S5 Ep 234The Wicker Man (2006): "To Bee or Not To Bee"
EWhen one theme month ends, another begins — or at least that's the way it goes at Spooky Tuesday these days. Next up? NIC MAY-GE, a.k.a. four weeks of scary movies all dedicated to the works of Nicolas Cage. We're kicking things off with The Wicker Man (2006), an American reimagining of the 1973 folk horror, but what makes this flick most famous is a line that didn't actually make the theatrical cut. On our newest episode, we're playing compare and contrast between all the various versions as we dig into the conspiracy theory of it all, shout out some iconic quotes, and try to tell apart an island of beautiful blondes. S5 Ep 433Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011): "Aped Out"
EYou did it, Spookies! You survived PLANET OF THE APE-RIL! So to celebrate, we thought we'd spend our final installment exploring the new era of the franchise. In many ways, Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) is as much a prequel as it is a reboot, and it offers an interesting starting point for an updated look at this story. With our now extensive knowledge of the original movies, we're ready to talk not only about all of the CLEAR references sprinkled throughout, but also to analyze what might be coming down the pipeline for the future of the Planet of the Apes. References:https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/16wybuq/references_to_previous_planet_of_the_apes/?share_id=zK4W7bipDGZBgl59VSCjX&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_source=share&utm_term=4

S5 Ep 432Planet of the Apes (2001): "Waifish Chimpanzee"
EAlright, Spookies, we finally finished making our way through the OG flicks, which means it's time to start talking reboots. That's right, we've circled so far through PLANET OF THE APE-RIL that we're now right back at the beginning with Planet of the Apes (2001). For take two of the franchise, Tim Burton teamed up with Mark Wahlberg and Helena Bonham Carter to see if they had something new to add to the conversation, but studio meddling may have caused some major problems. Join us for a new Spooky Tuesday as we discuss how it stacks up to the originals, its fidelity to the Pierre Boulle novel, and the way Rick Baker finally got the tightline right. S5 Ep 431Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) and Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973): "Ape-Jesus"
We're halfway through PLANET OF THE APE-RIL, Spookies! And we've just about worked our way through all of the originals. This week on Spooky Tuesday, we're wrapping up that portion of our Planet of the Apes theme month as we cover Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972) and Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973). Taking its new Earth-bound setting to the next level, the final two flicks in this franchise look to the not-so-distant future (which is still our present-day-past) as they tackle the '90s and beyond and start to lay the groundwork for some familiar settings. S5 Ep 230Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971): "Tiny Sprinkle of Ape-Bortion"
ENot sure how more Planet of the Apes could possibly play out after the end of that last movie? Don't worry, that's a recurring theme for this franchise, but new sequels kept getting sold nonetheless — and Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) is pretty much the king of the retcon. This flick manages to be both funny and philosophical while holding a mirror up to its audience, and on our latest installment of PLANET OF THE APE-RIL, we're going retro as we reexamine this snapshot of the ‘70s.References:https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/why-escape-from-the-planet-of-the-apes-was-ahead-of-its-time/http://www.potamediaarchive.com/EPTR.htm

S5 Ep 229Planet of the Apes (1968) and Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970): "Nuclear Fallout New Yorkers" ft. Ashley Reese
ESpookies, this latest theme month has been nearly a year in the making, which is why we're so excited to finally welcome you to PLANET OF THE APE-RIL. Utilizing all five weeks of April, we're taking you on a journey through space, time, and one of last century's most famous (and political) scifi/horror franchises. Starting with the first two movies in the original iteration — Planet of the Apes (1968) and Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) — we're joined by special guest Ashley Reese as we travel to the far-off future and hold up a mirror to the not-so-distant past. Follow Ashley Reese on Instagram and Twitter. You can check out her Substack newsletter, Bad Brain, here. S5 Ep 228Queen of the Damned (2002): "3,000-5,000 Goths"
EIt feels like just yesterday we started Retroactive Y2K month, but tragically it's already time to bring it to an end. That said, just like with the original Y2K, we're ready to party like there's no tomorrow, which is why we brought in Queen of the Damned (2002) to help us celebrate Monica's birthday. Part of the larger Interview with the Vampire world and a pseudo-sequel to the 1994 flick, this movie doesn't star Tom Cruise, but it's still an iconic entry into the Lestat Serving Cunt canon. Anne Rice may not approve, but Aaliyah's got the moves on a new Spooky Tuesday. S5 Ep 227Ginger Snaps (2000): "Your Favorite Horror Movie's Favorite Horror Movie"
EIf you've seen Ginger Snaps (2000), you know it was a movie pretty much made for Spooky Tuesday — so it's kind of a shock that it's taken us this long to get around to it. But when it comes to ending the WW part of WWVVSDE (Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event), we just might have saved the best for last. On this week's episode, we're diving into the Katharine Isabelle cult classic, breaking down the social commentary exactly as Emily Perkins would've wanted, and calling out all of the cultural touch points past and future that this flick was in conversation with. S5 Ep 226Silent Hill (2006): "Game Heads"
EWe're not exactly big game heads over here at Spooky Tuesday, but that doesn't mean we can't get down with a good video game adaptation. This week, we're playing along with our quarterly Patreon pick by covering Silent Hill (2006), a movie attempting to cover at least a few games worth of content while throwing in some original material, too. It's an ambitious project — and how successfully it was pulled off is definitely up to who you ask. On our latest episode, we're talking about those OBVIOUS gay vibes, the original inspiration for Pyramid Head, and sharing all our best theories of what in God's (mom's) name is actually going on. S5 Ep 225Corpse Bride (2005): "Always a Corpse Bridesmaid"
ESpookies, it's time to fulfill the final part of a deal made all the way back in October. To complete our children's horror trifecta (and the second half of a long-separated Tim Burton TwosWeeks), we're throwing it back to Corpse Bride (2005), an animated musical about life, death, and love triangles. Inspired by Jewish folklore and running the color spectrum from drab to fab, this sweet story can warm even a hater's heart, but a healthy dose of nostalgia doesn't hurt. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're sharing our favorite moments, CLEAR references, and ships that should've been. S5 Ep 224The Shape of Water (2017): "Fish Sex Vibe"
EAll good things must come to an end, Spookies, but we wanted to send Monster Fucker February off with a beautiful goodbye. That's why we decided to close out this month's theme by covering The Shape of Water (2017), Guillermo del Toro's semi-underwater romance inspired by 1954's Creature from the Black Lagoon. A gorgeous period piece and Oscar winner several times over, this flick isn't lacking in fashion or function, and we're talking about it all — from sexy egg connections to upsettingly relevant political parallels — on a new episode of Spooky Tuesday. S5 Ep 223Splice (2009): "Instant Abomination"
Here at Spooky Tuesday, we go through the highs and lows of horror — and when you fit the theme, you fit the theme, which is how Splice (2009) ended up on our schedule for Monster Fucker February. Whether you've never heard of it, were scandalized after watching it in theaters, or have been eagerly/nervously awaiting the opportunity to see it for yourself after reading a certain Internet famous LiveJournal review, this movie makes for quite the viewing experience. It's famously awful, but also features two Academy Awards winners and nominees, and isn't that exactly the sort of conflict that can make life so interesting? On our new episode, Monica takes us all down the rabbit (plus kangaroo plus bird plus fish plus human plus slug or whatever) hole as we dissect this abominable creation. S5 Ep 222My Animal (2023): "Eggrotica"
When we went hunting for the right second movie to satisfy our confluence of themes — Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event (WWVVSDE) and Monster Fucker February — we knew we had a tricky task ahead of us. Luckily, a quick Google search lead us to My Animal (2023), a queer werewolf romance that flew under the radar thanks to the unlucky timing of its initial release. Featuring an acid trip at a casino on a full moon, Amandla Stenberg and Bobbi Salvör Menuez in an ice hockey/figure skater flirtation, and a bona fide seggs dream a.k.a. a sex dream with eggs, this flick comes with plenty of reasons it’s worth a watch (and that’s without even getting into the Love Lies Bleeding of it all). Now that you can check it out on Shudder, we’re hoping this story gets a second wind, so join us as we break it all down on a new Spooky Tuesday.References:Shelley Duval's Faerie Tale Theatre: Beauty and the Beasthttps://www.dreadcentral.com/news/446611/my-animal-stars-amandla-stenberg-and-bobbi-salvor-menuez-talk-their-queer-new-werewolf-horror/https://www.dreadcentral.com/interviews/462854/my-animal-actors-bobbi-salvor-menuez-and-amandla-stenberg-on-this-horror-classic/https://screenrant.com/my-animal-director-amandla-stenberg-chemistry-sundance/https://www.them.us/story/my-animal-movie-jacqueline-castel-interviewFried or Fertilized Music VideoLemme Smang It Music Video

S5 Ep 221Nosferatu (2024): "CRRRAZY STYLEEE"
Back in December, Nosferatu (2024) was the movie that launched a million memes, and we're ready to join the fun here at Spooky Tuesday. But we're not just covering Robert Eggers's latest paranormal period piece on our new episode, we're also celebrating a true confluence of themed coverage. While we picked this flick to be our next installment of WWVVSDE (Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event), it's also kicking off a little thing we like to call Monster Fucker February. Join us as we debate a very complicated love triangle, and be sure to stay until the end to learn the ~true~ significance of all the lilac featured in the film, crrrazy styleee. S5 Ep 220You're Next (2011): "Hunger Games for WASPs" ft. Joey Medina
Spookies, you've been asking us to cover this one for a while — but maybe we were just waiting to find the right guest to bring home to meet the family. This week, we're covering You're Next (2011) with Joey Medina, a queer horror lover and journalist we met a few months back. We're coming together for one special night as we tackle one of the big movies in the mumblegore genre, pay homage to final girls everywhere, and point out all the CLEAR references to movies like Scream, Home Alone, The Strangers, and more. Follow Joey Medina on Instagram and Twitter. You can learn more about him on his website and check out some of his work on Collider. S5 Ep 219Scooby-Doo (2002): "Sugar Fucking Ray"
EThis week's pick has been on our Matty Lilly Birthday Episode Wish List for years — and now it's finally time for Scooby-Doo (2002) to have its day on Spooky Island. A live-action flick with an iconic cast that brings one of television's most famous cartoons to the big screen, this movie went through about a million different tweaks and rewrites before it finally made its debut. Not only was it toned down from an R-rated adult comedy to a PG that still managed to be pretty provocative (or, as Scoob might say, ruhrohcative), it also got a lot less gay. Not totally no gay, though — and given that it's got a full, feature-length, starring-role dose of Matthew Lillard, we're pretty sure this is going to be one of our most special installments of Spooky Tuesday so far. S5 Ep 21830 Days of Night (2007): "30 LAYS of Night"
EHold up — did we just travel through time? Somehow, it is simultaneously both January and Novembleak as we cover Josh Hartnett's 30 Days of Night (2007), this month's second entry into WWVVSDE (Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event). Messy time-keeping might just be the theme of the episode too, especially as we take on a monster movie where the premise is that those nocturnal bloodsuckers of legend don't just have a few hours to hunt their prey, they've got four full weeks. Originally meant for the screen and then turned into a comic book and then adapted back for the screen, this story definitely had a vision, and we're ready to discuss how well it stuck the landing on a new Spooky Tuesday. S5 Ep 217An American Werewolf In London (1981): "Ho(rror)Ro(m)Co(m)"
EWait a second... Has one of the most famous monster movies in horror actually been a HoRoCo all along? Now that a new month is here (welcome to 2025, everybody!), we're continuing WWVVSDE (Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event) with An American Werewolf in London (1981), a flick that manages to balance body horror and bisexual bed chem with surprising grace. Between writer/director John Landis's colorful comedic interjections and the legendary Rick Baker's intense, practical effects transformation, this film has a lot going for it, and we're digging our claws in on a new episode of Spooky Tuesday. S5 Ep 216When Harry Met Sally... (1989): "Fake Orgasm in the First 2 Mins"
A new year is right around the corner, Spookies, and you're going to want to start it off right. That's why we're ending our 2024 by watching quite possibly the *best* New Year's Eve movie of all time. For our December Fifth Tuesday, we're cuddling up for a cozy night in with When Harry Met Sally... (1989), a romcom that truly nails both the rom and the com. That seems to be a rare feat in our modern age, which is why we're manifesting more yearning and naked affection in cinema for 2025. Join us as we set that intention and celebrate a classic on our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday. References:Cowboy Table

S5 Ep 215The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993): "Christmas Isn't A Phase, Mom!"
Any goth kid, past or present, could tell you this truth: The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) pretty much IS the reason for the season. It's the perfect transition movie from Halloween to the holidays, and from September to January, there's no wrong time to watch (or even year-round if you're a true Hot Topic aficionado). For many, this flick has enough nostalgia factor to earn it a permanent place on the annual lineup... and then maybe there are also a few people who are less enthusiastic. On the latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're living like Jack and Sally as we dress up, sing along, and make sure some of us don't poop the party TOO much. S5 Ep 214Underworld (2003): "Monster Fucker For Werewolves"
Sorry we left you in the lurch for a couple weeks there, Spookies! Thankfully, we're back in full force with a new installment of Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event (WWVVSDE). Another early-aughts monster movie featuring Kate Beckinsale, Underworld (2003) is treading some familiar territory — but unlike Van Helsing, this flick did manage to launch its own franchise. In fact, there are a whole bunch of movies and even video games centered around the ~Eternal War~ through the eras, but we thought we'd start at the beginning. On our latest episode, we're exploring the all-blue aesthetic, experimenting with wig work, and fawning over Michael Sheen as we uncover all of the various Twilight parallels. S5 Ep 213Thanksgiving (2023): "Dead Mommy Traumy"
After covering the Grindhouse double feature last year — trailers included, of course — we were primed and ready to get Thanksgiving (2023) on our schedule. Unfortunately, we came around to the idea just a few weeks too late… and this flick sort of feels like the kind you cover around the holiday it’s named for. Thankfully, 11 months later, the time has finally come to sit down at the table with Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, and Gina Gershon, and we’re ready to sip our Diet Pepsi and dig in. On a new episode of Spooky Tuesday, we’re seeing what Eli Roth has made of the concept he first came up with almost two decades ago (albeit a little jokingly) as we talk about CLEAR references, real historical figures, and ominous men’s first names. S5 Ep 212Smile (2022): "Is Everything Okay, Bestie?"
Heyyyy, bestie. How are you doing after the last few weeks? Feeling any better? Well, we weren’t when we recorded this episode. We were still processing some pretty bad news — but that’s actually sort of to theme. On our newest Spooky Tuesday, we’re talking about Smile (2022), a movie all about trauma and trying to grin-and-bear your way through it. A few years back, this was one of the season’s most hotly anticipated flicks, but it didn’t necessarily stick the landing. Opinions were split here at Spooky Tuesday, but after Chelsea and Monica saw Smile 2 in 4DX (which totally slayed, BTW), we were finally ready to revisit it and get Sydney’s take. Join us as we discuss curses, share our theories, and lay the groundwork for our eventual episode where we give Skye Riley the shine she deserves. S5 Ep 211Van Helsing (2004): "Be Our Friend Or Die"
ESpookies, it’s time for our second installment of WWVVSDE (Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event), and we’re keeping the party going with Van Helsing (2004). When we realized that Sydney-palooza would bring our girl back to LA this October (if you happen to be wondering about our timeline or blissful ignorance of current events lol), we knew we wanted something that would be fun to watch together, and this flick definitely fits that bill. Not only does it tick the boxes for every element of our theme, it also stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale as monsters hunters who take on (and maybe even team up with) some classic Universal creatures. This movie dares to ask, “Is it going against god to fuck a monk?” and we’re ready to get to the bottom of that question on a new, in-person episode of Spooky Tuesday. S5 Ep 210The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009): "THE Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Movie" ft. Sarah Elizabeth Gallagher
EThe days are getting darker, Halloween has come and gone, and winter is right around the corner. If SAD is starting to set in — or just the sads in general — then we've got the perfect cure-all, and it’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009). It’s got romance, monsters, and mental illness. What else could you possibly need? It’s also the start of a little something we like to call Werewolf vs. Vampire Seasonal Depression Event, where we'll be sporadically covering movies featuring werewolves, vampires, or maybe even both if you're lucky. On our latest episode, you’re the luckiest, and so are we as bonafide Twilight expert Sarah Elizabeth Gallagher helps us break it all down.Follow Sarah Elizabeth Gallagher on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube and check her out in Rolling Stone's Twilight retrospective here. S5 Ep 209Double, Double, Toil And Trouble (1993): "Jacuzzi Jacuzzi Hostage Negotiations"
EAfter last year’s Halloween Fifth Tuesday, many discussions were had about how to celebrate the occasion again in 2024 — but, ultimately, there was only one answer that everybody was definitely 100% on board about and excited for and agreed to without any trouble. Unanimously and in perfect unison, we all chose to revisit our shared childhoods with Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (1993), the made-for-TV movie starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The tiny twins may have been well into building their empire by then (after all, they started as literal infants), but they were still getting used to the acting game, and it showed in their adorable performance as they kept accidentally looking into the camera. That said, they still gave a masterclass in sass, and they held their own amidst stars like Cloris Leachman, Eric McCormack, and Meshach Taylor. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we’re enjoying the autumnal vibes and trying not to get too bogged down in ‘90s era problematic elements as we go on a little adventure and learn the magic words: Jacuzzi jacuzzi!

S5 Ep 208Terrifier (2016): "Pussy Torture"
EThe promos for Terrifier 3 claim that Art the Clown is "practically as much of a horror icon as Michael, Jason, and Freddy," and based on what Monica and Sydney saw at Midsummer Scream, that just might be true. We had to check it out for ourselves — which is why we're kicking off Sydneypalooza by throwing it back to Terrifier (2016). This movie may not have marked Art's original debut (that honor goes to All Hallows’ Eve), but it was his first solo flick and David Howard Thornton's first turn in the role. It's also batshit crazy, and we're breaking it all down on Sydney’s birthday episode of Spooky Tuesday.References:https://youtu.be/QIprVbrIwKk?si=AmhFPUVW7TZTJQ5zhttps://www.thedailybeast.com/terrifier-actress-on-the-nude-death-scene-that-made-horror-movie-history

S5 Ep 207The Substance (2024): "Let's Work It Out on the Remix"
EGirl, it's so confusing sometimes to be a girl — especially when you inject yourself with a mysterious substance that splits you into two separate bodies. Such is the case with The Substance (2024), the latest body horror flick dominating the pop culture conversation. Starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley as Hollywood stars who are simultaneously both One and At Odds With Each Other (you might even say they're both sides of the coin the industry loves to spend), this movie is equal parts eye candy and — well, whatever you'd call the exact opposite of that. It's not just visually provocative, though. It also prompts meaningful conversations about aging and beauty standards, and we're diving right in on a new episode of Spooky Tuesday. S5 Ep 206The Craft (1996): "Homophobic Ally"
ECan you believe that we haven't covered The Craft (1996) yet? Despite it being the inspiration behind our original Season 1 episode art, the (oc)cult classic never actually managed to make it onto our schedule. Now that we're in our fifth season, it finally felt like the right time. A Halloween must watch for witchy weirdos of all kinds, this flick is all about embracing your inner power... so long as you use it for good. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're making magic together as we point out CLEAR references, explore how life imitates art, and emphasize the importance of ceremonial lil kissies shared between friends. S5 Ep 205A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987): "Come and Get Me, Bitch" ft. Diandra Lazor
ECan you believe we're kicking off our fifth year of Spooky Tuesday? It's like something out of a dream... which gave us an idea. For the premiere of our latest and greatest season yet, we decided it was time to let our wildest imaginations run away with us as we cover A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987). But we knew we weren't prepared to face one of horror's most famous boogeymen alone this time, so we invited a friend to help guide us. A Freddy aficionado and self-proclaimed FredHead, Diandra Lazor is a franchise superfan, and she was ready to share her expert insight, show off her vast array of Krueger clothes, and help us channel a certain spooky star as we say, "Welcome to Season 5, bitch!" S4 Ep 204Paranormal Activity (2009) & Paranormal Activity 2 (2010): "Rage Bait"
EDon’t tell us you thought the double features were over! We’re having a two-movie Tuesweek extravaganza here at Spooky Tuesday, and given the fact that this is our Season 4 finale, it only felt right to go out with a bang. That’s why we knew we had to turn our Paranormal Activity (2009) episode into a movie marathon, especially since Paranormal Activity 2 (2010) dovetails so nicely with the first. Or does it? For our final episode of the season, we’re breaking into the found footage franchise as we explore the lore and try to control our rage reactions enough to have a civilized conversation. It’s not just our season finale — it’s also the last day to order our fall merch! We've got an exciting new merch design available on shirts, sweatshirts, and tote bags(!!!!), and we've also got Spooky Tuesday logo beanies ready to keep your head warm all the way 'til spring. S4 Ep 203Happy Death Day (2017) & Happy Death Day 2U (2019): "Perfect Double Feature"
EWhen life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. And when the universe gives you a second birthday episode, you make it a double feature. Luckily, Chelsea knows just the right flicks to pick — and they happen to be on theme. Birthday-time-loop-slasher stories Happy Death Day (2017) and Happy Death Day 2U (2019) are best viewed back-to-back, and they're both a hell of a lot of fun. Perfectly straddling genre lines, these horror-rom-comedies (hocoros?) will have you feeling the full spectrum of human emotion. They also feature all kinds of creative death scenes, and with Jessica Rothe as the face of the franchise, you'll be on the edge of your seat for each and every one. On our latest Spooky Tuesday, we're talking about our favorite kills, our college crushes, and shouting out these movies' most iconic lines.Want to join the celebrations? You can buy yourself a spooky little present! We've got an exciting new merch design available on shirts, sweatshirts, and tote bags(!!!!), and we've also got Spooky Tuesday logo beanies ready to keep your head warm all the way 'til spring. S4 Ep 202I Saw the TV Glow (2024): "The Horror of Introspection"
EThere's still time... to watch I Saw the TV Glow (2024) before this week's episode, Spookies. And it's sort of required viewing if you want to join us as we explore the neon, nostalgic world of Jane Schoenbrun's sophomore film. An unsettling slow-burn starring Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine with special guests Amber Benson, Fred Durst, and Phoebe Bridgers, this flick throws it back to an earlier time when waiting for the new episode of your favorite show so you could watch it with your bestie was absolutely everything. Let's be real, though. If you're like us (someone who... likes TV), it can still be everything. Join us as we immerse ourselves in the universe of The Pink Opaque and kick off of the fall with a hearty soup party. Yayyy, soup party!!You know what else is a fun way to celebrate fall? Doing a little spooky shopping! We've got an exciting new merch design available on shirts, sweatshirts, and tote bags(!!!!), and we've also got Spooky Tuesday logo beanies ready to keep your head warm all the way 'til spring. S4 Ep 201I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006): "Do Drugs, Not Pranks"
ESpookies, we’ll ALWAYS know the joys of I Know What You Did Last ? SUMMER ?, but it’s time to put this theme event on ice — especially since the third movie moves to a little ski town in the off-season. Not the final film in a trilogy so much as a bonus flick in the franchise, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) isn’t afraid to shake things up. And by that we mean, leave behind pretty much any familiar name or face outside of the infamous fisherman outfit. If you’re wondering what this slasher’s boogeyman is doing all the way out in Colorado, you’re not alone, but you’ll need to see it to believe it. And if you don’t believe it, well, we’re sharing our theories on the newest episode of Spooky Tuesday.References:https://bloody-disgusting.com/editorials/3818747/ill-always-know-what-you-did-last-summer-the-franchises-supernatural-sequel/https://certifiedforgotten.com/ill-always-know-what-you-did-last-summer/How You Remind Me - Nickelback Music Video: https://youtu.be/Aiay8I5IPB8?si=aMAGUP7Z8qNJOWigThe Reason - Hoobastank Music Video: https://youtu.be/fV4DiAyExN0?si=IwD7O8Aw6fB0qfIbhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulpahttps://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Tulpa

S4 Ep 200Scary Movie (2000) & Scream (1996): "Innards on the Outards"
EWe've hit a big milestone, Spookies! It's officially our 200th episode, and we wanted to do something special to celebrate. We weren't sure what, though, so we left our movie selection up to our listeners and Patrons, and they decided to throw it back to Scary Movie (2000). The Wayans family's parody flick took on some of the major horror franchises of the '90s, and its inclusion in our line-up was timed perfectly to I Know What You Did Last ? SUMMER ?. But we realized that it would be pretty much impossible to talk about this flick without also getting back into Scream (1996) — so we're instituting our first Spooky Take2sDay, too. Join us for a double feature as we compare and contrast these genre-defining films and wax a little nostalgic about our four year-long journey as a podcast. S4 Ep 199Beetlejuice (1988): "The Juice Is Loose"
EWith the sequel coming out in just a few weeks, we decided it was time to revisit an old classic here at Spooky Tuesday. When Beetlejuice (1988) first hit theaters over 36 years ago, audiences fell instantly in love with the titular character — even though he was meant to be more of a disgusting villain than a charming rogue. In fact, he's become so iconic that it's almost easy to forget Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis play the actual main characters. It doesn't help that Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara are major scene stealers too, but this whole flick is packed with fun, funny moments, and it's hard to choose just one fave. On our latest episode, we're digging into the grimy, ghostly nitty-gritty as we try not to summon too many evil spirits. S4 Ep 198Longlegs (2024): "The Silence of the Vibes"
EThe word on the street was that Longlegs (2024) would be the "scariest movie of the year," but does it live up to the hype? We decided to check out Neon's new release for ourselves here at Spooky Tuesday, and we're ready to discuss whether those Silence of the Lambs comparisons are truly holding up. Is Maika Monroe's Lee Harker giving Clarice? Does Nic Cage's titular serial killer lean more Hannibal Lecter or Buffalo Bill? Director Osgood Perkins is definitely packing in the CLEAR references, but they might lean more musical than cinematic. On our latest episode, we're doing our best to catch this flick's sneaky visual cues, get to the bottom of where all that buzz came from, and determine whether Longlegs's alias is actually appropriate. S4 Ep 197I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998): "Trauma Bahama"
EYou can't get rid of us that easily, Spookies. We're not only back for more I Know What You Did Last ? SUMMER ?, we're all together and stronger than ever on our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday. This week, we're keeping our summer theme going with I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), and we're celebrating in style by actually all being in the same room as we sing, swap places, profess our love to Brandy, and discuss Jack Black's dreads. We're also getting into the very real CLEAR references this movie makes to the original novel this series was based on and saying lots of other smart stuff (like the capital of Brazil — impressed, much?), so make sure you tune in to see just how in tune with each other the three of us are. S4 Ep 196Bring It On (2000): "Spit Kink"
EBrr, it's cold in here, Spookies! And you know what that means: There simply MUST be some Toros in the atmosphere. It's time for another Fifth Tuesday bonus episode here at Spooky Tuesday, and we're tumbling head-first into the summer slumber party vibes. Break out your pom-poms and warm up your spirit fingers, because this week we're bringing it with Bring It On (2020). An endlessly-quotable Kirsten Dunst classic that inspired about a billion bisexual crises and made toothbrushing sexy, this is one of the most iconic flicks of the early aughts — and it also features mega-babes Eliza Dushku and Gabrielle Union. What else could you possibly want?References:Bring It On Deleted Scenes and Alternate Endingshttps://www.eonline.com/photos/31324/21-bring-it-on-behind-the-scenes-secretshttps://www.advocate.com/film/2020/8/27/bring-it-director-explains-intentional-use-gay-slur

S4 Ep 195MaXXXine (2024): "Scream 3 Wannabe"
EIt's the third film in a hot horror franchise AND it makes the hop to Hollywood, so the comparisons between MaXXXine (2024) and Scream 3 were inevitable — but are they a compliment or a criticism? In our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're covering the newest (but perhaps not final) movie in Ti West's spooky saga starring Mia Goth. A direct sequel to 2022's X but coming on the heels of prequel Pearl, this flick has a tough job striking the right tone and trying to stand alone, but one thing we can say for it is that the accent work definitely makes it stand out. S4 Ep 194Disturbia (2007): "Me So Horny"
EWhere were you that April if you weren't seeing Disturbia (2007) in theaters? It was the year of Shia, and a new creepy classic was emerging out of the mid-aughts. This flick is a quintessential millennial movie, an updated take on Hitchcock's Rear Window (though legally we should warn you that we're not speaking literally, because there's like legit drama there). It also shares a name with an iconic Rihanna song that'll get stuck in your head faster than you can ask, "What's wrong with me? Why do I feel like this?" On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're doing our best not to break into song too much as we throw it back to our earlier horror days. S4 Ep 193Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988): "Should Be A Musical"
EThey didn't put an extra ~camp~ in the title for nothing! Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) is the sequel that did the absolute most by doing the absolute least. What this movie lacks in plot, it makes up for in pizzazz — and "party hats" galore. Seriously, it has its own in-universe Tit Patrol, and business is booming at Camp Rolling Hills. But while this flick may not have reached its full potential (a few camp songs does not a musical make), its CLEAR references and low-key celebrity siblings mean it's still more than worth a watch. On our latest Spooky Tuesday, we're comparing notes on our favorite quotes and kills as Angela returns for a second summer of fun. S4 Ep 192I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997): "? SUMMER ?" ft. Super Scary Podcast
EStuck in that post-Pride slump?? Don't worry, Spookies, we've got just the thing to pick you right back up. If you're also feeling like it's been too long (one whole week!) since we last indulged in a themed event here at Spooky Tuesday, you'll be glad to hear we're keeping the party going with I Know What You Did Last ? SUMMER ?!!!!!! In case that doesn't speak for itself, we'll spell it out a little more plainly: We're celebrating I Know What You Did Last Summer Summer, where we're covering all three movies from the franchise starting with the original I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). S4 Ep 191Hellraiser (1987): "Looking Kink in the Eye"
EThis Pride Month, we've been messy. Toxic. Filthy. And now it's time to get a little... kinky. Grab your leather and your spikes, Spookies, because we're summoning the Cenobites with Hellraiser (1987). Written and directed by Clive Barker, the author of the original novella it was based on, this flick kicked off a major horror franchise — and it was the first to introduce audiences to the iconic figure now-known as Pinhead. We're here and we're queer all year round, but for the grand finale of our 2024 Pride lineup, we're exploring the subcultures this film has its roots in and maybe accidentally inventing some scenes of our own. Anyone out there down to become a bladder punk?References: https://horrorpress.com/editorials/6569/queer-sexuality-in-clive-barkers-hellraiser-1987/https://www.filmcomment.com/blog/queer-now-then-1987/ https://www.wmagazine.com/culture/megan-thee-stallion-halloween-costume-hellraiser-pinheadGottmik's Shenobite LookGene Kelly in The Pirate

S4 Ep 190Pink Flamingos (1972): "ACAB: All Cops Are Barbecue" ft. Paul Jacob Presley
EThere really is no way to describe John Waters's work other than queer, which is why Pink Flamingos (1972) had to be our third Pride Month pick. An indie made on a shoe-string budget and starring drag icon Divine as the "filthiest person alive," this flick truly pushes the envelope, and it doesn't matter if we're talking poop, penises, or poultry. Like Degrassi, it goes there — which is why we enlisted a little extra help to cover it. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're joined by John Waters fan and filmmaker Paul Jacob Presley as we break down this creepy, crass camp classic. S4 Ep 189Love Lies Bleeding (2024): "Disgustingly Sexy"
EThe Pride parade continues with our second pick of the month, and things are really heating up here at Spooky Tuesday. If you were worried this year's lineup wasn't queer enough, then you can put those fears to bed and wake them up with an egg-white omelet, because Love Lies Bleeding (2024) is dangerously gay and disgustingly sexy. Featuring Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian and directed by Rose Glass, this thriller doesn't skimp on the violence or romance, and it even sprinkles in a little bit of body horror just to drive its point home. Join us on our latest episode as we share our appreciation for muscle mommies and mixed feelings about mullets. S4 Ep 188Interview with the Vampire (1994): "History Will Say They Were Roommates"
EHappy Pride Month, Spookies!!!! It's officially time for us to be our best, most canonically queer selves, and we're kicking off this year's line-up with a supernatural classic: Interview with the Vampire (1994). If you're not watching the TV show, you totally should be, but first we have to pay our dues to the OG Lestat de Lioncourt. Tom Cruise is absolutely That Bitch in this role, and he and Brad Pitt and Christian Slater competed in a literal handsome-off for their parts in this movie (a competition that should've also included Antonio Banderas, BTW). While this flick explicitly features two gay dads raising their iconic vampire daughter, it still very much could be gayer — but don't worry, baby, because we're just getting started. S4 Ep 187Psycho (1960): "Mother is Mothering" ft. Spooky Chicks & Horror Flicks
EOf course we saved the best for last for Mommy Issues May! For our latest theme month's grand finale, there was only one real option for what to cover, and we knew we wanted to do it up right. That's why we invited some new friends to join us for a stay at the Bates Motel as we talk with Spooky Chicks & Horror Flicks about all things Psycho (1960). Arguably *the* most famous Alfred Hitchcock classic, this film literally changed the game for the genre, setting the scene for all kinds of iconic films that followed. It's definitely the blue print — so listen in as we explain the term MacGuffin, debate exactly when things went wrong, and find all sorts of extremely important connections to The Polar Express on a new Spooky Tuesday. S4 Ep 186Rosemary's Baby (1968): "Not ALL Satanic Polycules"
EWould a month-long slate dedicated to horror movie mothers be complete without Rosemary's Baby (1968)? In keeping with the mommies-with-issues aspect of Mommy Issues May, this week's Spooky Tuesday is all about the Mia Farrow flick and the legacy it has left behind. This film has had a massive influence on the genre — and it's also been associated with some seriously haunting true crime tales. Join us on our latest episode as we shout out the CLEAR references, admire Minnie and Roman's wardrobe, contemplate the challenges of parenthood, and go through Sydney's Baby Name List.References:https://swooningoverfictionalmen.wordpress.com/2021/12/18/book-versus-movie-rosemarys-baby/https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2269357/Vidal-Sassoon-I-did-pixie-cut-says-Mia-Farrow-hairdressers-signature-style.htmlhttps://www.city-data.com/forum/movies/2228560-rosemarys-baby-just-figured-out-why.htmlhttps://filmboards.com/t/Rosemary's-Baby/Who-is-Argyron-Stavropoulos%3F-1745886/https://moviechat.org/tt0063522/Rosemarys-Baby/58c729895ec57f0478f1286e/Why-did-she-cut-her-hair-and-the-previous-tenantCursed Films: Season 2, Episode 2 "Rosemary's Baby"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LykoiSend us a text

S4 Ep 185Brahms: The Boy II (2020): "...Is His Government Name"
EWhen we realized we were going to have the chance to record another in-person episode during one of Sydney’s LA visits, we knew we had to choose our movie with care — but we’re not sure Brahms: The Boy II (2020) met us with the same love. Though its predecessor was one of our most hotly-debated episodes way back in Season 1, we knew the sequel would be best enjoyed together, and it seemed like a perfect fit for Mommy Issues May. Unfortunately, it turns out we might be the ones with the issues. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we’re heading back to the Heelshire estate to hang out with Brahms, but whether or not this is the same little boy/doll we once knew is very much up for discussion.Want more Brahms content?
