It’s the reason you check and recheck that deadbolt before going to bed. You’ll be lying there alone in your bed listening and analyzing every noise you hear. Did you just hear something downstairs? Is that the creaking sound of footsteps ascending the stairs towards your bedroom? Did you remember to lock the backdoor? Home invasions are a not an all too common occurrence, but for most people they are a major fear, a fear that Bryan Bertino exploited quite well in 2008’s THE STRANGERS, the story of a young couple who become the victims of a random home invasion while vacationing in their remote summer home. But what makes the film more frightening is that there was a rumor that it was based on real events. You may want to check those locks one more time now. Although the film does bare a resemblance to the highly publicized Tate-Labianca murders of 1969, there is a less well-known murder that has also been discussed in regards to the film.In November of 1980, Glenna “Sue” Sharp was renting a cabin in Keddie, California, an isolated wooded region in the northern part of the state. During the 80s, it was a derelict town where people usually ended up when everything else in their life had gone wrong. It also had a big crime problem for such a small town.

The house emits no light or sound, and upon closer inspection, the doors are found to be tightly boarded up. A small sign out front reads: “Villisca Axe Murder House.”Despite its ominous air, the little white house was once filled with life. His name, Usman Khan, wasn’t released for hours, though he turned out to be a convicted terrorist who’d been released from prison.There's apparently more concern for preventing Islamophobia than for reporting the truth! After the London attack, New York police went on higher alert, aware that there are wannabe terrrorists close at hand. Fred Cristopher Rogers, 81, and Edwina Rogers, 79, had not been answering their phone. Two police officers knocked on the couple’s front door of their home in Montrose. There was no response so they ended up knocking the door down. There was no sign of the couple despite being food on the table.One of the officers noticed a strong odor coming from the fridge. He opened it and saw various cuts of meat, which he believed to be hog meat. The officer was shocked when he suddenly saw two heads in the fridge’s crisper.

Betsy Faria had survived one round of chemo and had just celebrated her birthday only to find out that her cancer was back. Her friend Pamela Hupp had talked her into changing her life insurance so that Hupp was the beneficiary instead of Betsy’s husband and children. Then Betsy’s husband, Russ, despite having a rock solid alibi and never wavering from his story was arrested and on trial. And Pam Hupp has changed her story multiple times and hasn’t provided any alibi, but yet is not on trial for anything and has received funds from life insurance policies to boot. Ok, so I don’t know about you guys, but I smell something seriously rotten in Denmark… and it’s not the cheese… so let’s jump right back in to it where we left off.Detail by detail, Schwartz went through the forensics, timing, and alibi. He even addressed Askey’s earlier theory, that Russ had stabbed his wife in a spontaneous fit of rage and cleaned up in a matter of minutes. This was a murder designed to look like rage, Schwartz said. “There were no irregularities in those stab wounds.” They were methodical, neatly aligned, no wiggle to the blade. Many were likely inflicted after death; they hadn’t bled. As prosecutor, Askey had the final word: “There isn’t any evidence that points anywhere else.” When Schwartz objected, the jury was told to disregard the statement, but many of them must have agreed with it. Gunshots—loud and staccato—cut through the confusion of noises. A smoke alarm shrilled. When police arrived moments later, a 33-year-old man lay dead inside the O’Fallon, Missouri, home. The caller stated the man had climbed into her SUV, held a knife against her throat, and demanded that she take him to a bank to get “Russ’s money.” Terrified for her life, she said, she’d knocked the knife away, ran inside through the garage door, dashed into the master bedroom, and grabbed a .38 Ruger revolver from her nightstand as he came after her like “a madman.”The caller—a 58-year-old woman named Pamela Hupp—was questioned and released, and was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder 7 days later. But before being booked, she asked to use the restroom and stabbed herself in the neck and wrists with a ballpoint pen.
