (2022): "Glee Project Vibes"
EIf you missed out on watching They/Them (2022) when it debuted last summer, you better step up your pussies and get to it! While it doesn’t actually feature any theys slashing thems like the title might have you believe, this conversion camp horror movie is well worth a watch. We’re not saying it’s good exactly — that’s for you to judge — but there is definitely a lot going on here. For one, there’s Kevin Bacon, a CLEAR REFERENCE to Friday the 13th. There’s also a Jason Voorhees name drop followed by a pivotal pride month moment. On a new Spooky Tuesday, we’re talking about all that and more as we explore the Glee Project vibes, surprise singalongs, and absolutely mesmerizing monologues.References:https://www.them.us/story/they-them-peacock-horror-movie-reviewhttps://www.out.com/film/2022/8/19/theythem-creative-queer-horror-film-fails-its-premisehttps://horrorpress.com/reviews/2124/review-they-them-is-a-problematic-yes-no/https://variety.com/2022/film/reviews/they-them-review-peacock-they-slash-them-1235324348/https://collider.com/they-them-review-kevin-bacon-john-logan-blumhouse-peacock/https://bloody-disgusting.com/editorials/3732262/they-them-how-the-conversion-camp-slasher-fails-to-meet-the-moment/https://bloody-disgusting.com/editorials/3731082/im-strong-enough-to-not-do-this-in-defense-of-polarizing-slasher-they-them/

S3 Ep 138The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975): "The Gay Agenda"
EHappy Pride, Spookies! We might have kicked celebrations off early with our May Fifth Tuesday episode, but now we’re making sure the rest of this month’s pride picks all have that special spooky something. Up first? None other than the always iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), a movie that might as well have invented the Gay Agenda™?. While this flick had a bit of a slow start, it exploded into a cult classic that still plays in theaters all over the world. On our latest installment of Spooky Tuesday, we’re joined by pal Danny Dunitz as we break down the theater play’s origin story, its move to the silver screen, and all the important callbacks you need to know to watch along. S3 Ep 137But I'm A Cheerleader (1999): "Girlie Pop Behavior"
EIt's still May for a few more hours, but Pride Month starts *now* at Spooky Tuesday. We just couldn't wait — and with a new Fifth Tuesday giving us the chance to cover any movie across all genres, we knew we had to do But I'm A Cheerleader (1999). An instant queer classic, this candy-colored flick is packed full of heart, silliness, and undeniable chemistry between Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall. Whether you first watched it as a preteen without parental supervision or only saw it after MUNA and Phoebe Bridgers dropped their "Silk Chiffon" music video, it's pretty much consensus that Jamie Babbit's satirical rom-com is required viewing — and if you somehow still haven't seen it, well, we would be honored to make the introduction. S3 Ep 136Renfield (2023): "Should've Been A Musical"
EHello, there! Would you like to sign our petition to get the dance sequence reinstated in Nicholas Hoult’s Renfield (2023)? It’s tragic the way that deleted scene was left on the cutting room floor, but with your help, we can not only get it back in the movie but also get the whole movie remade as a musical! Here at Spooky Tuesday, we think Nic Cage’s take on a modern-day Dracula had a lot of potential, but we also have some notes. While we loved the gore and the fact that someone snorted a centipede, let’s just say the central love story was no Romeo & Juliet. On our latest episode, we’re sharing our vision and calling out all the CLEAR references to the vampire lore that came before.References:Deleted Dance Number: https://youtu.be/KE_GQM3TXbshttps://screenrant.com/renfield-dracula-universal-monsters-easter-eggs-references/
