Jimmy Cook and Brian Noe react to the first slate of Sweet 16 games, Frank Isola talks Pacers play-in push and March Madness, Kevin Bowen shares his thoughts on the Colts offseason to this point and what he feels Indy will do with the 4th Pick
(00:00 - 24:35) - The Friday Show with Brian Noe and Jimmy Cook kick things off with a quick Android vs. iPhone debate. UCLA lost to Gonzaga last night in the Sweet Sixteen. Noe equates the loss to Indiana's exit from the tournament in the Round of 32 this year. Cook and Noe compare and contrast if you'd rather lose by a blow out like Indiana or lose a close one like UCLA. Even though they lost, UCLA could benefit from the fact that their loss was close in recruitment. A look back through famous close losses in college and NFL history. How often does the "best team" win a championship and which of the four teams that won last night has the strongest chance of making the finals? (24:36 - 39:24) - Bluegrass music might not make great bump back music, but we are going to try anyway. Bryce Young is still seen as the number one quarterback to take in the draft, at least according to Todd McShay of SportsCenter. Pro-days can't be the most important part of evaluating a player, especially a quarterback who has yet to experience your system at all. Will Levis draft stock has been impacted largely by things outside of his control. He hasn't been able to stay 100% healthy and hasn't always had the best pieces around him. (39:25 - 41:47) - The "QB Push Sneak" which looks much like a rugby scrum has not been outlawed by the NFL yet. The competition committee didn't even take a look at the issue. Teams have said that if the rules are not changed, they will run the play frequently. (41:48 - 1:13:16) - The Lamar Jackson situation is getting even more out of hand. A memo was sent out today saying that "Ken Francis" was reaching out to other teams on behalf of Jackson. The NFL stated in the memo that teams are only to negotiate with Jackson and that anyone found to be talking to Francis would run the risk of having their future contract with Jackson terminated. Jackson denied on Twitter ever having Francis reach out on his behalf to any team. Cook questions why the NFL would lie about such a thing and make up a name as generic as Ken Francis. Frank Isola of ESPN's Around The Horn and Sirius XM joins mid-segment and immediately gives his take on who Jackson will be playing for next season. Isola mentions how Jackson's injuries are a bigger deal than people think about the longevity of his career. Talking Indiana Pacers, Isola thinks that Indiana is in a terrific spot to be one of the teams to beat next year. He thinks the play in tournament doesn't really hold the value the NBA thinks it does or wants it to. (1:13:17 - 1:21:43) - Another run through of the competition committee not looking at the QB Push Sneak. The Colts could benefit from this tactic if they draft a young mobile quarterback like Will Levis or C.J. Stroud. Noe notes that while Indianapolis could take advantage of this, he is not a fan of the tactic. (1:21:44 - 1:24:20) - Noe's bracket is back to life like The Undertaker. It was off to a rough start as Arizona and Purdue got eliminated early. (1:24:21 - 1:52:08) - Kevin Bowen of The Fan morning show Kevin and Query joins the show to express his elation over Micah Shrewsberry signing on as the Notre Dame head coach. Bowen addresses the rumors that he went shirtless on the morning program yesterday in honor of Shrewsberry's decision. Cook and Bowen start talking about Colt's cap space and free agency. How much will Indianapolis need to hold to feel safe going into negotiations in this next season. Colt's General Manager Chris Ballard has proven to be a light spender in previous years. Bowen is slightly worried that early career quarterbacks could be at a disadvantage given how the offensive line performed last season. A young quarterback will be put under pressure early and often next season and might be set up for failure if the O-line does not improve drastically. Brian has some Tony Horton vibes. (1:52:09 - 2:02:34) - What are some sports moments that Jimmy Cook and Brian Noe can look at and say, "I was there." Jimmy caught some highlights from the Chiefs as well as a Kentucky Derby. Brian was live for Wisconsin beating an undefeated Kentucky team at the Final Four in Indy. He also was in attendance for a Colts/Jets game where he managed to run into New York staple "Fireman Ed."Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/query-and-company/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Full Show: Fan Midday Show 3-17-23
(00:00 - 27:21) - The Fan MidDay Show is LIVE in the Bottleworks District today. Inside the Garage Food Hall the show opens up with Jimmy Cook and Brian Noe discussing the Indianapolis Colts signing of quarterback Gardner Minshew. He comes to Indy from the Philadelphia Eagles after spending two seasons as their backup. Noe believes that Minshew is a decent signing for the Colts as he is a decent talent and saves the team some valuable cap space. Is there a massive gap in talent between the top four quarterback names being thrown around in the 2023 NFL draft? Would signing a new quarterback make the fan base impatient if the team draftet a quarterback as well? Princeton's miraculous upset over Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last night. (27:22 - 40:33) - Cook and Noe dig into the Purdue and Fairleigh Dickinson matchup happening later today. Dickinson's head coach talked a big game saying they think beating Purdue is a strong possibility. Why did Brandon Miller play in the first round if he is nursing a groin injury? As a 1 seed team Alabama could have afforded to sit a star player for their first game. The colors of the courts in this tournament seem to be a bit off. (40:34 - 49:48) - Noe thinks that both IU and Purdue will be defined by their consistency in this NCAA Tournament. Kent State is seen as a rough matchup for IU, Cook wants to see the Hoosiers attack early and often to set Kent State on their heels early. While Purdue has a substantially easier matchup, they have to leave their frustrations over foul calls at the door this game and just go out and play strong basketball. (49:49 - 1:20:00) - Kevin Bowen of The Fan morning show Kevin & Query joins the program at the start of the second hour, the three hosts all comment on the variety of activites you can engage in at The Garage in the Bottleworks district. Then Bowman discusses how he feels about IU's chances tonight. He believes that a couple of players will have to get going in order for others to follow suit. If Trace Jackson-Davis or Miller Kopp can start hot then the rest of the team should be able to match that energy. Kent State will not be timid against IU tonight, as they have played very well against high ranked opponents and are riding high off their MAC Tournament win. Pivotting to football Bowman thinks that Minshew joining the Colts is going to be a solid addition to the team right now. Minshew played under the Colts new headcoach Shane Steichen in Philadelphia. Despite the addition the conversation of how is Indianapolis going to protect its quarterback is still up in the air. (1:20:01 - 1:34:35) - Recapping some of the fun basketball stories that have come from this NCAA Tournament. 14th ranked Kennesaw State, who at the time of recording was up over the 3rd ranked Xavier had their first nationally televised home basketball game this season. Keyontae Johnson who collapsed during a game with a large heart in 2020 is passing on a 5 million dollar insurance payment in order to pursue an NBA career. Noe and Cook go over the current tournament games being played, and if there are any appealing bets to be placed. (1:34:36 - 1:38:41) - A fan gifted the guys a drink on this St. Patrick's Day episode of the MidDay Show. The guys close out the hour with more conversation over Colts latest signee Gardner Minshew and comparisons to who else they could have signed. (1:38:42 - 2:05:02) Coach Seth Greenberg is on the show to talk about the NCAA Tournament and immediately addresses the Kennesaw State vs. Xavier situation saying that the Musketeers are just getting "out toughed" by the Owls. Greenberg is confident that IU will win their contest tonight against Kent State. The Hoosier's strong guard game is a noticeable advantage to him. He is similarly hopeful for Purdue, but notes that their schedule gets difficult quickly as a win tonight immediately puts them against either Memphis or Florida Atlantic, then Duke or Tennessee will be after that. After the interview there is more deconstruction of IU and Purdue's matchups. Cook references a relevant statistic pertaining to NCAA Champions regular season 3 point percentage. IU's three point percentage is within the range of those National Champion teams, while Purdue has not. Purdue shoots plenty of threes. but they are not hitting nearly as many. Noe received a "career ending" handshake yesterday during JMv's show. (2:05:03 - 2:19:20) - Xavier managed to comeback and tie the game up, live updates on the program. Noe admits to Kyle, the Bottleworks Manager, that his handshake caused an injury yesterday. Noe and Cook take the time to interview Kyle about the development of The Garage Food Hall and how they managed to build up a fantastic eatery in the downtown area. The three men then sort of run down the bracket and see who has been making the right picks so far this tournament. (2:19:21 - 2:22:42) - J Cook's Plays of the Day and closing conversation.
