Originally founded as the Rutgers Alumni Brass Band by alumni Steve Dillon and Jon Korsun with arranger Mark Freeh, the band gave its first concert in April of 1991. Mr. Himes earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Michigan. For five years he was also adjunct lecturer in low brass at the University of Michigan - Flint.Mr Himes continues to be in demand as conductor, composer, lecturer, clinician and euphonium soloist, and has appeared throughout the world. Since 1977, Mr. Himes has been Music Director of The Salvation Army's Central Territory. In this capacity he is also conductor of the Chicago Staff Band, an internationally recognized brass band. With its roots in Industrial Revolution-era England, brass bands are most commonly found in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe. Through the North American Brass Band Association, the popularity of brass bands has been increasing steadily in the United States since the mid-late 20th century.
