This February, the Cambridgeshire-based Fen Tigers goalball club will host the first qualifying round of the 2025 European Club Goalball Champions League competition. Stephen Clegg is a multi medal winning Paralympic swimmer and spoke to RNIB Connect Radio’s Allan Russell about the benefits that come from participating in sport and physical activity.You might be surprised to find out that it’s not just all about physical fitness and competition!#RNIBConnectImage shows Stephen. Fantastic news now for Paralympics GB Gold medal winning Tandem cyclist Sophie Unwin as Sophie has just been shortlisted for The Sunday Times Citi Disability Sportswoman of the Year 2024 award. Sophie and her Pilot Jenny Holl had a very successful Paris 2024 Paralympic Games winning Gold in the road race, Gold in the 3000m Individual pursuit, Silver in the Road Time Trial and a Bronze in the 1000m time trial. RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey recently caught up with Sophie to find out more about how Sophie felt being shortlisted for this amazing award which celebrates the achievements of a number of Paralympic athletes who like Sophie won many medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Before chatting about being shortlisted for The Sunday Times Citi Disability Sportswoman of the Year 2024 award Toby asked Sophie to take us back to the very successful games in Paris for Paralympics GB, all the visually impaired athletes and of course Sophie and Jenny’s great wins and achievements in Paris too. Sophie also talked about her Paralympic cycling career which really only started in 2021 and how much she is looking forward to the award ceremony in January 2025 and what a great opportunity the awards will be to celebrate all the women in sport from grass roots level right up to Olympic and Paralympic medalists like herself and Jenny. In the last day of competitions in the swimming pool on Saturday evening (7 September 2024) of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Stephen Clegg wins another Gold for Paralympics GB in the S12 Men’s 100 Metres Butterfly. RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey caught up with Stephen just after the final of the Men’s S12 100 Metres Butterfly to find out how the race had gone for him with a very close finish. Stephen also reflects on his Gold and World Record earlier in the games in the S12 Men’s 100 Metres Back Stroke and how swimming and sport have helped him through some difficult times and how the success of the whole of the Paralympics GB swimming team will help to encourage visually impaired young people into sport whether that might be swimming or other sports. Rob Davies, from Wales, will be taking home a silver medal from the Paris Paralympics. He spoke to Allan Russell before taking a well deserved break. Rob with his silver medal around his neck sits in his wheelchair, whilst Allan holds up a microphone, sitting to his right. Rob has short dark hair and a bit of a stubble.

After scooping 4 medals on the tandem, Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl spoke to Allan Russell about their incredibly successful Paralympic Games in Paris. We’re here at Paralympics GB House where we’re joined by swimmers Poppy Maskill and Will Ellard, teen swimmers that made a splash in the pool.
