Rob's Soapbox - Enjoy A Poo

E

I realize that people of all ages are constantly opining about the trappings of technology, while, (ironically), usually typing on a keypad and/or staring at a screen. Let’s be real, you’re reading this on such technology. Just because people are hypocrites, it doesn’t mean that they are also wrong. To be clear, I love technology and believe, on a whole, this is an amazing time to be alive vis a vis innovation. More information and access is always a better thing, even when it exposes how stupid and dangerous a society is. The truth is, though, that we can’t, individually fix this rotten cultural cesspool we live in, but we can do some high-quality maintenance on ourselves.    Countless studies show time after time, the dangers of screen time. Did you know there’s even a name for it (of course there is, everything has a title…) it’s called Screen Dependency Disorder, which is a stupid name because it doesn’t create an effective acronym. Obviously, Screen Addiction Disorder would have been perfect, but SAD was already taken by the totally fake and made-up Seasonal Affective Disorder, the condition of being depressed because of the change of seasons…pro-tip…fly somewhere, the weather will be different, dipstick. But, seriously, SDD? That’s way too close to STD and it discourages people from walking around and sharing their struggles as no one wants to loudly and proudly shout “I have SDD,” lest they see countless people nervously fidget and sidle away from them. https://www.premierhealth.com/your-health/articles/health-topics/screen-addiction-affects-physical-and-mental-health https://nhahealth.com/screen-dependency-disorder-the-effects-of-screen-time-addiction/  There’s also Internet Addiction Disorder, which, when acronymed (not a word), sounds like something a terrorist uses to blow people up. Why couldn’t they call it Compulsive Overuse of Computer Complex…y’know, COCC! Or, Tons of Internet Time, TIT for short. Either way, it’s a real thing…unlike Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which is a nice way of saying you have weak forearms, or Fibromyalgia, which is the medical industry’s way of saying “we have no idea what’s wrong with you, so we’ve decided it’s all in your head and we’ve got a big, long, vowel-filled word to describe it…here’s you’re prescription for a ton of anti-depressants.” https://www.psycom.net/iadcriteria.html  I’m no fan of making everything a disease, syndrome, addiction, ailment, disorder, or malady, but in the case of screen time, we are absolutely hooked…and the whole thing is designed that way! Silicon Valley was outed years ago by the very people who created Social Media…they said the quiet part out loud and admitted that the entire system is literally engineered to essentially alter your brain chemically into NEEDING more and more screen time. https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/facebook-twitter-are-designed-to-be-like-behavioural-cocaine-for-users-insiders/  I’m certainly not suggesting that the answer to any of this is a complete and total abandonment of technology; that’s as asinine as asking a normal American living a normal life to not own a car; maybe more so. I am, however, suggesting that maybe we all could approach technology the same way we should approach food and alcohol…after all, we have a stellar track record in America when it comes to our eating and drinking habits! Wait a minute…well, I’m too far in at this point to think of another topic and start over, so I’m plowing through on my idea and suggesting that it’s time to implement Operation SLIME…Slowly Learn Internet Moderation Exercise. No? Ok, how about LIME; Less Internet More Everything-else? Do we have to go with LIMEE? That sounds so un-American. In any case, the keyword was moderation. Almost everything in life should be done in moderation. If we do anything all of the time, it is simply too much, and it’s also ruined. Yes, even the good stuff…that’s how we got Sex and Porn Addiction for God’s sake! According to data, the average American spends 7 hours and 11 minutes looking at a screen every day…that’s more time than we spend sleeping! What in the hell is wrong with us? https://www.comparitech.com/tv-streaming/screen-time-statistics/#:~:text=According%20to%20data%20from%20DataReportal,of%20screen%20time%20per%20day.https://news.gallup.com/poll/166553/less-recommended-amount-sleep.aspx#:~:text=Americans%20currently%20average%206.8%20hours,nine%20hours%20sleep%20for%20adults.  I realize that our phones, tablets, and laptops are filled with endless wonder, but so are our brains, homes, and the people around us. And again, I’m not a technology Nazi, nor am I proposing some stupid, unattainable goal like “cut your screen time in half by 2022.” I always advise people to start small and easy, and if you like it and feel comfortable, keep the trend going. There’s a reason Alcoholics anonymous has a 5% rate of success…advising people t

Rob's Soapbox - I'm Old, You're Stupid

E

The endless dance in American society is that of the old and the young thinking equally as disparagingly of each other. Kids these days are rude, awkward, lazy, weak, entitled, selfish, tech-obsessed snowflakes who have no work ethic. Old people, by the way, are now defined essentially as everyone over the age of 45 (since the absolute oldest millennials are turning 40 this year, 40 can’t be old…unless you’re in Generation Z, then old people begin being old at 30, and you’re elderly if you’re over 50). Old people are mean, out of touch, bigots, who destroyed the economy a decade and a half ago, making life far much harder than it had to be, and like to walk around reminiscing about “the good old days,” which is easy to do since they destroyed the planet that other generations will never get to enjoy, and they’re just generally slow and in the way.Let’s establish first that age is both a number and a mindset. My co-host Dawn has been in her 50’s mentally since she was in her twenties, while my 90-year-old father is, and always has been in his early 40’s in regards to his outlook, attitude, and approach to life. Acting old and being old are two entirely different things and often determine whether a person whose age is a certain number is “cool for an old person,” or is simply “old.”The difference is, however, that at some point, you can’t physically hide that you’re aging. While there are plenty of creams, potions, serums, and procedures available these days, along with endless information about how we can better treat our bodies along the way to slow the effects of aging, it still shows. Jennifer Aniston and Halle Berry are often cited as two examples of women who don’t look their age. True, and were they not famous, (which allows us to know that their exact ages are 52 and 55 respectively), and we saw them in public for the first time we would no doubt say “wow, what a couple of beautiful older women.” John Stamos, Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, and Steve Carell certainly look younger than the traditional expectation of a man in his late 50’s (Stamos, Lowe, and Carell are 57 and Cruise is 59…FIFTY-NINE! Maybe there is something to that Scientoxicity stuff). The truth is, though, that if they weren’t famous, each one of them would be viewed by a total stranger as being “an attractive man for his age,” or a “good-looking older man.” And it isn’t because we watch celebrities age and do an A-B comparison…it’s because all of the procedures and potions in the world can’t hide the weathering our bodies absorb. We’re no different than wood…you can weather protect it properly and by the book, and instead of ten years, you’ll get 40 out of it. But at 40, it will inevitably show signs of rot and decay that will continue no matter what you do until it merely crumbles to dust…just like us.This is how and why Ageism remains the last acceptable prejudice in America…and yes, I know comedian Bill Maher has been saying that for over a decade, so all credit to him for both the phrase and legitimacy of the thought. While bigotry and prejudice will remain a part of the human condition in perpetuity, amongst agreed-upon social stigmas and attitudes, making fun of peoples’ ages is the only one that gets almost zero pushback, with very rare exceptions. When someone who has crossed whatever that threshold for you is in terms of the calculus between your age at the time and the age over which anyone is old, says something that you don’t agree with, it’s as simple as “well you’re just old,” and people just nod their head, as if to say, “yeah, those are just two different generations disagreeing. It happens.” But that’s both simplistic and wrong. They didn’t merely disagree, the older person was dismissed entirely because of their age, as though that’s an acceptable way to end an argument. It would never, and should never, be okay to end a discussion on financial prosperity and affluence with a black person by saying, “well you’re black, you’re never going to understand.” If you were lecturing someone about long hours and a solid work ethic, ending that lecture with “why am I wasting my time saying this to a Mexican,” you should not garner a knowing head nod from all who heard it.This, by the way, is nothing new for me. There’s another thing we do when we’re young…we dismiss someone who has gotten older as merely trying to “hold on to their youth,” or we don’t even listen to what they are saying about life because we’re just old, as though that means old people are suddenly of no value at all. I turn 50 next month, but  I’ve been speaking and writing about this for years, hoping to change at least a few hearts and minds, with little provable success. I recognized early on in life that the people who had what I wanted, whether it be financial, emotional, psychological, or material, were all people older than me. Rather than dismissing them, as most of my peers did, I sidled up and learned. Who better to show me how to get to where I want

Ep 13Episode 13 - RAD pROBcast - Money Buys Happierness - Part 2

E

It’s the second in our series “Money Buys Happierness,” and by popular demand we begin with the long form answer as to why I prefer leasing over buying vehicles, including the rare exceptions to the rule. From there, we discuss Investments that aren’t actually investments, but people often claim they are. Most notably, morons who say that putting in a pool will “greatly increase the value of the home when we go to sell it,” a total fallacy. We talk about the difference between spending our money on things we enjoy, versus actually investing, and why the two of them almost never match up (which is ok). Boats, pools, and collectibles, are all fun to someone, but almost none of us knows someone who is independently wealthy from selling off their Beanie Babies.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - Care Less

The answer to almost all of your questions related to contentment, happiness, and living your best life, is summed up in two words: Care less. Not careless, as in “behave in a haphazard manner,” but care…less. Before I continue, a quick aside…stop saying “I could care less,” when you are trying to convey to someone that you are bored, have no interest in what is happening, or are incapable of giving two blanks. If you COULD care less, then you care, because you have some still to give up. Once you reach the point where you COULDN’T care less you have stopped caring and have nothing at all left to surrender, for you have already allowed all caring to escape you. Please make proper adjustments moving forward…or don’t, I couldn’t care less.Almost everyone’s hang ups in life, whether it be related to intimate relationships, friendships, finances, or even hobbies and interests, is that they care too much. “hang ups,” in this context is meant as a term that holds us back and keeps us from reaching our true full potential because we are “hung up,” on something that is, at best, distracting us, and literally, at worst, standing in the way of what we truly want and need. What is it, you ask, that you care too much about? Other people…and their opinions, thoughts, judgments, and feelings. Get over that, and I promise you, you’ll be freed from the shackles that bind you.In the military, there is a method known as “breaking.” A new recruit must first be broken as a human being so that he or she can then be rebuilt into an ideal soldier. This is what you must do to yourself if you want to feel absolute contentment; you must break yourself all the way down when it comes to caring about anyone else other than yourself. Once you do, you’ll find how easy it is to build yourself back up and learn the difference between caring FOR other people and ABOUT a very select few. That latter group will be your “inner circle,” and they will have to earn their way into the circle with each and every interaction you have with them, all of the time, every day. Everyone else gets to go to hell and have no space in your head or heart.Too many people, sadly, have to start this process with total strangers. Don’t get me wrong, I know the feeling, but I haven’t felt it since I was 17 years old. When I see or hear about middle aged men and women being concerned with people they don’t know, and have never met, judging them for the items in their grocery cart, I feel nothing but pity for them. There’s a reason I mentioned being 17 the last time this was an issue for me…being self-conscious about the judgments of others that you don’t know is what happens in high school. In other words, it’s childish; and it’s time grow up.The first time I went to a therapist I was convinced that when I walked through the mall with my girlfriend people were laughing at me, making fun of me, and wondering how and why such a beautiful girl was holding my hand. I had purchased my first brand new vehicle, with my own money; it was a Toyota Pick-up truck, (the last style before they made the Tacoma) and I should have been beaming with pride that I had accomplished that at the age of 17, but instead, I was convinced that every single person on the road looked at me in the driver’s seat and thought “well he clearly didn’t earn that, must be his dad’s truck.” These horrible voices of self-loathing were endless. It took only three sessions with my therapist before he was able to make me realize that it was very possible that the people I was so worried about were saying the exact opposite of my thoughts. Perhaps they were complimenting me on my gorgeous girlfriend or thinking how amazing it was that I had worked so hard at such a young age to afford my own brand new truck. Or maybe, they didn’t even notice that I was alive. He challenged me to notice how often I judged, thought about or cared how total strangers looked or acted and it dawned on me that most of the time, I barely even noticed their existence. Maybe life wasn’t all about me.We ended after our sixth session, which was an hour of discussing the possibility that maybe my initial fears were true. Maybe other people were saying and thinking all of those horrible things about me. He made me feel it and relive it. He even played a recording of people I had never met saying things like “that Rob guy is a total fraud. What a joke. Loser.” To my recollection the recording had 5 or 6 different voices and went on for about 2 total minutes. When he stopped it, he just looked at me, raised his eyebrows, and waited…three seconds passed and I realized he was looking for a response so I gave it to him, verbatim: “What do I care? Who the fuck are they and why do they matter to me?” He smirked and said “exactly.” By the way, he was also a teacher at a local college and it turned out that those voices were some of his students who he had asked to say those things after using me as an example to his class of the type of patient t

Rob's Soapbox - Rabbit Season! Duck Season!

E

It’s official…we’re living in a cartoon. There’s no other way to accurately describe it any longer. Just stay with me for a minute, because while none of this will admittedly solve anything, it is laughably beyond comical just how stupid we have become. If you have children, have ever spent time with children, or once were a child (this should cover every living soul on planet Earth), then you can relate to what it’s like to try to pin them down when you’ve caught them in a lie. They are masters at trying to change the subject, distract you, and explaining how they didn’t say what they just said. Most notably, they will not only say things to your face that are provably untrue, they will continue to just make things up to further bolster the credibility of the original lie. And they just keep going and going and going.I remember a doozy I tried to pull on my mom when I was around 10 years old. I grew up as what we called a “latchkey kid,” which, to the horror of too many of you means a child who returns to an empty home after school with no supervision because their parents are away at work. Yes, somehow I lived to tell my story.Part of my responsibilities in exchange for being trusted with this independence were daily chores, which were left for me via a note on the dining room table. I recall it was usually 3-5 things per day like unload the dishwasher, vacuum a room or two, do some dusting, put away laundry, sweep the front porch (I used the hose because it was more fun), clean some windows, etc. In addition, I made my own meals before Little League practice and of course was expected to get my homework done. One day, all of my friends were free and had organized a baseball game in the park in our neighborhood right after school. I raced home, changed, and blasted through my chores half-assed. So half-assed, that I didn’t water the plants on the front deck. Totally forgot.I got home two hours later, right before my parents, and set myself up at the dining room table, diligently doing my homework and looking like the perfect son. To be clear, there was no rule that I couldn’t have played baseball, or that I had to be home before they were, it just worked out that way on this day. The agreement was simply that I had to have my chores done before they came home, and everything else, from play time to homework, was up to my time management. After being home for a few minutes my mother asked me if I had watered the plants…and rather than simply say “oh shoot, mom I totally forgot, I am so sorry, I will do that right now,” the conversation went more like this:MOM: Did you water the plants like your chore list said?ROBBY: yeah, of courseMOM: You’re lying to meROBBY: No I’m notMOM: Robert Edmund (middle name…bad sign)…don’t you dare lie to me (I believe at this moment her index finger was 1 centimeter away from my nose).ROBBY: I’m not lyingMOM: why is the hose in the exact same place, laying the exact same way it was when I left this morning?ROBBY: Because I was careful to put it back the way I found it like you’ve taught me (so lame).MOM: Why is there not a drop of water anywhere on the deck between plants?ROB: Because I was careful? (asked as a question, with a mild smirk, realizing I was losing, but hoping my cuteness might get her to break…no such luck)Silent stare…this was my next chance to come clean…and so of course:ROBBY: Actually, I kinked the hose after I watered each plant so no water would drip on the deck when I moved between plants.MOM: Why is the dirt bone dry?ROBBY: Because it’s hotAt this point, she grabbed me by the hand, took me out front, and shoved my index finger all the way into the dirt of one of the plants…it was so dry it was dusty. I then got a very spirited lecture about lying in general, let alone my mother, character, ethics, how a man’s word is all he has, and I was probably reminded that my grandfather was a marine and he didn’t fight for my freedom so that I could lie (even though technically that’s erroneous since lying is covered under the First Amendment…but I digress.Your country is being governed and run by little Robby. At every single, solitary turn, you are lied to, and then another lie is told to make you believe the first one, and then things are literally made up, with flimsy or no facts to support them, and on and on and on it goes. It’s rabbit season, then it’s duck season, and it never ends.17 months ago you were told to lockdown for two weeks to stop the spread so that hospitals could prepare for the inevitable onslaught of Coronavirus cases. Two weeks became four, then 10. You were told masks were a placebo, and then a month later, you were asked to wear a mask to protect others because we were all in this together. To protect yourself and everyone else, the most important thing was to socially distance yourself by at least 6 feet. Also, wipe down counters, groceries, door knobs, and everything that anyone anywhere ever touches, and make sure you check everyone’s

Rob's Soapbox - It Sucks Being An American In America

E

I’ve touched on this before and shall continue to do so, since so very few people are aware of it, and even fewer seem to care much once they find out, which remains galling to me.As Americans remain at one another’s throats over whether or not children need to wear masks in schools and/or get vaccines, and whether or not vaccinated adults need to wear masks, the country is literally importing Covid cases at an alarming rate.According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP…also known more casually as “The Border Patrol,”), and The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the United States this year, will allow nearly 2 million migrants to enter America illegally by the end of this calendar year, which will be the highest number in more than two decades. There are 13 states in America whose entire populations are below 2 million. Essentially, in 2021, we will have let in the equivalent of the entire population of Montana and Rhode Island combined. Or Hawaii and Wyoming combined. Or Vermont, Alaska and North Dakota, combined. It’s a fun numbers game…try it at home. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/us-border-arrests-top-1-million-fiscal-year-2021-2021-06-25/https://worldpopulationreview.com/statesAt this point the conversation can become very convoluted and controversial, so let’s cut through the crap and stick with what is undeniable, rather than getting bogged down into discussions about the living conditions of these migrants in their home countries, whether or not they do jobs Americans aren’t willing to do, or how we can afford this as a nation. Those points and so many others are for another time. Here's what is provably happening: Anyone who crosses our Southern border illegally as part of a family unit (and according to CBP, groups of 100 or more family members at a time are crossing in record numbers) are allowed to stay in America. Technically, they are arrested and given a temporary asylum with a hearing date in the future in an American court, and then released…but those court dates are now years in the future, and less than 10% ever even show up for their scheduled appearance. https://www.wsj.com/articles/surge-of-migrants-at-u-s-southern-border-bidens-plan-and-what-you-need-to-know-11616788003Any unaccompanied minor is allowed to stay in America. According to CBP, in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, the number of unaccompanied children arrested was about 65,000…all now part of American society. The number of known “Got-aways,” is at a record high. The CBP defines a “got away” as an individual who is not turned back to Mexico or apprehended, and is no longer being actively pursued by Border Patrol. In other words, Border Patrol Agents see these individuals crossing into America illegally, but are unable to apprehend them because they are so overwhelmed and busy. The agency currently estimates 1,500 got-aways PER DAY. That’s over 40,000 people who we know nothing about, including their criminal background, potential gang affiliations, and health, sneaking into the United States every month and now roaming our streets. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/got-aways-border/2021/04/01/14258a1e-9302-11eb-9af7-fd0822ae4398_story.htmlAlmost ALL of the “got-aways,” are single men, because those are the only people, essentially, that we’re actually sending back when we arrest them. Thus, they just try, try, again until they become a “Got-away.”These are just the numbers that we know. None of these mind boggling statistics account for those sneaking across the border and into America unbeknownst to anyone.Again, now is not the time to mention, worry about, or scream drugs, crime, gangs, mercy, compassion, border walls and the like, although they all have to be worked through before we ever come close to even beginning to solve this issue. Here are a couple more undeniable facts about these newest humans walking our streets and such, which should make your head explode when put into the context of living in a country threatening to demand vaccinated people wear masks and insisting that the pandemic is far from over:The number of detainees who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector alone has increased by 900%, in the first two weeks of July alone. And again, those are just the ones we caught and actually tested, which is a miniscule number compared to the totality. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/covid-cases-migrants-rio-grande-valley-sector-border-numbersEven more appalling is that 30% of all of the migrants taken into custody are refusing to get vaccinated. PARDON ME? Allow me to break this down for you…they enter America, a nation on pins and needles and filled with anxiety over going backwards as it relates to Covid, and they do so…illegally. They then turn down getting vaccinated against this virus that is threatening to rip this country apart. A Vaccine that this very country is doing everyth

Rob's Soapbox - A Dancing Bear, Monkeypox and a Child Felon

I’ve got something a little different for you this week; while prepping the upcoming week’s shows, a few stories caught my eye that I felt deserved a deeper “Rob-only” dive than the RAD show allows. So, without further ado:I’m all for defending cultures different than ours. Anytime some American gets on their high horse about how wrong other countries are for things like bullfighting, eating horse, and spending a week every summer running away from Bulls in Pamplona, I point out that those are cultural norms of historic proportion which have been around in the various countries that engage in them longer than the United States has been a country. Not to mention, we hardly have all of our problems and issues locked down here in America, and maybe we should focus on fixing ourselves first.Don’t get me wrong, speaking out about the fact that every year 25 million dogs are killed for food consumption is valiant, but it’s also a matter of perspective. While we view those 11 countries that account for 99% of those canine meals as reprehensible, the rest of the world views us equally as disgusting. The United States was recently ranked as the second-worst nation in the world for animal cruelty for our reliance on factory farms and treatment of our livestock. Why are they wrong and we’re right? If your answer is “because we’re America,” then you are the worst type of American who truly knows nothing about the country you profess to love. https://foreverinmyheartjewelry.com/blogs/news/11-countries-that-kill-over-25-million-dogs-a-yearhttps://www.livekindly.co/america-rated-second-worst-country-in-the-world-for-animal-cruelty/  Acknowledging and respecting other cultures and their different ways does not mean, however, that we cannot revel in delight whenever some dumb human comes up on the short-end of the stick while engaging in questionable behavior with an animal. I get a little giddy every year when I see some dope’s kidney wind up on the end of a steer’s horn in Spain, or whenever a big game hunter from some Anglo country travels to Africa only to be trampled to death by elephants. These things warm the cockles of my heart. And so, it was with disgusted glee I read the story out of Russia, where they not only still embrace the circus, they also rely heavily on animal acts to entertain their soulless children. Most notably, they take giant brown bears, dress them up in hats and scarves, and then make them dance. How quaint. Over the weekend, imagine this, one attacked its’ human dance partner…not once, not twice, but three times, as hundreds of children watched. Sadly, the female trainer who was attacked not only lived, but wasn’t seriously wounded, and I’m sure the bear was later executed and probably eaten by President Putin, but here’s hoping for a better outcome next time. At least countless children were shown the possible results of screwing with a bear, while simultaneously being hopefully scarred for life. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9799701/Performing-bear-goes-wild-Russian-circus-attack-female-trainer-horrified-children.html  Meanwhile, back in America, A Texas resident who recently traveled from Africa has been hospitalized after catching monkeypox, which originates from the same family of viruses as smallpox. It’s a rare disease that causes flu-like illness and swelling of the lymph nodes, progressing to a widespread rash on the face and body. While this is the first known case of monkeypox in America since 2003, experts do believe that human-to-human transmission of monkeypox occurs primarily through large respiratory droplets. Well…we have seen this movie before, haven’t we? After all, we’re told that we reacted too slowly to the Coronavirus (even though no nation on Earth actually controlled the virus in any meaningfully measurable way…but I digress), so I suggest we get proactive. Let’s lockdown the state of Texas for the foreseeable future, close its’ borders, make all non-essential workers stay home, ban all forms of fun, and for the few people that will be allowed to leave their homes, of course, masks will be mandatory. That should stop a monkeypox outbreak. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2021/07/16/first-u-s-case-of-human-monkeypox-18-years-found-in-texan/7998388002/  Just a few states away, in Mississippi, Six-year-old Mylah Santa Maria has become a viral superstar for her oh-so-sweet gesture of calling first responders from Collins, Mississippi using 911 to tell them she loved and supported them. Isn’t that precious? https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/first-grader-calls-911-sweet-message-first-responders  Six-year-old Mylah Santa Maria called 911 to deliver an urgent message."I need y’all to tell the sheriff … that I love him and I love y’all," Mylah, told the dispatcher."I will make sure that I get that to him, OK?" the dispatcher answered, according to a transcript of the call placed earlier this week. But wait, there’s more…

Rob's Soapbox - Good News / Bad News

E

One of my mentors and best friends taught me long ago to always lead with the bad news. “Bad news first,” he would say when I walked into his office (since I rarely came with good news, but that’s for another soapbox). I adopted that strategy in all facets of my life and it has served me well. However, it’s not great for showbiz, so we’re going to start with the good news. Driving to and from Las Vegas over summer vacation, spending almost a week there, and then spending lots of time in the greater Sacramento area going to dinners, lunches, and stores, there was a lot of good. Unfortunately, the good was basically breaking my self-imposed rule of celebrating normal. It IS good, though, to see seemingly so many people returning to life. In Vegas, maybe 25% of all people were wearing masks, and there was certainly no social distancing of any kind going on there. The casinos, bars, restaurants and strip itself were packed shoulder to shoulder. There was the odd store, like Louis Vuitton, who was still engaging in capacity limits and lines to get in (thus, they didn’t get our business) and only one store in all of Vegas (we went to literally dozens) asked us to put on a mask to enter. Thus, we didn’t enter…screw you, Valentino. My wife found her shoes elsewhere, thank you. The roads everywhere are packed, to be sure. What should have been a 7-8 hour drive to Las Vegas took over 10, solely because there were just too many damn cars (and tons of truckers keeping America running) on the road. Not just in Vegas, but also Reno, where we stopped briefly, and throughout Sacramento, people are also generally in good, positive moods. In fact, I noticed that the only grouchy people seem to be the ones who should be at home in the first place; those rare customers wearing masks, who seem incapable of being happy about anything. It was also noteworthy and refreshing to observe that essentially no one, anywhere, is talking about anything related to Covid. The maskers don’t talk to anyone anyway, so they don’t count. Everyone else was talking about plans, sports, the weather, which concerts and events they’re going to go to, seeing family and friends, getting back to work in offices, even the holidays. So yes, normal is good…it shouldn’t be celebrated, but it should be at least noticed. It also comes with some unfortunate side effects after the last year. Most notably, people are awkward as hell. It’s glaringly obvious who amongst us has spent the last year living life as normally as possible, and who actually literally stayed home the entire time. Many times my wife and I felt like we were teaching children how to socialize with strangers in public for the first time, but hey, at least they’ve found their way back…and again, were almost universally pleasant and positive. Something else that’s glaringly obvious from Vegas and back is the worker shortage; it’s real and it’s bad. The people who are working are trying, you can tell…but there just aren’t enough of them, anywhere. Wait times are forever, lines are long, service is slow, and it’s not incompetence, it’s lack of bodies. At a couple restaurants in Vegas we noticed long wait times to get tables with entire sections of tables empty; being the curious (nosey) types that we are, we asked if they were still limiting capacities or following protocols at these places and the answer was the same every time; absolutely not… “we just don’t have enough people working.” As a fellow business owner, it was downright depressing to see so much potential revenue and income being squandered solely because there aren’t enough people willing to work. None of that, however, is the bad news. People will get better at socializing again, and the workers will return, in time. The question is when, exactly, and that’s where the bad news comes in. I stayed entirely ignorant for the first 10 days of our vacation; turning on no news, avoiding websites that didn’t contain recipes or porn, and trying my best to cleanse my covid soaked brain which has been on overload for the past 15 months. I wasn’t surprised when I dove back in to the happenings of the universe to see the endless stories about crime skyrocketing, racial tensions, heatwaves, and billionaires heading into outer space. Same stuff, different day for this decade so far. Come to think of it, I did turn on some news on the drive home from Vegas; Christina needed a nap, and I needed something that I actually had to concentrate on other than the endless landscape of sage and feral donkeys that make up Nevada, so I decided to listen to some news on satellite radio since it would at least hold my attention, and I knew I couldn’t hide from it forever. I heard the current Surgeon General of the United States, Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy in an interview talking about the Delta variant strain of the Covid virus. If you’ve bene fortunate enough to miss it, the Delta strain is the lasts muta

As my wife, Christina, and I gear up for summer vacation in Las Vegas, we discuss a recent weekend road trip that opened our eyes to just how stir crazy, socially inept, and awkward people have become over the last year of isolation. In addition to people on the road seemingly transporting dead bodies and randomly stopping on freeway onramps, we also do a deep dive into the wonders of Central California, including two of its’ shiniest gems, Turlock and Modesto (and why we never need to be in that part of the state every again). If you need a little religion, there’s always the Vegan World Prayer, and we give a review of one of our favorite comedians, Bill Burr, and why he should stick with comedy and walk away from the podcasting.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - And Speaking Of...

E

July 1st marks the halfway mark for 2021…which in and of itself is noteworthy since a year ago, it felt like it took decades to get this point. Suddenly, 2021 is moving at warp speed for many of us, which is a good thing, as it indicates a return to American normalcy, which we’re seeing from coast to coast. Parents are getting in fights on Little League fields, people are angry over cereal that celebrates Pride month, and the fact that it's 100 degrees in June is somehow news once again. See? Normal! America has resumed being angry, upset, and worried about stupid stuff rather than a pandemic, which is all good news. So why not take a moment to take stock of where we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re headed? After all, now that we don’t really have Covid to consume us (although many will make sure we still fear it for a long, long time), we can all turn our attention to the myriad of things wrong with the nation in each of our eyes. Remember that? Remember how, back in 2019, we would all bitch about stuff that we hated within our culture, society, and politics, and then we’d do absolutely nothing to change any of the things we were upset about? We’re back baby!Let’s start with money…and how little of it you’re going to have soon. Oh, sorry…too much out of the gate? Well, too bad; inflation is soaring, meaning everything you buy is more and more expensive, while your paycheck remains stagnant. As Americans hit the road this summer, they’re going to discover that whatever they budgeted for their vacation isn’t nearly enough. For some reason, we pay more attention to how much things cost when we’re having fun than we do in our day-to-day lives. It seems counter-intuitive but study after study shows it. It’s probably some sort of self-sabotage mechanism built into us as a way to always ruin an otherwise great time. Either way, there’s no end in sight, and it’s one more nail in the coffin of America’s middle class. The upper classes absorb inflation and actually profit from it in the long run, but those on the edge suffer mightily, and many will fall off in the latter half of 2021. https://www.axios.com/inflation-cpi-prices-consumers-investors-52eab768-db5d-4712-a439-a6ed75cdcb56.html Which, believe it or not, brings us to immigration errrr…I’m sorry, I mean “migration,” the new politically correct, super soft and polite term for what we not long ago called illegal aliens crossing into America and sucking off the tit of those of us working our asses off. Just last month, there were 180,000 illegal crossings at our southern border THAT WE KNOW OF. 180,000! In just one month, the entire population total of both Roseville and Rocklin, California combined came to America…and were set free within our borders with no consequences, no tracing, and no hope of ever forcing them back home. This is all shielded under the guise of America being compassionate, when, the truth is that such lunacy will further bankrupt this nation and cost those of us born here and those who legally became U.S. Citizens. There is nothing hateful or racist about pointing out that it is simply unsustainable to continue to financially support millions of people, in perpetuity, that have no business being in this country to begin with. We have countless citizens living in their cars, or worse, and yet those on the lunatic fringe of the Democratic party are demanding that we swing open the gates, lay out the welcome mat, and continue to throw buckets of water onto our already sinking ship. It’s nothing more than a continuation of the criminal behavior that was wrought on us for the past year vis a vie Covid, just in a new form. https://abcnews.go.com/US/crisis-border-happened/story?id=78312099 And speaking of the virus, let’s start by thanking and congratulating all of our liberal friends for leading the way to herd immunity. Call them whatever names you must, but acknowledge that herd immunity is a good thing for all of us, regardless of how we got here…and we ARE there. Just because political and health officials won’t say it out-loud, doesn’t make it less true; like everything else related to Covid, you only need your eyes and some common sense. With close to 70% of the eligible population vaccinated, and approximately half of the unvaccinated already ripe with antibodies from having had the virus, America has made it. No less than Dr. Marty Makary of Johns Hopkins, who has been widely respected by both sides of the political aisle over the past year, has said as much, and he’s right. For America, the pandemic is over…for the rest of the world, it rages. Of course, none of that is stopping the fear porn that is the media and the drama queens amongst us who will continue to wear masks for no damn reason, and constantly wring their hands in fear of anyone with a sniffle. Yes, variants are a legitimate concern if they’re allowed to circulate amongst a large enough group of unprotected people, and yes, the virus could gain strength an

Rob's Soapbox - Stop Saying You Don't Have A Choice

E

As America’s most populous state re-opens, it’s a good time for an instructive look at just how stupid, ignorant, arrogant, misinformed, and un-American too many Americans have become. On June 15th, California will lift almost all of its’ Covid-related restrictions, including its’ mask mandate. Which is odd, since I live in California and haven’t worn a mask inside a business since September of 2020 (with rare exceptions like taking parents to medical facilities). Do you know why that is? Because I had a choice…I could follow the rules imposed by the almighty government, or I could choose to live my life the way that I wanted to, and accept the consequences. As it turns out, there weren’t any consequences, ever…but I was fully prepared to leave a business that asked me to wear a mask because I had that choice. The business could choose to tell me I had to wear a mask in order to shop, and I could choose to not shop there. See…choices? We all have them.Which brings us to the vaccine, and an asinine and disturbing segment of last weeks RAD show in which the fear, foolishness, and delusion of too many was on full display.A listener wrote in upset that the small office that she works in had decided that all employees will have to wear masks moving forward unless and until all of them are vaccinated…and she’s the only one not vaccinated. She mentioned that she loves this job and she ended her letter asking “what choice do I have?”Somewhat stunned, and feeling as though I was talking to a kindergartner, I explained to her that her choices were as follows:Get vaccinatedLeave the job you loveSee? Choices! The floodgates opened with ridiculous cries of coercion and claims that “it’s not a choice if you’re being told that you have to do something in order to work!”Ummmm…your employer dictates endless demands that you must adhere to on a regular basis if you want to work there…and they have the right to make such decisions, and you have the choice to work there or not under whatever demands they impose. You are not owed, guaranteed, nor entitled to a job. Countless employers across America demand that people who work for them pass drug tests and get the flu shot every year, and they have every legal right to do so…and they should! As an employer, I can CHOOSE to impose whatever restrictions I want to on you…and you can CHOOSE to either abide by them, or work elsewhere…see? Choices! And yet…moron after moron called and wrote in, with clearly no understanding of what freedom is, nor of America’s basic principles. These are the same dumbasses that claim they have a right to free speech in someone else’s home, or on their Facebook page, completely missing the 1st and 4th amendments which state that only the government shall make no laws restricting your speech, while guaranteeing that you, as a home or business owner, have all of the power to determine what happens in said places.Enter Heather…bless her heart…she sent this gem:Wanted to send an email about the COVID vaccine topic….I just hope if you read this it may help you consider a different prospective.First of all, it’s a perspective…and, no, you provided absolutely nothing that hadn’t already been displayed in all of its’ ignorance. If my job forced me to get an unapproved vaccine, I would be forced to seriously consider changing companies…I work (14 years) for an amazing company.. great benefits, very diverse, lots of money. It would really suck to leave a job I love. But to force me to get a vaccine that hasn’t fully been approved, in my opinion is infringing on my civil rights. I as an American feel it’s important to adhere to ‘my body my choice’. This isn’t a political or religious stance.. it’s a constitutional stance. We have all of these freedoms afforded to us. Why is this being pushed so hard? WOW…lots to unpack there…let’s get started. If your company decided to tell you that you needed to be vaccinated to work there, your job isn’t forcing you to do anything. It’s telling you that if you want to continue your employment, then you must add to the list of demands that it already makes on you, getting vaccinated. It’s no different than the fact that you have to be at work by 8, wear appropriate attire, and not be drunk on the job.Your civil rights remain fully intact…you have the ability to say “hell no, I am not putting that poison in my arm,” and your employer, as they should, has the right to say “I respect that but you can’t work for me based on your decision.” See? Choices! The freedoms afforded you are still intact, you’re just an idiot. And as an aside, I laugh hysterically at those of you clinging to whatever arguments you can to justify your childish behavior. To be clear, you have every right to not get the vaccine…I don’t care if you do or not, just stop being a toddler when trying to justify why you aren’t. Just say “I don’t want it,” and be done…no need to say absolutely stupid things like “ (I’m not going to get) a vaccine that hasn’t fully been

Rob's Soapbox - America's Next 9/11

E

We knew 9/11 was coming. Eight months prior to the attacks of September 11, 2001, something called the Hart-Rudman report was issued which spelled out explicitly the likeliness of the events of what would ultimately occur, and it was almost universally ignored by all. Most elected officials that the report was written for never read it, and the media barely mentioned it. The most prominent story on it was a blurb on page 23 of the New York Times in early 2001. https://www.aspeninstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/files/content/docs/pubs/jsp-Alarms-Unheeded.pdf We knew 9/11 was coming and we did nothing. We didn’t take it seriously, and we didn’t change a thing that could have prevented it, even though we had several choices, and the report made a myriad of recommendations. And all of us are to blame, because Americans, writ large, waved away such a suggestion as absurd and arrogantly suggested nothing like that could ever happen. We are about to repeat our history, with much graver results. We know the next 9/11 is coming and for this one, we don’t need a report, we just need open eyes and common sense. But for those who require gravitas, look no further than the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, who has begun publicly sounding the alarm about the impending doom that awaits America. Incidentally, when a figure of his stature begins saying things like what he did last week to the media, it means he’s been saying it to anyone and everyone he could within our nation’s institutions and has been universally ignored. We call it “going loud,” or put less delicately, “covering your ass.” Not only do we know that the next 9/11 is coming, we also know that America will quite literally crumble into disarray, infighting, panic, and total chaos when it occurs. We know this based entirely on our own recent history, in which we have demonstrated the fundamental shift in our society which is undeniable; we are no longer, in any way, the United States. We are angrily divided in ways that make it impossible for us to coalesce around anything; in fact, the first thing we do at the sign of trouble is panic, followed swiftly by blaming, and culminating with rage filled in-fighting and a form of national self-immolation. Our response to Covid-19 is almost too obvious and lazy to cite, but it was, for many of us, the ultimate vindication. I have been sounding the alarm for more than a decade, warning that the days of America rallying together were over. Anytime such heresy was uttered I, and people like me, were shouted down, and told that America has always fought bitterly within but will rise to whatever challenge it faces as a whole. Remember the rallying cry for the Coronavirus? “We’re all in this together.” What a joke. As we ran over each other to stockpile toilet paper (something that to this day makes zero sense), we were far too busy showing that we had neither trust nor care for our fellow Americans to be in anything together other than bedlam. And then, we swiftly shifted to blaming Trump, Democrats, Fauci, and each other for everything. There was absolutely nothing that united us; and ironically, we had an exterior entity we could have laser focused our contempt on and we never even gave it a thought. From the beginning, we knew that the virus came from China. Whether accidentally, maliciously, or from a bat, the America of old, right or wrong, would have turned its’ angst and anxiety shoulder to shoulder towards the Far East and demanded answers, while remaining united. Instead, we got into fist fights over masks, childishly tried to hide from a virus (which is like hiding from oxygen and gravity), and destroyed countless lives in so many ways. Even now, as America has led the way to emerging from the pandemic, something we should be celebrating, we fight about doing so, as so many insist on continuing to wear masks for no justifiable reason, and demand that we stay home longer and longer and longer. Just weeks ago, when The Colonial Pipeline, which provides 45% of fuel to the Eastern third of America, was hacked via a Ransomware attack based in Russia, Americans reacted by literally creating a crisis. There was absolutely no shortage of gasoline, nor any need to panic. In fact, had Americans gone about their lives as per usual, nothing would have come of the story. Instead, people rushed the gas stations and filled up their vehicles, gas cans, plastic tubs, shopping bags, and other random containers, with gasoline they didn’t need that has now since expired and is not usable. In doing so, they created a shortage that was completely unnecessary and totally avoidable. Does that sound like a nation ready to confront a national calamity? Just last week, the world’s largest meat supplier was also hacked by Russians; and Americans did what they do best; panicked. Meat purchases soared, as did prices, for no justifiable reason. We are a petrified nation of children with no interest

Rob's Soapbox - What Else?

E

Let us start with this premise; we must acknowledge that almost everyone loves to reflect longingly on “better times;” it’s not just an “American thing,” it’s part of the human condition. We like to claim that times “before,” were far better than now. The “before” can be anything from before we, ourselves, were born, or simply a time earlier in our own personal lives.Much of this comes from imagery and personal memories. Americans aware of their nations’ history often wax nostalgic about the 1950’s; this is almost always associated with pictures and stories we were told of the post-World War II high, the booming economy, and the nation as a whole having established itself as the world’s leader.  Sounds great, doesn’t it? And it was…unless you were a woman or a person of color. Things weren’t so great for them, let alone anyone questioning their sexuality or even their gender.Generation X-ers, (people of my age), tend to glamorize the 90’s, thanks to the fact that the economy was booming, most of us were in our 20’s, and, as we remember it, everything was just great! People got along, most were happy, and there was a fitness and health boom. Not to mention Seinfeld, Friends, the dawn of fast-paced action films like “Speed,” grunge, alternative, rock, pop and country music were all wildly popular! Everyone played Super-Nintendo, we all talked “around the water cooler,” and there was the promise of this fancy and exciting new thing called “the internet.” Meanwhile, we were ushering in the age of school shootings across America and slowly beginning to literally destroy the foundation of societal America by handing out participation trophies and launching the “self-esteem movement,” designed to make our children feel better about themselves by telling them that they were always correct and right and special. My point is this; things are always crystal clear in our brain’s rear-view mirror because we’re able to self-edit and omit at will. Which is how many people today decry the biased media, as though it’s never existed before; completely ignoring the facts of the past and the reality of the present.Forgiving the use of hyperbole, there was never an un-biased, fair, or bi-partisan media, writ large, in America. Walter Cronkite, AKA “The most trusted man in America,” was loudly and proudly “liberal,” by his own definition, yet we’re told was un-biased in his reporting, an almost unbelievable assertion, especially when you take the time to review many of his most famous moments. The “big 3,” news reporters of the 90’s, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, and Dan Rather, were all leftists entrusted with telling Americans the news, when what they actually did was skew the facts and events to fit their political narrative. This, in fact, was the “justification,” for the rise of Rush Limbaugh and, later, Fox News…to balance the playing field by lying, omitting, and distorting the “news,” in the opposite direction of what had been previously considered to be factual. The argument that there was a time when we were given facts by news reporters is infantile, naïve, nostalgic, and provably untrue if you desire to indulge yourself in the time to research the facts, as opposed to what you’ve been told, or what you have chosen to remember. Plus, it misses the point.Prior to the turn of the century, even with Limbaugh exploding and Fox News emerging, there was an understanding and acceptance in America that has long since disappeared, much to our detriment. No matter our disagreements, many of them volatile and powerful, there is something we have completely lost unlike at no other time in our history, save the Civil War. We have lost our Americanism.Tribalism is the state of being organized by, or advocating for, tribes or tribal lifestyles. Human evolution has primarily occurred in small groups, as opposed to people's cooperation in society as a whole, save one exception: America, prior to 2000. Don’t misunderstand; there’s always been what I call micro-tribalism in America, but as a nation we still rallied around the country as a whole. We were, at the core, Americans, which was defined as our ability to freely fight with one another, but always acknowledge that we were united as one nation. That notion was shattered in the presidential election of 2000, has never been repaired, and is worse than it’s ever been since 1861. There is quite literally NOTHING that unites us as a nation. A year ago I used this same analogy with a different name, but it’s no less true; if President Biden were assassinated tomorrow, there would be no national unity. Half the nation would mourn, the other would cheer and you know damn well the same is true had it been Trump. We’ve become a nation of tribalist cannibals; willing, even hoping, to eat our own in an effort to recreate the nation in our own image, while not even allowing the other opinions a voice. It’s the most un-American we’ve ever been.Enter social media. Pause for vomit. Continue.Soci

Rob's Soapbox - Father Time Is Losing His Touch

When it comes to mortality, and specifically, the understanding that we all, eventually, must recognize our limitations, I’ve always said that the only true undefeated heavyweight champion is Father Time. He wins every time…he gets all of us. In other words, put bluntly; we all get old, we all decay, and we all die. Although it seems as though lately, Father Time is slacking off. Years ago, it became nouveau to exclaim that “50 is the new 40,” or whatever decade dissolving version suited the speaker. And certainly, it is undeniable that modern medicine, a better understanding of self-care, and a drive to stay relevant and active has motivated a large portion of our society to find ways to stay relevant, hip, and flourishing. We’ve talked about this phenomenon for a while, and now, as the world rejoins normalcy, we see again the same trends we’ve been seeing for years; adults previously described as “middle-aged,” are going to, hanging out with, partying with, and sometimes dating (or marrying eh-hem) people half their age. And everyone is having a good time doing it. For the most part, the “older” women aren’t accused of “trying too hard,” and the men aren’t seen as creeps. In fact, dudes in their 20’s with mommy issues are discovering that women in their 40’s can be funny, fun, and sometimes hot as hell. Women in their 20’s who find their dads to be “adorable,” at best, are realizing that other men his same age are actually capable of more than just dad jokes, constantly bringing the room down with safety speeches, and unpleasant bodily noises. Nowhere is this new-found delay in aging more on display than the sports world, especially now. Tom Brady just won his seventh Super Bowl in one of the most brutal games played at the age of 43; and plans to play to at least 45 (and probably longer). Mike Tyson is 54 years old and is back to boxing…and he isn’t just boxing, he looks menacing, fast, focused, and filled with precision. If you have a 3 at the beginning of your age, you have no business playing competitive tennis and yet Serena Williams won her sixth Wimbledon title at the age of 33, and is still winning at age 39! In fact, the tennis world is currently dominated by 30-year-olds, which is historically unheard of. Mere moments ago, 51-year-old Phil Mickelson became the oldest golfer in history to win a major tournament; and he didn’t just win it, he dominated it. And while it’s fun and easy to pick on golf, it is undeniably one of the most physically demanding and grueling activities which has destroyed more backs and knees than can be counted. It used to be that when people tried to “hold on to their youth,” it was pathetic and sad to watch, but too many people are doing it too well now to let it go unnoticed. Some of the most hip, relevant, and influential people are of the “age” that used to be relegated to those who were “on their way out.” It’s always been known that men, for example, hit the peak of their earning power between 45-55 years old, but they were also seen as the elder statesmen of whatever industry they were in; now, they ARE the industry that they’re in, and most seem to have no intention to quietly step aside, nor do they appear as though they need to.Joe Rogan is 53, Elon Musk 49, Matthew McConaughey 51, Will Smith 52, and Andy Cohen is 52, and all of them (and so many more), regardless of what you personally may think of them, are at the top of their chosen fields and wield massive amounts of power and influence across various parts of our society. Judy Sheindlin, AKA “Judge Judy,” is wildly popular amongst all age groups, still wicked smart, and just signed a new contract for a new show said to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. 57-year-old Michelle Obama speaks and everyone other than hard-line Republicans (and racists) pays attention. I’m no fan of Gwyneth Paltrow, but at the age of 48, she and her goopiness remain wildly relevant to millions of people. Jennifer Aniston looks nowhere close to 52 years old and is beloved and influential to almost all. And don’t use the tired and lazy argument that everyone I’ve mentioned by name is a celebrity…of course they are! This entire soapbox would make no sense if I referenced my 65-year-old friend Tony and my 52-year-old friend Ralph. And that’s the point…it’s simply false and pathetic to claim that only rich and famous people are defying age because they have trainers, nutritionists, and surgery at their disposal. 1995 called and wants its’ excuse back. None of this is to assert that the always trend-setting under 40 crowd has lost its’ cache. Not at all; they just no longer own it in the way it was once demanded. There’s actually space for all of us at the table of hipness and for the first time in my (long) lifetime, the older seem more accepting of the younger, and the younger see more of a value to the older. This is what we call progress. Certainly all of this could seem

Ep 3Episode 3 - RAD pROBcast - Interview with Jammi from InkOffme

Jammi from Inkoff.me helps me take a deep dive on what gives Barbara Walters sexual gratification, strange things she witnessed stuck inside of people during her years working the ER, and why her name is spelled wrong. Jammi also explains how she’s raised a teenage son who DOESN’T have a social media account and she even cries at one point! OH, and we also spend some time exploring the hypothesis that some people who go to prison might actually be human beings who genuinely want and deserve a helping hand at reforming themselves and rejoining society and how that is actually the driving force behind everything they do at Inkoff.me. It’s yet another reminder of the amazing family all of us in the RAD universe are and how blessed we are to be working together to live, laugh, love, and help one another.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - Un-Masking The Masked

E

What a week…the liars, drama queens, look-at-me crowd, and control freaks were all exposed in less than 48 hours and it was a glorious sight to behold. This is it…our chance…the time when the “silent majority,” that we’ve all been talking about so much, yet hearing from so little, gets to seize the moment, momentum and moral high ground and reclaim society. After 15 months of being told to “follow the Fauci,” and having “SCIENCE,” screamed in our faces, the most pathetic amongst us now find themselves alone and abandoned by their saviors. The CDC and Heir Fauci announced in unison that vaccinated people may now resume 2019 life and it broke America…at least the America that’s been running things since March, 2020. Those of us who have been wondering why, from the beginning, we didn’t tell the vulnerable and scared to just stay home while the rest of us kept the country running, have suddenly been given out figurative “get out of jail free card,” and it’s killing the timid, the scared, and the meek.  Suddenly, those of us who, from the beginning, said we need to live with virus, have the backing and power of the very lunatics and institutions who wrecked this country and tried to drive us into our homes to hide from a virus that the entire world could not hide from. We are not Australia, New Zealand, or a handful of other island and peninsula nations that were able to shut down and contain and control Covid-19…we’re what used to be the United States of America; we’re supposed to show the globe how to do things. Instead, we allowed fear-mongering nerds to tell us they knew best when they didn’t know anything. But now, they know what we know…and it is absolutely triggering those who want to continue to hide…hide their faces, hide inside, and hide from life. I present to you Alison McCook…she has a B.S. in science with the emphasis on “B.S.” If you research her, what she actually is…is a guilty, privileged freelance “journalist” white girl who clearly hates herself, America, and anything remotely related to liberty, freedom, and personal responsibility. I encourage you to Google her name, read her articles, and puke at will. Or simply, allow me to present a recent article of hers, written after we were told that it’s time for America to unmask itself, with proper retorts included: Headline: The CDC’s new mask rules promise freedom. But to me they mean fear. Retort: Jesus jumped up Christ… Article: On Thursday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) made a surprise announcement: Retort: It wasn’t a surprise to anyone who actually knows, understands and follows science, especially since thousands of doctors and scientists were calling on the CDC to do exactly what they did. Article: Anyone who is fully vaccinated can now stop masking and social distancing, including indoors. Though many public health experts had said they thought we would need masks when indoors with strangers for at least another year, the nation’s health protection agency has declared that anyone who received the last dose of their COVID-19 vaccine at least two weeks ago can start living life the way they did before this god-awful thing began. Retort: The God-awful thing in this dim-wits brain is the virus; to the rest of us, it’s the destruction of our country and, most notably, our children, which, she clearly gives two licks about, if that. Meanwhile, she exposes herself early on as a hypochondriac and drama-mama since an equal number of “health experts” have disagreed entirely with masks from the beginning, they just weren’t allowed to be heard by people like Ms. McCook…who now is looking for new experts. Article: I have spent the last 20-plus years as a science journalist. Retort: That’s not a thing…it’s a made-up title that says “I never actually practiced science, and I make my living by shouting my credentials from rooftops and then proving that even C- students get degrees. Article: I believe in the vaccines, and that the CDC’s new advice is likely supported by the latest data. I believe in Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, who says he feels good about the CDC’s new decision and wants people to feel like we are approaching “normality.” But Thursday’s announcement from the CDC has filled me with fear. Retort: That’s because you’re a dumbass who betrays the very science you claim to worship. You want to be afraid, need to be afraid, and are a putrid human who needs to be pitied, not read, as demonstrated by your running away from the very institutions and doctors you worshipped for the last 15 months. Article: For one, I’m not fully vaccinated yet — my second shot was last Tuesday, so I have another week and a half to go. Retort: Who’s fault is that? My wife, who is Ms. McCook’s age, and I, were fully vaccinated 6 weeks ago. Stay home and stay inside until you’re fully vaccinated if you

We discuss the name of the pROBcast, the things that drive us the most nuts about each other, how we met, the difference between a living room and family room, and why playing cell phone pool with Dawn’s husband has actually led to arguments (and why arguments in relationships are not only healthy, but necessary).See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - What Is That?!?!

I woke up early Sunday morning, stumbled downstairs to our bar fridge to grab a sparkling water and reached into an empty bottom shelf…sans bottled water (or anything else for that matter). There were a couple of bottles left when I went to bed, so this was odd; unless you’re married to my wife. After I headed to bed the night before, my wife stayed up, drank the last two bottles, and headed to bed herself, leaving behind an empty refrigerator…knowing that I start my day with an ice-cold bottle of sparkling water. What is that? Making the quandary more of a conundrum is the fact that there was, only by happenstance, an entire case of Perrier just five feet away from the refrigerator, near the front door, having been brought into the home and left to rest there until it could make its’ way to the pantry. So, in other words, Christina could have literally taken two steps, grabbed a bottle or two of water, taken two steps back and plopped them into the fridge, and insured that there was cold water waiting for me. But alas, no cold water for me. What is that? Lest you think I am in any way suggesting that my wife is inconsiderate or not in tune with, nor passionate about my needs, see yourself out. Far from it. This is just one of the many adorable quirks that makes Christina such a joy and adventure to live with; a favor I am certain that I return to her many times over. She’ll have to get her own soapbox for that. Over the weekend, we recorded that latest episode of the properly titled pROBcast (a podcast hosted by a guy named Rob…get it?), in which you’ll get an earful about all things Robstina (That’s Rob and Christina mashed together…get it?). We touch on some of these “adorable” qualities, and maybe because of that, my subconscious allowed me to wake up ready to identify so many more…things that literally make me say aloud as I identify them…what is that? In other words, how can my incredibly intelligent, highly educated, passionately caring and sometimes doting wife do some of the things that she does? It’s like I’m living a “Family Guy,” skit that always ends with “That’s just Christina!” After laboriously grabbing warm temperature water and heading to the kitchen to pour it over ice, I walked past the dogs’ water bowls only to see they were empty. No problem, I’ll just grab the empty plastic pitcher that we ALWAYS keep on the windowsill of the kitchen sink and use it to give them a refill. Oh, wait…Christina apparently used it to water her plants last night and now Rob gets to play “find the water pitcher,” by trapsing around the house, barely awake at 3:30 because my wife tends to just leave things at whatever spot she’s at when her task is done. What is that? After spending far more time than it would have taken to simply pick up the water bowls and take them to the kitchen sink for a refill, the water pitcher was discovered in the bathroom…where there are no plants. What is that? At this point, I just wanted to slowly wake up as opposed to diving straight into the day so I made my way to the living room sofa and began one of my favorite pastimes at Williams Manor; trying to figure out where my wife may have left the TV remote control. We have a coffee table with a basket that houses the various remotes, yet the basket is always empty. What is that? And so the game begins…Could the remote be wrapped up in the blanket she was using last night? Maybe it’s in the console between sofa seats, of perhaps on one of the dog kennels…nope to all. I know it’s not in the cupholder that I use whenever we’re on the couch together because, like usual, she’s loaded that up with her various garbage from the night before like candy wrappers, tissues, and toothpicks. What is that? Speaking of cupholders, the other one (the one she uses) is, as usual, occupied by a can of Sprite. Sometimes it’s Gatorade or the aforementioned Perrier, but one thing that’s always a constant is that whatever the beverage is…it’s barely drunk. My wife has this need to open a drink, take a few sips, and then leave it sitting out to warm, rot, go flat, and become a waste product. I’ve never kept track but I’m pretty sure we throw out more liquid beverages than we actually consume. What is that? AH! The remote…there it is! On the almost always un-used side of the sofa near the window, as though she ended her evening by turning off the TV and then chucking the remote in the most random direction possible. What is that? Side note…there have been times that I have not found the remote and had to go elsewhere in the home to watch TV until her scrambled egg brain can remember where she left it. I’m pretty sure it was in the oven once. What is that? The oven reminds me of the kitchen again, which makes me smile as I think about Christina’s need to always take her leftovers home from the restaurant which literally NEVER get eaten. I’m pretty sure I understand why she takes them, it’s to make sure

Rob's Soapbox - America Is Not A Racist Country

E

A massive Cultural war erupted last week, yet again, on the topic of race, all because someone of prominence had the audacity to declare that America is not a racist country. There are a few different ways to analyze this; the first being technically.A country is simply a land mass defined as a nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory. The people within that country are capable of doing racist things and even supporting and enacting racist policies, but unless there is 100% agreement and compliance on those programs, it is simply inaccurate and patently unfair to assert that a nation is racist. And certainly, all indications are that Americans, overwhelmingly want to see, as our founding documents demand, all Americans treated equally. The debate centers on the extent to which systems within the country — business, government, law enforcement — reflect biases that disadvantage non-Whites. That’s not the same as the country itself being racist, a position that it seems safe to assume most Americans wouldn’t agree with.Secondly, we must once again, as is far too often the case, remind Americans to stop hating America and casting it as the worst at everything ever. This national self-loathing is a cancer that will destroy us. While nearly impossible to properly calculate or quantify, the level of racism in America is by far no means vastly higher than throughout the world. Anecdotally, we know that European countries continue to tolerate banana peels and monkey chants directed at black soccer players. In terms of data and research, America shines like a beacon, yet that never seems to be reported. A 2019 study on racial discrimination in hiring showed that “France has the highest discrimination rates, followed by Sweden,” and the study found “smaller differences among Great Britain, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, the United States, and Germany.” Meanwhile, the World Values Survey, which has been measuring global attitudes and opinions for decades, asked respondents in more than 80 different countries to identify kinds of people they would not want as neighbors. Some respondents, picking from a list, chose "people of a different race." The more frequently that people in a given country say they don't want neighbors from other races, the researchers reasoned, the less racially tolerant you could call that society. Whether you agree with their methodology or not, the United States had the lowest rate of people saying they wouldn’t want to live near people of a different race, to the tune of less than 5%. Meanwhile, almost all of Europe and India were closer to 50%.https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/soccer-spotlight-europe-grapples-racism-field-n992911https://sociologicalscience.com/articles-v6-18-467/https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2013/05/15/a-fascinating-map-of-the-worlds-most-and-least-racially-tolerant-countries/Which brings us to the third and final technicality we must acknowledge before addressing the statement “America is not a racist country.” Bigotry is a human condition that lives in all of us. Racism is a form of bigotry, although not all bigotry is racist. This is instructive, informative and helpful in an empathetic way if we are to ever move this conversation forward. All of us, every single one, is a bigot, defined as: “A person who is unreasonably prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person on the basis of their membership of a particular group.” Personally, I am a bigot towards obese people, immediately judging them as being lazy and hating themselves. Also, fundamentally “wear it on their sleeve,” religious people; the kind who can’t form one sentence without preaching their gospel to you. And, while not quite the same as bigotry, I also cannot stand people with low self-confidence (this doesn’t quite qualify because it’s more of a personality trait that you can’t identify merely by the color of someone’s skin or the size of their ass but you get the point).Specific to race, America (and the world, but we already covered that) is filled with racists. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that if you’re acknowledging that racism goes in all directions and almost all of us can and have been victims of it, then I’d be willing to dispute the notion that America is not a racist country. As a white man, I’ve been targeted and attacked for the color of my skin by black men on more than one occasion, prominently so since I started dating my African American wife 6 years ago. Christina has dealt with various forms of attacks from other black people because she’s with a white man. That’s still racist, even if it involves people of the same skin color. Just a couple weeks ago, an Asian man intentionally set out to rape a woman solely because she was white, as retribution for the rise in anti-Asian sentiment over the last year. The tension between Hispanics and African Americans is well known and historically long. Jokes about Asian drivers, Black Peop

Rob's Soapbox - The Green New Reality

E

A massive shift towards alternative and renewable energy is coming, and we all need to acknowledge that and shift the argument. For decades, those who have opposed what we currently call “the Climate Movement,” have argued that the Earth is essentially a self-correcting system and that it will adapt to us. Other arguments contend that the Earth has been warming and cooling itself for millions of centuries and it’s simply a cycle that has nothing to do with who or what inhabits it. Some have tried pointing out that computer models are, by their very nature, biased by the data and assumptions that humans choose to enter into them, and still others have tried to be flippant with one-liners like “we can’t even predict tomorrow’s weather correctly, and yet we claim to know what the climate of the Earth will be in 50 years!” https://opr.ca.gov/facts/common-denier-arguments.html “Climate Deniers,” as we now condescendingly call them, have also tried to point out that almost every single dire prophecy that has been predicted about the impending doom of the planet has never come to pass: In 1970, and for the next 15 years, scientists predicted an ice age by the 21st century. In the late 80’s, it shifted to dire warnings about warming, including New York City being underwater by 2019.In 2002, we were told that as a result of human behavior, there would be global famine within ten years. In 2008, NASA said the Arctic would be ice-free by 2018.In that same year, not to be outdone, Former Vice-President Al Gore told us that the Arctic would be ice-free by 2013.2013 hit, and the Arctic was still quite icy and scientists announced that methane would eliminate the Arctic in just 2 years. The US Navy said 3 years. In 2009, Prince Charles foretold that the planet would be destroyed by 2017.https://realclimatescience.com/            All of those predictions and dozens more have obviously been wrong, and every time they are, we are simply told something more dire will be happening at another arbitrary date. However, it is time for the Climate Deniers to admit that they have lost the argument. Public sentiment is, and has been, overwhelming for two decades, and continues to rise with each new birth. Americans and the world believe that humans are destroying the planet, and that we must move away from fossil fuels and into alternative energy; yes, the sun, and the wind. https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2020/06/23/two-thirds-of-americans-think-government-should-do-more-on-climate/ And it isn’t governments that will be making the shift happen. In the wake of President Biden’s announcement last week that he wants to reduce America’s emissions by more than 50% in less than a decade, everyone’s hair caught on fire and people started screaming about the “Green New Deal,” and government overreach putting people out of work and ending entire industries; all over junk science! Screaming and yelling about the government vis a vis Climate Change is like blaming racism on the presence of schools being named after founding fathers who owned slaves. Both are a total waste of time and energy, and do nothing to confront the actual issue. Industries and corporations across the country are shifting their entire business models towards alternative energy because their research has confirmed that the polls on climate change are more than accurate, and ultimately, businesses exist solely to make profit by giving people what they want. Exxon-Mobil, realizing they’re on the endangered species list is shifting towards renewable energy and developing technology to remove carbon from the air, Google has invested $2 billion into solar and wind, and In Fact, more than 80 percent of the world’s top 500 companies have voluntarily began auditing and announcing their environmental impact numbers in an effort to stay in the good graces of not their country’s governments, but their country’s citizens (i.e., customers). https://theonebrief.com/why-environmental-sustainability-is-becoming-big-for-business-2/  No less than General Motors, the current and reigning gold standard amongst American vehicle manufacturers has already said that it would phase out petroleum-powered cars and trucks and sell only vehicles that have zero tailpipe emissions by 2035. In less than 15 years, my Corvette will be both a collector’s item, and a relic! The current leader of the pack, who is proving that this move is inevitable is Tesla. One specific complaint of those who are resistant to the climate movement focuses on electric cars. People argue two main points:If they run on electricity, we’ll need to make more of it, and we can only do that with more coal fired plants which will defeat the purpose.Electric cars are a useless inconvenience unless and until there are as many charging stations in America as there currently are gas stations. Tesla is working on answ

Rob's Soapbox - Random Thoughts (Again)

E

More Ramblings:In the wake of multiple mass shootings (defined as three or more people shot in one incident) the cries for gun control have begun once again. Here’s the problem; universal background checks are common sense to almost all Americans, including gun owners. No one actually wants a known felon, illegal citizen or mental defect to be able to purchase a gun…however, none of the recent mass shootings would have been prevented by universal background checks. In other words, in the wake of human devastation, we propose solutions that wouldn’t have prevented the incidents…thus, when the mass shootings continue after we enact universal background checks, the cries will be “we need to do more!” This is what’s defining the strident and ardent objections to any form of gun control in this nation. Unless and until the argument becomes a conversation, no progress will be madeIf I had a child, the one job I would tell them not to pursue is being a cop. Read into that what you will.More than 90 per cent of Americans now think that marijuana should be legal in some form…can we please end this debate and move on to serious issues? Or do we need to placate the 10% who want to scream about “gateway drug,” and other idiocies? The same people, by type, who would argue otherwise for personal responsibility and freedom of choice vis a vis what people put in their bodies #vaccine https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9484125/Newly-two-three-Americans-legalization-marijuana-survey-finds.htmlWasn’t it about 3 weeks ago the CDC director had a feeling of “impending doom,” regarding Covid? And yet America (other than Michigan) is soaring into recovery and wellness, despite what the media and fear porn mongers tell you. Huh…Speaking of Michigan, can you believe that it’s almost May of 2021 and that state is talking about completely locking down again because of a surge? Are we still doing this? Of course we are! Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer actually said out loud that “this virus can be contained by the simple act of wearing a mask.” HUH???!!! Are we still seriously making this argument after a year of provable data that shows otherwise? Jesus Jumped Up Christ!!! https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/video/full-whitmer-interview-i-m-working-with-a-smaller-set-of-tools-to-fight-covid-110408773937Hypocrisy on display: Former President Trump announced that all U.S. troops would leave Afghanistan on May 1st, 2021. Current President Biden pushed that to the symbolic date of 9/11/21…and suddenly, Republicans who loudly supported Trump’s pronouncement condemn Biden for being reckless and irresponsible. News flash: America will endlessly be at war; it’s what we do. Right or wrong, that’s the truth.Hypocrisy on display part deux: Tens of thousands of “migrants” continue to flood into America, untested for Covid, while half of America remains on various forms of “lockdown and shutdown” orders. Paging Dr Anthony Fauci…Dr. Fauci to the comment room to discuss super-spreader events please…And speaking of Dr Fauci, we got this e-mail last week from a listener named Dennis:Rob,I appreciate the fact that every time Dawn asserts Fauci is just power hungry and that’s why he keeps holding on to restrictions that you offer other alternatives like it could be that he’s genuinely terrified and/or he spent most of his life being a dorky kid and was probably never cool or well liked and now he is this revered guy or whatever…but while it’s always great that you offer other possibilities, what actually is YOUR opinion? Which is it?Well, for starters, I actually dismiss the last one…it’s funny and stereotypical, but as with most stereotypes, there’s no indication it’s true. He was the captain of his high school basketball team, he’s a huge baseball fan, and all indications are that he was pretty popular and he’s always been very well liked. Therefore, I think it’s a hybrid of the other two as follows;I think it’s mostly the middle one…remember this guy Fauci has been preparing for this his entire life. He’s had this job since Ronald Reagan was president, more than 37 years, and the entire time his job has been to be ready for the worst possible virus related scenario he can imagine. He has even suggested as much in multiple interviews prior to 2020.Think about normal humans who have gone through trauma…like a car crash and how they suddenly become scared to death that everyone they love is going to get in one…Imagine your kid went missing for a day and turned out fine…you had an entire day to think the worst possible things, how over-protective would you be afterwards? His entire adult life he’s been told his kid was missing or was going to be only his kid is a global pandemic, so when it hit, like an over-protective parent, he over-reacted and he still is.The hybrid part is that I don’t think he’s power hungry…I think he’s an elitist who believes that people are too stupid to know what he does and that is that this virus is the most deadlies

Rob's Soapbox - I'm Not A Vaxhole

E

A few weeks ago, Urban Dictionary added the word “Vaxhole,” defined as follows: “One who has been fully vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus and brags about it.”https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=vaxhole To be clear, I couldn’t care less if you get the vaccine or not. If you have concerns about possible side effects, or the speed at which with this vaccine was developed and made available, I legitimately respect and will defend that. Additionally, if you have moral objections to at least two of them being developed using aborted fetal cells, I honor your convictions. Even if you’re convinced that getting the vaccine implants some sort of microchip tracking device that allows the government to do whatever it is that you’re convinced they do, I stand by it being your body and your choice. You are not your brother’s keeper and you have absolutely no moral, legal, ethical, or societal obligation to inject something into your body to protect the rest of us. Period. All I ask in return is: can you please show me the same respect? I have no intention of “bragging” about being vaccinated, nor will I be posting my vaccination card online nor appearing in any PSA’s encouraging people to do so. If I was asked to be a spokesperson for getting vaccinated, I would refuse. People who begin conversations with “did you get the shot,” nauseate me. There is absolutely nothing noble, brave, or virtuous about getting the vaccine, despite what doctors, politicians, your friends and family, or the media tell you. However, there’s also nothing wrong with getting it, either. The vaccine seems to be the new mask. Although this time, people seem even angrier if you don’t align with their point of view. As my view evolved over the last few weeks, the vile, loathsome, threatening, and downright rageful emails increased exponentially, as if I had not only betrayed the country, but did so while mowing down peoples’ families. This is where the disconnect comes in. I understood, given the propaganda surrounding masks, why people were angry at those of us who refused to wear them. After all, we were allegedly putting other people at risk by not covering our faces. As stupid as that thinking is and remains, it was and is the common belief amongst most Americans. Who in the hell are my wife and I hurting, harming, or threatening by getting the shot? Quite literally, the answer is…no one! Yet the vitriol is real.Further complicating my ability to understands peoples’ hostility is the fact that we didn’t make the decision by being “coerced” by the government or health officials, which I’ve made clear time and time again. My wife and I couldn’t care less about getting Covid, and have every reason to believe we’ve already had it (though we never were tested despite knowingly being exposed to people who had twice in 2020). There’s one very simple reason we went ahead and got the shot; so that we’re one step closer to resuming life as we like to live it. Period. Countless countries have already publicly announced that travel to their nations will be forbidden without proof of vaccination, and while, like with everything else Covid-related, political lines are being drawn over “vaccine passports,” it is clear that they will be necessary at various places in America for the foreseeable future; in fact, they already are required if you want to attend any sort of event in New York, one of our favorite places to visit. Hawaii has announced that they will implement a “vaccination required” policy later this year, and Christina and I try to visit there at least once every year. More importantly, businesses are struggling with ways to attract the greatest number of people back to their establishments, and with the majority of Americans being terrified of Covid, the ability to say “everyone around you in this place is safe,” is the quickest way for most companies to begin generating recovery revenue. In fact, a bar in Denver announced this week that they now require proof of vaccination if you want to drink inside. It has begun.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9453873/Denver-bar-asking-people-proof-COVID-19-vaccine.htmlhttps://www.travelweekly.com/Hawaii-Travel/Insights/Hawaii-eyes-summer-rollout-of-a-vaccine-passporthttps://www.cntraveller.com/article/covid-vaccine-travel Additionally, while the CDC is taking an agonizingly long time to publicly acknowledge common sense, it’s getting closer by the week. Their totally meaningless “guidance” has progressed as follows:If you’ve been vaccinated, nothing changes, stay homeIf you’ve been vaccinated, you may visit with other vaccinated people while wearing masks, but not unvaccinated peopleIf you’ve been vaccinated, you may visit with other vaccinated people and not wear masks. If you’ve been vaccinated, you may visit with anyone and not wear a mask, but still must wear one in public. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guida

Ep 155Episode 155 - RAD Prodcast - Interview with Shawheen Khorshidian

E

Thank you for tuning in to the RAD Prodcast, Episode 155! Next week is Spring Break, and while you’ll be without a fresh episode of the Prodcast for another week, I wanted to leave off on a positive, uplifting note in this episode. If you’ve been following along with the Prodcast in 2021, you’re aware of the life changes that I have been going through. While divorce, separation and mindfulness of mental health have been a major focus, it has created an open forum of truth. Your truth. My truth. Being able to live in truth has granted access to some amazing connections, encounters and new friendships to occur (as well as fostering relationships with old friends). What’s more is that my situation seems to be resonating with so many people who are either going through similar circumstances or have gone through them in the past. I’m getting all of your messages and emails, and I am eternally grateful for the outpouring of love and support. You all play a role in the healing I am going through now. I wouldn’t want it any other way.It is rare when you meet someone whom you hit it off, right away. Almost like you have known this person in a past life. This very thing happened to me recently, and the individual and the chance meeting at a dog park ended up being instrumental in reminding me that we are all worthy of friendship with good people who want nothing more than to share their energy with you. This individual is a graphic artist, co-host of a brand new podcast centered around astrology, spiritual pioneer, an all around beautiful soul, and owner of an adorable Basenji puppy named BB. Introducing a perfect stranger, Shawheen Khorshidian. If this pandemic has taught me one thing, it is that you are not immune to losing your social skills due to lack of human interaction. I decided to subject Shawheen to being a guest on the Prodcast as part of our first conversation after meeting at a dog park weeks ago. Witness how graceful Shawheen is as I struggle to maintain focus due to my awkwardness.  See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - I Got Nothin'

E

It’s 2pm Sunday afternoon as I start this and I have no idea what to write…it’s not writer’s block as much as it is mental mush…A linear, coherent thought is nowhere in my future today so instead of composing an actual essay, I’m going to bombard you with random crap running through my brain as follows: - Saturday Night Live has truly become one of the worst shows on television. The only reason I still watch it is so that I can publicly complain about how awful it has become. - Am I the only one completely done with Dr. Fauci and his proclamations of what we’ll be “allowed” to do in the months ahead? Today he teased the possibility of baseball games having fans…hey asshole, that’s already a thing. - If I see one more headline about how spring breakers are going to be the cause of a fourth wave of Covid in America while ignoring tens of thousands of Latin American “migrants” crossing the border I’m going to puke. - So, apparently the San Francisco 49ers are done with Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo; as of this writing he’s still a member of the team but the Niners traded up for the draft and have publicly acknowledged they’re going after a quarterback. This should be interesting…do they spend the 2021 season allowing Jimmy G, as a clearly lame duck QB, to lead the team and apply for his next job? Or do they throw a college kid behind center and hope the rest of the talent on that team can lead them back to the super bowl? And what if Jimmy G gets them a championship? Ponder on your own time… - Does anyone even remember the TV show “Hogan’s Heroes?” It was an “old” show when I was a kid but I’ve been re-watching it lately and it’s not only hysterical but fascinating from a historical perspective. The fact that World War II was won largely thanks to an underground network of allied soldiers willfully being imprisoned and supplying endless intelligence to the cause is one that seems so antiquated in today’s selfish age that it’s hard to fathom. - George Carlin was the greatest stand-up comedian of all-time. That is all - Did you see Brandon’s Instagram post on Saturday? (@not_strangled_bacon)…The one of just him with his sunglasses on and his mumbo-jumbo message? That’s the Brandon I love; he’s back! He looks amazing and is rediscovering himself in ways that make me so happy. - My wife, Christina, and I, went out to dinner with friends Friday night at a super-spreader restaurant that we love and I discussed the fact that, given the choice, I prefer the company of black people. Now, it so happens I was the only white person at the table, but as I shared with my fellow diners, in my experience, black people are the most emotionally authentic people I have ever encountered, as a rule. They let you know how they feel instantly, and without worry or concern of judgment; which is ironic considering their history within this nation. What’s troubling to me is that so much of what I just wrote is dripping in modern day racism. Can you imagine if I had said that I hate being around black people? Or what if someone said they only like being with white people? Cancel culture bring it on…we aren’t allowed to speak our truths and that’s going to be the end of us. - Can everyone stop asking why an American “needs” so many guns? To be candid, the answer is that I don’t have any God damned idea why anyone needs more than a couple hand guns for personal protection. Outside of hunting rifles and gun collectors the idea of having many guns makes absolutely no sense to me. If we find ourselves in a situation that my wife, a 12-year army veteran who served in Afghanistan, my dogs, and I, along with the very few guns we have can’t defend ourselves, than we’ve arrived in a world I no longer want to live in. But that’s me…leave everyone alone for God’s sake. No, I can’t tell you why anyone should feel that they need to own a dozen or more guns for personal protection but I don’t have to answer that question and you shouldn’t be asking it. - Yes, Asian-American hate crimes are on the rise…no, there is absolutely no evidence at all, whatsoever that the Atlanta massacre had anything to do with race. Stop it immediately. - News from the future…Jesus will not be showing up this Sunday. - You may not be paying attention to the level of knowing that the George Floyd murder trial is underway. Here’s another prediction…Derek Chauvin is not going to be found guilty of murder, and that means that no matter what he is or isn’t found guilty of, this country is going to burn…again. Get your plywood ready. - Deborah Birx…remember her? She was scarf-face standing next to Fauci for all of 2020…she made a colossal fool of herself this weekend by claiming that the overwhelming majority of American deaths from Covid could have been prevented if more states would have locked down tighter and sooner. That, of course, defies all logic and history and ignores the devastating effects of the lockdowns
