Netflix has pulled the plug on a live-action adaptation of Capcom’s iconic video game franchise, Resident Evil. The series was released a year after the much-criticized film by Sony titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City, but was unfortunately panned by fans and critics alike. Netflix decided to cancel the series just six weeks after it premiered on the streaming service. The games on the other hand have found a new lease of life, thanks to the recent remakes of franchise classics such as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, as well as new games such as Resident Evil Village and the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 4.

Thomas Haden Church cast in Kevin Costner's western Horizon Spider-Man star Thomas Haden Church has been added to the cast of Kevin Costner’s upcoming western titled, Horizon. The Academy Award-nominated actor will join an ensemble that includes Costner himself, along with Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, and Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower. The film is a drama that focuses on the various issues that arose as a result of settlers taking over the lands of the indegenous community in America. Anne Hathaway to Star in The Idea of You Director Michael Showalter is set to helm a film adaptation of The Idea of You, a novel by Robinne Lee. The film will be a Prime Video original with Academy Award-winner Anne Hathaway set to essay the lead role. The plot revolves around a recently divorced mother named Solène Marchand, who falls in love with Hayes Campbell, a member of a band named August Moon, whose performance she had gone to watch with her daughter. The production for the film is expected to commence this October. Angela Bassett, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan join Wildwood The upcoming animated film Wildwood has announced a star-studded ensemble. Laika, the animation studio that produced Kubo and the Two Strings and Coraline will be helming the project. The studio announced that Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Jacob Tremblay, and others have been added to the cast. It is based on the children’s fantasy book series of the same name written by Colin Meloy and illustrated by Carson Ellis. The story follows two children who discover a magical forest while embarking on a mission to save a baby who was taken away by crows. 'Godzilla vs. Kong' sequel in the works Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have announced that the fan-favourite Monsterverse is gearing up for its next major release. The new film will be a sequel to the 2021 Godzilla vs. Kong. The new instalment in the franchise will feature a new threat that will face-off against King Kong and Godzilla. Game of Thrones fans are already gushing over the latest prequel of the series House of the Dragon which dropped its first episode on 21st August 2022. Given the hype surrounding the show and the superlative following of the franchise, it’s hardly surprising that the excessive traffic crashed the HBO max servers in the US on the day the show premiered. Fans took to Twitter to complain about not being able to stream the show due to “technical difficulties” as pointed out by the popular streamer.

Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker is set to star in the upcoming film Mrs Falani. The outspoken actress will play nine different roles in the film which will be a collection of short stories. Manish Kishore and Madhukar Verma will helm the project.

It’s official! Shah Rukh Khan will make a guest appearance in Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha. The news was confirmed by Aamir himself during an interview. The film which is an official remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump, also features Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya, and Mona Singh. Aamir plays the titular character in the film which is slated to hit theatres on Thursday.

Disney+ has announced that the upcoming Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will not be releasing on the usual Wednesday time slot like the other Marvel shows, but instead will release a day later on Thursday with subsequent episodes also following the Thursday time slot.

Netflix sues Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear Streaming giant Netflix is taking legal actions against songwriting duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear over their Grammy-winning The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, which is based on the Netflix series Bridgerton. The move comes after the duo performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC last week. The official complaint stated that Barlow and Bear took valuable intellectual property from the Netflix original series Bridgerton to build an international brand for themselves. Although the streamer initially hailed the concept, it raised objections when the musical expanded into a profitable business for the duo. Star Trek star Nichelle Nichols dies Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Uhura in the 1960s show Star Trek, died of natural causes on Sunday. She was 89. Thirteen Lives (Prime Video) Thirteen Lives is a true story based on the cave rescue operation when a group of young boys part of a football team and their coach were trapped in a cave in Thailand. Directed by Ron Howard, the film stars Colin Farrell, Viggo Mortensen, and Joel Edgerton in lead roles. The film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on the 5th of August. Lightyear The popular character Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story franchise is set to make his standalone streaming debut this week. Fortunes turn in her favour when she joins a pharmaceutical start-up, but is soon sucked into the dark underbelly of the business. The film is written by Wells Tower. Barbie adds Marisa Abela to its cast The highly anticipated film Barbie, helmed by Greta Gerwig, known for critically acclaimed films such as Lady Bird and Little Women has added Marisa Abela to its cast. The film stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead and features a star-studded ensemble including Emma Mackey, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, among others. Tom Wlaschiha joins cast of Hilma biopic Game of Thrones star Tom Wlaschiha, popular for playing the faceless man, and most recently appearing in the fourth season of Stranger Things, has been added to the cast of Hilma. The film will chronicle the life of Swedish feminist artist Hilma af Klint, and also stars Jazzy de Lisser, another Game of Thrones alum. Haseen Dillruba sequel in development A sequel to the hit Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey film Haseen Dillruba is in the works.
