Rob's Soapbox - O.J. Walked Too

If you’ve spent any time listening to me, you know that I don’t suffer ignorance gladly, and perhaps only when it is combined with arrogance does it become more reprehensible. A confident person is able to form an opinion, calmly make a case for it using facts, logic, and reason, and listen intently to those who are willing and interested in doing the same. An arrogant person forms an opinion first and then seeks out those who agree with his conclusion to bolster his claims, without ever checking the veracity of what he’s being told or considering the motives of the speaker he has sought for validation. From there, armed with only the information he wants to believe, and with no interest or desire in hearing alternative views, he loudly repeats whatever surface-level talking points he can remember, and then quickly tries to demean or personally attack anyone who suggests there might be more to consider. It is the latter group that populates, permeates, and for the most part, dominates society today, and certainly, this group controls entirely both sides of the media and social media as well. Both sides of the political and social aisle have adopted the same tactics; find out first what their tribe thinks, and then formulate whatever story you have to in order to defend the thinking of your tribe. Using the same person as the obvious example would be as follows: If Donald Trump said it, then, as far as the right tribe is concerned it is true and/or it should be, so we shall support it. Meanwhile, the far left tribe is immediately certain that it is both a lie and it is dangerous and must be objected to. Clearly, this is ludicrous. Trump said and did a lot of great things, while also saying and doing a lot of very stupid and wrong things. At this point, I have lost 90% of you, and that’s the problem. The idea that I suggested that Trump did anything well, made half of you laugh and scoff, and the idea that I posited his mistakes and blunders means I have no idea what I am talking about…and neither side has any interest in actually hearing the answer to the question “like what?” Some might scream it, but when an answer is presented, it is met with derision, personal attacks, and accusations that factual statements are lies. This is playing out before our eyes in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, a man who is, depending on your tribe, either a racist, white supremacist, far-right extremist murderer, or an altruistic young man that we need more of in America who was just trying to help his community and, in the process was attacked and became the victim who ultimately prevailed through self-defense. Neither is close to true, and nobody cares. As the trial of Rittenhouse comes to a close, an endless parade of morons bombard the airwaves and social media with half-truths and provably untrue “explanations” as to why the trial is, or isn’t going their tribe’s way. My current favorites are pro-Rittenhouse people who offer up one sentence hot takes like… “looks like he’s going to walk…what do you say now?” Right behind them are anti-Rittenhouse folks who have formed a conspiracy theory cocoon around themselves by making the judge the villain, and a racist himself. Of course, most of the people offering up these opinions and explanations have not actually watched the trial nor read the transcripts, they’re just repeating what Tucker Carlson or the ladies from “The View,” tell them is happening. I, on the other hand, have watched AND read every single minute, not just from the trial, but also, all of the pre-trial motions and decisions, and have absolutely no doubt about the events that transpired last summer, who is at fault, who is to blame, and what the legal ramifications will and should be. I am also blessed to have a deep understanding of how the law works, and a calm acceptance that the American justice system, like the nation itself, is the greatest on Earth, while also being far from perfect. Rittenhouse was allowed by the judge to present a case of self-defense, which, under Wisconsin law, means that the prosecution must show either that he did not fear for his life (impossible under the circumstances) or that he provoked the attacks which led him to have to defend himself. The latter was the obvious path, and the prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger, botched it entirely. Binger, for the record, is the worst prosecutor I have ever seen in my life. Atrocious does not begin to properly describe how bad he is at his job, based on this trial. https://courses.lumenlearning.com/suny-criminallaw/chapter/5-2-self-defense/ It should have been quite easy to show that Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time, had absolutely no business being in Kenosha in the wake of the Jacob Blake riots, other than to incite, provoke, and, if he was lucky, maybe kill a few people. It was proven under oath, contrary to the narrative we’ve been told, that h

Rob's Soapbox - Privilege? Ignorance? Racism? All of the above?

E

It’s amazing how just one word can take a seemingly innocent question and turn it into, at best, an ignorant position of privilege, and at worst, complete and total racism. In the aftermath of NFL Wide Receiver Henry Ruggs killing a woman and her dog while driving drunk in the early morning hours along the streets of Las Vegas at speeds as high as 156 MPH, a listener sent an email asking the following:“After reading about Ruggs a couple days ago, and listening to what you reported to us all…it saddens me that the NFL doesn’t have professionals trained to work with these young…men coming into the NFL…could the lives of this girl and her dog have been saved if there was some sort of guidance given to Henry?”In and of itself, it’s an innocuous question and a good one. The truth of the matter is, that the NFL does, and has for decades, held days-long orientations for rookies entering the league and recently, expanded their program to start mentoring college football players. The potential superstars are taught money management, the trappings of fame, how to stay out of trouble, and given the roadmap to prosperity, all of which is commendable considering so many of the young men who wind up in the NFL find themselves, suddenly, at the age 20-ish, millionaires. https://nflcommunications.com/Pages/NFL-Announces-Expanded-Rookie-Transition-Program.aspxhttps://frontofficesports.com/nfl-college-rookie-transition/ Sadly, no amount of “education,” will prevent the inevitability of life, as we see with our own eyes daily. Had that been the end of the email, there’d be no story here, and no soapbox. Sadly, that wasn’t what the email said. Rather it read as follows in its entirety:“After reading about Ruggs a couple days ago, and listening to what you reported to us all today, It saddens me that the NFL doesn’t have professionals trained to work with these young black men coming into the NFL. Maybe I’m wrong and there is, but if not could the lives of this girl and her dog have been saved if there was some sort of guidance given to Henry? Her family and all that were involved in the accident are grieving. I don’t know much about Henry or how his upbringing was, I just wonder if all this could have been avoided if there were things put in place to help men like Ruggs who recently signed million dollar plus contracts.”  To put it kindly: What the F%*K you say?Full disclosure; I’m married to a black woman and freely admit that issues of race are a hot button for me. In fact, the RAD Radio show got this email on Thursday, and I intentionally ignored it to give myself time to ruminate on it and make sure I wasn’t overreacting to it. By Sunday morning, I woke up more pissed than when I first read it.Clearly, based on the insertion of the word “black,” white and Hispanic young men coming into the NFL don’t need any training or guidance because they already have all of the skills needed to “life” in a legal, responsible manner. Just ask Ben Roethlisberger, Ryan Leaf, Aaron Hernandez, Jared Allen, Sebastian Janikowski, Richie Incognito, Matt Prater, Mark Chmura, Barrett Robbins, Todd Sauerbrun, Eric Naposki, and dozens of other non-black NFL players who have beaten their significant others, driven drunk, had sex with underage babysitters, assaulted, sexually assaulted, and even murdered people.https://bleacherreport.com/articles/719049-the-nfl-all-arrest-all-pro-teamhttps://www.business2community.com/sports/27-active-nfl-players-who-have-been-arrested-multiple-times-01325152 Yet clearly, we need to train and guide only the ignorant and already inherently dangerous black boys. Lovely.Approximately 70% of NFL players are African American, yet, despite all of the attention that comes with it, the arrest rate for NFL players is lower than the standard arrest rate for the entire American population. That’s odd; you’d think a league dominated by hoodlums with brown skin would be setting the curve. http://www.nflarrest.com/It's easy and lazy to say that the letter writer is just naïve and/or that he didn’t mean anything by it. If he didn’t mean anything by it, he wouldn’t have inserted the word “black” into his email. While it’s true that he may be so misinformed that he can only think of black NFL players that he’s heard of that have gotten in trouble, the fact that he then deduces and implies that only black players get in trouble or, put another way all young black men are trouble is nothing short of racist. Not to mention the very end of his email; having already established that he’s only concerned about young black men coming into the league, his solution is to “put something in place to help men like Ruggs who recently signed million dollar plus contracts.” Like, for example; this year the first two draft picks in the NFL were Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson, who received $24 and $22 million each, respectively in signing bonuses. They’re both 22 and white so they’re of no concern. But, uh-oh…That dastardly third p

Rob's Soapbox - Pot Stickers, Anyone?

E

The short answers to your questions are: Yes, you should be terrified and no, there isn’t anything you can do about it.I’ve spoken and written many times about the book entitled “2034,” authored by two veterans, including an Admiral, which spells out in chillingly realistic ways, how World War III will come to pass at the hands of China’s meticulous planning, plotting, and execution. I’ve read the book twice, and while some of its’ plot twists, particularly as it relates to how the war plays out, are questionable, it should be required reading for every American. In fact, the only problem I have with the book is its’ title. 2034 seems unrealistically far away for such a scenario to occur. Perhaps 2028 or 2026 would be a more likely timeline.I’ve said for decades that the ignorance, arrogance, and apathy of Americans will be what ends our reign as the greatest nation on Earth and it is playing out before our very eyes right now. We, the American people, not our alleged “leaders,” are to blame for the terrifying reality we now live in. And let’s start with that; the overwhelming majority of Americans have no idea what is happening, and if you were to tell them most would wave their hand dismissively and say something arrogantly ignorant like “Eh, those (insert racial slur here) ain’t nothing compared to us. We’ll just Hiroshima them and it will all be over.” After decades of literally financing China by insisting on buying almost everything we own from them, China is close to its’ generations-long plan of becoming the world’s newest, and only, superpower. To be clear, I’m not talking about China owning America’s debt, because that is a fallacy repeated by dumbasses. Of the $28 trillion America is in debt, $22 trillion of it is owned by us, the American people. We’ve only received $6 trillion from foreign countries, and China isn’t even the largest holder of the debt of the United States, Japan is. I’m speaking specifically of us; the American consumer, and our needs and insistence on owning the best of the best at the lowest possible price, all of which comes from China, either directly or indirectly. https://www.thebalance.com/who-owns-the-u-s-national-debt-3306124 If they aren’t literally manufacturing the product you’re buying in Mainland China, they are providing the chips, parts, and internal infrastructure needed to make almost everything you own. Yes, even if it says “Made in the USA,” it almost certainly has China’s fingerprints all over it. The old joke about Chinese goods being of low quality is long since untrue, and even people who try to claim that “no, everything isn’t made in China,” can’t make believable arguments. In fact, China has launched a national policy to become the world’s supplier of almost everything by 2025…and there’s no indication that they will fail. https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/made-china-2025-threat-global-tradeBear in mind that no company exists independently in China; all forms of commerce there exist to fund the Communist Party that controls the country. As more of the world has outsourced almost all of its needs to China, we have created an economic behemoth that has plunged hundreds of billions of dollars into defense spending…and that’s just what they admit to. Many estimates claim that China is actually spending as much as the United States on their military, and just lying to the world about it. Whatever they’re doing, they’re doing it well, as the world has seen the last few weeks. To be crystal clear; China is not some thriving, hyper-successful economic titan; quite the opposite, which is what makes them so dangerous. They are teetering on the brink and have learned from history that pre-emptive offenses often win the day. It’s beyond obvious that they are preparing for something and that we have no idea what, exactly, it is, or what we’ll do about it.China has solidified a rock-solid alliance with Russia and Iran and all indications are that Pakistan is next. That’s a terrifying axis of evil armed to the teeth. It is no secret that America’s largest corporations and institutions are being hacked at will by China, and last week it was confirmed that China recently tested a hypersonic weapon system we had no idea they were so far along with in terms of development and deployment. While the U.S. already possesses hypersonic weapons, China is kicking our ass in space, deploying endless satellites designed specifically to knock out all of our abilities to monitor and launch counter-offensives in the event of an attack. And all of this is what we’re being told we know…imagine what the U.S. government isn’t telling us, and worse, imagine what they themselves don’t know. The most likely next course of action is China invading Taiwan and daring the world, most notably the U.S. to do something about it. From there, who knows? Perhaps China unleashes its’ massive and deadly submarine fleet; a force so powerful we don’t even know how many subs they have nor how close t

Ep 175Episode 175 - RAD Prodcast - A Haunting at Von Zeplin Manor with SPIRIT & Sircles - Part 1

E

This week marks the 4 year anniversary for the RAD Prodcast. Thank you for all of your support in what seems to be a companion piece to my life in many ways. With all of the ups and downs that have occurred in the last 4 years, I can honestly call the Prodcast a mainstay in my evolution as a human but also as a broadcaster. It’s because of the amazing team I’m surrounded by that I’m even able to do what I do today, but I would be remiss if I did not recognize all of the love and support that you have provided as this platform has been a raw glimpse at my evolution. I will forever be grateful for the moments of growth and evolution you’ve shared with me, and by sharing pieces of myself through these now 175 episodes of the Prodcast, I’m grateful for the opportunity to have helped someone in some way. Even if that means a moment of positivity or a light to guide you of a dark place. In honor of this momentous occasion, I’ve embarked on an ambitious journey with Erik Carlson, the Sircles Squad Manager and my friends and family at Sac SPIRIT to bring to you a 3-episode event. Rennzo Von Zeplin is a hair stylist/barber in the Sacramento region, and is the owner and operator of Von Zeplin Ultra Salon in Rancho CordovaErik Carlson, who I mentioned is the Sircles Squad Manager               Just as a reminder, Sircles (with an S) provides a fun and intuitive way to find the entertainment and places your friends love– Squad Manager, connected with Von Zeplin on a Sircles scouting mission and a mysterious opportunity arose. You cand download the app from your app store by searching for Sircles (with an S) or by visiting Sircles.com that’s S-I-R-C-L-E-S.comThis mystery turned out to be a massive opportunity to collaborate with the Sacramento Paranormal Intuitive Research Investigation Team (AKA SacSpirit at SacSpirit.com) to investigate the paranormal activity occurring at Rennzo Residence, Von Zeplin Manor, which happens to be a 105-year-old house nestled in the foothills of California, right in the epicenter of California history that helped shape the country we live in today.Melissa & Brent, paranormal investigators and now newlyweds, from SacSPIRIT.com were enlisted to help get some answers to the paranormal activity at Von Zeplin Manor and that investigation will be covered in the following two episodes. The RAD Prodcast presents … A Haunting At Von Zeplin Manor with SacSPIRIT and SirclesPart 1 – I team up with Brent from SPIRIT along with Erik from Sircles to meet Rennzo at Von Zeplin Ultra Salon to get to know Rennzo and also discuss the paranormal activity that has been taking place at Von Zeplin Manor. We also discuss how this house may have been trying to interfere with our team’s ability to actually allow the investigation to take place. After some initial research is unearthed, the mystery only gets deeper.  See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - Everything We Missed

E

I was torn this week…on one hand, so many of you depend on RAD radio to stay informed; that responsibility falls on me. I’m the “news watcher,” of the show and it’s my job to keep up with all that’s going on, decide what matters to most, and then translate it into something interesting and relatable. Sadly, one of the roles of the show is to also sift through the misreporting of both the mainstream and conservative media and bring you the actual truth of any given story as well! And there’s been a ton of news over the last 10 days that needed such attention. On the other hand, it’s also the show’s role to offer an escape through humor, silliness, and real-life, day-to-day topics that don’t show up in or on the news, but rather come up on a regular basis in the homes of our listeners.I’ve always said that we talk about what you’re already interested in, or the things that will interest you once you know about them. Whether such things are positive or negative is not relevant…if it’s something that can, does, is, or will be of impact on your life, either in a good or bad way, we need to discuss it.The most obvious things I choose to touch on are the unavoidable, whether it be for salacious or obvious reasons. Alec Baldwin killing a director on the set of his new movie is a great example. Everyone woke up Friday morning to that news and all of the unknowns made it an unavoidable story. On the other end of the spectrum was the “bomb cyclone,” bearing down on the western part of America and the potential to bring feet of rain and snow, along with flooding, landslides, and endless road closures. Lots of people would either not hear about that or not take it seriously unless we mentioned it, and we had obligation to do so, just so everyone could either prepare or ignore. At the end of every week, I have piles of stories that I had prepared to discuss and we simply never got to. In most cases, they’re timeless things that I can save for later…things like “the best store-bought cookie brands,” and “the most memorable advertising jingles of all-time,” and so I just slide them into my “stuff for slow days” folder, and move along. This week and weekend were different. There is so much going on that people are talking about, need to be aware of, updated on, have vetted, or simply have in the back of their minds that we didn’t get to. So, I decided to call an audible and use this week’s soapbox to at least get on the record a multitude of stories, with some minor commentary, that you may have missed, wondered about, or needed some perspective on…so here goes:GAS PRICES: Yes, they’re still soaring and there’s no end in sight, and yes, in a remote part of Southern California known as Gorda, they’re currently paying over $7.50 a gallon for regular unleaded. This week, President Grandpa himself admitted he sees no relief until well into 2022, a very reassuring message from the one man who could influence the market and immediately lower prices by allowing America to reclaim its place as the world’s number one producer of oil, as we were just a year ago. President Orange made a lot of mistakes, but Grandpa seems to only make mistakes and America’s inflation and out-of-control fuel costs are squarely on him. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10117649/California-town-sees-gas-hit-alarming-7-59-gallon-4-higher-average.html SUPPLY CHAIN: Speaking of that, experts now say that America’s supply chain crisis is the worst since World War II when submarines were literally sinking commercial traders. The shortage of supplies has already led to toys increasing in price by as much as 400% while food, if you can find what you’re looking for, continues to soar in price daily…again, just like the fuel costs, with no end in sight. Over the next many months expect it to become harder and harder to find the following: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10109363/Supply-chain-crisis-unseen-WWII-bring-disaster-Christmas-Resellers-jack-prices.html Carbonated beverages due to a CO2 shortageChicken due to demand outpacing supplyCoffee due to Brazil’s drought and internal strife as Brazil is the world’s largest coffee supplierFish Sticks due to shipping delays and container shortagesAll frozen meals due to panic buying when the dreaded Delta Variant hit, and now supplies can’t keep upSpices and seasonings due to shortagesRice Krispy treats due to a strike at Kellogg’s and various shortagesSour Patch kids due to a strain in the supply chain           And of course…           Toilet paper because we’re stupid. Apparently the one thing American’s draw the line at is having a dirty butt. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2021/10/15/grocery-shortage-toilet-paper-coffee-chicken-hard-find/8455259002/PRICES: Meanwhile, everything you need to maintain your hygiene and beauty is soaring in price thanks to all of the usual explan

Rob's Soapbox - Your Team Sucks

E

It’s that glorious time of the year when all four major sports leagues are playing. With the NFL just 30% of the way into its’ season, both the NBA and NHL just getting started, and Major League Baseball about to crown a champion, it seems an appropriate time to point out that your team sucks. Not your sports team, your other team, if you have one, and it’s getting harder and harder to find people that don’t.As I was discussing last week, I love sports but hate most sports fans. The idea that people literally equate their identity to the success and failure of a group of humans they’ve never met and wouldn’t know you from Adam is so infantile and brazenly pathetic it should be studied much deeper at institutions across the country. Sports should merely be seen as a form of entertainment similar to movies and shows. Sure, if they suck, we walk away annoyed or disappointed, but sane people let it go quickly. Letting the outcome of a game determine your mood for the next many days, if not weeks, is clearly demented, not to mention the behavior of a child. There is supposed to come a time in your human development when you learn that pouting is neither an option nor a solution. This brings us to your other team and the even bigger problem. That team’s season never ends, which is why people never have a chance to just step away from blindly supporting whatever their team is up to. This team, also, is a group of humans that you’ve never met and wouldn’t know you. Worse, they don’t even care about you. At least most professional athletes appreciate the fans en masse. They understand that you’re rooting for them, buying merchandise with their names on it, and in many cases, feeding them energy with loud, in-person support. Your other team literally doesn’t care that you even exist other than to use you. Your wants, needs, and desires are of absolutely no concern to them at all whatsoever. This team even goes so far as to make you promises that they have no intention of keeping. They lie to you constantly, hide everything they can from you, and steal from you. Yes, they steal from you, and yet, you continue to not only support them, but you also loudly scream on their behalf, sometimes violently, and depending on just how invested you are, you even give them your money (the money they haven’t already stolen from you).I’m talking, of course, about your political team. It sucks. Whether it’s team R or team D,  your team is all of the things I just described. Oh, and a quick aside; those of you who try to be cute and separate yourself from political parties by saying instead that you’re either conservative or progressive, you too, are all of the things described and one other big one which says more about you than it does about them; you’re all enormous hypocrites. This is a problem because too many people (more today than ever before in my lifetime) scream that their team is the solution, and the opposing team is the problem. And yet, both of these political movements abandon what are supposed to be their core principles at the drop of a hat as long as the outcome suits them. That is what we call being unethical, and yet people look the other way when their team does it, which they do constantly, and that, in turn, makes them unethical as well. And they don’t seem to care, as long as their side wins. Now we’ve gone from unethical to unscrupulous. Sociopathic and psychotic are the only two steps left on the ladder down to complete and total cretin. For example, last week a 16-year-old girl knowingly violated the rules of her high school, repeatedly and intentionally. This form of blatant flouting of the rules, and questioning of authority is the type of behavior consistently condemned by team R. After all, they’re the law-and-order party. And yet, this girl became the conservative hero of the week. You see, just like with Kyle Rittenhouse, law and order only apply now to team R, when it’s being used to uphold something that they agree with. So, Grace Smith was hailed as brave and strong for intentionally getting suspended for not wearing a mask to school. Since team R is against mask mandates, the ends justify the means, which is the thought process of a true intellectual coward. As an aside, it was also misreported endlessly that she was arrested for not wearing a mask. She was arrested, but for trespassing, after she was told to leave school grounds after being suspended and refusing to do so. But the truth isn’t important when we’re trying to win. https://www.foxnews.com/us/wyoming-girl-suspended-arrested-trespassing-mask-mandatehttps://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/07/05/kyle-rittenhouse-american-vigilante Speaking of such policies, team D has, for decades, preached the slogan “my body, my choice.” It applies most notably to their support of legalized abortion, but also to the issue of consent, gender identification, and something called “body integrity.” But as far as team D is concerned, it is no longer y

Rob's Soapbox - Vaccinated Vegan Cross-Fitters

E

Vaccinated people are the worst. And I say this as a vaccinated person…any chance I can have the juice removed? The old joke is that a vegan, a cross-fitter, and an atheist walk into a bar…how do you know who’s who?...wait 5 seconds they’ll all tell you…because they can’t help themselves from bragging about how great they are. Covid Vaccinated people have jumped that line and become even more annoying as if anyone thought that was possible.Never mind the social media posts of idiots bragging that they got the shot or posting their vax cards….that’s nothing compared to the outlandish, idiotic, and uneducated attitudes of the vaxxed. To be clear, my wife and I got the jab for a couple of simple reasons; we saw what was coming as it relates to mandates, and after 12 years in the army, believe it or not, I’m not the most concerning thing that has been injected into my wife, and that’s saying something. So, we decided to take the plunge together…I mean seriously, if you’re married and can’t agree on getting the same thing put into your bodies, why are you married? We didn’t get the vaccine because either one of us is concerned about the dreaded virus. As it stands right now, as of the CDC report Friday, October 8, 2021, if you’re under the age of 70, you have a 99.95% likelihood of survival if you contract covid, vaccinated or not. These are facts, as reported by the government that few people trust these days, so do the math. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/investigations-discovery/hospitalization-death-by-age.htmlAnd I admit that it was, in fact, liberating for a moment, especially a month after we got jabbed when the CDC said that vaccinated people could rip off their masks in perpetuity! How liberating! No more face coverings (which, for the record, my wife and I weren’t wearing anyway, but that’s for another time…)And then…nope. We’re going to literally make up junk science as we go and say that vaccinated people need to wear masks.Wait…what? If the vaccine works (and it does), why do I need to wear a mask? If I get a breakthrough case (as will happen with 1% of all vaccinated people for all diseases on average) almost nothing will happen to me. In fact, there’s a .0003% chance I’ll wind up in the hospital if I even contract Covid after vaccination. To put that in perspective, your chance of dying from a lightning strike is .0007 percent, and your chance of dying from a seasonal flu is 0.1 percent. If you’re vaccinated, you have a much greater chance of dying from a hornet, wasp or bee string, a dog attack, a car crash, drowning, sunstroke, or choking on food than you do of dying from covid-19. So why are you telling me to wear a mask? To protect other people? Put bluntly…fuck them. They have access to the vaccine, if they choose not to get it, that’s on them, not to mention that vaccinated people don’t carry the same viral load as the unvaccinated if we do get infected, and oh, let’s not gloss over the fact that masks are meaningless, as professed and admitted to by no less than Dr. Michael Osterholm. https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-251-viral/fact-check-study-did-not-find-vaccinated-healthcare-workers-carry-251-times-the-viral-load-of-those-who-were-unvaccinated-idUSL1N2PX1HHhttps://www.cnn.com/2021/07/31/health/fully-vaccinated-people-breakthrough-hospitalization-death/index.html#:~:text=Tech-,About%2099.999%25%20of%20fully%20vaccinated%20Americans%20have%20not%20had%20a,breakthrough%20case%2C%20CDC%20data%20shows https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-vaccine/news/20210702/study-says-vaccinated-people-who-get-covid-carry-less-virusUnless you’re wearing an N-95 mask (which fewer than 10% of Americans are) you’re not doing a damn thing to protect yourself or anyone else. Sorry kids, but you can’t scream “SCIENCE,” and then only follow the science that you like. https://www.foxnews.com/media/biden-covid-adviser-americans-need-to-wear-n95-maskshttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9914969/Popular-blue-surgical-face-masks-NOT-stop-people-infected-COVID-19.htmlhttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9858577/Former-Biden-COVID-adviser-says-cloth-masks-ineffective-preferring-N95-mask.html  But, I digress…Let’s go back to the beginning…most people who got the vaccine early on, did so to protect themselves…and, without a doubt, the vaccine works. I can’t deal with those of you who claim it doesn’t, you’re beyond helpable…those of you who remain hesitant because you’re uneasy or unsure about the “newness” of the vaccine, I sympathize with. You’re completely misinformed, uneducated, and beyond stupid, but I still sympathize. After all, you’ve been lied to by plenty of people and you’re clearly incapable of doing your own research to prove that the vaccine itself has been in development since 2003. https://portal.ct.gov/-/media/Coronavirus/Community_Resources/Vaccinations/Print-Materials/Fact-Sheets/Development_English.pdf Those of you who argue the “long term ef

Rob's Soapbox - Everything Isn't Covid

E

To paraphrase Anne Hathaway’s character in “The Dark Knight Rises,” “There’s a storm coming…and you better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you’re all gonna wonder how we were so stupid as to have created this next great self-inflicted mess.” See, I told you? Paraphrased, liberties taken. After all of the insane stories we’ve heard about children with sniffles being sent home from school and adults from work, and being told not to come back without negative Covid test results, I suppose nothing should surprise me. After hearing about countless friends and their relatives who have previously known medical conditions, long before Covid, which attack the respiratory system, still being told that they were presumed positive for Covid after negative test results, I suppose I should have been better prepared. But when it actually happens to you, it does have more of an impact. While we can’t prove it, the RAD show is convinced, as are some of our doctors in hindsight, that we were on the front lines of Covid in early January, of 2020. Over the course of much of the month, we passed around an illness amongst the show that decimated Dawn for a week, kept gnawing at Brandon’s throat and lungs, and gave me 4 straight days of never-ending headaches and fatigue. At the time, we merely called it “the ick,” only to find out by June, that between us, we each had all of the potential symptoms of what was, by then, known as Covid-19. I’ve got a bad feeling we’re about to do this to ourselves all over again. Only this time, the price could be much higher and the suffering even greater if we don’t make some serious adjustments, which we all know we won’t. My week started Monday morning at 2AM with a scratchy throat; nothing at all serious, but worrisome enough that with Dawn having a medical procedure scheduled for Friday, I had an obligation to ensure that I hadn’t caught a breakthrough case of Covid, which if she got, would cancel her surgery. Six hours later, I felt like absolute hell. Still with the sore throat, now a headache added in, and total fatigue. By noon, my wife Christina was feeling crappy, but with totally different symptoms, including nausea, which I never had. Eventually, she started having bouts of dizziness, while I introduced some lovely intestinal problems into the mix. Over the next four days, she improved quicker than I did, but we both spent more time sleeping than we probably have all year combined. At no time did either of us have any sort of respiratory or congestion issues (this is important to the story). Oh, and we both tested negative to Covid…multiple times. But guess what? We had Covid. At least, that’s what every god-damned single person on the planet kept telling me. Let me ask you a few things: If the tests are that unreliable, why are we even using them? If we’re just going to self-assert and demand that everyone and anyone who gets at all sick in 2021 has Covid, why don’t we all just walk around saying that we’re Covid positive all of the god-damned time? If the number one, main symptom, that is consistent throughout all cases of Covid are respiratory issues (thus the ventilators being used in hospitals), and that’s the one and only symptom neither of us had, then how in the hell did we have Covid? If we’ve both been vaccinated, (and we have), if we’re both otherwise healthy, (and we are), if we both rarely if ever get sick at all, (and we don’t), and if breakthrough cases are mild, why are we still presumed to have had Covid when this is as sick as either of us has been in as long as we can remember? Could it be possibly…that….wait for it…we didn’t fucking have Covid? And that maybe everyone should stop telling us that we did and start to prepare for the next big thing, whatever this may be? Because we’re all looking the wrong way, and it’s going to start costing people a lot more than merely a week off of work. To be clear…we were sick, period. I realize that getting sick in America is now a fate worse than death that we’re all terrified of, but that’s what it was. Being sick. At least that’s what it was for us…but given our otherwise good health, her youth, and our proclivity to bounce back quicker than most, whatever we had is something to be reckoned with and taken seriously. But here’s the thing; no one will help you do so, because they’re all terrified of Covid. Even if you’ve tested negative, most doctor’s offices won’t see you in person, and most Urgent Care places and hospitals will send you to a special department to get yet another Covid test before speaking with you, despite you feeling like you want to die (and having no business driving yourself around anyway). And then, in the end, they’ll tell you, no matter how many times that you’ve been tested, that they’re going to presume it’s Covid, and that you should stay home and rest and let them know if you start to have trouble breathing. Only towa

Rob's Soapbox - Labradors Are Enablers

In my first 44 years of life, I never understood people who loved Labrador Retrievers…for starters, they’re the basic bitch dog, everyone has one, especially black labs.Plus, they’re dumb. Studies say that they are smart, but they’re not. They walk into walls, forget your commands, and constantly do the opposite of what they’re told. Hunters tell me that they’re great at doing their job of retrieving, most notably ducks, but that’s a pretty narrow field of expertise that don’t impress me much. And then came Scout.Well, technically first came, my wife Christina, who happened to have a black lab named Scout. At the time we met, the irony was palpable; my German Shepherd, Shep, had passed away and my newest, Maestro, wasn’t born yet so I had only Nellie, my all-white GSD. So here we were…me, white as snow, with my white dog, and my now wife, Christina, milk chocolate “black” with her lab. White guy, white dog, black chick, black dog. Get it?Anywho…I stole Scout from her. More accurately, he stole me. From the moment I met him, all of my rigid dog rules went out the window. I didn’t care that he got up onto the sofa or the bed and I certainly understood why he got random treats throughout the day like bacon, potato chips, and steak for no reason. There was a reason…he was Scout.Meanwhile, poor Maestro was in boot camp and on lockdown, being taught that there is only one way to be a dog, and that is the hardcore German Shepherd way. Fortunately for him, Christina agreed to marry me and she labbed-up my Shepherd. He’s the most lovable, adorable 105-pound killing machine I’ve ever met, and that’s all on her (the lovable part…I made him a killing machine…well, me and Hitler). For the first year of our relationship, Christina and I lived 1700 miles apart; her in Dallas, me in Sacramento. We would visit each other whenever we could, and to be completely candid, I’m not sure if I was more excited to see her or Scout…okay, that’s a little ridiculous, but that damn dog was probably the reason I asked her to marry me…I wasn’t letting him go.Ok, ok, ok…I love my wife more than anything and I’d kill anyone who even came close to looking at her sideways…but still, I love that dog. Over the past 6 years, Scout has taught me to loosen up, break the rules, and embrace being lazy. As I type this, he is asleep on the guest room bed, where he has been for hours, since I took a nap there after coming home from the grocery store. I was up before the sun, fed the dogs, went to the store, and came home exhausted (or with mono, I’m not sure yet) so I plopped my ass into our guest room bed and took a nap…and guess who joined me? Yup…Scout the lab. He’s still there, even though I left hours ago…well, that’s not technically true…I was just there 20 minutes ago and an hour ago for only one reason; he’s there. Who can resist a slumbering Labrador and his 90 pounds of dead weight just begging you to manipulate him into your arms? Only a psycho, that’s who.And that’s the point…I have so much to do, yet all I can think about is curling up in that bed with that damn Labrador in my arms. He’s an enabler! And he’s relentless…he stays there, happy and comfortable, daring me to join him, knowing that I am the one losing if I don’t. What kind of madness is this?!?!?By the way, he’s not dumb at all; he’s actually the ultimate manipulator. He runs this house, and we all know it, including Maestro. Scout knows his commands, he just chooses when to obey them, and of course, when people come over he’s the most loving, perfect dog ever…more manipulation. Everyone loves the little asshole.Granted, some of this is somewhat melancholy as we’ve had a rough week and a half with our boy, starting with a massive vomit-fest of blood late Thursday night a week ago. So, yes, if you thought my birthday show on 9/17 sucked, it was my fault, I hadn’t slept and I thought my wife’s Labrador was dying…I mean, puking blood is kinda serious.Fortunately, $1200 and a night later we knew absolutely nothing! How fun…no causes found, just take him home and care for him, which we did. 10 days later, he’s turned the corner and is back to himself; lazy, lovable, fat and perpetually hungry. Just the way we want him. I don’t think I ever seriously thought we were losing him, but God knows I was gearing up for the worst pain of my wife’s life and how I would manage it. Trust me, she’ll be far more sad the day Scout leaves the earth than the day I die…and she should be, that dog is one of a kind, and everyone who meets him knows it.With that, I feel I’ve earned some Scout time…he’s still on the bed, waiting for me…I can’t let him down, so off I go to the land of a loving Labrador, who doesn’t care about anything other than the fact that I am warm and know how to cuddle.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - Organized Happiness

E

I’m stealing from Queenie…shut up, it’s my birthday week.Last week, as we talked about things like vacations, concerts, and weddings, Queenie pushed back on how much she dislikes all forms of what she called “organized happiness,” further cementing the notion that she is the young female version of me. (Brilliant, self-aware, logical, and, most notably, humble). The hard truth is that whenever it is that you die, the following events will not be on your list of the ten greatest moments of your life:Your weddingYour proms Your high school or college graduationMost adults who have experienced any of those things, along with life, will tell you that those are the most overrated, overblown, and ultimately, unimportant moments in life. The marriage matters…the achievement of graduating and what you do with the experience matters; but the moments and events? Totally forgettable. In fact, if we may parse words, you’ll also completely forget things you’re told you will remember for the rest of your life, that seem, on their face, to be monumental:Buying your first houseYour first paycheckThe birth of your first childPeople lie about the last one because it’s sacrosanct to suggest or acknowledge anything remotely perceivable as negative when it comes to having and raising children. But, back in 2012, a nurse who had treated hundreds of dying patients over decades published a report on the thoughts of the dying. It was, typically, twisted by the media and only presented as a list of things people regret most, topped by not having the courage to live a life true to themselves, as opposed to the life others expected. While that’s a noteworthy thing for people to absorb and consider, those of us who took the time to read the entire report also got to read how completely unimpressed those at the end of their lives were with the process of parenting. While almost none regretted it, and few said they wouldn’t have their kids if they had life to do over again, almost all lamented how much raising their kids took from them, and many questioned if it was worth it.Before you parent-Nazi’s blow a gasket, let me be clear; as these humans died, they were most thankful for their families above all else, and most notably their children. But with the inevitability of death before them, all concerns over speaking the truth were removed, and they were free to say the things they had always thought, which would have been met with disdain and judgment had they been said out loud prior. In other words, they confirmed the now-famous 2010 New York Magazine article entitled “I love my children, but I hate my life.” https://www.americamagazine.org/content/all-things/i-love-my-children-i-hate-my-lifehttps://nymag.com/news/features/67024/When they spoke of their favorite and most memorable things about not just parenting, but life in general, holding their child for the first time was mentioned a grand total of zero times. Rather, it was the moments; most notably those of pride, joy, accomplishment, and achievement that they had bore witness to of their children throughout life that stayed with them as the most magical, a lesson that should resonate with all of us.The things we build up to be momentous and monumental never are. Almost all forms of planned, forced, and expected joy fail to live up to the hype. A massive study done a decade ago confirmed what any self-actualized person already knew; the anticipation and planning of a vacation brings far more joy than the actual event. This applies to almost all forms of manufactured occasions. Weddings never matter in the end, the marriage does. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11482-009-9091-9No semi-successful adult even remembers their high school graduation, but almost all of us have vivid memories of a massive party we were at, or an amazing football game, or even an uproariously funny minute in the classroom. People always say stupid things like “you’ll always remember your first paycheck.” HUH? I don’t even know what I would classify as my first one…was it when I was a paperboy (back when they were allowed…and back when people under 80 read newspapers) at the age of 14? Was it when I worked in the mall at 16? I certainly have no idea how much it was for, but I remember both of those jobs distinctly. On Sundays when it was raining my dad would get up with me and help me fold the enormous ad-filled newspapers and then drive me around in his truck as I leaped out at every home making sure the paper made its’ way safely to the dry front porch of the customer’s house. I remember so many of those mornings…but I have no idea how much money I was making. I have striking memories from every home I’ve ever owned, but I don’t have any recollection of being handed the keys to any of them, as people swear you always will. Stop it. Just stop it.Life is not about events, it’s about moments. It’s what psycho-babble professionals call “being present.” Cliché people would call it “living in the mom

Rob's Soapbox - Emblem Of Now

E

With a plethora of possible topics, I found myself struggling for a tone or direction this week. It’s the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and there are endless things to be said, especially with the backdrop of America’s disastrous Afghanistan pullout last week. Countless false stories are being written about how America “pulled together,” after 9/11, and how different we’ve acted in the face of Covid. Obviously, those writers didn’t actually live through the events in 2001, lest they’d remember that less than a month after the Towers fell, we were back at each other’s throats. Absolutely nothing about America’s reaction and response to Covid is surprising nor dissimilar to 20 years ago. Additionally, the entire world is at each other’s throats disagreeing over the virus; let’s not pretend we’re special.https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2021/09/03/911-vs-covid-19-us-responses-unity-divison/5695433001/  Speaking of Afghanistan, the Taliban is going door-to-door hunting for Americans to slaughter. Good times. https://news.yahoo.com/taliban-soldiers-door-executions-110701194.htmlhttps://nypost.com/2021/09/05/california-woman-in-kabul-says-taliban-hunting-americans/  Covid remains never-ending and divisive. More and more Americans are obediently wearing masks again for no rational reason, especially since cases of the delta variant have peaked. Not to worry, though, there’s plenty of doom and gloom to come as we head towards another dark winter. The flu will miraculously make a comeback, and we have multiple more variants lined up ready to scare the living shit out of all of us prone to such fear porn, which seems to be about 70% of America. https://www.newsweek.com/mu-covid-variant-that-may-evade-vaccines-found-46-countries-territories-1626462https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-9947233/COVID-infections-driven-Delta-appear-peaked-analysis-two-month-pattern.html  The NFL is back…yay. That about covers that subject for now. Within less than two weeks, the nation’s largest state will either have a new governor, or the same one. While a recall of Gavin Newsom would be a huge national story for a day or two, and assuming Republican Larry Elder were to become the new governor, California would see a sea change in regards to how it responds to Covid on a statewide level, it’s neither likely to happen nor much more of an event than a paragraph deserves. Job done. As has become the norm over the last few years, the news is endlessly negative and divisive. I thought it would be nice to offer a positive message in light of that reality, but I just couldn’t muster the words necessary. Not because I’m in a bad place personally, but rather, it seems, too many others are…and they want to stay there. I could key in on that, I suppose; here we are, a year later, in the exact same space we were 365 days ago. Americans are endlessly on edge with no end in sight and very little hope of things changing anytime soon…or maybe anytime at all. Well, that’s uplifting. And then I stumbled on dueling stories about the exact same thing, which perfectly represent our national mindset today. Both sides needlessly celebrating non-victories and preaching to their respective choirs about why they are on the right team and the “other side” is endlessly wrong, and of course, stupid. The subject of the anti-parasite drug for animals known as Ivermectin has been a hot one over the last few weeks, especially since Podcaster Joe Rogan made it known that he had taken it once he contracted Covid. On one side of the argument, conservatives, including Doctor and Senator Rand Paul, have claimed that because former President Trump took Ivermectin and touted it, liberals refuse to even study its’ possible uses as a treatment for Covid. Paul’s position is that the drug is approved for use in humans to treat infections caused by some parasitic worms, head lice, and skin conditions such as rosacea, and should at least be researched to combat Covid, not discarded solely because Trump said it might work. On the other side of the debate, liberals argue that some studies have been conducted to evaluate the drug’s efficacy against COVID-19, however, the data has been inconsistent, inconclusive, and too small to be considered high quality. And that there is simply no reliable evidence that ivermectin should be used for COVID-19. Not to mention, misusing it can lead to very dangerous outcomes. https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/politics/rand-paul/2021/08/30/rand-paul-ivermectin-senator-undecided-on-drug-to-treat-covid/5652636001/https://www.hackensackmeridianhealth.org/HealthU/2021/09/03/3-reasons-not-to-use-ivermectin-for-covid-19/  Cue the phony overreactions and false celebrations! Hungry to show how stupid anyone who voted for or still listens to President Trump is, the traditional media breathlessly and excitedly reported that Oklahoma hospitals were overwhelmed with pat

Ep 15Episode 15 - RAD pROBcast - Christina on Afghanistan

E

By popular demand, my wife Christina joins me and reflects on her year of deployment in Afghanistan and how she views the events of the past few weeks. Was her service, and the sacrifices of others worth it? She also shares some stories of her time there including the moment a detainee she was interrogating got his hands on her. There are some fun moments, too, like when we demonstrate how our sofa attacked my hand and when she attempts to explain why our drinking glasses suddenly no longer fit in our cup holders.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob's Soapbox - Where Is That Damn Pony?

There’s a famous story about twin 5-year-old boys with opposite personalities that perfectly fits today’s times and our seemingly never-ending battle to find contentment and calm in today’s America. Of the twins, one of them is chronically pessimistic, while the other is annoyingly optimistic. The latter of the two seems almost delusionally happy in even the most dour of circumstances. In an attempt to dampen his outlook, just to show him that the world isn’t always great, his dad took him to a room piled to the ceiling with horse manure. But instead of wrinkling his nose in disgust, the optimistic little punk emitted a yelp of delight as he climbed to the top of the pile, dropped to his knees, and began gleefully digging out scoop after scoop with his bare hands. “What do you think you're doing?” the father asked, baffled “With all this manure,” the little boy replied, “there must be a pony in here somewhere!” With that as a backdrop, here is an excerpt from an email the RAD show received last week. While the note was about something specific, the end paragraph has appeared, in various forms, an endless number of times recently and seems to reflect the mood of so many:            “It just feels like doom is all around us right now…it seems like since 2020 everything has escalated so quickly. I don’t know what to think or believe anymore.” America is a manure pile right now, and we’re far past the point of discussing the difficulty of finding the pony, as most of us seem to have no desire to even believe he’s in there any longer. While I firmly stand by my creed that hope leads to despair, we must distinguish between having hope and losing hope, for they are far different things, despite their seeming similarity. Having hope applies to expectations, which will almost always send you crashing upon the shores of defeat and devastation. This form of hope is an intense yearning for something specific to happen: You hope to conquer anxiety or depression. You hope to get into your favorite college. You hope to find love one day. You hope to overcome the pesky problem that’s weighing you down. You hope your football team will just win one Super Bowl. These forms of hope are not only destined to end in despair, but they are also self-defeating. Hope vis a vis specific outcomes are paralyzing and worthless. Hopes like these are the epitome of the adage that one should hope in one hand and piss in the other and see which one fills up first. “Hoping,” to conquer your anxiety is loser talk; taking active steps towards doing so is the only way to actually achieve the outcome you desire. Having hope is also about anticipation, which is life’s ultimate buzz killer. We do this most commonly with first dates, major events, and vacations. We gin ourselves up into a frenzy as we visualize exactly how perfect things are going to be, sometimes going as far as planning every single step along the way, only to be reminded that life happens, and that twists and turns and changes are all a part of life, even when, yes, you’re on your one and only break from life and the weather was supposed to be perfect today because you planned on it being so three months ago when you booked this trip. Decision time; do you adapt and overcome, or do as most and wilt into depression, blaming the universe for being so unkind?  Hope leads to despair when you use hope as a method through which you stop living in the present. That’s what hope is…it’s the thing that pulls us away from the here and now; we think it’s healthy, if not cathartic, but it’s neither. It’s devastatingly unhealthy. People use hope as a way to distract themselves from their miserable lives by looking forward to whatever the next “good” thing in their life is. Whether it be the weekend, a vacation, a concert, a holiday, or a dinner out. When they do that, they put all of the pressure on that event to alleviate all of the suffering they’re experiencing in their day-to-day lives, which is why those events never live up to the hype. Not only can NO event be as good as we make it up to be ahead of time, but once the event is over, those same people find themselves back in their previous reality…and more miserable than ever. And so, they begin to look forward to the next big thing, and the cycle never ends…and neither does their misery. Hope leads to despair not just because life happens and things go wrong, but also because it does its job; it distracts us from right now. We think that’s good because it “gets us through,” but it’s not good. What it does, instead, is cheat us the day. We miss so much, most of it good, because we’re so hell-bent on not dealing with our problems and issues; and we only compound those problems and issues by refusing to meet them head-on, instead ignoring them under the guise of being “hopeful.” Losing hope is an entirely different animal, and far more
