Join The Stronger Collective App: 7 Day Free Trial In this episode of the Move Your Body Differently podcast, Shaela Daugherty tackles a question she often receives from her audience: Can Christian women use secular fitness programs? Shaela offers a thoughtful perspective on how to approach your health and fitness journey as a Christ follower and provides powerful questions to help you reflect on where your current routine aligns with your faith. This episode is for you if: You’ve ever wondered if it’s okay to follow a secular fitness program while pursuing a Christian lifestyle. You want to understand how to align your fitness journey with your faith and glorify God through your body. You’re looking for clarity on whether your workout routine is pointing you toward Christ or feeding into a self-centered mindset. What You'll Learn: Questions to ask yourself: Shaela shares four key questions to reflect on in your health and fitness journey: Is Christ present in your fitness routine? Is your workout program pointing you to Him or yourself? Difference between faith-based and faith-centered fitness: Learn the important distinction between a faith-based fitness program (which may be led by a believer) and a faith-centered approach (which integrates Christ into every aspect of your fitness). Colossians 3:23-24: Shaela unpacks this key scripture to help you evaluate whether your fitness routine is serving yourself or serving Christ. Spiritual growth through fitness: Discover how a faith-centered fitness program can lead to physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental growth, aligning your wellness with your values and beliefs. Key Takeaways: Is your fitness journey centered on you or Christ?: Shaela encourages you to evaluate if your fitness program is glorifying God and pointing you toward spiritual growth or if it’s more focused on aesthetics and self. Faith-centered vs. faith-based fitness: While faith-based fitness might involve a Christian coach, Shaela explains how faith-centered fitness permeates every aspect of your journey—from workouts to nutrition—rooted in biblical principles and spiritual growth. Fitness as ministry: Shaela talks about how taking care of your body can be an act of service, equipping you to fulfill God’s calling in your life, whether it’s ministry in your home, community, or career. Spiritual growth as a measurable outcome: In faith-centered fitness, physical improvements are important, but spiritual growth is prioritized as a foundation for long-lasting health and transformation. How to evaluate secular fitness programs: If you’re currently using a secular fitness program, Shaela offers ways to integrate faith into your routine, ensuring it aligns with your biblical values without becoming an idol. 54. Brokenness is Not the End: Restoring Your Health and Faith

Join The Stronger Collective App: 7 Day Free Trial Follow on Instagram: @sdfitwell Website: www.shaeladaugherty.com In this episode of the Move Your Body Differently podcast, we explore the powerful message from Nehemiah 1:3 and its profound relevance to our health and fitness journey. We dive into the concept that our bodies are a temple, and just like the broken walls of Jerusalem, our bodies can be rebuilt and restored with God’s help. If you’ve ever felt stuck in your brokenness—whether it's physical, emotional, or spiritual—this episode reminds us that brokenness is not the end of our story. God invites us to rebuild, heal, and find restoration through small, intentional steps toward physical health and spiritual wholeness. What You’ll Learn: Lessons from Nehemiah: Nehemiah’s return to Jerusalem to rebuild its walls serves as a beautiful analogy for our own health journey. Just like the Israelites, we can experience setbacks in our bodies, but those broken walls don’t have to define us. We can rebuild with Christ as our foundation. Brokenness is Not the End: Whether it’s through an injury, chronic illness, postpartum recovery, or even spiritual exhaustion, we all face seasons of brokenness. The key is understanding that these experiences don’t have to stop us; they are opportunities for growth and healing. Your Body is the New Testament Temple: In the Old Testament, the Israelites had a physical place to call home, but as Christians, our home is now in our bodies because the Holy Spirit dwells within us. Rebuilding our bodies through health is a spiritual act of worship. Healing from the Inside Out: Brokenness—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—serves as a reminder of our limited nature, but it also points us to our ultimate healer, Christ. Learn how small, simple steps toward better health can lead to transformation inside and out. Holiness and Wholeness: Pursuing health from a kingdom-minded perspective means that while we strive for physical well-being, the ultimate goal is wholeness in Christ. Discover why the pursuit of health isn’t about perfection but about aligning our bodies with God’s purpose for our lives. Shaela's message of rebuilding from Nehemiah offers a powerful framework for how we can approach our health journey with faith. Whether you’re recovering from a surgery, dealing with chronic illness, or simply trying to live a healthier lifestyle, this episode encourages you to shift your mindset, focus on God’s restoration, and take actionable steps toward health in partnership with the Holy Spirit. Key Takeaways: Brokenness isn’t the end: In the story of Nehemiah, the Israelites faced physical and spiritual brokenness, but they weren’t left there. Likewise, our brokenness—whether it’s physical limitations or emotional wounds—doesn’t define us. We are called to rebuild with God’s help. Our bodies as temples: The Holy Spirit now dwells within us, making our bodies the New Testament temple. This is why pursuing health is not just a physical act but a spiritual one. As we rebuild our health, we are inviting Jesus into every area of our lives. Rebuilding through small steps: Just as the Israelites rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem brick by brick, we can rebuild our physical health through small, simple actions like drinking more water, moving our bodies, and nourishing our spirits. Consistency in these steps leads to restoration. Pursuing wholeness, not perfection: The pursuit of health is not about achieving perfection in our bodies. It’s about striving for wholeness and holiness with Christ. True healing will come in eternity, but here on earth, we can still partner with God to live a healthy, kingdom-minded life. Key Quotes: "Brokenness is not the end of our story. It’s an invitation to rebuild with the help of the Lord." "Just like the Israelites rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, we are called to rebuild the temple of our bodies, knowing that the Holy Spirit dwells within us." "The small, intentional steps we take toward health—whether it’s moving our bodies or nourishing our souls—are part of the restoration God is doing in us." "Pursuing wholeness in our bodies is pursuing holiness with Christ. Our ultimate goal isn’t perfection, but alignment with God’s purpose for our lives." "Healing from the inside out means recognizing that our brokenness points us to Christ, whose body was broken for us so that we could experience true wholeness." Why This Episode Matters: Our health journey is often filled with setbacks, but this episode serves as a reminder that brokenness is not the end. God invites us to rebuild, restore, and pursue health in a way that honors Him. As we partner with the Holy Spirit in taking care of our bodies, we are participating in His work of restoration and becoming kingdom-minded in every area of our lives.

Join The Stronger Collective App: 7 Day Free Trial In today’s episode of Move Your Body Differently, I'm joined again by Brittany Braswell, a registered dietitian, intuitive eating counselor, and host of the Joy-Filled Eater Podcast, to dive deep into the world of core and limiting beliefs and how they can affect your health and fitness journey. We explore what limiting beliefs are, how they can hold you back from reaching your health goals, and how to replace them with truth from the Bible. If you’ve ever found yourself struggling with self-doubt, feeling stuck in diet culture, or wondering why you can’t seem to break free from certain habits, this episode is packed with key insights and practical strategies to help you identify and challenge those limiting beliefs. What You'll Learn: What are limiting beliefs? – Brittany breaks down how limiting beliefs stem from core beliefs and why they keep us stuck in negative patterns around food, fitness, and even body image. Common limiting beliefs in health and fitness – Examples include thoughts like, “Carbs are bad,” or “I need to exercise every day to be healthy.” We discuss how these beliefs sabotage your health and how to address them from a faith-based perspective. Why core beliefs matter – Discover why understanding your core beliefs, especially those rooted in spiritual truth, is essential for sustainable growth in your health and fitness journey. The impact of culture and diet mentality – We talk about how diet culture and societal expectations shape our beliefs about health, body image, and worth and how these limiting beliefs seep into our everyday thinking. How limiting beliefs hold us back – Brittany walks us through a powerful flowchart showing how core beliefs impact our thoughts, feelings, perceived identity, and ultimately our actions. If you’ve been stuck in cycles of yo-yo dieting, emotional eating, or over-exercising, this framework will help you break free. The connection between spiritual health and physical health – Learn why spiritual health must come first and how relying on your own strength or vain goals leads to anxiety and discontent. We also take a practical approach, discussing how to identify limiting beliefs, the role of patience in your journey, and the importance of making small, sustainable changes rather than aiming for instant transformation. Brittany offers tips on how to cultivate a growth mindset over a fixed mindset, helping you understand that your abilities can grow and change with time and God’s guidance.   Why You Need to Tune In: This episode is for anyone who struggles with limiting thoughts like: “I’m never going to be happy with my body.” “I can’t enjoy carbs and still be healthy.” “I have to exercise every day, or I’ll lose progress.” “I’ll always be stuck in this cycle of dieting.” “I’m just not capable of living a healthy life.” You’ll learn to challenge these beliefs by digging into your identity in Christ, how to take faith-based action steps, and how to grow through the discomfort of uncovering limiting beliefs. We also explore how diet culture has infiltrated not only secular spaces but the church, making it more critical than ever to ground your beliefs in biblical truth. If you’re ready to stop letting false beliefs dictate your health choices, if you want to find freedom in how you see your body, and if you’re looking for a way to align your fitness journey with your faith, then this episode is a must-listen. Key Takeaways: Understand how to identify core limiting beliefs that are holding you back in your health and fitness journey. 42. 5 Proven Strategies to Help You See Results By Celebrating Little Wins & Journaling - Holy Health Habits pt. 11

In the final episode of our Holy Health Habits series, we explore the importance of journaling and gratitude as spiritual disciplines. These practices aren’t just about spiritual growth—they can also be transformative tools for your health and fitness journey. We’ll talk about how journaling helps you reflect, track progress, and build a growth mindset, while celebrating the small wins helps sustain your motivation and gratitude in both life and health. Here’s what you’ll hear: The role of journaling in your spiritual and physical health, and how it mirrors tracking progress in fitness. Why celebration and gratitude are essential to maintaining joy, even when life gets hard. Practical ways to break down goals into manageable pieces and celebrate small wins to stay consistent. How to reframe obstacles and use them as learning opportunities for growth in your health journey. This episode will help you connect the dots between spiritual disciplines and the practices that drive long-term fitness success. If you’re ready to adopt a sustainable, Christ-centered approach to health, this episode is for you. Habits to build the skill of a growth mindset & reflecting:  Think on a continuum Consider a choice you have to make often, write out or draw your continuum of options It doesn’t have to be all or nothing, you can move up or down the continuum or dials Reframe obstacles Failure is only feedback Get curious – flip problems into questions “I can’t meal prep. . . “ But if I can’t set aside the time to do this, what am I able to do? What would be helpful and help eliminate stress? Building the habit of celebrating wins:  Turn goals into small, bite-sized pieces Write out your goal, then break it down into various ways to achieve that goal Realize you can’t do ALL of those at once – choose 1-2 actions from that goal to practice until you are doing them 80% of the time Reflect weekly and write down wins My clients really have a hard time doing this – they look back and they see ALL THE BAD and let that cloud the good – that goes back to journaling – if we are writing in our journals each day with the Lord that will naturally progress into naming small wins  Track progress through a variety of means Consistently track your progress, through your dials, how your body feels, less stress, evaluating your deep health markers, etc.   Links mentioned in the podcast:  Join The Stronger Collective App: 7 Day Free Trial Learning How to Reframe Thoughts - Episode 36 with Jenn Louise

17. How to Get Unstuck in 9 Steps: Shifting Your Focus from Outcomes to Identity in Your Fitness Journey

Fitness, Faith & Fuel Challenge: https://www.shaeladaugherty.com/5-day-faith-fitness-devo   Welcome back to the Move Your Body Differently podcast! I’m your host, Shaela Daugherty, and today’s episode is all about breaking free from the frustrating feeling of being stuck in your health and fitness journey. We’ve all been there—doing everything we think we should be doing, yet not seeing the results we want. But what if the problem isn’t with your efforts, but with your goals? In this episode, we cover: The Trap of Outcome-Based Goals: We dive into the common pitfall of focusing too much on outcome-based goals, like losing 15 pounds or hitting a specific strength target. While these goals are valid, they can often lead to frustration when we don’t see immediate results. I explain why these goals might be holding you back and how to shift your focus to something more sustainable. Understanding Behavior-Based Goals: I break down the difference between outcome-based goals and behavior-based goals, emphasizing the importance of daily actions and habits that are within your control. By focusing on what you can control—like meal planning, regular workouts, and hydration—you set yourself up for long-term success. The Biblical Perspective: Drawing inspiration from the Bible, we explore how God guides us through the journey, not just the destination. Using examples from Exodus, I highlight the importance of knowing God in the present moment and how this applies to your health and fitness journey. Shifting Your Mindset for Long-Term Success: I encourage you to think about who you want to be in 10 years, not just what you want to achieve in the short term. By focusing on your identity in Christ and the long-term habits that will help you fulfill your God-given purpose, you can break free from feeling stuck and start enjoying the journey. Practical Tips to Get Unstuck: I offer practical advice on how to set behavior-based goals that align with your identity and purpose. Whether it’s setting small, daily habits or reflecting on past experiences to guide your future actions, these tips are designed to help you move forward with confidence. Reflect on Your Long-Term Identity: Think 10 Years Ahead: Visualize who you want to be in 10 years in terms of your health, fitness, and overall well-being. Consider your calling, your purpose, and how your identity in Christ shapes the person you want to become. Ask Yourself: What kind of healthy and whole person do you want to be? What activities, habits, and lifestyle choices will define that person? 2. Identify the Habits of Your Future Self: Work Backwards: Consider the habits and actions that the future version of yourself would consistently practice. List Out Habits: Write down the daily, weekly, or monthly habits that align with the identity you envision. Examples might include regular exercise, balanced nutrition, consistent sleep, spiritual disciplines, etc. 3. Analyze Your Current Habits: Reflect on the Last 10 Years: Look back over the past decade and identify the habits that have served you well and those that have not. Identify Gaps: Compare your current habits with the habits of your envisioned future self. Identify the gaps or areas where changes are needed. 4. Set Behavior-Based Goals: Focus on What You Can Control: Shift your focus from outcome-based goals (e.g., losing 15 pounds) to behavior-based goals (e.g., exercising 4 times a week). Create SMART Goals: Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals that align with the habits of your future self. 5. Break Down Goals into Daily Actions: Create a Routine: Develop a daily or weekly routine that incorporates the behavior-based goals you've set. Example: If your goal is to be more active, schedule specific workout times each week and plan your meals ahead of time. 6. Embrace Small Beginnings: Start Small: Begin with small, manageable steps that you can consistently maintain. Remember Zachariah 4:10: “The Lord does not despise small beginnings.” Be Patient: Understand that meaningful change takes time, and it’s okay to grow slowly as long as you’re consistent. 7. Regularly Reevaluate and Adjust: Review Your Progress: Periodically check in on your progress. Are you sticking to the habits that align with your long-term vision? Adjust as Needed: Be flexible and willing to adjust your habits or goals based on what’s working or what isn’t. It’s okay to tweak your plan as you go. 8. Surrender the Outcome to God: Let Go of Control: Trust that God is guiding your journey. While you control your daily actions

Free 15 Minute Health Plan Call: https://www.shaeladaugherty.com/healthplancall Welcome back to Move Your Body Differently! I’m your host, Shaela Daugherty, and today’s episode is a bit different. We’re diving into the intersection of faith and fitness, exploring how your theology of God can profoundly impact your wellness journey. In today’s episode, I want to help you cut through the noise of conflicting health advice and refocus on what truly matters: aligning your fitness journey with your faith. Whether you're on a run, driving in your car, or gearing up for a workout, I hope this episode inspires, encourages, and motivates you to keep pushing forward with purpose. In this episode, we cover: The Noise of Conflicting Advice: We start by addressing the overwhelming amount of conflicting information out there. From Christian dietitians who warn against tracking calories to those who insist it's necessary, it’s easy to feel lost. Let’s cancel out the noise and focus on the truth that aligns with our faith and purpose. Biblical Foundations for Training: I read key scriptures that ground our understanding of why we train, including 1 Timothy 4:8, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Proverbs 31:17, and John 10:10. These verses remind us that while physical training has its benefits, our highest purpose is to know God and make Him known. Why We Train: We dive deep into the reasons we train as Christians—whether it’s to worship God with our bodies, prepare ourselves for His calling, or discipline our minds and bodies to stay focused on the tasks He’s given us. This isn’t about idolizing fitness; it’s about using it as a tool to fulfill our God-given purpose. The Balance Between Apathy and Obsession: I discuss the common pitfalls of either obsessing over our bodies or becoming apathetic toward them. Both extremes can distract us from our true purpose. I encourage you to find the balance and train with intention, keeping your motivation in check and aligned with God’s will. Practical Steps for a Purposeful Fitness Journey: I offer practical advice on how to train with purpose, integrate your faith into your wellness routine, and ensure that your fitness goals serve a higher purpose.     Book a Free Coaching Call: If you’re struggling to align your fitness journey with your faith or feel overwhelmed by the conflicting advice out there, I’d love to help. 13. Family Meal Planning: A Step-by-Step Guide to Simplify Your Weekly Routine

Ultimate Protein Guide: https://www.shaeladaugherty.com/proteinguide Welcome back to Move Your Body Differently! I’m your host, Shaela Daugherty, and today we’re diving into one of the most requested topics: meal planning. Whether you’re a busy mom, juggling work and family, or simply looking to streamline your weekly routine, this episode is packed with practical tips and strategies to make meal planning work for you. In this episode, we cover: Meal Planning vs. Meal Prepping: Understanding the difference between meal planning and meal prepping. Meal planning involves writing down what you’ll be eating for the week or month, while meal prepping is the actual preparation of those meals ahead of time. We’ll focus on planning, which sets the foundation for successful meal execution. Analyzing What Works and What Doesn’t: I share the importance of being self-aware and evaluating your meal planning process. Learn how to turn challenges into learning opportunities by analyzing what worked and what didn’t each week. This mindset shift is key to developing a sustainable meal planning strategy. My Monthly Meal Planning Method: I break down my step-by-step process for planning a month’s worth of meals in advance. This approach has evolved over the years and now takes me just 30 minutes a month. I’ll show you how I categorize meals by cooking methods—pressure cooker, slow cooker, oven/grill, and stovetop—and use this system to simplify grocery shopping and meal prep. Creating a Rotating Meal Plan: Discover how I build a rotating list of breakfast and lunch options that require minimal planning and how I keep track of dinner recipes using a Word document. This system saves time, reduces mental energy, and ensures variety in our meals. The Importance of Adaptability: Meal planning isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. I explain how I adapt my plan based on what works for my family, making changes as needed without having to reinvent the wheel every month. Encouraging Long-Term Success: I discuss why it’s important to take ownership of your meal planning process. By choosing meals your family enjoys and creating a system that works for you, you’re more likely to stick with it and make it a lasting habit.   I mentioned several different links throughout this episode, here are a few of them: Penny Pinchers Low Carb Recipe Book (i am not affiliated with them, I just enjoy their recipes): https://shop.passionatepennypincher.com/collections/digital/products/low-calorie-menu-plans-pdf-download Shipt: https://www.shipt.com/shop/stores Join my fitness appThe Stronger Collective: 7 Day Free Trial   Chat with ya'll soon!

12. Unpacking Functional Medicine with Lacy Lain: A Holistic & Optimal Approach to Wellness

Discover Your Custom Faith Based Fitness Plan: https://www.shaeladaugherty.com/faithworkoutquiz Welcome back, Fit Fam, to Move Your Body Differently! I’m your host, Shaela Daugherty, and today I’m excited to dive into the world of functional medicine with my dear friend, Lacy Lain. Lacy is a functional medicine health and nutrition coach, a mom of three, and someone who’s passionate about helping women achieve optimal wellness. In today’s episode, we’re breaking down what functional medicine is, how it differs from traditional healthcare, and how it can transform your health journey. In this episode, we cover: What is Functional Medicine?Lacy explains that functional medicine is a systems-based biology approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of health issues. Unlike traditional Western medicine, which often focuses on treating symptoms with medication, functional medicine looks at the body as a whole—considering physical, mental, and emotional health—to achieve optimal wellness. Western Medicine vs. Functional Medicine:We discuss the key differences between Western medicine and functional medicine. Lacy highlights how functional medicine uses low-risk interventions, such as nutrition, movement, and stress management, to modify cellular and molecular systems before considering medication. This approach emphasizes holistic healing and long-term wellness. Understanding the Terminology:With so many terms like holistic, integrative, and functional medicine being thrown around, Lacy helps clarify the differences. She explains that while all these practices fall under the umbrella of alternative medicine, integrative medicine combines traditional and natural approaches, while holistic and functional medicine focus on treating the whole body, not just specific symptoms. The Functional Medicine Process:Lacy walks us through her process when working with clients. She emphasizes the importance of starting with small, sustainable changes and incorporating psychological work before diving into blood work and physical changes. Lacy shares how this approach not only helps identify root causes but also empowers clients to take control of their health journey. Building a Support Team:We talk about the importance of having a care team, which includes not just a functional medicine coach but also a primary care physician, chiropractor, dietitian, and personal trainer. Lacy explains how these professionals can work together to support optimal wellness and why having a team is crucial for long-term health. The Role of Discipline and Habit-Building:Lacy shares how building small, consistent habits can lead to lasting change in your health journey. She emphasizes that the key to success is taking one step at a time, focusing on sustainability rather than quick fixes, and maintaining discipline even when life gets busy.   Get involved with her here: Instagram & Pinterest @lacylain  | website: lacylain.com | free membership: lacylain.com/freemembership If you don't already follow @sdfitwell, go ahead and tap follow there and let's be in this journey for optimal wellness together!

9. Slaying Shame & Increasing Your Physical and Mental Capacity: a Faith-Fueled Journey

Free 5 Day Fitness, Faith & Fuel Challenge: https://www.shaeladaugherty.com/5-day-faith-fitness-devo In today’s episode is one that’s deeply personal and essential for every woman walking a health and fitness journey. We’re talking about slaying shame and increasing our physical and mental capacity. If you’ve ever felt not enough, wrestled with fear, or let shame hold you back, this episode is for you. In this episode, we explore: The Power of Isaiah 61:7:We dive into the beautiful truth that instead of shame, we can receive a double portion and everlasting joy. This verse reminds us that we don’t have to live in dishonor or fear—we can rejoice in the lot the Lord has given us. How Shame Manifests in Our Lives:I share a personal story of how a simple text message from a friend triggered feelings of shame and inadequacy. Instead of seeing it as a blessing, I initially saw it as a reminder of all the ways I wasn’t enough. But through prayer and scripture, I was reminded that Christ slays our shame and replaces it with joy. The Role of Fitness in Overcoming Shame:Fitness isn’t just about physical transformation; it’s a powerful platform for spiritual growth. I talk about how strength training helped me push past my comfort zones, both physically and mentally, and how it gave me the confidence to step into who God has called me to be. Increasing Capacity through Christ:For months, I prayed that the Lord would increase my capacity, knowing that 2023 would be a busy season. Through this process, I’ve learned that while I may be stretched thin, it’s not a sign of failure. Instead, it’s an opportunity for sanctification—growing in Christ and becoming more like Him. Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone:Whether you’re dealing with feelings of inadequacy, fear of failure, or the weight of expectations, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. Fitness is a tool that can help you build the mental and emotional toughness needed to pursue the life God has called you to live. Key Scriptures Discussed: Isaiah 61:7 – "Instead of your shame, there shall be a double portion. Instead of dishonor, they shall rejoice in their lot..." Romans 5:4-6 – "And endurance produces character, and character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame..." Final Takeaway: You are not defined by your shame or the fear of not being enough. You are called to step into the woman God has made you to be, and through faith, fitness, and mental toughness, you can do just that. Fitness isn’t just about building physical strength; it’s about building the mental and spiritual resilience to face whatever comes your way.
