S1 Ep 23Core Value: MicroChurch

“The work we do together is the work of God’s kingdom.” In our second “Liturgy” episode, Robert talks about our core value of MicroChurch. He explores how practicing the powerful work of the kingdom happens in intentional community as we embody the rhythms of gathering, scattering, focusing on God, each other, and the world at large, actively choosing connection and inviting each other into obedience. S1 Ep 22Liturgy: The Work of the People (Learning the Way of Jesus)

“What you do is who you’re becoming.” Our summer sermon series, “Liturgy: The Work of the People,” is exploring our liturgies–the work of the people of the Kingdom–and throughout the next few months we are diving into the core values that we hold as a community. Our first episode of our new summer series, Liturgy: The Work of the People, Robert talks about our first core value, learning the way of Jesus, and what it looks like when we allow that, above all else, shape our practices, actions and behaviors as a community. Note: Unfortunately, we were experiencing some technical difficulties with the signal and clarity of sound on this episode. We apologize for the feedback throughout! S1 Ep 19A Different Kind of People

"To be a priest is to set your life aside." In the fourth episode of the series "Robes, Candles, Smells and Bells," Robert talks about the purpose of God's people in the world, the expansive mission of God's kingdom, and our holy, peculiar, passionate, particular calling to be priests, unified by one Spirit.Find more from Redemption Hill at redemptionboise.org, and follow us on Instagram @redemptionboise, and Facebook at Redemption Hill Boise. Alright, today we have been in a sermon series about what it means for us to be a royal priesthood in a holy nation and today we're going to dive into the history of basketball who's ready for it. Here we go. Um they're just real quick there. If you look in the 19 sixties, in the N. B. A. There were two players that dominated everybody's imagination. They were the only figures that everybody in the country knew about. Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell wilt Chamberlain, it's probably the greatest pure scorer of all time. He was seven ft one. He had, he had one game, the only game in NBA history where somebody scored 100 points in one game, Kobe Bryant went out to try to do it and he only got to 80 200 is incredibly difficult in 81. Sorry, thank you. Gosh, Getting fact checked real time. Thank you Snopes. Alright, so, Well, chamberlain was just incredible. Um he regularly scored in the 50s and 60s. In fact, in 1961, his scoring average per game Was 50 points. Just to give you some context today. If you average 32 points, you're likely the m. v. p. of the league. He scored 50 points per game that year. But you know who won the league Mvp that year. It was Bill Russell. Bill Russell. He Played for the Boston Celtics. He regularly average about 15 points a game, But he averaged 24 rebounds per game and his team, Even though it was less skilled, it had less star power. He won 11 NBA championships in the 13 years that he was playing basketball. Like just think about that level of excellence and dominance. And when you think about the contrast between the two, Wilt won two titles in a 20 year career. Bill 1 11 and 13 years, what it really came down to is that Bill Russell was the ultimate team player and wilt. Chamberlain played for the name on the back of his jersey instead of the name on the front of his jersey. It was all about stats, it was all about his individual contribution, his endorsements, making money for himself. But what we all know, I think from the history of not just sport but the history of the world is that players can't win on their own. It requires teams to win. Players can contribute, but even in a sport with just five people on the court, If you have the greatest player of all time Playing regularly, 40 minutes a game, The Lakers in 2022, you still can't even get to the playoffs if you don't have a team that's playing with you. And of course I think that this metaphor is what our world needs right now more than ever. You look at our globe and you look at the interconnected ways that we are all affected by something that happens on the other side of the world. And you start to think maybe it's not just about my own individual choices, maybe it's not about who I am or what I'm pursuing. One guy, he goes and just has to have some bat meat in china and millions of people die from Covid. One guy says, I want to invade Ukraine and the entire world is facing grain shortages and oil shortages. All of us are deeply connected with one another and until we recognize that we have responsibility to one another, not just in our families and not just in our community, but in the world. All of us are going to live with the repercussions of the cost of other people's sin on us and God knew that. So he built his people as a relief valve valve. He built the people of Israel and then his people, the kingdom of God as a relief valve. To save us from our individualism, to save us from our nationalism. To save us from thinking about ourselves. He gave them a mission and a reason to exist. This is what it says In. Let's see Genesis chapter 12 I did not get set up. So we're gonna have to go genesis chapter 12 verse one The Lord said to Abram, leave your native country, your relatives and your father's family and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation. I will bless you and I will make you famous and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless. Those who bless you and curse those who curse you with contempt. All the family on earth will be blessed by you. This is such a familiar chapter. But this is the beginning, the start of God setting aside for himself a particular people that would be a part of his redemptive plan for history, his people that he held as his own. When you hear chosen. When you hear that God has set aside for himself, a chosen one or a chosen person, it probably evokes one of two responses. I think The first is we think of the chosen one as someone who's given special privilege that makes them exceptional To

S1 Ep 15Follow the King (Easter)

"God also aches for renewal." For our Easter episode, Robert explores the beautiful, wild reality of resurrection, and how in order to fully understand the glory of new life, we first have to grapple with the truth of death in our world. S1 Ep 14PLAN: God's Purpose is Dangerous (Palm Sunday)

"The week of easter is the spiritual battle played out right in front of us. Either we can fight it or we can pretend like it doesn't exist, but we're going to be on the battlefield either way...but there's hope because God has given us the spirit and he's given us each other and he's given us his presence." In episode 14 of our series PLAN: God's Purpose in a Fractured World, Robert speaks on the spiritual battles we face in our lives, God's dangerous purpose for his people, and where we can find hope.Find more from Redemption Hill at redemptionboise.org, or follow us on Instagram @redemptionboise, and Facebook at Redemption Hill Boise. All right, come on over. We are. It's palm sunday. But you know, I know you guys are excited to hear a sermon about a donkey. You're not getting it. Today. We are going to uh we're gonna finish up Ephesians because we're just so close And we love it. Love a fresh start after Easter. So we're in Ephesians chapter six palms. Okay, well I'm gonna switch the sermon and he wants me to hit palm sunday. Uh No, we're gonna, Yeah, every, every pastor who's honest will tell you the holidays are the hardest things to preach because every instance of christmas and easter, you've hit a million times. So we're gonna jump in Ephesians six if you get your bibles Ephesians six verse 10, A final word paul says, Alright, this is it. He's he's he's hitting the the final stretch here, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power, but on all of God's armor so that you'll be able to stand firm against all the strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so that you'll be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. And then after the battle, you'll be standing firm, stand your ground putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God's righteousness for shoes. Put on the peace that comes from the good news that you'll be fully prepared. In addition to all these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil, put on salvation as your helmet and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion, stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere and pray for me to also ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God's mysterious plan that the good news is for the jews and the gentiles alike. I'm in chains now and still preaching this message as God's ambassador. So pray that I'll keep on speaking boldly for him as I should to bring you up to date. Take a kiss, we'll give you a full report about what I'm doing and how I'm getting along. He's a beloved brother and faithful helper in the Lord's work. I've sent him to you for this very purpose to let you know how we're doing and to encourage you peace. Be with you dear brothers and sisters and May the God the father and the Lord jesus christ. Give you love with faithfulness. May God's grace be eternally upon all those who love our Lord, jesus christ. This is the word of the Lord. Do you guys have those movies that you watch over and over again? It drives me crazy. But I probably watch like I watched basically every baseball movie every spring, you know, to get ready for the season, you gotta get gotta get amped up. Um, and one of those ones that I watch pretty regularly um, is saving private Ryan and it's a, it's just a phenomenal film and obviously won like a million Oscars and all that. But I think for anybody who lives Or who lived in the 20th century, understanding the Second World War is vital to understanding our modern world. It shapes so much of who we are and what we do. Um, D day, the story of Saint Croix Ryan is about D day in the aftermath of Um the Allied forces coming across the English channel and taking the beaches in northern France and then moving towards Berlin over the summer of 44 D. Day was a culmination of six years of war across Europe and around the world. But I don't know if you if you've done the math, but the americans had only been a part of the war for a little over 2.5 years at that point, The war had been raging for six years And the Americans have been part of the war for just 2.5 years. From December 1941 forward, our country was sitting on the sidelines that we were supporting the allies, some with the lend lease act and pretending that the mode of the oceans around us would protect us from the war that was raging across three continents. But pretending that the battle wasn't happening, it didn't change the reality on the ground. If you lived in London you were experiencing nightly bombings at the hands of german fighter pilots France had been lost. Italy was no longer independent Germany was taking over a massive portion of the world and we wanted to pretend tha

S1 Ep 4PLAN: God's Purpose is a Body

In the fourth episode of the series "PLAN: God's Purpose in a Fractured World," Marques talks about the interconnectedness of kingdom of God, how each member of the body is of value, and the necessity of listening to, being in community with, and loving people who are different from us, even (especially) when it's hard.Find more from Redemption Hill at redemptionboise.org, or follow us on Instagram @redemptionboise, and Facebook at Redemption Hill Boise. redemption church, churches near me non denominational, church of redemption, redemption hills church, redemption church near me,non denominational churches in boise idaho,i church redemption, redemption hill boise, redemption hills, hills redemption, redemption hill church denomination, redemption i church, church of the redemption, church redemption, church boise, church near me,church near me now, church near me open now, church near me catholic, church near me Christian, churches near me,churches near me now, best churches near me,contemporary christian churches near me,church services near me,find a church, protestant churches near me,christian churches near me,evangelical church near me,bible based church, protestant church near me,church near me hours, open churches near me,american church near me,cool churches near me,christian church near me,best church near me,good churches near me,church service near me,contemporary church near me,bible churches near me,new churches near me,community church near me,late church services near me,churches near here, baptist church near me,non denominational church near me,contemporary church services near me,church open near me,house churches near me,churches in my area, born again church near me,churches near my location, small churches near me,modern churches near me,churches near me with evening services, bible based church near me,local churches, evangelical churches near me,black churches near me,catholic church near me

S1 Ep 3PLAN: God's Purpose is Beauty

"That is the work that God is doing throughout all time in history, is to fill all things with his presence, his spirit and then have all things come under his rule and reign. That brings the flourishing, the hope for a renewed creation that we're all living and dying for." In the third episode of the series PLAN: God's Purpose for a Fractured World, Robert talks about the beauty of transformed lives and relationships in God's kingdom, temptations, covenants, masterpieces, and mosaics of broken clay.Find more from Redemption Hill at redemptionboise.org, or follow us on Instagram @redemptionboise, and Facebook at Redemption Hill Boise. Alright, we are in our series on Ephesians, looking at God's plan, his purpose in our broken world and the last couple of weeks I think have been really rich diving into this, this special kind of book, I think it's Ephesians a special book because it was written to a group of churches in the first century and it was used for a couple of centuries as like an early cattle carcasses which is um that's what they used to teach people what it was like to fall in the way of jesus. That's the way that's written, is to give some big themes of what it means to be a follower of what it means to belong to God's family. And then the second the second half is what does it look like to live as a part of God's family and live in the way of jesus. So it's just such a practical book but it also has some really big themes that we've been jumping into and the last couple of weeks um I love that the purpose of God is um not just to save some but to save all and the purpose of God is that this big inclusive family that is not just for the jews but for the whole world for all the gentile nations as well, which was a radical thought, especially for jewish believers in the first century and for gentiles who were not a part of the jewish people to hear that they belonged, that they had a place in God's family. So when you hear the word chose and plan and God pre destiny, it's this incredibly um powerful image of God inviting us in even when we don't look like his family and for us when I look back on the first century, particularly Ephesians, um I love it because they were a house church of micro church movement just like ours. They had uh it was, it was written to a church in a city and Ephesus with lots of house churches that were throughout Asia minor in different cities and across Ephesus there's probably 10 to 12 small gatherings that happened in households, they were sent to these house churches, they were you know hand copied down and they didn't have like large meeting spaces where hundreds and thousands could gather, especially to worship jesus because the large gathering places were in places that were meant to be set aside to worship the pagan gods of the romans. And so they would have these multigenerational houses and households mostly by wealthy individuals that would gather in as many people as they could to learn the way of jesus weekend and week out. And that's what we're trying to do as a community. Um we believe that we are an extended family on mission. That's how we see this little community and Redemption Hill as we have our families, whether it's our, our nuclear family, our extended family or our micro church as a tight knit unit that does family together weekend, week out, sharing our lives. And then um as as a group, we meet together, there's about six or seven micro churches right now throughout Redemption Hill, that meat throughout the city and together we gather to celebrate all that God has done and be aligned in his mission and learn more together about how to walk in the way of jesus. We do that on sunday mornings and then we're part of a group called the syndicate, which is a movement of house church and micro churches across our valley. There's almost 27 micro churches that are part of that, that are all worshiping this week, gathering in households, celebrating the Lord's supper and uh teaching each other. What does it look like to live in the way of jesus. Uh and then we're also part of what is the worldwide body of jesus followers, everybody who has put their faith in jesus throughout the world. It's these extended families of of of the people of God on mission and when I look back at Ephesus particularly, I see that we're mimicking what they had created in the first century that lead to the same explosion of spiritual life throughout the roman world. The last couple weeks we talked about some important things um and it culminated at the end of chapter one and this is what I said in verse 23 of chapter one and the church is his body, it is made full and complete by christ who fills all things with himself and that is the work that God is doing throughout all time in history, is to is to fill all things with his presence, his spirit and then have all things come under his rule and reign. That brings the flourishing the, the hope for a renewed creation that we'r

S1 Ep 2PLAN: God's Purpose is Global

"Paul prays that we will be given a heart and mind that can understand and appropriate what christ has already done, what we've already been given. That the lights will go on in our brains, so we can know God and understand the reality of what he's doing and what it means to join him." In the second episode of the series PLAN: God's Purpose for a Fractured World, Bob Hyatt teaches about the definition of God's people in Ephesians, centering around the truth that God's people are diverse, global, and offensively inclusive.Find more from Redemption Hill at redemptionboise.org, or follow us on Instagram @redemptionboise, and Facebook at Redemption Hill Boise. Well, good morning everybody. Uh if I haven't gotten a chance to meet you yet, I'm bob, I'm one of the elders of our community, part of the teaching team last week, Pastor robert, who is away this weekend, took us through the first part of the first chapter of the new Testament Book of Ephesians, which we're going to be spending some time in over the next few weeks and this morning we're going to be finishing up chapter one. So if you have a bible or a bible app or whatever it is that you use find Ephesians chapter one about halfway through the new testament and while you do that, I want to ask a non rhetorical question, I really, I actually want to hear your answers. The question is this, what's the best advice that you ever received? I don't, I don't, we don't need to hear the whole story or even what you did with it? Just Shout it out, you know, buy low sell high. Okay. There's one what's the best advice you ever received? Good. Yes. A job worth doing is worth doing. Well, I bet you heard that when you were a kid. Yeah. Yeah. What else? Oh yes, yes. Yeah. The way that I heard that is happiness is expectations divided by reality. And the only part of that that you can control is that expectations. So yeah, what else? Lower everybody else's? Yes, Yes. I had uh I had to do this teaching thing this week and uh, my friend who was introducing me was like, oh yeah, here's bob and he's got all this great with wisdom and everything and I'm like, dude, lower the bar. Lower. Yes, I'm sorry. Somebody else over here had something. Life isn't fair. Yes. Just recognize that right away. Dr eric let go. Let God we had that on a little magnet I think on our, on our refrigerator when I was growing up. Any other ones? Good advice. What you heard? Just keep showing up. Yeah, that's woody. Allen. Life is 90% just showing up. Yeah. Any others. All right. A little bit different question then, what's the best news that you ever received? Yeah, ha ha ha. He seems nonplussed, but yes. Yes. All right. Best news you ever got paid in full. Nice. What else? Really? There's a distinct you are worthy. That's good. I was going to say there's a distinct lack of good news in the crowd. The cancer is gone. Yes. What else? Snow Day? Does anyone else still have this as an adult? Even if you're working from home, if like the snow starts falling and you look out the way and you think you just have this moment of like, I guess I don't have to work today. I still have that. Snow day is good news. What else? Anything? Alright, well, last question then. And this one is kind of weird. What's, what's the difference between good advice and good news? Good advice is something you've got to do something. Yeah. What else does that capture? Yeah, Yeah. It's up to you. Yeah, it's what is? Yes, maybe it will, maybe it won't. Good news is like, no, it is. Yeah. Can I tell you guys, one of my biggest pet peeves, I mean, can I, am I allowed to be transparent and vulnerable up here. Yeah. I used to love getting fortune cookies with, you know, with the chinese food or with the Panda Express or whatever. And now they just make me angry. And the reason is that over the years somewhere they changed when I was a kid, they really were fortune cookies. Like you'd open it up and it will say you will soon go on an exciting adventure or great riches. Lie ahead. Romance will blossom where least expected, you know, see those were fortunes right now. Uh you know, they told you what was gonna happen and now the cookies no longer tell you the future. They just give you advice. Or worse just tired. Aphorisms like today, it's up to you to create the Peacefulness you long for thanks, cookie, stop wishing start doing. Oh jeez, come on, cookie, give me a break. Or even worse, you are very talented in many ways because listen, I do not need the cookie to compliment me. Right, I want the cookie and I don't want the cookie to give me advice. I don't want it to say nice things to me. I want the cookie to tell me the future. Is that too much to ask. So what does all this have to do with Ephesians? Look at Ephesians chapter one, verses 12 and 13. God's purpose was that. And paul is writing as a, as a jewish person who has come to believe in jesus. He's saying God's purpose was that we jews who were the first to trust in christ wo
