#SlamRadio - 492 - Desroi
There are origin stories about musicians as there are grains of sand at the sea – too many, yet seemingly never enough. And just as it is with snowflakes, each grain is unique in shape and texture, and tells a different story. Desroi’s connection to music sometimes seem more like the relationship between a geologist and a grain of sand than the usual musician’s narrative would have us believe. For him, it’s not about the obvious things like harmonics, melodies, and simple arrangement. It’s about structure, the texture of clangor, the rhythm oscillating from each sonic wave and surface. With each track – be it in his studio or in the DJ booth – he time and again dives into the complexity of sound, exploring, experimenting on the possibilities and limits of sonic feasibility. Yet he manages not to drown in the vastness of musical theory. Each time he returns, he brings back a piece of sound to add to his collection. Not to keep it to himself, but to pass it on to the place where electronic music belongs – the dance-floor. Few manage to combine those levels of musical refinement with actual enjoyableness like Desroi does. His body of work as a producer, DJ, live act, and label head speaks volumes for itself – enticing in its apparent simplicity, mesmerizing through its depths at closer look, likable for its sheer genuineness. Just like a grain of sand. #SlamRadio - 491 - DJ Godfather
To celebrate Soma’s electro sub label @avoidantrecords new vinyl release ‘Dark Planet’, we have invited new Avoidant artist, DJ Godfather! Listen here: https://avoidant.fanlink.to/darkplanet With techno originally hailed as The House Sound of Detroit - there’s no denying the motor city has its own definitive genre: Ghetto Tech. A true pioneer of the sound, DJ Godfather, like so many in Detroit was inspired by local radio - WJLB, The Electrifying Mojo and Jeff ‘The Wizard’ Mills - but for Brian Jeffries, aka DJ Godfather, it was scratch DJs, hip hop and DMC battles that kick-started his love for turntablism. Playing house parties and teen clubs as a 15-year-old, DJ Godfather quickly learned how to keep a dancefloor hot - and having actually purchased The Wizards’ turntables from the man Jeff Mills himself, DJ Godfather honed his craft. At 17 he found himself playing downtown bars and gigs in the suburbs, before taking off to warehouse raves and illegal parties, like those at Detroit’s Packard Plant. An intimidating force behind the decks, he’s known to drop 60-to-70 records in a one hour DJ set, with plenty of flair, beat juggling and Detroit hustle in between. With his first solo record coming through the Twilight ‘76 label he set up in 1994, DJ Godfather would go on to establish the Databass imprint - still going strong with 150-plus releases - along with a specialised set of sub-labels including Juke Trax and D.E.T. Only. For more than 25 years now DJ Godfather has been an advocate for ghetto tech at large, consistently drawing the biggest daytime crowd year-for-year at Detroit’s Movement Festival - uniting juke and jit dancers alike - while also exploring a myriad of genres like Miami bass, footwork, electro and more. Hooking up with the likes of Keith Tucker, Andrea Parker and DJs Deeon, Detroit Grand Pubahs and Fat Boy Slim over the years, it was only in 2020 that he saw the release of his 44 track debut solo album, Electro Beats For Freaks. Following that up in 2021 with a 46-track second LP titled This Thing Of Ours, and the 2022 D3T.3L3CTR0 album - DJ Godfather never loses faith in how his music can bring different people and genres together. “To me ghetto tech is a culture; mixing techno, house, electro, and booty records to create one vibe,” he says. “I do ghetto tech records because it’s me. My one music that I’m passionate about. Love.” Tracklist via -Spotify: http://bit.ly/SRonSpotify -Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/Slam_Radio/ -Facebook: bit.ly/SlamRadioGroup Archive on Mixcloud: www.mixcloud.com/slam/ Subscribe to our podcast on -iTunes: apple.co/2RQ1xdh -Amazon Music: amzn.to/2RPYnX3 -Google Podcasts: bit.ly/SRGooglePodcasts -Deezer: bit.ly/SlamRadioDeezer Keep up with SLAM: fanlink.to/Slam Keep up with Soma Records: fanlink.to/SomaRecords For syndication or radio queries: [email protected] & [email protected] Slam Radio is produced at www.glowcast.co.uk

#SlamRadio - 486 - Scalameriya
Scalameriya is a Serbian dj, producer and sound designer known for his flashy mixing skills, eccentric productions and menacing synth design. The combination of leaping into the world of techno at the age of 13 and having an obsessive personality lead to extensive practice-sessions and the development of impressive dexterity in djing. As difficult as growing up in Serbia has been, that experience gave him the necessary focus to dive deep into production and find refuge while creating his distinctive style of techno. Scalameriya, written “Skalamerija” in Serbian, is a word used to describe any unfamiliar-looking device of an unknown or even non-existing purpose, function or origin. This became a concept that is reflected in the structure of his productions and dj-techniques. Often described as hard and aggressive, he claims that his sound is heavy and intimidating, insisting that those are similar, but divergent aesthetics. Scalameriya's individuality and militaristic work-discipline have proven to be prolific as his records can be found in catalogues of some of the most important record-labels. Both as a dj and producer, Nikola demonstrates that he is an unstoppable force, delivering performances and soundtracks that are leaving behind lasting impressions all around the world. #SlamRadio - 483 - Francesco Argentieri
Francesco Argentieri, class '96, is a South Italy based DJ and producer. Since he was a child, his parents noticed his natural attitude to the music's listening and appreciation, developing in the early years of adolescence his love for rock and metal music. Since then, he started studying music, at first with classical guitar to then approach to the electric one. Growing up, developing his own musical taste and getting experienced, even attending his first parties in the clubs, he matured an affinity with techno music, and so he started at first learning the roots of mixing, while still always searching for the most unheard music from all over the globe, making of him an ever-growing DJ, who thanks to his various musical influences, always manages to offer high impact DJ sets on the dancefloor. 2019 marked his debut as a producer, releasing on a VV.AA. for the infamous Dutch label Planet Rhythm, to then release in 2020 his first EP on Insolate's Out Of Place and in 2021 his first LP, "Natural Killer", on Diffuse Reality. At the end of 2021 he made his appearance in the first VV.AA. of the Italian Alone Records. 2022 just started with his contribution to the new installment of “Collective Process” on the infamous Soma Records. This is just the beginning of what sounds like a bright future for this guy. #SlamRadio - 482 - Tham
As we all know, there really is no shortage of artists in the vast field of electronic music, especially in the German capitol of Techno that is Berlin. They come and go with trends and seasons, build their hypes, and eventually vanish into the social medial void our postmodern times have created. However, there are those ones which stand out, which stay stuck in the eyes and ears of the public, which play and produce themselves in the collective memory of our community. Tham is one of those. As resident and face of underground public favourites like SYNOID, Griessmuehle, and Lebendig, in just a few years the young artist has proven that he’s one to stay, to watch and to listen to. Growing up on the dancefloors of Berlin – figuratively speaking – Tham’s artistic vision hails from and is always directed back to that very place which represents the crux of the matter of our entire subculture. His interpretation of Techno, his musical vision, lives on his drive to set people in motion. Pounding bass drums, complex grooves, and aggressive synth lines lashing through the crowd, taking their hypnotic effect. This is what Tham provides. Music ex machina, coming out of nowhere, binding the eyes, ears, and bodies of his audience to the floor, to the very present, sticking to their brains, billowing through their minds for hours, long after they’ve left the club. #SlamRadio - 481 - Projekt Gestalten
Head of the VRAAA label, both Projekt Gestalten and The Princess of Death are the identities of Brazilian producer and DJ, Diego Garcia. A celebrated protagonist on Berlin’s most sexually liberated dancefloor, Pornceptual. Exploring pornography as an artform with the collective for more than five years now, their ringside promotion of events and parties globally has seen Garcia’s divergent agenda encourage and inspire its guests to freely explore their sexuality. It took to a point where a Boiler Room broadcast in partnership with the collective was deemed too explicit for YouTube before finding vindication on PornHub. Adorning their DJ sets in various forms of white wedding dresses and baroque embroidery, Projekt Gestalten’s sexual-kinks, queer desire and bold feminine spirit flaunts a unrivaled promiscuity of tongue-in-cheek tawdry that’s pushing techno music and its artistic, sexual appetites that much further. While The Princess of Death is an introspective project exploring distorting notions of masculinity. A figurehead within Berlin’s queer techno scene, and diamond in the rough of ‘twenty-tens’ Netlabel culture, Diego’s exploratory conquest of melodic, harmonic and hypnotic sounds is starting to spread around. Having found pride of place as an established entity controlling soundtracks at risque nightspots and parties the world over - namely making their way through London, St. Petersburg and New York to Sao Paulo and Paris - Diego Garcia’s emergence from the obscure raves of Berlin and its presiding internet culture now sees the artist, with a burgeoning discography and remix catalogue for the reckoning, as an out and loud center stage presence and trailblazing queer, music identity. #SlamRadio - 473 - Hioll
Hioll has become one of the main influences within the rising cuban Electronic Music scene. Born and raised in La Habana (Havana) and carrying from the beginning, with humility, the flag of Cuban Techno. Established Abstraction in 2017, the first electronic music label ever in Cubaʼs history and which is dedicated to showing the most outstanding talents from the island. But that has subsequently evolved to welcome new international artists and, as such, become a widely supported source of dance-floor cuts. As a producer, Hioll's tracks exist in a powerful climax, which looks simultaneously from the most daring and strange hypnotic Techno to the most bizarre and industrial. He has many successful releases in respected and well known labels, being played and supported by big industry names. This suggests a versatile artist with a strong personality, capable of generating rich and truly unique ideas and, eventually, translating them into a varied context of unprecedented sound experiences. #SlamRadio - 472 - Anna Kost
Often, emerging artists can be hard to find within the post locked-down world. Word of mouth, in particular, seems to be dampened by a search for comfort in the audibly familiar. Ma Čka is a techno producer and DJ from Paris, France. “A new cold breath in Industrial Techno.” A steep, dark, powerful industrial techno with a meticulously calibrated saturation, integrating singular textures, both cold and fiery. This is how the universe of Ma Čka can be depicted both in her productions and in her DJ sets. In 2018 she founded her label « Mekanikal Bloodshed » alongside 93SOVAGE & ØRGIE. #SlamRadio - 464 - Tred
Materialising in the dank, unruly pockets of Australia’s warehouse rave scene, Tred now resides deep in Neukölln, Berlin, where he has sharpened a focus on his own narrative of modern club culture, identity and high powered techno weapons. Cheeky, uncompromising and driven by an unrelenting tempo are common traits of a Tred set. This no bullshit approach has drawn the attention of the provocative Munich based queer collective Bottom Topixxx where he takes up residency. Whether it’s peak time at Säule or a closing set at Tresor, his sets emit restless energy that show little regard for genre definitions, assertively blending any style that he is entertained by. It’s rapid body music with an emotive tinge, all mixed with a flair that celebrates classic rave nostalgia, tribal groove and contemporary dance-floor burners. A similar style emerges when you look into the growing back catalogue of Tred’s studio productions. Having had selected works pressed across imprints such as Lobster Theremin, 1Ø PILLS MATE, E-Missions, and Amniote Editions, what becomes obvious is his ability to capture the energy of many influences. Head-strong in approach, 2021 will see a number of debut’s further his sonic sensibilities. #SlamRadio - 461 - Aida Arko
Aida Arko is an Electronic Music Producer, DJ, Label Owner and Resident at ‘Grelle Forelle’ Austria, one of the most demanding clubs in Europe. She has gained huge international recognition thriving from Vienna with her latest releases, which include a rm x to the iconic track ‘Ghost Stories’ from Rebekah, a powerful debut EP on Suara, plus releases on the mighty Soma, Elements and Meat Recordings. She established her sound signature as a new wave of hard edge driving techno with a seemingly unusual drone attraction, leaning on a dark percussive industrial tribalesque groove that grinds its way through the airiness of experimental soundscapes. Having grown up in Iran in the 1990s, Aida was influenced by the Persian underground scene, as well as the wealth of cultural and musical heritage of her home country. As a former biology student, she left the academy in pursuit of her real passion: Performance and music. Therefore she left the country in search of her teenage dreams, starting off working with a circus in Dubai and from there touring and traveling globally with a number of teams, performers, and infamous circus shows for several years. 2017, after a life changing journey around the globe, she found her base in Austria and turned her years of artistry experience, focusing solely on music. 2018, she started organizing her own events, promoting, djing, and hosting floors at the most respected clubs in Vienna, while at the same time touring and working countless hours in the studio, unfolding her own sound. #SlamRadio - 459 - Monix
Monix, the alias of live musician, producer & DJ, Lance Blaise, has over 25 years in the industry. Monix has amassed a staggering catalog of music and original productions recorded under many different monikers/aliases. Unconcerned with conventional elements of modern techno, Monix's live modular sets embody relentless and pummeling industrial sounds. Focus is spent on developing dense drones and harsh noise walls with distorted vocal elements and heavily distorted kicks which forcefully defy a 4x4 structure. All of his live sets are improvised “off the cuff” with nothing planned out ahead of time. Monix believes this allows every live experience to be an individual creation of sound. A self-confessed ‘tech geek,’ Monix’s productions remain to be composed of all analog gear. His live performances consist of his modular hardware setup, but he is also known for his marathon hybrid DJ sets combining digital controllerism paired with analog gear. It is fairly well known that Monix is legally blind, but he has still managed to adapt his live sets, productions & DJ techniques to overcome this battle. He also is very active in providing support and advocacy for other visually impaired artists, and he has assisted in developing software and hardware to make this journey easier for new and veteran visually impaired musicians and DJs. #SlamRadio - 458 - Paolo Ferrara
Based in Barcelona, this Italian artist has largely demonstrated his unique musical style: a mix of mental, disturbing melodies and powerful Techno. The name PØLI comes from the polygon, a geometric figure with multiple sides that represents the eclecticism of his music. He has a Techno stamp, but he is not a purist and his sets always carry different influences coming from House, Detroit, Dance, Dub, Trance and 80’s music. PØLI is well known for his strong closings, always ending with a great energy. Since his first performance and success at HEX, he has also performed at some of the best clubs and festivals in Barcelona and Europe, such as DGTL, Brunch-In the Park, Input, Razzmatazz, Amnesia, Nitsa, Moog, Laut, and many more. He has played alongside great international DJ’s like Ben Klock, Oscar Mulero, Jeff Mills, Ellen Allien, Marcel Dettmann, Len Faki, Chris Liebing, Ben Sims, DVS1, I Hate Models, Dax J, Rebekah, Paula Temple, Blawan, just to name a few. In 2014 he founded the Techno movement HEX with his partner Lorenzo, quickly becoming a referent in Spain and now planning its expansion all around Europe. In 2015, PØLI was awarded the Best DJ Revelation prize by Barnabeats in Barcelona. 2019 was the year where Lorenzo and him launched their record label: HEX Recordings, through a first release on vinyl, composed by 4 originals from them and various remixes coming from a very talented roster of international Techno artists including Regal, Zanias, VSK, Insolate and many more. #SlamRadio - 457 - Dimi Angelis
To say that Dimi Angélis has been around, is to state the obvious. When during the late nineties techno first got hold in The Netherlands, Dimi was there to help shape the culture that would see it flourish. Promoting raves and warehouse parties in Amsterdam and putting his first needle on a record back when ‘underground’ actually meant something, he has since built a career that spans two decades. His craftsmanship is based on emotion, honesty and the from belief that music has the power to move and educate. Over time his path has taken him everywhere from Berghain and Awakenings to Under Club and Dekmantel. Besides playing records, Dimi is an avid producer. After teaming up with Jeroen Search in 2004, the first half of his twenty-odd active years saw him release a string of sought-after EP’s and LP’s on Mission (6277/Axis), Stockholm LTD and their co-owned A&S label. Now, as the beginning of a third decade draws closer, Dimi’s been equally successful in putting out solo music on Mord, Warm Up Recordings, Axis Records, KEY Vinyl, Construct Re- Form, Krill Music, Falling Ethics and his own ANGLS imprint. Much like Dimi's ANGLS is a platform for open and straightforward techno, helping to shape the genre for another two decades to come. Elad Magdasi has long been entrenched in the rave scene, first and foremost, as a dancer. It is precisely this edge which can be felt in the emotional fabric he weaves into his productions. After moving from Tel Aviv to Berlin in 2013, Elad evolved and ended up founding his own label - Front Left Records. The label is a collective of friends who dance together and celebrate techno weekly. All the releases come from artists who share the front left corner of the dance floor. #SlamRadio - 447 - JakoJako
It started with an urge to play with sound, a DIY synth, and a desire to know more. After several years buried in books, manuals and patch cables, JakoJako was performing her first live sets around Berlin, and spending every spare penny on Eurorack modules. The passion became all consuming, and in 2017, she left her nursing career to work at the legendary Berlin synth shop Schneidersladen, where’s she’s been sharing her knowledge of tools and techniques with the city’s music makers ever since. Technique is no use without ideas to apply it to, and fortunately JakoJako has a natural supply. “When you hear a sound in the environment, say a car passing by, you don’t appreciate the complexity until you think how you might synthesise it.” She explains. “Then it becomes something abstract; a collection of modulated pitches and timbres. I love to listen to the world like this..” Her approach may seem studious, but JakoJako uses this fluency in the language of sound to convey emotion, and each track is an experiment, with success based on the intensity of feeling it creates. Her debut EP “Aequilibration”, released in 2019 on Leisure System Records, showcased this explorative mindset, with four very different stylistic ideas tied together through emotive sound design, sharp production, and a strong sense of melody. The release was followed by a string of live gigs, performed with her modular system and Elektron boxes, including a release party at Berghain, playing a standout set alongside Ben UFO and Marie Davidson. With regular events disappearing in 2020, live music migrated online, finding a global audience in shared experience of isolation. After streaming a live set for HÖR Radio, she was invited to take part in an online event for Arté, hosted by Innervisions and United We Stream, alongside Amé and Frank Wiedermann. This led to a filmed live performance in her studio for Fact Magazine’s Patch Notes series, and an in-depth video feature for Electronic Beats, which together have over half a million views (and counting). Offline, JakoJako has made good use of the time in her studio, producing tracks on compilations for B-Pitch Control and Figure Records, remixes for Crouds on Intumi, and most recently, for New Order on Mute Records. More solo work is in the pipeline too, including a new EP for Leisure System Records, due in mid 2021. #SlamRadio - 446 - ASTRYD
ASTRYD was born from the energy of driving a room to dance. The two brothers are co-founders and residents of Bristol’s Dialogue - parties which over the past four years have hosted the likes of Giant Swan, Machine Woman, object blue, Akua, Russell E. L. Butler, Loraine James and SPFDJ. These nights have carved out a niche in the Bristol scene, creating an ethos of queer-friendly spaces and diverse, forward thinking line-ups. ASTRYD's first single, Lapse, was described by RA as ‘a slice of tense, brooding, broken techno’. Forthcoming EP Blind Summit is full of suspense and brimming with the energy of a dance floor in motion. With this EP, their expansive and visceral live sets have crystallised into four distinct tracks, unified by throbbing synths, thundering drums and wrapped in layers of grit. #SlamRadio - 444 - Balrog
Balrog is a producer and DJ from Leeds (UK), who has supplanted himself in the darker and grittier side of industrial techno with a focus on heavy groove-ridden drums, driving bass, and distorted vocals. His tracks and DJ mixes look back to the classic hard and grooving techno of the early 2000's, but with a fresh injection of modern industrial power. Balrog has gone from strength to strength over the last few years playing at events such as Jaded and releasing on labels including Moments In Time, The Meaning of Rave, COUP, Green Fetish, Taro, and Gobsmacked. These releases and many unreleased tracks have received support from some of the biggest in the scene including Amelie Lens, Dax J, Rebekah, Paula Temple, Manni Dee, Tham, and many more. 2021 is set to be a huge year for Balrog with forthcoming releases on Soma, Green Fetish, Etruria, and Instruments of Discipline. Balrog also runs his own record label, Khazad Records, which releases music from the very best industrial and hard techno talent around.
