Now I know many of you out there are immediately going to say “Oh my f*****g god, I hate call centers,” or maybe “people who work at call centers are so stupid.” Well I’m here to tell you, before you “go off” on that call center person that you think is in another country or maybe isn’t as quick as you’d like them to be, there are a few things I’d like to get straight with you.1) Call center employees are very aware of how long someone has been on hold – so your constant reminder that you’ve been on hold for a microsecond doesn’t make anyone want to help you any faster, and by the way, the reason you’ve been on hold isn’t because there aren’t enough people answering the phone, it’s because people – just like you – have called in for something and they’re not prepared for the call, or they just want to yell about something to someone, or they have some unreasonable demand and they won’t hang up until they get their sacrificial chicken, three souls for Satan, and a promise of something free. F**k you. Call center personnel are not your personal punching bags – so just f*****g stop it. They know you’ve been holding, and truthfully, want to get you off the phone as quickly as you want to be off the phone. So stop wasting time whining about how long you’ve been on hold. They know. There’s absolutely nothing they can do about it, and crying about something they have no control over only makes them feel like s**t and makes you even angrier. So just stop it.

On Today’s episode of The World In My Eyes I have a bit of a bone to pick and since this is my show, I’m going to pick that bone right here and right now. Normally I end my show with a quote or fun little musing, but I’ve decided that today’s show is all going to center around one comment and it goes a little something like this: Your false sense of entitlement is filling me with righteous indignation. That’s right boys and girls; we’re talking about some people’s over-inflated and ridiculous sense of entitlement. Now I have never been one of those people who choose to define myself by their generation, but lately as I spend time observing and interacting with some of these entitled nit wits, I realize how profoundly different my perspective of what I believe this world owes me compares to some of the people I’m forced to surround myself with.Even when I was in my twenties, I never once believe that this world owed me anything. I believed that it was up to me to put in the work and earn my place on this revolving blue ball and to prove I deserved my spot here. But lately, I’ve seen so many people – and not just of the younger generation mind you – that express such a sense of over bloated and undeserving sense of entitlement. People who believe that someone somewhere owes them something and they shouldn’t have to work for any of it. They, simply put, expect everything for nothing. This thought process has plagued me for weeks and I’ve spent countless hours just wondering where this ideology even began. Where did these people acquire this sense of entitlement? How is it they feel so exempt from basic human nature that they have the audacity to expect a resounding sense of accomplishment without putting in any effort? We’ve become a society of people willing to rest on the laurels of others and take credit for the blood, sweat and tears of our peers rather to strike out for any accomplishment of our own. We live in a pampered dog world – not the dog eat dog world of our forefathers and mothers.

That’s right boys and girls… today I’m going to share with you all the wonder and excitement of one of my favorite holidays, well one of my favorite food holidays! Most of us – well us Americans – grew up learning all about the First Thanksgiving and most of us remember the story and God-awful plays we were forced to endure – both as children and now as adults – that tells the tale of that fateful winter. Now the basic story goes something like this – and I am paraphrasing, but the Pilgrims came over on the Mayflower and the Indians who were already in this country took a shine to the group and taught them how to cultivate the land and more importantly, how to grow food, and because of this gesture of kindness, the Pilgrims decided to have a feast and invite the Indians. And this is what every American school-child learns as how Thanksgiving came about. A sweet story about different people coming together in tolerance and friendship to celebrate the fall harvest… too bad it’s all bulls**t.Most stories of Thanksgiving start with the harvest celebration of the pilgrims and the Native Americans that took place in the autumn of 1621, and although they did have a three-day feast in celebration of a good harvest, and the local natives did participate, this “first thanksgiving” was simply a gathering. In fact, there is little evidence that this feast of thanks led directly to our modern Thanksgiving Day holiday. So let’s talk about the Real History of Thanksgiving and give you the non-kid-friendly version of what really happened. Ah, my dear listeners, I know this will be a little strange for you, mostly because I try to post on Wednesdays. And usually, I try to be on topic, but with the election happening this Tuesday, and not knowing who will win, I decided I would go ahead and record my show early and focus on something a little less, well, depressing. So, on Today’s episode of The World In My Eyes there is one story I want to bring up and then we’ll spend the rest of the episode focusing on something a little more inspirational. And with all the speculation and hoopla being tossed around for this election season, it only seemed fitting that we use today’s show to focus on women. At this moment I have no clue who is winning or has won the Presidential election, I’m only sure of one thing and I believe that the clever buggers over at Merriam-Webster’s Twitter page summed it all up all too perfectly. If you didn’t see it, well they updated their Twitter header in honor of the election. And what did they put? Well they decided the most appropriate word possible: Götterdämmerung – for those of you not up to par on your German, it’s translated as “twilight of the Gods” loosely translated from the Norse Ragnorok. And it’s English meaning? Well that’s where the genius of Merriam-Webster comes to light: as they offer the meaning as a collapse (as of a society or regime) marked by catastrophic violence and disorder. And these clever Brainiacs are perfectly on point with their interpretation. We clearly are experiencing Götterdämmerung, and when we wake up tomorrow – we will have the aftermath to clean up after.

We make a guess based on our imagination, past experiences, wishful thinking or what we THINK we know about the person. And it’s really no big deal for us to arbitrarily decide why something happens, why someone does or says something, and so on and so forth. We don’t base our decisions on any observable evidence or even factual knowledge; nope, we just make the decision and believe it… like its fact and worse than that, we never change our minds about our assumptions.So today, I’ve got a little ditty for you… and no, it’s not about Jack and Diane, instead, it’s about yours truly, Naughty Nicole and an experience I had recently. So as many of you know, I’m a single gal living here in Hotlanta, so you can assume that I date. And that’s sort of where my head is today, Retro. See, if you’re anything like me, you get sick and lay in bed looking for something to watch… or more to the point sleep to. And for the past few days I’ve been watching a lot – and I do mean a LOT of old movies. Seriously guys, it’s what happens when the batteries in the remote die and you don’t have any replacements handy. I mean, you can scavenge from other remotes and other devices, but in the bedroom, there’s only the handy toy in the bed-side table and that would be an absolute sacrilege to steal batteries from. I mean, I may be sick enough to not go to work, but I’m never THAT sick!So today I want to talk about a film that doesn’t get enough credit – at least in my book – for changing the views of sex in society. But before we jump into the movie version, we have to look at the original theory for the film – I mean, sure, the film was risky, edgy and a phenomenon, but it had to start somewhere… Right? But, if you’re not a film buff like me, or maybe if you’ve been living in a cave for the past 50 or 60 years, then you may not have ever heard of a little book by the name of The Valley of the Dolls by one feisty, fiery and fierce author Jacqueline Susann. That’s right boys and girls… today I’m going to share with you all the wonder and excitement of one of my favorite holidays! Straddling the line between fall and winter, or life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration… and superstition. Believed to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, where people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts, Halloween is one of the most celebrated and misunderstood holidays. Halloween had its beginnings in an ancient, pre-Christian Celtic festival of the dead. The Celtic peoples, once found all over Europe, divided the year by four major holidays. According to their calendar, the year began on a day corresponding to November 1st on our present calendar and marked the beginning of winter. Since they were farmers and shepherds, it was a time when cattle and sheep had moved to closer pastures and been secured for the winter months. Crops were harvested and stored. The date marked both an ending and a beginning in the eternal cycle. The festival observed at this time was called Samhain . It was the biggest and most significant holiday of the Celtic year. The Celts believed that at the time of Samhain, more so than any other time of the year, the ghosts of the dead were able to mingle with the living, because at Samhain the souls of those who had died during the year traveled into the otherworld. People gathered to sacrifice animals, fruits, and vegetables. They also lit bonfires in honor of the dead, to aid them on their journey, and to keep them away from the living. On that day all manner of beings were abroad: ghosts, fairies, and demons--all part of the dark and dread.
